THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CAME BACK OUT AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE FRONT WHEELS WERE LOCKED. THE KEY WENT IN AND TURNED. THE LIGHTS AND POWER WAS THERE BUT, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE FRONT WHEELS WERE LOCKED AND SO WAS THE DRIVE SHIFTER. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND MY WIFE WAS LEFT STRANDED. THE SECOND TIME WAS IN OUT DRIVEWAY. WE CAME HOME TO GET SOMETHING AND WHEN WE WENT OUT IT WOULDN'T START.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES BENZ C300. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, WHEN "THE REAR PASSENGER BRAKE AND SIGNAL WAS FAILURE" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HAD THE REAR PASSENGER LIGHT PLUGS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED A WEEK LATER THE REAR PASSENGER LIGHT PLUGS WERE MELTED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V177000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING), HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 212,000.
NOTICED A RECALL FOR THIS PART
ON JULY 2, 2020 HAD A BRAKE JOB DONE. WHILE DOING BRAKE JOB IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE REAR SUB FRAME WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN FREE FROM THE FRONT MOUNTING BOLTS ON BOTH SIDES ( LEAVING ONLY THE 2 REAR MOUNT BOLTS TO HOLD THE ENTIRE SUBFRAME, DIFFERENTIAL, AXLES, ROTORS, CALIPERS, AND REAR WHEELS). CALLED MERCEDES USA TO ASK ABOUT WARRANTY CLAIM AND THEY SAID NO. THIS SUB FRAME WAS BROKEN IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT ON BOTH SIDES. I WOULD THINK THAT THIS ISSUE IS A PART DEFECT, OR AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FAULT. MERCEDES SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR OF THIS CONDITION WHICH IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE.
MY 2008 C300 HAD THE RIGHT TAIL BREAK LIGHT + REAR RIGHT TURN SIGNAL LIGHT ERROR MESSAGE THESE FEW DAYS, I REPLACE THE LIGHT BULBS WHICH DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM THEN I FOUND THE BROWN WIRE AT CONNECTOR MELT BADLY, I GOOGLE THIS ISSUE ON THE WEB AND FOUND ALL 2008/2009 MERCEDEZ C CLASS HAS THE SAME ISSUE, CAN WE GET A RECALL TO FIX IT ON THIS ?
I HAVE BEEN TAKING MY VEHICLE REGULARLY TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. I HAVE NOT ONCE HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL THIS TIME. DURING THE RAINSTORMS MY VEHICLE LEAKED THROUGH THE SUNROOF AND THE PASSENGER FRONT AND BACK SIDE GOT FLOODED. FILED AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY CAME BACK AND SAID WE DON'T COVER WEARS AND TEARS OF SEALS THROUGH THE SUNROOF. THE VEHICLE RIGHT NOW IS AT THE COLLISION SHOP AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW IF THE WHOLE SUNROOF NEEDS TO BE CHANGED OR THE SEAL. THEY DON'T WANT TO CHECK BECAUSE OF LIABILITY ISSUES. CALLED THE DEANSHIP AND ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAID NO. MY ONLY CONCERN IS IF THE VEHICLE IS BEING SERVICED FOR A FULL INSPECTION WHY DIDN'T THE DEANSHIP ONCE MENTIONED ABOUT THE SUNROOF SEALS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AT LEAST THIS MANY TIMES IN THIS MANY YEARS. THE INSURANCE COMPANY IS TELLING ME THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THIS AND HAS TO GIVE A LIST OF ITEMS THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED IN THIS MANY YEARS. NOW I HAVE TO COME UP WITH WHATEVER THE COST IS GOING TO BE OUT OF MY POCKET DURING THIS PANDEMIC TIMES. IF IT LEAKS AGAIN THEN I WILL NOT HAVE A VEHICLE TO GO TO WORK. NO WORK NO FOOD FOR MY FAMILY. JUST TRYING THE GET AS MUCH AS HELP AS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU.
