I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT BEHIND A CAR AND WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR TOOK OFF OUT OF CONTROL AND SMASHED INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. THE CAR WAS RACING AND I BELIEVE THE GAS PEDAL WAS STUCK. I JUST WANTED TO ADD THAT MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS OF NO HELP TO ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE STOPPED AT A LIGHT. SHE WENT TO TAKE HER FOOT OFF OF THE BRAKE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. IN ADDITION, A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO REV EXCESSIVELY HIGH AND THE VEHICLE REAR-ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE TWICE WITH MODERATE IMPACT. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE FRONT BUMPER OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED OPERATION AND WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTIONS. ROTORS ARE BADLY WORN AFTER ONLY 48,000 MILES. TECHNICIAN SAYS IT IS DUE TO CHEAPER ROTORS INSTALLED BY ORIGINAL FACTORY NOT CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING WINTER CONDITIONS. *TR
I OWN A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WITH APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES. FOR THE PAST 6-8 MONTHS I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. IT IS REALLY RANDOM, SO CANNOT PINPOINT WHY OR WHAT CONDITIONS IT HAPPENS. AT FIRST I JUST THOUGHT I WASN'T PRESSING HARD ENOUGH ON THE PEDAL, BUT IT IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN AND TO THE POINT WHERE I ACTUALLY HAVE TO SLAM IT WITH MY FOOT TO MAKE THE CAR MOVE. I TRANSPORT CHILDREN IN MY CAR AND THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THIS MORNING I WAS MAKING A TURN AND WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THERE WAS A CAR BEHIND ME WHICH THANKFULLY DID NOT HIT ME, BUT IT COULD HAVE EASILY. WHEN THE GAS PEDAL FINALLY REACTED THE CAR ACCELERATED VERY FAST. AFTER READING ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE I THINK IT SERIOUSLY WARRANTS BEING LOOKED INTO FURTHER AND HAVING A RECALL NOTICE ISSUED. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ANYMORE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE SINCE I CANNOT PREDICT WHEN OR WHERE THE GAS PEDAL WILL FAIL TO RESPOND. FOR A CAR WITH SO FEW MILES ON IT, AND ME BEING THE ORIGINAL OWNER, I FEEL THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE OF MAZDA TO NOT TAKE NOTICE. AFTER MY LATEST INCIDENT, AND READING ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE, I WILL BE TAKING MY VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION WITH MAZDA AND HOPE THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. *TR
MY GAS PEDAL STICKS WHEN GOING FROM A DEAD STOP, CAUSING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE TO FAST. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN IT IS COLD BUT HAS BEEN REOCCURING MORE FREQUENTLY. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING IN THE SNOW AND ICE. *TR
GAS PEDAL STICKS. YOU HAVE TO PRESS OR STOMP HARD IN ORDER TO GET THE PEDAL UNSTUCK. THIS IS BAD AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. WILL BE TAKING IN TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. READ OTHER REPORTS OF THIS SAYS IT MAY BE CARBON BUILD UP. NOT SURE BUT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DOWN IF THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. *TR
DURING THE WINTER AFTER THE PURCHASE OF MY NEW MAZDA TRIBUTE, THE GAS PEDAL WAS STICKING-I COULD NOT PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN IT WAS STICKING SO BAD. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS CARBON BUILD UP. THEY DID CLEAN IT FOR ME. IT STUCK LAST WINTER TOO. NOW THE GAS PEDAL IS STICKING MORE THAN EVER AND THEY ARE TELLING ME I NEED A WHOLE NEW GAS PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND ESTIMATED THE COST AT $191.00. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED OVER IT. I HAVE A 14 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. THEY TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY GAS PEDALS STICKING AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I THEN RESEARCHED THE STICKING GAS PEDAL AND FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A VERY WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM. *TR
ACCELERATOR STICKS ESPECIALLY IN COOL WEATHER. WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A THE GAS PEDAL HAS TO BE HIT HARD CAUSING A SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN WET CONDITIONS OR IN TRAFFIC. TALKED TO MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH 2002 MODELS AND A RECALL WAS ISSUED. *TR
