TAKATA RECALL, THE AIRBAG HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED.
TAKATA RECALL. MERCEDES-BENZ USA (MBUSA) HAS BEEN UNABLE TO PROVIDE US WITH ANY ESTIMATE WHATSOEVER AS TO WHEN OUR VEHICLE MAY BE REPAIRED. WE WERE NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL IN MAY. JUST YESTERDAY (15 SEPTEMBER) WE WERE TOLD THAT NHTSA WAS DETERMINING WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE TO MERCEDES-BENZ, AND THAT THERE IS NO WAY MBUSA CAN TELL US EVEN APPROXIMATELY WHEN THE VEHICLE CAN BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE NHTSA WAS IN CHARGE OF THE COORDINATED REPLACEMENT PLAN. THAT'S NOT WHAT YOUR WEB SITE SAYS. MBUSA CLAIMS THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY SAFE TO DRIVE, EVEN THOUGH IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE SAME TAKATA PSDI-5 DRIVERS-SIDE AIRBAG INFLATOR WHICH HAS KILLED AT LEAST TEN PEOPLE IN OTHER AUTOMOBILES. MBUSA BASES THIS CLAIM ON THE ASSERTION THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A REPORTED DEATH OR INJURY CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE AIRBAG INFLATOR IN A MERCEDES VEHICLE TO DATE. TO USE THAT ASSERTION AS THE BASIS FOR PUTTING MANY THOUSANDS OF MOTORISTS AT AN INCREASED RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY IN MERCEDES-BENZ VEHICLES SEEMS HIGHLY IRRESPONSIBLE. IT IS NOT REASONABLE TO ASK THE MOTORIST TO ASSUME THIS RISK. I DON'T SEE ANY EVIDENCE THAT THE COMPANY HAS A SENSE OF URGENCY ABOUT THIS RECALL, MUCH LESS A REAL PLAN FOR GETTING THE REPAIRS DONE.
MY 2007 MERCEDES C230 SMELLS OF GAS IF I FILL THE TANK MORE THAN HALF WAY. IT ONLY HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT

2016 I TOOK MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230, INTO MERCEDES BENZ TO SEE WHY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH 37K MILES ON IT AT THE TIME I PURCHASED IT. HOW COULD SUCH A MAJOR ISSUE, ARISE IN CAR SO EARLY IN IT'S LIFE. MERCEDES STATED, THAT THEY MAKE THE BEST QUALITY OF CARS IN THE WORLD! THEY STAND BY THIS SLOGAN. HOWEVER, WHY WOULD SUCH A MAJOR ISSUE OCCUR IN A CAR WITH SUCH LOW MILES/USAGE? AS I UNDERSTAND IT, MATTERS OF THIS MAGNITUDE IDEALLY DOES NOT OCCUR IN SUCH A QUALITY CAR, LET ALONE IN THE CARS INFANT STAGE OR WOULD LIKELY HAPPEN AT ALL! I WAS TOLD SOMETIME AGO THAT MERCEDES KNEW OF THIS ISSUE. I ALSO SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED SO MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AROUND THE WORLD. MERCEDES HAS REFUSED TO CORRECT, ITS DEFECT IT WAS WELL AWARE OF! WHO ALLOWS MERCEDES BENZ, THE PLATFORM TO SEE THESE CARS TO CONSUMERS, WITHOUT RESOLVING THE ISSUE. CONSIDERING A PERSON'S FINANCIAL INVESTMENT IN THEIR PURCHASE! CAN SOMEONE HELP ME, UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAS HAPPENED.
