ENGINE STALLED GOING DOWNHILL BETWEEN 45-50 MPH. DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, NO RPMS, COULD NOT RESTART WHILE COASTING. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, PLACED INTO PARK AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY THE NEXT DAY. *AK

THE TRIBUTE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. WHEN I GOT IT RESTARTED, THE TRIP ODOMETER WAS RESET AND THE RADIO STATION PRESETS WERE LOST. I ALSO HAVE INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS STARTING THE CAR - IT MAKES A RATTLING SOUND AND THE BATTERY LIGHT GOES ON.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE STALLED, LOSING CONTROL OF THE STEERING AND THE BRAKES. I HAD TO COAST TO A STOP IN THE CENTER TURNING LANE. AFTER THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP, I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. IF THERE HAD NOT BEEN A TURNING LANE, I WOULD HAVE CRASHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IF I HAD BEEN PASSING A CAR AT THE TIME, I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME, BUT FROM RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT IS APPARENT THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE. I TOOK THE TRIBUTE TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT OCCURING WITH MY VEHICLE, BUT WITH THE 2.0 LITER ENGINE TRIBUTES. HE IMPLIED THAT I MIGHT HAVE HIT THE KEYS IN SOME WAY AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF. I GOT NO SATISFACTION FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, SO I HAD NO OPTION BUT TO VOICE MY CONCERN ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A DEEP HILL, ENGINE CUTS OFF.*AK VEHICLE ALSO FAILED ONCE ON FLAT SURFACE. *JG
AFTER THE VEHICLE SITS FOR A PERIOD OF 5-8 HOURS, IT WILL NOT START UP. IT TAKES SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO DO THIS ONLY IF IT IS PARKED OUTSIDE FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. WHEN IT IS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, IT DOES NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS STARTING UP, NO MATTER HOW LONG IT SITS. IF THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OUTDOORS FOR SEVERAL HOURS, IT WILL NOT START EASILY.*AK
BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARE DESIGNED TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED DRIVER CAN VERY EASILY HIT GAS PEDAL AS WELL. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
VEHICLE HAS STALLED 3 TIMES AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. DEALER HAS REPLACED SENSOR.*AK
THIS TYPE OF FAILURE COULD VERY EASILY LEAD TO A CRASH, THANKFULLY IT DID NOT IN THIS INSTANCE. HOWEVER, MY WIFE IS SOMEWHAT ANXIOUS BEHIND THE WHEEL AFTER THIS INCIDENT. THE DEALER DID ADJUST THE IDLER AND REPLACED A CONTROL MODULE, BUT THEY ALSO ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS PROBLEM IS APPARENTLY SOMEWHAT OF A MYSTERY FOR THE MANUFACTURER. PLEASE NOTIFY ME IF THERE IS A RECALL OR DEFINITE FIX FOUND FOR THIS PROBLEM.
ON THE ABOVE MENTIONED DATE, THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. NO SERIOUS INJURIES RESULTED ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FOR BRUISING IN THE CHEST AREA. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER WERE WEARING SEAT BELTS. EVEN THOUGH THE DAMAGE WAS $12,800, ENTIRELY TO THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. I CAN SUPPLY PHOTOS AND DAMAGE ESTIMATE REPORT IF NEEDED. I AM VERY HAPPY THAT NO SERIOUS INJURIES RESULTED, BUT I AM NOT COMFORTABLE THAT VTHIS SYSTEM IS SAFE OR OPERABLE. IF THE DAMAGE ALMOST RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS, ALL IN THE FRONT END, AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, I AM NOT SURE THAT THEY ARE ON THE VEHICLE, OR ARE OPERABLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 20MPH, T-BONED ANOTHER VEHICLE AND AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FRONTAL IMPACT, DRIVER INJURED. *AK *YD
WHEN TRAVELING AT 30-35 MPH VEHICLE , WITH OUT ANY NOTICE, WILL SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. CONSUMER WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TURN OR DO ANYTHING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED A PART IN VEHICLE, BUT VEHICLE WAS STILL STALLING.*AK
