I HAVE BEEN TAKING MY 2009 MAZDA 6 (60,000 MILES) TO THE DEALER FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR. IT GETS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE A YEAR FOR REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS. ON THE MOST RECENT OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION, THEY SAID THAT THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER ENGINE CRADLE HAD SEVERE CORROSION AND RUSTED THROUGH. IF THE REPAIR IS NOT DONE AND THE WHEN, NOT IF, THE PART FAILS THE ENGINE MAY FALL OUT OF THE CAR AND THE FRONT TIRES WILL FAIL TO STEER. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY LIABILITY! A CRUCIAL COMPONENT TO SUPPORT THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE CAR SHOULD NOT RUST AND FAIL ON A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN 7,000 MILES DRIVEN PER YEAR.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (55-65MPH) THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN PROGRESSIVELY ROTATING COUNTER-CLOCKWISE WITH THE VEHICLE REMAINING STRAIGHT. THE DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL TURNED OFF AS IF THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE ACTED AS IF IT WERE ON ICY/SLICK SURFACES NO LONGER PROVIDING SUPPORT TO THE DRIVER. THE BRAKING SYSTEM BEGAN TO STRUGGLE NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT ON THE OFF RAMP OF THE EXPRESSWAY CAUSING A FISHTAIL WITH THE ABS ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE. AT THIS POINT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REGISTERING STRAIGHT' WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED APPROXIMATELY 30 DEGREES LEFT. SOMEHOW AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 15 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE LOCAL MAZDA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS A SERVICE HISTORY FOR AN EMERGENCY SERVICE INSPECTION. A TEST DRIVE WITH A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SUPPORTED THE OWNER'S COMPLAINTS OF A SEVERE SAFETY CONCERN WITH RIGHT TURNS CAUSING A SIGNIFICANT 'GRINDING'/METALLIC DRAGGING SOUND AS IF THE VEHICLE'S RIGHT UNDER-SIDE WAS CONTACTING THE GROUND. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE IN THE LIFT THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THERE WAS FRONT PASSENGER FRAME METAL CORROSION WHICH WAS BREAKING OFF IN CHUNKS. THE DEALERSHIP VOICED AWARENESS OF ANOTHER 2009 MAZDA6 WITH SIMILAR MILES (APPROXIMATELY 15,000 FEWER) HAVING NEARLY THE SAME ISSUE LAST FALL/WINTER. THE VEHICLE IN THIS REPORT HAS APPROXIMATELY 189,000 PRIMARILY HIGHWAY MILES AND IS OTHERWISE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR ITS YEAR/MAKE/MODEL. THE AFOREMENTIONED FRAME FAILURE SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AND IS BELIEVED TO BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT WHICH SHOULD NOT BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER. FORTUNATELY IN THIS CASE THERE WAS NOT AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT/COLLISION, INJURY, OR DEATH THOUGH THIS COULD HAVE EASILY HAPPENED. I DO BELIEVE THERE IS AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS PROBLEM HERE AND NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS HUMAN LIVES ARE AT STAKE.
TOOK MY CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP TO INVESTIGATE A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM MY CAR. THE RATTLING WAS CAUSED BY THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD BEING LOOSE. WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING LOOKED AT THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SUB FRAME WAS RUSTING AWAY. THIS TRANSPIRED JANUARY 18, 2018. THE REPAIR SHOP HAS BEEN TRYING TO GET A REPLACEMENT PART WITHOUT SUCCESS. I AM NOW BEING TOLD THAT THE EARLIEST THEY COULD GET ONE IS THE MIDDLE OF MAY. MY INSPECTION EXPIRED THE END OF MARCH. I FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT MAZDA DOESN'T HAVE THIS PART AVAILABLE ANYWHERE. I FORTUNATELY HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR.
I TOOK MY CAR TO FERMAN MAZDA OF BRANDON 9809 ADAMO DRIVE, TAMPA (813) 623-6600 TO GET THE RECALL DONE. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR TWO AND HALF MONTHS. SAID THEY DID RECALL ON AIRBAG. NOW MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND DOESN'T SHUT OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY REPLACED THE PARTS THAT THEY RECALLED BUT NOW I CHECKED ONLINE IT SAYS IT WASN' AND AIRBAG LIGHT TURNED ON. NOW I KNOW THAT THEY DIDN'T DO WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS DONE.
