MAZDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2009 MAZDA3 AND MAZDA5 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 2, 2007 THROUGH NOVEMBER 30, 2008. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING ASSIST COULD OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
Remedy Status
MAZDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND LINES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-222-5500.
THULE, INC. IS RECALLING 2,323 OWNER-INSTALLED ROOF-MOUNTED FIT KITS, MODELS 3068 AND 3069, MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 2008 AND FEBRUARY 28, 2009 THAT ARE USED WITH THULE PODIUM FOOT PACKS, MODELS 460 AND 460R. THESE FIT KITS WERE SOLD AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE BOLT(S) USED TO SECURE THE FOOT TO THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED TO A HARDNESS THAT MAY CAUSE THE BOLT(S) TO BE BRITTLE AND POTENTIALLY BREAK UNDER STRESS.
Remedy Status
THULE WILL MAIL A RETRO FIT KIT ALONG WITH REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS TO OWNERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE APRIL 13, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THULE TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-238-2388.
MAZDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 MAZDA5 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 29, 2009, THROUGH APRIL 28, 2010. WATER MAY NOT HAVE BEEN REMOVED COMPLETELY FROM THE HARNESS CONNECTOR OF THE FUEL PUMP DUE TO VARIATIONS IN THE FUEL TANK LEAK CHECK PROCESS PERFORMED BEFORE VEHICLE ASSEMBLY. THE CONNECTOR PIN MAY CORRODE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE PIN TO BREAK.
Remedy Status
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR AND IF NECESSARY IT WILL BE REPLACED AND THE HARNESS WILL BE REPAIRED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MAZDA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-222-5500.
The headlights on this car are dangerously dim. Like the turn signals overpower them levels of dim. I’ve replaced the bulbs, the battery, cleaned all the connections, replaced the alternator, nothing makes a difference.
THIS MODEL OF MAZDA STEERING WHEEL STOP ROTATING MOSTLY ON HIGHWAY. AT TIME IT BECOME TOO STIFF TO OVE FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES AND THEN IT COMES BACK ON IT IS WORRYING ME AS IT MAY CAUSE AN UNVOIDABLE CRASH.
Intermittently, the doors will not unlock when inside the vehicle, effectively trapping the occupants inside. Additionally, the locks will fail to lock or lock with either the key or the remote fob. trapping occupants inside or prohibiting someone on the outside from getting in to retrieve children inside.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF A STREET AND WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE CONTACT HAD A MECHANIC INSPECT THE VEHICLE WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.
CLIMATE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONING AND TURNING ON THE HEATER NOT AC
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 5. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING VEERED TO THE LEFT. THE FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED A CRASH. IN ADDITION, THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO EXERT EXCESSIVE FORCE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL AND THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
SLIDING PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT LATCH. WILL OPEN WHILE DRIVING.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR (APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR) THERE IS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER, INCLUDING LOSS OF POWER STEERING. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. WE REPLACED ALTERNATOR AND HAD BATTERY CHECKED, WHICH WAS WORKING FINE WHEN THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 45 MPH. PROBLEM IS RECURRING. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 5. WHILE THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING 45 MPH, THE DRIVER HEARD A GRINDING AND CLUNKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED AND SHIFTED THE ENGINE FORWARD, WHICH CAUSED THE CV JOINTS AND ENGINE HEAD TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE CAR DEALERSHOP DIDN'T INFORM ME ABOUT THIS CAR HAD 3 RECALL ,AND I NEED TO CANCEL THE CONTRACT.I HAVEN'T PICK UP THE CAR YET.IF DEALER SOLD ME DEFECTED CAR WITH RECALL PROBLEM,I WANT TO PROTECT MYSELF FROM FRAUD.
I HAVE HAD 2 TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING VALVES BREAK INTO 2 PARTS EACH IN THE PAST 4 MONTHS. THE LATEST WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING TODAY ON CITY STREETS. THE TIRE PRESSURE ALARM WENT OFF SO I STOPPED THE CAR TO CHECK THE TIRES. WHEN I TOUCHED ONE OF THE VALVES IT JUST CAME APART IN MY HAND AND I WAS HOLDING PART OF THE VALVE, THE REST OF IT WAS STILL IN THE TIRE. THE TIRE THEN COMPLETELY DEFLATED IN ABOUT 2 SECONDS. THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. IF YOU LOST ALL TIRE PRESSURE IN A FEW SECONDS AT 65 MPH YOU COULD EASILY LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND GET IN AN ACCIDENT. I NO LONGER TRUST THE 2 VALVES THAT HAVE YET TO BREAK SO I AM GOING TO BE PROACTIVE AND REPLACE THEM BEFORE THEY DO BREAK AT AN INOPPORTUNE TIME. I SEE A LOT OF OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. I INCLUDED A PICTURE OF THE PIECE OF THE VALVE THAT BROKE OFF INTO MY HAND.
