The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was transferred to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.
I HAVE HAD 2 MB E-350 ENGINE FAILURES WITHIN 13 MONTHS. BOTH WERE "CAMSHAFT SENSOR" ISSUES. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE I SEE THAT MB HAD A KNOW DEFECT IN OR ABOUT 2009 WITH THESE ENGINES. I BELIEVE THAT IT REMAINS UNRESOLVED TODAY. THE CHANCES OF ONE PERSON HAVING 2 VEHICLES WITH THE SAME DEFECT CAUSING APPROXIMATELY $9,000 EACH IN LOSSES IS CLOSE TO THE CHANCES OF BEING ATTACKED BY A BLACK BEAR AND A POLAR BEAR IN THE SAME DAY. I THINK THAT THERE IS A HIDDEN DEFECT THAT MB IS NOT RECOGNIZING. IT IS COSTING CONSUMERS THOUSANDS OF $$ IN REPAIRS DUE SOLELY TO THIS DEFECT AND SHOULD BE A MB COST.
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE 722.9 7G-TRONIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SOMETIMES GET STUCK IN 1ST GEAR. THE ENGINE SPEED ALMOST INSTANTANEOUSLY EXCEEDS 5000 RPM. THE CAR MUST BE IMMEDIATELY DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD, THE ENGINE TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED. THE TRANSMISSION WILL THEN SHIFT PROPERLY UNTIL THE NEXT TIME IT FAILS WHICH COULD BE AT ALMOST ANY TIME. THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT WHICH MERCEDES BENZ HAS KNOWN ABOUT FOR YEARS. ONLY MERCEDES BENZ WILL REPAIR THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY WILL NOT ALLOW 3RD PARTIES ACCESS TO THE REPAIR PARTS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE COLLISION ASSIST INOPERATIVE WARNING INDICATOR DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DOWN SHIFT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THE SOFTWARE WAS RESET. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE.
