STERRING ASSIST FAULT. ALL READY RECALLED AND FIXED BUT SAME PROBLEM REOCCURRED
BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE, ABS FAILURE. HALF OR MORE OF BRAKING POWER DIMINISHES. WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD, VEHICLES TRIES STOPPING ITSELF, CREATING A FRONT END WOBBLE. WHEN HAVING TO USE THE BRAKES, TIRES SKID. CANNOT STOP VEHICLE QUICKLY, VERY DANGEROUS. CONSTANT BRAKE SMELL. BRAKE PADS WEAR OR DISINTEGRATE WITHIN 3 MONTHS. PROBLEM WILL NOT GO AWAY WAS INTERMITTENT AT FIRST, BUT NOW CONSTANT. FORD DEALERSHIP REPORTS PART IS $6200 DOLLARS. THE VEHICLE IS NOT WORTH THAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATE ABNORMALLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST ABILITY AND VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GUIDE THE VEHICLE OFF OF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR AND POSSIBLY THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
FORD REPROGRAMMED COMPUTER, WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. DRIVING VEHICLE AND POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE OCCURRED.
WE HAVE HAD A 2008 MERCURY MARINER FOR LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND I WAS DRIVING AND THE POWERSTEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS TRYING TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE HIGHWAY TO GET MYSELF AND MY 3 CHILDREN HOME AND I COULDN'T STEER IT WAS TO HARD COME TO FIND OUT THERE WAS A TORQUE SENSOR RECALLED FOR THIS CAR BUT WHEN I RUN THE VIN SAYS NO RECALL AND I NOTICED THERE WERE OTHERS WHO COMPLAINED OF THIS SAME PROBLEM THAT THEY WERE TOLD IT WASN'T RECALL FOR THEIR 08 MERCURY EITHER BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM THIS COULD CAUSE A CRASH SO THANKFUL IT QUIT WORKING BEFORE I GOT ON THE HIGH WAY AT HIGHER SPEED COULD HAVE CRASHED WITH MY BABIES SO I'M CONFUSED WHY THERE IS NO RECALL SINCE OTHERS WITH THE 08 MERCURY HAD SAME PROBLEM AND FORD SAID THEIRS WASN'T A RECALL YET OBVIOUSLY IT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO SINCE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE PROBLEM TOO.
ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE IN DRIVIVG AWAY FROM MY HOUSE WITH NO WARNING OR SENSOR NOTIFICATION. I CHECKED ALL THE FUSES THEY WHERE FINE THERES NO POWER TO MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING.
POWER STEERING SEIZES AND REVERTS TO MANUAL MOVEMENT. CAR HAS TO BE TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON FOR NORMAL STEERING TO RETURN. STEERING WHEEL WILL JERK AND JUMP WHEN STOPPED.
POWER STEERING TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL NOTICE
THE POWER STEERING STOP WORKING
I PARKED MY CAR, AND UPON RETURNING I STARTED IT, AND RECEIVED A WARING STATING THAT THERE WAS A "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". FROM THAT MOMENT, I HAVE NO POWER STEERING AND THE VEHICLE IS EXTREMELY HARD TO STEER. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC, HE PLUGGED IN HIS CODE READER AND CLEARED THE CODE, WHICH BROUGHT THE POWER STEERING BACK ON LINE. SOME TIME LATER, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AGAIN, TO WHICH MY MECHANIC CLEARED THE WARNING CODE, AND THE POWER STEERING WAS BROUGHT BACK ONLINE. THE STEERING ASSIST CONTINUES TO FAIL, AND IT GOT TOO EXPENSIVE TO HAVE MY MECHANIC CLEAR THE CODE CONTINUALLY. I'VE ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE WITH FORD, AND THEY STATE THAT THE POWER STEERING RECALL 14V284000 SERVICE HAS ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED ON MY CAR, BUT OBVIOUSLY IT DIDN'T PREVENT THE LOSS OF THE STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM. FORD STATES THAT I AM NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST TO REPAIR THE LOSS OF A SYSTEM THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF AS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THEIR PRODUCT. WHY WOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF FIXING SOMETHING THAT THEIR REPAIR WAS INSUFFICIENT AT PREVENTING? ARE THEY NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING AN ACTUAL SOLUTION TO THE RECALL ITEM, NOT JUST A TEMPORARY FIX TO SATISFY THE RECALL REQUIREMENT? MY MILAGE AND DATES OF OCCURRENCE ARE ESTIMATIONS, AS I DO NOT REMEMBER THE ACTUAL DATE OF THE INITIAL FAILURE.

