TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. AFTER MERGING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND EXITING THE VEHICLE, A TRAILER SIDESWIPPED THE ENTIRE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DRIVER OF THE TRAILER ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A TURN PRIOR TO CRASHING INTO THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED DUE TO IT BEING OUT OF BUSINESS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SITTING IN AN INTERSECTION WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND LIGHTLY CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS THEN DEPLOYED ABNORMALLY, SEVERAL MOMENTS AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED BY THE AIR BAG AND SUSTAINED LACERATIONS TO HIS LEFT ARM. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED WITHOUT A FORCEFUL IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 00V083000 (SEAT BELTS: FRONT: RETRACTOR) OR 00V157001 (SEAT BELTS: FRONT: ANCHORAGE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000.
2000 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS AIR BAGS FAILED TO INFLATE IN AN ACCIDENT. CONSUMER STATES THAT HE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT INFLATE. CONSUMER SENT A COMPLAINT TO FORD AND NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. *KB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING THE SEAT BELT, THE RETRACTOR MECHANISM LOCKED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT. THE DEALER INDICATED THE SPRING IN THE RETRACTOR MECHANISM WAS BROKEN AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

THE REAR CENTER SEAT BELT OF MY 2000 MERCURY GRAND MARQUE IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN A CHILD SEAT IS BELTED THERE, THE SEAT BELT STRAP GRADUALLY SLIDES LOOSE THROUGH THE LOCKING DEVICE. THE SEAT BELT APPEARS SECURE AT FIRST, BUT IT GRADUALLY LOOSENS AS THE WEIGHT OF THE CHILD SEAT ROCKS AGAINST IT. THE BELT LOOSENED COMPLETELY AFTER 30 MINUTES OF DRIVING, AND WOULD HAVE BEEN USELESS IN A CRASH. FORTUNATELY, WE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM BEFORE ANYONE WAS HURT. WE WENT TO DUDDIE FORD OF NORTHBOROUGH, MA ON 1/29/03 AND PRESENTED THE PROBLEM.
