NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Mazda Mazda6. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
I pulled into my parking space in front of garage door, I came to a complete stop and positively without any doubt, put my foot on the brake. As I shifted to park, all of a sudden engine loudly revved up and car suddenly and quickly accelerated through garage door. I want to make it perfectly clear, I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ACCIDENTLY ON THE ACCELERATOR WHEN CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. Mazda checked the car and said nothing was wrong with the car. This has happened to many other people with Mazda and other makes and people are told too many times that there is nothing wrong the car when it clearly is not human error.
My 2014 mazda 6 EVAP system pops the p0451 when filling up gas to the first click. It goes away after a while if I take care to not fill up the tank all the way to the top. It is similar to a issue reported by recall 7414D for other 2014 mazda 6s. My car is not covered by the open recall, but it is experiencing similar issues. The p0451 goes on and off depending on how much i fill up the gastank.
At 70000 miles the transmission just got stuck into a single gear in manual. I drove it home and the check engine light came on. Before this problem the car would not go into park. Every time I put it into park I was unable to turn off the car because it thought it was still in gear. I had to fiddle the gear stick. The car also made a high pitch click (metallic) when shifting into 1st or Reverse from park. I took it to Capitol Mazada San Jose and they charged me $7000 to fix some transmission problem. I took it home and the clicking noise did not go away. I took it back to the dealer and they redid some work.
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that while parked, there was a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. In addition, there was fuel leaking from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V170000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 144,000.
The car had a (SUA) Sudden Unintended Acceleration malfunction. No, the car was totaled and towed away. My safety was put at risk as I was slowly pulling into a parking spot, eased my foot onto the brake and this malfunction caused my car to involuntarily jolt into a rampant high speed. It jumped a curb and crashed into a tree. My brake was useless in stopping this runaway vehicle. The only thing that stopped it was that tree! The airbag deployed and I was badly bruised from the airbag. Fortunately, there were no pedestrians or other cars near mine. There were no warning lights or messages before, during or after the accident. It happened so quickly because the tree was only a few feet in front of my car.
The Shifter Park Switch failed, causing the vehicle to say on when turning the vehicle off. This causes the battery to drain and created a bad cell battery. This caused the vehicle to turn off while in motion driving multiple times putting the driver and surrounding vehicles at risk. This vehicle has been inspected by the Mazda dealership/manufacturer.
The incident occurred while operating a diligently maintained 2014 Mazda 6 Touring, overseen by dealership service. While driving, the check engine light illuminated, prompting an immediate halt. Upon inspection, a concerning observation was made: the coolant level was significantly low. Despite no apparent leaks, further examination revealed a crack in the cylinder head, allowing coolant to mix with the oil. This issue, specific to Mazda's 2.5L Skyactiv engine, has been identified as a manufacturing defect, independent of overheating. Notably, this problem has been echoed by multiple users, confirming the presence of defective cylinder heads in these vehicles. This flaw necessitates an expensive repair, absolving the vehicle owner of any responsibility. Despite the widespread occurrence of this issue, Mazda has declined to issue a recall for vehicles equipped with these faulty cylinder blocks. Online forums and discussions have highlighted numerous instances of identical cracks in the same location, affirming the prevalence of this problem with Mazda's 2.5L engines. This poses a serious concern for vehicle safety and warrants attention from both Mazda and vehicle owners. Additional information regarding this issue can be found through the provided links. When I put the car in park and push the push start/stop button, the car shuts off but the accessories and middle console display stay on. I have to keep shifting the car between the park position and the drive position before I put it back to the park position for the car to completely shut-off. This car is available for inspection. As far as safety is concerned, the only thing I can think of is that if the car does not completely shut off the battery would drain and not be able to start the car. I took the car to my mechanic and he said that I need to take it to the dealer. The dealer was informed and the dealer said that it was not a recall. The car was only inspected by my mechanic. There were no warning lights or messages in the car or symptoms prior to this happening.
