NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML-Class. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
In July 2025, the sunroof panel had lifes and was flapping at highway speeds. I immediately contacted a Mercedes-Benz dealer to report the hazard. I was told they were unaware of such an issue and that I would have to pay for the repair out-of-pocket. Due to financial hardship, I could not afford the repair at that time. in. In early February, while driving on the highway, the entire sunroof panel catastrophically detached and flew off the vehicle. This created an immediate and severe road hazard for other drivers. This incident matches the 'adhesive bonding failure' described in other Mercedes-Benz sunroof recalls (e.g., Recall 21V-197), but my specific VIN was not included in that list.
In mid-trip as we were going down the highway went to change lanes and the turn signals were no longer functioning. No errors, no alerts, no warnings they just stopped working. After pulling over and turning off the vehicle and turning back on they work for a time then stop working again. After researching with other owners of these and similar model Mercedes Benz vehicles this is a prevalent and highly dangerous safety issue that many many others have experienced.
Rear subframe rusted from the inside out causing structural failure. This matches the defect in Campaign #2023020002 for other Mercedes models."
Cam Shaft replacement diagnosed after week and half visit to Mercedes Benz dealership for engine rattling at cold start up. We are left with a $10,000 repair after performing all scheduled maintenance at the Mercedes Benz dealership since owning in 2015.
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML350. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle shook abnormally before the vehicle lost automotive power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and take the vehicle to a local dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V955000 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the repair failed to prevent the failure. The contact stated that two weeks after the recall repair, the failure reoccurred. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was scanned by a local independent mechanic who retrieved DTC: P035413, A10D, P072102, U016886, V1FBD04, 94C3, V1DAV54, V1DBD31, P030085, and V142E31. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
I was in drive mode and was looking to park the car on the open spot on the street. Had engaged the reverse gear and was attempting to get in the parallel parking spot. While i was doing that, suddenly the wheel locked up and car stopped with a jerk/jolt. Then came warning that the parking brake was not working (Remember I had not engaged the parking brake as I was in drive mode). The locked up wheel would not move and I had great difficulty in making the car safe in the cross traffic. The issue here is parking brake cannot engage by itself. That has nothing to do with the age of the car, it is like the wheel cannot come off just because the car is old. This could have easily happened while the car was in motion at a higher speed, in that case with 1 wheel locked, a car would spin out of control in a moving traffic causing major damage to other vehicles and myself. Mercedes's rep claimed it was a maintenance item. Parking brake engaging by itself is a maintenance item?? We should put a notice to all customers and your life is in danger because the parking brake can engage by itself locking the wheel anywhere anytime. I am very apprehensive of this design which allows for auto lock of a wheel. It must be investigated and all the parking brake systems should be replaced as it can happen to anyone. Thank you
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML350. The contact stated while reversing, the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who determined that the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The fuel pump was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V955000 (Fuel System, Diesel, Fuel System, Gasoline). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 120,000.

In April 2023, while performing a rear brake service both right and left suspension springs were found with deteriorated suspension spring coating, corrosion and breakage of the coil springs. Suspension spring failure poses a safety hazard and risk of damage to other suspension components. It is unclear when exactly the springs broke but when the vehicle was inspected in Feb of 2022 there was no mention of spring breakage. The date of incident is the date I discovered the spring breaks. I only took a pic of the one spring but both were confirmed broken. MB dealership confirmed breakage. Communication with Mercedes Benz was not successful.
Engine stalled multiple times even though it has been serviced multiple times at multiple dealers.
The center console box will jot close. I have researched and this is a common problem with this car. You can not just replace the closure part it requires a whole new box. This is at a cost of 400.00plus dollars. This is obviously a defect.
I took my car in for a different repair and they found this issue as well. "Diagnostic - Oil leak (Visual): front covers leaking oil down front of engine." The leak was due to a crack in the sealing cap. My car 2015 Mercedes ML350 4Matic is in the recall for 2018070015 but my VIN number was not included in the recall although I am having the exact issues the recall covers. Recall 2018070015 "correct oil level as necessary and replace the reservoir sealing cap to prevent oil foam from leaking out."
The contact owns a 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML350. The contact stated while reversing, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was unknown.
My viechle is loss of propulsion without warning on the freeway last week on a raining day. After brought the car to West Covina Dealer inspected the car is leaking water that has entered the spare wheel well, the accumulated water could intermittently contact the fuel pump control unit caused loss propulsion. And there are some circuit boards and wires damaged due to a water leak and not drive able. The West Covina MB dealer is refuse to fix until MBusa responsible for the cost. Please help what other option we have about this issue?
There is a recall for this significant safety risk. I contacted my local Mercedes Benz about recall remedy on 6 January 2023 and they confirmed the recall and said MB would issue steps to get this taken care of in the beginning of February. It is now 18 February 2023 and this has not happened and I have received no communication from MB and yet the safety risk still exists and could be life threatening.
Steering wheel tilt adjustment failed. Without adjustment it is impossible to steer the automobile safely due to hand placement for control. This is apparent especially when there are multiple drivers. There is not a manual over ride since the system is controled electrically
takata airbags- call Mercedes Benz of Draper says it is not on their list????

