The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL450. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal shaking coming from the engine while attempting to steer the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the power steering reservoir and the power steering lines were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 196,000.

A flash from the right headlight had occured. I thought it was the bulb, but turns out the ballist was shorted out. I removed the assembly from the vehicle to change the ballist and because I want to also change the lens on the assembly. When I got the old lens off, I found most of the wiring has heat distress, causing the casings to flake off. I have photos of this issue. The headlights are a high energy assembly and this unsafe condition can lead to a vehicle fire if not taken care of immediately.

The contact was informed by the dealer that the recall repair could not be performed until the rear brake lines and a transmission diagnostic test was performed. The contact stated that the dealer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Last Wednesday Morning June 06, 2023 I started vehicle up to move it closer to my apartment. Once I shifted into "Drive", immediately the engine revved up and vehicle accelerated in high rate of speed across the parking lot, I was applying the brakes, but they were not stopping the vehicle, it then slammed into wooded area and crashed head first into creek beyond the wooded area. I was dazed and bleeding from cut beneath my nose, I climbed out of vehicle and back up the incline the vehicle crashed downward into. Baltimore County Police responded and I explained to Officer what had happened. He advised me to contact my Insurance Carrier and wrote the Incident Report #. During the time while awaiting my vehicle's retrieval from the wooded area, I then photographed and video recorded the damages once retrieved. The air bags did not deploy when the vehicle crashed yet the complete front grill and hood of the vehicle was smashed in, front tire blown.

The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time to complete the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that he has contacted Mercedes-Benz roadside assistance to arrange for the tow and was redirected to call the Mercedes-Benz recall hotline. The contact stated that he was told to contact several other numbers to arrange for tow the dealer. The contact stated the was unable to arrange the tow to the dealer. The contact was upset that he was given a no-drive recall, and has contacted the manufacturer and the dealer with no results. The contact stated he has not experienced a failure.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V315000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact owns a 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL450. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH and approaching a stop light, an unknown "malfunction" warning light illuminated. The contact attempted to veer to the side of the road but noticed that the steering wheel had lost power steering functionality. The contact then forcefully steered the steering wheel and veered into the right turn lane. The contact turned off the vehicle and turned on her hazard lights. Upon restarting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the power steering functionality had not returned. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V682000 (Steering). The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
At slow speed it’s hard to turn. Steering fluid is fine
VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE IN MY GARAGE. VEHICLE WAS RUNNING FINE 2 HRS PRIOR. MY HUSBAND ENTERED THE VEHICLE TO RUN AN ERRAND AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. TONS OF LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH, INCLUDING THE AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED, THOUGH THE AIRBAG HAD NOT DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS OFF BUT STILL SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS RUNNING. WINDOWS OR NOTHING WOULD WORK. WE RAISED THE HOOD AND WAS NOT ABLE TO DISCOVER THE ISSUE. WE COULD SMELL SOMETHING, BUT WAS NOT SURE WHAT IT WAS. WE PROCEEDED TO GO INSIDE OUR HOME, BUT LEFT THE GARAGE AND HOOD OPEN SO THE SMELL FROM THE VEHICLE WOULD LEAVE THE GARAGE. COUPLE HOURS LATER WE HEARD A HISSING SOUND IN THE GARAGE. MY HUSBAND WENT OUTSIDE AND DISCOVERED THE TRUCK ON FIRE. NOT SURE WHERE IT STARTED, WHEN SAW IT WAS UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. WE EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE BUT THE FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED OUT. FIRE DEPT SOUND LIKE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY HAD WE NOT HEARD THE SOUND AND HAD THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN. MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN CONTACTED.
The vehicle has a steering problem resulting from the pin.

The vehicle was included in a recall NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V315000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) could cause additional issues with the vehicle's seat belt. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired for the seat belt. The manufacturer was not made aware. The approximate failure was unknown. The contact also stated that the 3rd row seat will not go down all the way and the issue also pops up on the dashboard.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES-BENZ GL450. THE CONTACT BOUGHT THE VEHICLE TWO MONTHS AGO. WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF SUDDENLY. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED IN ORDER TO BE COASTED SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CALLED FERGUSON SUPERSTORE (1601 N ELM PL, BROKEN ARROW, OK 74012, (918) 258-1800) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE TOOLS TO CHECK A MERCEDES-BENZ AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CONSULT WITH A MERCEDES DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS CURRENTLY SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT WITH A MERCEDES DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE AIRMATIC SUSPENSION HAS FAILED, THE TRUCK IS SITTING LOW THE AIR COMPRESSOR BLEW INTO PIECES FROM WORKING TO HARD. THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM WITH MERCEDES AIRMATIC SHOCKS ON MANY DIFFERENT MODEL... PLEASE HELP US ,THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.. I ONLY HAVE ABOUT 45000 MILES ON MY TRUCK.