TOOK CAR IN FOR AIRBAG RECALL, WEEK LATER THE CAR WONT UNLOCK, HAD TO PAY $50 TO GET IN, WAS TOLD BATTERY HAD 12.4 AMPS, CAR WONT TURN OVER, ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS NOT ENGAGING, ALARM GOES OFF, REPLACED BATTERY $160CHECKED FUSES AND BOUGHT $25, NOTHING NOW HAVING TO TOW BACK TO MERCEDES BENZ OF CHANDLER THAT DID MY "RECALLS" OUT OF POCKET. THE RECALL SERVICE MESSED IT UP. THE EXACT THING AS IN COMPLAINT 212.
I HAVE A MB C300 2008 THE CAR NEVER HAD AN ISSUE UNTIL I BROUGHT IT IN FOR A AIRBAG RECALL 2 WEEKS LATER I GET AN SRS MALFUNCTION, ESP AND ABS FAILURE CAR DOESNT TURN ON NEXT DAY THE CAR TURNS ON AND ENGINE LIGHT GOES ON, THEN LIGHTS STAYED ON EVEN AFTER CAR WAS OFF NEXT DAY LIGHTS WENT OFF WHILE DRIVING IN DARK MAKING FOR HAZARDOUS AND QUITE SCARY SITUATION MB IS DOING THESE RECALLS BUT JEOPARDIZING THE OVERALL INTEGRITY OF CAR I EVEN REPLACED BATTERY BUT THIS STILL OCCURRED CAR WAS RENDERED UNDRIVABLE AND STUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND PAY $380 JUST TO LOOK AT IT EVEN THOUGH I TOLD THEM THEY CAUSED DAMAGE THERE IS NO WAY A PERFECTLY RUNNING CAR COINCIDENTALLY HAS MAJOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES POST RECALL (THEY REPLACED ENTIRE STASH BOARD AND STEERING WHEEL COVER)
THE TAIL LIGHTS ARE SHORTING OUT. A BURNING SMELL IS EMINATING FROM THE WIRES. THE DASHBOARD MESSAGES ARE FLASHING VARIOUS PROBLEMS I.E. REAR TAIL LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, ETC. FIRST IT INDICATES LEFT SIDE THEN IT INDICATES THE RIGHT SIDE HAS THE PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY OR ROLLING. THE ENGINE IS ON.
ELECTRICAL FAULT IN 2008 C300 MERCEDES IN FRONT SAM MODULE HAS WATER INTRUSION FROM WINDSHIELD WATER DRAIN NEXT TO DRIVER SIDE FUSE PANEL/ SAM. WATER INTRUSION CAUSED CUSTOMERS VEHICLE TO DIE WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSED ESL STEERING LOCK TO LOCK STEERING COLUMN AND IGNITION KEY ESI TO LOSE COMMUNICATION WITH LOW VOLTAGE CODES. DASH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ONLY COMES ON WHEN OPENING THE DOOR AND BCM BECOMES ACTIVE. NO RESPONSE FROM IGNITION AND DRIVER ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHEN STEERING LOCKED DURING MALFUNCTION/ POWER PROBLEMS. DRIVER HAD VEHICLE TOWED WITH STEERING LOCKED IN A LEFT TURN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES BENZ C350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, SEVERAL ELECTRICAL FAILURES HAD OCCURRED AND ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY FUSE. NO FURTHER INFORMATION WAS AVAILABLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAD STOPPED WORKING AND THE SRS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES WERE NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER PLAZA MERCEDES BENZ LOCATED AT 11910 OLIVE BLVD, CREVE COEUR, MO 63141 AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

