TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN FUEL TANK WAS FULL, THERE WAS A FUEL ODOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CANISTER SHUT OFF VALVE AND THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,000.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES-BENZ C280W. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COOLING FAN STAYED ON INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (ECU) NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
I NOTICED GAS SMELL IN THE GARAGE, I TOOK TO MERCEDES REPAIR SHOP, THE TWO FUEL SYSTEMS BOTH ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES WHERE REPLACED, STILL SMELL GAS WHEN THE GAS TANK IS ALMOST OR 3/4 FILLED TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP STOLL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SEAT HAD CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED ITSELF. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED RIGHT HIP INJURIES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEATING ELEMENT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
BALANCE SHAFT IS BAD MERCEDES WANTS $5833 TO FIX IT NOW THEY HAVE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM FOR THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THE WHOLE AMOUNT TO FIX IT AS I LOOKED FOR RECALL I FOUND THE PROBLEM FOR MY GAS TANK THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED TO IF YOU FILL THE CAR UP YOU CAN SMELL GAS NEED HELP TO FIX THIS
TOOK MY 2007 MERCEDES E350 TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER SMELLING GAS THE LAST FEW TIMES I FILLED UP. CRACK IN THE SEAM OF THE FUEL TANK. $3700!!!! HOW MUCH IS MERCEDES PAYING TO NOT HAVE A RECALL THIS IS BS. *TR
STRONG GASOLINE VAPORS INSIDE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT OF CAR AFTER FILLING UP WITH FUEL. STRONGEST IN REGION OF REAR SEAT. *TR
THE 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230 WITH 68,000 MILES HAS AFTER COMING TO A STOP - I WOULD PLACE FOOT ON ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR. IT WOULD BARELY MOVE. ON OTHER OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO AND THE VEHICLE RPM'S WOULD REV BEYOND NORMAL RPM'S. THIS COULD HAPPEN ALSO AT THIS COULD HAPPEN ALSO AT ANY SPEED I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY, AS I WAS TRYING TO ENTER INTO TRAFFIC TRYING TO ACCELERATE MY CAR WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED, AND THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 65 MPH. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE FOR A FEW MINUTES. ONLY AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE ACCELERATION IMPROVED. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE THREE TIMES NOW AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT ME AND MY FAMILY'S SAFETY, WHY HAS MERCEDES BENZ NOT INITIATED A RECALL. I HOPE THE COMPANY IS NOT WAITING FOR A DISASTER TO HAPPEN. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF NHTSA COULD PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE.

AS MANY HAVE FOUND, DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AT STOP AND GO, CAR OCCASIONALLY LOSES ACCELERATION AND RUNS AT HIGH RPM. ONLY AFTER EMERGENCY PULLING TO SAFETY AND SHUTTING OFF THE CAR DOES IT RESET. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT IN THE POWER TRAIN/SPEED SENSOR IN THIS MODEL AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
I BELIEVE THIS IS RELATED TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA13003. THERE APPEAR TO BE COMPLAINTS BY OTHERS AS WELL FOR THE 2007 C230 REGARDING THIS ISSUE. BASICALLY, WHENEVER I FILL UP MY TANK, I SMELL GAS OUTSIDE OF THE CAR, NOT INSIDE. THE SMELL SEEMS TO BE STRONGEST AT THE RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER MIRROR DOOR AREA NEAR THE HOOD OF THE CAR. THEN AFTER A GALLON OR TWO HAS BEEN USED, THE SMELL GOES AWAY. IT TOOK ME A WHILE TO REPRODUCE AND IDENTIFY THIS PATTERN BECAUSE I DON'T REFILL MY TANK ALL THAT OFTEN (I DRIVE ABOUT 2K MILES A YEAR.) I FIRST STARTED NOTICING THIS SMELL AROUND JUNE 2014 AFTER I HAD MY SPARK PLUGS REPLACED DUE TO THE RECOMMENDED AGE LIMITS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO THAT. SO I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY IDENTIFIED A LEAK AFTER I DESCRIBED MY PROBLEM. I HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN MERCEDES DUE TO A NUMBER OF ISSUES ON MY LOW MILEAGE CAR, THAT I STARTED RESEARCHING THIS IN GOOGLE AND DISCOVERED OTHER PEOPLE DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM OF FUEL ODOR WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. THIS LEAK ALSO CORROBORATES WHAT I HAVE NOTICED ON THE FUEL GAUGE; THE FUEL GAUGE DROPS FROM FULL TO 3/4 FULL AFTER DRIVING ABOUT ABOUT 25 MILES OR SO. THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT BECAUSE 25 MILES OR SO IS NOT EVEN 2 GALLONS OF FUEL, AND THE TANK HOLDS ABOUT 13 GALLONS, UNLESS THERE IS A LEAK. PLEASE SEE IF THE PROBLEM WHICH AFFECTED THE E CLASS MODELS FROM THE SAME TIME PERIOD IS AFFECTING THE C CLASS MODEL. THANK YOU.