SHINY, MELTING DASHBOARDS BLINDING DRIVERS, I RECEIVE A NOTIFICATION TO CHANGE DASHBOARDS BY THE MAZDA, I TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE CONSIGNEE THEY NOTIFY ME THAT BECAUSE IT IS IN THE RECONSTRUCTED CATEGORY, THE CHANGE WILL NOT BE CARRIED. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH OF FLORIDA WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE HIGH THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, APART FROM THE DANGEROUS GLARE THE GASES GENERATED BY THE RIGHT OF THE PLASTIC ARE AFFECTING MY HEALTH.
ENGINE CRADLE BROKE, CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK UP. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATLY 45 MPH STRAIGHT ON A RURAL STATE ROUTE, I BRAKED SLIGHTLY TO SLOW DOWN THEN THE CAR JUST LOCKED UP AND SLID OFF THE ROAD. HAD IT TOWED AND FOUND THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS BROKEN. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND THIS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL.
STEERING SAFETY ISSUE URGENT. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY LOST STEERING, FRONT END OF VEHICLE ELEVATED UPON TURNING STEERING WHEEL WHEN IT WAS STOPPED AND STATIONARY. SUBFRAME OF VEHICLE ROTTED PREMATURELY ALLOWING STEERING LINKAGE ATTACHED TO SUBFRAME TO BECOME DETACHED. VEHICLE UNSAFE AND REQUIRED TOW TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP INSPECTED VEHICLE AND REPORTED SUBFRAME NEEDED REPLACEMENT IN ORDER TO FIX SAFETY ISSUE - CAR NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN UNTIL REPAIR COMPLETE. VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED AT SAME DEALERSHIP FOR YEARS AND ISSUE NEVER REPORTED WITH SUBFRAME. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION FOR THESE VEHICLES. TECHNICIAN VERBALLY REPORTED THAT PREMATURE RUST/ROT COULD BE DUE TO LOCATION OF AC CONDENSER DRAIN LINE. SUBFRAME REPLACED WITH NEW MAZDA OEM SUBFRAME. FRIEND WITH SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR RECENTLY REPORTED SAME ISSUE WITH SUBFRAME.
THE VEHICLE IS 8 YEARS OLD, HAS 133000 MILES, HAS HAD 1 OWNER, AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN HOUSED IN A GARAGE. DESPITE THIS, THE FRONT SUB-FRAME ASSEMBLY IS RUSTED AND ROTTING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I ORIGINALLY BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO GET THE RIGHT INNER/OUTER TIE RODS AND TIE ROD BOOT REPLACED, BUT ONCE ON A LIFT A MECHANIC IDENTIFIED THE PERVASIVE RUST. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE RUST/ROT WAS SO BAD THAT THE MOUNT POINT FOR THE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY NO LONGER ATTACHES TO THE SUB-FRAME.
BROUGHT VEHICLE IN TO A MECHANIC TO REPLACE RIGHT-SIDE INNER/OUTER TIE RODS DUE TO KNOCKING SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO ONE SIDE. MECHANIC GOT IT ON A LIFT AND SHOWED ME THE TIE RODS WEREN'T THE PROBLEM, IT WAS THE FACT THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME WAS SO ROTTED THAT THE TIE RODS WEREN'T ATTACHED TO IT ANYMORE, THEY WERE JUST FREE FLOATING. MECHANIC SAID THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND THE SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACE ASAP. AFTER REMOVING THE ROTTED SUBFRAME, IT WAS OBVIOUS TO SEE THAT THE LARGE AMOUNT OF RUST THAT HAD FORMED WAS DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THE A/C WASTE WATER PORT. IT'S JUST A PLASTIC OPENING STICKING OUT OF THE FIREWALL, SO ALL THE WASTE WATER IS DRIPPING/POURING DOWN FROM THE OPENING AND ENDS UP SITTING ON THE SUBFRAME AND CAUSING RUST. THERE IS ALSO AN INTENTIONAL HOLE IN THE SUBFRAME RIGHT BELOW THE WASTE WATER PORT, SO THE WATER ALSO GETS INTO THE FRAME AND TRAVELS DOWN ITS LENGTH TO SPREAD OUT ALL THE RUST AND CORROSION. I HAD TO BUY SOME HOSE CLAMPS AND A PLASTIC ELBOW AND SOME VINYL TUBING TO DIRECT THE WASTE WATER DOWN BELOW MY BRAND NEW SUBFRAME SO THAT I DON'T END UP RUSTING IT OUT AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL HAD TO BE TURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER IN A PARKING LOT AND HEARD A SCREECHING SOUND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE STEERING WHEEL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT CALLED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS ROTTED OUT AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SWAY BAR LINK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER, MAZDA OF BEDFORD IN BEDFORD, OHIO, WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING IN THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 1-836240644. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY ALIGNMENT GOING OUT HAD IT DONE AND A DAY LATER WENT BACK OUT. APON REVIEW IT TURN OUT THE SUB FRAME BY THE MOTOR CRADLE IS DISINTEGRATED CAUSING THE PROBLEMS WITH STEERING AND ALIGNMENT.
