TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED AND COULD NOT BE REACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL ATTEMPTED TO SEIZE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS COMPLETING A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GARAGE WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT WAS BINDED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS BUT IT DID NOT INCLUDE 2003 MODELS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AT 3:15AM MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WITHOUT WORKING CAUSING ME TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULD ER OF THE HIGHWAY. LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME BACK ON REGARDLESS OF WHAT I DID AT THAT MOMENT. THE ONLY WAY TO GET LIGHTS WAS TO PULL THE LEVEL BACK ON THE STEERING COLUMN IN ORDER TO DRIVE WITH THE HIGH BEAMS ON. THE LIGHTS WOULD ONLY STAY ON WITH THE LEVER HELD BACK UNTIL I REACHED MY WORK. THIS HAS KNOW HAPPENED WITH DAILY FREQUENCY WHICH NOW HAS DEEMED MY CAR UNDRIVABLE AFTER DUSK UNTIL I GET THIS FIXED. FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE CONDUCTED, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON THE FORD CROWN VICTORIA AS WELL AS THE MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT I WAS IN AN AREA THAT ALLOWED ME TO GET MY CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT BUT THIS MAY NOT BE THE CASE FOR THE NEXT DRIVER WHO EXPERIENCES THE FAILURE OF THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE FOR THESE VEHICLES. *TR
DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE, HEADLAMPS WENT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WITHOUT ANY ADJUSTING OF AUTO LAMP FEATURE. ONLY ABLE TO GET HIGH BEAMS TO COME ON WHEN HOLDING THE STALK TO THE ON POSITION. VERY DANGEROUS. NEXT STARTUP LIGHTS WORKING FINE....UNTIL THEY DON'T WHEN YOU ARE ON THE HIGHWAY AND AT HIGHWAY SPEED...CERTAINLY A HAZARD ESPECIALLY FOR NIGHT-SHIFT WORKER. CANT BELIEVE FORD DOESN'T THINK THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONE OF THE TIRES BECAME FLAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE SHOP FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE WHEEL EXHIBITED A ONE-QUARTER INCH FRACTURED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME HARD TO MANEUVER. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
MY SON HAS A 2003, MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CAR HAS KNOW HAD THREE RIMS CRACK AT THE WELD THAT HOLD THE TWO HALVES OF THE STEEL RIM TOGETHER, ONE WAS CRACKED ALMOST COMPLETELY AROUND THE ENTIRE RIM AND IF IT HAD CRACKED IN HALF, THE TWO HALVES OF THE RIM WOULD HAVE SEPARATED AND YOU WOULD HAVE LOST THE TIRE AND COMPLETE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR NOW HAS 32,000 MILES ON IT AND THE SPARE IS NOW CRACKED AND LOSING AIR AND THIS TIRE HAS ONLY BEEN ON THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR. IF YOU GOOGLE CRACKED RIMS ON MERCURY CARS OR GRAND MARQUIS YOU WILL GET HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR STEEL RIMS AND IF YOU GO TO ONLINE PARTS HOUSES AND PUT IN MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS STEEL RIMS YOU WILL FIND REPAIRED RIMS FOR ABOUT $47 AND A COUPLE SITES EVEN SAY, "THESE RIMS HAVE BEEN RE-WELDED AND HAVE NO CRACKS." I KNOW THAT THE SAN JOSE POLICE CARS USE THE SAME RIMS AS MY SON'S CAR AND LAST WEEK I ASKED A POLICE OFFICER IF THEY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE RIMS CRACKING AND HE TOLD ME THEY CHANGE THE RIMS TWICE A YEAR BECAUSE THEY ARE PRONE TO CRACKING AT THE WELD. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN THE CAR TO FORD SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE HAD NO INTEREST IN PROVIDING DIFFERENT RIMS OR EVEN GIVING ME THE INFORMATION NEEDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT, ALL THEY WANTED TO DO WAS SELL ME A NEW RIM OR RIMS FOR $197 EACH. MY QUESTION TO THEM WAS, "WHY WOULD I WANT TO BUY SOMETHING FOR $197 THAT WILL CRACK AGAIN SINCE IT TOO ISN'T WELDED TOGETHER CORRECTLY?" I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEBODY DIES BECAUSE A RIM SEPARATES AND THE PERSON LOSES CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HITS AND KILLS SOMEONE. . I AM ALSO SURPRISED THAT NO ONE HAS COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TO YOU BEFORE AND THAT IF THEY HAVE YOU HAVE TAKEN NO ACTION, I GUESS YOU HAVE TO GET THE PROBLEM ON THE NEWS BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN. *TR
AT 69000 MILES THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE, CLIMATE CONTROL MODULE, RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE STOPPED FUNCTIONING. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. ODD THEY ALL GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME. SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT FOR NO REASON CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO HOLD THE HIGH BEAMS FOR THE REST OF THE TRIP. SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL ATTEMPTED TO SEIZE WHILE THE CONTACT WAS COMPLETING A TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT WAS BINDED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V385000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
