REAR AXLE BEARING FAILURE ON 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. PE4010. THE AXLES ARE IMPROPERLY HEAT TREATED AND FAIL DUE TO NORMAL LOADS. THIS CAR IS NOT A POLICE VEHICLE. THERE IS A CLEAR DEFECT IN THE AXLES OF ALL SIMILAR BODY STYLES. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING HIS 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS (36200 FAILURE MILEAGE) AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND GOT AWAY FROM THE CONTACT FOR ABOUT ONE YARD. THE CONTACT HAD TO FORCEFULLY APPLY THE BRAKE AGAIN, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ACCELERATING, THE CONTACT HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURN THE POWER OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DISCOVERED THAT A DEFECTIVE 2W7Z-9F715-BA VALVE 226 HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,780 MILES.
I RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE TWO WHEELS ON MY WIFE'S 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS DUE TO SUBSTANTIAL WHEEL CRACKS ALONG THE WELDS ON THE OUTER FLANGE OF THE WHEEL CAUSING THE TIRES TO DEFLATE (TWO SEPARATE EVENTS). I SEE REPORTED IN USA TODAY THAT INTERCEPTOR ARE BEING RECALLED FOR THIS SAME 'SERIOUS SAFETY' PROBLEM. I CONTACTED FORD/MERCURY ABOUT MY VEHICLE AND THEY SAY THAT IT IS NOT COVERED AT THIS TIME AND THAT "FORD AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) WORK TOGETHER TO PROACTIVELY IDENTIFY AREAS OF CONCERN THROUGH INVESTIGATION OF CONSUMER AND DEALER FEEDBACK. DURING AN INVESTIGATION FORD COOPERATES FULLY WITH NHTSA. FORD DOES NOT SPECULATE ON THE OUTCOME OF ANY CURRENT INVESTIGATION OR FUTURE ACTIONS. DUE TO OUR RIGOROUS SAFETY STANDARDS AND CONSTANT TESTING, NOT ALL ISSUES RESULT IN FIELD SERVICE ACTIONS OR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAMS." I VISITED THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND SAW THAT OTHER MERCURY FAILURES OF LIKE TYPE HAVE BEEN LOGGED. I'M ADDING MY COMPLAINT AND EXPERIENCE TO THE LIST AND SUGGEST THAT FORD BE MADE TO REPLACE ALL THE DEFECTIVE WHEELS. *JB
TL* - ON 12/20/06 WHILE EXITING THE DRIVEWAY HIS 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TRY TO APPLY THE BREAK PEDAL, BUT COULDN'T GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP ON TIME BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS 4 INCHES HIGHER THAN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT IS CONCERN FOR SAFETY, BECAUSE HE HAS EXPERIENCE THE SAME INCIDENT SEVERAL OF TIMES.
PAINT FLAKING AND PEELING OFF VARIOUS BODY PARTS OF MY 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET. *TR
I OWN A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS THAT WAS ORIGINALLY BUILT BY THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO BE PLACED INTO FLEET SERVICE AS A HERTZ RENTAL VEHICLE IN JULY 2002. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS A USED CAR FROM A DEALER IN ASHLAND KY KNOWING THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN IN PREVIOUS FLEET SERVICE. ON JULY 15, 2004, FORD ACKNOWLEDGED THAT PANTHER VEHICLES BUILT FOR FLEET SERVICE WERE PRONE TO PREMATURE AXLE FAILURES AND ISSUED THE FOLLOWING RECALL. ------ FORD MOTOR COMPANY COMPONENT DESCRIPTION: SUSPENSION:REAR DEFECT SUMMARY CERTAIN POLICE, COMMERCIAL, AND PASSENGER VEHICLES SOLD TO FLEETS TYPICALLY INPUT HIGHER LOADS INTO THE VEHICLE CHASSIS OVERLOADING THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND AXLES. CONSEQUENCE SUMMARY THIS COULD LEAD TO EARLY BEARING FAILURE AND ULTIMATELY TO AXLE SHAFT FRACTURE. IN THE EVENT OF AXLE SHAFT FRACTURE, THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE DRIVE FUNCTION AND WOULD COAST TO A STOP. LOSS OF DRIVE FUNCTION COULD LEAD TO A CRASH. CORRECTIVE SUMMARY DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS, SEALS,AND AXLE SHAFTS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 15, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673. MY VEHICLE HAS PRODUCED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE CARS MENTIONED IN THE ASSOCIATED RECALL, BUT IT WAS NOT INCLUDED. HOW DO I SEEK MEDIATION FOR DAMAGES SUFFERED DUE TO A KNOW MANUFACTURERS DEFECT?
