The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E-350. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V918000 (Visibility). The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The contact informed the dealer that the sunroof had not been used in 10 years. In addition, the contact informed the dealer of an issue while attempting to close the sunroof ten years ago. The vehicle was not inspected, and the dealer declined the recall repair. The contact was informed that if the recall repair was performed and the sunroof fractured, the vehicle owner would be responsible for the repair. The contact was unsure if the previous sunroof issue was with the vehicle or a previous vehicle that the contact had owned. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to an alternate dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable.
2008 MercedesE350 (W211) Driver’s seat heater, ~11:48am Location: Lidl Parking Lot, 2017 St. Joseph’s Dr., Bowie/Upper Marlboro, MD While I was sitting in the driver’s seat with my back fully against it, the seat heater burned through the leather on the left side of the seat. The cabin immediately filled with smoke. The burning stopped only after I turned off the seat‑heater button. I was inside the vehicle during the failure, and the situation created a direct fire hazard; the seat could have ignited, and I could have caught fire. I don’t know if the passenger seat heater is also affected, so passengers cannot safely use their seat warmer. No warning lamps, messages, or symptoms pre failure. Evidence Available: Video/photo of the aftermath (burned seat left‑side damage), the vehicle and damaged seat are available for inspection. Smoke in video/photo. Has the Problem Been Reproduced or Confirmed?: I’ve not attempted to reproduce the problem for safety reasons, and it has not yet been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. However, publicly available information shows Mercedes previously settled a $54 million class action for the same seat‑heater defect in model years prior to 2008. My 2008 model was not included despite experiencing the same dangerous failure. Mercedes is aware this is a known issue.Has the Vehicle Been Inspected?: A dealership inspection at Mercedes‑Benz of Alexandria scheduled 12/23/23 at 11:00 a.m. Warning Lamps or Prior Symptoms: None. Safety Risk Summary: This defect created immediate danger to my safety. The heater burned through the seat while I was sitting in it, filling cabin with smoke and creating a risk of burn injury and the possibility that I could have caught fire. The defect may also endanger passengers if both seats are affected. Broader Concern: Prevent others from experiencing defect, causing serious injury/vehicle fire. Limits safe use of vehicle for self and passengers. Plus Mercedes is aware. Can’t upload video.
While driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350 on 5/21/2025 around 1:50pm, the transmission suddenly failed while I was traveling at approximately 75 mph was on highway 76. As a result of the failure, the driver's side airbag deployed unexpectedly.
The trunk safety release inside the trunk will not open the trunk. It is an electrical switch and not a cable pull release. If you get in the trunk and the battery is low, you cannot get out. There is not a passage between the rear seat and the trunk. There is not a manual release for the trunk. The only way to get inside is cutting through the trunk lid or deck.

This is a PZEV vehicle. When the car is filled over 3/4th of the way, the driver's side near the back tire starts to leak the fuel. There was no warning lights, just the smell and the leaks. It's obvious why this is a safety hazard. This was not inspected by anyone other than myself as it was quite obvious after removing the back seat and accessing the sending unit location. This started after I resolved a fuel pump issue (back in March, resolved this month) Mercedes refused to handle ($3k) and noticed on or around 9/24/24.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that the vehicle was recently repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V918000 (Visibility). The contact called the dealer several times but was unable to speak with the Service Manager. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,876.
On [XXX] I was driving and the vehicles stalled in the middle of the street, I couldn’t start it back. I managed to contact AAA and had the vehicle towed to my home because it around 6pm and auto repair shops were closed. Next morning I had AAA towed the vehicle to a local auto repair shop and they told me that fuel pump failed. It would have been very dangerous if we were driving on the freeway, not to mention I had my 85 year old mother in the passenger seat. Please help me as I am sure what I need to do now. It’s a Mercedes-Benz model E350 2008. I can be reached at [XXX] my name is [XXX] . My car has 87,200 miles. Thank you in advance for all your helps. I filled the vehicle up with gas and it started smelling very strong of gas for the next two weeks and I discovered gas underneath the driver's rear seat... I cleaned up the gas but continued to smell strong fuel Vapors and I'm just below three quarters of a tank the 15-year warranty is over. The Mercedes dealer says that they can't do anything for free and I feel this is a safety issue that needs to be rectified before someone dies in an explosion... no warning lights showed up but it is a common problem on the E-Class due to a cracked fuel filter housing module.