AT LOW SPEEDS LIKE BACKING UP OR PULLING INTO DRIVEWAY THE STEERING BECOMES VERY HARD TO TURN.
VEHICLE KEEPS LOSING AIR, STEERING WHEEL HARD TO TURN, CAR LEANING TO RIGHT SIDE, AIRBAG LIGHTS KEEPS COMING ON, THE CAR LOOSES POWER WHEN TURNING. DURING THE NIGHT CAR WILL LOWER IT SELF. ABS WILL COME ONE, SMELL SMOKE. WAS TOLD BY DEALER I HAVE LEAKS IN THE ENGINE, HAD TO REPAIR SUSPENSION, AND DIFFERENT STRUTS AND PARTS WHILE DURING WARRANTY AND AFTER SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. I NOTIFIED MBUSA, AND APPARENTLY THIS CAR HAS BEEN HAVING AIRBAGS AND SUSPENSION ISSUES REPAIRED BEFORE I BOUGHT IT, THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAS BEEN DOING THE SAME REPAIRS. WITHIN A MONTH OF REPAIRING ON THING, THE CAR STARTS TO LEAN TO RIGHT, MAKE NOISE, LEAK FLUIDS FROM WHO KNOWS WHERE.
THE TRAILER HITCH HAS BEEN RECALLED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 08V242000 : MB RECALL # 2008-050004 MB TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN # 2008050004C. MERCEDES BENZ (CHRISTIAN TREIBER VP CUSTOMER SERVICE THRU ERICK [LAST NAME REFUSED] EXECUTIVE REFERRAL MANAGER) HAVE IN WRITING DENIED MY REQUEST TO RECOGNIZE THE NEED TO REPAIR MY TRAILER HITCH ACCORDING TO THEIR RECALL AND TSB DENYING THAT THERE IS A RECALL.
MERSEDES BENZ CUSTOMER SUPPORT AND BONITA SPRINGS DEALERSHIP FL REFUSED TO DEAL WITH RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 08V242000 MB CAMPAIGN 2008050004 BECAUSE RECALL WAS NOT LOGGED AGAINST VIN # AND REFUSED TO LOG AGAINST VIN DESPITE SEEING RECALL LETTER WHICH DESCRIBES PROCESS AND SEEING ENTIRE MB SERVICE BULLETIN. TRAILER HITCH HAD BEEN INSPECTED BY MB MECHANIC AND DETERMINED TO BE AFFECTED TRAILER HITCH AND THAT RECALL HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED. THE RECALL WARNS THAT TRAILER HITCH SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR ANYTHING WHICH DESTROYS MY PURPOSE FOR PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. I WOULD LIKE SOME COMPENSATION FOR THIS AND THE RECALL COMPLETED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
SINCE DEC 2017 THE CAR PRESENTED STEERING PROBLEMS AT SLOW SPEEDS, LOSS OF POWER AND HARD TO TURN. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT INFORMED ME THAT THERE WERE NO ISSUES. I DID FIND IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT A RECEIPT FROM A PREVIOUS OWNER IN WHICH THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING COMPONENTS IN LATE 2016. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH THE CAR BASED ON THE MANY REPORTED INSTANCES ON THIS WEBSITE.