THROTTLE STICKS ON THE GET-GO WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOP GIVING A WHIPLASH TYPE START. NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT IT AS OF YET. 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE 4 CYL. *TR
I OWN A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE AND HAVE HAD NUMEROUS INCIDENTS WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. THIS HAPPENS MOST OFTEN ON COLD FALL MORNINGS. THE PEDAL WILL STICK AND NOT ALLOW ME TO ACCELERATE, GENERAL HAPPENING WHEN I'VE BEEN STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, WAITING TO MAKE A TURN, OR JUST AS I GO TO ACCELERATE WHILE TRAVELING STRAIGHT. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE WITHOUT THEM ABLE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY FALL SINCE 2005 AND MAZDA WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE THAT THE GAS PEDAL STICKS ON. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED TWICE AND IT IS RECURRING. IT IS A BIG SAFETY RISK BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO STICK. IT TYPICALLY STARTS OUT ONLY HAPPENING IN THE MORNING BUT IT PROGRESSES TO ANY TIME THROUGHOUT THE DAY. YOU MAY BE DRIVING AND STOP OR DECELERATE AND THEN WHEN YOU START TO GO YOU CANT BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL IS STUCK. AND IT WILL TAKE MULTIPLE TRIES OF PRESSING IT BEFORE IT WILL GO. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. I KNOW I WILL TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY WILL FIX IT AND CHARGE ME AND THEN IN A FEW MONTHS THE PROBLEM WILL REOCCUR. PLEASE ADVISE ME ON WHAT TO DO. I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE METAL INTERIOR OF THE SEAT PROTRUDING UNDER THE FABRIC OF THE SEAT. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WAS REPLACED ON 9/05 AT 24,000 MILES UNDER WARRANTY NOW AT 84,000 MILES ITS BAD AGAIN SAYING IT NEEDED REPLACING AT 60,000MILES ON THE NEW ONE AND WANT TO CHARGE ME $3600.00 A TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT GO BAD ALREADY WITH 60,000 MILES OF AGE. IT HAD BEEN FLUSH LIKE IT SHOULD , BUT THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ONE THEY PUT IN HAD A WARRANTY FOR 12MTH/12000 MILES. SO I OUT OF LOOK , I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THE 626 ENGINE ON THE MAZDA IS THE SAME ENGINE IN THE TRIBUTE A4LD AND IT TOO GAVE RECURRING PROBLEMS. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT SUDDENLY 2 DAYS AGO. HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. DEALER CLAIMS THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND SWITCH WERE AFTER MARKET PARTS. THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE AS THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN SERVICED BY OUR LOCAL MAZDA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. THEY ARE COVERING IT UNDER THE WARRANTY, BUT CAN'T SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHEN THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND SWITCH WERE "REPLACED". *TR
MAZDA TRIBUTE 2005 TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 29,380 MILES . REPLACED WITH REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION AND WAS NOT GIVE A WARRANTY ON THE (THEY SAID NEW) TRANSMISSION--WAS TOLD THE REMAINING WARRANTY ON MY CAR WAS ALL I GOT. OTHER TRANSMISSION SHOPS NEARBY SAID THEY GAVE 12 TO 24 MONTH WARRANTY AND OFFERED EXTENDED WARRANTIES ON THEIR REMANUFACTURED TRANSMISSIONS. I WAS INFORMED BY THE TRANSMISSION SHOPS THAT MAZDA AND FORD ESCAPE WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR UNRELIABILITY AND FREQUENCY OF FAILURE OF THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. THE "OTHER " SHOPS GOT THESE CARS AT 80,000 MILES USUALLY, WHICH MEANS TO ME THAT MAZDA DEALERS ARE MORE THAN LIKELY GETTING A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF TRANSMISSION FAILURES THAT ARE UNDER WARRANTY AND THEN MAKING THE CUSTOMER LIABLE FOR THE NEXT TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT A SUBSTANTIAL COST BETWEEN 2200 TO 2800 DOLLARS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC TIRES, SIZE P235/70R16. AND DOT# A30846JB3604. WHILE DRIVING 73 MPH THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TREAD SEPARATED, LOST AIR, AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FISH TAIL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE HAD TO PURCHASE TWO NEW REAR TIRES BECAUSE HE WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS TREAD SEPARATION ON THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE AS WELL. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGES TO THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT, STEP GUARD WAS BENT, GLASS WAS CHIPPED IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW, AND THE MOLDING IN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WELL WAS BROKEN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,500. UPDATED 08/18/08 *BF UPDATED 08/19/08
