THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING HARD BETWEEN 4TH AND 5TH GEAR. MY WIFE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE AIR BAG RECALL DONE. THEY THEN CHARGED US $122 TO UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION PROGRAM TO CORRECT THE FACTORY ISSUE. NOW IT SHIFTS FROM 6TH TO 3RD ON THE INTERSTATE.
TAKATA RECALL" THIS IS IN RELATION TO CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYING WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED. TRAVELING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND THE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
I OWN A 2012 MAZDA CX9, WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. ON MONDAY MORNING (NOVEMBER 12, 2018) MY (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON) AND SO I TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. MY CAR WAS RUNNING BEAUTIFULLY, SO I JUST ASSUMED WITH THE WEATHER CHANGE, PERHAPS THE GAS CAP WASN'T TIGHTENED, AND THEY JUST NEEDED TO CLEAR THE CODES. IT TURNS OUT THE WATER PUMP FAILED AND APPARENTLY DESTROYED THE ENTIRE ENGINE. WHICH BECAME APPARENT AS I DROVE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS, PER THEIR RECOMMENDATION. MY CAR IS WELL MAINTAINED BASED ON THE DEALER RECOMMENDATIONS AND IS CONSISTENTLY SERVICED AT THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THE CAR IS IN FANTASTIC CONDITION WITH ONLY 90,000. AS AN OWNER, I DID EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK IN TERMS OF MAINTENANCE FOR MY CAR. I AM LETTING YOU KNOW, MAZDA HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE, AS WELL. IF A WATER PUMP CAN JUST FAIL WITHOUT WARNING AND COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN AN ENGINE, THAT'S NOT GOOD. I THINK THIS IS FAR MORE DANGEROUS THAN THE AIR BAG RECALL, WHICH IS ONLY A CONCERN IF YOU GET IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE IS NO WARNING ON THE WATER PUMP FAILING, AS IT'S SELF-CONTAINED WITHIN THE POWER TRAIN AND THE ONLY WAY TO CHECK THIS PART IS BY REMOVING THE ENTIRE ENGINE, WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS PART WAS NOT DESIGNED TO BE A WEAR PART. IT'S AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW, THAT CAN CAUSE BODILY HARM IF IT FAILS, BECAUSE IT TAKES OUT THE ENTIRE ENGINE AND YOU LOSE CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE.
I PUT MY VEHICLE IN THE MAZDA SHOP LAST YEAR 2017 FOR A RECALL AND I MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING I FELT IN MY BRAKES THEY TOLD ME THAT IT MAY BE DUST AND BY DRIVING IT WILL GO AWAY,MAZDA KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT THEN.MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OURISMAN MAZDA DEALERSHIP ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY BRAKE BOOSTER & MASTER CYLINDER LABOR IS $709.47 AND THE PARTS ARE $537.98 AND THE BRAKE FLUSH IS $202.61 TOTAL $1450.06 AND MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN OCTOBER 2018. I THEN CALLED MAZDA AND I SPOKE TO A MS.JENNIFER A CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE REPRESENTATIVE AND SHE SAID SHE WOULD CHECK INTO IT.I THEN CALLED BACK TO OURISMAN MAZDA AND SPOKE TO MR.EMERSON AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE SPOKE TO MS JENNIFER AT MAZDA AND THAT MY OUT THE DOOR PRICE WOULD BE $553.16 AND THEY HAVE ALREADY ORDERED THE PART ,THEY STATED MAZDA CALLED OFF THE RECALL AND DID A 7 YEAR WARRANTY OR 90,000 MILES MY CAR IS NEITHER OF THEM FOR A 2012, THEN THEY WANTED TO SAY ITS BECAUSE WHEN MY CAR WAS PURCHASED? THEN TO TELL ME THAT WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN LAST YEAR FOR A RECALL IF IT WAS NOT MAKING A PROBLEM THEY WERE NOT GOING TO LOOK FOR ONE? VACUUM POWER BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE, MY BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND MY CAR STALLED. THERE IS A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS PROBLEM - NOT A RECALL - I NEVER KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT IT. A CONSUMER MUST BE NOTIFIED OF A RECALL BUT NOT A WARRANTY EXTENSION BUT THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WHO MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT YOU DO NOT ASK TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND WHEN IT FAILS YOU ARE IN DANGER. I APPRECIATE THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BUT I HONESTLY THINK THAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THERE WAS NO PROPERTY DAMAGE - I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE SOME RECONSIDERATION REGARDING THE DECISION NOT TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM.
