TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V012000 (AIR BAGS). THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. JIM ELLIS MAZDA (LOCATED AT 1141 COBB PARKWAY SE, MARIETTA, GA) WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE MANUFACTURER COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
This is relating to NHTSA Investigation PE 14-005. Although this car is a 2012 Mazda CX9, my wife driving the car had the same issue where she heard a hissing noise and the brakes were very difficult for her to depress or to stop. A brake issue is a major defect where the NHTSA should have initiated a recall in accordance with 49 U.S.C. 30118-30120, which required notification of all owners. Why the NHTSA allowed Mazda to only issue a 'Special Extended Warranty' is beyond me, and smells of a back door deal. Nonetheless, I was unaware of this issue with the Mazda CX9's as I was never notified. My wife drove the vehicle home and I purchased the replacement parts at my own expense. This should be a full recall and should be reopened as your current investigation PE 14-005 only included years 2010-2011, and did *not* include the 2012 model year.

PASSENGER AIR BAG INFLATORS REPLACEMENT - SAFETY RECALL 0717A NHTSA 17V02 HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED AND I AM GOING ON LONG TRIP SATURDAY AND ASKED LOCAL DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES FOR HELP. NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED. I JUST NEED IT FIXED PRIOR TO SATURDAY'S TRIP
TAKATA RECALL - I'VE RECEIVED 3 RECALL NOTICES, BUT MAZDA SAYS PARTS ARE STILL UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A LIFE-THREATENING RECALL ISSUE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR, BUT WAS TOLD THAT PARTS NEEDED TO BE ORDERED. THE CONTACT WAITED FOR AT LEAST FOUR MONTHS WITH NO CONTACT FROM THE DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
UPON DRIVING MY VEHICLE, IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP AT ALL TIMES. I HAD TO USE BOTH FEET TO STOP AT A EMERGENCY STOP AND ALMOST HIT A CAR PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. THERE WAS NO STOPPING THIS VEHICLE USING THE BREAKS. I HAVE MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN THAT TRAVEL WITH ME, THIS PROBLEM WAS A HUGE THREAT TO THEIR SAFETY AND LIVES. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF OTHER DRIVERS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. BEFORE MY CAR CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, I BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE BREAK BOOSTER. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING CONSIDERING THE AGE AND MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE. HE DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE, BUT NO RECALLS. WITH NO OTHER CHOICE I HAD HIM FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE A RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE MECHANIC I PAID TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF IT WASN'T FOR THE DEFECT IN THE BREAK BOOSTER, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE FIRST PLACE. MY QUESTIONS TO YOU ARE, HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO HAVE THEIR LIVES AND LOVED ONE'S LIVES PUT AT RISK IN ORDER FOR A RECALL TO BE ISSUED? IS IT CHEAPER TO HAVE A LAW SUIT OR TO ISSUE A RECALL?

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 68,000.
TAKATA RECALL - FAILURE TO REPLACE IN A TIMELY MANNER AND PREVENTED FROM CARRYING PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF THE CAR. CANNOT SELL / TRADE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THE BAG(S) IS / ARE REPLACED.