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND NOTICED THAT THE PEDAL HAD BECOME STUCK. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL UNTIL IT RELEASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND GREASED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION OPEN UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12019 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CRUISE CONTROL VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS WERE WARPED. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, HE NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,499 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
FRONT TIRE ROTORS ARE DEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BRAKE FAILURE. *TR
THE GAS PEDAL ON MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE FREQUENTLY LOCKS UP/ JAMS IN PLACE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. IT LOCKS IN THE UP POSITION AND WILL NOT RELEASE WITH ANY AMOUNT OF PRESSURE- SOMETIME IF I PULL UP ON THE PEDAL AND THEN TRY TO PRESS BACK DOWN, IT WILL RELEASE, BUT NOT ALWAYS. THE PEDAL STAYS IN THE UP POSITION AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING- THE CAR CANNOT GO LEAVING ME STRANDED UNTIL IT UNLOCKS. TWO TIMES NOW IT HAS LOCKED UP FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME (MORE THAN A FEW MINUTES) WHILE I WAS OUT ON THE ROAD. LUCKILY EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER, AND IT WAS NOT AT A BUSY TIME OF THE DAY. NOTHING WILL UNLOCK THE PEDAL WHEN IT JAMS- PRESSING ON IT AS HARD AS I CAN, TRYING GENTLY, OR TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. I HAVE JUST HAD TO WAIT FOR IT TO RELEASE. I HAVE FOUND A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND CANNOT BELIEVE NO ONE HAS BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS- IT IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN IN TRAFFIC, AN INTERSECTION, OR ON THE HIGHWAY- THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE, AND THE DRIVER IS POWERLESS TO DO ANYTHING! I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT NEEDS A TOTAL THROTTLE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT- BUT BASED ON OTHER PEOPLE TESTIMONIALS THIS WILL NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM- MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE SAID THEY HAVE HAD THIS REPLACEMENT AND IT STILL LOCKS IN PLACE, SO I AM WARY TO SPEND $400 FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL NOT WORK. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN OUT ON THE ROAD IT COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING CONSEQUENCES- BEING UNABLE TO MOVE YOUR VEHICLE BECAUSE THE GAS PEDAL IS JAMMED IS A VERY UNNERVING EXPERIENCE. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING GREATER THAN 30 MILES PER HOUR THE CAR IS SO LOUD YOU CAN'T HEAR THE RADIO AND ITS TOO LOUD FOR MY SON THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR (USED) ON MONDAY JAN 21,08 I HAVE BEEN CALLING THE MADZA DEALERSHIP THEY KEEP TELLING ME TO WAIT SOMEONE WILL GET BACK TO ME. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IN FOR SERVICE TO HAVE THE SOUND RE-EVALUATED THE SERVICEMAN AT MAZDA DEALERSHIP SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING AND THAT IT MAY BE CAUSING THE LOUD NOISE. WHAT SHOULD I DO? IT IS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATE 15 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED TO ENGAGE AND THE CONTACT HAD TO TAP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FOUR TIMES FOR IT TO OPERATE. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
THE ROTORS ON MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE AFTER TWO YEARS AND 31,000 MILES WERE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 2005 TRIBUTE ROTORS WERE MADE OF ASBESTOS AND THAT IS WHY THE ROTORS WORE SO QUICKLY BECAUSE THEY WERE MADE OF A VERY SOFT MATERIAL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN IMPROVED WITH A MORE DURABLE MATERIAL. MAZDA TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT PUT THE NEW IMPROVED ROTORS ON MY 2005 BECAUSE I HAD TO STAY WITH 2005 PARTS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS, WHY WASN'T THE 2005 TRIBUTES RECALLED BECAUSE OF THIS DEFECT IN THE ROTORS? *TR