THE DEALER (KOONS SILVER SPRING FORD, 3111 AUTOMOBILE BLVD #1, SILVER SPRING, MD 20904, (855) 458-6764) DIAGNOSED THAT A NEW STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY AND IGNITION HOUSING ASSEMBLY WERE NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
THE POWER STRING STOPS FUNCTIONING WHILE DRIVING..VERY SERIOUS ISSUE.

THE CONTACT CALLED PACIFICO FORD AT 267-233-6945 (LOCATED AT 6701 ESSINGTON AVE, PHILADELPHIA, PA 19153), BUT NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE. THE CONTACT WALKED TO THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 135,000.
MY MERCURY MARINER STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND SHAKE AND MY SYSTEM CHECK SCREEN SAID "STEERING ASSIST " AS A PROBLEM . THIS IS A RECALL BUT MY VIN FOR SOME REASON SAID IT HAD NO RECALLS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO SHAKE AROUND 35 MILES PER HOUR. IT WAS BECOMING DIFFICULT TO STEER SO I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AFTER BEING CHARGED FOR A DIAGNOSIS THEY STATED IT WAS THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR. THEY STATED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR MY MAKE AND MODEL BUT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. HOW CAN ONLY SOME VIN'S BE INCLUDED BUT NOT ALL? AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH MYSELF I'VE SEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT NOT EVERYONE IS ABLE TO GET IT RESOLVED THROUGH THE RECALL.

I WAS ATTEMPTING TO DEPART A RESTAURANT PARKING LOT, WHEN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING THE POWER STEERING ON MY VEHICLE FAILED. THIS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AND SURELY WOULD HAVE IF THE PARKING LOT HAD BEEN MORE FULL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SAFETY CAMPAIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
THE STEERING BOX TORQUE SENSOR WAS A PART OF THE 2014 FORD RECAL. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE SENSOR REPLAIRED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECALL IN NOVEMBER OF 2014.. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS USED IN DECEMBER OF 2017. IN DECEMBER 2018 THE SENSOR FAILED AGAIN WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING TO BECOME HARD TO OPERATE; EXACTLY 4 YEARS AND 1 MONTH AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL REPAIR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD REPAIR SHOP AND WAS INFORMED, AFTER BEING CHARGED $75.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WOULD NOT BE HONORED BECAUSE OF THE PREVIOUS REMEDY PERFORMED IN 2014. IF THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED WHY DOES 4 YEARS AND 1 MONTH LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS? APPARENTLY THE FAULTY SENSOR WAS NOT FIXED.

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL HAD OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE POWER STEERING BECAME INTERMITTENT WHILE DRIVING IN THE SNOW AND THEN A FULL LOSS OF ALL POWER ASSIST TO THE STEERING. VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER DURING SLOW SPEEDS.

THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED IN 2016 PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) DUE TO INTERMITTENT SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. AT THAT TIME, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY MAC HAIK'S SOUTHWAY FORD (7979 INTERSTATE 35 ACCESS ROAD, SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS 78224, (210) 922-2222) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,600.
I lost all braking ability and the pedal goes to the floor. This is a Mercury Mariner Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid issue, it doesn't affect the non-hybrid models. Ford knows about this as there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints online about it and it's a $5000+ fix. I have not been able to drive my Mariner Hybrid since 2018.