WATER BUILDUP IN RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) HEADLIGHT WITH NO APPARANT CRACKS. *AK
VEHICLE WOULD STALL ONLY WHEN DRIVING DOWN HILLS. VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER AND PROBLEM REOCCURRING. *AK THE VEHICLE STALLED THREE TIMES BEFORE CONSUMER TOOK TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED CONSUMER THAT ONCE THE COMPUTER WAS REINSTALLED OR REPROGRAMMED IT STUCK. NO ONE NEEDING THIS REPAIR HAS BEEN BACK WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE VEHICLE STALLED, THIS TIME ON A FLAT ROAD. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE BACK AND WAS INFORMED MAZDA AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULD BE WORKING ON A RESOLUTION. THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE PROBLEM IS STILL REOCCURRING. *JG
CONSUMER STATES THE TRANSMISSION ON VEHICLE CONSTANTLY STALLS AND JUMPS IN/OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING. TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED 2X AND IS CURRENTLY W/DLR FOR 3RD REPLACEMENT. MR
STEERING WHEEL IS VERY HARD TO TURN, AND BRAKE PEDAL GETS STUCK. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO ENTER HIGHWAY, AND THEN PRESSING ACCELERATER AND VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN, INSTEAD OF SPEEDING UP. IT IS LIKE YOUR PUTTING ON THE BRAKES. DRIVER FEELS THIS CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THREE TIMES THE CAR HAS LOST POWER, INCLUDING STEERING AND BRAKES.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON A CLEAN, SMOOTH HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH WITH ONE DRIVER AND UNLOADED, REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE EXPERIENCED BLOW OUT IN MIDDLE OF SIDEWALL. THE TIRE WAS SHOWN TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER INITIALLY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRE, CLAIMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A ROAD HAZARD, THAT TIRES DON'T JUST EXPLODE. THE DEALER ULTIMATELY REPLACED THE TIRE BUT DID NOT ADMIT TO ANY TIRE DEFECT. *AK (DOT NUMBER: W208 AWM TIRESIZE: P235/70R16)
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN WHILE TRAVELING 15MPH STEERING LOCKED UP, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOOSE CONTROL AND ROLLOVER. *AKTHERE WERE NO INJURIES AND NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS RELEASED FROM THE BODY SHOP, THE CONSUMER DROVE ABOUT 20 MILES WHEN AN ENGINE ROD FAILED, THE MECHANIC BELIEVES THAT THIS MAY HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF THE ORIGINAL ACCIDENT. *NLM
WAS GOING DOWN A SLIGHT HILL AT ABOUT 40-45 MPH WHEN I NOTICED THE STEERING BECAME STIFF. DISCOVERED THE ENGINE HAD QUIT. BRAKED (WITH SOME DIFFICULTY) AND PULLED OVER TO A STOP. SHIFTED INTO PARK AND RESTARTED. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN, POSSIBLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN. I NOTE THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS MADE TO NHTSA ABOUT STALLING PROBLEMS IN THE 2001 TRIBUTE. I HAVE NOT YET NOTIFIED THE DEALER BUT WILL DO SO NEXT WEEK.*AK
STALLING ISSUE WHILE GOING DOWNHILL. *AK
CHECK ENGINE CAME ON. CHECKED EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO OWNERS MANUAL, INCLUDING MAKING SURE GAS TOP WAS ON TIGHT. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY FOUND A LEAKING VENT LINE ON TANK. THEY SAID MAZDA TOLD THEM TO CAP IT OFF AS THERE WASN'T A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DIES AT 40-45 MPH WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER SITTING FOR SEVERAL HOURS. BRAKES AND STEERING FAILED AND IT WAS HARD TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. *YH
ENGINE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH. LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE STOPPED AND ENGINE RESTARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE.*AK