THE BREAK BOOSTER WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE
BRAKES WERE OCCASIONALLY 'TIGHT', HAD TO BE PUSHED VERY HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES IT SOUNDED LIKE AIR WAS BEING PUSHED OUT. CHANGED PADS AND BRAKE FLUID, FLUSHED THE AIR OUT. ONLY MADE IT WORSE. NOW THE BRAKES ARE CONSTANTLY 'TIGHT' AND AFTER LEARNING THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE I'M GOING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER. RIDICULOUS THAT SO MANY ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND MAZDA ISN'T RECALLING THIS PART!
FUEL PUMP FAILURE CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE AND TO DIE IN MOTION ON A RURAL HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAD TO BE PUSHED OFF THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I PARKED MY MAZDA AFTER COMING BACK FROM MY LUNCH BREAK AND NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL WAS A LOT HARDER TO PUSH. I ALSO HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM WHAT SEEMED LIKE THE PEDAL. IT SOUNDED LIKE I WAS LETTING AIR OUT OF A BALLOON. AFTER WORK, WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF MY PARKING STALL, I NOTICED THE BRAKES WERE STILL VERY HARD TO PUSH. THE NOISE WAS ALSO STILL HAPPENING, BUT IT WAS LOUDER. I DECIDED NOT TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE UNTIL I HAD IT LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC. WHEN MY MECHANIC STARTED MY VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO TEST DRIVE IT, THE NOISE WAS GONE, BUT HE ALSO FELT THAT IT WAS VERY HARD TO APPLY MY BRAKES. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A BAD BRAKE BOOSTER. AFTER THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED, I RESEARCHED COMMON COMPLAINTS WITH THIS, AND DISCOVERED THAT IT IS ALSO AN ISSUE IN THE EARLIER MODELS (2010 AND 2011) THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY RISK THAT I WOULD LIKE INVESTIGATED. I WAS DRIVING TO GET LUNCH FROM WORK AND WENT TO STOP AT AT TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A VERY BUSY ROAD AND MY VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP. THE PEDAL WAS HARD AND I HAD TO PUSH IT ALL THE WAY DOWN AND NARROWLY MISSED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I DROVE CAREFULLY BACK TO WORK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SHOP. IT WAS THE BRAKE BOOSTER. I THEN DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE SUBJECT SINCE MY VEHICLE IS STILL FAIRLY NEW AND IT SEEMED ODD. I SAW SO MANY COMPLAINTS AND IT SCARED ME. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY HURT!!
VIRTUALLY COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING. QUICK ONSET. APPARENTLY THE SAME UNDERLYING DEFECT AS INVESTIGATED IN 2008-2011 (INCORRECTLY CLOSED) AND IN TSB #SSP93 NHTSA ID #10117767. THE DEALER HAD THE CAR IN FOR ANOTHER ISSUE (RECALL) IN MARCH; BUT DID NOT FIX THIS ISSUE (NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK OF IT -- UNLESS THE CUSTOMER BRINGS IT UP (PERSONAL COMMUNICATION 7/3/2018). NHTSA STAFF SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THAT THE 2012 TSB IS ESSENTIALLY A CONTINUATION OF THE CORE ISSUE FROM 2008 ONWARD. A FAILING BOOSTER SHOULD INCREASE THE EFFORT TO BRAKE, IT SHOULD NOT BE PERMITTED TO RESULT IN COMPLETE LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY!
