Couple weeks back, significant other encountered issue with brake signal coming on and needed to pretty much press the brakes to the floor to get it to brake. Took it to a nearby shop and they weren't familiar with the car, so they recommended to bleed the brakes according to error code and online. Signal went away for a bit. Signal came back with no immediate brake issue. Took to the dealership and they replaced some parts which also made the signal disappear for now. The parts were: Booster brake (a booster asy - brake), a bush, a module. Assuming the part replacement effectively hid the issue like a brake bleed. Few days later while driving about 40mph later the brake signal came on, wasn't touching the brakes at the time. Went to brake and they weren't reacting normally and wasn't braking. Had to also pretty much press hard on the pedal and get the pedal to the floor to break. Pulled off to a side road and restarted the car. Issue disappeared upon restart. Assuming something that controls the brake booster turns off.
My wife was driving and the power steering failed. She could hardly steer to safety. Turned car off then steering was fine. The next day it happened again so we dropped it off to our mechanic. Today he called and said the entire steering column would have to be replaced. He informed us that there was a recall in 2016 for this problem with ford and mercury vehicles from 2006- 2011 however our vin was not included. This vehicle has been kept in top shape and only has 70,000 miles. I feel this is definetly a manufacturer defect. We are planning to make these repairs but feel this vehicle should have been included in the recall.
Why was Ford allowed to close out recall 14S05 ? My 2009 Mariner was not included in the recalled VINs - did Ford neglect to include Hybrid Mariners and Escapes that were built at the Kansas City Assembly plant between 2008 and 2011 ? I am looking at a $600 repair for a sensor that should never wear out - when nearly 3/4s of a million vehicles were recalled for this defective part.
The contact called on behalf of his wife who owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while his was driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering assist making it difficult to steer the vehicle. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The driver pulled over to the side of the roadway safely where her husband arrived with his trailer to tow the vehicle back to the residence. The following day the vehicle was driven to the dealer in manual steering mode. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed the failure with the power steering. The dealer related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 136,200.
EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE RUNNING FINE EXCEPT THE POWER STEERING NO LONGER WORKS. THE CAR WAS TURNING TOO THE LEFT GOING ABOUT 5MPH WHEN THE ISSUE BEGAN. THE TOOL LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON WHEN THE ISSUE BEGAN.
THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH APPEARED AND THE POWER STEERING SHUT OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THE CAR STILL OPERATES AFTERWARDS, BUT THE WRENCH LIGHT IS STILL ON AND STEERING IS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS.
I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AND LIST ALL POWER STEERING. EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE BUT I'M UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE AT ALL NOW. THE DASHBOARD SHOWS THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING INDICATOR I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THERE ARE RECALLS FOR THIS FOR THE SAME YEAR VEHICLE BUT WHEN I RUN MY VIN NUMBER IT DOESN'T PROVIDE ME WITH ANY RECALLS FOR MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE SO THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO PAY FOR ANY OF THE REPAIRS. NOW I'M LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND MY VEHICLE IS HOW I MAKE MY MONEY TO PAY MY BILLS. THE COST TO REPAIR IS OUTRAGEOUS. I'M GLAD I WASN'T DRIVING ANY FASTER BECAUSE IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I DID CALL THE 800 NUMBER FOR RECALLS AND I WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THERE WEREN'T ANY RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE COULD SMELL A STRONG, ABNORMAL GAS ODOR UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ODOR WAS THE STRONGEST WHEN THE GAS TANK WAS FULL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WAS A LEAK AT THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED HIM THAT THE VIN WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. A DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 154,000.
THE 2009 MERCURY MARINER IS SPORADICALLY LOSING POWER STEERING. IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES NOW, TYPICALLY AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN MAKING 90 DEGREE TURNS. ENTERING THE VIN ON FORD'S SITE SHOWS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR LEAVES YOU WITH NO BRAKES. THIS IS DUE TO THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL MODULE FAILING SAME AS OTHER ONES IN FORD AND MERCURY'S BEING RECALLED. THIS IS TERRIBLE AND DANGEROUS AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP EVEN THOUGH THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS WITH MARINERS AND ESCAPES ARE HAVING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. DOES MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY RECALL THESE? THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. TERRIBLE AND DANGEROUS.
