TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON START OF THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL INTERMITTENTLY SHOOK WITHOUT WARNING. RECENTLY, THE POWER ASSIST FAULT WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 178,000.
MY VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTY IN STOPPING, NEEDING THE PEDAL TO BE PRESSED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPPED. I CHANGED THE MASTER CYLINDER IN HOPES THAT IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT DIDN'T. THE BRAKES PERIODICALLY WOULD WORK PROPERLY, BUT ONCE AGAIN THE PROBLEM WOULD RETURN. I STOPPED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE 2008 MERCURY MILAN WAS RECALLED FOR THIS DEFECT, HOWEVER, MY 2008 MARINER WASN'T ON THE LIST TO BE RECALLED. THE DEALERSHIP ADDED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WAS ON BACK ORDER. I STILL DRIVE THE CAR BUT CAUTIOUS WHENEVER I NEED TO BRAKE.
RE:NHTSA IDENTIFIER 19V904 FORD INTERNAL REFERENCE NUMBER:19S54 ALTHOUGH MERCURY MARINERS ARE NOT LISTED IN THIS RECALL, MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, STICKING ABS VALVE. FORD WILL NOT RECOGNIZE MY VEHICLE AS PART OF THIS RECALL. I HAVE HAD 2 DIFFERENT CERTIFIED MECHANICS WORK ON THE VEHICLE AND BOTH MECHANICS HAVE INSTALLED NEW BRAKE BOOSTERS, BRAKE PADS AND MASTER CYLINDERS. THE RESULTS FROM THEIR WORK DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE OF SOFT BRAKES. THE PROBLEM BEGAN WHEN I MADE AN ABRUPT STOP WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. THE BRAKES WERE NEVER FULLY FUNCTIONAL AFTER THAT. I BELIEVE THE SITUATION WITH MY MARINER IS IDENTICAL TO THE ISSUE IDENTIFIED IN THE NHTSA IDENTIFIER 19V904. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT MERCURY MARINERS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THIS FORD RECALL.

THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 127,816.
ON THE HIGHWAY AND STREET MY LEFT TIRE SHAKES BUT MY WHEEL DOESN'T THEN MY POWERTRAIN FAULT
I REALIZED SOMETIME LAST YEAR THAT MY THROTTLE WAS STICKING WHEN I WOULD START THE CAR AND BEGIN TO TAKE OFF. IT WAS HERE AND THERE AND THEN I MUST HAVE GOTTEN USE TO IT BUT NOW IT DOES IT EVEN WHEN I'M DRIVING, IT STICKS ALL THE TIME. NOW IT DOESN'T WANT TO SHIFT AT THE RIGHT TIMES AND IT ACTS WEIRD A LOT, GOING UP HILLS, WHEN SHIFTING FROM GEARS AND SO ON.
I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES. WHEN I STEP ON THE BRAKE THE PEDAL WOULD GO ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WOULD REACT BY PUMPING THE BRAKE WHICH WOULD MAKE THEM WORK. I DIDN'T DRIVE WITH THE BRAKES DOING THAT VERY LONG BECAUSE I TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP AND I SPENT 450 DOLLARS ON BRAKE WORK WITH BEING TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM AND THE DISABLED THE ABS SYSTEM SO THAT IT DIDN'T INTERFERE WITH STOPPING THE CAR. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON OTHER FORD PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF ABS PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING EVERY TIME I WANTED TO STOP AND WHEN I STOPPED FOR A LIGHT I FELT LIKE THE BRAKES MIGHT QUIT WORKING AND THE CAR COULD ENTER THE INTERSECTION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING OF THE VEHICLE WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING, THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING AND THE SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, NOW IT HAS GONE OUT AND I AM STUCK PAYING ALMOST $2000.00 IN REPAIRS. *TR
BRAKES SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. A MESSAGE APPEARS 'REGEN BRAKES DISABLED, CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM'. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD HCU AND MASTER CYLINDER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED $4000 REPAIR. NOT ACCEPTABLE SEEING SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE THAT FORD HAS NOT YET ISSUED A RECALL. *TR
MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CAME HOME SAYING A MESSAGE WAS ON HER DASH ABOUT HER BRAKES IN OUR 2008 MERCURY MARINER HYBRID. I WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE SO I DECIDED TO TAKE HER CAR, AS SOON AS I PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND STARTED DOWN THE HILL WE LIVE ON, I NOTICED THE BRAKES DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT, I PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO GET THE CAR TO SLOWLY COME TO A STOP, AS I DID THIS, I NOTICED A WARNING SOUND AND THE MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN SAID CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM, REGEN BRAKES DISABLED. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR AROUND AND WENT HOME, WHEN TRYING TO STOP IN OUR DRIVEWAY, AGAIN THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY CAUSING US TO ALMOST HIT THE OTHER CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY. THIS IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING AS THIS CAR IS OUR 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS CAR. ONCE YOU GET THE CAR TO STOP, IF THE CAR IS POWERED OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND BACK ON THE BRAKES WORK AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY 5/16/2020, THE CAR HAS 120K MILES.