DROVE ~600 MILES WITH A FAILED BRAKE BOOSTER. FOUND OUT VIA INTERNET THAT MAZDA HAD PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THIS DEFECT. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I TOOK THE CAR TRIED TO FIND THE PART IT WAS ON BACKORDER WITH MAZDA. THE MAZDA SERVICE MANAGER AT PRESTON MAZDA, JOHN ROSENSTEEL, HAD ONE OF HIS PEOPLE DRIVE TO BUTLER, PA FROM BOARDMAN, OH TO PICK UP THE PART. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND THE CAR WAS READY TO GO WITH A NEW BOOST UNIT BY FRIDAY. THIS WAS ALL DUE TO THE EFFORTS OF AN EXCELLENT SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP. MAZDA FAILED ME AS A CUSTOMER BY NOT HAVING THE BRAKE BOOSTER IN STOCK EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE SUBJECT OF MULTIPLE FAILURES AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
AT JUST OVER 90,000 MILES I HAD TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE IS POSTING. AS DESCRIBED BY MECHANIC IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TRANSFER CASE IS PLACED JUST ABOVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER (WHICH THROWS OFF ALOT OF HEAT) AS A RESULT OIL IN TRANSFER CASE COOKS OVER TIME AND GEARS ARE DESTROYED. MAZDA DID NOT PROVIDE A WAY TO REPLACE AND OR CHECK THIS FLUID WITHOUT TAKING DOWN THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. MECHANIC SAID I WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN AT ROUGHLY ANOTHER 80-100,000 MILES. YEAR AND A HALF LATER I NOTICED A VERY SOFT BRAKE. I REPLACED BRAKE PADS AND DRUMS, AND BRAKE FLUID. I HAVE A VERY HARD BRAKE WHICH THEN SPORATICALLY GOES SOFT. AGAIN I LOOKED UP THIS ISSUE AND FOUND AGAIN MAZDA IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND EXTENTED WARRANTY TO 90,000 MILES. AGAIN I'M JUST OVER THE WARRANTY ALLOWANCE AND NOW MY BRAKE POWER BOOSTER AND POSSIBLY MASTER CYLINDER NEED TO BE REPLACED. BOTH ARE KNOWN ISSUES BY MAZDA. UNFORTUNATELY I WAS THE LUCKY ONE WHO WAS THE BENEFICIARY OF BOTH PROBLEMS JUST OVER THE 90,000 MILE WARRANTY. I REACHED OUT TO MAZDA TO REQUEST SOME ASSISTANCE WITH AT LEAST THE COST OF THE PARTS ON THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER. I WAS GIVEN A QUICK NO BY MAZDA. VERY FRUSTRATING SINCE THESE ARE BOTH KNOWN PROBLEMS AND THEY WILL NOT AT LEAST WORK WITH ME ON THE PARTS COST.
11/1/2016- AT 92,205 MILES VEHICLE SHUDDERED WHEN I STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR. I WAS TOLD IT WAS TRANSMISSION RELATED. ON MY WAY TO MECHANIC VEHICLE COMPLETELY SEIZED; HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP. ANGLE GEAR HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE TRANSFER CASE OIL BURNED OFF BECAUSE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS PLACED TOO CLOSE AND IT COOKS LUBRICANT. I WAS TOLD THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MAZDA CX9'S. COST 1,400. MAZDA WAS UNWILLING TO COVER REPAIRS AT ALL. 6/22/2020 - 130,000 MILES SAME SHUDDERING HAPPENED WHEN STEPPED ON ACCELERATOR AND SAME ISSUE. CALLED MAZDA AND SAME RESPONSE 'NOT OUR PROBLEM, IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY'. *TR
WHILE BRAKING NORMALLY FOR A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKES BECAME HARD TO PRESS AND DID NOT STOP THE CAR AS NORMAL. HISSING FROM THE PEDAL AREA WAS HEARD AND THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED HALFWAY THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AFTER NEARLY STANDING ON THE BRAKES.
