The airbag headrests opened up randomly without being involved in an accident!
My car had the Takata airbags that were recalled. It says the recalls were repaired but my vehicle is saying that the driver-side airbag has malfunctioned. I haven't been in any accidents. So I contacted Mercedes and they could not find verification that the previous open recalls were ever fixed.
When I was driving, the passenger active headrest suddenly deployed and pop out. I’m glad on one was on the passenger seat, and the airbags did not deployed. I’m concerned about the safety of airbags accidentally deploy in the future with the broken headrest.

NO POLICE REPORT HAD BEEN FILED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V177000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AIR BAGS) COMPLETED PREVIOUSLY ON THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER MERCEDES-BENZ OF MASSAPEQUA LOCATED AT 101 SUNRISE HWY, AMITYVILLE, NY 11701, (631) 213-2023, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING 2 FRONT HEADREST TO BE REPLACED AND TO REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONICALLY SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

WE HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE THE START OF THE NHTSA RECALL OF MERCEDES-BENZ C300S FOR FAULTY AIRBAGS FOR THE APPROPRIATE REPLACEMENT. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN ABOUT TWO YEARS SINCE WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST NOTICE. LAST WEEK WE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM OUR DEALERSHIP THAT THE PART WAS IN AND THAT WE SHOULD SCHEDULE OUR FREE REPAIR. HOWEVER, TODAY, WHEN MY HUSBAND BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE HE WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME AND THE PURPOSE OF THIS EMAIL IS TO INFORM NHTSA THAT MBUSA AND MB OF MIAMI ARE CONTINUING TO FULFILL THEIR OBLIGATIONS UNDER FEDERAL AUTO SAFETY LAWS. WE ARE BOTH DISGUSTED BY THE LENGTH OF TIME THIS PROCESS HAS TAKEN AND WE WANT SOMETHING TO BE DONE TO ENSURE THAT OUR CAR'S AIRBAG SYSTEM IS PROPERLY REPAIRED.
TAKATA RECALL: I WENT TO MERCEDES IN PARAMUS, NJ TO COMPLETE THE RECALL ON THE AIRBAGS TO MY VEHICLE.. THE SERVICE REP STATED THAT BECAUSE I HAVE AN SRS LIGHT ON IN MY VEHICLE THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY $160.00 (DISCOUNTED FROM THE $299.00) IN ORDER TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, THEN CORRECT THAT SITUATION (OUT OF MY POCKET) BEFORE THEY CAN COMPLETE THE RECALL... THE FUNNY PART IS THAT THE SRS LIGHT IS FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM WHICH ARE MY AIR BAGS!!! I HAVE HAD THE SRS LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE SINCE I BOUGHT HE CAR WHICH HAS BEEN 9 YEARS! OF COARSE MERCEDES IS TRYING TO CHARGE ME SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY FIGURE 'WHY SPEND SO MANY HOURS OF FREE LABOR ON A VEHICLE THAT IS 10 YEARS OLD' I ACTUALLY EXPECTED THIS OUTCOME!