I FOUND A RECALL LISTING IN 2014 #14S05 FOR THIS SAME ISSUE FOR THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL AS MY VEHICLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BOTH FORD MOTOR CO. AND MY LOCAL.DEALERSHIO, THAT MY VEHICLE.DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR A RECALL. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THIS FAILURE, NO ENGINE LIGHTS OR WARNINGS WE'RE ONPRIOR TO OPERATING THE VEHICLE.
NOV 1 2018 MY MERCURY MARINER PREMIER WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY QUIT PULLING NO WARNING LIGHTS NO OTHER WARNING SIGNS IT NEVER SLIPPED GEARS JUST QUIT, I NOTICED AFTER LETTING IT SIT A DAY I TRIED IT AGAIN AND IT WENT NOT EVEN A MILE AND QUIT MOVING THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY MODEL AND YR VEHICLE IN 2015 REGARDING TRANSMISSION ISSUES BUT I WAS NEVER TOLD OF THIS

THE STEERING GEAR LOST ELECTRIC POWER AND WON'T START.
TAKATA RECALL THIS CAR HAD A RECALL IN 2014 ABOUT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER IN 2016 THEY CHANGED THE PART. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM NOW THE STEERING COULDN'T MOVE WHILE I WAS DRIVING I ALMOST HAD A CAR ACCIDENT.
THE TAILGATE HINGES ARE BREAKING THAT HOLD THE REAR WINDOW, THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THE WINDOW WILL FALL OUT AND COULD HIT ANOTHER VEHICLES WINDSHIELD. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE, WHEN YOU GO TO DEALER THEY WANT 320.00 TO REPAIR AND SAY THEY SELL MANY OF THESE BRAKETS IT REALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALL. WE HAVE TWO CARS WITH SAME DEFECT.

ELEVENTH ST, NILES, MI) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED IN FEBRUARY OF 2015 PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
HCU (HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT) FAILURE MEANING MY HYBRID VEHICLE CAN'T BRAKE WHETHER IN HYBRID MODE OR NORMAL MODE AND IT'S OVER A $5000 REPAIR. MY MARINER HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR CLOSE TO 2 YEARS NOW, UNUSED, BECAUSE OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THIS PROBLEM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ADDRESSED BY A PREVIOUS RECALL IN 2004. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN AUGUST 2017 AND EXACTLY ONE YEAR LATER THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH A COPY OF THE RECALL NOTICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN ADDRESSED WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. IN RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM, I HAVE ENCOUNTERED INFORMATION THAT THE REOCCURRENCE OF THIS ISSUE IS A PROBLEM AFTER THE SO-CALLED FIX. THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING ON THE HIGHWAY. IN ADDITION, THE CARFAX VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT DOESN'T SHOW THE REPAIR EVER BEING DONE.
FORD'S RECALL "CODE 14S19" ON 2005-2008 MARINER HYBRIDS AND ESCAPE HYBRIDS SHOULD COVER ALL OF THESE HYBRIDS BUT IT HAS EXCEPTIONS! FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL ON *SOME* OF THE 2005-2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS AND *SOME* OF THE CORRESPONDING MERCURY MARINER HYBRIDS. HOWEVER THEY ARE REFUSING TO ISSUE A RECALL ON MY PARTICULAR 2008 MARINER HYBRID (WHICH IS EXHIBITING THE ELECTRONIC OVERHEATING PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL WHERE THE STOP SAFELY NOW COMES ON AND THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER). THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX MY MARINER JUST BECAUSE THE VIN NUMBER DOES NOT MATCH THE PARTICULAR MANUFACTURING LOT COVERED BY THE ORIGINAL FORD RECALL - THOUGH MY SUV DOES FALL IN THE DATE RANGE MENTIONED IN THE RECALL) I AM CERTAIN THIS RECALL SHOULD COVER MORE HYBRID SUV THAN FORD HAS ADMITTED TO, AND SINCE THE MARINERS HAD A VERY LIMITED PRODUCTION RUN, IT IS LESS LIKELY THAT THERE WIL BE A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS DUE TO THIS VERY SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING ISSUE - AND I WOULD LIKE TO EMPHASIZE THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS INCLUDING ON NHTSA. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR ON MY VEHICLE I PURCHASED FROM A USED CAR LOT. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE RECALL "FIXED" WHICH FORD SAID WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE IN 2014. MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING AND MAKING A TICKING NOISE SO I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THIS SAME PART AS THE PROBLEM ALSO STATING IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, NOT JUST "SOFTWARE UPDATED" WHICH IS NOT WHAT WAS DONE IN 2014. I CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY TO SEE IF THEY WOULD FIX IT AND WAS TOLD IT WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY "REPAIRED" IN 2014. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS YOUR STEERING WHEEL CAN SEIZE UP WITH NO WARNING WHILE DRIVING. DO THEY NOT HAVE TO FIX A SAFETY RECALL? A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS NOT "FIXING" THE PROBLEM WHEN THE ACTUAL PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE HELP!!
TOOK TO DEALER FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. POOR AND UNPREDICTABLE STOPPING, AFTER OVER $ 500 REPAIRS TO BRAKES. WORKED OK FOR A WEEK NOW WORST THAN THEY WERE BEFORE REPAIRS.BRAKES CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