I BOUGHT MY TRIBUTE IN AUGUST AND JUST HAD THE FIRST SERVICE DONE RECENTLY SO WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2001, I WAS NOT EXPECTING ANY PROBLEM. I WAS GOING ABOUT 45 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I COULDN'T STEER THE CAR. THE POWER STEERING HAD CEASED AND I BELIEVE THE BRAKES ALSO. I VEERED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THE CAR. I PROCEEDED TO FIND A PHONE TO CALL FOR ASSISTANCE AND WHEN I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO RIDGEFIELD MAZDA I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER. WE HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE AND HE WAS ALMOST CERTAIN HE KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. HE TOLD ME MAZDA HAD GOTTEN SEVERAL TRIBUTES COME IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH IS THE IGNITION FAILS AND EVERYTHING GOES OUT LIKE THE STEERING ETC. JUST WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. OBVIOUSLY, MAZDA KNEW OF THE PROBLEM, AND I QUESTIONED HOW THEY COULD NOT NOTIFY OTHER DRIVERS OF THIS MALFUNCTION. HE TOLD ME IT WASN'T CONSIDERED A RECALL AS OF YET EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD SEVERAL CUSTOMERS COME IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THE TRIBUTE IS A NEW VEHICLE AND I UNDERSTAND THERE MAY STILL BE KINKS/BUGS TO WORK OUT WITH A NEW VEHICLE BUT THIS ISN'T A MINOR PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE THIS CHECKED INTO AND IF POSSIBLE, MAKE IT A RECALL SO THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO OTHER DRIVERS. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR TO A SAFE LOCATION, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. DURING BRAKING WHEN SPEED BECAME SLOWER THAN 10 M/H ENGINE RPM GO TO 0 WHICH IS LEADING TO TURNING ENGING OFF. HAPPENED 2 TIMES WITH ME. NOT SURE IF IT IS IGNITION SYSTEM OR TRANSMISSION TO RESTART A CAR YOU NEED TO SWITCH GEAR TO PARKING AND TURN KEY ALL THE WAY BACK. I DO BELEIVE THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH ON INTERSECTION.*AK
VEHICLE HAD A NO-START CONDITION 4 TIMES, AND A NEAR-STALLING CONDITION ONE TIME WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND THE CAR BACKFIRING AND MISFIRING. ALL FIVE OCCURRENCES WERE RELATED TO A FAULTY WIRE/PIN IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHICH KEPT BECOMING LOOSE OR DISCONNECTED. THE FIRST THREE TIME THE VEHICLE LEFT ME STRANDED, THE 4TH TIME IT DIED IN THE DEALERS OWN PARKING LOT AFTER AN ALLEGED REPAIR. VEHICLE OFFICIALLY BECAME A LEMON AFTER THE 5TH BREAKDOWN. ALL INCIDENTS OCCURRED BETWEEN 6-16 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. AFTER 25 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP AND MUCH HASSLE AND LEGAL INVOLVEMENT, I RECEIVED A SETTLEMENT AND A BUY-BACK FROM MAZDA. *JB
ENGINE FAILED WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MILES PER HOUR DOWN A CURVED INCLINE. WAS ABLE TO GET VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP ALONG SIDE OF ROAD. TURNED IGNITION TO OFF AND TRIED TO RESTART VEHICLE. WOULD NOT START. TURNED IGNITION TO OFF AGAIN AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS. VEHICLE RESTARTED ON SECOND ATTEMPT.*AK
RIGHT DOOR IS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE DOOR IS NOT PROPERLY BOLTED ONTO FRAME OF VEHICLE. DOOR IS ABLE TO MOVE AROUND, AND WHEN OPENING DOOR IT WILL MAKE NOISE. ALSO, DOOR HINGE BOLT IS HALFWAY ON. CONTACTED DEALER AND DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *YH
WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED ENGINE CUTS OFF, CAUSING STEERING AND BRAKES TO LOCK UP. DRIVER HAS TO LET VEHICLE SIT A FEW MOMENTS AND THEN RESTART THE IGNITION. DEALER HAS SEEN VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND CANT FIX IT. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT AUTOMATIC WINDOWS MALFUNCTIONED. COOLANT LIGHT CAMES ON AND DEALER DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS LEAK IN COOLANT BOTTLE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAMES ON DUE TO EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE FAILURE. *YH
ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING. YOU DO NOT REALIZE IT HAS OCCURRED UNTIL YOU NOTICE YOUR POWER STEERING HAS BECOME STIFF OR YOU GO TO ACCELERATE. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED THREE TIMES FIRST TIME 10/2001, SECOND 11/2001 THIRD 5/2002. EACH TIME IT OCCURRED WITHIN FIRST 30-45 MINUTES OF DRIVING AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT IN USE.*AK