Neither back doors on my 2015 ML350 lock. Even after you try to lock them from the inside anyone can open the doors from the outside. This is a huge safety hazard because someone could easily car jack the car while you are in it. I bought the car new from the local dealer and i have reported this to the dealership and they said it was a known problem and that acutuators on both doors needed to be replaced at a large cost to me. I wrote to Mercedes Corporate to report this and to ask for financial assistance in trying to get it corrected and was told to just report it to you. Thank you for any assistance that you can provide.

HI I CURRENTLY OWN 2015 ML 350 BLUETEC, WAS DRIVING THE ML AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE PANORAMIC ROOF SHATTERED WITH GLASS PIECES RAINING LUCKILY MY KIDS WEREN'T IN THE CAR AND I WAS BY MYSELF. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND HAVE COME ACROSS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE ABOVE MENTIONED MODEL. PLEASE ADVISE ME IF THERE IS A RECALL OR IF THE ROOF REPAIR IS COVERED BY MERCEDES. SINCERELY [XXX] THE ABOVE MESSAGE WAS SENT TO MERCEDES AND THEY CONTACTED ME BACK TODAY THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE FIX AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I WOULD RECOMMEND IF THEY ARE FULLY AWARE OF THE GLASS SHATTERING THEN THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OUT TO REPLACE THE GLASS WITH LAMINATED ONE, IF IT SHATTERS IT DOESN'T INJURE ANYONE SITTING INSIDE. IT WAS A SUNNY DAY NO RAIN AND I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT 50 KM PER HOUR. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 MERCEDES-BENZ ML250. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COLLISION PREVENTION ASSISTANCE FEATURE FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT APPLIED EXTREME FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ALMOST EXPERIENCED A CRASH DUE TO AN INTERNAL OR ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE DEALER (MERCEDES-BENZ OF ANAHEIM, 5395 E LA PALMA AVE, ANAHEIM HILLS, CA 92807, (714) 777-1900), WHO SOLD THE CONTACT THE VEHICLE, WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE DEALER DID NOT PERFORM A TEST DRIVE AND INDICATED THAT THE FEATURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE SAFETY CONCERN AND THE CONTACT WAS WAITING TO DETERMINE IF THEY COULD PROVIDE FURTHER TESTING TO DETERMINE IF THE COLLISION PREVENTION ASSISTANCE FEATURE WAS FUNCTIONING. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE MANUFACTURER COULD PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE WHEN A STRONG SOUND WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE BACK, AFTER STARTING THE CAR, IT DISPLAYS A WARNING MESSAGE LIGHT ON THE DASH; IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND A SQUEALING SOUND WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE ENGINE, THIS COULD EASILY HAVE RESULTED IN A LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH WITHOUT ANY WARNING. IMMEDIATELY MBRACE WAS CONTACTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITHOUT WARRANTY AND AT MY OWN COST. THEY ACCUSED ME THAT THE CAR MUST BE INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT/ACCIDENT, BUT IT IS TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CAR TO HAVE SUFFERED A HEAVY BLOW, OR TO HAVE GONE INTO A HOLE, OR TO CLIMB A HIGH SIDEWALK, ETC. WITHOUT A SIGN OF DAMAGE; THE DAMAGE PIECE (STEERING GEAR) IS LOCATED IN A PLACE THAT WOULD BE TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO REACH WITHOUT THE CAR SUFFERING A HEAVY IMPACT, WHICH WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ADDITIONAL EXTERNAL DAMAGE BELOW, OR IN THE TIRE, BUMPER, RIM, OR ANY OTHER PART, EVEN THE AIR BAGS. THE CAR EXTERNALLY INCLUDING EACH SINGLE PART, IS IN PERFECT CONDITION. THIS DAMAGE WAS NOT CAUSED BY ANYTHING THAT I DID WRONG; MUST BE A DEFECTIVE PART FROM THE MANUFACTURE, AND I CAN'T NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS. THE MB USA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, AND THEY INSIST THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OR MY CAR INSURANCE NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE MONETARILY OF THIS SITUATION, WHICH IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR TO ME AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. IT HAS ONLY 18,000 MILES APPROX. AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE SUCH A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS BRAND AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE. IF A DEFECTIVE DRIVING PART IN THE STEERING GEAR EXISTS IN THE VEHICLE, THAT CAUSES IT TO BREAK DURING NORMAL VEHICLE TURNING, THE NORMALLY AVAILABLE HYDRAULIC SUPPORT FUNCTION WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION AND STEERING WHEEL OPERATION WILL BE LIMITED. *TR
WHEN AT A SLIGHT INCLINE OR DECLINE, THE VEHICLE WILL GO FROM THE "DRIVE" GEAR AUTOMATICALLY INTO "PARK." WHEN THE "DRIVE" GEAR IS RE-ENGAGED, THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT CRUNCHING OF THE GEARS AS IT GOES FROM "PARK" BACK INTO "DRIVE" MODE, CAUSING UNDUE STRESS AND FATIGUE ON THE BRAKING MECHANISM, INCREASING THE LIKELIHOOD OF BRAKE MALFUNCTION AND/OR FAILURE.