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V393000) (Parking Brake). The contact stated that after the recall repair was completed and she arrived at her destination and attempted to shut off the vehicle, the vehicle failed to shut off. The contact disconnected the battery to shut off the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
The car will not go into Park right away. As previously reported, I have to start the car multiple times to get it into Park--can take up to 10 plus minutes before the car will go into Parkand shut off--only then I can lock the car! Very frustrating since it's a known issue and still has not been recalled
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that on multiple occasions, the vehicle would stall upon the depression of the accelerator pedal as a fuel odor would emit from the vehicle. The check engine light would also appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle had been taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel line O-ring seal on three separate occasions. The manufacturer nor the dealer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Blind side modules have to be replaced. Mazda bulletin BSM indicator flashing dtc u3000 2013-2015 Mazda. No accidents or body damage yet dealers is asking $2100 dollars for repair. 2014 Mazda 6 with 99k miles. BSM is very useful and functional when working and provides an added element of safety.
I was at a doctor's office and their parking lot has a large slope. I parked facing up the slope and applied the parking brake. When I exited the vehicle, I felt the vehicle slowly sliding backwards. I pushed rearward on the car to check if the brakes were holding which accelerated the roll. I jumped back in the vehicle and depressed the brake pedal to stop the roll. I replaced the rear brake pads and noticed extremely uneven wear. Additionally, the left-rear caliper parking brake actuator was bound-up and wouldn't function. I exercised the actuator to loosen it up a bit which should be just enough until I can order the part. I experienced this same issue with my parking brake in 2017. In 2017, I took the car to the dealer who replace the rear brake calipers under recall 17V393000. I called the dealer today 8/16/2022 and they stated the calipers cannot be replaced under warranty or recall again. I find it extremely disturbing that the parking brake would experience such an extreme failure twice in the 8 years I've owned this vehicle. In 2017, the parking brake released suddenly while the car was unattended sending the car down my 100ft driveway, glancing my house and crashing through a wooden fence before stopping. Luckily, this time (2022), I know of the prior issue and can be proactive about replacing the faulty part. These calipers need a redesign where the calipers can last more than 5 years before such a safety failure... or that the parking brake not functioning while unattended isn't the first indication of failure.
Ignition does not turn off when pressing start/stop button draining battery with car completely shutting down while driving, coasting to the side of road almost causing an accident. Second time, car was parked, would not restart, had to get a jumpstart as battery was drained once again. Third time, car wouldn't restart at all and car had to be towed.
The vehicle wont shut completely off when you press the start/stop button after shifting into "Park". The relay that tells the car it's in Park is faulty and the car wont shut off all the way. This will drain the battery and not allow the driver to lock the doors when they exit the vehicle. This is stranding hazard I've seen lots of YouTube videos and online forum complaints about this problem. It should be added to the recall list
After driving when i got to put the vehicle into park- I place it in park but it gives me a error saying not in park
The contact's son owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated that while her son was attempting to shift into PARK, the vehicle failed to recognize the gear selected, causing the battery to drain over time. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
I think it is unfair that a manufacturing problem has been unnoticed and left to people to pay for. I am already paying enough for this car to also have to worry about a manufacturing problem that has been left unattended by the company. This certainly is very dangerous as I might have the cars battery die and have no way of getting immediate help and right now it's just the car not acknowledging the parking mode but what if one day the car starts using the wrong shift unknowingly to me and I end up in a car accident because of this? I wont be able to do anything as this has been left unnoticed and no recall has been made even with the dangers it presents to the driver and the car itself. Some of this informations was found on https://Mazda.oemdtc.com/665/ignition-does-not-turn-off-when-pressing-startstop-button-2013-2014-Mazda
When pressing the start stop button, the ignition may not turn off the accessories, even with the shifter in park position, and the vehicle engine shuts off normally the ignition stays on in accessory mode. This can cause battery drain/dead, possibly leaving me stranded in the dangerous situation. This has been unknown problem that is been refused by Mazda to create a recall. Right now it’s the car not acknowledging it’s in park because of a faulty switch, that Mazda clearly knows about and has had tons of complaints about and is well documented with NHTSA. How bad does this need to get before Mazda puts out a recall for all vehicles affected. Eventually, it will never be able to go to park and I may get in my car to drive it and it starts off in the wrong shift the wrong and I end up in a car accident. I’m sure Mazda wouldn’t want any crashes, fires, injuries or deaths on their hands do this well established faulty switch that they refused to recall.
