TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE I. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AFTER A STOP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER LOOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HE CRASHED INTO A TREE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE DRIVER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED STERNUM, BRUISES AND CONTUSIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FIRE BEGAN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
I HAVE A KARR CAR ALARM, DEALER INSTALLED PRIOR TO PURCHASE. RECENTLY, WHILE THE CAR LOCKED IN THE DRIVE WAY, THE ALARM WENT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. THEN WHILE DRIVING THE DOOR AJAR ALARM WENT OFF CONSTANTLY. WENT TO KARR AND HAD A NEW ALARM SYSTEM PUT IN. STILL HAPPENS. WENT TO MAZDA AND THEY FOUND THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY WAS DEFECTIVE. HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY FIXED IT. 11 DAYS LATER THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN IN THE DRIVE WAY WHILE SITTING THERE LOCKED. CALLED MAZDA AGAIN AND AM SCHEDULED TO BRING THE CAR IN TO CHECK IT OUT AGAIN. KARR MECHANIC STATED THAT HE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH FORD ESCAPE AND MAZDA TRIBUTE CUSTOMERS ALL DUE TO THE DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLIES IN THE FACT THAT THE ELECTRICAL MECHANISM SEEMS TO BE REVERSE LOGIC THAN OTHER CARS. THIS IS BECOMING BOTH ANNOYING AND FRUSTRATING. IN THE MEAN TIME I CANNOT LOCK THE CAR IN THE DRIVE WAY OR WHEN I AM AT STORES - NO SECURITY OR THEFT-CONTROL. *TR
I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2004. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKES LOSING PRESSURE SINCE I PURCHASED MY CAR BUT THE DEALERSHIP ALWAYS TOLD ME THEY WERE FINE. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD TO PUSH MY BRAKES TO THE FLOOR TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES WHEN AT A RED LIGHT I'D SIT AND PUMP AIR INTO THE BRAKES SO THEY WOULD STOP PROPERLY. YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND A LADY STOPPED AHEAD OF ME BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT STOP. I HAD ADEQUATE DISTANCE TO STOP. I HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND IT FELT AS IF THE TIRES WERE STUTTERING/HOPPING IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP. I PRESSED SO HARD THAT MY WHOLE LEG WAS IN A CRAMP. I HIT THE CAR AHEAD OF ME DAMAGING THE BUMPER. I DID NOT SLIDE, THE TIRES ARE SEMI-NEW AND IN GREAT CONDITION. ALSO, MY ROTORS FAILED A FEW YEARS AGO. HAD TO HAVE THEM REPLACED ALL ROUND AS WELL AS ANOTHER PART OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE GRINDING NOISE AND THE AIR HISSING FROM THE BRAKES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR A LONG TIME AND I'VE ASKED MAZDA ABOUT RECALLS AND THEIR HAVEN'T BEEN ANY. WITH THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET I DON'T FEEL IT IS RIGHT FOR THE CONSUMERS TO HAVE TO CONTINUE PAYING FINANCIALLY, THROUGH INSURANCE OR PERSONAL INJURY FOR THE MANUFACTURER'S DEFAULT. *JS
NO CRASH BUT THE UNDERSIDE IS RUSTED AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS IT DOES NOT SUPPORT THE SHOCKS THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED I UNDERSTAND MAZDA RECALLED A LOT OF THESE CARS FROM 2001-2004 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM MY CAR HAS NEW TIRES NEW BRAKES AND NEW SPARK PLUS AND PISTONS ONLY 80,000 MILES AND RUNS GOOD BUT IT IS RUSTED MY DAUGHTER HAS A HONDA WITH 123,000 MILES AND IT RUNS PERFECT WITH NO RUST THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME THAT THE MAZDA IS RUSTED. I WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO BUY A MAZDA BECAUSE THEY DO NOT LAST VERY LONG.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO INSPECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,424.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY REMOVING THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V357000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE 1. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING SLOWLY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKE AND DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SIMULTANEOUSLY IN ORDER FOR THE PEDAL TO RELEASE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
