WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL THROTTLE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. PULLED OVER AND PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK. PRESSED ON ACCELERATOR BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. IT WOULD NOT REV THE ENGINE. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE THROTTLE WORKED PROPERLY. THIS HAPPENED TWICE TODAY. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH IN METRO DC RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER (ENGINE STILL RUNNING BUT NO ACCELERATION). I HAD TO CROSS OVER 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO REACH THE SHOULDER (VERY DANGEROUS). I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED (SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS "FLOODED"). I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR EVALUATION TODAY, BUT CAME ACROSS MANY COMMON COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE AND ALSO LEARNED THAT NHTSA WAS CONDUCTING AN INVESTIGATION. I JUST WANTED TO ADD MY CASE TO THIS ISSUE. THIS COULD BE A VERY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM AS IT HAPPENS AT HIGH SPEEDS AND THE VEHICLE SLOWS RAPIDLY.
UPON ACCELERATING, VEHICLE STALLED. OCCURRED ON AUG 29 AND AGAIN ON SEPT 4. HAD TO GLIDE TO A STOP ON HIGHWAY SHOULDER, PUT CAR IN PARK, TURN OFF, AND RESTART. I'VE HAD INTERMITTENT ISSUES FOR A WHILE WHERE CAR DOESN'T ACCELERATE WHEN PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR, THEN IT LURCHES FORWARD. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS THROTTLE BODY AND REPAIRED IT. UPON LOOKING ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH CERTAIN ESCAPES AND MARINERS. *JB
THE FIRST SIGN OF A PROBLEM WITH MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER (39,000 MILES) WAS THREE DAYS AGO WHEN IT STALLED AT A STOP LIGHT. TODAY WAS A BIT MORE DRAMATIC. AT 70 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE RPM SUDDENLY DROPPED DOWN TO 900 AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS NONE RESPONSIVE. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO COAST ACROSS SEVERAL LANES ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. AS I SLOWED TO A STOP THE VEHICLE BEGAN SURGING AND BUCKING. I NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. THEN I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. IT RESTARTED FINE A FEW MINUTES LATER AND RAN NORMALLY (NO WARNING LIGHTS) OVER TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. AFTER LISTENING TO MY STORY, THE FORD SERVICE MAN TOLD ME THAT HE WAS NEARLY CERTAIN THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACEMENT. HE WENT ON TO SAY THAT HE WAS QUITE FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE SINCE FOR YEARS HE'S BEEN DEALING WITH - ON AVERAGE - THREE OF THESE CASES PER WEEK. THAT'S ONE SERVICE MAN AT ONE DEALERSHIP. DO THE MATH! I ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR IF FORD WOULD GIVE ME A BREAK ON THE REPAIR. HE SAID "NO", BUT AGREED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SHOULD NOT FAIL AFTER ONLY 39,000 MILES. HE ALSO SAID IT WOULD BE A WASTE OF TIME FILING A COMPLAINT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. SO, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. THEY FOUND NO ERROR CODES REGISTERED AND FOR THEIR TEST DRIVE IT RAN FINE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT. BY THE WAY, THERE WAS AN EARLIER RECALL FOR OUR VEHICLE. IN SEPTEMBER 2010, THEY REPROGRAMMED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE AND REPLACED THE PLM, WHATEVER THAT MEANS. *TR
THIS ACTUALLY FIRST OCCURRED ON FRIDAY. I WAS TRAVELING ON THE THRUWAY AT ABOUT 65MPH WHEN THE CAR FELT ALMOST LIKE IT DOWNSHIFTED AND THEN I TOTALLY LOST ACCELERATION AND THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH. I LIMPED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR JERKED AND SPUTTERED BEFORE I SHUT IT OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS FLOODED AT FIRST THEN IT TURNED OVER NORMALLY. I WAS AN HOUR FROM HOME AND MADE IT BACK WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT MORNING AND IT DID NOT SHOW ANY CODES. THEY SUGGESTED I REPLACE THE PURGE VALVE, AND AS I HAD A BUSY WEEK OF WORK RELATED TRAVEL SCHEDULED I WENT AHEAD AND HAD THEM DO IT FOR $120. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. RIGHT? TODAY I GET AN HOUR FROM HOME AND IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I CALL MY DEALER AND THEY SUGGEST I FIND THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER AND TAKE IT THERE IMMEDIATELY. CLOSEST FORD DEALER COULDN'T TAKE ME FOR 2 WEEKS!! I WAS AN HOUR FROM MY DESTINATION, SO I DECIDED TO CHANCE IT. I DROVE ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SAME EXACT SCENARIO. I STARTED IT AGAIN, GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND DROVE 10 MINUTES AND AGAIN, EXCEPT THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE. I AM 2 1/2 HOURS FROM HOME AND DRIVING A RENTAL. GARAGE WILL DIAGNOSE AND HOPEFULLY FIX TOMORROW. SERVICE TECH SAID IF HE HAD TO DIAGNOSE WITHOUT A CODE HE WOULD SAY THROTTLE BODY! IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS NOT COVERED BY MY 5 YEAR/60K WARRANTY EITHER. WITH ALL OF THE SIMILAR STORIES I HAVE READ ONLINE FORD NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO DO A RECALL AND REIMBURSE US ALL FOR OUR EXPENSES. *TR
2009 MERCURY MARINER WITH ABOUT 90,000 MILES. WAS ON THE FREEWAY DRIVING ABOUT 65-70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY THE POWER TO CAR CUT OFF - WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE VEHICLE; DROVE TO RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR WAS STILL ON, BUT GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK, WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON, CAR IDLING VERY ROUGHLY. TURNED CAR OFF. TURNED CAR BACK ON, WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF, DROVE ANOTHER 30 MINUTES TO DESTINATION WITHOUT INCIDENT. IN THE TWO HOUR DRIVE HOME, THE CAR CUT OFF FIVE MORE TIMES. I HEARD A BELL ALERT AUDIO SOUND A FEW TIMES, BUT THE ONLY LIGHT THAT CAME ON WAS THE WRENCH JUST AS THE POWER CUT OFF. THE VERY LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND STAYED ON EVEN AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR. I FEEL VERY THANKFUL TO HAVE GOT HOME ALIVE AND WITHOUT GETTING INTO AN ACCIDENT. DEALER RECOMMENDS A 90M SERVICE PACKAGE ($547), A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ($104), AND POSSIBLY A THROTTLE BODY AND/OR SENSOR ($300-ISH). *TR
DRIVING ALONG AND UNEXPECTEDLY ENGINE GOES IN LIMP MODE WITH NO WARNING AND NO ACCELERATION- EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS WAS DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED WHILE IN MOTION 6 TIMES NOW, WHILE STOPPED 3 TIMES. STALLED ONCE WHILE DRIVING UPWARDS OF 40 MPH. I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, PUT EMERGENCY BLINKERS ON, AND RESTART THE CAR. VEHICLE SEEMS TO SPONTANEOUSLY FALTER IN ACCELERATION AND LOSES POWER. TURNING OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTING ENGINE FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT IT WILL THEN REOCCUR AT AN UNKNOWN TIME. SOME INCIDENCES HAVE BEEN IN THE SAME DAY, OTHERS HAVE BEEN UP TO A WEEK APART. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. WAS ABLE TO THE VEHICLES MOMENTUM TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, WAITING, RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, I WAS ABLE TO RESTORE POWER TO THE ENGINE TO RETURN HOME. TURNING LEFT THROUGH CROSS TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AGAIN. WAS ABLE TO QUICKLY TURN THE VEHICLE OFF THEN ON AGAIN TO RESTORE POWER AND MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY FOR BEING DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS REQUIRED TO PAY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED. 1.5 YEARS AGO THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
ON EXPRESSWAY, MY VEHICLE WENT INTO LIM HOME MODE. IT CONTINUALLY DID THIS, SO I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE AUTO SHOP. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY YEAR VEHICLE AND YOU FOLKS ARE LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE. HOPEFULLY YOU WILL RECALL IT. *TR
DRIVING ABOUT 40 MPH VEHICLE LOST SPEED. COULD NOT ACCELERATE . CAME TO A STOP POINT HAD TO TURN OFF VEHICLE. TURN BACK ON AND WAS OK. HAPPENED TWICE. WENT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND WAS REPORTED A PROBLEM WITH THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM -.STUCK CLOSED. ???? CHECK WITH DEALER $435.00 . CHECK ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT MERCURY MARINER IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM BUT NO RECALL ? *TR