THE TRUCK STALLED (COMPLETE ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN) WHILE DRIVING, NO STEERING AND NO BRAKES, NARROWLY MISSING ANOTHER TRUCK COMING TOWARDS ME. *AK
CAR STALLED WITH NO WARNING, LEAVING DRIVER WITH NO BRAKES OR STEERING. TWO TIMES WAS WHILE SLOWING DOWN,ONCE WHILE ACCELERATING. DEALERSHIP HAS NOTIFIED MAZDA, BUT INSISTS I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL PROBLEM IS FOUND.*AK
AFTER PARKING VEHICLE, HEARD LOUD CRASH. LOOK ON GROUND AND FOUND TENSION PULLEY AND SPRING FELL OFF VEHICLE. WHEN STARTED, VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. CONTACTED DEALER AND HAD TOWED. WAITING FOR PARTS.. *AK
WHILE SLOWING TO PROCEED THROUGH YIELD-SIGN INTERSECTION, VEHICLE STALLED WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROX. 5 MPH (RIGHT-HAND TURN). POWER STEERING, ETC. WAS LOST...PLACED VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED...AS THOUGH ONE MIGHT STALL/RESTART A MANUAL TRANS. VEHICLE (THIS VEHICLE IS AUTO TRANS). ON ONE OTHER SIMILAR OCCASION, VEHICLE 'ALMOST' STALLED IN THE SAME FASHION WHILE MANEUVERING THROUGH SERVICE STATION ISLANDS (3-5 MPH)...THIS TIME DURING A LEFT-HAND TURN. VEHICLE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER STREERING AND 'ALMOST' STALL BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED. *AK
MY MAZDA TRIBUTE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH. ROAD WAS FLAT AND WEATHER WAS CLEAR. THIS HAPPENED OUT OF THE BLUE AND NO FIX COULD BE FOUND AS MAZDA WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. MY INFANT DAUGHTER WAS WITH ME AND I AM SCARED OF THIS VEHICLE NOW. I FEEL THAT OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE WARNED AND I WISH I COULD GET MY MONEY BACK AND GET OUT OF THIS UNSAFE AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING VEHICLE.*AK

I AM REPORTING WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE A NEW SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN WITH 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTES. THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL, CAUSING SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER BRAKES/STEERING, AND I BARELY AVOIDED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS I APPROACHED THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL. I LEARNED FROM DEALER THAT I AM THE 5TH CUSTOMER AT THEIR DEALERSHIP ALONE TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM (DOWNHILL STALL) AND THAT MAZDA HAS NO FIX YET BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND MAZDA HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. I BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIP IS DOING EVERYTHING WITHIN THEIR POWER. I AM REQUESTING THAT THE GOVERNMENT GET INVOLVED AND FORCE MAZDA HEADQUARTERS TO STEP UP THEIR INVESTIGATION AND ISSUE A WARNING TO CONSUMERS BEFORE PEOPLE DIE.*AK
VEHICLE STALLS AT SLOW SPEEDS, USUALLY BELOW 40 MPH. DEALER REPLACED EGR SENSOR. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT REPLACING THE EGR SENSOR DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*JB
WHILE DRIVING, SHIFT CABLE CAME LOOSE FROM BACK OF THE SHIFT LEVER. UNABLE TO CHANGE GEARS.*AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT AND WOULD NOT RE-START. *YH
AT 15,860 (8/31/2001) THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ON MY 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE TRANSMISSION IS STILL UNSTABLE AND HESITATES AND MAKES NOISE. I'M AT 58,000 MILES AND OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CAR WAS RETURNED ONCE TO THE DEALER AND WAS NOT FIXED. IF I TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY WILL CHARGE TO LOOK AT. I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS - INCLUDING A DEFECTIVE MASTER CYLINDER, HEADLAMP AND OTHER ISSUES AND RECALLS. THIS IS THE WORST AUTOMOBILE I HAVE EVER PURCHASED AND I THINK MAZDA AND IT'S DEALERSHIPS NO THIS. I'M VERY PERSISTANT INDIVIDUAL AND I FEEL THE AVERAGE PERSON WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR SOME OF THE REPAIRS I HAD DONE TO MY MAZDA TRIBUTE.