CAR BEING DRIVEN BY MY 24-YEAR OLD SON WITH COMPLETELY CLEAN DRIVERS RECORD NEAR HIS BUTLER UNIVERSITY HE ATTENDS ON MAIN ROAD 38TH STREET, INDIANAPOLIS A FLAT STRETCH, AT 3:00 PM AT SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH AND 1.5 BLOCKS AHEAD NOTICING RED LIGHT WENT TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN AND THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED, FAILING TO STOP CAR, WHICH WENT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT AND INTO THE INTERSECTION INTO THE TRAFFIC. HE WAS ABLE TO DODGE AROUND THE FIRST CAR THAT WOULD HAVE T-BONED HIM AND SANDWICHED HIM AGAINST ANOTHER BUT COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK. VERY THANKFUL HIS INJURIES WERE NOT FATAL OR PERMANENT AND HE REMAINED CALM AND HANDLED THE CAR IN BEST POSSIBLE WAY. NO RED LIGHT ALERT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL AS TO ANYTHING BEING WRONG AND THIS CAR METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AT MERCEDES DEALERSHIP. WITNESSES SAID ALSO SAW SMOKE COMING FROM BRAKES. NO BRAKE FUNCTION AT ALL. BRAKES PERFECTLY NORMAL BEFOREHAND IN PREVIOUS DRIVING AND IN TRAVELING FROM HIS STUDENT HOUSE THAT DAY. *TR
AUGUST OF THIS YEAR I HAD TO GET A SPEED SENSOR REPLACED THAT COST ME $1200.00 BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH AND WAS RUNNING AT A HIGH RPM. THE VEHICLE DEMONSTRATED THIS PROBLEM OVER A YEAR BEFORE I ACTUALLY HAD TO TAKE IT INTO A REPAIR SHOP. I COULD USUALLY PULL OVER AND CUT THE CAR OFF AND CUT IT BACK ON AND IT WOULD CORRECT ITSELF WHICH WAS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. SOMETHING REALLY NEEDS TO BE DONE PERTAINING TO THE FAULTY PARTS USED TO BUILD THESE VEHICLES. I FEEL MY $1200.00 ALSO NEEDS TO BE REFUNDED BACK TO ME IN A CHECK FORM ASAP. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
BEFORE I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP I HAD EXPERIENCED THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES, ALL RESULTING IN MY CAR GETTING STUCK IN A GEAR. IF I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED MY CAR, EVERYTHING WOULD WORK FINE. I DID NOT HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ERROR, BUT I RAN THE CODE WITH MY OBDI CHECKER, AND RECEIVED AN ERROR IN REGARDS TO THE SPEED SENSOR. AFTER SOME RESEARCH OF THIS ISSUE, IT APPEARED TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS TYPE A CAR. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THE REPAIRS TOTALED $1450. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LOCAL SHOP STILL HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP AND GET THE PART PROGRAMMED (TOW TO DEALERSHIP $147 AND PROGRAMMING $211.20). SINCE THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD KNOWN ISSUE, WHY IS MERCEDES PROVIDING A REASONABLE REMEDY, THANK YOU. *TR
THE MERCEDES BENZ C230 WITH 69,000 MILES HAS AFTER COMING TO A STOP - I WOULD PLACE FOOT ON ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BARELY GET MOVING WOULD MOVE SLOWLY AND WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR. IT WOULD BARELY MOVE. ON OTHER OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO AND THE VEHICLE RPM'S WOULD REV BEYOND NORMAL RPM'S. THIS COULD HAPPEN ALSO AT ANY SPEED. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND THE FOLLOWING PARTS HAVE BEEN DEFECTIVE AND MERCEDES IS CONTROLLING THE USE OF THESE PARTS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEY HAVE AN UNSAFE DESIGN AND CAN PROVE TO BE HAZARDOUS TO DRIVERS.. I WENT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT A LOCAL VERY REPUTABLE THIRD PARTY DEALER AND MERCEDES BENZ WOULD NOT SELL THE NECESSARY REPAIR PARTS TO ANY NON MERCEDES DEALER. IT IS MY OPINION BASED ON READING ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE THAT THE TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSORS HAVE A FAULTY DESIGN AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY AND THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. I WOULD SUGGEST THAT THIS BE INVESTIGATED BY THE HIGHWAY SAFETY BOARD AND PROVIDE FOR A RECALL OF THESE ITEMS AND NOTIFY ALL OWNERS OF VEHICLES. MERCEDES BENZ IS AWARE THAT THEY BUILD A UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE POWER TRAIN FOR THIS VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
AFTER I FILL THE TANK UP WITH GASOLINE THE CAR SMELLS LIKE GAS! ESPECIALLY IN THE REAR ON THE INSIDE AND OUT. HUGE SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE. SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON WITH THIS YEAR AND SHOULD BE MADE A RECALL. FUEL VAPORS ARE UNHEALTHY TO BE BREATHING AND SHOULD NOT BE RELEASE INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. NOT TO MENTION MY GAS MILEAGE HAS DECREASED! IT SHOULD BE A RECALL AND NOT A "WEAR AND TEAR" ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR CANNOT EVEN REGISTER THE ISSUE NO CEL (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) APPEARS BUT YET THE FUEL IS OBVIOUSLY LEAKING. I READ INTO IT AND MANY PEOPLE SAY IT HAS TO DO WITH CRACKED HOUSINGS ON THE FUEL PUMP AND SENDER? PLEASE MAKE THIS A RECALL!! HUGER SAFETY CONCERN WHAT IF I CRASH AND THE CAR IGNITES FROM THE INSIDE!
MY TRANSMISSION BECAME STUCK IN A HIGH GEAR AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. COULD NOT MANUALLY CHANGE GEARS AND THE ONLY WAY TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE WAS TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE CAR. I HAD TO USE MY HAZARD FLASHERS AND DRIVE IN TRAFFIC FOR A FEW MILES UNTIL I COULD GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND TROUBLESOME TO ME. WHILE DRIVING MY CAR ON SUNDAY (8 JUNE 2014), MY 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C230 LOST ACCELERATION AND THE CAR WOULDN'T GET OUT OF FIRST GEAR AND THE RPM'S WERE RUNNING HIGH. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF HOPING TO RESET THE CAR TO THAT I COULD GET BACK HOME. ONCE I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND SET FOR A FEW MINUTES IT THEN WORKED WITH NO PROBLEM. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME THIG HAS HAPPEN TO THE CAR. *JS

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION LOST POWER AND WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
EVER SINCE I HAVE PURCHASED MY MERCEDES BENZ C230- 2007 MODEL, I HAVE BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINING IT AS PER MERCEDES RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS. RECENTLY I EXPERIENCED AN UNEXPECTED TRANSMISSION ISSUE IN MY CAR. THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING AT A SPEED OF 65 MPH. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE FOR A FEW MINUTES. ONLY AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE, THE ACCELERATION IMPROVED. MY QUESTION IS THAT IF THIS IS A KNOWN SAFETY RELATED ISSUE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED TO MERCEDES BENZ USA, LLC. SEVERAL TIMES, WHY HAS MERCEDES BENZ NOT INITIATED A RECALL. THERE IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURE DEFECT IN THE M272 ENGINE. THE ENGINE BALANCE SHAFT SPROCKET WAS MADE OF SOFT METAL WHICH CAUSES THE DRIVE SPROCKET TO WEAR PREMATURELY. THIS WEAR CAUSES THE TIMING OF THE ENGINE TO BECOME OFF, WHICH THEN CAUSES THE CAR TO AUTOMATICALLY GO INTO LIMP MODE. IN LIMP MODE, THE CAR SUDDENLY CANNOT BE DRIVEN OVER 20 MPH AND THE ENGINE HAS TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED TO EXIT LIMP MODE. I APPROACHED A MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP AND THE ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR WAS OVER $7,000! THIS ENGINE DEFECT CAUSES THE CAR TO GO INTO LIMP MODE AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MERCEDES BENZ C-280.THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THE RIGHT INTAKE CAM SHAFT MAGNET AND THE THERMOSTAT WAS REPLACED. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 50 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE BALANCE SHAFT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE.
FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE DRIVING, CAR WOULD NO LONGER OPERATE. HAD VERY BAD HEADACHES FOR ABOUT A WEEK LEADING UP TO THE PUMP FAILURE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR. *TR
I PURCHASED MERCEDES BENZ C230, 2007 FROM THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP, AND IN A WEEK THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT BACK THE CAR TO ITS SERVICE DIVISION AND IT SAID THAT CODE WAS A PROBLEM. THEY DID SOMETHING AND THE LIGHT WENT OFF FOR A WEEK. THEN, I RETURNED TO THEIR SERVICE CENTER AGAIN AND THEY SAID THAT FUEL WAS NOT BEING SUPPLIED EVENLY IN THE ENGINE. SUGGESTED TO GO TO THE MERCEDES SERVICE CENTER. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP IN MARION, IL. THEY TURNED OF THE LIGHT BY UPDATING COMPUTER PROGRAM. HOWEVER, IN A WEEK THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I PURCHASED IT ON MARCH 31, 2014. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND SEAL WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,610.

THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS FORM TAKEOFF ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO REV WITHOUT ENGAGING. I AM CONCERNED THAT A VEHICLE WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE WOULD EXHIBIT SUCH ISSUES. AFTER READING ABOUT THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND MERCEDES RESPONSE TO CUSTOMERS, ONE WOULD CONCLUDE THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY DESIGN. CASE IN POINT, MERCEDES WILL NOT ALLOW THE FAULTY PART TO BE REBUILT. THEY REQUIRE THAT THE PART IS REPLACED WITH A "NEW" PART FROM THE FACTORY. AGAIN, ONE IS ONLY LEFT TO CONCLUDE THAT THEY ARE COVERING UP THE FAILURE BY NOT ALLOWING THE PART TO BE REBUILT IN THE FIELD. SURELY, IF IT WERE A MAINTENANCE ISSUE THEY WOULD HAVE REBUILD KITS AVAILABLE. HOWEVER, THEIR SOLUTION IS TO BURY THE EXPENSE AND HIDE THE PROBLEM LEAVING CUSTOMERS TO BEAR THE ENTIRE BURDEN OF REPAIRING A FAULTY DESIGN. THE SERVICE REPORT SHOWS ALL ENGINE RELATED CHECKS ARE GREEN/GOOD EXCEPT FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT READING BALANCE SHAFT REPLACEMENT REQUIRED. I DRIVE OVER 100 INTERSTATE MILES DAILY SO THE WARRANTY IS EXCEEDED QUICKLY.