TAKATA INFLATORS: I RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES (E.G. 16V-594, 13V425000, 11V134000, 09V043000) REGARDING MY 2009 MAZDA6 ([XXX]) AND TRACY MAZDA CONDUCTED VARIOUS REPAIRS. DURING EACH REPAIR, I MENTIONED THE AIRBAG INFLATOR ALERT (SEE ATTACHMENT). AFTER SERVICE OR REPAIR WAS CONDUCTED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RESET OR CLEARED BY THE MECHANIC. FOR A PERIOD OF ONE WEEK OF COMMUTING (HOME TO WORK OR VICE VERSA), THE INFLATOR INDICATOR DISAPPEARED. THEN IT RETURNED, DURING SHORT WARM UP, AFTER DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE, INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS/FREEWAYS, ETC. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE FOLLOWING THE LAST RECALL/SERVICE-REPAIR PER RECEIPTS NOTATION, I WAS INFORMED THAT I HAVE TO PAY $85 FOR DIAGNOSIS FEE BECAUSE THE AIR INFLATOR INDICATOR IS NOT A PART OF THE FOREGOING PROBLEM. IF INDEED THE NECESSARY REPAIRS WERE DONE RIGHT, SHOULD MY VEHICLE AIRBAG INFLATOR INDICATOR WOULD INDICATE A WARNING? IS RESETTING THE AIRBAG INFLATOR INDICATOR THE "REAL" SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM? IN SEPTEMBER 2017 WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THERE WAS A SUDDEN AND SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL FOLLOWING A LOUD KNOCK ORIGINATING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER/SUB-FRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED TO THE POINT OF BREAKING. THE STEERING RACK BECAME TOTALLY SEPARATED FROM ITS MOUNTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RESULTING IN THE STEERING LOSS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT 85,583 MILES. SINCE THE FAILURE I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO GET THIS FIXED. HOWEVER, EVEN AFTER TRYING TO GET A REPLACEMENT SUB-FRAME FROM 4 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO GET ONE FOR THE LAST 7 MONTHS. THEY ARE BACK ORDERED AND EVERY TIME THE DATE COMES AROUND, THE DATE IS PUSHED BACK FURTHER AGAIN, AGAIN, AND AGAIN. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO MAZDA'S NORTH AMERICAN CUSTOMER SERVICE (SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER 1-1245266941) AND IN THE LAST MONTH HAVE GOTTEN NO MORE THAN WE'LL LOOK INTO WHEN A REPLACEMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE. IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT IS APPARENT THAT THIS IS FAR FROM AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AS MANY OTHERS WITH THIS MODEL CAR REPORT FAILURES OF THIS EXACT NATURE. THE EMPLOYEES OF THE LOCAL MAZDA PARTS DEPARTMENTS ARE WELL AWARE OF THE COMPLAINTS AS WELL AND HAVE STATED TO ME THEY ARE SURPRISED THAT MAZDA HAS NOT INITIATED A RECALL OR TSB REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THESE FAILURES HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO CREATE A SIGNIFICANT RISK OF INJURY AND IT IS MY BELIEF THAT MAZDA IS NOT TREATING THIS SITUATION WITH THE SERIOUSNESS AND PROMPTNESS THAT IT WARRANTS. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS SAME PART IS WAS INSTALLED ON NOT ONLY THE 2009 MODELS, BUT ALL MODEL YEARS THROUGH 2013. IF THERE IS NOT CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN, IT IS REASONABLE TO EXPECT THIS PROBLEM TO PERSIST FOR YEARS TO COME AS THE OTHER LATER MODELS AGE.
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS ABOVE 30 THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT FLICKERS AND THE DOME LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE DOOR LATCH RECALLS FIXED ON MY CAR. IT IS FIGHTEN TO THINK THE DOOR MAY FLY OPEN
FRONT SUBFRAME AND ENGINE SUPPORT RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT THAT IT WAS CRACKED AND BROKEN HAD TO BE REPLACED BEFORE IT RESULTED IN CATASTROPHE LOSS OF CONTROL. I HAD TO REPLACE THIS PART @ $2500 JUST TO KEEP CAR DRIVE ABLE. I'VE SINCE SOLD CAR AFTER FRAME WAS REPLACED WITH NEW OEM PART.