DURING THE LAST STATE INSPECTION, IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT ALL 4 TIRES ON MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE WERE WORN ON THE INSIDE EDGE ONLY. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND THAT THE SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE WAS TO JUST REPLACE THE TIRES. THE CAR HAS 26,843 MILES ON IT, HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF-ROAD OR USED TO TOW ANYTHING. I COULD UNDERSTAND WEAR ACROSS THE TREAD, BUT THIS IS LIMITED TO JUST THE INSIDE EDGE. I CALLED THE MAZDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER IN CALIFORNIA AND AFTER SPEAKING TO A MANAGER A REPRESENTATIVE DID STATE TO ME THAT HE HAD HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AS WELL. I DID TALK TO CONTINENTAL, THE TIRE MANUFACTURE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT FIRST OF ALL THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON OEM TIRES, AND THIS KIND OF WEAR CAN ONLY MEAN THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. I HAVE DOCUMENTED SERVICE RECORDS AND THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE HAS BEEN FOLLOWED TO THE LETTER INCLUDING TIRE ROTATION. THE FINAL DECISION TO HELP ME WAS THE DISTRICT MANAGER FROM MAZDA AND HE TOLD ME QUOTE ?THE CAR HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT, YOUR LUCKY TO GET THAT KIND OF MILEAGE FROM THOSE TIRES, YOU SHOULD JUST GET NEW ONES? I AM ALSO AFRAID THAT JUST PUTTING NEW TIRES ON THE CAR WILL ONLY BE A BAND-AID AND I WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM AGAIN IN 30,000 MILES. *TR
I HAVE REPEATEDLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING. NOT IN THE "ON" POSITION BUT RATHER WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE AFTER STOPPING OR DECELERATION IT WILL STICK AND I CAN NOT PUSH IT DOWN. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND UPON RESTART, IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE FAILURE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 8/24/12 *CN UPDATED 09/04/12
IN 2007 VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND CAME ON. BEFORE I COULD REACH A DEALER OR SHOP THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE. DEALER SAID THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND FRIED THE MAIN COMPUTER. COMPUTER WAS REPLACED AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS CHECKED. DEALER FOUND SEVERAL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS THAT WERE LOOSE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES THAT CAUSED A RECALL ON THE TRIBUTE / ESCAPE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TRIBUTE PURCHASED IN AUG OF 05 WITH 26500 MILES. MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON WHILE BACKING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND REBOUNDED WITH FORCE. THEN I HAD NO BRAKES. STOPPED THE CAR WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. MAZDA NEEDS TO GET THIS FIXED. *JB
2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE GAS PEDAL STICKS, NO RHYME NOR REASON......CIRCUMSTANCES ARE NEVER THE SAME, SO IT IS SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS. I TRY SHIFTING FROM GEAR TO GEAR........REVERSE, NEUTRAL ETC. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT RESUMES WORKING LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS AT LEAST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. AS THE CONTACT EXITS HER DRIVEAWAY, THE ACCLERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BE IN THE ROAD WHILE ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS COMING TOWARDS HER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT NO CODES WERE SHOWING. THE DELAER STATED HE COULD NOT MAKE REPAIRS WITH THE DIAGNOSTIC SHOWING A FAILURE.THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED SHE SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY WOULD RUN A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 82,000.