Smell of gasoline in the cabin and real bad outside of car
panoramic sunroof stuck will not close. generally dealer purportedly recalled select vehicles acknowledging issue, however oem states this particular vin is not included in recall, not making any sense, if they acknowledge problem but decline to resolve for others

The panaramic sunroof had gotten stuck open and gears or something are not engaging at times, sounds like motor grinds and the sunroof slips off track and closed unevenly. Will not open back up.

Very strong gas smell both inside and outside of the car with check engine light on. This happened in May of 2022. Could not park the car inside the garage. Contacted MBUSA, they said there is an extended warranty for this vehicle for this problem, advised me to take it to Mercedes dealer. I took the car to the dealer. They checked it out and said it is not covered under the extended warranty because it has passed the mileage ceiling for PZEV which I do not know what PZEV is. I checked The NHTSA website, it says 15 years unlimited miles. I had no other choice but to fix the car at the dealer and pay for the cost. A few months later MBUSA sent me a letter telling me although it has passed the mileage I might be eligible for a refund and wanted me to file a claim at the dealership. I did and after over two months the dealer again told me it is not covered. I paid about $1100 for the repair and told MBUSA that the dealer does not honor what the MBUSA letter says. Now even MBUSA does not honor what they wrote me in their own letter. They say if my car was non PZEV it would have been covered? How was it my fault to have a PZEV vehicle? Why did Mercedes had PZEV and non PZEV? How is it the customer fault. Both vehicles have the same issue but why one is covered and the other is not? Please you be the judge.
My car has smelled like gas for the past few years. Also it has not past inspection for the past 2 years. Mercedes said it was due to a defective intake manifold. Paid to replace the intake manifold and Mercedes said 2 new codes appeared. Now the gas tank, fuel pumps, brackets and hoses need to be replaced at a cost of of over 3500. The fuel pumps were replaced in 2014. Not sure why I continue to have problems with fuel pumps and now gas tank. Was informed this year after replacing the intake manifold that there was an extended warranty that concluded December 2022. I think Mercedes should resolve this as other vehicles had this same safety issue.
The seal that connects the fuel level sensor to the fuel tank has failed, allowing fuel to leak onto the top of the tank when it’s filled. This creates a serious risk of fire or explosion. Unfortunately, Mercedes does not offer a remedy unless you pay a prohibitively high fee.
2008 V6 Engine Cam Shaft will worn out and check engine light comes on can unable to pass smog for registration renewal. The cost to replace the worn Engine Cam Shaft is about $4-$6K. It is not acceptable to the manufacture to design the vehicle can can have the major part worn out about 100K mile with good maintain of services and regular Service A-D and oil change.
I drove a short distance and started to smell burning, and saw some smoke in the cabin. I immediately pulled over and shut down the car. I called my husband and when he arrived we discovered that my driver's seat back had burned through from the seat heater. Luckily I was not injured and the burning did not spread, I assume because I was able to stop quickly and get out.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E320. The contact stated while driving 30 MPH, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. On another occasion while driving 30 MPH, the contact stated that he noticed smoking coming from the front of the vehicle with an abnormal odor coming from the vehicle. The contact was able to pull over and examine the vehicle but found no failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, the contact was unsure what needed to be repaired; but the contact stated that the failure was with the engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000.