SUDDENLY THE STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I WAS IN A STATIONARY POSITION AND THEN TRIED TO TURN. FORTUNATELY I WAS IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
PAST 30 DAYS WHILE DRIVING HEARD WARNING CHIME LASTING ABOUT 2 SECONDS. NO MESSAGE VISIBLE ON DASHBOARD. ON 12/18 WHILE PARKING CAR WARNING CHIME AND MESSAGE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE." STEERING ASSIST COMPLETELY FAILED. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE CAR HOME (ABOUT 2 MILES) - WITH DIFFICULTY WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEED. SEARCHED THE WEB AND FOUND THAT OTHERS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR SOME CARS OF MY YEAR AND MODEL DEALING WITH EXACTLY THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP AND AM AWAITING A CALL FROM THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT (I HAD THE A/C SYSTEM SERVICED ON NOV 11 THAT APPEARS UNRELATED). IF THIS IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL - IT SHOULD BE. THE STEERING IS SO DIFFICULT WITHOUT THE ASSIST THAT HIGHER SPEED WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY HAVE LED TO A CRASH. RIGHT NOW, THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEABLE.
WHILE DRIVING A BUZZER GOES OFF ON THE CAR (USUALLY INDICATES THAT I HAVE TO LOOK AT THE DASHBOARD FOR AN EXPLANATION, E.G. LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING). THE POWER ASSIST FOR THE STEERING IMMEDIATELY CUTS OUT AND I HAVE TO STEER WITH SIGNIFICANT EFFORT. THIS IS NOT A BIG DEAL IF I AM GOING STRAIGHT, A VERY BIG DEAL WHEN I AM TURNING WHICH ACCOUNTS FOR ALMOST EVERY EVENT. THIS EVENT LAST 2-3 SECONDS AND THE ASSIST RECOVERS. THERE IS NO WARNING MESSAGES ON THE DASHBOARD. IT REQUIRES BOTH HANDS TO CONTROL THE CAR FOR THIS SHORT TIME - HOWEVER AT 30 MPH THE VEHICLE TRAVELS 50+ FEET DURING THIS EVENT. THIS HAPPENS EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. . THE DATE LISTED BELOW IS THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I.E. TODAY WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN TRAVELING AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND LAST 3 SECONDS - ENOUGH TIME FOR ME TO SAFELY COMPLETE THE TURN USING BOTH HANDS. *JS
POWER STEERING ASSIST IS UNRELIABLE. IT WOULD STOP WORKING INTERMITTENTLY A FEW DAYS AGO AND NOW IT DOESNT WORK EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST START OF THE DAY AND I'VE HAD IT LOOKED AT SHOP HERE IN TOWN IT THREW A CODE THAT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME WAS THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED REPLACING. I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE AND THAT MY MARINER DIDN'T HAVE THE RECALLED PARTS REPLACED BUT THE PCM WAS REPROGRAMMED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPLACEMENT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE PREVIOUS RECALL ISSUED BY FORD MOTOR CO.
WHEN USING THE BRAKES THERE'S A LOSS OF ABOUT HALF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND MOST LIKELY THE ABS SYSTEM. THE PART RETAILS FOR $1,747.32. THE PROBLEM FROM TALKING TO MECHANICS AND SEARCHING IS APPARENTLY STICKING VALVE(S) WHICH IN TURN MAKES THE BRAKE FLUID BY-PASS HALF OF THE SYSTEM. IN OTHER WORDS YOU ONLY HAVE THE USE OF PART OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM. OUR CAR HAS 170K MILES BUT THAT'S ~ 90% HIGHWAY MILES, WE BOUGHT IT ~6YRS AGO WITH 15K MILES, WHICH MEANS THE BRAKES DON'T GET THAT MUCH USE. THE REAR SHOES WERE JUST REPLACED FOR THE 1ST TIME @ 170K AND THE FRONT PADS HAVE BEEN DONE ONCE. FORD CARES SO MUCH ABOUT THE LIVES OF PEOPLE DRIVING THEIR CARS THAT THEY CONTINUE TO SELL THE SAME PART (MODULATOR VALVE - FORD (9L8Z-2C346-C)) WITHOUT ANY ENGINEERING CHANGES/UPDATES, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ACROSS CAR LINES AND EVEN TRUCKS. THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL, #19S54 FOR SELECT 2006-10 FORD FUSION, MERCURY MILAN AND LINCOLN MKZ VEHICLES THAT EXHIBIT THE SAME ISSUE, "A NORMALLY CLOSED VALVE INSIDE THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT MAY STICK OPEN, WHICH COULD RESULT IN EXTENDED BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL, POTENTIALLY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.". AN INTERESTING POINT IN THE RECALL IS THIS: "THE SYSTEM WILL BE PRESSURE-FLUSHED WITH DOT 4 BRAKE FLUID AND THE DOT 3 RESERVOIR CAP WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW DOT 4 CAP." OUR VEHICLE HAS A DOT3 CAP, IS DOT3 WHAT CAUSES THE PROBLEM WITH "STUCK OR SLOW-RESPONDING VALVES" PER RECALL, AND DOT4 KEEPS VALVES FROM STICKING OR BECOMING SLOW ACTING BECAUSE OF THE VISCOSITY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2? FROM AMSOIL "DOT 3 IS THE MOST COMMON TYPE USED IN CARS AND TRUCKS TODAY. DOT 4, HOWEVER, IS GAINING POPULARITY DUE TO WIDESPREAD USE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEMS AND TRACTION CONTROL, WHICH BENEFIT FROM DOT 4 FLUID?S LOWER VISCOSITY." THIS: "AS OF 2006, MOST CARS PRODUCED IN THE U.S. USE DOT 4 BRAKE FLUID." EXCEPT FOR FORD APPARENTLY.