RADIO AND ACCESSORIES DO NOT ALWAYS SHUT OFF WHEN ENGINE IS TURNED OFF CAUSING ELECTRICAL DRAIN ON BATTERY. HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES. DEALERS THINK IT COULD BE PARK SWITCH. ANY RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE?
AS MANY OF US HAVE EXPERIENCED, I ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE ACCESSORY MODE STAYING ON AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF. BASED ON MY RESEARCH, IT APPEARS TO BE THE PARKING SWITCH INSIDE THE SHIFTER WEARS OFF AND THE CAR DOESN?T REGISTER THE CAR IS IN PARK. MAZDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS, AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED BATTERY DRAINAGE AND IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE WITH TIME. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN RIGHT AROUND THE 50-75K MILEAGE, JUST OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD. IT JUST SEEMS TOO PREMATURE AND NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS AFTER 100K MILES. IT HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY. *TR
AS I PUT IN PARK MODE TO TURN OFF (PUSH BUTTON) VEHICLE STAY ON ACCESSORY , RADIO AND ALARM BEEPING STAYS ON AND DOES NOT GO OFF... I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND REVIEWS ON MAZDA 6 & MAZDA CX5 EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM, GOING BACK FROM 2012 AND I JUST HAD A RECALL DONE ON MY CALIPERS, AND THEY SAID THEY REPLACED THE DOOR PADDING BUT NOTHING SHOWED OF NEW MATERIAL. WHEN I ASKED THEM ABOUT THE START /STOP PROBLEM THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM.. TODAY I HAVE BEEN DOING RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND READ LOTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHY IS IT NOT A RECALL ISSUE THEIR HAS BEEN SO MANY COMPLAINTS... THANK YOU FOR READING MY ISSUES. *TR
I OWN A 2014 MAZDA 6 GRAND TOURING. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 72K MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT THE CAR A YEAR AGO AND STARTING A FEW MONTHS AGO THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER HITTING THE IGNITION BUTTON. THE CAR PANEL WOULD SAY THAT I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARKING EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS ALREADY IN PARKING MODE. USUALLY I WAS ABLE TO SIMPLY MOVE THE SHIFT STICK A BIT AND IT WOULD ALLOW ME TO TURN THE CAR OFF COMPLETELY. BUT IT HAS GOTTEN WORST OVER TIME AND IT'S BEGINNING TO AFFECT MY BATTERY LIFE. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT MY CAR IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. BASED ON THE INFORMATION I FOUND MANE OF THE 2014 MAZDA 6 MODELS (SPECIFICALLY THOSE MANUFACTURED LATE 2013 AND EARLY 2014) HAVE BEEN SHOWING THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH UNIT. MAZDA FOUND THE PROBLEM AND FIXED IT IN THE NEWER CARS BUT A RECALL WAS NEVER MADE FOR THOSE CARS WITH THE BAD SWITCH UNIT. I TRIED CONTACTING THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEM TODAY AND THEIR ANSWER WAS THAT BECAUSE A RECALL HADN'T BEEN DONE THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WON'T BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING AS THIS HAS BEEN LEFT UNNOTICED AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN MADE EVEN WITH THE DANGERS IT PRESENTS TO THE DRIVER AND THE CAR ITSELF. SOME OF THIS INFORMATIONS WAS FOUND ON HTTPS://MAZDA.OEMDTC.COM/665/IGNITION-DOES-NOT-TURN-OFF-WHEN-PRESSING-STARTSTOP-BUTTON-2013-2014-MAZDA. *TR