BRAKES ARE INTERMITTENT, ABS LIGHT WILL COME ON ALONG WITH RED BRAKE LIGHT AND HYBRID REGEN BRAKES DISABLED. SOMETIMES CAR STOPS SOMETIMES CAR DOES NOT STOP. I HAVE LOOKED INTO IT AND SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED FAILURE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW SUCH A WELL DOCUMENTED OE FAILURE CAN GO FOR SO LONG WITHOUT RECTIFICATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO FAIL TO MOVE WITH EASE. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MATTHEWS FORD (1101 W SW EXPY DR, BROKEN ARROW, OK 74012) BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 217,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND MY POWER. STEERING ASSIST STOPPED WORKING AND DISPLAYED IT ON THE DASH. MY POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY GONE. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH THERE WAS A RECALL PREVIOUSLY FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL SPECIFICALLY FOR THE POWER STEERING ASSIST BUT I WAS TOLD THAT ACCORDING TO MY VINTAGE NUMBER MY VEHICLE WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. *TR
THE CAR WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (A CITY STREET, NOT A HIGHWAY) AND A TRIANGULAR LIGHT CAME ON THE DASH, ALONG WITH A MESSAGE TO STOP SAFELY. THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AND I HAD TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT. THIS HAD HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY AND I HAD PAID A DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE HYBRID COOLING PUMP. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THIS PART HAD BEEN RECALLED AND WAS REIMBURSED BY THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE ORIGINAL REPAIR. THE SAME PART HAS FAILED AGAIN ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT UPON CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER, THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE PART AGAIN.
MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT IT WAS RELATED TO THE POWER STEERING RECALL THEY DID ON THIS TYPE OF CAR. BUT WHEN I PUT IN MY VIN IT SAID THIS CAR WAS NOT RECALLED. SO I AM WONDERING IF YOU GUYS SKIPPED OVER MY VEHICLE. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF YOU WOULD LOOK INTO THIS. THANK YOU.
THE CAR IS REVING HIGH AND ACCELERATING POORLY. THEN THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT TELLING ME TO STOP SAFETY NOW COMES ON CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER AND SHUT CAR OFF. I TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND IT DRIVES BUT WITH SAME ISSUES. LOOK ON THE CARCOMPLAINT.COM WEBSITE FOR TSB-09-19-12 AND TSB-08-24-5 WHICH DETAIL WHAT MY CAR IS DOING AND MAKES IT APPEAR LIKE THERE IS A COOLING PUMP RECALL. FORD JUST TOLD ME THERE ARE NO RECALLS LISTED FOR MY VIN THOUGH. THE FREQUENCY OF WHICH THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT COMES ON IS INCREASING THIS MONTH. IT WAS EVERY FEW MONTHS AND NOW IT IS WEEKLY-DAILY.
