I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND THE DASHBOARD "FRONT AIRBAG LIGHT" CAME ON AND A BEEPING SOUND BEGAN. SINCE MY VEHICLE IS A MERCURY AND THERE ARE NO MERCURY DEALERS NOW, I CALLED THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY SAY THAT WHEN THE LIGHT IS FLASHING IT MEANS MY AIRBAG IS NOT WORKING. IF I BRING THE VEHICLE IN, THEY WILL DIAGNOSE IT FOR $49 AND THEN TELL ME HOW MUCH IT WILL COST TO FIX IT. THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL AUTOMOTIVE FORUMS THAT DISCUSS THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY IT HAS BEEN A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION SINCE AT LEAST 2008. I'M CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND WILL MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE SITUATION ACCESSED AND THEN FIXED. HOWEVER IN TODAY'S ECONOMY, MANY PEOPLE WILL JUST LET THE LIGHT CONTINUE TO BE LIT AND DO NOTHING. THIS MEANS THAT THEIR AIRBAGS WILL BE INOPERABLE. I THINK EITHER NHTSA OR FORD SHOULD CONSIDER A RECALL ON THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT AIRBAG SYMBOL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE NECESSARY PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER FUSE WOULD BLOW WHEN USED, WHICH THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A WIRING FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000. UPDATED 11/10/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE WARNING BELL RINGS 20 TIMES WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE WARNING BELL WOULD RING 20 TIMES EVERY FEW MINUTES. THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE. THE CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND BUCKLE. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHEN HE PLUGGED HIS CELL PHONE INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER, IT BLEW A FUSE. UPDATED 11/16/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS WARNING LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000. FAILURE OF AIRBAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM WAS DIAGNOSED MAY 2011. FORD INDICATED REPAIR PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL OCTOBER 2011. BECAUSE OF INORDINATE TIME FRAME, 5 MONTHS OWNER REQUESTED FOR TO PROVIDE A VEHICLE UNTIL PARTS WERE SECURED. I AM CERTIFIED SAFETY PROFESSIONAL WITH OVER 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE WORKING IN THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY FIELD. TWICE WITHIN THE LAST WEEK, MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 5000 RPM WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. I HAD TO QUICKLY SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO AVOID ENTERING THE INTERSECTION INTO CROSSING TRAFFIC. BRAKES WOULD NOT HOLD. A FEW SECONDS AFTER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL THE ENGINE DECELERATED BACK TO NORMAL ON ITS OWN. CARPET WAS NOT THE ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS MALFUNCTION THAT COULD HAVE KILLED ME OR SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
MY 2006 GRAND MARQUIS ORIGINAL PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD DEVELOPED A CRACK AT THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR INTAKE BOLT AREA CAUSING IT TO LEAK ANTIFREEZE. THIS CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO SPEND $240.00 TO BUY A NEW DORMAN REPLACEMENT AND INSTALL IT. FORD CONTINUES TO USE THESE CHEAP PLASTIC MANIFOLDS DESPITE LOSING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM FOR THIS PROBLEM. THERE WILL BE MORE OF THESE PLASTIC MANIFOLD FAILING IN THE NEAR FUTURE TO BE SURE. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY A NEW CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT DUE TO FORDS CONTINUED INCOMPETENCE AS A MANUFACTURER. MY CAR ALSO SUFFERS FROM A DEFECTIVE EATC AIR CONDITIONER CONTROL THAT BLOWS AIR OUT OF THE WRONG VENTS AND WON'T ACTIVATE THE AC. ALSO A BOLT BROKE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT SEAT DUE TO RUST. ALSO THE DIGITAL COMPASS HAS QUIT WORKING. ALSO HAD A WATER LEAK IN THE BACK PASSENGER FLOOR AREA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. DURING TWO OF THE FAILURES THE CONTACT APPLIED EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ON ONE OCCASION THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,800.