OCCASIONALLY (4 TIMES NOW) WHEN STOPPING OR STARTING OUT (FOOT ON BRAKE,CAR IN DRIVE) THE ACCELERATOR RACES FULL THROTTLE, LIKE I STOMPED ON ACCELERATOR, FOR A FEW SECONDS. I HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE FULL FORCE AND/OR PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. SCAREY!!! CALLED DEALER, BUT WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS. NO OFFER TO CHECK IT OUT. EMAILED MAZDAUSA ON JAN2 BUT NO RESPONSE OTHER THAN AUTOMATED RESPONSE SHOWING THEY RECEIVED MY EMAIL. TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP TO CHECK FOR CODES - NO CODES.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON CONTROL PANEL IS FLASHING WHEN I START THE ENGINE AFTER A WORKING DAY. NO RHYME OR REASON AT ALL. THERE IS NO ANY IMPACTION FROM OUTSIDE AND/OR GOING OVER BUMPERS. IT COMES IN AND OUT IN THE FIRST DAY AND TWO, AND THEN IT'S STAYED ON AND FLASHED THE CODE 19, WHICH ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL MEANS RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE - MEMORY FULL. SO I TOOK IT TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AT MY EXPENSE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER REPORT, THEY CANNOT RESET THE COMPUTER MODULE SUCH AS CLEAN MEMORY; INSTEAD, I AM ASKED TO REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING FOR FIX THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG. HOWEVER, IN THE MEANTIME, ALL THE CONTROLS ON THE STEERING ARE WORKING PERFECTLY, HORN/CRUSE CONTROL/ VOLUME CONTROL FOR THE STEREO.
THE ALARM KEEPS GOING OFF FOR NO REASON. I HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR LONG TIME. I TURN IT OFF AND IT WILL GO OFF AGAIN, THIS IS ALMOST DAILY.
THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR ILLUMINATED AND I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE TIRE WAS FLAT. IT WAS NOT. I DROVE TO A FILLING STATION TO TOP OFF THE PRESSURE AND AS I WAS DRIVING AWAY FROM THE AIR PUMP THE VALVE STEM TO THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE BROKE AND THE TIRE DEFLATED INSTANTLY. THE VALVE STEM WAS CORRODED. APPARENTLY IT WAS INITIALLY CRACKED SLIGHTLY CAUSING THE TIRE TO FIRST LOSE AIR SLOWLY. THEN, UPON MANIPULATION FROM THE PUMP FITTING, THE STEM WAS FURTHER DAMAGED CAUSING THE STEM TO BREAK OFF. I DID HAVE THIS HAPPEN ONCE BEFORE. THE EXPLANATION FROM A SERVICE STATION WAS THE SAME. IN THIS MODEL THE VALVE STEM AND PRESSURE SENSOR IS A SINGLE ASSEMBLY SO WHEN THE TIRE IS CHANGED THE VALVE STEM IS NOT CHANGED EVEN IF IT IS OLD AND SHOWING SIGNS OF AGING. OTHERWISE THE COST OF REPLACING A TIRE WOULD BE NEARLY DOUBLED. THE SENSOR ITSELF WILL LAST MUCH LONGER THAN ITS VALVE STEM. CONSEQUENTLY, THE STEMS DO EVENTUALLY CORRODE AND BREAK OFF AT INCONVENIENT, POSSIBLY DANGEROUS, TIMES. THE SERVICE STATIONS SAY THIS IS COMMON FOR THIS VINTAGE OF MAZDA. THE SERVICE REP SAID MINE WAS THE SECOND THEY REPAIRED ON THE VERY SAME DAY! AS I SAID, THIS HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE WHEN A STEM BROKE OFF AS I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY HOME PARKING SPOT. A COUPLE OF DAYS BEFORE THE THIS REPORTED EVENT, I TOOK A LONG ROAD TRIP AND A SUDDEN DEFLATION LIKE THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC! I HAVE CHECKED ON-LINE AND HAVE FOUND MANY IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS. IF IT HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED TO NHTSA BEFORE NOW, I AM QUITE AMAZED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 5. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR, BUT THE SLIDING DOOR FAILED TO LATCH. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT BOTH REAR DOOR LATCHES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V463000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
WENT TO INFLATE TIRES, VALVE STEM BROKE AND TIRE WENT COMPLETELY FLAT. I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE CAR WASN'T MOVING - I HAVE READ ABOUT THE VALVES FAILING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, WHEN IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
THE THIRD ROW SEATBELTS IN MY '09 MAZDA 5 BEING TOTALLY UNUSABLE FOR CHILDREN AND SOME ADULTS, INCLUDING MYSELF. THE SEATBELTS ARE POSITIONED SO HIGH AND SO FAR FORWARD THAT THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNSAFE, THEREFORE UNUSABLE. THE PROBLEM IS MASKED WITH A HIGH BACK BOOSTER SEAT BUT EVEN WITH A HIGH BACK BOOSTER SEAT, WHEN I JERKED AGAINST THE SEATBELT TO MAKE IT LOCK, THERE WAS AT LEAST 6 INCHES OF MOTION FORWARD AND SIDE-TO-SIDE BEFORE THE SEATBELT LOCKED. WHEN I TRIED THIS WITH A HIGH BACK BOOSTER IN THE 2ND ROW, THERE WAS MOTION ONLY 2 INCHES FORWARD AND NONE SIDE-TO-SIDE. THE SEATBELT PROBLEM IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND AM SHOCKED THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. THERE ALSO ISN'T LATCH IN THE THIRD ROW SO HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PUT ANYONE BACK THERE? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA, MAZDA 5. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A BOLT ON THE OIL ENGINE COOLER WAS FAULTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
GAS PEDAL IS TOO CLOSE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. I OFTEN HAVE ACCELERATED DEPRESSING THE WRONG PEDAL DUE TO THE EXTREME CLOSE PROXIMITY. WHILE PULLING UP TO THE GARAGE HIT THE GAS PEDAL INSTEAD OF THE BREAKS AND CAUSED BOTH VEHICLE AND GARAGE DAMAGE. I HAVE THOUGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS MANY TIMES. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED AND THE GARAGE MASONRY HAS BRICKS AND BLOCK WORK DAMAGE. TWO OF MY WHEELS HAVE BEEN WARPED. I HAVE ONLY A MEDIUM FOOT SIZE 10. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR ANYONE. *TR