ON OCTOBER 12, 2001, I WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 95 THROUGH NORTH CAROLINA IN MY MAZADA TRIBUTE 2001. THIS WAS A SUNNY DAY SO THE ROAD WAS DRY AND I WAS TRAVELING 70 MPH WITH CRUISE CONTROL. I WAS APPROACHING THE EXITS FOR THE ROCKY MOUNT AREA WHEN MY ENTIRE CAR STARTED SHAKING FURIOUSLY. THEN THE WHOLE LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR SEEMED TO SUDDENLY DROP. I IMMEADIATELY PULLED OVER. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO TAKE A LOOK, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT JUST A FLAT, BUT THAT THE ENTIRE TREAD HAD SEPERATED FROM THE SIDEWALLS. I TOOK THE TIRE INTO A FIRESTONE DEALER WHERE THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT TIRES ALWAYS RESPOND THIS WAY WHEN THEY GO FLAT AND CHARGED ME FOR A NEW TIRE. THEY DID NOT SEEM CONCERNED AT ALL. AFTER THEY HAD FINISHED REPLACING THE TIRE, I ASKED FOR THE ORIGINAL TIRE WHICH THEY TOLD ME WAS ALREADY DESTROYED AND THAT I COULD NOT HAVE IT BACK. THIS WAS A WILDERNESS HT P235/70R16 BUT WHEN FIRESTONE REPLACED IT THEY USED A WILDERNESS HT II.*AK (TIRESIZE: P235/70R16)
THE CAR HAS STALLED 5 TIMES DURING OPERATION SINCE WE PURCHASED IT, LAST TIME ON OCTOBER 11, 2001. IT HAS STALLED ON THE ROAD AND IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTIONS. THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS COME ON, POWER STEERING AND BRAKING DISAPPEARS, AND WE HAVE TO TURN THE KEY AND ENGAGE THE STARTER. IT DOES START RIGHT BACK UP AGAIN. IT IS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 2ND TIME, BUT THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. MAZDA HAS A CASE OPEN AND WE HAVE REPORTED CONDITIONS SURROUNDING THE INCIDENTS TWICE (TEMPERATURE, AMOUNT OF FUEL, ROAD CONDITIONS, ETC.).*AK
I PURCHASED THE CAR ON 8/12/01 FROM BROWN'S MAZDA IN ALEXANDRIA, VA. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 3000 MILES ON IT AND HAS STALLED TWICE WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR STALLS ON A DECLINE BETWEEN 30-40 MPH. WHEN THE CAR STALLS, THE STEREO IS STILL ON, BUT THE ENGINE GOES OUT AND THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES GO OUT, WHICH MAKES THE CAR HARD TO DRIVE. TO FIX THIS, YOU HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTART THE ENGINE (ALL WHILE YOU ARE MOVING). I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, THEY HAVE SAID THAT THE MAJORITY OF TRIBUTE'S AND FORD ESCAPE'S HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND THEY DO NOT HAVE A FIX FOR THE CAR. ORIGINALLY, THEY DID NOT EVEN WANT ME TO BRING THE CAR IN BECAUSE THEY SAID THERE'S NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNTIL MAZDA COMES UP WITH A "FIX". I CALLED THE MAZDA USA HOTLINE AND THEY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORMED THEM THEY HAVE TO LOOK AT THE CAR. THE CAR IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP (TO BE PICKED UP TODAY), BUT WHEN DROPPING THE CAR OFF, THEY INFORMED ME AGAIN THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR IN. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD ALSO NOT COMMENT ON IF THEY THOUGHT THIS WAS A "SAFETY" ISSUE AND SAID THAT THEY ARE WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEIR "REPRESENTATIVE". I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS, DOES THIS QUALIFY AS A LEMON SINCE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE? AM I ENTITLED TO MY MONEY BACK (I KNOW THE DEALER WILL NOT GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK BECAUSE THEY SAY IT IS A MAZDA ISSUE)?*AK
TRAVELLING ON MAJOR HIGHWAY AT THE HEIGHT OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFICE WHEN VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. COULD NOT RESTART FOR 10-15 MINUTES. DEALER COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, SO THEY CALLED IN A "SPECIAL" TECHNICIAN FROM MAZDA WHO CLAIMED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE PCM OR "COMPUTER" OF THE VEHICLE, THIS PART WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN 4 DAYS LATER. FUNNY HOW THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM YET MAZDA CLAIMS TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM! DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY WILL ADMIT THAT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TRIBUTES IS DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY DEADLY?
VEHICLE STOPPED & COULD NOT ACCELERATE. DASH PANEL LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. I WAS GOING SLIGHTLY DOWNHILL & ALSO CAR WOULD NOT BRAKE, SO HAD TO PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHEN I MANAGED TO PULL TO THE RIGHT/SIDE IN ORDER TO STOP VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY DIE, IT HAPPENS RIGHT IN MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC OR ON HIGHWAY, IN ONE SITUATION THERE WAS ONLY 2 WAYS TO GO, AND THAT WAS INTO A DITCH OR BE HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC, LUCKILY ANOTHER DRIVER SAW CONSUMER COMING AND CLEARED THE WAY.*AK CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE CAN NOT BE RESTARTD.*SLC
TOTAL SYSTEM FAILURE ENGINE DIED AND ALL SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN. LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES ON ONRAMP. LOSS OF CONTROL WAS VERY SCARY ON THE RAMP. LUCKILY NOT ON THE INTERSTATE AT THE TIME. *AK *ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN DURING NORMAL OPERATION ON NOVEMBER 2, 2001 WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 40 MPH.