NO POLICE REPORT HAD BEEN FILED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V177000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, AIR BAGS) COMPLETED PREVIOUSLY ON THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER MERCEDES-BENZ OF MASSAPEQUA LOCATED AT 101 SUNRISE HWY, AMITYVILLE, NY 11701, (631) 213-2023, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING 2 FRONT HEADREST TO BE REPLACED AND TO REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONICALLY SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

I WORK AT A MERCEDES DEALERSHIP AND WE ARE STARTING TO SEE THE REAR CRADLES RUSTING COMPLETELY OUT, CAUSE STRUT LINKS TO COME LOOSE FROM THE CRADLE CAUSING BRAKE AND DRIVABILITY PROBLEMS, THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY MBUSA , TO THIS DATE WE HAVE HAD 5 CARS WITH THIS CONDITION IN THE LAST 6 MONTH OR SO

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SHE WOULD BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTICED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.
AFTER DRIVING COMPLETELY NORMALLY FOR OVER 30 MINUTES, I PARKED IN A LOT AND STEPPED OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT ISSUE TO RUN AN ERRAND. AFTER GETTING BACK INTO THE CAR ONLY 5 MINUTES LATER, THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THERE WAS NO NOISE, JUST AN MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY: "REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION". NO OTHER LIGHTS CAME UP. THE KEY COULD TURN, BUT NOTHING ELSE HAPPEN. AFTER DETERMINING THAT IT WAS NOT A BATTERY OR ENGINE ISSUE, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP THAT DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK, WHICH CAUSED THE NO START CONDITION. THIS WAS A SUDDEN FAILURE WITH NO WARNINGS, LEAVING DRIVER AND PASSENGERS COMPLETELY IMMOBILE. DEALERSHIP IS CHARGING OVER $1600 FOR REPLACEMENT, CITING THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL.

ISSUE: PARKED VEHICLE FAILED TO START. STEERING LOCKED. SHIFTER LOCKED. SUDDEN FAILURE, NO WARNINGS. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER DIAGNOSTIC: ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK (ESL) FAILED. AFFECTED P/N: 204-545-81-32. SPECIAL NOTES: (1) CAR MAINTAINED BY DEALER. OEM PARTS PURCHASED FROM DEALER. (2) THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME PART IS REPLACED BY THE DEALER ON THIS VEHICLE. LAST REPLACED IN 2012. (3) CONTACTED MB CUSTOMER CARE (CASE MANAGER) TO SHARE CONCERN. IMMEDIATELY STATED: "NOT A SAFETY CONCERN." WE HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE THE START OF THE NHTSA RECALL OF MERCEDES-BENZ C300S FOR FAULTY AIRBAGS FOR THE APPROPRIATE REPLACEMENT. I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN ABOUT TWO YEARS SINCE WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST NOTICE. LAST WEEK WE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM OUR DEALERSHIP THAT THE PART WAS IN AND THAT WE SHOULD SCHEDULE OUR FREE REPAIR. HOWEVER, TODAY, WHEN MY HUSBAND BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE HE WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME AND THE PURPOSE OF THIS EMAIL IS TO INFORM NHTSA THAT MBUSA AND MB OF MIAMI ARE CONTINUING TO FULFILL THEIR OBLIGATIONS UNDER FEDERAL AUTO SAFETY LAWS. WE ARE BOTH DISGUSTED BY THE LENGTH OF TIME THIS PROCESS HAS TAKEN AND WE WANT SOMETHING TO BE DONE TO ENSURE THAT OUR CAR'S AIRBAG SYSTEM IS PROPERLY REPAIRED.

THE SERVICE REP STATED THAT BECAUSE I HAVE AN SRS LIGHT ON IN MY VEHICLE THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY $160.00 (DISCOUNTED FROM THE $299.00) IN ORDER TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, THEN CORRECT THAT SITUATION (OUT OF MY POCKET) BEFORE THEY CAN COMPLETE THE RECALL... THE FUNNY PART IS THAT THE SRS LIGHT IS FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM WHICH ARE MY AIR BAGS!!! I HAVE HAD THE SRS LIGHT ON MY VEHICLE SINCE I BOUGHT HE CAR WHICH HAS BEEN 9 YEARS! OF COARSE MERCEDES IS TRYING TO CHARGE ME SOMETHING BECAUSE THEY FIGURE 'WHY SPEND SO MANY HOURS OF FREE LABOR ON A VEHICLE THAT IS 10 YEARS OLD' I ACTUALLY EXPECTED THIS OUTCOME! I GOT OUT OF MY VEHICLE TO STOP AT AN ATM WHEN I GOT BACK INTO MY PARKED CAR IT WOULD NOT START. NONE OF THE DIAGNOSTICS WORKED. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK STOPPED WORKING. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THE C300.

