WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE ON A CITY STREET IN TRAFFIC, THE ABS ABRUPTLY APPLIED THE BRAKES - HARD! THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND A "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" WARNING MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED. ALSO, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. AFTER ABOUT 5 SECONDS, POWER WAS RESTORED AND VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO PROCEED. THIS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 8 TIMES OVER A TWO MILE DISTANCE. DURING THE LAST 4 TIMES, THE ENGINE DIED, LOST POWER COMPLETELY, AND NEEDED TO BE TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO CONTINUE. THIS FAILURE WAS A DANGEROUS SAFETY HAZARD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ALBUQUERQUE LINCOLN VOLVO. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED ABS MODULE, 9L8Z. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS MODULE WITH A FAULTLY MODULE. A SECOND ABS MODULE WAS INSTALLED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED REPAIRED. THE DEALER DID NOT RETURN THE DEFECTIVE PART FOR ANALYSIS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCUY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WHEN TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION DUE TO AN ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. SAWGRASS FORD (14501 W SUNRISE BLVD, SUNRISE, FL 33323, (954) 851-9000) DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE AS LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL CAMPAIGN AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,941.
LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING ERROR CODE "POWER STEERING ASSIST ERROR"
ON OCTOBER 18, 2018 I RECEIVED THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE ERROR ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN TURNING ON MY VEHICLE. I HAD DRIVEN IT EARLIER IN THE DAY WITHOUT ISSUE. PREVIOUSLY I HAD THE OCCASIONAL WARNING NOISE AND QUICK FLASH OF AN ERROR (TOO QUICK FOR ME TO READ ALL THE WAY) AND WOULD HAVE MOMENTARY DIFFICULTY TURNING. THIS ISSUE MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT IT IS MOST LIKELY A MALFUNCTIONING TORQUE SENSOR. I REACHED OUT TO FORD AFTER LEARNING OF RECALLS FOR THE 2009 MODEL YEAR. I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. FORD WAS UNWILLING TO ASSIST WITH THE COST OF REPAIRS IN ANY WAY. THEIR SUGGESTION WAS TO KEEP THE RECEIPT ON THE SLIM CHANCE THAT THE RECALL WOULD BE EXPANDED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. THIS REPAIR WILL COST IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $1000 OR MORE. I WILL NEED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE AT A DEALERSHIP TO ENSURE THE REPAIR IS DONE CORRECTLY AND THAT FORD WON'T GIVE ME REIMBURSEMENT ISSUES SHOULD THE RECALL BE EXPANDED. THIS OCCURRED LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER THE FUEL INLET VALVE FAILED ON THE VEHICLE, CAUSING IT TO SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING AND RENDERING IT UNABLE TO BE STARTED. THE REAR HATCH HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE OPENED FOR OVER THREE YEARS BECAUSE OF AN ISSUE WITH THE LATCH. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM AND WELL. THERE WERE ISSUES WITH AIR CONDITIONING WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (APRIL 2015). THE ISSUES WERE NOT APPARENT PREVIOUS TO PURCHASE BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER AT THE TIME. WITHIN A MONTH THE WEATHER WARMED UP. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO USE THE A/C IT WAS ONLY BLOWING HOT AIR. THE DEALERSHIP WAS WILLING TO FIX THE ISSUE FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE IS OCCURRING AGAIN EVEN AFTER HAVING AN A/C RECHARGE PERFORMED.
THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY SHUTS DOWN WHILE OPERATING ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN 65-75 MPH. THERE IS NO WARNING AND IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE CAR. AFTER WAITING FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES THE ENGINE CAN BE RESTARTED AND ALL SEEMS TO OPERATE, UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN.