VEHICLE HAS BECOME INCREASING DIFFICULT TO STEER AND REQUIRES MANUAL STRENGTH TO TURN THE WHEEL. AT THIS TIME WE ARE NOT ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING IS TOO HARD AND WOULD BE TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. DOING RESEARCH ON THIS VEHICLE I HAVE FOUND THAT IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OTHER MARQUIS' HAVE EXPERIENCE AND FOR WHICH THERE IS A RECALL. THE CURRENT RECALL ONLY APPLIES TO THE YEARS OF 2005 TO 2011. CALLING THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT PRODUCE ANY HELP OR RESULTS, ONLY AN APOLOGY THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED REPAIR ALL MARQUIS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM OR AT THE VERY LEAST PROVIDE HELP FOR THOSE WHO CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AS THE VEHICLE VIOLENTLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED OF THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,696.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. ALL OTHER LIGHTS WORK FINE, BUT THE HEADLIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE TO USE THE BRIGHT LIGHTS AND HOLD THE SWITCH WHILE DRIVING IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND THAT IS JUST CRAZY. I'M BLINDING EVERYONE I PASS AND IT'S VERY HARD TO DRIVE THAT WAY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE LOWER AND MIDDLE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 111,890.
WHILE DRIVING, LIGHTS TURN OFF BY THEMSELVES. IT CAN BE 3 MINUTES FROM DEPARTURE THEY TURN OFF OR LONGER. THEY JUST DON'T STAY ON. TRY TO TURN ON MANUALLY AND WILL NOT TURN ON. IF I DRIVE LONG ENOUGH THEY COME ON BY THEMSELVES. DANGEROUS WHEN ON STREET WITH NO LIGHTING AND ONCOMING TRAFFIC AT NIGHT OR DRIVING NEXT TO TRAILER RIGS WHO DO NOT KNOW MY VEHICLE IS ON THEIR RIGHT OR LEFT. HAVE READ ON INTERNET MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS ISSUE WITH FORD PRODUCTS AND OTHER YEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS BECAME INOPERABLE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT USED THE EMERGENCY HAZARD LIGHTS UNTIL REACHING HER DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123900.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HWY MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OFF THEN BACK ON, THEN OFF. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH WHAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY CALLS THE LCM (LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE) WHICH THEY HAVE DETERMINED WAS DUE TO IN PART TO POOR SODERING AT MANUFACTURING. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THE COMPLAINTS FILED, WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I CANNOT DRIVE ME CAR AT NIGHT IN FEAR OF LOOSING LIGHTING AS THEY COME ON AND OFF SPORADICALLY. WHY HAS NO RECALL BEEN ISSUED. I WAS INFORMED BY DEALER THEY ARE ALL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS WELL. THE PART COSTS $499.00 PLUS LABOR. (WHO CAN AFFORD THIS, BETTER YET FORD NEEDS TO OWN UP) THIS EVENTUALLY IS GOING TO LEAD TO VEHICLE LOSS OF CONTROL WITH CONSUMERS, AND FATALITIES I AM AFRAID, JUST AS THE FORD EXPLORER DID... PLEASE HAVE THE NHTSB INVESTIGATE THIS FURTHER, AND MAKE FORD MO. COMPANY DUE A MANDATORY RECALL. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE I'M AFRAID, AND THE CONSUMER IS HAVING TO PAY THE PRICE FOR FORDS NEGLIGENCE. ANY INSIGHT INTO THIS INVESTIGATION IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING FREEZES UP WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A TURN. I TOOK IT TO COLONIAL FORD IN PLYMOUTH, MA. AND THEY INFORMED ME IT WAS A DEFECTIVE STEERING SHAFT I CHECK THE RECALL LIST AND MY WIFE WHO HAS A 2010 EXACT SAME MODEL IS ON THE RECALL LIST FOR STEERING PROBLEMS AND MY NEIGHBORS DAUGHTER WHO HAS A 2000 EXACT SAME MODEL HAS THE SAME STEERING PROBLEM AND TOOK IT TO SULLIVAN BROTHERS IN KINGSTON, MA. AND THEY FIXED IT FOR FREE SAYING IT WAS A RECALL ITEM WHY WOULD ALL THREE CAR HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING AND YET FORD ONLY PUT A RECALL ON THE 2000 AND THE 2010, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE 2003 IN NOT ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS, THE BUILT DATE IS 10/2002.GRINDING NOISE AT RIGHT REAR AXLE AND FLUID LEAKING AT RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL COATING THE REAR BRAKES. RIGHT REAR AXLE BEARING AND SHAFT ASSY FAILURE PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V328000. THE VEHICLE BELONGED TO MY 75 YEAR OLD FATHER WHOM PASSED AWAY LAST YEAR. I NOW OWN THE CAR. I'LL ASSUME THE PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR QUITE SOME TIME. ACCORDING TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY THERE IS NO SUCH PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. HOWEVER, FORD DOES SELL A HALF SHAFT REAR AXLE BEARING REPAIR KIT PART NUMBER 4A109 $618.91 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. CAN'T SEEM TO GET FORD LINCOLN MERCURY TO COVER COST OF REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITH CAUTION AND THEN THE HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO FUNCTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,500.