THE LOWER ANCHOR STRAP ON MY SON'S SUNSHINE KIDS RADIAN XTSL SPONTANEOUSLY LOOSENED WITH NO PRESSURE ON THE RELEASE BUTTON OR LOCKING DEVICE. AS A CPST, I CHECK THE INSTALLATION DAILY, SO I KNOW THIS HAD BEEN A ROCK SOLID INSTALLATION AND THE LOCKING DEVICE WAS PROPERLY ALIGNED ON THE SHELL OF THE SEAT (NOT IN OR ON THE EDGE OF THE BELTPATH), PRIOR TO THE STRAP SPONTANEOUSLY LOOSENING. SUPER LATCH STRAP CONTINUALLY LOOSENS. SEAT HAS BEEN INSTALLED BY CPST AND WHEN BARELY TOUCHED, THE ADJUSTER BUCKLE LOOSED TO A VERY DANGEROUS POINT. SEAT BECAME EXTREMELY MOBILE WHILE LATCH WAS STILL CONNECTED. I HAVE TWO RADIAN XTSL SEATS. ONE CHILD IS BARELY 20LBS, AND THE OTHER IS 35LBS. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE PEDAL BUT HAD NO SUCCESS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V357000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE S. CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED TO DIE AT INTERSECTIONS WHEN SHE SLOWED DOWN OR STOPPED. MAZDA SERVICE HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE TORQUE CONVERTER STAYING IN LOCK UP MODE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO STALL WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING AT INTERSECTIONS. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK VENT PIPE COMPLETELY FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD SIGNIFICANT CONCERN OF A POTENTIAL FIRE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
MY 2005 TRIBUTE HAS HAD GAS PEDAL PROBLEMS IN THE PAST. IT WAS SERVICED FOR THIS IN 2008 HOWEVER WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD THE GAS PEDAL IS STILL STIFF AND I HAVE TO STOMP ON IT TO GET IT TO GO. YESTERDAY HOWEVER WAS A DIFFERENT STORY. I HEADED TO WORK WITH MY BABY IN THE CAR. ABOUT 3 MILES DOWN THE ROAD ON A HWY GOING 60 MPH I LET OFF THE GAS TO SLOW DOWN AND MY CAR DID NOT SLOW! I STOMPED THE BREAK AND IT HARDLY MADE A DIFFERENCE. I WENT FOR 3 OR 4 MILES NOT PRESSING THE GAS AND CONTINUED TO FLY DOWN THE ROAD AT 60 MPH! I TRIED TO KICK THE GAS AND IT DIDN'T HELP. I FINALLY TOOK BOTH OF MY FEET AND STOOD ON THE BREAK WHILE TRYING NOT TO GET REAR ENDED AND PULLED OFF ON THE EXIT RAMP STILL GOING 15-20 MPH! I HAD TO TURN THE KEY OFF TO GET MY CAR TO STOP! MY HUSBAND WAS NEAR BY AND SAID THAT MY CAR WAS IDLING AT 3RPMS! IF THIS HAD HAPPENED IN DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES....I DON'T EVEN WANT TO THINK ABOUT THAT! I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE ACCELERATOR WILL BE DEPRESSED AND THE CAR DOESN'T MOVE. THEN IT WILL SUDDENLY LUNGE FORWARD. OTHER TIMES, I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND THERE IS A JERK AS THE CAR ONCE AGAIN LUNGES FORWARD. YESTERDAY WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED MOMENTARILY. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN LISTED ON THE INTERNET MANY TIMES BUT IT SEEMS THAT SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT OR DIE BEFORE THERE IS A RECALL. IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE A NEW PROBLEM AS THEY RECALLED EARLIER MODELS THAN 2005 FOR WHAT LOOKS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND SOMETIMES THERE ARE DAYS BETWEEN EPISODES. UP UNTIL THIS OCCURRENCE, THE TRIBUTE HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL CAR. THIS, HOWEVER, BRINGS MEMORIES OF TOYOTA. PLEASE INVESTIGATE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
WE PURCHASED A NEW 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. AT 90K MILES, THE BRAKE BOOSTER STARTED LEAKING AIR CAUSING EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCE REQUIRING MORE DRIVER FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP. THE BRAKE BOOSTER WAS REPLACED AT DEALER WITH OEM PART, AND NOW AT 150K MILES, IT HAS BEGUN LEAKING AIR AGAIN. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE AND ARE HAVING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER AGAIN. THIS TIME WE HAVE OPTED TO GO WITH A HIGH PERFORMANCE BRAKE BOOSTER. *TR

MY ACCELERATOR GETS STUCK FREQUENTLY. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND THERE IS NO WAY THIS COULD BE MY FAULT. IT HAS GOTTEN STUCK ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2008. ON A SEPARATE NOTE: MY BRAKE BOOSTER FAILED (TWICE) IN TWO YEARS. *TR