AS A RESULT, ANOTHER VEHICLE STRUCK THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TOWED AND WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
STEERING BECAME VERY HARD AND DANGEROUS
WHILE UNIT IS RUNNING ON ROAD ENGINE STILL RUNNING CAR STOP FOR ABSENT OF POWER BUT ENGINE KEEP RUNNING, PRESSING GAS PEDAL WILL DO ANYTHING , YOU HAVE TO TURN ENGINE OFF WAIT AND TURN ENGINE ON BACK IN ORDER TO KEPT DRIVING , THIS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HAY WAY AT ANY SPEED , PLEASE CONSIDER A RECALL WE ALMOST GET KILL BY A REAR IMPACT IF WE DID REACT FAST . UPDATE DOES NOT FIX SITUATION, THIS A TROUBLESHOOTING FROM FACTORY AND THEY NOW THIS VERY CLEAR. THIS HAPPENS IN HAY WAY 147 GOING NORTH TO SOUTH AT 9.10PM ON 06/13/2018 WHERE WE WERE DRIVING SPEED LIMITS OF 55MPH.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOWN AND COUNTY FORD (6015 PRESTON HWY, LOUISVILLE, KY 40219, 502-964-8131) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE PART WAS REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000. *TT
MY POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES FAILS TO ENGAGE UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE. I CAN HEAR THE SENSOR CLICK ON WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE AND IF IT DOESN'T CLICK THEN THE POWER STEERING DOESN'T WORK. I'VE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY SAY IT DOESN'T APPLY TO MY VEHICLE ALTHOUGH I MATCH THE DESCRIPTION IN THE RECALL. THE RECALL NUMBER IS 14S05. I CONTACTED FORD WHO SAID THEY ALREADY DID THE REPAIR BEFORE I OWNED IT WHILE ALSO SAYING THE RECALL DOESN'T APPLY TO MY VEHICLE. SAID THE PREVIOUS REPAIR WAS ONLY COVERED FOR 1 YEAR/12000 MILES. I'M HAVING THE EXACT ISSUE AS RECALL 14S05. I TALKED TO GLES IN THE PHILLIPPINES CALL CENTER. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE HIGHER UP AND THEY SAID I MUST SEND A LETTER TO THE MAIN OFFICE IN MICHIGAN. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET SOME ASSISTANCE AND THIS AND KEEP GETTING THE RUN AROUND. SO HERE I AM.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE ON DASH. MAKING THINGS DIFFICULT TO TURN IN LOW SPEED TURNS. CONTACTED FORD AND WAS TOLD THE COMPUTER WAS FLASHED IN 2013, BEFORE I EVEN OWNED THE CAR. WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE MY RESPONSIBILITY AND TO HOLD RECEIPTS BECAUSE I BE ABLE TO GET REIMBURSED FOR PART OR ALL OF COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE. NOW FORD SAYS NO GO! LOOKING AROUND ON ISSUES WITH THE TORQUE SENSOR AND NOTED MANY PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THE SAME AS I HAVE. SEEMS TO ME FORD IS JUST TRYING TO GET MORE PARTS REPLACED AND DOESN'T CARE ABOUT OUR SAFETY. THIS IS AN ATTEMPT TO GET FORD ON THE BALL TO FIX THEIR VEHICLES. I'VE BEEN A FORD PERSON FOR A LONG TIME, BUT CONSIDERING GOING TO TAKE MY FUTURE CAR PURCHASES TO OTHER CARS. COME ON FORD!
THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT COMES UP ON THE DASH. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS IN 2014.
RECALL ON MARINER. TOOK IT IN TO HAVE RECALL REVIEWED AND THEY DID THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THEN MY POWER STEERING FAILED WITHIN A MONTH. THE RECALL STATES THERE ARE 3 FIXES AND FORD IS CHOOSING TO DO THE SOFTWARE UPDATE SO THEN THE SOFTWARE CAN'T COMMUNICATE WITH THE POWER STEERING SO IT IS FAILING. MY LOCAL DEALER TRIED TO CONTACT FORD TO HAVE WHAT THEY DID AMENDED SO THEY CAN FIX IT. THEY RAN ANOTHER TEST ON IT AND IT THREW ANOTHER POWER STEERING CODE. WENT TO LEAVE MY DEALER AND MY POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY OUT AT THAT POINT. FORD IS NOT DOING THE PROPER FIXES. THE SOFTWARE UPDATE IS CAUSING THE POWER STEERING TO FAIL WITHIN A FEW WEEKS TO A MONTH OR TWO. THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE REOPENED.