STATUS ' 4TH TIME TRYING TO REPAIR THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN ISSUE 'VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED DURING DRIVING FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH KIDS IN THE CAR ' COMPLETE SHUTDOWN WHILE DRIVING, LOSS OF STEERING AND DASHBOARD ILLUMINATES EVERY WARNING SIGNAL (SEE PICTURE BELOW) 'MERCEDES IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES FIXED THE CAR (SEE RECEIPT $4,600 IN REPAIRS) AND SUV CONTINUES TO STOP. SINCE THE 1ST INCIDENT, THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE ISSUE THREE TIMES AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OVER 60 DAYS THIS YEAR. I CONTACTED THE CEO'S OFFICE AND A REPRESENTATIVE HAS STEPPED IN TO ASSIST WITH THE ISSUE. THEY HAVE BROUGHT IN A SPECIAL ENGINEER TO RESEARCH THE ISSUE BUT THAT STILL DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. ON 10/20/17 ALMOST TWO MONTHS AFTER HAVING MY CAR IN THE SHOP, I PICKED UP THE SUV. ON 11/18/17, THE CAR STOPPED ON ME AGAIN WITH MY SON IN THE BACK SEAT. AFTER BEING STRANDED FOR NEARLY TWO HOURS. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT A CAR SINCE 11/18/17. ON 11/22/17, I RECEIVED ANOTHER UPDATE STATING THE CAR IS CLOSE TO $3000 TO FIX. SINCE JUNE 2017, I HAVE REPEATEDLY BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. I HAVE REPEATEDLY ASKED MERCEDES TO DECLARE THE CAR A LEMON SINCE OVER $7000 OR MORE HAS BEEN PUT INTO THE VEHICLE FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASE THE CAR. MERCEDES KNEW ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE 1ST GENERATION SUV RATHER THAN TAKE THE OLDER MODEL SUV OUT OF PRODUCTION, THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO PROFIT AND PUT SON AND OTHER KIDS IN HARM'S WAY---THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE CHALLENGES WITH THE ENGINE, THE WIRING AND THE OLDER TECHNOLOGY IS A KNOWN ISSUE'THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND THE STEERING COLUMN IS LOCKED AND YOU CAN'T PUT THE SUV IN ANY GEAR'THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I HAVE BEEN STRANDED WHILE DRIVING THE ROAD AND FREEWAY.
VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED FOR THE 5TH TIME SINCE JUNE 2017 WHILE DRIVING ON THE SURFACE STREET. SUV COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING, LOSS OF STEERING AND DASHBOARD ILLUMINATES EVERY WARNING SIGNAL INCLUDING A BEEPING SOUND; GEARS SHUT DOWN AND SUV COMPLETELY STOPS WAS DRIVING. IN LOOKING AT THE HISTORY (I'M THE 3RD OWNER), THE WORK PERFORMED FOR THE DEFECTIVE CAMSHAFT WAS COMPLETED 2 YEARS AFTER THE 2009 MERCEDES BULLETIN AND ANOTHER REPLACEMENT TO THE BALANCE SHAFT AND CAMSHAFT WAS PERFORMED 1 YEAR AFTER THE 2012 BULLETIN. IN ITS REPORT, MERCEDES ISSUED A CAUTION AND STATED, "NEW TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER MUST BE INSTALLED AND ONLY AFTER THE ENGINE HEAD COVERS (VALVE COVERS) ARE INSTALLED/BOTTLED ON. FAILURE TO OBSERVE THAT WILL RESULT IN THE OVER TIGHTENING THE TIMING CHAIN WHICH WILL ULTIMATELY LEAD TO ENGINE HEAD DAMAGE." IN THE CAR FAX REPORT, I SEE AFTER EACH REPAIR, THE OWNER SOLD THE VEHICLE. IN LOOKING AT MY RECEIPTS, I SEE MY REPORTS OF SMOKE FROM THE DASHBOARD (FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME TO MY VEHICLE WHILE IN ROUTE TO MY SON'S SCHOOL TO ENSURE MY SUV WOULD NOT CATCH FIRE). I ALSO SEE REQUESTS TO REPLACE LIGHT BULBS FOR BLOWN FUSE, THE BATTERY, WIRING ISSUE UNDER THE SEAT, NOW A NEW PROBLEM RELATED TO THE CAN TECHNOLOGY. ANOTHER RECEIPT WORK DONE ON THE CAMSHAFT. BASED ON MY RESEARCH, THE RECALL RELATES TO THE DEGRADING OF POOR MATERIALS USED TO MANUFACTURE THE 1ST GEN SUVS. I DON'T BELIEVE THERE ARE ANY REPORTED DEATHS BUT IT PUTS MANY PEOPLE AT RISK AS I WAS RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE LOOKING FOR MY RECEIPTS, I CAME ACROSS ANOTHER RECEIPT FOR THE ML500 2006 I SOLD BEFORE I PURCHASED MY CURRENT VEHICLE. THE RECEIPT SHOWS I WAS SEEKING SERVICE FOR THE ENGINE STOPPING WHILE DRIVING. SUBJECT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG EXPLODE OR INFLATED INSIDE: ON AUGUST 30TH I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM MERCHEDISBENZ DEALER AFTER SERVICED. I STARTED THE CAR AND I AM ABOUT TO LEAVE DRIVING 5MPH AND I HEARED A BIG LOUD POP I DIDN'T EVEN LEAVE THE PREMISES YET. THE TECHNICIANS EVEN HEARD IT. I INFORM THE TECHNICIAN RIGHT AWAY AND TOOK IT FOR TEST DRIVE AND HE SAID EVERYTHING IS FINE. I TOOK IT HOME, BUT I COULDN'T SLEEP WITH OUT FINDING WHAT THAT NOISE IS? I TOOK IT BACK TO BE CHECKED AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INFLATED INSIDE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS HERE IF I DIDN'T TAKE IT BACK THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW THE AIRBAG IS NOT FUNCTIONING OR BLOWUP INSIDE UNTIL ACCIDENT HAPPENS. THEREFORE, IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED, HOW THE DRIVER WILL FIND OUT? IT DOESN'T SHOW ANYTHING ANY WARNING ⚠️ ON THE SCREEN. IT'S DEFINETLY A SAFETY ISSUE.
8/30/16 REPLACED RIGHT FRONT AIRMATIC STRUT.SUSPENSION KEPT DROPPING. 8/1717 AT TIMES,AFTER CLOSING DOOR,AIR ESCAPES AND SUSPENSION DROPS. DEALER CHECKED CODES AND NOTHING. SUSPENSION CONTINUES TO DROP WHEN DOOR CLOSES. CAN HEAR AIR ESCAPING. NOT EVERY TIME, BUT 3 OUT OF 4 TIMES
ME AND MY WIFE OWN A 2008 MERCEDES-BENZ GL-450. IT STARTED GENERATED POWER STEERING PROBLEM ON US SINCE JULY 2017. DURING ANY DRIVING TIME, WHEN WE STEP THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN SPEED, THE POWER STEER BECOMES VERY HARD TO TURN REGARDLESS ITS ON FREEWAY OR LOCAL STREET. THE STEER TAKES TREMENDOUS EFFORT TO CONTROL ON LOWER SPEED AND MAKES IT SPECIALLY HARD TO PARK. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A CHECK UP SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL WAS FINE AND IT MIGHT ENCOUNTER A POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC. DUE TO THE MECHANIC'S RESEARCH LATER ON, HE DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE A HUGE NUMBERS OF RECALL FOR THE SAME POWER STEERING PROBLEMS ON THE SAME MODEL, SAME YEAR OF OUR CAR. WITH THE SUGGESTION OF THE MECHANIC, WE CHECKED THE RECALL INFORMATION ON MERCEDES-BENZ OFFICIAL WEBSITE WITH THE VIN. IT CAME OUT OUR CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. THEN ON FEB 6, 2018, I CALLED MERCEDES-BENZ RECALL HOT LINE. THE PERSON WHO I SPOKE TO REFUSED TO GIVE ME ANY INFORMATION BUT A "NO" ANSWER. THE SAME DAY WHEN I SPOKE TO MERCEDES-BENZ CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE GENTLEMAN NAMED "WILL"(IF I REMEMBERED RIGHT) WAS VERY NICE. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WILL WRITE A REPORT OF MY COMPLAINT BUT HE WAS NOT ABLE TO GUARANTEE ME ANYTHING. WE ARE WRITING TO YOUR DEPARTMENT TO FIND OUT IF WE STILL HAVE ANY JUSTIFIABLE LEGAL RIGHT WITH OUR VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCEDES-BENZ GL550. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AT PATRICK'S IMPORTS IN LAWRENCE, SOUTH CAROLINA WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS FAULTY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS REPLACED THREE MONTHS AGO. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING RACK. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED ON THE RECALL LIST.
WIRIING INSULATION IN HEADLIGHTS DETERIORATES RESULTING IN SUDDEN AND REPEATED FAILURE OF HEADLAMPS.INFORMATION SHARED WITH HELLA (ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY CHOOSE NOT TO RESPOND). FAILED PARTS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.

THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND CLAIMED TO HAVE REMEDIED THE ISSUE. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS SCHEDULED FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 180,000.

POWER STEERING WENT OUT 2014 CHARGED ME FOR IT. CLAIMED NO RECALLS. FRONT RIGHT HEADLAMP HAD TO BE REPLACED TWO TIMES. THIS WAS THE WHOLE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY. DUE TO WATER GETTING CONTROL BOX WET. CLAIMED IT'S HOW THE HEADLAMP IS MADE. CLAIMED NO WARRANTY OR RECALL ON IT. 2016 & 2019
I HAVE A 2008 GL450 WHEN YOU MAKE A TURN YOU'LL HEAR A SOUND AND IT IS SO HARD TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT TO A MERCEDES BENZ MECHANIC AND THEY FLUSHED AND REPLACED THE POWER STEERING FLUID, THE WHEEL WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND THE NOISE IS NOT AS LOUD BUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN AGAIN AND THE NOISE IS LOUD AGAIN.
POWERING STEERING LOCKS,SUSPENSION AIR STRUTS LOSING AIR CAN HEAR WHEN DRIVING
POWER STEERING FLUID IS LEAKING AT TOP SEAL AT INPUT SHAFT ON POWER STEERING GEAR. IT LEAKS ONTO BOTTOM OF CHASSIS FRAME AND CONCERNED ABOUT CATCHING FIRE DUE TO EXHAUST PIPE NEARBY. THIS IS NOTICEABLE WHEN VEHICLE IS PARKED OVERNIGHT AS IT LEAVES PUDDLE OF FLUID UNDERNEATH. POWER STEERING RESERVOIR WAS ALSO LEAKING AND WAS REPLACED AT 74,000 MI.
I NOTICED A STRONG GAS SMELL AFTER A FULL TANK OF GAS WITH MY MERCEDES BENZ GL450 AFTER I RECEIVED IT BACK FROM THE MERCEDES BENZ DEALER TO REPLACE THE DRIVER SIDE FUEL SENDING UNIT TO FIX THE BROKEN FUEL GAUGE. THE STRONG GAS ODOR WAS NON-EXISTENT BEFORE THE REPAIR. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A RESIDUAL SMELL DUE TO THE REPAIR BUT AFTER A WEEK WHEN I FILLED AGAIN, THE GAS SMELL WAS STILL THERE. THE SMELL IS SO BAD ESPECIALLY IN THE MORNING WHEN I GET INSIDE THE GARAGE. THE SMELL IS EVIDENT ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE CLOSE TO THE GAS TANK. ON JANUARY 11, 2016, I BROUGHT BACK THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME MERCEDES BENZ DEALER WITH A QUARTER OF A TANK TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS, THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE TECHNICIAN/MECHANIC DID THE INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSIS BUT DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I WAS ASKED IF I OVERFILL WHEN I PUT GAS AND I SAID NO. IF MERCEDES BENZ COULD NOT FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG TO AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM, I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE VEHICLE. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE, THIS PROBLEM WAS NON-EXISTENT BEFORE THEY DROPPED THE TANK TO FIX THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. I FIND IT WRONG THAT I HAVE TO SHOULDER THE BURDEN OF WORRIES AND UNCERTAINTY TO A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT MERCEDES BENZ COULD NOT ACCURATELY DIAGNOSE. AT THIS TIME, I DO NOT REALLY HAVE A PEACE OF MIND SAFETY WISE WHENEVER I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY.
AIRMATIC SUSPENSION COMPONENTS CONTINUE TO FAIL ON THIS VEHICLE. AIRMATIC AIR PUMP WAS FIRST REPLACED DEC 2013 AT 71,000MI. FRONT SUSPENSION AIR SPRINGS FAILED AND SUSPENSION STRUTS HAVE BOTH BEEN REPLACED, OCT 2014 AT 85,000 MI. REAR SUSPENSION AIR SPRINGS FAILED AND HAVE WERE REPLACED, JULY 2015 AT 101,600MI. AIRMATIC AIR PUMP WAS REPLACED AGAIN ALONG WITH THE SUSPENSION VALVE BLOCK WAS REPLACED , NOV 2015 AT 107,300MI. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH DEALERSHIP THEY ONLY WARRANT REPAIR FOR 12 MOS AND INFORMED US THAT MERCEDES DOES NOT HAVE RECALL OR PROVIDE CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO REPLACE THESE ITEMS UNLESS PAID FOR BY CUSTOMERS. FRONT AIR SPRINGS DEFLATED DURING TRIP DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED , SUSPENSION DROPPED DOWN AND HAD TO PULL OVER. HAD TO DRIVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WITH SUSPENSION DROPPED DOWN ON FRAME STOPS. BECAUSE OF HIGH COST GETTING REPAIR AT MERCEDES DEALERSHIP, REPAIRS WERE MADE BY OTHER SHOPS AS THEY CHARGE HIGHER PRICES FOR REPAIRS.