LETTER FROM SENATOR GARDNER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT REGARDING HIS CONCERNS ABOUT A DEFECTIVE BRAKE DESIGN SYSTEM WHICH EXISTS IN THE MAZDA CX-9. *LD *JS
AWD TRANSFER CASE UNIT FAILURE THE TRANSFER CASE OF MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9 FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT CRUSISING SPEED CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE FIRST SIGN OF FAILURE WAS A HEAVY BURNED OIL ODOR. THE ODOR WAS CAUSED BY A LOT OF OIL POURING OVER THE EXHAUST PIPE WHICH ALSO WAS A DANGER OF FIRE. AFTER INSPECTION MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A LEAK AND THE COUPLING SPLINES BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE POWER TRANSFER CASE AND THE RIGHT DRIVESHAFT WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED, THIS CORROSION WAS NOS EVIDENT FROM OUTSIDE BECAUSE EITHER THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSFER CASE ARE MADE OF ALUMINUM AND THE DRIVESHAFT IS INSERTED THROUGH THE POWER TRANSFER UNIT INTO THE TRANSMISSION, BUT FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, THE TRANSMISSION OUTPUT AND TRANSFER CASE INPUT PARTS WHICH ARE MADE OF STEEL ARE BADLY CORRODED AND GOT SEVERELY WORN WITH A LOT OF RUST ACCUMULATION IN PLACE, WHICH IN TIME WILL CAUSE A TRACTION LOSE THAT WOULD SEVERELY COMPROMISE DRIVING SAFETY. MAZDA ISSUED A BULLETIN TO ADDRESS THE POWER TRANSFER CASE UNIT BUT IS LIMITED TO 7 YEARS OR 90000 MILES WHICH IS A LOW MILEAGE FOR A PROBLEM LIKE THIS TO DEVELOP AND WHEN THE OWNER TRIES TO TAKE ACTION MAZDA WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS. I THINK THI IS A MANUFACTURING QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE SINCE ITS COMPLETELY BEYOND THE ACTIONS OR FAILURE OF THE OWNER TO FOLLOW A PROPER MAINTENTANCE SCHEDULE SINCE THE OWNERS MANUAL DOESNT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT. APPLY WITH THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS PRESSED. CAN WILL CONTINUE ROLL, AND IN SOME CASES, BECOME VERY HARD TO STOP. SO FAR, NOT HIT ANYTHING, BUT HAVE HAD ISSUES ON NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP AT STOP LINES EVEN AT SLOW SPEEDS.
I JUST HAD ONLY 33K MILES ON MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9, THE TRANSFER CASE BROKEN FROM INSIDE YESTERDAY MORNING (FRIDAY APRIL 6TH 2018) WHEN I COMMUTE FROM HOME TO WORK. I WAS DRIVING ON A NEIGHBORHOOD ROAD GO STRAIGHT. FIRST THE LOUD NOISE RAISE FROM UNDER HOOD THEN THE SUV LOST POWER. LUCKILY I HAVE ROOM TO PULL OVER AND PARK IT AT SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT DID PUT ME AND PUBLIC IN DANGER BY THE FAULTY TRANSFER CASE. I HAVE TO CALL A TOW TRUCK TO GET MY SUV TO AUTO SHOP. SERVICEMAN CALLED ME THIS MORNING AND TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE BAD TRANSFER CASE.
WE OWN A 2011 MAZDA CX7 AND A 2012 MAZDA CX9, THE MOTORS IN THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS OF BOTH CARS WHEN OUT WITHIN A 6 MONTH PERIOD OF TIME. THE WARRANT ON THE CARS WERE OUT AT 36K MILES AND IN 2014. THE MOTORS BOTH STOPPED WORKING PAST THIS PERIOD TIME BUT HAVE READ THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THESE SAME VEHICLES. THE WINDOWS GO DOWN BUT START MAKING A LOUD CLICKING SOUND AND WILL NOT GO BACK UP WITH OUT HOLDING YOU HAND ON IT, CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH SMALL CHILDREN.