2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS CUSTOMER HAS HAD THE HEAD AND INTERIOR LIGHTS REPAIRED THREE TIMES AND WANTS TO BE REIMBURSED FOR REPAIRS CUSTOMER HAS EXTENDED SERVICE PLAN **CC THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE POWER CONTROL MODULE. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS MIS-DIAGNOSED THREE TIMES AS THE PROBLEM BEING THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE. *JB
THE RECALL IS THE FUEL PUMP . I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND MY VEHICLE IS DEEMED UNSAFE TO COMMUTE. THE EXPENSES ARE UNATTAINABLE AT THIS TIME TO COMPLETE REPAIRS. *TR
DT*: ON THREE OCCASIONS WHEN THE GEAR WAS PLACED INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH FORWARD OR WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE SAME THING WOULD OCCUR CAUSING THE TIRES TO SCREECH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALERS WHO DETERMINED THAT THE GAS AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE TO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. WHEN DEPRESSING ONE PEDAL THE OTHER PEDAL WAS ALSO APPLIED. THE DEALERS ALSO DETERMINED THAT BECAUSE THE PEDALS WERE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY IT WOULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO UNINTENTIONALLY ACCELERATE. THE DEALERS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. UPDATED 7/14/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPLASH GUARD PANEL UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE THAT PROTECTS THE RADIATOR, POWER STEERING, AND VACUUM HOSES, IS VERY LOW TO THE GROUND AND CAN BE STRUCK BY OBJECTS IN THE ROADWAY. ALTHOUGH A FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR, THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. . SPLASH GUARD ALWAYS MADE CONTACT WITH THE BUMPER STOP ON PARKING LOT, WHEN A CAR PULLED OUT THE SPLASHING GUARD MADE CONTACT WITH IT, MAKING A TERRIBLE NOISE, THE PANEL BECAME MORE WARPED EACH TIME THAT IT HAPPENED. BECAUSE IT COVERED VITAL ENGINE AND STEERING PARTS, THIS PANEL SHOULD BE STRAIGHT AND MORE SECURE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY BRAKE PRESSURE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ALERTED HOWEVER NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR WERE DESIGNED TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. UPDATED 04/06/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED OVER A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS ACORNS HAVE ACCUMULATED INSIDE THE HOLES SURROUNDING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARMS. THE HOLES ARE TWO INCHES IN DIAMETER. THE CONTACT LIVES NEAR AN ACORN TREE AND THE ACORNS FUNNEL THEMSELVES DOWN INTO THE HOLES. THERE WERE 50 OR MORE ACORNS INSIDE THAT CAUSED THE MECHANISM TO BIND. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT. THIS CAUSED THE WIPING MECHANISM TO BIND AND STRIPPED THE GEAR IN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR CAUSING THE WIPERS TO STOP WORKING. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER HEARING THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER'S OFFER TO REPLACE THE GASOLINE STORAGE TANK ON POLICE VEHICLES DUE TO A RISK OF FIRE IN THE EVENT OF A REAR END COLLISION, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED NO PRIOR PROBLEMS OR HAD ANY EXISTING FAILURES, THE CONTACT INSTRUCTED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK STORAGE ASSEMBLY. THE CONSUMER WANTED TO KNOW WHY HE HAD TO PAY FOR SERVICE WHEN THE POLICE VEHICLE WERE BEING REPAIRED FOR FREE. UPDATED 02/27/06. *JB UPDATED 4/6/2006 - THE GAS TANK WAS NOT REPLACED. A GAS TANK PROTECTION SHIELD WAS INSTALLED IN POLICE CARS FREE OF CHARGE. THE CONSUMER WAS UPSET BECAUSE HE HAD TO PAY TO HAVE ONE INSTALLED IN HIS VEHICLE. *NM
THE PAINT ON THIS VEHICLE HAS BUBBLED AND FELL OFF THE CAR, ALL OVER THE CAR IN VARIOUS PLACES. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A PATTERN TO THE DAMAGE, EXCEPT WHERE THE WINDOW WASH SQUIRTS THERE IS SOME DISCOLORATION AND RUST. PREVENTATIVE MEASURES HAVE NO AFFECT ON THE PAINT COMING OFF AS MULTIPLE WASHES AND OR WAXES DO/ DID NOTHING TO PREVENT IT FROM CONTINUING. PART OF THE DAMAGE FOLLOWS A RIVET OR WELDING LINE ON THE HOOD WHERE IT IS WELDED TO BRACES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE HOOD, OTHER PLACES APPEAR TO BE HIGH WIND OR HIGH STRESS AREAS. THE PAINT FEELS FRAGILE , HAS NO RESISTANCE TO BREAKAGE AND APPEARS TO BE A WELL KNOWN DEFECT WHEN RESEARCHED. SANDING , RESURFACING AND REPAINTING HELPS SOME, BUT UNLESS THE WHOLE CAR IS REDONE IT IS UGLY AND VERY HARD TO CONTROL AND IT IS ALSO DISAPPOINTING. *TR