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 08V682000 (STEERING) THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
THE CAR BROKE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 45 MPH ROAD IN A VERY DANGEROUS INTERSECTION. TOWED THE CAR TO DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THE ENGINE IS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME THE TIMING CHAIN GOT LOOSE AND WILL COST ~$15K TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED ENGINE.

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
I WAS MAKING LEFT HAND TURN, SUDDENLY THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO BRING IT TO SAFETY. THIS HAPPENED JUST PRIOR TO US ENTERING THE FREEWAY. IF WE WERE TO ENTER THE FREEWAY AND THIS FAILURE WOULD OCCUR ON THE FREEWAY, WE WOULD END UP IN A CRASH. WE CONTACTED MERCEDES. THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BEVERLY HILLS MERCEDES. WE CONTACTED MERCEDES USA TO INFORM THEM OF THE INCIDENT. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED US BACK AND STATED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE POWER STEERING FAILED WE SHOULD HAD BEEN ABLE TO MANEUVER THE CAR TO SAFETY ( WHICH WE WERE NOT ABLE TO DO). MB REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT GIVE US ANY ASSURANCES THAT THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM OF THE VEHICLE BEING UNSAFE IN CASE OF POWER STEERING FAILURE WILL OR CAN BE ADDRESSED SINCE THIS WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. WE HAVE 4 LITTLE KIDS AND WE FEEL IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THIS TYPE OF THE VEHICLE WITH THIS STEERING DESIGN DEFECT. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF MERCEDES GLS ON A ROAD. *TR
I BELIEVE THIS IS A FAULTY PART. I HAD 31,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE WHEN THE FRONT AIRMATIC WENT OUT. NOW THE BACK IS GOING OUT AT 50,000 MILES. THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT'S NOT IF IT WILL GO OUT IT'S WHEN. SO I BELIEVE MERCEDES BENZ KNOWS THEY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS AND WE ARE PAYING FOR BAD PARTS. I BELIEVE THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEIR IS A PROBLEM.

I WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT GETTING INTO THE CAR AND THE PASSENGER SIDE ADAPTIVE HEAD REST RELEASED. THIS IS DESIGNED TO PREVENT WHIPLASH BUT DEPENDING ON THE FORCE IT RELEASED AT (IT'S MECHANICAL NOT AN AIRBAG) IT COULD CAUSE INJURY. THE VEHICLE SMELLED AS IF AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT HAD MELTED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE WIRING IN THE FRONT SEAT THAT TRIGGERED THE MALFUNCTION. THE SEAT HAS TO BE REMOVED AND THE HEAD REST HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1980. THE SEAT IS A 10 WAY POWER SEAT BUT IT SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO MOVE WITHOUT SHORTING THE ELECTRONICS. HAD THIS GONE OFF WHILE UNDERWAY WITH A PASSENGER RESTING THEIR HEAD AGAINST THE SEAT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY. *TR
WAS NOTIFIED BY MERCEDES DEALERSHIP THAT THE CAR HAD "POSSIBLE STEERING RACK CONTROL HEAD LEAKING. FLUID COULD BE SPATTER FROM RESERVOIR LEAKING." I WAS TOLD TO "REPLACE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR AND SEAL RING," WHICH I DID. LESS THAN 20,000 MILES LATER, THE CAR BECAME INTERMITTENTLY HARD TO STEER. WITHIN A SHORT TIME PERIOD, THE CAR BECAME WORSE AND, BECAUSE IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE UNEXPECTED INABILITY TO STEER, I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT NOW I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK, AND REPLACE POWER STEERING PUMP AND RESERVOIR. AN ONLINE SEARCH BRINGS UP HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THE 2008 (AND SIMILAR YEARS) GL450 POWER STEERING.