THE 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE FREEZES THE ACCELERATOR OFTEN, ESPECIALLY IN WINTER. THE PEDAL FREEZES WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND WHEN THE LEG FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS REMOVED AND WANTS TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE AGAIN. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS IN THE PAST WHERE MY GAS PEDAL GETS STUCK. IT'S ALMOST AS IF THERE IS SOMETHING LODGED BENEATH THE PEDAL, BUT THE FLOOR AREA IS CLEAR AND FREE FROM ANY CLUTTER. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ONCE THE WEATHER CHANGES; AS SOON AS WINTER SEASON STARTS IS WHEN I HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAD IT TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A CARBON BUILD-UP THAT NEEDED TO BE CLEANED OUT. THE MECHANIC STATED THE CARBON BUILD-UP WAS NOT ALLOWING THE THROTTLE PLATE/FLAP TO OPEN AND CLOSE LIKE IT SHOULD WHICH WAS CAUSING THE GAS PEDAL TO STICK. THIS CAN LEAD TO A VERY DANGEROUS OR LIFE-THREATENING CAR ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS AND IS NOW STARTING UP AGAIN. THE ONLY OTHER COMPLAINT OTHER THAN THIS IS THAT THE VEHICLE MAKES FOR A VERY NOISY RIDE ON THE HIGHWAY; I HEAR ALL OUTSIDE NOISES SUCH AS THE WIND AND BUMPS ON THE ROAD. *TR
THE GAS PEDAL STICKS WHILE DRIVING, IT LOOSENS UP AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, (PUTTING THE ENTIRE FORCE OF MY BODY AGAINST PEDAL WILL NOT FREE IT UP) . THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, BUT HAS BEEN HAPPENING MUCH MORE OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. ALSO LAST WINTER WHEN IT WAS COLD AT NIGHT AS I PULLED FROM MY PARKING SPOT AT WORK THE ENGINE SEEMED TO REV SUDDENLY AS I PULLED AWAY. THIS WOULD ONLY HAPPEN OCCASIONALLY AND I FIGURED IT WAS DUE TO THE COLD WEATHER BUT I AM NOT SO SURE NOW. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. THE DEALER CHARGES THEM SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I SEE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2002-2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE FOR THE ACCELERATOR CABLE RECALL 2704L. IS IT POSSIBLE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. *TR
2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE GAS PEDAL STICKING. UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AT TIMES. ALMOST CAUSE A MAJOR TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WITH 145000 MILES. DURING THE SUMMER, I FOLDED THE REAR SEATS DOWN IN THE STOWED POSITION TO UTILIZE THE CARGO SPACE TO GO ON VACATION. WHEN I UNSTOWED THE SEATS TO UTILIZE THEM FOR PASSENGER USE, I DISCOVERED THE RIGHT REAR SEAT CUSHION HAD THE FABRIC BURNED OFF THE FACE OF THE SEAT. ALSO, THE FLOOR MAT WAS SEVERELY BURNED AND MELTED INTO THE CARPET. THIS AREA IS JUST ABOVE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR ALMOST CAUGHT ON FIRE. I CONTACTED MZDA AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THEY PUT MY VEHICLE AND AN ANALYZER AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. I NEVER HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE, BUT A SAFETY ISSUE! THEY JUST BLEW ME OFF AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. I HAVE PHOTO'S OF THE DAMAGE. I CANNOT EVEN PULL THE BACK FLOOR MAT UP DUE TO IT BEING MELTED INTO THE CARPET. IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW OLD THE CAR IS, THE INTERIOR IS NOT SUPPOSE TO CATCH FIRE THROUGH NORMAL USE FOR ANY REASON. THERE IS DEFINITELY A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS DESIGN. VEHICLE: 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE ALL WHEEL DRIVE WITH 36,937 MILES - EQUIPPED WITH 16 INCH ALLOY WHEELS. PROBLEM: TWO OF THE FOUR WHEEL RIMS ARE CRACKING AT THE LUG NUT HOLES (RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE), THE LEFT SIDE WHEELS HAVE YET TO BE INSPECTED. WHEN A ROUTINE TIRE ROTATION WAS PERFORMED, THE WHEELS WERE REINSTALLED AND TORQUED (USING A CLICK TYPE TORQUE WRENCH) TO THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATION OF 100 FT/LBS. AS TORQUE WAS APPLIED, THE LUG NUTS FELT AS THOUGH THEY WERE STRIPPED, AND SOME LUG NUTS ACTUALLY PULLED THEMSELVES FURTHER INTO THE RIM THAN THE OTHERS AS TIGHTENING OCCURRED. SUBSEQUENT REMOVAL OF THE RIGHT SIDE WHEELS REVEALED DEFORMED LUG NUTS, AND CRACKS ON BOTH RIMS AT THE LUG NUT HOLES, FROM 1/4 LONG, DESCRIBED BY THE EXAMINING TECHNICIAN AS MAKING THE VEHICLE UNSAFE. THE WHEELS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE HAVE YET TO BE INSPECTED. MAZDA USA NOTIFIED, THEY WILL TOW THE VEHICLE TO A MAZDA DEALER FOR AN EVALUATION. I HAVE WRITTEN A LETTER TO MAZDA USA OUTLINING THE PROBLEM IN MORE DETAIL, COPY WILL BE SENT TO NHTSA/ODI UNDER SEPARATE COVER. UPDATED 05/06/10.*JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATE SPEEDS OF 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ABNORMAL JERKING AND THE ENGINE WOULD IDLE VERY LOW, ALMOST TO A STOP. THE DEALER ADVISED RESTARTING THE ENGINE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE COMPUTER, COIL SPRINGS AND PERFORMED A TUNE-UP. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION AFTER REPAIRS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE CONTACT ALMOST DROVE ONTO A CURB. SHE WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN; HOWEVER, WHEN SHE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, IT FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE DRIVER PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS THEN ABLE TO ENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MORE THAN 20 TIMES. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHEN SHE WAS DRIVING 35 MPH. WHEN SHE TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL IT DIDN'T CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,020.

AFTER SHE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD,SHE WAS ABLE TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPAIRED AT AN EXPENSE OF $ 325.00 DOLLARS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON FAILURE FOR HER MODEL TYPE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78000.
THE GAS PEDAL WONT DEPRESS IN COLD WEATHER. GENERALLY ANY TEMPERATURE CLOSE TO OR BELOW FREEZING. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2009. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MAZDA DEALER BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEIR REMEDY WAS TO GREASE AND LUBRICATE THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY. THIS DID NOT REMEDY THE SITUATION AND THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CONTINUOUS EVERY WINTER. I FIND THAT IF I WARM THE CAR UP SUFFICIENTLY AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, THE PEDAL DOES NOT STICK. BUT THIS EVENING, NOVEMBER 17, 2012, IT BECAME STUCK WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR WAS WARM. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND NOT GET REAR ENDED FOR SUDDENLY SLOWING DOWN AND NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE. HOPING FOR A RECALL VERY SOON. *TR
AFTER READING OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, I FELT COMPELLED TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH THE GAS PEDAL. IT SEEMS MAZDA HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR MANY YEARS, YET NO RECALL. THE GAS PEDAL STICKS IN WEATHER COLDER THAN 50 DEGREES. FOR AN ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLE (SUV) WHICH IS MADE TO GO OFF-ROAD AND IN MOUNTAINS, THIS IS A PRETTY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I CONFERRED WITH MY LOCAL MAZDA DEALER, THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $400 FOR PARTS AND LABOR TO "REPLACE" A FAULTY MECHANISM. I FEEL I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING WHICH IS INHERENT WITH THESE TRIBUTE VEHICLES AND FOR WHICH MAZDA IS FULLY AWARE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. SHE APPLIED PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BETWEEN 10-15 MPH TO LEAVE A STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, UNTIL SHE EXERTED A GREAT AMOUNT OF FORCE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS. WE TOOK TO THE MAZDA DEALER (5900 NORTH OAK TRAFFICWAY, KANSAS CITY, MO 64118) IN 2009 BECAUSE THE CAR DID NOT START. THEY CHANGED THE STARTER MOTOR AND STILL IT DID NOT WORK THEN THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND IT DID NOT WORK AGAIN THEM THEY SAID IT IS THE ALTERNATOR THIS ALL HAPPENED JUST WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO AND HAD TO SPEND LOT OF MONEY. THEN AGAIN WE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY FOUR TIMES WITH IN 2009 TO 2014. RIGHT NOW WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND AN AUTO DEALER IS SAYING IT IS THE ALTERNATOR. IN AUGUST 2004, I PURCHASED A 2005 BRAND NEW MAZDA TRIBUTE SUV. AT THE END OF 2005, I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY ACCELERATOR STICKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND ASSUMED THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NEVER OCCUR AGAIN. BUT, TO MY DISMAY, IT SEEMS TO OCCUR EVERY YEAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE COLD WEATHER ARRIVES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR REPAIR AND I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD NEED TO COME BACK WITHIN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MILES TO HAVE THE THROTTLE CLEANED SO THE ACCELERATOR WILL NOT STICK. RECENTLY, ON LAST FRIDAY, IT BEGAN TO STICK AGAIN WHEN I WAS DRIVING INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD I COULD NOT GET UP ON MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD TO COAST IT ALONG THE SIDE OF THE STREET AND PARK IT. WHENEVER THIS OCCURS, I CANNOT PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR AT ALL, IT WILL NOT BUDGE AND MY CAR TENDS TO LOSE POWER AND BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN. ON SUNDAY EVENING, I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN IT OCCURRED, VERY SCARY, I COAST OVER INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE AND OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, SO I WOULD NOT BE HIT FROM BEHIND. ON MONDAY MORNING, ON MY WAY TO WORK, I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN I WENT TO PULL OFF AFTER THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, IT WOULD NOT MOVE. THIS IS SO RIDICULOUS, AS I HAVE TO GO TO THE DEALER EACH TIME AND PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL. FILLING THE GAS TANK BECAME A PROBLEM AS WEATHER BECAME COLDER. IT FILLS SLOWLY AND BACKS UP. IF NOT ANTICIPATING IT FUEL WILL SPRAY BACK AT YOU AN RUN BACK OUT FILLER TUBE IN FACT IT IS HARD NOT TO HAVE SOME FUEL SPILL DURING THE FILL. I SAW TSB ON THE ISSUE AND CONTACTED DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED ,A FORD DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET INFORMATION ON THE PROBLEM AND SAID THAT I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM ANYWAY AND WOULD HAVE TO GO TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP TO GET IT DONE. I CONTACTED MAZDA USA BY PHONE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY OR RECALL. THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIR. WITH PERSISTENCE THEY SAID IF I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND PAID FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND RESULTS WERE CONSISTENT WITH THE TSB THAT THEY MIGHT HELP WITH THE REPAIR UNDER A "GOODWILL" PROGRAM. I REQUESTED TSB FIX INFORMATION SO I COULD CONSIDER WHAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX SO I COULD DECIDE MY MOST ECONOMICAL ROUTE TO GET IT FIXED BUT THEY REFUSED. THEY SAID THAT INFORMATION WOULD ONLY BE GIVEN TO MAZDA MECHANICS DUE TO "LIABILITY" CONCERNS. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUES AND IT NOW OCCURS AT EVERY FUEL FILL, THE COLDER IT IS THE WORSE IT IS BUT IT OCCURS EVEN WHEN IT IS ABOVE FREEZING. I HAVE A COWORKER WITH A 2006 TRIBUTE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. NO SERIOUS EVENT TO US YET BUT MY SON BORROWED THE CAR ONCE AND I WAS UNABLE TO WARN HIM AHEAD AND HE WAS DOUSED IN GAS. ANY STATIC SPARK OR OTHER IGNITION SOURCE AND THERE WILL BE A TRAGEDY. REMEMBER THIS IS OCCURRING AT A GAS PUMP AT A GAS STATION WITH FUEL TANK DOOR AND CAP OPEN WITH GAS PUMP RUNNING. IT IS AT IT WORSE AT THE MOST LIKELY TIME FOR A STATIC ELECTRIC SPARK ( DRY AND COLD). MAZDA SHOWED NO INTEREST OR CONCERN TO DEAL WITH THIS. MY TRIBUTE IS A V-6 3.0L AND THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED 11-04 PER DRIVER'S DOOR STICKER. SHOCK MOUNT HAS RUSTED OUT AND THE STRUT IS HANGING LOOSE. YOU LOOK UP FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SEE INTO THE INTERIOR INSULATION. STRUT CAN CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ROTTED OUT WHEEL WELL CAN ALLOW EXHAUST FUMES TO ENTER THE VEHICLE CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
