WHILE COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH, THE PLASTIC PLASTIC COVER WHICH COVERED THE WIRES FELL DOWN DUE TO PIN FALLING OUT. CONTACT IS STILL DRIVING THE CAR. CAR IS REGULARLY SERVICED. CONTACT KEEPS SERVICE RECORDS. *AK WHEN THE COVER FELL OF IT MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR THE CONSUMER TO HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL. *NM
SLIGHT WHITE SMOKE APPEARING THROUGH VENTS IN AUTO. THEN WHEN WE PARKED IT EXTREME SMOKE CAME INTO VENTS FILLING PASSANGER COMPARTMENT. ALSO EXTREME WHITE SMOKE MIXED WITH BLACK CAME THROUGH VENTS BETWEEN HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. I OPENED HOOD AND IT WAS APPARENTLY BETWEEN FIREWALL & DASH. HAD TERRIBLE SMELL LIKE ROTTED TUNA. WIFE STILL HAVING BREATING PROBLEMS FROM INHALATION. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE DID NOT ALWAYS START. WHEN IT DID START THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE IDLING. TO ALLEVIATE STALLING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MUST BE PUMPED HARD WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE IAC VALVE WAS REPLACED, AND THE COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED. NEITHER OF THESE EFFORTS REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE OFF OF CARWASH CONVEYOR, THE ENGINE RACED TO FULL SPEED. I HAD TO US BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, AND SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP THE CAR. WITH THE FRONT TIRES LOCKED, THE CAR STILL ACCELLERATED OVER TWO SPEED BUMPS BEFORE STOPPING.
PROBLEMS WITH MY WIFE'S 2002 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS NOT CRANKING AT ODD TIMES. I HAVE CRANKED UP THE CAR, AND DRIVEN IT INTO THE GARAGE, THEN GO BACK OUT A COUPLE MINUTE LATER - 15-30 MINUTES - AND THE CAR WOULD NOT CRANK. THE LAST TIME I PULLED THE CAR INTO THE GARAGE ONE EVENING AND WHEN MY WIFE WENT TO GO TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING IT WOULD NOT CRANK. THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT CAN NOT FIND A PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WENT OUT ABOUT A YEAR AGO, REQUIRING A MODULE BE REPLACED. AFTER THAT WE NOTICED THE FOOT PEDAL ADJUSTMENT DIID NOT WORK AND A LOOSE CONNECTION WAS FOUND TO BE THE PROBLEM. THE STARTING PROBLEMS DID NOT START UNTIL AFTER THE TURN SIGNAL MODULE WAS REPLACED. I HAVE FOUND OTHER INCIDENTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR THIS MODEL MERCURY. *AK
WHILE WAITING AT A STOP ENGINE STARTED TO REV TO A HIGH RATE. DRIVER SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL TO HELP RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, WHICH FAILED. HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MECHANIC, AND CAUSE OF PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED.*AK
ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO BELT FAILURE WHICH HAD PROTRUDED THROUGH THE TIRES. *AK *JB *NLM
WHILE DRIVING SUSPENSION IS VERY BOUNCY, WHICH CAUSES VEHICLE TO BECOME UNCONTROLLABLE. *AK
THE GEARS TENDED TO POP, MAKING THE VEHICLE JUMP FORWARD, AS WELL THE ENGINE LEAKING OIL, AND INCREASING THE CHANCE OF THE VEHICLE TO OVERHEAT. TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS 4 TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT A NEW ENGINE WAS NEEDED, BUT IT WILL BE AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE.*AK
THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING. MICHELIN 97SM+S/MODEL-SYMMETRY. *AK THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FISHTAIL. *SCC *JB
WINDSHIELD WIPERS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, THEY WILL WIPE PART OF THE TIME THEN ATTEMPT TO SCRUB PART OF THE TIME. WHEN SCRUBBING ACTION OCCURS THERE IS A TERRIBLE NOISE AND THE WIPERS SKIP OVER PART OF THE MOISTURE LEAVING THE WINDSHIELD PARTIALLY COVERED AND IN HEAVY RAIN, CREATS AS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION DUE TO LACK OF VISIBILITY. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED WITH MY DEALER, BILLION LINCOLN-MERCURY IN SIOUX FALLS, SD SINCE THE FIRST OCCURENCE IN MAY OF 2003. AT THAT TIME I BELIEVE THE WIPERS WERE REPLACED AND SINCE THEN IS HAS BEEN A STALLING SITUATION WITH FORD UNTIL MY WARRANTY RAN OUT. I HAVE LOGGED CALLS TO MERCURY'S CALL CENTER BEGINNING IN MAY OF 2004 ADVISING THEM OF THE PROBLEMS AND WORKING WITH THE DEALER. I FINALLY WAS SENT A PACKET OF FORMS TO FILL OUT AND SEND IN TO THE DISPUTE SETTLEMENT BOARD IN WAUKESHA, WI. BY THE TIME I RECEIVED THE FORMS. FILLED THEM OUT AND SENT IN, THEY WERE RECEIVED BY THE DISPUTE BOARD ON OCOTBER 14, 2004, MY WARRANTY EXPIRED SEPTEMBER 18, 2004 SO FORD SAID THE DISPUTE BOARD HAS NO JURISDICTION THUS THEY ADVISED ME, TOO BAD. I MIGHT ADD, THIS CAR SITS IN OUR GARAGE IN SIOUX FALLS FROM OCTOBER UNTIL APRIL OF THE NEXT YEAR AND HAS DONE SINCE IT WAS NEW IN THE FALL OF 2001 WHEN IT WAS PURCHASED. WE ARE IN TUCSON FOR THOSE MONTHS AND USE ANOTHER CAR. THIS ACCOUNTS FOR THE PROBLEM NOT SURFACING EARLIER THAN 2003.*AK

WHILE TRAVELING HIGHWAY SPEEDS VARIYING 65-70 MPH, THE RIGHT REAR TIRE FAILED DUE TO TREAD SEPERATION WITH NO WARNING. THE TIRE WAS MADE BY MICHELIN WITH THE SIZE BEING P22560R16. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. NLM
SERPENTINE BELT BROKE OFF WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING, CAUSING STEERING, BRAKES, AND A FEW OTHER PARTS ON VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING. *AK
CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 65MPH ON THE VEHICLE. CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE MANUALLY OR WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. SPEED INCREASED TO 75MPH BEFORE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS APPLIED TO STOP VEHICLE. MERCURY DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK *SCC

SUDDEN ACCELERATION OF VEHICLE
THIS IS A CONCERN AND I AM WONDERING, IF IT SHOULD IN FACT BE A COMPLAINT. I PURCHASED A 2002 MERCURY MARQUIS ON JUNE 12TH OF 2003. I WAS ASSURED THIS, AS OTHER AUTOS HAD BEEN CHECKED OUT AND IN GOOD ORDER. I AM NOW NOTICING THE IGNITION KEY SOMETIMES DOES NOT TURN WHEN I AM TRYING TO START THE CAR. EQUALLY IMPORTANT, I RAN A CARFAX REPORT AND DISCOVERED ON 11/18/02 THIS CAR HAD 27,262 MILES. WHEN I PURCHASED IT, AND BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE, WHICH AT THAT TIME WAS 27,279 I WAS ASSURED THIS WAS A GOOD CAR. I FIND NOW, THAT IT WAS NOT THE RETIRED, SENIOR CITIZEN WHO WANTED A NEW AUTO TRADE IN, BUT THIS WAS A RENTAL CAR FROM BURLINGGAME, CA. NOW I AM WONDERING IF I SHOULD BE CONCERNED THIS CAR WAS SITTING FOR 8 MONTHS AND THUS ONLY HAD 17 MILES MORE IN JUNE THAN IN NOVEMBER? OR BE SUSPECT ABOUT THE ODOMETER BEING ROLLED BACK? IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM ACCURATE A 2002 WOULD ONLY HAVE 17 MILES MORE IN 8 MONTHS FROM NOV. 2002 TO JUNE 12, 2003.THANK YOU.