THE BRAKING SYSTEM DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY RESULTING IN A CRASH. BRAKES WERE HARD AND COULD NOT BE DEPRESSED WHEN A VEHICLE STOPPED QUICKLY IN FRONT OF ME. TOOK THE CAR TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER UNDER A "SPECIAL WARRANTY". THIS NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT NHTSB REOPEN THE INVESTIGATION ON THIS PROBLEM AS IT DOES NOT ONLY INVOLVE 2010 AND 2011 CARS AND DOES NOT ONLY OCCUR IN "HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES". VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND WAS SLOWING ON AN SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE. VEHICLE IS 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 53,000 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS. MY RPM'S WENT UP TO 4 AND WOULD DROP DOWN WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS. WITHIN MINUTES MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CAR BASICALLY SHUT DOWN. I HAD TO TRY AND DRIFT TO THE SHOULDER IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. WHEN I GOT TO THE SHOULDER THE CAR STARTED SMOKING. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD ME MY WATER PUMP WENT AND LEAKED FLUID THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE, RESULTING IN ME NEEDING A NEW $8,000 ENGINE. THEY TOLD ME THAT MAZDA DESIGNED THE CX9 WHERE THE WATER PUMP IS IN THE ENGINE BLOCK BEHIND THE TIMING BELT AND IT IS NOT SOMETHING THEY CAN EASILY INSPECT WHEN I BRING MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE. SO WHEN A WATER PUMP GOES ON THESE MAZDA CX-9'S IT RESULTS IN THE CONSUMER NEEDING A WHOLE NEW ENGINE. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THERE ARE NO INDICATORS THAT WILL NOTIFY YOU IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WATER PUMP TO AVOID THIS FROM HAPPENING. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT MY CAR WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED WITH VEHICLES GOING AT HIGH SPEEDS. MY CAR BASICALLY SLOWED DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED AND I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO BETTER ASSIST ME GETTING OUT OF THE WAY OF THE HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC.
IF WATER PUMP FAILS THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING OR ANY TYPE OF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ALERT. COOLANT WILL FLOOD CRANKCASE IMMEDIATELY AND RUIN THE ENGINE . THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING CREATING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE POTENTIALLY CAUSING A COLLISION.
I WAS GOING 10MPH TO STOP IN FRONT OF MY DAUGHTER'S SCHOOL TO PICK HER UP WHEN MY BRAKES WERE DIFFICULT TO APPLY. I HAD TO USE BOTH OF MY FEET TO STOP MY CAR FROM CRASHING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I HEARD A HISSING SOUND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKE. THE LIGHTS ON MY DASH ABS LIT UP AND THEN MY CAR SHUT OFF. I WAS SCARED AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES WHEN NO ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND TRIED TO DRIVE AWAY AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I LEFT MY CAR AT A GAS STATION FOR A TOW TRUCK TO GET IT. I WAITED FOR THE CAR TO BE TOWED AND GOOGLED WHAT HAPPENED. TURNS OUT OVER 50 OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE HAPPEN WITH THE SAME CAR AND YEAR. THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY WENT OUT BETWEEN 43000-50000 MILES. SOME SCENARIOS WERE WORSE THAN MINE. THEY WERE DRIVING FASTER THAN 10 MPH AND COULD NOT STOP THE CAR IN TIME OR AT ALL. THERE IS NO RECALL AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID BECAUSE I MOVED TO GUAM FROM WASHINGTON I HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. I HAD IT REPLACED AND IN DECEMBER AND STILL HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT. THE PART THEY REPLACED IS FAULTY TOO. AND THEY ORDERED A NEW PART. SO ITS SITTING TILL THE PART ARRIVES ON THE ISLAND OF GUAM. THIS SITE I WAS ON HAS LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. THE BRAKES ARE A BIG ISSUE IN A CAR. BRAKES DO NOT STOP VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY, IT IS HARD TO APPLY BRAKES.
THE MAZDA CX 9 CUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS. IT ALSO HAS CUT OFF AT LOW SPEED TURNS. IT RESTART SOME TIMES. SOMETIME IT WILL NOT FOR A FEW MINUTES. BEEN LEFT IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF US 27 SOUTH OF SEBRING FLORIDA AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT STALLED. THE RPM FLUXUATES AT TIMES AND THE VEHICLE SURGES. DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN IN THE CENTER LANE AND IT JUST CUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING. NO ENGINE CHECK LIGHT OR WARNING PRIOR TO CUTTING OFF.
AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL, TRANSMISSION SWITCH FAILURE, THROTTLE BODY FAILURE, BRAKE FAILURE
POWER BOOSTER MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE. FIRST, SPONGY PEDAL ATTRIBUTED TO MASTER CYLINDER WITH NO FLUID PRESENT. AFTER REFILLING HYDRAULIC FLUID, PEDAL WAS BETTER FOR A DAY OR TWO THEN LOUD NOISE COMING FROM CABIN IN VEHICLE WHEN PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. (IT GOES TO THE FLOOR AND BECOMES VERY LOUD.) BRAKE BOOSTER, HISSING NOISE AND HARD BRAKE. NO WARNING, BRAKES DON'T STOP WELL. BRAKE BOOSTER CONTINUES LOSING VACUUM PRESSURE AS LONG AS THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. I HAVE NOTICED ONLINE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS AND A KNOWN PROBLEM.
MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL) COMES ON WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF EVAPORATING SYSTEM / LOOSE GAS CAP. MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTICS FEES, A GAS TANK PRESSURE TEST AND 3 GAS CAPS LATER AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. I NOTICED A FEW ONLINE FORUMS WITH SEVERAL OTHERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE ACROSS A WIDE RAGE OF YEARS AND MAZDA MODELS. THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH MAZADA EVAPORATING, FUEL AND EMISSIONS SYSTEMS. THE DEALER CANNOT IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. BEYOND REPLACING THE GAS CAP AND COLLECTING A DIAGNOSTIC FEE.
HISSING SOUND WHEN BRAKING IN MOTION OR PARKED. WHEN DRIVING UP TO AN INTERSECTION AFTER EXITING THE FREEWAY ABOUT 20 MPH CAR WOULD NOT STOP NO MATTER HOW HARD I STEPPED ON THE PEDDLE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SLOW BEFORE HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT CAR LUNGED FORWARD WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR MY DAUGHTER AT SCHOOL. IT LUNGED UP AND NEARLY HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME! SCARIEST THING IN THE WORLD TO NOT BE ABLE TO BRAKE!!

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED IN EXCESS OF 75 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER SILL-TERHAR MAZDA (LOCATED AT 1551 US-287, BROOMFIELD, CO 80020; (303) 469-1801), BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-222-5500 AND STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITHOUT DUPLICATING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO SPEAK WITH THE TECHNICIAN. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT CALL THE CONTACT BACK. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

WHEN BRAKING THE BRAKES ARE EITHER HARD AND DO NOT WORK OR BRAKES ARE SPONGY, WILL SLOW VEHICLE, BUT WILL NOT GIVE YOU CONFIDENCE THAT THEY WILL STOP THE VEHICLE LIKE THEY SHOULD. WHEN BRAKING AT TIMES YOU CAN HEAR A HISSING, MAYBE ALL THE TIME, BUT WHEN THINGS ARE HAPPENING YOU AREN'T LISTENING FOR A HISSING SOUND. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND IN PARK IF YOU REALLY PUT YOU FOOT TO THE FLOOR A BEEPING ALMOST LIKE AN ALARM SOUND IS MADE. THIS BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE SHOULD BE A MAJOR CONCERN. 8-13-2017 I WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65 MPH IN LITE TRAFFIC ON A DOWNGRADE AND SLIGHT CORNER WHEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME LOST A TIRE AND I NEEDED TO BRAKE QUICKLY AND MY BRAKE PEDAL WOULDN'T MOVE, IT WAS HARD AS A ROCK, NEVER SLOWED THE VEHICLE AT ALL. THANK GOODNESS I HAD PLENTY OF ROOM TO MANEUVER, OTHERWISE WHO KNOWS WHAT THE RESULT OF THAT ACCIDENT MAY HAVE BEEN. ANOTHER TIME WAS 8-30-2017 I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE, APPROX 20 MPH, AND WAS APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION OF OUR SUBDIVISION AND THE HWY WHERE THE TRAFFIC TRAVELS AT 55 MPH, I WENT TO BRAKE AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR.... AGAIN NO BRAKES. MY VEHICLE ROLLED TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT NOT BEFORE I CROSSED INTO THE SECOND LANE OF CROSS TRAFFIC. AGAIN THANK GOODNESS IT WAS AROUND 6:30 AM AND TRAFFIC WAS FAIRLY LITE. MIND YOU THIS IS ONLY TWO OF THE MORE EXTREME TIMES. I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER AND IT WILL BE INSTALLED THIS WEEKEND. I DID TRY TO CONTACT MAZDA, BUT AFTER SITTING ON HOLD, 1-800-222-5500, FOR OVER 18 MINUTES THE PHONE FINALLY RINGS.....UNTIL IT DISCONNECTS.

WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED SUNROOF GLASS EXPLODED SHOWERING DRIVER WITH GLASS SOME UNEXPECTEDLY SHARP. COULD HAVE EASILY LOST CONTROL OF CAR AND CRASHED. RECEIVED CUT NO MEDICAL TREATMENT.

PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW FROM DAVIS MOORE MAZDA- WICHITA, KS. FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS WE HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE ENGINE STALLS AS WELL AS COMPLETE ENGINE STOPPING WHILE DRIVING, CITY, HIGHWAY, TURNING ETC. HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO THEIR SERVICE DEPT. MANY TIMES AND THEY KEEP SAYING IT IS FINE ( THE LAST TIME THEY SAID IT MIGHT BE CAUSED BY HAVING 8 OZ TOO MUCH ENGINE OIL IN IT). WE HAVE LESS THAN 12,000 MILES ON IT TO DATE BECAUSE WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY REAL SAFETY ISSUE. WE HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK FOR EACH SERVICE DEPT. VISIT. LAST TWO VISITS WE WERE TREATED LIKE WE WERE MAKING THIS STUFF UP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY YEAR SINCE PURCHASING.
BRAKES HAVE BECOME VERY SQUISHY AND UNRESPONSIVE AND THERE IS A HISSING SOUND WHEN DEPRESSED. THIS IS A 2012 MAZDA BUT IT ONLY HAS 23.5K MILES ON IT. THIS HAPPENED ALL OF A SUDDEN AND WITHOUT WARNING AND MAKES THE VEHICLE VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. IT IS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE, WILL BE TAKING TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR UNDER SUPPOSED EXTENDED WARRANTY.

THE PEDAL FELT STIFF AND THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS FAULTY AND THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED A CASE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
MY BREAK PEDAL FEELS AS IF IT BECOMES STIFF AND I HEAR A HISSING NOISE COMING FROM THE PEDAL. MY BREAKS WILL NOT SLOW THE VEHICLE. I HAVE TO REMOVE MY FOOT AND REAPPLY PRESSURE FORCEFULLY IN ORDER FOR THE BREAKS TO WORK. IT DOES THIS IN REVERSE, GOING DOWN AN INCLINE OR FLAT SURFACE. THIS HAPPENED WHILE MY CHILD WAS WITH ME. PLEASE REPUIREVA RECALL OR LIVES MAY BE AT STAKE.

BRAKES FAILED. ATTEMPTS TO STOP ONLY SLOWED VEHICLE DOWN UNLESS EXTREME PRESSURE APPLIED. PEDAL STOPPED HALFWAY. OCCASIONALLY ABS ACTIVATED DUE TO EXCESSIVE FORCE REQUIRED TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL. REPAIR WITH REPLACED BRAKE BOOSTER. IMMEDIATELY FAILED AGAIN BY MAKING NOISE ON DEPRESSION THOUGH VEHICULAR IS STOPPING. DEALER ORDERING ANOTHER BOOSTER AND WILL NEED TO RETURN FOR REPAIR AGAIN WHEN IT COMES IN.

TWO ADDITIONAL TIMES WE CONTACTED, BY PHONE, MAZDA / DEALER TO REQUEST REPAIR OF THE DEFECT-FREE OF CHARGE-"WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME" AND HAVE NO RESULTS SO FAR. ON AUGUST 21ST, 2017 WE RECEIVED "AUTO AIRBAG SETTLEMENT" NOTICE. WHAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE "WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME"? WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE FROM THIS POINT ON?