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE A FEW MONTHS AGO. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 75 MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE. I BECAME SCARED AS I THOUGHT I MIGHT CRASH WHEN I STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND TRY TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. STEERING THE CAR EVEN TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAS HARD FOR ME. THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN SHAKES WHEN IT'S IN IDLE. I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AS UPON MY GOOLE SEARCH, IT SHOWED AN OLD RECALL WITH THIS SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHO GAVE ME THE CODE OF B2278 WHICH IS STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR WHICH WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO BE HARD TO STEER. I LOOKED BACK AT PAST COMPLAINTS AND IT SHOWS SEVERAL OWNERS HAVING THE SAME STEERING ISSUE BUT DID NOT REPORT IT TO THE MANUFACTURER. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT WHEN THE RECALL WAS ACTIVE THAT THIS ISSUE WAS REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. I CALLED FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE SO THAT LEAVES ME TO GET THIS REPAIRED WHICH WILL BE SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS I DON'T HAVE. I COMPLETED FURTHER RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE IS NO STATUE OF LIMITATIONS ON ANY RECALL AND IN FACT I HAVE 10 TO 15 YEARS AFTER AN ACTIVE RECALL TO HAVE THE RECALLED ISSUE REPAIRED BUT NO ONE WILL HONOR THIS. WHAT CAN I DO?

THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE' MESSAGE SUDDENLY OCCURRED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000(STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 215,000.
JERKING BACK AND FORTH OF STEERING WHEEL WOULD OCCUR OCCASIONALLY UNTIL POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE FAILED. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CODE WOULD COME ON EVERY SO OFTEN . I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHILE THE CODE CAME ON AND DIDN'T NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE IN STEERING DIFFICULTY UNTIL I PARKED THE CAR AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF THEN BACK ON. POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY FAILING NOW RESULTING IN INCREASED FORCE TO GET THE CAR TO TURN.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

LOST MY POWER STEERING ON THE FREEWAY. PROBLEM: STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM FAILURE - RECALL #14V284000 DATE OF RECALL 05/29/2014 SAFETY RECALL 14S05 STEERING PROBLEM FORD CLAIMED THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND I HAD TO PAY $2100 FOR THIS REPAIR. THE PART REPLACE WERE ON THE RECALL NOTICE!!I I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM CARUSO IN FEB 2017 WITH 52,000 MILES AND THE CARFAX SUPPLIED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE HAD NO RECALLS LISTED ON IT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 76600 MILE NOW. I HAVE OPENED A CLAIM WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY BUT THEY TOLD THE SERVICE I WAS NOT COVERED. THEY REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY. POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY GOES OUT LIKE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS ESCAPES AND MARINERS. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY.
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY VEHICLE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUES WITH OTHER MERCURY MARINER BUT APPEARS MINE IS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL HOWEVER I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS THE RECALL.
I DROVE MY 2008 MERCURY MARINER TO THE GAS STATION LAST WEEK AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON READING POWER STEERING SENSOR ASSIST FAULT. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY DIAGNOSED THE STEERING SENSOR NEEDED REPLACED, SO THEY ORDERED THE PART AND INSTALLED THE NEW SENSOR. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME THAT THE SENSOR WAS NOT THE ISSUE, AND THAT I ACTUALLY NEED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN AND HOUSING UNIT. I WAS ORIGINALLY QUOTED FOR THE SENSOR & LABOR $779, WHICH THEY WERE NOT GOING TO CHARGE ME FOR SINCE IT WAS AN INCORRECT DIAGNOSIS. BUT, TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN & HOUSING I WAS NOW QUOTED $2100.00. I HAD NOTICED ON WEB SITE SEARCHES THAT THERE IS RECALLS FOR STEERING ISSUES ON 2008 MERCURY MARINER. I ENTERED MY VIN NUMBER AND NOTHING IS COMING UP, I ALSO QUESTIONED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT READING THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND ALSO ASKED ABOUT IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE, I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NONE. I JUST CAN'T FATHOM MY ISSUE HAS GONE FROM $779 TO $2100 ON A SENSOR ISSUE TO A REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND HOUSING. I'M HOPING FOR SOME RESULTS BY SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT. THANK YOU
ABS AND REGEN BRAKES DISABLED WARNING LIGHTS WENT ON WHEN STARTING CAR FROM PARKED POSITION; HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY FORD DEALER AND ON LINE REPORTS BY CAR OWNERS THAT BRAKES CAN FAIL AND WE SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR. REPLACING REGEN BRAKE SYSTEM MORE THAN 6K ; THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM REQUIRING MANUFACTURER RECALL;
DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN STEERING ASSIST FAULT INDICATOR CAME ON AND LOSS POWER STEERING. RECALL ON VEHICLE WAS COMPLETED IN 2014 FOR POSSIBLE PROBLEM OF LOSING POWER STEERING. NOW HAVE NO POWER STEERING. TOOK IT TO GARAGE AND MECHANIC SAID THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE WAS FAULTY. THOUGHT THE RECALL IN 2014 WAS TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING.