PREMATURE FAILURE OF REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING. ORIGINAL NHTSA RECALL # 04V328000 IN JULY OF 2004. MY CAR WAS NOT IN THE ORIGINAL RECALL, BUT I HAVE JUST HAD THIS VERY PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. IF I HADN'T TAKEN THE CAR IN, I COULD HAVE HAD A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM IF THE BEARING HAD GONE OUT TOTALLY. PLEASE FORCE FORD MOTOR CO. TO EXPAND THIS RECALL TO PAY FOR SIMILAR REPAIRS EVEN IF NOT INCLUDED IN ORIGINAL RECALL. A CAR WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM! *TR

LATELY WHEN I CRANK THE CAR AT NIGHT THE LIGHTS DO NOT COME ON IN THE AUTOMATIC SETTING. I SWITCH IT TO MANUAL AND THEY STILL DO NOT COME ON. WHEN I SWITCH IT BACK TO AUTOMATIC THEY USUALLY COME ON. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO DO THIS TWICE TO GET THEM TO COME ON. SEVERAL TIMES I'VE HAD THEM GO OFF WHEN DRIVING AND GOT THEM TO TURN BACK ON THIS WAY. QUITE A FEW TIMES I'VE LEFT A BRIGHTLY LIT PARKING LOT AT NIGHT NOT REALIZING THE LIGHTS HADN'T COME ON AND SUDDENLY REALIZED IT WHEN I PULLED OUT INTO THE ROAD. *TR

2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT ON A DARK ROAD, THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THE LIGHTS WOULD NORMALLY COME ON AUTOMATICALLY BY A SENSOR WHEN IT WAS DARK. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS UNABLE TO TURN THEM ON MANUALLY. THE COST TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM WAS $781.74, IN WHICH ONLY THE DEALER COULD REPAIR. THE CONSUMER STATED A SENSOR WENT BAD.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE HEAD LIGHTS JUST GO OFF, DO NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER THE SELECTOR SWITCH, THEY ONLY WAY TO HAVE LIGHTS IS TO HOLD THE FLASH BRIGHT LIGHT ON THE TURNING SIGNAL AND HOLD THERE, YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY AND LET GO OF THE TURNING SIGNAL AND THE LIGHTS MIGHT COME ON AND GO RIGHT BACK OFF, VERY UNSAFE, COULD CAUSE A BAD ACCIDENT, I HAVE PRICED THIS TO BE REPLACED AND THEY ARE TELLING ON ABOUT 650.00 FOR THE PART ALONG, PLUS THE LABOR INVOLVED, IF THEY KNOW THIS IS HAPPENING AND HAD COMPLAINTS, THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ITEM, BEFORE SOMEONE GETS IN A SERIOUS CRASH OR KILLED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT RETURN TO THE NORMAL POSITION AFTER MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE STEERING SHAFT WAS CORRODED. THE TECHNICIAN LUBRICATED THE STEERING SHAFT AND STATED THAT IF THE FAILURE CONTINUED THE STEERING SHAFT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ABOUT A MONTH LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. DA *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER DIAGNOSIS, THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE REAR AXLE SHAFT, BEARINGS AND, SEALS PREMATURELY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON I-95 IN EARLY MORNING ALL LIGHTS WENT OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS, LEAVING US IN TOTAL DARKNESS. LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND EVERYTHING RESUMED AS NORMAL FOR REMAINDER OF OUR TRIP HOME. A COUPLE OF MONTH LATER SAME THING HAPPENED DURING A SHORT EVENING DRIVE NEAR HOME. NO LIGHTS. RESEARCHED THIS FRIGHTENING OCCURRENCE AND FOUND THAT OUR YEAR MAKE MODEL HAS THIS PROBLEM DUE TO BAD LIGHTING MODULE SOLDER JOB. CONTACTED FOR FORD, NO HELP. EVENTUALLY GOT A LETTER FROM FORD STATING THEY WOULD EXTEND WARRANTY ON THIS PART, BUT WOULD ONLY REPLACE MODULE IF IT WAS FAILING AT TIME DEALER LOOKED AT IT, AFTER CHARGING $49 DOLLARS TO TEST FOR CODES. IT HAS NOT FAILED AT A DEALER LOCATION. I AVOID DRIVING AT NIGHT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. *TR

THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES. I WAS ON A FREEWAY WITH SOME OVER HEAD LIGHTING SO I CONTINUED DRIVING. AFTER ABOUT 45 SECONDS THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE ORIGINAL INCIDENT. HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE FROM FORD/MERCURY? THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS HAPPENED TO QUITE A FEW MERCURY VEHICLES AS THE WEB IS PACKED WITH INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE BY OWNERS AND HAVE ONLY BACK YARD, SHADE TREE MECHANICS ADVICE TO TRY THIS OR THAT. ONE OTHER ITEM TO MENTION IS THAT WHEN THEY TURN OFF, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DRIVING AT A TIME OF NIGHT WHEN FEW OTHER CARS ARE ON THE ROAD (NO ON-COMING HEADLIGHTS). COULD THE ON-COMING TRAFFIC SENSOR ON THE INTERIOR REAR-VIEW MIRROR FOR AUTO HIGH BEAM DIMMING BE SOMEHOW INVOLVED? THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT COULD BE LIFE THREATENING. LUCKILY I AM DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AROUND 1230AM ON AN INTERSTATE WITH MODERATE TRAFFIC. THE HEADLIGHTS JUST GO OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING. AFTER SOME VERY CLOSE CALLS AND NOT JUST A FEW UPSET DRIVERS, I DID MANAGE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND ONTO THE SIDE. I DISCOVERED THAT I COULD HOLD THE SIGNAL HANDLE BACK I HAD HIGH BEAM LIGHTS THAT LET ME GET HOME. I HAVE MAINTENANCE RECORDS ON THIS CAR SINCE IT'S FIRST OIL CHANGE AT 3000 MILES, THE AUTO IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY FORD WOULD NOT TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AS FROM WHAT I HAVE ALREADY READ ,IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, I GUESS NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE DIED FROM IT YET. *TR
LEFT REAR EMERGENCY BRAKE HARDWARE MALFUNCTIONED WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE REARWARD IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS OFF AT THE TIME INCIDENT OCCURRED. HAD EMERGENCY BRAKES REPAIRED ON JANUARY 26, 2017.

HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON IN THE MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC LIGHT SWITCH MODE. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE HEADLIGHTS ON IS TO HOLD HIGH BEAM LEVER IN THE "FLASH MORE"( LEVER PULLED TOWARD DRIVER). I FOUND AFTER A WHILE IF I KICK MY FOOT ABOVE THE ACCELERATOR, THE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON FOR AN UNDETERMINED TIME. FURTHER DIAGNOSIS INDICATES A POOR CONNECTION BY MOVING ONE OF THE MODULES CONNECTORS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

LIGHTS WORKED FINE,BUT I NEEDED TO USE MY TRAILOR THE NEXT DAY SO MY WIFE WAS GOING TO USE THE CAR FOR WORK THE NEXT DAY SO I COULD USE OUR EXPLORER TO PULL THE TRAILOR. THE CAR NEEDED GAS AND IT WAS DARK OUT. WE WENT TO GO FOR GAS AND WHEN I STARTED IT THE PARKING LIGHTS WORKED BUT THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT. HEAD LIGHTS WHEN OFF. I TURNED THEM TO THE AUTO SETTING AND THEY WOULD WORK FOR A SHORT TIME AND GO OFF. THEN THEY WOULDN'T WORK NO MATER WERE YOU SET THEM. WIPER CAME ON BY THEMSELVES AND I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE TO STOP THEM, WHEN I NEEDED THE WIPERS I HAVE TO REPLACE THE FUSE. THEN WHEN I TRY TO TURN THEM OFF THEY STOP IN THE DRIVERS VIEW IF THEY STOP AT ALL. SOMETIMES THEY WOULD WORK RIGHT AND THEN NOT AT ALL. THE WIPER WATER PUMP WOULD NOT WORK EITHER.