I WAS AT WALMART ABOUT 3 WEEKS AGO AND WHEN I FINISHED SHOPPING I CAME OUT TO MY VEHICLE IN AN ALMOST EMPTY PARKING LOT AND MY CAR WOULD NOT START. WITH PEOPLE ALREADY SCARED ABOUT THE CORONA VIRUS NO ONE WAS WILLING TO HELP. SINCE THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE I ENDED UP HAVING TO CALL A RELATIVE FROM TO COME AND HELP ME HE TOLD ME THAT MY BATTERY HAD DIED, I TOLD HIM THAT THAT COULDN'T BE THE PROBLEM WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND I SAW WHERE THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF MAZDA CAR OWNERS WHO WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN IN PARK DRAINING BATTERY. I JOINED THE LONG LIST OF MAZDA OWNERS BY CALLING MAZDA COMPLAINING ABOUT THE APPARENT MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT AND WAS MET WITH THE SAME SCRIPTED SCRIP. "SORRY BUT THEY HAVE NOT RECEIVED ENOUGH COMPLAINTS FOR A RECALL AND THEY FELT THAT THIS WAS REALLY NOT A "SAFETY" ISSUE, REALLY? A WOMAN BEING STRANDED IN AND EMPTY PARKING LOT AT NIGHT WITH NO SECURITY IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, I DON'T SEE WHAT IS. MAZDA KNOW AND HAS KNOWN FOR YEARS ABOUT THE GEAR SHIFT BEING DEFECTED BUT HAS IGNORED THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN CALLED IN BECAUSE WHEN WE CALL IN TO CS THEY DON'T RECORD COMPLAINT SO THEREFORE NEVER ENOUGH REGISTERED COMPLAINTS
2-3 MONTHS AGO I NOTICED THAT EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE WAS NOT HOLDING THE CAR AGAIN AFTER RECALL HAS BEEN COMPLETED BACK IN SEP 2017. NOW I ALWAYS LEAVE MY CAR PARKED ON THE 1ST GEAR (MANUAL TRANSMISSION). MY MECHANIC SAID THAT CALIPERS HAVE NEVER BEEN REPLACED AND THEY LOOK ORIGINAL ALSO HE SHOWED ME THAT BRAKE PADS ARE NOT BEING RELEASED AND GET STUCK REALLY HARD ON THE REAR AXIS. I FOUND THE INVOICE AND EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED IS "PARKING BRAKE LEVER PER RECALL ORDER". ALSO MAZDA DECLINED FIXING/REPLACING BRAKE PADS THAT HAVE BEEN WORN OUT WITHING 1 YEAR AFTER I REPLACED THEM. THEY SAID THAT THIS CAN'T BE COVERED SINCE THE JOB HAS NOT BEEN DONE BY MAZDA SERVICE AND THE PARTS WERE AFTERMARKET. I HAD TO CHANGE PADS ON THE READ AXIS 2 TIMES IN ALMOST 1 YEAR AND NOW I HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. ALSO I HEAR SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN I'M DRIVING. I CAN HEAR THAT THE PADS ARE NOT COMPLETELY RELEASED AND TOUCHING BRAKE DISKS. ALMOST A YEAR BEFORE THE RECALL MY CAR ROLLED DOWN THE SLOPE AND BLOCKED FAIRLY BUSY ROAD IN WASHINGTON DC. LUCKILY IT DIDN'T HIT ANY CAR OR PERSON.
THE FORWARD OBSTRUCTION WARNING HAS A PROBLEM! *TR
STEERING WHEEL LOCKS WHEN REVERSING TO THE RIGHT OR WHILE DRIVING ON A BUMPY CITY ROAD. IT HAPPENS WHILE GOING 45MPH. ATLANTA, GA
When you turn the car off the accessory stays on. In other words it doesn’t shut off all the way. That is a hazard because the battery will go dead in time. I looked on the internet and found a lot of complaints about this issue with these cars. The car has a defective shifter switch. Mazda won’t recall the part even though there have been many complaints. This is a defective part. If a part is defective they should recall the part. I don’t see why I should have to pay $400.00 to put a $50 part in my car that is defective. My car is available for inspection upon request.
2014 MAZDA 6 IGNITION SWITCH ISSUE. KEYLESS IGNITION SWITCH - CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. EVEN IF SHIFT IS IN PARK THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF BUT THE IGNITION STAYS ON. FOUND ON CARS.COM BUT MAZDA HAS NOT RECALLED.