MY VEHICLE BECAME STUCK ON ONE GEAR AS I ENTERED THE FREEWAY. I HAD MY KIDS WITH ME AND I HAD TO PULL OVER THE SHOULDER. AFTER TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN, IT RESET ITSELF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES NOW. NOW ITS HAPPENING ON STOP LIGHTS AS I TRY TO ACCELERATE, IT FEELS ITS DRAGGING AND CARS BEHIND ME ARE HONKING AT ME TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY. IT IS UNSAFE AND I CANT AFFORD TO FIX IT OR BUY ANOTHER ONE. I RESEARCHED AND FOUND MUCH MORE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WHY HAS NO ONE DONE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE? MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR AND I AM NOT SURE IF SHE WILL RESPOND IN THE SAME FASHION AS I DID WHEN PRESENTED WITH THIS DANGEROUS EVENT IF IT OCCURS. I WANTED SOMEONE WITH SOME CLOUT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS JUST IN CASE A DISASTER OCCURS I KNOW WHO TO GO AFTER. PLEASE MAKE MERCEDES BENZ RESPONSIBLE AND FIX THIS FREE OF CHARGE. THE CAR STAYS IN FIRST GEAR AND I HAVE TO STOP AND PULL OVER. PUT IT IN PARK AND IT JERKS VERY BADLY GOING IT TO PARK. THEN I TURN IT OFF, AND BACK ON. THEN EVERYTHING GOES BACK TO NORMAL, UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS ISSUE AND THERE IS NO RECALL. WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR. THERE IS 113 COMPLAINTS ON THIS CAR AND ALMOST NONE ARE FROM THE ONLY RECALL THEY HAVE ACTUALLY ISSUED. THIS HAPPENS ON A RED LIGHT. IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGH WAY. IN REVERSE. I WISH I NEVER BOUGHT THIS CAR. SOME PEOPLE PAID 1500 DOLLARS TO FIX IT. I THOUGHT MERCEDES MEANT HIGH QUALITY. AT LEAST THEY CAN ADMIT THEIR MISTAKE AND FIX IT FOR THE PEOPLE SUFFERING BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. THE CAR HAS 94000 MILES. MY HONDA WENT TO 200,000 WITH OUT ISSUES.
STRONG GAS ODOR IN GARAGE & HOUSE. THIS OCCURS AFTER FILLING UP CAR AND PARKING CAR IN GARAGE OVERNIGHT.
I PURCHASED A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230 IN 2006 FROM THE MERCEDES-BENZ DEALERSHIP AND I HAVE HAD IT IN THE GARAGE.I'VE ONLY DROVE TO CHURCH AND THAT'S IT 700 MILES IS WHAT'S ON MY CAR.I'VE NOTICED ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN I PUT GAS IT, YOU CAN SMELL IT STRONG. I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE TYPE GAS (SUPREME) WHAT I'VE BEEN USING. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING TO GET A OIL CHANGE WHEN THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS LEAKING FUEL.THERE ARE TWO RUBBER SEALS ONE GOES ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE UNDER THE BACK SEAT. HE TOLD ME THAT IS GOING TO COST $700.00. I ASKED HIM HOW IS DID THAT HAPPEN BECAUSE I DON'T DRIVE MY CAR LIKE THAT FOR SOMETHING TO GO WRONG WITH IT. HE STATES THAT IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND DRIVING THE CAR COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR WORST BLOW UP.THE GAS IS LEAKING AND DRIVING THE CAR IF YOU SUDDENLY HAVE TO STOP THE GAS WOULD LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST PIPE,IF THE PIPE IS HOT THERE IS A PROBLEM. I SAID WELL THAT HAS NOT COME FROM ME,I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF MY CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID SIR, NO THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN DONE BY YOU.I SAID THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL BECAUSE MY CAR IS BRAND NEW NOT BY THE YEAR BUT BY THE MILEAGE AND FIR SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO BE SO DANGEROUS.HE AGREED AND SAID HE WILL FIX THE PROBLEM.HE PUT ME IN A RENTAL FROM FRI-MON AND SAID HE WILL CALL ME WHEN MY CAR IS FIXED. I GET HOME AND LATER AROUND 6PM HE CALLED ME AND SAID IT WAS SOMETHING ELSE WRONG FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE GAS LEAK AND NOW WANT TO CHARGE ME $1500.00 I TOLD HIM I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. L/H FUEL UNIT FUEL SENDER O RINGS FUEL SENDER LOCK RINGS ALL FOR THE LOW COST OF $1,095.84 FOR NOW WE ARE NOT FILLING TANK. I'VE READ ON LINE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MB A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE.