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAULT, POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED, WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT
TOOL LIGHT COMES ON AND CAR LOSES POWER IN TRAFFIC, VERY, VERY DANGEROUS. DEALERSHIP UPDATED WITH COMPUTER BUT VEHICLE IS STILL DOING IT. PLEASE DO A RECALL FORD.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANDY MOHR FORD DEALER LOCATED AT 2713 E MAIN ST, PLAINFIELD IN 46168, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED , AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT A SECOND STEERING WHEEL MODULE WOULD HAVE TO BE PURCHASED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
LOST POWER STEERING. LIGHT IS ON FOR THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING.
AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE NORMALLY, I PARKED IT. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE IT BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS LIT ON THE CONSOLE AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL IN 2014 AND ASSURED THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN. AFTER READING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ONLINE OF PEOPLE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES. I HAVE DECIDED TO LOG A COMPLAINT.
I STARTED CAR UP WENT TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPOT THE CAR WAS FINE WHEN I PARKED IT EARLIER I COULD STEER THE CAR I HAD TWO USE TWO HANDS . I TOOK THE CAR FOR A COMPUTER CHECK I WAS TOLD BY JACK WILLIAMS AUTO THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE STEERINGTORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTION.
I WAS DRIVING AROUND 40 MPH AND A LIGHT IN MY DASH THE SYMBOL OF A WRENCH APPEARED ,THEN MY SUV I LOST POWER GOING FORWARD , IT SEEMED THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN , I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD IN VERY BAD TRAFFIC WITH OUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT . THE TRAFFIC WAS VERY HEAVY AND THE SUV WAS VERY HARD TO CONTROL WITH OUT POWER.
OUR 2009 MERCURY MARINER SUDDENLY LOST ITS POWER STEERING THIS PAST WEEKEND. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO THE DEALER IN 2014 DUE TO A POWER STEERING RECALL. THE VEHICLE RECEIVED A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO OVERRIDE THE LOSS OF STEERING AND PROVIDE AN INDICATOR LIGHT TO SHOW THE SYSTEM HAD FAILED. THERE WAS NO SUCH WARNING AND THE SUDDEN CHANGEOVER TO MANUAL STEERING IS DANGEROUS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN THE GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT WHEN THE POWER STEERING FAILED. SHE ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE TRYING TO PULL INTO A SPACE. SHE WAS NOT ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE AND CALLED ME TO HELP. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER WITH A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT. FORD'S RECALL AND SOFTWARE UPDATE WERE INSUFFICIENT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS FAULTY SYSTEM. FORD KNOWS THE TORQUE SENSOR IN THE STEERING COLUMN IS PRONE TO FAILURE BUT OFFERS A RIDICULOUS SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH SERVES NO PURPOSE OTHER THAN TO TELL YOU THERE IS A FAILURE. IN OUR CASE WE DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE THE WARNING LIGHT. THE DEALER QUOTED ME $1507.00 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE, AND THERE WAS NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE. UNBELIEVABLE. PLEASE TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION REGARDING THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE. IT SEEMS THIS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM IS ALSO FAILING IN OTHER FORD MODELS. THANK YOU.

MESSAGE CAME ON: POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. DID SEARCH THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT COVERED BUT ITS THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL AND PLACE OF MANUFACTURING OF THE RECALL IN 2014. MESSAGE DID NOT COME ON AS RESULT OF ACCIDENT, I WAS JUST DRIVING ON STREET WHEN IT CAME ON.
Power steering works or I have to manhandle the wheel to drive. If I turn car off and jiggle the steering wheel while turning it on sometimes it will come back other times it won’t.