Around 12 years ago, when my 2006 Marquis, which I purchased brand new, had only approximately 40,000 miles on it, the seatbelt-airbag system warning appeared on the instrument panel and a warning bell sound went off with a 3 beep then 2 beeps/ring tone that would sound whenever the vehicle was started for the next two minutes of driving. It would then stop but the yellow warning icon stays on. On a trip, while driving, it will do this every hour or so or 60 miles of driving, and has done this ever since. (I'm retired and drive very little, my vehicle as of today (5-13-2022) has only 54,462 actual miles on it.) I did some research when it first occurred and learned that the 3 - 2 beeps is a "code 32, seat belt pre-tensioner failure warning and will need immediate service and replacement." So I then called Ford and explained it as above. They told me that it is not their problem and are not acknowledging any responsibility and it will be up to me to see a dealer, which I did. I was told that it would require replacement of both my seat front seat belts, and possibly more including airbag components to the tune of several thousand dollars! I asked them, as I did Ford: As I've had many Ford vehicles, personal and company, several of which I've driven over 200K miles, without ever having a seat belt or airbag component failure, how is this MY problem and not Ford's, especially after only 40K miles? I had asked Ford these two most important questions: 1- "What did I do to CAUSE THIS FAILURE?" and 2- "What could I HAVE DONE TO PREVENT IT?" They refused to answer and only told me that I need to take it to a dealer to have it repaired. I have not pursued it as I didn't have the thousands of dollars the dealer wanted to charge me. This is wrong as it is part of Ford's refusal to acknowledge the faulty components in their seat belt/airbag systems, which has been putting my life at risk ever since their components' failure and Ford needs to be held responsible!
NO ABNORMAL OPERATION NOTED BEFORE EVENT. THE FAILURE IS SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT ON A 4.6L ENGINE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE IN A 2 WEEK TIME PERIOD ON THE SAME CYLINDER DAMAGING THE SPARK PLUG AND COIL PACK. FIRST INSTANCE WAS THE FACTORY INSTALLED SPARK PLUG. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER WAS INJURED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UP TO 50 MPH ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN EVEN AFTER THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND CONTINUED TO COAST UP THE HILL UNTIL IT CRASHED INTO A CURB. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE VEHICLE BUT NO FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD GET BACK WITH HIM FOR AN INVESTIGATION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,351.
I HAVE HAD 37 INSTANCES OF ENGINE ACCELERATION WHEN I BRAKE WITH MY 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE FIRST INSTANCE WAS IN MAY, 2007. I DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE ENGINE FIRST SLOWS TO APPROX 850 - 900 RPM THEN BEGINS RUNNING UP TO OVER 2500 RPM. THE DEALER SAYS I'M HITTING THE BRAKE AND THE GAS AT THE SAME TIME. I'VE TRIED DOING THAT AND IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I SUSPECT A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION WHERE THE BRAKING IS TRIGGERING A COMPUTER-INITIATED ENGINE ACCELERATION. *TR
CAR ACCELERATION ON ITS OWN, ESTIMATED START END OF DEC.2009. ESTIMATES THAT IT HAPPENS ONCE A MONTH, NO CLUE AS TO WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. GOING TO SLOW DOWN / PARK, CAR STARTS TO ACCELERATE ON ITS' OWN., HAVE TO PRESS HARD ON BRAKE AND USE 2 FEET.. BROUGHT CAR INTO DEALER 4 TIMES BETWEEN JAN THRU JUNE , AT THIS POINT. DEALER SAYS CAN'T FIND ANYTHING. *TR
SPORADICALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING, MY CRUISE CONTROL WILL ACTIVATE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO IMMEDIATELY ACCELERATE. I HAD BEEN USING THE CONTROL BUT HAD DE-ACTIVATED IT BUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE WHICH LEAVES THE UNIT "ON" BUT NOT ACTIVATED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD THE WIPER MOTOR REPLACED TWICE IN A NINE MONTH PERIOD. WHEN THE MOTOR MALFUNCTIONED DURING RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS WHICH MADE IT DIFFICULT TO SEE THE ROAD. THE LOCAL MECHANIC THAT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE STATED THAT SEVERAL FORD OWNERS ALSO HAD DEFECTIVE WIPER MOTORS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000. WAS GETTING ON HIGHWAY, ACCELERATED MORE THAN NORMAL TO PASS A VERY SLOW VEHICLE ENTERING HIGHWAY FROM 5 MPH ON HIGHWAY (ESTIMATE 80 TO 90% OF FULL THROTTLE), WHEN I WAS SAFE OF SLOW VEHICLE AND LET OFF THE PEDAL, VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO ABOUT 83 MPH AS I RECALL, I CONTINUED TO PRESS BRAKE, STILL ACCELERATING, PRESSED STEERING CONTROL BUTTONS TO MAKE SURE CRUISE CONTROL WAS OFF (DID NOT HAVE IT ON PREVIOUS TO THIS), PRESSED BRAKES AGAIN AND AGAIN, FINALLY VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN JUST BEFORE I WAS GOING TO TURN OF THE IGNITION. DID NOT HAVE THE CAR CHECKED OUT, DID NOT SMELL OR SEE ANYTHING IRREGULAR, VEHICLE INCREASE IN THE CONTINUED SPEED WAS FELT WITH SOME G-FORCE BEFORE IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL OPERATION. APPEARS THAT IT JUST WENT FULL THROTTLE ON ITS OWN I COULD FEEL IT REALLY MOVING. HAS ONLY OCCURRED ONCE, I ALSO EMAILED FORD REGARDING THIS ISSUE. LUCKILY IT WAS 5 A.M. IN THE MORNING NO HARM DONE, JUST FRIGHTENED. BOUGHT CAR USED @ 45 K INCIDENT OCCURRED AROUND 47,393 MILES. *TR
WHEN PARKING A NEWLY ACQUIRED USED 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS AT IDLE SPEED IN A LOCAL SHOPPING CENTER, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED AND THE HARDER I PRESSED THE BRAKE THE FASTER THE ENGINE RAN. TO THE EXTENT THE TRACTION CONTROL ACTIVATED AND THE WHEELS SPUN IN PLACE. THE ONLY WAY I PREVENTED CRASHING INTO THREE PARKED WAS TO SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE ENGINE RACING. WHAT APPARENTLY HAPPENED WAS MY FOOT WAS NOT CENTERED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE POINT WHERE I WAS ALSO PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. EVIDENTLY THE TRAVEL DISTANCE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS SO LONG I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MERCURY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT HE COULD NOT CORRECT IT BECAUSE THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE DEALERS TECHNICIAN REPORTED THAT MY COMPLAINT WAS THAT THE PEDALS SEEMED TO CLOSE TOGETHER. THIS MAY BE TRUE, BUT THE PROBLEM IN MY MIND IS THE TRAVEL DISTANCE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WAS ALSO TOLD FORD HAS NOT AS YET ISSUED A SOLUTION TO THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PLACING THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, THE GEAR LURCHES FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. THE CONTACT HAS TO SWITCH THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000. UPDATED 07/17/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED ON 2 OCCASIONS, HE STARTED THE VEHICLE; PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THE MOTOR RACED AND THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD. HE HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE CONSUMERS CONCERN. UPDATED 07/17/09.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AT 5 MPH, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND SHE SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. THE CONTACT HAS A COPY OF THE POLICE REPORT AND PICTURES OF THE FAILURE. AS OF OCTOBER 16, 2008, THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAVE NOT DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 24,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN UTILIZING THE CRUISE CONTROL AT 60 MPH AND HIGHER, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARRANT. HE WAS ABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE VIOLENTLY AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL USING THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. HE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO EITHER THE FLOOR MATS OR DRIVER ERROR WHERE THE CONTACT WAS MISTAKENLY HITTING THE CRUISE CONTROL RESUME BUTTON. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WHEN THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED. THE FAILURE FELT AS IF THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE BEING DEPRESSED SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE CONTACT'S WIFE ALSO ATTEMPTED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKES ONCE AND SHE STRUCK A STOP SIGN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED AS OF YET. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN SWITCHING GEARS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE JOLTS. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CONTACT HAD TO USE MAXIMUM PRESSURE IN ORDER TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THE ENGINE TACHOMETER INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS AT 2000 RPM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TACHOMETER IS NORMALLY AT 550 RPM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 9,000.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE FORD DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. PANEL BEHIND RIGHT WHEEL WELL IS LOOSE AND WHEN HEAVY RAIN AND WATER IS HEAVY ON HIGHWAY PANEL MAKES NOISE WHEN WATER HITS IT LIKE SOMETHING LOOSE AND MAKES A FLAPPING NOISE. I THINK ALL 2006 AND 2007 ARE THIS WAY. NOT RESOLVED. *JB

THE MORE PRESSURE THE CONSUMER APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL THE MORE THE ENGINE RACED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO TRAVEL FORWARD THROUGH THE CROSSWALK AND INTO THE STREET. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS IN THE CROSSWALK AND NO CARS WERE COMING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. THE CONSUMER HAS TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF TO GET IT TO STOP. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. HE HAD TO PUMP THE BRAKES TWICE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER COULD NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AGAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVEN PREVIOUS TIMES, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR OF THOSE TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE DRIVER'S FOOT MADE CONTACT WITH BOTH ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL AT THE SAME TIME. THIS DUAL CONTACT RESULTED IN UNWANTED ACCELERATION ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR WERE OPERATING NORMALLY.
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, UNWANTED ACCELERATION OCCURRED CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD. THE MANAGER OF THE REPAIR DEPARTMENT TOOK A RIDE WITH ME TO SEE IF MY FOOT HIT BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE GAS PEDAL. HE ACKNOWLEDGED IT WAS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. THE REPAIR DEPT. COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. NOTHING WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN (5TH TIME) WHEN I HAD TWO OF MY GRANDCHILDREN WITH ME! I HAVE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALERSHIP. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WERE THREE SEPARATE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRST PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN THE AUTOMATIC PEDAL ADJUSTER WAS BEING USED THE ENGINE REVVED. THE SECOND OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS, AFTER SEVERAL MILES OF DRIVING IN THIS CONDITION, THE CONTACT PRESSED AND RELEASED THE PEDAL AND IT SUDDENLY RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. WHILE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC DRIVING AT 20 MPH THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD, WHILE THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. SEATBELTS WERE IN USE; NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED TO THE FOUR OCCUPANTS OF THE CONTACTS VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE POLICE WERE ON SCENE BUT NO REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE RENTAL AGENCY AND ANOTHER MODEL WAS ISSUED.

THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONSUMER STATED ONE INCIDENT IS WHEN A PEDESTRIAN WAS CROSSING THE STREET IN FRONT OF THE CAR THE CONSUMER HAD TO JAM ON THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING THE PEDESTRIAN. THE CONSUMER STATED THEY FEEL THIS IS A BIG SAFETY HAZARD AND WOULD LIKE THE PROBLEM ASSESSED. *TR
WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE EACH MORNING ON THE 2006 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS IT REVVED TO 2000 RPMS FOR 5 OR 6 SECONDS, THEN DOWN TO 1000 RPMS FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS, THEN DOWN TO NORMAL. IT SEEMED TO ME IT WAS GOING TO DAMAGE THE ENGINE REVVING SO HIGH WHEN THE ENGINE WAS COLD AND VERY LITTLE OIL IN THE UPPER PORTION. WHAT COULD BE DONE ABOUT LOWERING THE STARTING TO REV. *AK