OUR SON IS DRIVING THIS CAR WIT 90K MILES ON IT. HAD 1200 OF BREAK WORK DONE AFTER FEELING LIKE THE PEDAL WAS GOING DOWN TOO FAR AND HE COULD NOT STOP WELL AND THEN IT ENDED UP NEEDING A NEW EHCU TO THE TUNE OF 2600$. THIS IS A VERY CRITICAL COMPONENT AND FROM WHAT I READ, THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. IT SHOULD NOT FAIL AND FORD AS NOT ISSUED A RECALL. I CALLED FORD TO SEE IF THERE COULD BE ANY ASSISTANCE AND THEY SAID NO. GOOD CARS ARE BEING JUNKED FOR THIS REASON AND IT IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE.

THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SHEEHY FORD LINCOLN OF RICHMOND (10601 MIDLOTHIAN TURNPIKE, RICHMOND, VA 23235) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A POWER STEERING MODULE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 164,000.
THE VEHICLE AC UNIT WATER DRAINS DIRECTLY OVER THE FRONT SUB-FRAME AND RUSTS THROUGH THE FRAME, AT WHICH POINT THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SUSPENSION WILL COLLAPSE AND LOSS OF STEERING RESULTS. THIS PROBLEM WAS ACKNOWLEDGED FOR SOME ESCAPE VEHICLES, BUT NOT ITS MERCURY MARINER EQUIVALENT, EVEN THOUGH IT SHARES SAME PART/PROBLEM. DEALER REFUSES TO COVER REPAIR AND CUST SEVICE SUGGESTED I CONTACT NHTSA.
LAST YEAR IN APRIL I GOT THE CAR , DIDN'T HAVE IT FOR A WEEK THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT . I GOT IT FIXED . HERE IT IS 2020 OF AUGUST , THE POWER STEERING ASSIST CAME ON . THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME . I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP REPLACING THIS SAME PART . I LOOKED INTO THE RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE . I SEEN A COUPLE , CALLED A NUMBER I SEEN THEY SAID THE RECALL EXPIRED. SO I'M BACK TO SQUARE ONE . I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT PART I NEED .
THE POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT OF MY 09 MERCURY MARINER.
AFTER ABS ACTIVATED BRAKE PADEL BECAME SOFT. MY VEHICLE HAS A SIMLAR PROBLEM EXPAINED UNDER ''SAFETY RECALL 19S54 ' ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT VALVE FUNCTION''. EVENTHOUGH FORD RECALLED SEVERAL UNITES, MY VIN DID NOT LIST UNDER THE RECALLED UNITS.
VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOSES POWER STEERING ASSISTANCE WHILE DRIVING. IF THE IGNITION KEY IS CYCLED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MAY FUNCTION AGAIN. THE AFFECTED COMPONENT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM) WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS IN 2014, HOWEVER ONLY THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIR. THE MALFUNCTIONING COMPONENTS WERE NOT REPLACED AND THE ISSUE HAS RETURNED.
UNEXPECTED SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ONTO MAJOR ROADWAY CAUSING CONTACT WITH CURB.
RECALL HAS BEEN DONE BACK 5 YEARS AGO AND POWER STEERING IS NOT WORKING AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A HEAT ISSUE OF POOR MANUFACTURING. THEY REPLACE PART HOWEVER, SAFETY ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN FIX. THIS PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE UNLESS FORD FIXES THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS A HEATING AND COMPOUND ELECTRIC ISSUE AND OVERTIME WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL AND CAUSE POSSIBLE INJURIES AND OR DAMAGE. FORD ONLY MASK THE PROBLEM WITH THE RECALL AND DID NOT IN FACT FIX IT. THE HEAT SHIELD AND PART LOCATION IS A POOR DESIGN AND CAUSING A THERMAL BRAKE DOWN TO THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WHICH CAUSES THERMAL GREASE TO FLAKE AWAY AND THEREFORE CAUSES LOSS OF COMMUNICATION TO THE ELECTRICAL SETTINGS AND THEREFORE CAN'T ADJUST THE SETTINGS FOR POWER CONTROL. PLEASE HAVE FORD FIX THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE SERIOUS IS INJURED.