In the fall of 2021 the car started to received errors related to the ABS control unit that failed preventing 1) antilock braking, control of ESP (limiting poor handling), and cruise control. At the time of the failure, the car only had 31,552 miles and was properly maintained. MB has extended a warranty for several models and years...but even though my 2008 E-Class is not included in the warranty extension, several models (thru 2012) had their warranty extended for 25 years. I have not been able to get a answer why the E-Class after 2006 was excluded. The symptoms and parts diagnosed match the warranty 100%.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that while approaching a stop, she heard a roaring sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle then stalled without warning. The vehicle failed to restart. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rear differential had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 71,888.
The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked the contact heard a hissing noise coming from the vehicle. The contact noticed the rear suspension on the driver's side was deflated sitting very low to the ground. The contact stated when they entered the vehicle to turn it on they received an error message on the display console stating the vehicle too low to drive. A few weeks prior to the failure the contact had the vehicle repaired by a local dealer for the rear suspension toe link and is concerned the failure that occurred on the vehicle is related to that repair. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 155,000.
The panoramic roof gets stuck in open position and makes the car dangerous for flying objects into the car also I feel more dangerous for my safety and for life. In my car we have repaired the roof several times, again now the roof is stuck in open position. I believe this should be a factory recall issue as this is very marginal and poor design to result in failure so often
Smell Heavy gas smell inside of the vehicle but not in the engine bay. Stronger smell in the back seat. Afraid car my catch fire while driving. Having to drive with windows down so i don't get droggy.

UPON FILLING UP MY GAS TANK THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. THIS BECOMES REALLY BAD WHEN PARKED IN MY GARAGE. WE HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN SO WANT TO SOLVE THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
My car displayed all of the issues listed below for the Electrical system recall. The fuel gague went "blank", other gagues acting irradical, the check engine light stay on, etc. My car make and model fall under this recall but have been excluded. I had to pay out of pocket $4678.50 to replace the entire fuel tank due to this and the Manufacture (Mercedes Benz) is refusing to reimburse me. (1) THE FUEL GAUGE READINGS MAY BE INCORRECT; (2) A STUCK FUEL-LEVEL SENSOR MAY NOT BE DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER; (3) THE OBD SYSTEM MAY CAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE INCORRECTLY; AND, (4) THE SPEEDOMETER MAY BE OUT OF TOLERANCE. IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE ELECTRICAL FUEL PUMP MAY NOT RECEIVE A CRASH SIGNAL THAT IS REQUIRED FOR THE FUEL PUMP TO DISCONNECT AND PREVENT FUTURE FUEL DELIVERY AS DESIGNED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON REFUELING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WOULD SMELL A STRONG GASOLINE ODOR. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUTOFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT INITIALLY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED THAT CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. DESPITE THE REPAIR, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. AFTER THE SECOND FAILURE, THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY FOR A DEFECTIVE FUEL PUMP. THE MANUFACTURER THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF BURLINGTON (80 CAMBRIDGE ST, BURLINGTON, MA 01803) WHERE THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THE HAD A DEFECTIVE FUEL TANK AND FUEL PUMP THAT BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT SINCE HIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER QUALIFIED UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V303000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED AND REMAINED IN THE DEALER POSSESSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 128,000. ## VIN PASSED ## 2008 MERCEDES BENZ E350 ##
STRONG FUEL ODOR AFTER TOPPING OFF. I DROVE THE VEHICLE AND IT STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND STALLED ON THE ROAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED IN THE MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACK HEATER BURNED THROUGH THE SEAT COVER. AT THE TIME OF DISCOVERY, THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING AND THERE WAS A BURNING SMELL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, I DISCOVERED THE HOLE IN THE SEAT. THERE WAS A SIMILAR ISSUE INVOLVING 2000-2007 M-CLASS, 2006-2007 R-CLASS, AND 2007 GL-CLASS MODELS WHICH WAS SETTLED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT CALLAWAY V. MERCEDES BENZ. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS OR ACKNOWLEDGMENT BY MERCEDES BENZ FOR ANY VEHICLES WITH THE SIMILAR DEFECT/HAZARD SUBSEQUENT TO 2007. MY VEHICLE IS A 2008 MERCEDES E-CLASS. WHILE MERCEDES REPAIRED MY SEAT AT NO CHARGE, THEY UNLAWFULLY, IN MY OPINION, REQUIRED I SIGN A RELEASE PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF REPAIRS.