DROVE MY WIFE TO WORK ON 12/28/2017AND POWER STEERING WAS WORKING FINE.I STOPPED TO EAT AND STEERING WENT TO MANUAL STEERING.IT IS NOT COMFORTABLE WHEN I HAVE A BAD SHOULDER THAT HAS A PARTIAL REPLACEMENT.RESEARCHING I SEE THEY HAD A RECALL IN 2014 AND READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING I FEEL SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY THIS APPARENT PART FAILURE THAT STILL OCCURS.FORD SHOULD STAND BY THIS ISSUE,BECAUSE THIS IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND UNSAFE.IT WAS ASSEMBLED AT KANSAS PLANT.THANKS

IN ADDITION, THE DEALER STATED THAT AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED; THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED AGAIN FOR FREE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

THREE DAYS LATER ON THE DATE OF 11/11/2017, MY POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME ON! MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER WAS STATIONARY AND WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN!

THE DEALER (WHALING CITY FORD LINCOLN MAZDA, 475 BROAD ST, NEW LONDON, CT 06320, (844) 489-4929) INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY (IN MOTION, STRAIGHT, UNDER 5MPH)STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING DISPLAYED ON DASH. LOSS OF POWER STEERING. NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE MORE EXSPENSIVE MODELS WHY NOT OURS? SENSOR IN STEERING COLUMN WENT OUT. ONLY A DEALER CAN FIX IT DUE TO COMPUTER NEEDS REPROGRAMMING. DEALER TOLD US IT HAD ALLREADY BEEN FIXED? IT HAD NOT, & WE DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THAT. IF OUR CAR WASN'T COVERED UNDER RECALL WHY WOULD THEY SAY THEY HAD FIXED IT? AFTER THEIR INSPECTION WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A THROTTLE SENSOR $1500.00 REPAIR. WHICH IS DIFFERENT FROM RECALL PART, BUT SAME EFFECT. COST MOSTLY LABOR, WE ARE TOLD.
MY POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING THE MESSAGE ON MY DASHBOARD INDICATES THAT THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. WHEN THIS HAPPEN I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND HAD TO PULL OVER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME AND IT'S NOW PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE IT IS VERY HARD TO STEER WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING. I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE PROBLEM
MERCURY MARINER (2009) V6 4WD. HAS STALLED TWICE. 1. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH. IT STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART ONCE THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. 2. STALLED WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP. THIS WAS AFTER THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED ON 10/13/2017. ONLY DRIVEN ABOUT 500 MILES. BOTH TIMES VEHICLE WAS GOING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD.

POWER ASSIST STEERING STOPS WHEN TURNING WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING. ALSO, NO POWER STEERING WHEN VEHICLE TURNED ON AFTER BEING TURNED OFF AND SITTING FOR A WHILE. SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN MAKING HARD TURNS ,LIKE BACKING INTO A PARKING SPOT, OR TURNING AROUND.
POWER ASSIST STEERING STOPS WORKING WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING, MOSTLY WHILE TURNING TO PARK OR WHILE TURNING TO BACK UP.
I AM GETTING CONTINUAL THROTTLE BODY ERRORS ON MY 2009 MARINER. IT GOES INTO LOW POWER MODE SO I CAN "LIMP HOME". IT HAPPENS MOSTLY ON HIGHWAYS WHEN I NEED TO "PUNCH IT" AND GET ALOT OF ACCELERATION.
SO MY DAY STARTS EARLY WITH COLLEGE MY MERCURY MARINER STARTED AND POWER STEERING WAS NORMAL. COME HOME FOR AROUND HOUR AND A HALF GETTING READY FOR WORK. I GET IN AND I CAN'T EVEN BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. I BACKED UP FEW FEET AND COULDN'T MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL. SO I JUST SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND LEFT IT WERE IT STOOD. I HAD NO PROBLEMS ALL DAY AND THEN SUDDENLY POOF NOT THERE. NO DASH LIGHTS, NO CHIMES, NO WARNING.......JUST NO STEERING. WE CALLED A TOW TRUCK THE NEXT DAY AND IT WAS TAKEN TO OUT MECHANIC, WHO TOLD US THAT IT HAD TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED. THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN HAD TO BE REPLACED.

WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING TURNED FROM POWER TO MANUAL; IT WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR MY DAUGHTER AND WIFE TO OPERATE AND NARROWLY MISSED HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, AND TURNED ON, THE POWER STEERING WAS FUNCTIONAL. LATER, WHEN THE CAR WAS RE-STARTED THE POWER STEERING WAS NOT FUNCTIONING; AND STEERING WOULD NOT TURN. VERY UNRELIABLE AND NEAR ACCIDENT EXPERIENCED.
NO POWER STEERING. THE WHEEL IS VERY HARD TO TURN. FOR SAFETY REASONS THE CAR IS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY.
I TURNED ON MY CAR AND WENT TO PULL OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND I HAD A HARD TIME TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE FOR A LITTLE BIT AND I CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL EASILY. I LOOKED INTO WHAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE AND READ THAT THERE WAS A TORQUE SENSOR RECALL ON MY MAKE AND MODEL BUT WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL.
Electronic power steering went out 2weeks after purchasing. Dealership said that it could be tork sensor. Had it tebooted 2 times and went back out each time. Recently had it tested again and repair man said that there was an active recall for it
NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP15001 COMPONENTS STEERING OPENED FROM: APRIL 1, 2015'PRESENT FORD IS REFUSING TO HONOR A RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING SAYING THEY DID A COMPUTER UPDATE INSTEAD. STEERING COLUMN FAILED 9,829 MILES LATER. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN IT FAILS WHILE DRIVING. FORD KNEW THIS PART WAS DEFECTIVE BUT STILL ALLOWED IT TO GO UNFIXED. THE RECALL RESULTED IN A COMPUTER UPDATE TO PROVIDE WARNING SIGNAL AND LIGHT TO TELL YOU THAT THE PART HAS FAILED. I DO NOT HAVE ANY WARNING LIGHTS OR ALARMS AND I SUSPECT THE COMPUTER UPDATE WAS NOT COMPLETED. GOOGLE SEARCHES RESULTED IN THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM EVEN AFTER THE UPDATE HAVE THE SAME FAILURE. I HOPE NO ONE DIES FROM FORDS IRRESPONSIBILITY AND POOR QUALITY VEHICLES. I REPORTED ALL THIS TO FORDS REP WHO BASICALLY DID NOT WANT TO HEAR IT. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR AND WAS TOLD WHY BOTHER WE ARE NOT GOING TO HELP YOU. A SUPERVISOR DID CALL BACK A DAY LATER BUT HAD THE SAME ATTITUDE THAT THE CUSTOMER IS NEVER RIGHT AND DID NOT CARE IF WE EVER BOUGHT A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN. JUST DO A GENERAL FORD SEARCH AND ITS NOT JUST MY MARINER BUT MANY DIFFERENT MODELS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT APPEARS THAT THE ONLY RECOURSE WE HAVE IS WITH THE NHTSA ORDERING A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR INJURED. IT MUST BE QUITE A WINDFALL FOR FORD TO CHARGE ALL THEIR CUSTOMERS $1500.00 TO FIX A MILLION CARS OR MORE. DID THEY DO THIS ON PURPOSE TO MAKE MORE MONEY. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering); however, a month after the recall repair, the vehicle lost power steering functionality while driving at an undisclosed speed. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a fee would be charged for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer later informed that the software for the power steering control module (PSCM) was previously updated under the recall; however, the manufacturer informed the contact that there was no record of the recall repair in the vehicle repair history. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
POWER STEERING GOES IN AND OUT. SO FAR I'VE BEEN LUCKY THIS HASN'T HAPPENED AT HIGH SPEEDS.
WHILE IN MOTION THE CAR WILL STALL CAUSING ME TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURN THE CAR OFF, THEN BACK ON IN ORDER FOR IT TO WORK AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS EVERY 10-15 MILES AND ITS REALLY UNSAFE! I BELIEVE IT IS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP BEFORE I CAN CONTINUE DRIVING IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE RECALL WAS REPAIRED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,588.