I BEGAN TO HAVE SLIGHT PROBLEMS THE OTHER DAY WITH MY STEERING WHEEL BEING SOME WHAT 'TIGHT' WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN. USUALLY, THE STEERING WHEEL SORT OF 'SPRINGS' BACK WHEN MAKING A TURN, IT NOW HAS TO BE ASSISTED BY MYSELF TO GET THE WHEEL TO TURN STRAIGHT BACK AFTER MAKING THE TURN. I HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH AND I AM 100% POSITIVE THAT THE VEHICLE I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT IS NOW HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT RECALL #14V284000 HAS LISTED. I HAVE REPLACED MY TIE ROD ENDS RECENTLY AND I HAVE CHECKS FOR PLAY IN MY RACK AND PINION. THE STEERING IT'S SELF IS NOT 'LOOSE' OR RATTLING ANY COMPONENTS SO I AM BROUGHT TO BELIEVE IT IS A ELECTRICAL ISSUE. PLEASE HELP ME.
MY DAUGHTER'S CAR GOT A POWER STEERING ERROR MESSAGE AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THE TRUCK IS UN-DRIVEABLE. I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND FOUND: IF A VEHICLE SHOWS A HISTORY OF A LOSS OF THE TORQUE SENSOR SIGNAL OR FAULT CODES RELATING TO THE PSCM WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR THE RECALL REMEDY, THE AFFECTED COMPONENTS WILL BE REPLACED, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 18, 2014. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-392-3673. FORD'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 14S05. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE WARRANTY REPAIR WAS DONE IN 2014 AND FORD FEELS LIKE THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. OBVIOUSLY WHAT EVER THEY DID DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK IS UNUSABLE, THE REPAIR IS $2000++ AND FORD IS NOT WILLING TO HELP.
My SUV was part of a recall due to the electronic power steering failing. My SUV was allegedly repaired by the cheapest of the three available options (computer reset or some such process). I bought my SUV in 2020. The electronic power steering slowly started going out intermittently and then more frequently over time, but is now completely out. The dealer tested my SUV and stated that the entire steering column needs to be replaced. They claim that the problem has nothing to do with the recall, but I don't believe them. My issue is the exact same issue that prompted the recall in the first place. I should not have to pay for a failed recall repair. I think it's possible that the original dealership faked the repair, or simply chose the cheapest (but not proper) option to save themselves time and money. My shoulder is now damaged due to driving without power steering for so long. I need an honest evaluation of my vehicle and an investigation into whether or not the original dealer performed the proper repair. I would assume that the issue wouldn't come back if it had been repaired properly the first time.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER HYBRID HAS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I CAN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT GREAT EFFORT.
WE PURCHASED A VEHICLE FROM A FAMILY MEMBER THAT THEY HAD PURCHASED FROM AUTO SOURCE IN WOODS CROSS, UTAH (WHO SPECIALIZES IN REBUILDING TOTALLED VEHICLES). WE RECENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR WORK TO BE DONE ON IT, AND THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THAT THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE, AND THE AIR BAG SYSTEM HAD BEEN RIGGED TO NOT TRIGGER THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO COME ON AND THAT THE MODULE ON IT WAS BAD, WHICH MAY CAUSE THE AIRBAGS TO POSSIBLY NOT DEPLOY. THEY LET ME KNOW THAT IT IS ILLEGAL FOR EITHER OF THESE THINGS TO BE TAMPERED WITH. I KNOW THAT MY BROTHER-IN-LAW DID NOT TAMPER WITH EITHER OF THESE 2 ITEMS. IT SEEMS THAT THIS COMPANY IS TAKING SHORTCUTS WITH SAFETY ITEMS THAT THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS TAMPERING WITH AND THEN RE-SELLING THEM TO THE PUBLIC. I ASKED THEM TO WORK WITH US TO FIX THE ISSUE AND THEY ARE COMPLETELY UNWILLING TO EVEN CORRECT THE ISSUE. POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING. NO WARNING LIGHTS. WENT TO STORE IT WORKED CAME OUT AND IT DIDN'T WORK. HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS AND STILL NOTHING
I DROVE MY 2009 MARINER 45 MINUTES TO A NEARBY CITY. AFTER SHOPPING I TURNED ON THE CAR AND HAD NO ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT RETURNED. I PARKED AT THE NEXT STORE TO SHOP AND WHEN I RETURNED THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING UNTIL I RESTARTED THE MARINER. IT THEN WORKED FOR ABOUT A HALF HOUR ON THE DRIVE HOME AND CUT OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON AT THAT POINT. THE NEXT DAY IT WAS FINE. I DID TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALER TO CHECK FAULT CODES AND RECALLS AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING SHOWING IN THE SYSTEM. THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING FINE UNTIL A WEEK LATER THE ISSUE RETURNED.