THERE WAS NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY A DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.
LOST POWER STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN. I WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AND WENT TO BACK OUT AND NO LONGER HAD POWER STEERING. LUCKILY I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND I COULD PULL BACK IN TO ASSESS THE SITUATION. HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENED I DON'T THINK I WOULD'VE HAD THE STRENGTH TO STEER THE CAR TO MY DESTINATION. THE CAR HAS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR THIS BUT MY VIN NUMBER DOESN'T SEEM TO BE AFFECTED. I AM WONDERING WHY? I WASN'T EVEN NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL BACK IN 2014- RECALL 14V284000 I READ THE CODES OFF OF MY VEHICLE AND B1342 VARIABLE ASSIST POWER STEERING MODULE CODE. THE OTHER CODE IS B2290 OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FAULT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE (THIS MAY BE AN AIR BAG ISSUE) WHICH I HAVE TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT IN YEARS PAST. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE SAFETY RISK IS WITH THAT CODE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN RECALL REGARDING THE POWER STEERING ON SEPTEMBER 19, 2017. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED BY BILL WALSH FORD LINCOLN KIA (2900 COLUMBUS STREET, OTTAWA, IL 61350). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP SIGN, THE STEERING COLUMN FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE RECALL INFORMATION WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,103.
MY 2008 MARINER HAD A RECALL FOR POWER STEERING DEFAULT SENSOR. I WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT THE ISSUE WAS RECALIBRATED IN THE ORIGINIAL RECALL BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR THE POWER STEERING FAILED AGAIN FORD WILL NOT FIX IT THEY DID NOT CHANGE THE PART TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM ORIGINIALLY THEY JUST RESET IT ON THE COMPUTER. IT IS EXTREMLY HARD TO TURN, BUT I NEED THE VEHICLE FOR WORK. GOT REPAIR QUOTES AS HIGH AS $1500 TO REPAIR, MONEY I DO NOT HAVE.
PERFORMED RECALL SERVICE AT BOZEMAN FORD IN BOZEMAN MONTANA FOR RECALL 14S05 ON OCTOBER 13,2014. ON APRIL 23, 2018 MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A FAULTY TORQUE SENSOR, WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED DURING THE INITIAL RECALL SERVICE. WAS INFORMED BY BISON FORD IN GREAT FALLS MONTANA THAT SINCE INITIAL RECALL SERVICE WAS PERFORMED, THIS SERVICE WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE RECALL AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $625.32 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO REPLACE THE SENSOR AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BY THE INITIAL RECALL SERVICE AND I SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY FOR FOLLOW UP SERVICE RELATED TO THE RECALL.