2003 FORD MERCURY MARQUIS LOST ALL POWER AND HAD TO BE TOWED. *TS *JB
I HAVE A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH 49,000 MILES. IT STARTED HAVING A GRINDING NOISE IN THE REAR END. I CARRIED THE VEHICLE TO MY MERCURY DEALER. HE STATED THAT FORD HAD MADE AXLES WITH A SOFT METAL WHICH CAUSED THE WHEEL BEARING TO MAKE A GROOVE IN THE AXLE. TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE BOTH AXLES AND WHEEL BEARINGS. I FEEL THAT FORD DOES NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF THE AXLES BREAKING AND CAUSING THE WHEEL TO COME OFF AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I THINK FORD SHOULD RECALL THESE AXLES. *NM
SAME AS ODI 10142807.....FORD MOTOR ISSUED A RECALL (NHTSA CAMPAIGN 04V328000 & NHTSA PE 04010) FOR 2003 FORD CROWN VICTORIA & LINCOLN TOWN CAR ABOUT REAR BEARING SEALS AND AXLES. FORD L/M WILL NOT REPAIR MY 2003 MERCURY MARAUDER BASED ON THIS. IT IS THE EXACT SAME VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY THE REAR END. MARAUDER IS A LIMITED ADDITION WITH THE POLICE PACKAGE MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. *JB
DT: THE CALLER STATES THAT WHILE HE DRIVING AT 65 MPH HIT SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND THIS CAUSED A HOLE IN THE GAS TANK. THE CALLER SAID A LOCAL MECHANIC DID A QUICK FIX WITH A SCREW AND SOME GLUE SO HE COULD GET HOME. DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST A LOT MORE TO REPLACE THE TANK WITH THEM AND HE WENT TO SOMEONE ELSE TO HAVE IT REPLACED FOR A CHEAPER PRICE. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. *AK
THE WELD SEPARATED THE STEEL RIM CAUSING AIR LEAKS AND THE WELD WAS LETTING GO WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH. FORD DEALER WOULD NOT WARRANTY THIS DUE TO 46,000 MILES. FOR SAFETY DEFECTS, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN WARRANTED. *NM
2003 GRAND MARQUIS DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE ALTERNATOR, THE THROTTLE STICKING OPEN AND ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS.*MR THERE WAS ALSO A RATTLE NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND THE DIGITAL READOUT ON THE DASH WAS NOT READING PROPERLY. *TT
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 MERCURY MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS FAILED WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE. IT WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
FUEL GAUGE THAT COMES OFF FULL TOO QUICKLY AND READS LOWER THEN ACTUAL FUEL TANK LEVEL. *JB
2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *MR THE CONSUMER'S FOOT WOULD MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. THE BAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE LESS THAN 3 INCHES APART. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A MINOR PARKING ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *SC
GRAN MARQUIS LS DRIVER'S SIDE WIPER WILL NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE CLEARING OF RAIN OR SNOW UNDER NORMAL HIGHWAY ROAD SPEEDS. THE WIPER ARM ON THE DRIVER SIDE WILL NOT CLEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE ADEQUATELY TO PROVIDE GOOD VISIBILITY. THE PASSENGER SIDE ARM PROVIDES PROPER CLEARING UNDER ALL ROAD CONDITIONS AND SPEEDS. IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE WILL NOT CLEAR PROPERLY ABOVE SPEEDS OF 40 MPH; LESS IF THE WIND CONDITIONS ARE HIGH. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVERS WIPER ARM ASSEMBLY WITH A 2002 ASSEMBLY WHICH HE INDICATED PROVIDES A HIGHER PRESSURE ON THE WINDSHIELD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AS THE TENSION WAS REDUCED IN 2003 MODELS. THE REPLACEMENT COST WAS AT MY EXPENSE AND HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. IT STILL PERSISTS. THERE APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE WIPER BLADE SYSTEM OR A DEFECT IN THE CURVATURE OF THE WINDSHIELD ALTHOUGH IT'S NOT APPARENT THAT THE WINDSHIELD IS THE PROBLEM.