I WENT FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND FOUND OUT THAT THE FRAME THAT HOLDS THE ENGINE IN PLACE WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT AND THAT MY ENGINE COULD FALL OUT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. ALSO, BECAUSE OF THE ROT, THE ROD THAT SHOULD BE ATTACHED TO THE STEERING WAS NOT ATTACHED BECAUSE THE BOLTS HAD NOTHING TO ADHERE TO. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN ME DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER AND LOSING MY STEERING AND POSSIBLY GETTING IN A FATAL ACCIDENT. THE CAR IS IN THE SHOP AS IT IS NOT ABLE TO BE DRIVEN PER MY MECHANIC FOR SAFETY REASONS AS WELL AS FAILING INSPECTION FRO THIS. HEADLIGHT HARNESS COMES LOOSE FREQUENTLY, RESULTING IN LOSS OF HEADLIGHT. MUST EITHER HIT THE HEADLIGHT FORCEFULLY OR MANUALLY SECURE HEADLIGHT BY REMOVING WHEEL WELL. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE HAVE REPORTEDLY EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT. UNCERTAIN WHETHER THIS OCCURS WHILE STATIONARY OR MOVING, BUT IMAGINE VIBRATION FROM MOTION WILL KNOCK IT LOOSE AGAIN. THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN AFTER MANUALLY ADJUSTING THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT VIA THE HARNESS IN ORDER TO TURN IT BACK ON. THE RIGHT LIGHT IS DIMMER THAN THE LEFT, SUGGESTING A GROUND ISSUE.
FAULTY E-BRAKE. E-BRAKE BUTTON HAS CORRODED AWAY AND WILL NO LONGER HOLD THE CAR IN PARK (CAR IS A MANUAL, SO THIS IS PARTICULARLY CONCERNING SINCE THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO OFFICALLY KEEP THE CAR IN PARK WHEN TURNED OFF). CAR WAS PARKED IN A STATIONARY POSITION, ON A SLIGHTLY SLANTED ROAD. CAME BACK AND CAR HAD SLIGHTLY BACKED UP INTO CAR BEHIND IT BECAUSE PARKING BREAK HAD 'LET GO'. LUCKILY SLANT WAS SMALL ENOUGH TO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CAR BEHIND MINE, AND ONLY LEFT A MINOR DENT IN MY REAR BUMPER. INSIDE OF CAR WAS HOT (IT WAS A USUAL HOT DAY) AND SEEMED AS THOUGH THE ACTUAL PARKING BREAK BUTTON, OR GLUE THAT HELD IT ON, HAD MELTED. I CAN NOW NO LONGER KEEP THE BREAK IN PARK - HAVE TO EITHER PUT IT IN FIRST GEAR, OR PHYSICALLY HOLD THE BREAK UP WITH SOMETHING UNDERNEATH, PUTTING MY CAR AND OTHER AT RISK FOR CAR ROLLING BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY WAS DAMAGED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. BASS MAZDA (LOCATED AT 4900 DETROIT RD, ELYRIA, OH) WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
SYMPTOMS: ALIGNMENT OF THE CAR WAS NOT CORRECT, STEERING WHEEL NOT CENTERED, WHEN BREAKING TIRE GRIP WAS LIMITED. RAIN EXAGGERATED THE SYMPTOMS, CAR WOULD SLIDE EASY AND WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP(TIRES ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION). RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAMBER SIGNIFICANTLY OUT. VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE TIRE INDICATED CAMBER WAS NOT CORRECT. INVESTIGATION INTO POTENTIAL WEAR ITEMS WAS COMPLETED SEARCHING FOR THE POSSIBILITIES OF WORN LOWER BALL JOINT, SHOCK TOWER CONNECTIONS AND STEERING RELATED COMPONENTS. ALL ITEMS APPEARED NORMAL. FURTHER INVESTIGATION TO CONNECTIONS OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM REVEALED SIGNIFICANT CORROSION AND SEPARATION OF WELDED STEEL ON THE ENGINE CRADLE(ALSO KNOWN AS FRONT SUB FRAME/FRONT CROSS MEMBER/FRONT K-FRAME) CORROSION WEAKENED THE CROSSMEMBER SUFFICIENTLY TO ALLOW NORMAL EVERYDAY DRIVING TO BEND THE CROSSMEMBER AND CREATED THE OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND CAMBER ISSUE. CONTINUING TO DRIVE IN THIS STATE COULD HAVE RESULTED IN THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BREAKING THE CROSSMEMBER COMPLETELY AND LIKELY AT A TIME WHEN SIGNIFICANT