GAS SMELL IN GARAGE - GAS CAP TIGHT JUST FILLED TANK
"TAKATA RECALL" ON MY 2007 MERCEDES. I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER FROM MERCEDES ABOUT THE TAKATA RECALL . I FOUND OUT THROUGH THE INTERNET. I WENT TO MY LOCAL MERCEDES DEALERSHIP AND ASK ABOUT GETTING A RENT A CAR UNTIL PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, WHICH THEY REFUSED. I ADVISED THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO DRIVE THE UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED, DUE TO SEVERAL DEATHS. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT, "IT WAS NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN," ON THE RECALL INFORMATION THAT I PULLED UP ON THE INTERNET, IT SAYS THAT THE RECALL CAME OUT ON FEB 11 2016, TODAY IS APRIL 27, AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY COMMUNICATION FROM MERCEDES, SO I HAVE A CAR SETTING IN THE GARAGE THAT I CAN'T DRIVE. JUST TWO WEEK AGO AN 18 YR OLD GIRL WAS KILLED IN HER HONDA, WHEN SHE HAD A MINOR ACCIDENT. SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE DIED, DUE TO THIS FINDER-BENDER. I WOULD LIKE FOR SOMEONE IN NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE WHY I AM NOT GETTING ANY UPDATE FROM MERCEDES ? WHEN WILL PARTS BE AVAILABLE TO INSTALL ? TAKATA RECALL - RECALL WAS ISSUED IN FEBRUARY 2016 AND IT IS NOW ALMOST OCTOBER 2016. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY SAID THE PARTS ARE NOT IN YET FOR THE RECALL. IN THE LETTER I WAS SENT IT SAID THAT THIS COULD CAUSE DEATH TO THE DRIVER AND I HAVE TO DRIVE THIS CAR DAILY. UNACCEPTABLE. WHAT IS BEING DONE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?
TAKATA RECALL: MERCEDES BENZ'S AIRBAG RECALL WAS ISSUED IN FEBRUARY 2016 AND, ALMOST 2 YEARS LATER, STILL NO REMEDY IS AVAILABLE. MERCEDES HAS STILL NOT OFFERED ANY REPAIR (OR MITIGATION) FOR THE DEADLY AIRBAGS THEY INSTALLED IN THEIR VEHICLES. IT IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE THAT, AFTER TWO YEARS, MERCEDES HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP ANY REPAIR OR MITIGATION FOR THIS DEADLY DEFECT. HOW ABOUT AN "OFF" SWITCH FOR THE DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS UNTIL MERCEDES CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THEM?
TAKATA INFLATORS - RECALL WAS FEB 2016 --- I DRIVE THIS CAR EVERY DAY AND IT HAS BEEN 18 MONTHS SINCE THE RECALL. I WANT THE AIR BAGS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY - IT HAS BEEN LPONG ENOUGH TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE.
THIS VEHICLE SHOWS SAME SYMPTOMS AS WHAT WAS INVESTIGATED ON REPORT# VRTC-DCD-3206 BY NHTSA. UPON FILLING UP THE GAS TANK TO FULL, GAS LEAKS FROM SANDING UNIT UNDER REAR PASSENGER SEAT. FEW TIMES THE GAS HAS MADE ITS WAY OUT AND DRIPPED FROM REAR LEFT WHEEL WELL. REACHED OUT TO MB USA AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS ONLY IN E-CLASS AND THEY WILL NOT EXTEND IT TO C-CLASS. I SEE THIS AS A POOR PRODUCT DESIGN AS THE CAR ONLY HAS UNDER 14,000 MILES. IT'S BOTH HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAMSHAFT FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE 2 VEHICLES AFFECTED AND THERE IS NO PLANNED REMEDY. I HAVENT RECEIVED ANY UPDATES. THIS IS GOING ON 2 YEARS. IT WILL BE TOO LATE WHEN SOMEONE GETS HARMED OR KILLED. 2014 DODGE AVENGER AND THIS MERCEDES.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE EXPERIENCED MY VEHICLE GOING INTO LIMP MODE DUE TO THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO BE HAVING. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM AN INTERSECTION, TRYING TO OVERTAKE A SLOWER VEHICLE, TRYING TO GET UP TO SPEED ENTERING THE INTERSTATE, BUT NOTHING PARTICULAR SEEMS TO TRIGGER IT. FORTUNATELY, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHIFT TO PARK, AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT, WHICH WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. UNTIL NOW. AFTER THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT RESET. IT IS STUCK IN WHAT APPEARS TO BE SECOND GEAR. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MERCEDES BENZ HAS NOT BEEN FORCED TO RECALL THE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 722.9 TRANSMISSION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET AND IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WORLD WIDE. IT HAS CAUSED ACCIDENTS RESULTING IN INJURY AND DEATH AND IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WHICH IS LOCATED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, ON TOP OF THE VALVE BODY. MERCEDES REFUSES TO SELL THE PART TO ANYONE OTHER THAN MERCEDES REPAIR SHOPS. MY CAR ONLY HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT, I BOUGHT IT USED 6 MONTHS AGO.

I HAVE VERY LOW MILEAGE ON MY CAR 48,336.. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE. VERY UNHEALTHY TO BREATHE IN FUEL VAPORS AND BAD FOR THE ATMOSPHERE. THIS IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE "E" CLASS RECALL. WHY WASNT THE "C" CLASS INCLUDED. PLEASE MAKE THIS A RECALL ON THE "C" CLASS.