INFORMED BY A MERCEDES BENZ DEALER THAT MY SRS IS NOT FUNCTIONING CORRECT. AND THAT THE AIR BAGS COULD DEPLOY UPON MINOR/LIGHT IMPACT. SRS LIGHT IS DISPLAYED!!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES-BENZ E350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO A CONCRETE STRUCTURE. DURING THE CRASH THE FRONT END SUSTAINED SEVERE DAMAGED BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED AN INJURED STERNUM WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE MEDICAL TREATMENT. THE FRONT PASSENGER WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THE FAILURE HAD ALSO OCCURRED ON A PREVIOUS OCCASION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
AT LOW SPEED , COMING OUT OF A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT, CAR WENT INTO SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WITHOUT ANY WARNING. FULLY PRESSING ON THE BRAKE FAILED TO SLOW OR STOP THE CAR. WITH THE BRAKE NOT WORKING AND THE CAR ACCELERATING VERY FAST THE CAR BECAME OUT OF CONTROL UNTIL IT CRASHED WITH A LARGE ROCK /BOULDER WHEN IT STOPPED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE THE THE WHOLE FRONT HALF OF THE CAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED IN. I SUSTAINED A SIGNIFICANT BRUISES OF MY BREAST BONE AND ADJOINING RIBS. I AM STILL IN PAIN. THIS SAME EXACT MALFUNCTION WITH THIS SAME CAR AS NOTED ABOVE OCCURRED IN 2013. I PAID EXTRA FOR MB TO HAVE AN ENGINEER EXAMINE THE CAR BUT I WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
I HAVE A 2008 MERCEDES E350 PZEV MODEL AND THE ISSUE I CAME ACROSS IS A MAJOR ONE. THESE MODELS IN PARTICULAR HAVE A BIG REPUTATION ON FAILING FUEL PUMPS, AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE ON THE PZEV VERSIONS IT CAN NOT BE FIXED UNLESS THE WHOLE FUEL TANKED IS SWAPPED WITH A NEW ONE. THE FUEL PUMP IS LOCATED INSIDE THE GAS TANK AND ITS SEALED JUST SO THERE'S NO WAY OF FIXING THE ISSUE, ON THE OTHER HAND THE NON-PZEV MODELS HAVE A REPLACEABLE PUMP WHICH REDUCES THE WORK AND MONEY TO FIX THE ISSUE. MERCEDES HAS AN APPLIED EXTENDED FACTORY WARRANTY FOR THE MODEL W211 WHICH COVERS THIS ISSUE UNTIL 15YEARS / UNLIMITED MILES FOR NON-PZEV MODELS AND 15YEARS / 150K MILES FOR PZEV MODELS. I SEE THIS VERY WRONG BECAUSE THE PZEV MODELS ARE SUPER EXPENSIVE TO FIX AND MANY PEOPLE ARE OVER THE 150K MILE MARK. THIS TERM SHOULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED TO THE PZEV MODELS. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR $3,200 BUT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IT IS OVER THAN $3,500. I AM REQUESTING MERCEDES TO HELP ME ON THIS SITUATION AS THESE CARS ARE WELL KNOW TO FAIL IN THAT DEPARTMENT. AS IT STANDS THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, IT RELEASES LOTS OF RAW GAS SMELL AND SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT START. I WANT MERCEDES TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS MATTER BECAUSE THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE BEEN A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLAR FIX IF THE DESIGN AFTER TANK WASN'T SO BAD. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE PZEV MODELS AND MOST OF THEM ARE OVER THE 150K MILE LIMIT WHICH IS NOT ENOUGH CONSIDERING THE AGE OF THE VEHICLES. *TR