BREAKING WOULD BE REQUIRED. TAKATA RECALL-I GOT A RECALL MESSAGE IN THE MAIL. I WENT TO DEALER-MAINTENANCE AND THEY SAID THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE A COPY OF THE REPORT AT HOME. I HAD IT ( SUPPOSEDLY) FIXED AND THEN I GOT A NOTICE FROM MAZDA CORPORATE THAT IT STILL WAS NOT FIXED. I HAVE AN INTERMITTENT STEADY AIRBAG ALARM. THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT 8/10/17. I REPORTED TO THE DEALER THAT I GOT A NOTICE IT HAD NOT BEEN FIXED YET. THEY SAID THEY DID FIX IT AND THE NOTICE WAS ABOUT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND IT WAS A NEW AIRBAG RECALL. ON ARRIVAL I WAS INFORMED THE REQUIRED PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE CALLED WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVED. I WAS NEVER CALLED. ON AUGUST 1, I LEFT A VOICE MAIL WITH A SERVICE TECH ASKING IF THE PARTS WERE IN. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. IN MID-AUGUSTT, I WENT TO THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN PERSON. I WAS TOLD THE PARTS WOULD ARRIVE THE NEXT DAY AND THAT A SERVICE TECH WOULD CALL ME THE NEXT DAY. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. THE RECALL WORK REMAINS UNDONE.
TAKATA RECALL THERE HAVE BEEN TWO RECALLS IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS ON THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG OF MY CAR. THEY "FIXED" BOTH PROBLEMS BUT ARE STILL TELLING ME MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WON'T WORK IN AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT ME PAYING $500 FOR THEM TO REPLACE A THIRD PART OF THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. IT IS CLEAR TO ME THIS ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IS FAULTY AND IF THEY ARE MESSING WITH THE LIVES OF THEIR CONSUMERS BY EXTORTING SAFETY FOR MONEY WHEN THEY KNOW THE FLAW IS IN THEIR OWN INSTALLATION/PARTS THEY ARE AN UNETHICAL BRAND. IT SEEMS MORE LIKELY THAT THEY ARE INSISTING ON THIS PURCHASE IN EXCHANGE FOR SAFETY SO THEY CAN MAKE BACK SOME OF THE MONEY THAT THE PREVIOUS RECALLS HAVE COST THEM. EITHER WAY, THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE WHATEVER ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS MIGHT BE DAMAGED DUE TO MAZDA. IT IS NOT FEASIBLE THAT THREE COMPONENTS OF MY PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG HAVE GONE WRONG IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS BUT THE ONLY TWO UNDER RECALL WERE NOT THE ISSUE. THEY ARE TELLING ME THE CURRENT ISSUE REQUIRES AN REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE AIR BAG MODULE.

I WAS WORKING WITH DGDG AUTO GROUP, WHO OWN BOTH CAPITOL MAZDA AND STEVEN'S CREEK MAZDA IN SAN JOSE, CA. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS RESOLVED SINCE I RECEIVED THE FIRST RECALL IN 2016. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT PARTS WERE NOT IN STOCK, THAT I HAD TO WAIT FOR THE INDICATOR LIGHT TO CHANGE FROM FLASHING TO SOLID OR VICE VERSA. EVEN THE EXPERIENCE THE LAST TWO DAYS HAS BE SUBSTANDARD, BUT I WON'T LIST THE REASONS FOR THAT. I JUST WANTED TO RECORD MY EXTREME FRUSTRATION GETTING THIS GLARING SAFETY ISSUE RESOLVED. THE SUBFRAME ON MY 2009 MAZDA6 HAS BEEN NOTICEABLY RUSTING OVER THE YEARS SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A MAZDA DEALER AS THE ORIGINAL OWNER. OVER THE PREVIOUS YEAR, MID 2016 TO MID 2017, MY MECHANIC HAD BECOME INCREASINGLY CONCERNED WITH THE CONSEQUENCES THAT WOULD COME FROM THE SUBFRAME RUST AND SUGGESTED WE START DOCUMENTING AND REFERRING THE PROBLEM TO MAZDA. THE MECHANIC'S CONCERN WAS RELATED TO THE DECREASE IN STRENGTH OF THE SUBFRAME AND ITS ABILITY TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE ENGINE WEIGHT. HIS FEAR WAS THAT THE ENGINE