MY CAR HAS A ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM CODE AND I CALLED AND FOR MY CAR IT WAS NOT ON THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A RECALL 14V28400 IN 2014 FOR 2008-2011 MERCURY MARINER FOR THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE NO POWER STEERING NOW
ON CITY STREETS THE POWER STEERING WOULD BECOME DISABLED. THIS WOULD CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCKUP AND BECOME INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURNS. THE POWER STEERING WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF, AND AFTER 2 OR 3 CYCLES A BATTERY ICON ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD LIGHT UP. SEEMED TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WERE ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL OUT ALREADY THAT IS EERILY SIMILAR. THEY DID NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION AS TO WHY THIS INSTANCE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000.

IN SEPT 2016, I TOOK MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER IN FOR PROGRAM CODE 13N03 BECAUSE I WAS ONLY EXPERIENCING LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING AND THE CODE P2112 SHOWED UP; I FOUND OUT THE DEALERSHIP CHOSE TO INITIATE THE RECALL 14S05 OF UPDATING THE SOFTWARE IN MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOT EXPERIENCING ANY POWER STEERING ISSUES - NO CODES LISTED ON MY INVOICE. FAST FORWARD TO MAY 2019, MY VEHICLE'S ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT AND NOW I CANNOT GET IT FIXED BECAUSE FORD CHOSE TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE WHEN THE ONLY PROGRAM I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. NOW IT IS MY EXPENSE TO FIX MY ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING INSTEAD OF FORD BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO DO ANOTHER RECALL EVEN THOUGH NO CODES WERE LISTED. WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY DECIDE TO FIX YOUR VEHICLE HOW THEY WANT TO - SO NOW EVEN THOUGH THE 14S05 RECALL APPLIES TO MY VEHICLE NOW I CANNOT GET IT FIXED BY FORD BECAUSE THEY UPDATED THE SOFTWARE WITHOUT ACTUALLY FIXING THE PROBLEM.
MY VEHICLE IS A 200& MERCURY MERINER IT HAS BEEN STATIONARY LUCKILY WHEN THE POWER STEERING HAS STOPPED WORKING. I PURCHASED A 2009 MERCURY MARINER NEW. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED 14V284000. THE RECALL INVOLVES THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. THE DEALER CLAIMS THIS MARINER IS NOT UNDER THE RECALL. I SAY IT IS BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS SEEN IN THE VIDEO DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. FAULTY SEAL ON THE REAR WINDOW HAS CAUSED WATER TO SEEP INTO THE HATCH RELEASE MECHANISM. REAR DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THERE IS NO REPAIR THAT CAN FIX THIS ISSUE. CANNOT CHANGE REAR LIGHTS DUE TO BEING UNABLE TO OPEN THE REAR DOOR.

THE MARINER DROVE FINE AND IT IS OR SEEMED LIKE A NICE LITTLE SUV. I WAS NEGOTIATING A TURN INTO A SUPER TARGET @ 144TH & I-25 BASICALLY THE POWER STEERING QUIT WORKING IMMEDIATLEY. I NEARLY COULDN'T MAKE IT INTO THE PARKING LOT OUT OF ON COMING TRAFFIC. I CALLED MY HUSBAND HE DROVE UP INSPECTED UNDER THE HOOD IT WAS THEN HE NOTICED NO POWER STEERING PUMP NO POWER STEERING RESERVOIR, MUST BE ELECTRIC. I GOT IN THE VEHICLE HE CAME UP IN AND FOLLOWED HIM IN THE MERCURY MARINER PREMIER.HE WORKS A PHYSICALLY DEMANDING JOB UNION JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICIAN / CONSTRUCTION & WAS BARELY ABLE TO TURN AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO MY GRAND DAUGHTER WHICH LIVES A FEW MILES AWAY. REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN BECAUSE ELECTRIC ACTUATOR HAS FAILED AGAIN, THEREFORE THE SPARE TIRE CANNOT BE ACCESSED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT'S BEEN REPLACED ONCE ALREADY. THIS IS A OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