SINCE I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR THE 'DOOR AJAR' LIGHT IS MOSTLY ON--ALL THE TIME. IT IS A MINOR ANNOYANCE; HOWEVER, I AM READING TONS OF OTHER MAZDA TRIBUTE OWNERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. NO ONE I'VE HAD IT TO--INCLUDING THE DEALER--COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. IT CLEARLY IS A DEFECT. SOMETIMES I AM CONCERNED IT WILL POSE A SAFETY ISSUE AS, FOR INSTANCE, IT WILL BE OFF (RARE, BUT SOMETIMES IT TURNS OFF). THEN I ROLL DOWN A WINDOW, OR SOMETIMES DO NOTHING, AND THEN THE LIGHT SUDDENLY COMES ON. IT DINGS AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON IN THE CAR AS THOUGH SOMEONE OPENED A DOOR. I PURCHASED A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE NEW FROM A DEALERSHIP IN ELGIN, IL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS OLD, THE REAR LIFT GATE BEGAN TO RUST, RESULTING IN THE PAINT PEELING AND FLAKING OFF. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND HAS OCCURRED IN MULTIPLE AREAS ON THE REAR LIFT GATE. THOUGH I LOCATED MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET, THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALLS. ONE REPORT STATED THERE WAS A TECHNICAL ISSUE WITH THE PAINT BY FORD (WHERE THE VEHICLES ARE MANUFACTURED) USED CAUSING THIS PROBLEM, BUT FORD HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM OR ISSUED A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC, THE CONTACT LOOKED IN HER REAR VIEW MIRROR AND NOTICED A VEHICLE APPROACHING. SHE MOVED THE VEHICLE SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT, BUT IT WAS STILL STRUCK. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS FAILED. THE SEAT BELT ON THE DRIVER SIDE DID NOT FAIL, BUT IT DID NOT HOLD THE CONTACT DOWN. THE SUNROOF BUCKLED AND THE VEHICLE WAS SPLIT IN HALF. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE THEN SPUN IN A CIRCLE. THE POLICE AND PARAMEDICS ARRIVED AND TRANSPORTED THE CONTACT TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT AND THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE WERE INJURED. HE HAS NOT NOTIFIED MAZDA. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, SPEED, AND MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000. GAS PEDAL STICKING AND DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. PEDAL/THROTTLE BODY, "STICKS" SO THAT YOU MUST APPLY MORE AND MORE PRESSURE TO THE GAS PEDAL UNTIL IT "BREAKS FREE" AND STARTS TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE. THIS CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD (OR BACKWARD IF IN REVERSE). MORE OF A NUISANCE AT MOMENT, BUT HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE IN LAST MONTH. *NM

I WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH AND THE GAS PEDDLE STUCK, I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, I HAD TO SLOWLY BRAKE. MY GAS PEDAL STICKS. I CANNOT PRESS IT DOWN TO ACCELERATE. IT SEEMS TO ONLY DO IT WHEN ITS COLDER OUT. I'VE ALMOST BEEN IN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS BECAUSE I GO TO PULL OUT ONTO THE ROAD FROM A STOP AND CANNOT GO FASTER THAN IDLE SPEED. ALMOST EVERY DAY THAT ITS COLDER OUT IT STICKS. UNTIL LAST WEEK I OWNED A 4X4 THAT I DROVE IN THE WINTER SO GETTING THE MAZDA IN TO THE SHOP WAS ALWAYS ON THE BACKBURNER AND MOSTLY FORGOTTEN. THE MAZDA WAS DRIVEN MOSTLY IN THE WARMER MONTHS. I RECEIVED RECALL NOTICES IN THE MAIL AND WAS TOLD BY A CAR SALESMAN IT WAS FOR MY ISSUE SO SO L WAS NEVER IN A HURRY TO GET IT IN. COME TO FIND OUT THE RECALL IS FOR THE 04 TRIBUTE'S SPEED CONTROL CABLE ISSUE AND NOW MY WARRANTY IS UP. SO NOTHING WAS EVER DONE ABOUT IT. *TR

THE GAS PEDAL STICKS (UP POSITION). USUALLY WHEN IT IS COOL OUT, THOUGH IT HAS HAPPENED IN WARM TEMPERATURES. IT HAPPENS WHEN MY FOOT HAS RELEASED THE GAS PEDAL AND PRESSES BACK ONTO IT TO ACCELERATE. IT DOES NOT GO DOWN. MOST TIMES I HAVE TO SLAM MY FOOT ON IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE IT WORKS (ACCELERATES) BUT THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL TIMES THAT HASN'T WORKED AND I HAVE HAD TO LET MY CAR COAST OF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER THE 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE IS HIGHWAY DRIVEN FOR 4 TO 6 HOURS THE BRAKES FAIL TO STOP THE CAR WITHIN NORMAL DISTANCES. IT FEELS LIKE THERE ARE NO POWER BRAKES; MUCH LIKE STOPPING 1960'S CARS WITH DRUM BRAKES. THESE FAILURES, DO NOT OCCUR IN AROUND TOWN DRIVING; AND CANNOT BE DUPLICATED BY THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP DURING AROUND TOWN TEST DRIVES. AS IT ONLY OCCURS AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR HOURS, AND PARTICULARLY IN HOT CLIMATES LIKE ARIZONA, IT APPEARS THE PROBLEM IS HEAT RELATED. WHEN TRYING TO STOP EXITING A FREEWAY, AND STANDING ON THE BRAKES, AND STILL BLOWING THROUGH A STOP, IT SCARES THE HELL OUT OF DRIVER, PASSENGERS AND OTHER TRAFFIC AND HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING LETHAL TO PERSONS AND PROPERTY. *TR

THE INSIDE TREAD OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE SHOWED THE STEEL BAND AND THE PASSENGER SIDE PRESENTED EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE TIRES MIGHT HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO COVER THE COST OF NEW TIRES IF A DEFECTIVE PART WAS FOUND DURING THE ALIGNMENT PROCESS.