STRONG GASOLINE ODOR COMING FROM CAR. THE SMELL IS NOTICED AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN AND IS PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I AM SCARED THAT THE FUMES CAUSED BY WHATEVER LEAK THIS MAY BE WILL IGNITE.
WHEN EVER THE VEHICLE IS FILLED WITH GASOLINE, THERE IS A FUEL SMELL THAT PERSISTS FOR AS MUCH AS SEVERAL DAYS AFTER. THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANY VISIBLE FUEL LEAKING, BUT THE SMELL OF FUEL IS THERE NONETHELESS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C280. WHILE DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THERE WAS A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE RPMS RACED AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS NOT RESPONDING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO COAST THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN OFF, AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE TRANSMISSION SHAFT, SPRINGS, INTERNAL SPEED SENSOR, AND CAM SHAFT NEEDED TO BE RE-ADJUSTED TO THE CORRECT POSITION. THE CONTACT WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

COST WAS $1,352.83. DEALER TOLD ME IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS TANK THERE IS A SMELL OF GAS AT THE BACK OF THE CAR . IT GOES AWAY AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 30 MILES BUT RETURNS WHEN FILLED UP AGAIN. SEAMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR .

CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER FILL-UP. REMOVED BACK SEAT TO FIND A PUDDLE OF GAS ON THE FUEL PUMP MODULE (DRIVERS SIDE). PLASTIC ON PUMP CRACKED, SHORTING OUT MODULE. BIG SAFETY HAZARD.
LOW BEAM DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT IS OUT AND GOES OUT WHEN REPLACING BULB. I ALWAYS TAKE MY CAR TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP, WHERE I PURCHASED NEW IN 2007, FOR MAINTENANCE. SERVICE REP SAYS THE WIRING IN HEADLAMP IS CORROSIVE AND NEEDS REPLACING. MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT THE WIRES AND THEY SEEM TO HAVE MELTED. THE LIGHTS HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT $350 EACH (X2) AND THE LABOR AS WELL TO REMOVE THE BUMPER AND PUT IN THE NEW LIGHTS. THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE W/ THESE CARS AND NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED OR RECALLED. I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANOTHER VEHICLE DOING THIS, NOR COSTING NEARLY $1000 TO REPLACE TWO HEADLIGHTS, WHICH IS CRUCIAL FOR SAFETY. I HAVE LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS BUT HAVE NOT SEEN ANY. AFTER REFUELING CAR TO FULL, CAR HAS A STRONG FUEL SMELL. THE SMELL PERSISTS IF THE CAR IS OVER 3/4'S FULL OR GREATER. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE I PURCHASED THIS CAR BUT I COULDN'T DETERMINE WHERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM UNTIL I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE FUEL WAS SPILLING FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL SENDING UNIT!!! HE MENTIONED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT I NEED TO CHECK IF THIS RECALLED ALREADY. I AM NOW VERY MORTIFIED OF THIS ISSUE!!!
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT, GOES INTO LIMP MODE. TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT A COUPLE MINUTES, RESTART THE CAR AND IT DRIVES FINE. THIS FIRST HAPPENED MAY 2015 WITH 66,000 MILES. OUR MECHANIC TOLD US THIS IS A VERY COMMON MERCEDES TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WE CHOOSE TO REPLACE THE FLUID, AND IT DID SEEM TO HELP. NOW WE HAVE 79,500 MILES AND IT GOES INTO LIMP MODE ONCE A WEEK. THE FLUID WAS SUPPOSED TO LAST 100,000 MILES. OUR MECHANIC SAID THE FLUID WE CHANGED WAS CLEAN. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, A KNOWN MERCEDES DEFECT WITH THE TRANSMISSION ELECTRONICS. THE NEXT STEP IF WE DECIDE TO KEEP THE CAR IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION CONDUCTOR PLATE. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A MERCEDES. THIS CAR HAS BEEN BABIED BY MY WIFE, AND HAS LESS THAN 100,000 IN 9 YEARS. ANY JAPANESE AUTOMOBILE WOULD HAVE EASILY PROVIDED DOUBLE THE LIFE BEFORE FAILURE. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO BE FACING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS TO A CAR WITH ON 79,500 MILES.