CAR WILL NOT START AFTER DIVING. POWER FROM BATTERY IS GOOD. DOOR STILL LOCK AND UNLOCK. THIS PARTICLUAF BRAND HAS ISSUE WITH ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCKING AND LEAVING CAR MOBILELESS. CANNOT PLACE CAR IN NEAUTRAL FOR TOWING.
TRANSFER CASE RESEAL. I HAVE A 2008 C300 I BOUGHT WITH 56K MILES ON IT, I HAD TO HAVE THE WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. WHEN THIS SERVICE TOOK PLACE, I WAS INFORMED THAT I NEED TO HAVE MY TRANSFER CASE RESEALED AND THE CAM SHAFT MAGNETS REPLACED. THIS CAR HAS SUCH LOW MILES ON IT. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS NEEDED AT THIS TIME. I HAVE SEEN ON MANY BOARDS, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. WHY HASN'T MB RECALLED THIS YET? IT APPEARS THE 2008 MODEL IS PLAGUED WITH PROBLEMS AS I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING LOCK AS WELL AS IT FAILED. AGAIN, COMMON PROBLEM AND NOT RECALL. I NOW HAVE A SEATBELT SENSOR THAT FAULTY. ALL OF THIS BEFORE I HAVE EVEN HIT 100K. MY 2001 ML IS WELL OVER 200K AND I HAVE NEVER HAD THESE ISSUES WITH THE ML.

NOW ON 9/12/18 AT 3:00PM I DROPPED MY CAR OFF FOR THE RECALL, THEN THEY STATED THAT THEY WILL DO IT, THEN MAGICALLY MY STEERING WHEEL COLUMN LOCKED AND CHARGED ME 1100 DOLLARS TO FIX IT WITHOUT FIXING ME RECALL BECAUSE THEY STATED THAT THE SEATBELT BUCKLE WAS FAULTY AND THEY NEED TO FIX THAT AND CHARGE ME 400 DOLLARS BEFORE THEY CAN FIX RECALL. MY 2008 MERCEDES BENZ 300C STARTED THEN SHUT OFF IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD THE CAR LESS THAN 30 DAYS FROM PURCHASE. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HE CAME AND DID SOMETHING TO THE FUSE BAND IT START ED. NEXT DAY SAME THING, STARTED THEN SHUT OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC, IT TOOK HIM TWO WEEKS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT. HE NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE IGNITION SWITCH. HOWEVER, HE WANT AUTHORIZED TO ACCESS THE IGNITION, SO IT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CAME BACK AFTER 2 WEEKS AND SAID IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP. FINE, I PAID A LITTLE OVER $1K FOR THE DESPAIR. I GO TO PICK IT UP THEN I'M TOLD IT SHUT OFF. THIS IS AFTER A FULL DIAGNOSTIC TEST. MIND YOU, MY MECHANIC CALLED THE REP AT MERCEDES BENZ AND TOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUES WAS AND THEY IGNORED IT. FAST FORWARD, I TELL THEM IN MY FRUSTRATION TO GO AND FIX THE CAR. I GET A QUOTE OF 878, AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T CHARGE FOR LABOR, PARTS ONLY. THEY CLAIM THE PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED FROM GERMANY. TWO WEEKS LATER, A FULL MONTH AND A HALF OF WAITING FOR MY CAR, THE DEALER TELLS ME THE COST IS NOW 1919. LUDICROUS! THEY CLAIM THAT I NEEDED A KEY, THAT MY KEY WASN'T WORKING. WHAT? MY KEY WAS WORKING JUST FINE. THE C300 IGNITION ISSUES ARE OVERWHELMING AND NEED TO BE RECALLED. BUYER BEWARE!
THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AND DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND HAD TO JUMP START IT. I DROVE THE CAR TO HAVE THE BATTERY REPLACED THINKING THAT WAS IT. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE GARAGE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AS THE DEALERSHIP WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR.

I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MERCEDES DATED DECEMBER 2017 INDICATING THE PARTS FOR MY CAR SHOULD BE IN BY MARCH 31,2018. THIS IS ONLY COMMUNICATION I RECEIVED. I CALLED ON APRIL 25, 2018 AND TODAY JULY 30,2018. STILL NO REPLACEMENT FOR MY CAR. I WAS INFORMED THAT NHTSA WAS CONTROLLING WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE SENT ON MY CAR.

THE ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK MECHANISM FAILED, LOCKING THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH PREVENTED IGNITION AND THE ABILITY TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO MANUAL FOR TOWING. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED ON A PUBLIC ROADWAY IN ORDER TO ASSIST A LOST CHILD. AFTER THE POLICE ARRIVED TO ASSIST, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART, PUSHED, OR MOVED FURTHER OFF OF THE ROAD. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS REPAIR IS A COMMON COMPLAINT ON 2008 C300 CARS AND THE OEM PARTS WERE PART OF A BAD BATCH OF SUPPLIER PARTS.