THE ENGINE REVVED IN FULL THROTTLE WHEN THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS SHIFTED INTO DRIVE FROM PARK; RESULTING IN A REAR END COLLISION. THIS OCCURRED WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IN THE CAR WASH LINE. THE REPAIR SHOP FAILED TO DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE, BUT THE CONSUMER FEELS DUE THROUGH THEIR OWN RESEARCH THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM/CRUISE CONTROL. *TT
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT SUDDEN ACCELERATION. CONSUMER WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. DID NOT PRESS THE ACCELERATOR, AND VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURB AND FLATTENED TWO TIRES.CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. *AK
WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, THE VEHICLE KICKED INTO A FAST IDLE. *BF *SC
SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN A 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THIS HAPPENED AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, IT TOOK OFF AT AN EXCESSIVE RATE OF SPEED CROSSED A STREET AND JUMPED TWO CURBS ABOUT 15 INCHES HIGH WITHIN 5 OR 6 SECONDS. MY THOUGHTS WERE "WHAT IS HAPPENING?" & "BRAKE OR YOU ARE GOING TO DIE" THANK GOD THIS VEHICLE DROWN IN HURRICANE KATRINA. I CALLED YOUR OFC IN 2004 AFTER THIS HAPPENED AND WAS SENT A FORM TO FILL OUT AND RETURN TO YOU WHICH I NEVER DID. HOWEVER, WITH THE TOYOTA RECALL IT DISTURBS ME THAT MY FORD DID THE SAME THING. AN INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO BE MADE AS TO WHY THESE THINGS ARE HAPPENING BECAUSE IN MY CASE IT WAS NOT A FLOOR MAT AND NEITHER WAS IT DRIVER'S ERROR. IT IS IMPORTANT TO MYSELF THAT THIS INCIDENT IS REPORTED AND HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL TAKE IT SERIOUS AND FIND OUT WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS BEFORE MORE LIVES ARE LOST. I CONSIDER MYSELF VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT INJURED AND OTHERS WERE NOT INJURED. MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED $5,000.00 WORTH OF DAMAGE AND AT THE TIME THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHECKED THE CAR BUT COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *TR
REAR AXLE AND BEARING NOISES. MARQUIS BOUGHT NEW. OWNER'S SON-IN-LAW NOTED MINOR BEARING NOISE IN REAR WHEN VISITING IN 2004. SON-IN-LAW RECEIVED CAR AFTER DEATH OF MOTHER-IN-LAW IN 2012, CAR HAD 24K MILES AT THAT TIME. NOTICED PRONOUNCED REAR END NOISE AT THAT TIME (A WHAA-WHAA-WHAA MATCHING SPEED CHANGES). LEFT REAR AXLE AND OUTBOARD BEARING FOUND TO BE PITTED AND WERE REPLACED BY INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. RESEARCH BY OWNER INDICATES THAT AXLES FOR THIS, AND OTHER SIMILAR MERCURY AND FORDS HAD FACTORY AXLES INSTALLED THAT HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY HEAT TREATED. NOW, NOV. 2014, AT 43.4K MILES THE RIGHT AXLE IS STARTING TO EXHIBIT NOISE SIMILAR, SO REPAIR IS UP-COMING. WILL EXAMINE NHTSA RECALL 04V328000 AS NOTED HERE IN OTHER COMMENTS POSTED. ALSO REFERENCE FORD/MERCURY SERVICE BULLETIN 0355. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKED WITH THE IGNITION ON; THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED AND THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF, WHICH STOPPED THE VEHICLE AFTER IT TRAVELED 60 FT. THIS HAD OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. ALSO, WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE SPED UNCONTROLLABLY TO 80 MPH. THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED, BUT DID NOT DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL. ALSO, WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE INTO A DITCH TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A BRUISE TO THE SHOULDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER TWICE, WHERE THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.
WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE TRAFFIC WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AND A COLLISION OCCURRED, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS HIT FROM BEHIND, AND PUSHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE HEAD RESTS WERE TO FAR FROM THE HEAD TO BE EFFECTIVE. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED INJURIES. *TC
UPON GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE VEHICLE CONSUMER ALMOST LOST AN EYE. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DOOR EDGES WERE VERY SHARP. *AK
ENGINE MADE A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO SOUND, NOTHING WAS DONE. ANOTHER OUTSIDE MECHANIC TOLD HIM IT SOUNDED LIKE A BEARING. DEALER STATED THAT THE RIGHT CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AT DEALER. *AK
THE VEHICLE'S SHIFTER JUMPED OUT OF PARK AND INTO REVERSE. AS A RESULTED THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS AND WAS INVOLVED IN A MINOR COLLISION. *AK
AFTER PARKING THE CAR ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I GOT BACK IN AND THE STEERING COLUMN WOULDN'T TAKE THE KEY. IT WOULDNT TURN FORWARD OR BACKWARD JUST WOULD FIT IN THE KEYHOLE. STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE FIXED AFTER I HAD THE CAR TOWED. THE CAR (2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS) WAS 6 MONTHS OLD WITH 6,000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY HAD THIS PROBLEM IN THE MERCURY SABLES BUT NOT THE MARQUIS. *AK
DT: THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BRAKE PEDALS ARE TO CLOSE TOGETHER. THE CONSUMER THINKS THAT ONE SHOULD BE UP HIGHER THAN THE OTHER. WHEN YOU WEAR WORK BOOTS, THAT IS MORE DANGEROUS. WHEN THE CONSUMER HITS THE BRAKE, IF YOU'RE NOT SITTING UP STRAIGHT, THE CONSUMER'S FOOT IS HITTING THE ACCELERATOR ALSO. THE CONSUMER IS TRYING TO REMEMBER TO KEEP HIS FOOT FAR ENOUGH OVER. *TT *SB *NM
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND IT CRASHED INTO A UTILITY POLE. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES, AND WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. *AK
THE REAR END MAKES A THUMBING NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE SPEED REACHES 40 MPH AND FASTER. TIRES WERE REPLACED,BUT THE NOISE BECAME WORSE. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHO MAINTAINS THAT THERE IS MAJOR PROBLEM, AND THE REAR END HAS TO BE TAKEN APART. THERE IS RECALL 04V328000 FOR THE REAR AXLE FRACTURE THAT CONSUMER FEELS MIGHT BE THE CAUSE OF THE NOISE. *AK
2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO ENTER THE STREET, THE FRONT SUSPENSION MAKES CREAKING METALLIC SOUND. THE DEALER SAID THE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION. *JB
RENTAL AUTO WAS PARKED FACE OUT IN HOTEL PARKING LOT. DRIVER STARTED AUTO, DRIVER AND PASSENGER PUT ON SEAT BELTS; WITH FOOT ON BRAKE, DRIVER SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED A A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (TIRES SMOKING) ACROSS PARKING LOT DRIVEWAY AND CRASHED INTO TWO PARKED CARS IN OPPOSITE PARKING SPACES. BOTH PARKED CARS WERE DRIVEN BACK APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 15 FEET, ONE OF THE AUTOS WENT THROUGH HEDGES AND CRASHED INTO A CAR PARKED AT THE STREET. DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO STOP CAR, AND FINALLY TURNED OFF IGNITION AFTER COLLISION. WITNESS TO POLICE REPORT STATED THAT HEARD TIRES SCREECHING AND TIRES WERE STILL SMOKING AFTER AUTOS COLLIDED. CAR WAS TOWED TO HERTZ LOT. HAVE NOT GOTTEN REPORT OF CAUSE FROM HERTZ. THE ENTIRE EVENT FROM PLACING THE CAR IN DRIVE UNTIL IT STRUCK THE PARKED CARS TOOK ABOUT 2 SECONDS (THE AUTO TRAVELLED APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET TO IMPACT).*AK