WHILE PUTTING VEHICLE IN GEAR VEHICLE SPED UP WITHOUT CONSUMER APPLYING PRESSURE TO ACCELERATOR. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE WAITING TO HEAR FROM FORD ON THE ENGINE VIBRATION PROBLEM. CONSUMER WAS GETTING THE VEHICLE WASHED AND THE ATTENDANT EXPLAINED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OFF THE CONVEYOR, THE VEHICLE RACED ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND ALTHOUGH HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE FINALLY CAME TO A REST AFTER CRASHING INTO AN ONCOMMING VAN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. *JG
THE CARS EXHIBITS PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN BULLETIN 15415 SB630431. DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS EXHAUST VIBRATION. THEY REALIGNED THE EXHAUST. THIS DID NOTHING TO CORRECT. THE DEALER CLAIMS IT MUST BE THE WAY I DRIVE SINCE ALL THE OTHERS ON THE LOT ARE JUST LIKE. *AK
SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE WE WENT BACK TO DEALER TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BOUNCY SUSPENSION THAT MADE THE CAR GO SIDEWAYS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS WHILE IN MILD TURNS (JUST HIGHWAY DIRECTION CHANGES NOT GETTING OFF/ON, ETC.). DEALER LOOKED INTO PROBLEM VIA FMC AND SAID THE 02 SUSPENSION HAD BEEN CHANGED TO IMPROVE ITS RIDE (HA). THE CHANGES WERE TOO GREAT TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE COMPONENTS TO GET THE RIDE BACK TO WHAT IT WAS IN EARLIER YEARS. ONLY CHANGES WE COULD DO TO IMPROVE IT WERE TO GET 4 NEW HIGH PRESSURE (FAST RESPONDING) KB SHOCKS AND GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TOURING (MORE FLEX IN SIDEWALL) TIRES TO REDUCE THE IMPACT. NOW THE CAR DOES NOT LATERALLY JUMP FEET BUT RATHER INCHES DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AS DESCRIBED ABOVE. ALSO: STARTING RELAY WAS REPLACED TWICE AND HARNESS CONTACTS IN LOWER STEERING COLUMN DEVELOPED POOR CONNECTIONS AND HAD TO BE SPRAYED WITH HIGH COST CAIG CONTACT IMPROVER TO GET CAR TO START CONSISTENTLY. ALSO: BRAKE PEDAL RAISE/LOWER MOTOR BURNED OUT DUE TO GEAR SEIZING UP IN THAT AREA AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY FINDING A REPLACEMENT ACROSS COUNTRY SINCE FMC DOESN'T MAKE PARTS ANYMORE (> 7 YRS I GUESS). ALSO: ALL 8 INDIVIDUAL CYLINDER SPARK COILS WERE REPLACED WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE AFTERMARKET ONES AFTER TWO OF FORDS COILS FAILED, ONE AT A TIME. ALL IN ALL NOT A GREAT CAR. *JS

THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE VIRBRATION/SHUDDER CONTINUES. THE GOING INTO REVERSE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE SOLVED.*AK

THERE IS A CONCERN ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE GAS TANK AND THE SIMILARITY TO THE FORD CROWN VICTORIA'S WITH THEIR REAR END ACCIDENTS, RESULTING IN A VEHICLE FIRE. *JG *SCC
CONSUMER SAYS FRONT DOORS WERE DESIGNED WHERE THE TOP CORNER OF THE DOORS HAS A SHARP CORNER. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS PASSENGER AND DRIVER HAVE BEEN INJURED". CONSUMER BELIEVES DOORS POSE A POTENTIAL RISK OF EYE BEING PUNCTURED.*AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOWER THAN NORMAL WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END WHEN PARKING. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED A TEMPORARY FIX BY PUTTING SHIMS UNDER THE FRONT END. WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH IN THE RAIN, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONSUMER HAD TO USE EXCESSIVE FORCE TO STEER. THIS RESULTED IN INJURIES TO THE CONSUMERS ARM. THIS FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE TENSIONER PULLEY FALLING OFF. THE PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT PLATE FAILED TO LOCK IN THE BUCKLE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ENTIRE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY. *JB ALSO, FRONT RIMS HAVE EXCESSIVE BRAKE DUST. DEALER INSPECTED BRAKES, BUT WEREN'T ABLE TO DUPLICATE CONCERN OF CONSUMER. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. IT WAS A WHISPERING AIR SOUND. *AK *MR