THE SUNROOF ON MY 2012 MAZDA CX-9 SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED AS IT WAS JUST SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY. NO ONE WAS NEAR THE CAR OR DRIVING IT. THERE WAS A LOUD "BOOM"'AND THE SUNROOF LOOKS LIKE IT EXPLODED OUTWARDS. *TR
I HAD TO PUSH HARDER AND HARDER ON MY MAZDA CX9 BRAKE PEDAL FOR MY CAR TO SLOWDOWN AND TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP . THIS HAPPENED WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE AND THE BRAKE IS GETTING WORSE EVERYDAY ON MY WAY TO WORK . ON THE DAY WHEN I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE MECHANICS , I HAD PRACTICALLY PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL FOR THE CAR TO STOP . IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND CONTINUED TO ROLL FORWARD AND MORE SO AT EVERY TRAFFIC LIGHT . I TOOK MY CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS WITHIN ONE HOUR SINCE I DIDN'T BELIEVE THE FIRST ONE AND WANTED A SECOND OPINION . THEY BOTH TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO REPLACE IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I JUST DON'T HAVE BRAKE ON MY CAR ! THEY SAID THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN A CAR WITH ONLY 59,000 MILES . THE FIRST MECHANIC EVEN HAD ME SIGNED A WAIVER SINCE I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO FIX THE BRAKE AND WANTED A SECOND OPINION . I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1062,07 TO FIX THE BRAKE . UNFORTUNATELY THE SECOND MECHANIC GAVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSTIC WITH THE COST OF $843 AND TWO DAYS TO ORDER THE PARTS SINCE IT WAS ON SATURDAY AND RECOMMENDED ME TO LEAVE THE CAR IN THEIR GARAGE . AND TO MAKE THE THING WORSE MY MAZDA DEALER SERVICE IS NOT OPEN ON THE WEEKEND . I GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT THAT THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE HAS HAD HAPPENED TO SEVERAL OTHER MAZDA CX 9 OWNERS AND NO RECALLS HAD EVER BEEN ISSUED . I DO HAVE PHOTOS OF THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE BOOST AND MASTER CYLINDER BUT DON'T KNOW HOW TO UPLOAD .

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 MAZDA CX-9. WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, A PICK UP TRUCK REAR ENDED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. IN TURN, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A THIRD VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000.
WHILE TRAVELING ON THE TURNPIKE AT 70 MPH AT NIGHT MY ENTIRE DASH BOARD, INCLUDING SPEEDOMETER, WARNING LIGHTS AND TEMPERATURE CONTROLS AND HEAD LIGHTS AND BACK LIGHTS WENT BLANK AND DARK. PULLED OFF ROAD AND SHUT ENGINE OFF. WAS GOING TO CALL ROAD SERVICE, BUT TURNED ENGINE ON AND EVERYTHING CAME ON. DROVE ANOTHER 15 MINUTES AND THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD AND HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT. PULLED OFF ROAD AND SHUT OFF ENGINE AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND ALL WAS WORKING AGAIN. GOT HOME SAFELY WITHOUT MORE PROBLEMS. SAME PROBLEMS WITH DASHBOARD DURING DAYLIGHT THEREAFTER. TOOK CAR TO DEALER ASAP WHERE ALL MY SERVICE HAS BEEN DONE SINCE CAR BOUGHT NEW. DEALER HAD CAR 4 DAYS AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM UNTIL THE THIRD DAY WHEN ONE OF THE MASTER TECHNICIANS DROVE THE CAR 30 MILES TO HIS HOME. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD WENT BLACK AT NIGHT. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT THEY THINK THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM BY SOME COMPUTER ADJUSTMENT TO A SENSOR. REALLY GOT NO DETAILS OF WHAT WAS WRONG AND WILL IT HAPPEN AGAIN. ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS STARTED A FEW DAYS AFTER DEALER HAD CAR FOR THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS SAFETY RECALL 851G AND OTHER ROUTINE SERVICE SUCH AS OIL CHANGE, WHEEL ALIGNMENT, MULTI POINT INSPECTION AND BATTERY REPLACEMENT TO NEW BATTERY. ALSO TIRE ROTATION. OVERALL A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH.
BRAKES FELT HARD/STIFF AND VEHICLE DIDN'T STOP AS EXPECTED. ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR. HAD TO APPLY BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES TO SLOW DOWN.
LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID; BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO PUSH. UNABLE TO STOP CAR; HISSING NOISE AT BRAKE PEDAL.
BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING BREAK ABILITY TO FAIL COMPLETELY. CAR COULD NOT STOP. REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

AT 44,000 MILES, BRAKES FEEL HARD AND VEHICLE BRAKES SLOWER THAN IT SHOULD WAS NEARLY IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS. IT TOOK A MUCH LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP. EMERGENCY REPAIR AT LOCAL SHOP INDICATED BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED. REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. MAZDA SHOULD RECALL
BREAKS SLOWLY STRTED TO GET HARFER TO PRESS , HERE AND THERE AND LAST FRIDAY WENT TO TAKE NY KIDS TO THE STORE AND A COUPLE NEIGHBORHOOD KIDS TAGED ALONG WHEN I GOT TO THE INTERSECTION MY BREAK PEDAL WOULD NOT PRESS DOWN SO THANKFULLY NO CARS WERE COMING AS I SLOW ROLLED THROUGH THE STOP SIGN ON A VERY BUSY FAST SPEED HIGWAY . CALLED MAZDA AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD ISSUES . PLEASE IF U NOTICE ANY BREAK ISSUES GET THEM FIXED RIGHT AWAY THIS STORY COULD HAVE ENDED MUCH DIFFRENTLY WITH THE LOSS OF 5 KIDS KILLED BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A RECALL JUST A COMMON COMPLAINT AT THIS POINT IT WAS UNDER INVESTAGATION AT ONE POINT . MAZDA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND SEND LETTERS TO OWNERS OF THIS ISSUE .LET ME NOTE MAZDA WAS QIUCK TO GET IT N AND FIXED AND GAVE ME A RENTAL . THANK U FOR THAT BUT ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT IS HOW ALL THIS COULD HAVE ENDED .
THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THE MAZDA CX-9 BECAME VERY VERY HARD TO PUSH. ALSO, WHILE I WAS STOPPED COMPLETELY WITH THE BRAKE ALL THE WAY DOWN, THE BRAKE WOULD TEMPORARILY RELEASE ITSELF AND I HAD TO USE TWO FEET ON THE PEDAL TO GET THE CAR TO COMPLETELY STOP! THIS SHOULD WARRANT A COMPLETE RECALL AS I ALMOST DRIVE INTO BUSY INTERSECTIONS TWICE SO FAR!
BRAKE BOOSTER - I HAD ISSUES PRESSING ON MY BRAKES, LIKE A BOOK HAD BEEN PLACED UNDERNEATH PREVENTING ME FROM FULLY APPLYING PRESSURE TO STOP MY VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED WHEN I WOULD BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, GO DOWN THE HIGHWAY, AND IN TRAFFIC AS I SAT ON THE HIGHWAY. WHEN MY CAR WAS STATIONARY, I WOULD APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AND COULD HEAR A VERY LOUD HISSING SOUND AS THOUGH SOMEONE WAS LETTING AIR OUT OF MY TIRES. LUCKILY I WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT, HOWEVER, IT ALMOST HAPPENED ON A FEW OCCASIONS. WHEN I CALLED MAZDA TO HAVE MY CAR CHECKED OUT, I WAS TOLD THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WITH THE CX-9 AND I WAS ADVISED TO BRING MY CAR IN.
BRAKE BOOSTER - WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES (ANY TIME OF DAY) THERE WAS A STRANGE HISSING NOISE, LIKE AIR BEING RELEASED FROM A BALLOON. IF THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED CLOSER TO THE FLOOR THERE WAS A HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL. BRAKES BECAME VERY HARD TO PRESS AND THE CAR BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARD IN FRONT OF ME. A REPAIR SHOP INSTRUCTED ME TO CHECK BRAKE FLUID (WHICH WAS SLIGHTLY LOW, AND I FILLED IT). THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. BRAKES ARE EVEN HARDER TO PRESS. FROM RESEARCH I SEE THAT MAZDA HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME YEARS NOW. THEY SHOULD RECALL THESE CARS AND REPLACE THE BOOSTERS BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. WE HAVE FOUR KIDS IN OUR HOUSE AND THIS IS OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I WILL BE LEFT REPLACING THIS ON MY OWN.