THIS CAUSES A MALFUNCTION IN HAVING YOUR EMISSION TO HAVE A FAULTY READING. I HAVE LESS THAN 120,000 ON IT . WHEN I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP OR SERVICE THE LIGHT STILL CAME ON. TO MY UNDERSTANDING A CLASS ACTION WAS TAKEN AGAINST THE COMPANY BY THIS MODEL WAS SKIPPED OVER.
ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE CONSTRUCTED OF UNTREATED ALUMINUM. IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT SALT WILL REACT EASILY WITH ALUMINUM, EXTENSIVE CORROSION RESULTS. THE DRIVER SIDE MOTOR MOUNT SITS IN A POCKET IN THE FRAME, WHERE BRINE CAN LAY ON IT FOR PROLONGED PERIODS. OF NOTE, MANY HIGHWAY DEPARTMENTS ARE NOW USING A BRINE MIX, INCLUDING MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE, THAT WILL REACT WITH MOISTURE IN THE AIR TO CONTINUE THE CORROSION PROCESS. A RECENT STUDY BY VOLKSWAGEN CONFIRMS THAT THIS ACCELERATES THE CORROSION PROCESS. IN APRIL OR MAY OF THIS YEAR, I HAD TO HAVE THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON MY CAR REPLACED. ONE FAILED COMPLETELY, THE OTHER WAS SEVERELY CRACKED AND NEARLY THE SAME WAY. THE ENTIRE TOP OF THE DRIVER SIDE MOUNT WAS COMPLETELY MISSING, APPARENTLY FROM CORROSION. WHAT WAS LEFT WAS WHITE POWDER. THE PASSENGER SIDE ALSO SHOWED EVIDENCE OF SIGNIFICANT CORROSION. THE MECHANIC WHO WORKED ON MY CAR SAID THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM, AND NOT THE FIRST HE HAD SEEN. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS. A COMPLETE FAILURE OF MOTOR MOUNTS COULD CAUSE A SEVERE ACCIDENT, WITH WIRING AND OR FUEL LINES BEING SHEARED, AND LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE BREAKAGE WOULD BE LIKELY TO OCCUR UPON ACCELERATION (THINK ABOUT ENTERING AN INTERSECTION) OR WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH MERCEDES CORPORATE OFFICES. I EXPLAINED THAT I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR ANY KIND OF FINANCIAL SETTLEMENT. I AM NOT. I WOULD LIKE THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED. IT HAS BEEN A FEW MONTHS NOW WITH NO RESPONSE. THIS SITUATION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

IN NOVEMBER OF 2012 MERCEDES-BENZ USA INITIATED A SERVICE CAMPAIGN THAT AFFECTED APPROX. 1,064,723 VEHICLES. THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS THE CAMSHAFT SOLENOID. MBUSA SENT THIS NOTICE TO ALL DEALERSHIPS, BUT FAILED TO NOTIFY THE VEHICLE OWNERS DIRECTLY. THEY APPARENTLY DID NOT DEEM THIS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL AND FELT NO OBLIGATION TO NOTIFY THE CONSUMER. HOWEVER, WHEN THE SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONS DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE PART IT DOES IN FACT AFFECT THE PERFORMANCE AND DRIVING ABILITY OF THE CAR. IF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, IN WHICH IS THE CASE HERE, IT DOES BECOME A SAFETY CONCERN. IT SEEMS THAT MBUSA KNOWINGLY WITHHELD THIS INFORMATION FROM THEIR CONSUMERS. DURING THE TIME OF THEIR CAMPAIGN MY VEHICLE WAS ALSO UNDER WARRANTY AS WELL. MBUSA HAD AMPLE OPPORTUNITY TO NOTIFY THEIR CUSTOMERS OF THIS ISSUE TO HAVE IT CORRECTED. THEY NEVER ACTIVELY PROVIDED NOTICES TO CUSTOMERS DIRECTLY. DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE AFFECTED SOLENOID, MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE REPAIRED IN APRIL 2015. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN MARCH 2014. I HAD MY VEHICLE REPAIRED AT AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AT A COST OF $232.93. MBUSA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FAILURE TO NOTIFY THE VEHICLE OWNERS OF THIS POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD IF NOT CORRECTED, AS WELL AS THEY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REIMBURSE ANY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES THAT WERE INCURRED AS A RESULT OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE BULLETIN THAT MBUSA PROVIDED TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS, BUT AGAIN FAILED TO PROVIDE TO THE 1,064,723 CONSUMERS THAT WERE AFFECTED.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND POWERED THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD FRACTURED. ALSO, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