2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE, CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE, MECHANIC REFUSES TO REPAIR VEHICLE. *KB THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO TAKE HIS VEHICLE TO THE NEAREST DEALER AND WAS TOLD HE HAD TO FILL OUT A QUESTIONNAIRE BEFORE HE COULD MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. IN LATE JUNE HE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THAT DEALER STATING, HE SHOULD RETURN TO HIS SELLING DEALER FOR SERVICING NEEDS AND THAT THEIR DEALERSHIP WAS PRIMARILY FOR CUSTOMERS WHO PURCHASED VEHICLES FROM THEM. *JB
TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE AIRBAG ICON/LIGHT THAT IS ALWAYS ON. WHEN I TURN ON THE IGNITION, THE ICON BLINKS. EVEN IF I AM DRIVING THE ICON STAYS LIT. DEALER HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. *JB
MY 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE I-4, WITH 19,000 MILES ON IT, EXPERIENCED AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER TO BRING THE CAR IN BECAUSE IT MIGHT DIE. MY VEHICLE IS NOW BEING HELD FOR ABOUT A WEEK, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT ALTERNATORS FOR THIS VEHICLE ARE BACK-ORDERED. I WONDER IF THEY ARE BACK ORDERED BECAUSE OTHER FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED AT VERY LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLES. *JB

I FEEL IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE TRIBUTE, OTHER CARS DO NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. ALL THEY DID WAS CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY BOTH TIMES. THEY ALSO SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ALTHOUGH THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME FOR THE WORK DONE. I AM LEARY ABOUT DRIVING MY CAR SINCE I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL START STICKING AGAIN. *JB
WITH JUST OVER 12000 MILES, THE THROTTLE BECAME VERY STICKY IN COLD WEATHER. THE BUTTERFLIES IN THE THROTTLE BODY HOLD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CLOSED, REQUIRING EXCESSIVE FORCE TO PUSH (AND EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION). IN COLD WEATHER, THROTTLE WOULD STICK CLOSED WHENEVER THE PEDAL WAS RELEASED, NO MATTER HOW LONG THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. THE DEALERSHIP (HALL MAZDA IN VIRGINIA BEACH) REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, AND COMMENTED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SHOULD BE CLEANED EVERY 12000 MILES FOR VARNISH BUILDUP. THERE IS NO TSB THAT I COULD FIND ON THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS THE PCV SYSTEM, ALLOWING OIL TO COLLECT ON THE THROTTLE BODY, AND CAUSING IT TO BIND DURING COLD WEATHER. *JB
WHILE ACCELERATING, THE ACCELERATOR GETS STUCK AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SLOWS DOWN TO A CRAWL. DRIVER HAS TO PULL OVER AND PUMP ACCELERATOR IN ORDER TO GET IT UNSTUCK. CHECKED WITH DEALER INITIALLY AND CALLED MAZDA TODAY JANUARY 8, 2014 TO ASK IF THERE HAVE BEEN A RECALL. WAS TOLD, NO. IN THE PAST, HAD TO TAKE CAR TO MECHANIC AND LEFT IT TO BE TEST DRIVEN IN ORDER FOR MECHANIC TO REPLICATE PROBLEM. MECHANIC FOUND THE PROBLEM AND CLEANED ACCELERATOR. PROBLEM CONTINUOUS SPORADICALLY. *TR
I HAD A 2005 MAZDA TRIBUTE I, BOUGHT IN MARCH 2005. IN DECEMBER 2005 I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED TWICE. I WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED, BUT THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY IN THE ACCIDENT. FURTHER, THE CAR RADIO CAME LOOSE FROM ITS MOUNTINGS, AND WHIPPED AROUND ON ITS ANTENNA CABLE. I'M NOT CERTAIN, BUT I THINK THE LOOSE RADIO HIT ME IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD CAUSING BRUISES AND CONTUSIONS. *JB