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER ON 6/2016 AND CALLED IN TO SCHEDULE OR REMEDY THE PROBLEM ON 07/18/2016, I TOLD THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED. CALLED BACK ON 9/20/2016 PART WAS NOT ORDERED BECAUSE PERSON IN CHARGE OF DOING SO WAS FIRED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART WOULD BE ORDERED AGAIN AND THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED. AGAIN, I CONTACTED MAZDA ON 10/2016 AND AGAIN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS INACCURATELY ORDERED AND THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME ONCE IT WAS REORDERED AND RECEIVED. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A CALL FROM MAZDA AND AM VERY TIRED OF GETTING THE RUN AROUND. I NEED TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE.
BRAKES FEEL HARD AND VEHICLE BRAKES SLOWER THAN IT SHOULD. IT TOOK A MUCH LONGER DISTANCE TO STOP. HISSING SOUND FROM PEDAL. FOUND NUMEROUS DESCRIPTIONS ON SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE BOOSTER TEAR. DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS WAS NOT RECALLED.
BRAKES BECAME STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO PRESS. WHEN BRAKE PEDAL PRESSED TO THE FLOOR, LOUD SQUEALING NOISE HEARD FROM INSIDE THE CAB. STOPPING DISTANCE AND BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSION CONTINUE TO WORSEN AS TIME PASSES. THIS HAS NOW BECOME SO BAD THAT WE CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR SAFELY.
POWER BRAKES ARE GOING OUT. WHILE DRIVING THE POWER ASSIST ON THE BRAKES GOES OUT. YOU HAVE TO PUSH AS HARD AS YOU CAN TO GET ANY STOPPING ABILITY AND THEN THEY WILL WORK FINE AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY BUT FREQUENTLY. THE CAR HAS 75,000 MILES.
BRAKE PEDAL BECAME SPONGY AND STOPPING POWER DIMINISHED CONSIDERABLY. HEARD A LOUD HISSING SOUND FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. HAD TO FULLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP QUICKLY.

WE HAVE NOTICED THE DIFFICULTY IN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PAD ALONG WITH THE HISSING NOISE OVER THE PAST 1 MONTH AND IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECAME STRONGER. INITIALLY YOU BRUSH IT OFF THINKING YOU ARE IMAGINING IT. TODAY ON A HILL THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT SO TRAFFIC WAS BARELY MOVING, I STARTED TO LEAVE MORE AND MORE DISTANCE WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AS IT WAS BECOMING INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES. FINALLY I HEAR A STRANGE NOISE AND THEN COMPLETE QUIET AND MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER NOTICES TOO AND AS I RELEASE THE BRAKE TO MOVE I REALIZE THE CAR ENGINE HAD DIED (THE ENGINE HAS NEVER GIVEN ANY INDICATION OF ISSUES BEFORE) BUT THE ENGINE DASH LIGHTS WEREN'T ON INDICATING THERE WAS NOT POWER WHICH OF COURSE MEANS NO POWER STEERING EITHER, A QUICK SHIFT TO N AND RESTART AND ALL IS FINE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. THE HISSING NOISE AND DIFFICULT DEPRESSION CONTINUED HOWEVER WHILE ON THE HILL WHEN I DID PRESS HARD ENOUGH FOR THE BRAKES TO RESPOND THEY DID SO AS THOUGH BYPASSING THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM AS THEY WOULD JOLT INTO THE STOP. VERY CONCERNING AS THE DISTANCE TO STOP HAS INCREASED, WHAT IF A PERSON WALKED IN FRONT OF ME MUCH LESS IF I'M ON THE FREEWAY AND COME UPON A SUDDEN NEED TO STOP. BUT HERE IT IS A SATURDAY EVENING AND HOW AND WHEN CAN I DEAL WITH AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT CLEARLY IS REPEATED. I WONDER HOW MANY OUT THERE HAVE NOT TAKEN THE TIME TO REPORT, HAVE SPENT MUCH ON REPAIRS OR SIMPLY TRADED IN THEIR VEHICLE TO COME IN TO THE HANDS OF SOME OTHER UNSUSPECTING CONSUMER. ACTION TRULY IS NEEDED BEFORE SOMEONE'S LIVES ARE CHANGED FOREVER.