ENGINE WILL STALL OUT WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN ENGINE STALLS OUT AND THEN I LOSE POWER STEERING AND BRAKE CONTROL AND WILL HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ENGINE WILL SPUTTER ON START UP WHICH SOUNDS LIKE A FAULTY MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR THIS IS A 2014 MAZDA MAZDA 6 WITH 57000 MILES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 MAZDA 6. WHEN THE PUSH TO START BUTTON WAS PRESSED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, BUT THE ELECTRICAL FEATURES CONTINUED TO OPERATE INDEPENDENTLY AND INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AN ORANGE LIGHT ON THE PUSH START BUTTON ALERTED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IN ACCESSORY MODE. IN ORDER TO FULLY TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WOULD RESTART THE VEHICLE, PLACE THE GEAR IN DRIVE, ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND PLACE THE VEHICLE BACK INTO PARK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS METHOD DID NOT ALWAYS WORK AND THAT HE WOULD SOMETIMES HAVE TO MAKE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS FOR THE VEHICLE TO SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA ID NUMBER: 10160553. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
DRIVER'S SEAT DOES NOT SLIDE BACK AND FORWARD AT ALL. IS STUCK IN THE BACK POSITION.
FOR SEEMINGLY NO REASON, THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART AND STALL WHILE DRIVING AND MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING SLOW, FAST AND WHILE TURNING. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, I NEED TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON AND INDICATES AN ABRUPT VOLTAGE CHANGE ISSUE, BUT SOON TURNS OFF AFTER A FEW POWER CYCLES. THIS STARTED TO HAPPEN MORE AND MORE OFTEN, AND MORE RECENTLY, I HAD THE CAR NOT ABLE TO START AS IF THE BATTERY DIED. ALL MY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, SUCH AS HEADLIGHTS AND HAZARD LIGHTS SHUT OFF AND AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS, THEY ALL TURNED BACK ON AND RUNNING NORMALLY. AT THIS POINT MY VEHICLE STARTED UP AGAIN JUST FINE. THIS HAS NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT A COUPLE TIMES AND NO MECHANIC HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE YET. ALTHOUGH, THIS ISSUE SEEMS ALARMINGLY CLOSE TO A RECENT RECALL THAT WAS ANNOUNCED FOR 2018-2019 MAZDAS RELATING TO A SOFTWARE ISSUE THAT CAUSES UNEXPECTED ENGINE STALLING RELATING TO THE FUEL-SAVING CYLINDER DEACTIVATION TECHNOLOGY. UNFORTUNATELY, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE CONTAINS THE SAME TECHNOLOGY, IT WASN'T INCLUDED ON THIS RECALL LIST.
IGNITION DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN PRESSING START / STOP BUTTON - PLEASE SEE ATTACHED MAZDA INVOICE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 MAZDA 6. WHILE STANDING OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DETECTED AN ABNORMAL FUEL ODOR. THE ODOR WAS NOT PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FUEL ECONOMY WAS DIMINISHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE INSPECTED; HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO PINPOINT THE SOURCE OF THE FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TAKEN TO ROMANO MAZDA (LOCATED AT 3120 ERIE BLVD E, SYRACUSE, NY 13214, (315) 446-9666) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL ODOR WAS DUE TO CORROSION BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP CONNECTION POINT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA BY THE MANUFACTURER. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WOULD BE NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
IT HAS HAPPENED A LOT. SOME OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS OF THE CAR SUCH AS RADIO, DISPLAY, ETC STAY ON WHEN IT IS TURNED OFF. I SPEND SEVERAL MINUTES MOVING BACK AND FORTH TO SHUT IT DOWN SUCCESSFULLY. THIS MIGHT CAUSE A SERIOUS PROBLEM LIKE BATTERY DRAIN ON A COLD DAY WHEN I AM IN A RUSH TO LEAVE THE CAR QUICKLY.
The park position sensor doesn't work. The car doesn't recognize that the car is in park and will not turn off. This is a known issue with the mazda 6 2014 and I do not know why there hasn't been a recall. I shouldn't have to pay to have this fixed. Started in 2019. Sometimes it takes 20 or more times to get the car to turn off by shifting in gear and back into park or starting and turning off the car. If you can't get the car turned off you cannot lock the doors and it will run the battery down. I just want this to be recalled so the dealership will repair. Thank you, this is a very frustrating situation. Literally my arm gets tired from slamming the gear shifter into park trying to get the car turned off.
INTERMITTENTLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTONS DO NOT PERFORM THEIR PROPER FUNCTION. WHEN EXPERIENCING THE ISSUE, ALL OF THE FOLLOWING OCCUR: 1) CANCEL BUTTON FUNCTIONS AS THE MINUS (DECELERATE) BUTTON, 2) THE MINUS BUTTON FUNCTIONS AS THE PLUS (ACCELERATE) BUTTON, 3) THE PLUS BUTTON DOESN'T WORK, AND 4) THE OFF BUTTON DISENGAGES THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT DOES NOT SHUTOFF THE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN POWER. THIS BEHAVIOR IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE WITH THE CANCEL BUTTON ACTING AS THE MINUS BUTTON, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL ACTIVATE WITH THE CANCEL BUTTON. IN ADDITION, HAVING THE MINUS BUTTON FUNCTION AS THE PLUS BUTTON COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF THE CAR BEHAVES IN THE OPPOSITE MANNER AS EXPECTED. THE ISSUE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING.
The contact owns a 2014 Mazda Mazda6. The contact stated while attempting to turn off the vehicle, it was not operating correctly. While the vehicle was parked, it was unable to shut down. The contact would shift back and forth to different gears for the vehicle to shut down correctly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.
FOW (FORWARD OBSTRUCTION WARNING) INSPECTION REQUIRED FLASHES ON DASH AS IF A LOOSE CONNECTION. ONLY FLASHES FOR ABOUT 3 SECONDS THEN GOES AWAY. I MANUALLY TURNED OFF FOW TO STOP THE FLASHING. BUT WILL TURN BACK ON ONCE I RESTART THE CAR. THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF/ON SWITCH SEEMS TO AFFECT THE WARNING FLASHES AS WELL. ONCE THE CAR WARMS UP, THINGS SEEM NORMAL. DURING DRIVING THIS EFFECTS THE CRUISE CONTROL AND SYSTEM OVERALL. HAPPENS EVERY TIME I START THE CAR AND START DRIVING
THERE IS A RED LIGHT INDICATOR SAYING THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT BALANCED. THE LIGHT ON THE RADIO PANEL IS ON EVEN AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN SWITCHED OFF.
A YEAR AGO I TOOK MY CAR FOR A RECALL THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE HANDBRAKE SOMEHOW RUSTING OUT WHERE IT SITS IN THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS. THEY INSPECTED THE CALIPERS AND TOLD ME THEY HAD TO ORDER PARTS. I NEVER RECEIVED A CALL. THE NEXT TIME I WENT BACK I ASKED ABOUT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS FIX. AFTER THE VISIT THEY RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS. THE VEHICLE IS A MANUAL AND IS TO THE POINT WHERE THE HAND BRAKE DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IT RUNS THE RISK OF ROLLING AWAY IF THE TRANSMISSION FAILS OR IT COMES OUT OF GEAR. IT IS CLEARLY STATED IN NHTSA #17V-393 AND I HAVE CALLED MAZDA CORPORATE WHO TOLD ME IT DOESN'T HAVE TO DO WITH THE CALIPERS ("YOUR MAZDA DEALER WILL CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE ACTUATOR SHAFTS INSIDE THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR BRAKE CALIPERS."). MAZDA REFERENCE NUMBER [XXX]. ALSO BECAUSE OF THE RUST THE HANDBRAKE IS LOSE SO IF YOU USE CRUISE CONTROL THE HANDLE CAN ACCIDENTAL PULL UP ENOUGH TO IGNITE THE HANDBRAKE LIGHT AND MAKE THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL WHICH IS SURPRISING AND COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO CRASH. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TT
VEHICLE STALLS OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED, 65 MPH. LIGHTS ALL COME ON ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. HAS BEEN DOING THIS MORE OFTEN NOW. MENTIONED IT TO BERGE MAZDA IN AZ WHEN TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
FOW INSPECTION LIGHT COMES ON WHEN GOING ABOVE 55 MPH. CRUISE [XXX] OFF AND BRAKES ARE PRESSED. PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