THERE WAS A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE ENGINE, WHEN THE VEHICLE IDLED. *JB THERE WAS A GENERAL CHASSIS VIBRATION AT SPEEDS OF 38 WHICH WAS ATTRIBUTED TO OUT OF ROUNDS TIRES.*TS
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING DOWN A HEAVILY TRAVELED MAJOR THOROUGHFARE IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, WHEN HER 2003 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS STALLED. THE ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. AS THE VEHICLE DIED, SHE LOST THE POWER STEERING ON THIS 4,000 POUND VEHICLE. UNFORTUNATELY, SHE HAD HER TWO ELDERLY DISABLED PARENTS WITH HER. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 39, 527 MILES ON IT. THIS IS OUR THIRD MERCURY MARQUIS - AND WE LOVE THEM - BUT BOTH THE 1999 MODEL AND ESPECIALLY THIS 2003 MODEL HAS A SERIOUS PAINT PROBLEM. OUR LAST TWO CARS HAVE BEEN WHITE AND WE BARELY GOT THEM HOME WHEN THE PAINT, ESPECIALLY ON THE FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS, BEGAN TO PEEL. WHAT, IF ANYTHING, IS MERCURY DOING ABOUT THIS UNSIGHTLY, ANNOYING, AND FRUSTRATING PROBLEM??? WE ARE NOT CLASS ACTION TYPES BUT, AFTER PUTTING UP WITH THIS FOR SEVERAL YEARS, WE ARE READY TO REVOLT!

THE REAR AXLE WAS MAKING A GROWLING NOISE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR AN INSPECTION AND RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE REAR WHEELS COULD FALL OFF IF NOT REPAIRED. *JB
WE BOUGHT A USED 2003 MERCURY GR. MARQUIS,LS, IN SEP'T. 2003. TWO DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER, MACE LINCOLN MERCURY, 629 OHIO ST. TERRE HAUTE, IN. 47807, WORKED ON THE CAR 8 TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. I CONTACTED THE MERCURY COMPLAINT LINE TWICE. SCOTT SHEPARD, THE SERVICE MANAGER REQUESTED A FIELD ENGINEER FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THEY REFUSED TO SEND ONE, BUT TOLD HIM TO INSTALL A NEW COMPUTER, WHICH HE DID ON MARCH 26, 2004. THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN APRIL 23. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AT 16800 EXECUTIVE PLAZA DR. POB 6248, DEARBORN, MI. 48126 APRIL 27, 2004, WITHOUT RECEIVING A RESPONSE. BUT THE MACE SERVICE MANAGER SCOTT SHEPARD, SAID THEY CONTACTED HIM TO PERFORM ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC. MACE HAS HAD THE CAR FOR FURTHER WORK FROM MAY 4, UNTIL TODAY MAY 10, WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO REPAIR IT. NOW, THE MR. SHEPARD CALLS ME AND SAYS, HE JUST LEARNED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE THAT ALL 2003 GR. MARQUIS WERE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THIS SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. THEY HAVE PROMISED TO SEND A FIELD ENGINEER. THE WARRANTY FOR THE CAR IS FOR 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES. WE HAVE 27,000 MILES ON IT. IN THE 8 MONTHS WE HAVE HAD THE CAR, IT HAS BEEN WORKED ON 10 TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. I CANNOT GET THE GENERAL MANAGER, TERRY MACE TO HELP ME, NOR WILL THE MANUFACTURER ADDRESS ME DIRECTLY. I WANT ANOTHER [COMPARABLE] CAR OR MY MONEY BACK. I PAID $17,700 CASH FOR THE CAR. *LA
BRAKE PEDAL AND GAS PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSELY LOCATED. WHEN STEPPING ON BRAKE PEDAL CONSUMER CAN HIT THE GAS PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING UNDER RAINING CONDITIONS CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING. INSTRUMENT LIGHTS PANEL WAS OFF, AND WINDSHIELD WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER REPLACED TWO COMPUTERS IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM , BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. *AK