MY CAR KEEPS SAYING "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". MY WHEEL GAVE OUT SEVERAL OF TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND NOW I'M TERRIFIED 😬. IT DID IT AGAIN TONIGHT WHILE I JUST TOOK A SPIN AROUND THE CORNER. I ONLY HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS! PLEASE TELL ME THAT IT'S A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN TRAFFIC AND HAD A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING, MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PULL OVER OR GET OFF THE HIGHWAY.
DEFECTIVE PART ON THE STEERING WHEEL WAS REPLACED AT 111,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT 176,000 MILES AND THE PART NEEDS REPLACED AGAIN. POWER ASSIST MECHANISM. WE HAVE NO POWER STEERING. FORD SAID THEY WON'T REPLACE IT, IT HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT.
ABS LIGHT ,REGEN BRAKES DISABLED AND CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM MESSAGE COMES ON AT ANYTIME WHILE DRIVING. LOSE BRAKING POWER, CAUSING DRIVER TO PUSH BRAKE VERY HARD TO STOP AND BRAKE PEDAL SOMETIMES GOES TO THE FLOOR. WHEN CAR STOPS SOMETIMES IT WON'T RESTART FOR DAYS. IT HAS A NEW BATTERY. COOLANT CODE COMES ON ALSO AND THE CAR ISN'T RUNNING HOT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS A RECALL. OTHER THAN THAT THE CAR RUNS GREAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO TURN RIGHT AND LEFT INDEPENDENTLY. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS POWERED OFF AND WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CAMELBACK FORD (1330 E CAMELBACK RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85014, (605) 635-7551) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE REPAIR FEES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.

RECENTLY, UPON REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AS THE POWER ASSIST FAULT WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER RECALL. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHCILE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,271.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED THERE WAS THERE WAS A HESITATION IN RESPONSE TO THE WHEELS RESPONDING. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A CLICKING SOUND IN THE STEERING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLICKING SOUND EMITTED FROM THE INTERMITTENT SHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS, BRAKE ROTORS, AND PROVIDED AN ALIGNMENT. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,184.
THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND INDICATED "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED". I BRAKED WHEN I CAME TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ENDED UP SKIDDING INTO THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER ADVISED TO REPLACE THE HCU FOR $5000. THE UNIT HAS 55K MILES ON IT. THIS HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS, MOSTLY IN THE SUMMER WHEN IT IS HOT AND HUMID, ALTHOUGH JUST TODAY IT HAPPENED AGAIN (IT WAS 35 DEGREES ALL DAY). I COULDN'T STOP IN TIME AND RAN OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE MEDIAN. SOME ONLINE RESEARCH HAS INDICATED THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE HCU, BUT THE SENSORS (REPLACING THE HCU REESTABLISHES A GOOD CONNECTION WITH THE SENSORS)., BUT THE FORD DEALER KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THIS FIX BECAUSE IT'S MUCH CHEAPER. SO, I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS TRAIN WRECK AND HOPE I'M NOT IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHEN IT COMES TO A STOP, MID TURN, SLOWING DOWN, AND SOMETIMES ACCELERATING. SEVERAL WEBSITES SHOW 100'S OF COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. IT IS A MAY SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IT DIES AT ANY POINT WHILE DRIVING.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE BAJA PENINSULA MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND MAKE STRANGE NOISES. SHORTLY AFTER I LOST ALL POWER STEERING MAKING NAVIGATION OVER THE MOUNTAIN ROADS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND HARD. ONCE HOME IN THE US I CONTACTED A LOCAL FORD/MERCURY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN SATISFIED. BUT NOW I'M SEEING HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT STEERING ISSUES OCCURRING WITHIN THE SAME TIME FRAME AS MY OWN.