WITH NO CONSISTANCEY, THE CAR WOULD LOOSE POWER. AT TIMES, I THOUGHT THE CAR WOULD LOOSE FULL POWER, IN THE MIDDLE OF MY COMMUTE, I WOULD BE FORCED TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. MOST TIMES, THE CAR WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL CONDITIONS. WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIR, BYERS MAZDA OF COLUMBUS, TOLD ME IT NEEDED A TUNE-UP. ONCE AGAIN, THE CAR ALMOST STALLED OUT AND I MANAGED TO COAST INTO A PARKING SPACE. NOW THE SAME DEALERSHIP IS INFORMING ME FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CAR HAS AN I-LOOP SYSTEM AND THE BATTERY THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED FIVE YEARS, NOW LESS THAN THE 3 YEARS OLD, NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR OVER $500.00. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS MY MISTAKE, THE DEALERSHIP NEVER DISCLOSED THE I-LOOP SYSTEM AND THE PROBLEMS THAT GO WITH IT. THIS I-LOOP BATTERY WILL APPARENTLY LAST 2-3 YEARS ONLY AND IS VERY EXPENSIVE. I GUESS IT IS LEGAL FOR DEALERSHIP SALES REPS TO MISREPRESENT THE CAR MAINTENANCE BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHAT I PURCHASED. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM BYERS AUTO FOR ANY MODEL CAR!
TL* THE CONTACT OWED A 2014 MAZDA M6. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HER SON WAS DRIVING 55 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY AND CAUSED HIM TO DRIVE INTO A DITCH. THE CONTACT STATED SHE DOES NOT KNOW IF ANY WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER DISLOCATED HIS LEFT SHOULDER AND HIS RIGHT SHOULDER WAS SPRAINED, BOTH HANDS WERE SPRAINED, HIS LEFT LEG WAS SPRAINED AND HE EXPERIENCED BACK PAINS. THE DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY AN AMBULANCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER DEEMED THE VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
WHEN PLACING THE CAR IN PARK AND PRESSING THE PUSH START/STOP, THE CAR WILL NOT TURN COMPLETELY OFF. I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY PLACE THE GEAR IN ALL DNRP SEVERAL TIMES(5 OR MORE) BEFORE THE CAR REALIZES IT IS FULLY IN PARK AND ALL POWER TURNS COMPLETELY OFF. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS IN ORDER TO TURN THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY OFF. THE VEHICLE IS IN STOP POSITION AND IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT POWER ALL THE WAY OFF. LEAVING THE RADIO AND LIGHTS ON AND DISABLES THE ABILITY TO LOCK THE DOORS OR SET THE ALARM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 MAZDA 6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE ENGINE. ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE AND THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO D. DAHLE MAZDA OF MURRAY (LOCATED AT 4595 STATE ST, MURRAY, UT 84107, (801) 266-0033), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46,000. *TT UPDATED 10/10/18*JB
MY VEHICLE WILL NOT TURN OFF COMPLETELY OFF WHEN I PARK IT. THE ENGINE WILL STOP BUT ALL THE PANELS AND RADIO WILL CONTINUE TO GO. SOMETIMES I HAVE HAD TO TRY FOR OVER 20 MINUTES TO GET IT TO SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN. MY SPOUSE'S MAZDA AND DAUGHTER'S MAZDA ARE DOING THE SAME THING. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING.
WHEN PLACING THE CAR IN PARK AND PUSHING THE OFF/ON BUTTON AN ERROR MESSAGE WILL APPEAR SAYING THE VEHICLE MUST BE IN PARK WHEN IT IS AND SHOWS THAT ON THE DASHBOARD AND BY LOOKING AT THE GEAR SHIFTER. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT SO YOU CAN TURN OFF THE ELECTRICITY TO THE ACCESSORIES AND BE ABLE TO LOCK YOUR CAR IS TO START IT AGAIN, PUT IT INTO A DIFFERENT GEAR, AND TRY AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT WILL WORK ONE THE SECOND ATTEMPT BUT MOST TIMES IT TAKES 4 ATTEMPTS FOR ME TO GET IT TO RECOGNIZE THAT IT'S IN PARK.