I NOTICED THAT AT VERY SLOW SPEED (BACKING OUT, EASING FORWARD) THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY HARD, DID NOT DEPRESS, AND CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP. I DID NOT HAVE MUCH OF A PROBLEM AT REGULAR (60 MPH) SPEED. ONLY ONCE WAS THERE A LOUD HISSING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER TOLD ME BRAKES WERE FINE BUT THE CAR DID NOT DRIVE FINE. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME I NEEDED FRONT BRAKE PADS. UPON CHANGING BRAKE PADS, I WAS TOLD THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS BAD AND CAUSING THE PADS TO WEAR ABNORMALLY FAST AND THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY WORSE WITH THE NEW PADS. DEFINITELY A PROBLEM AS I WAS ONLY AT 31,000MI. I DIDN'T NOT RETURN TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE MECHANIC DO THE REPAIR RIGHT THEN. WHAT I THOUGHT WAS MINOR MAINTENANCE TURNED INTO A $500 REPAIR. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 7YR/90,000MI ON THE BRAKE BOOSTER IF DIAGNOSED AND FIXED BY A DEALER.
THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK. WHEN I INITIALLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE FROM PARK TO DRIVE, THE CAR BEGINS TO ROLL AS IF I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL. I HEAR A HISSING SOUND NOW WHEN I DEPRESS THE BRAKE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS RAPIDLY DETERIORATED IN JUST 1 WEEK. SOMETIMES, I AM NOT ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT ALL. I WILL BE TAKING MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. 4.9.16
MY WIFE COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT HER BRAKES BECOMING HARD TO THE POINT SHE COULDN'T STOP THE CAR. I THEN TOOK HER CAR FOR A DRIVE AND WHILE IN MOTION I HIT THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKES BECAME SO HARD I HAD TO USE AN UNREASONABLE AMOUNT OF FORCE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS REALLY DIMINISHED STOPPING POWER WHEN THIS OCCURS. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE PUSHED MORE THAN ONCE IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME SUCH AS STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.THE VEHICLE ALSO MAKES A HISSING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS COULD BE A BAD BRAKE BOOSTER. I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
BRAKE FAILURE AT 60K MILES (POSSIBLY EARLIER). I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM A DEALER 2 MONTHS AGO AND WAS TOLD FRONT AND REAR PADS AND ROTORS HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THEY FELT INCONSISTENT BUT I THOUGHT THEY NEEDED TO SETTLE IN. THEN THE POWER BOOST BEGAN TO FAIL AND A HIGH PITCHED WHINING NOISE COMES FROM THE BOOSTER IF THE PEDAL IS HELD DOWN. IT HAS LURCHED FORWARD WITH MY FOOTRR ON THE PEDAL WHILE AT A FULL STOP. I NOW PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHEN AT A STOP. GETTING IT TO STOP IS THE PROBLEM. VERY ,VERY DANGEROUS.

THERE IS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM ON THE DASHBOARD; NO WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN DISPLAYING, BUT SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY WRONG. I DO NOT FEEL VERY SAFE WHEN DRIVING.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,300. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS A LOUD HISSING NOISE NOTED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE HISSING NOISE COMES FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CABIN IN THE VICINITY OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL. MAZDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE IDENTIFIED CONCERNS IN THIS AREA. OF COURSE WE OPERATE UTILIZING TOMBSTONE MANAGEMENT THEORIES; ONLY RECOGNIZING A PROBLEM ONCE SOMEONE IS KILLED.

THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND WORSENED. THE CONTACT ALSO SMELLED FUEL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE HAD TROUBLE ACCELERATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