ON 6/8/2019 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE SET WITH MY DISABLED SON IN VEHICLE THE CAR PULLED BADLY TO ONE SIDE. I IMMEDIATELY BRAKED AND IT TOOK ALL MY STRENGTH TO GET US OFF THE ROAD. FRONT AXLE HAS ALREADY BEEN REPLACED 2 YEARS AGO. NOW DEALER IS SAYING TRANSMISSION BLEW AND IS OUT WHICH CAUSED FRONT AXLE TO FAIL WHILE DRIVING. REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP HAVE BEEN DONE. BUILT CAR AND ONLY DRIVER USUALLY CITY MILES. 2008 WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY WE ALMOST FLIPPED.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
POWER STEERING ASSIST MODULE STOPED WORKING FOR NO REASON WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS WITH THIS PROBLEM MY MECHANIC IS TELLING ME IT IS A 50% CHANCE I MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN.
IGNITION SWITCH TEETH MESSED UP CAUSING THE KEY TO NOT TURN CORRECTLY. GAS PEDAL STICKS WHEN IT'S COLD OUTSIDE. IF YOU HIT A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOSE TRACTION CONTROL, ABS SYSTEM GOES OUT, AND BRAKES GET REALLY SOFT AND AIR BAG LIGHTS COME ON. TRANSMISSION BOGS OUT WITH 2ND GEAR.
I CALLED FORD AFTER THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE COULD NOT TURN. IT WAS PARALLEL PARKED ALONG SIDE A STREET, AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD. THE WHEEL WAS MAKING LOUD, GRUNTING NOISES AND SHAKING PROFUSELY. I LOOKED UP AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL FOR MERCURY MARINER 2008 MODELS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH OLIVER HOGG, A SERVICE CONSULTANT AT LINDSAY FORD OF WHEATON AND DISCUSSED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT IT SEEMED TO BE EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME IT WOULD BE COVERED BY FORD IF THAT WAS THE ISSUE, IF NOT, I WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COST AND DIAGNOSTIC. THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT STATED, "C/S STEERING IS MAKING NOISE AND DISPLAY READS STEERING ASSIST FAULT--TOWED IN. CAN FOR CODES (B2278 STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR FAULT (FOUND STEERING HARD AND COLUMN MOTOR CHATTER). REPLACE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (PART #CL8Z3C529D) (FOUND STEERING HARD AND COLUMN MOTOR CHATTER). LINDSAY FORD OF WHEATON QUOTED ME $2,385.18 FOR THE LISTED ISSUES. HE SAID MY VIN NUMBER WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, AND THERE WAS NOT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE PARTS, SO I WAS OUT OF LUCK. I FIND THIS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE, AFTER LEARNING OF ALL OF THE OTHER MERCURY MARINERS OF 2008 TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, AND EVEN WITH THE RECALL. THIS IS UNSAFE, AND A PRODUCT OF FORD MANUFACTURING, AND SHOULD BE RESOLVED WITHIN FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN FROM A CITY STREET INTO A PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 10MPH. I RESPONDED TO FORD/MERCURY'S INITIAL RECALL SEVERAL YEARS AGO, TAKING THE TO MIDWAY FORD (ROSEVILLE MN). THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE PERFORMED WHATEVER WAS REQUIRED TO ADDRESS THE POWER STEERING RECALL. ADMITTEDLY, I WAS UNSURE WHAT THIS REQUIRED AT THE TIME. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I WAS UNAWARE THIS COULD POSSIBLY HAVE RELATED TO THE INITIAL RECALL. AFTER I PAID FOR A DIAGNOSIS AT THE SAME DEALER, I WAS TOLD THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN. I OBTAINED A SECOND OPINION FROM A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO REMEDIED THE ISSUE BY PUTTING IN A NEW BATTERY. NEW BATTERY IN, POWER STEERING RETURNED. NOW, TWO YEARS LATER, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED YET AGAIN. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS, JUST A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. IT'S CLEAR WHATEVER "FIX" THE DEALERSHIP DID WHEN I TOOK IT IN AFTER RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE DID NOT ADDRESS WHATEVER THE PERSISTENT ISSUE IS WITH THE POWER STEERING. I KNOW THIS NOW AFTER READING *DOZENS* OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. I ALSO SEE FROM READING THESE COMPLAINTS THAT THE DEALER WILL SURELY NOT COVER THE COST OF A FIX AT THIS TIME, BY CLAIMING THE RECALL ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED PREVIOUSLY - WHICH, IT'S APPARENT IT WAS NOT. I'M DONE WITH FORD AUTOS AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE. THIS IS UNJUST AND UNSAFE.