WOULD DROP OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR ONTO THE ROAD AFTER GOING OVER A BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY. THE MAZDA6 WAS BROUGHT INTO A MAZDA DEALER IN MARCH AND JUNE OF 2017 FOR SERVICE RELATED TO BRAKE LIGHT AND TAKATA INFLATOR RECALL. THE PROBLEM WITH THE RUSTED SUBFRAME WAS IDENTIFIED BY THE SERVICE MECHANIC DURING THE SECOND VISIT, JUNE 1, 2017, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT NOTED ON THE SERVICE TICKET "SUBFRAME ROTTED" AND "CAR IS NOT SAFE"(ATTACHED). THE PROBLEM WAS ALSO DIRECTED TO MAZDA ON THEIR ON-LINE COMPLAINT SERVICE. THE ORIGINAL TEXT TO MAZDA IS NOT AVAILABLE FROM ME AS THIS WAS AN ON-LINE FORM AS THIS ONE IS. THE RESPONSE FROM MAZDA (ATTACHED) WAS THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE SUBFRAME RUST PROBLEM AND THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE DID NOT COVER THE SUBFRAME RUST PROBLEM. IT IS UNIMAGINABLE TO ME OR ANYONE THAT I HAVE PRESENTED THIS ISSUE TOO, THAT A CAR WITH DAILY USE AND TYPICAL MILEAGE WOULD HAVE A SUBFRAME THAT IS RESULTS IN A VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE AFTER ONLY 7-8 YEARS.
THE FRONT ENGINE CRADLE/SUBFRAME, LOWER CONTROL ARMS IS RUSTED/CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT I WAS ADVISED CAR WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION AND THAT IF PARTS FAILED, ENGINE WOULD FALL UNDER CAR AND I COULD LOOSE ALL STEERING/BRAKES. PER REQUEST FROM MAZDA CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHO CONFIRMED EXTENT OF CORROSION. THIS CORROSION DID NOT HAPPEN IN AN INSTANT AFTER WARRANTY BUT STARTED AND CONTINUED TO WORSEN DURING WARRANTY PERIOD. ONLY SAW THIS WHEN NON-DEALER WAS PUTTING NEW TIRES ON CAR AND NOTED EXTENT OF CORROSION.

WE HAVE RECEIVED NOTICES NOT THAT STATE IN BOLD UNDERLINED PRINT "UNTIL THIS REPAIR IS PERFORMED, DO NOT ALLOW PASSENGERS TORIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. NOW WE CAN NOT HAVE ANYONE USE THAT SEAT AND I SURE DON'T WANT MY GRANDSON TO BE IN A CAR SEAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BACK SEAT FOR FEAR THAT HE COULD BE INJURED! 2009 MAZDA6 POSSIBLE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THE STEERING RACK MOUNTING BOLT ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE FRAME. THE MOUNTING BOSS ON THE CROSS MEMBER FRAME (ENGINE CRADLE) IS RUSTED OUT AFTER 8 WINTERS AND 69000 MILES. THE STEERING RACK IS ONLY CONNECTED ON THE LEFT SIDE BY 2 BOLTS THAT WILL FAIL SOON. AT THAT POINT THERE WOULD BE A TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHEN THE RACK BREAKS FREE OF ITS MOUNTS. I FOUND THIS AFTER NOTICING THAT THE CAR MADE A NOISE WHEN TURNING, ALSO WHILE IN PARK AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH, THE FRONT END OF THE CAR WOULD LIFT UP AND BACK DOWN. I INSPECTED THE FRONT RIGHT FOR A CAUSE AND FOUND THE RACK WAS LOOSE. I BELIEVE IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION.

AS WELL AS THE TAKATA RECALL, THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE IS LITERALLY MELTING OFF. THE AIRBAG COVER IS STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND WHO KNOWS IF IT IS MELTED INTO PLACE. I'VE SEEN MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS AND I'VE SEEN THAT MAZDA HAS TRIED TO CHARGE PEOPLE FOR LABOR WHICH IS ABSURD.
THE DASHBOARD IN MY CAR IS MELTING AND IS STICKY AND SHINNY. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN AND IF TOUCHED IT RESULTS IN BLACK PLASTIC FRAGMENTS COMING OFF. THE DASHBOARD REMAINS LIKE THIS NO MATTER THE WEATHER AND EVEN IF IT IS NO LONGER HOT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE CAR. THE MOST IMPACTED AREA IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE GETTING WORSE THIS SUMMER.