VEHICLE WILL STALL WHEN AT A RED LIGHT TO LONG OR IF YOU SPEED UP TO PASS A VEHICLE THEN I HAVE TO WAIT 15 MINUTES OR LONGER TO MOVE AGAIN THEN ONLY I FEW FEET AT A TIME AND IT CUTS OFF AGAIN. *TR
CAR STALLS AND/OR OTHERWISE LOOSES MOTIVE POWER AT ALL SPEEDS (START-UP, LOW SPEEDS, AS WELL AS, MID AND HIGH SPEEDS) CAUSING DANGEROUS SITUATIONS ON THE HIGHWAYS. THE PART (ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY) NEEDED FOR THIS REPAIR WAS ORIGINALLY BACK-ORDERED 7-8-2013 WITH EXPECTED DELIVERY DATE OF 8-7-2013. NOW THE EXPECTED FULFILLMENT DATE IS 9-23-2013. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY LONGTIME TO WAIT TO HAVE A CAR FIXED. CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO EXPEDITE THIS UNREALISTIC TIME LINE. HOW MANY OF THESE FAILURES DO THEY HAVE? IS A RECALL WARRANTED? *TR
ABOUT FOUR WEEKS AGO I HAD NOTICED THAT THE GAS PEDAL OF MY CAR WAS ACTING STRANGELY; OCCASIONALLY, AS I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION IT WOULDN'T WORK, OR "CATCH," RIGHT AWAY, AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH DOWN INCREASINGLY HARD UNTIL IT MOVED. I HAD AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE FRIDAY, STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT TO TURN LEFT, AND IT STALLED. I BROUGHT IT IN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY MORNING AND AFTER A COUPLE HOURS THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND TECHNICIAN TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THEY TESTED IT AND SAID THEY COULD SEE IT "STICKING." HOWEVER, AND THIS IS WHERE MY COMPLAINT COMES IN, THEY TOLD ME A NEW PART WOULDN'T COME IN RIGHT AWAY AS IT WAS ON BACKORDER AND THERE WERE 48,000 ORDERS BESIDES MINE! IT HAS SINCE BEEN 3 WEEKS SINCE THAT VISIT WITH NO NEW PART AND NO EXPECTED DATE, AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME TODAY WHEN I CALLED THAT THERE WERE CLOSE TO 750,000 ORDERS FOR THIS THROTTLE BODY BECAUSE IT'S THE SAME PART USED IN MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLE MAKE AND MODELS. REGARDLESS, MY CAR IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE. WHEN I PUSH THE GAS PEDAL I MORE FREQUENTLY GET NO ACTION AND AT TIMES IT NOW ALSO ACCELERATES UNNATURALLY FAST, ALMOST JUMPS, THEN QUICKLY RETURNS TO NORMAL. YESTERDAY THE PEDAL REQUIRED SO MUCH FORCE BEFORE THE CAR MOVED THAT I THOUGHT IT HAD STALLED ON ME AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE PART COULD COME IN AND CANNOT GIVE ME A LOANER CAR FOR AN UNLIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME, SO UNTIL THEN I AM DRIVING AROUND IN UNRELIABLE VEHICLE, NEVER QUITE SURE HOW IT'S GOING TO ACT. IT INFURIATES ME THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OF THESE PARTS ON BACK ORDER, AND YET A RECALL WAS NEVER ISSUED. HAD THERE BEEN A RECALL WHEN THE OTHER THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD ISSUES I WOULD NOT HAVE TO SIT AROUND WAITING, WHILE FEELING LIKE I'M PUTTING MY OWN LIFE IN DANGER. *TR
RECENTLY PURCHASED 2009 MERCURY MARINER (FORD ESCAPE) HAS THREE TIMES SIMPLY QUIT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED AND THE THROTTLE IS GENTLY PRESSED. LATEST INCIDENT WAS WHILE TRAVELING UPHILL WITH TWO GRANDCHILDREN AND A 18 WHEEL TRUCK ON THE BACK BUMPER. LUCKILY MY WIFE HAD THE PRESENCE OF MIND TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, RE-START THE ENGINE, AND ACCELERATE AWAY FROM THE TRUCK. NO ERROR CODES HAVE BEEN SET DURING THESE THREE EVENTS. *TR
CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO LOOSE POWER AND REDUCE SPEED TO ABOUT 20 MPH. THEN IDLED VERY, VERY ROUGH - CLOSE TO SHUTTING DOWN. SAT FOR A WHILE RESTARTED IT UP AND COULD NOT GET IT PAST 20 MPH. ENDED UP TAKING IT TO DEALER NEXT DAY AND THEY LOOKED INTO IT. TOOK APART THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR AND CLEANED IT. WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT A MONTH, BUT TODAY EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND WE ARE STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, MY SUV COMPLETELY STALLED AND STOPPED RUNNING. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND IT THEN IT WENT. THIS HAPPENED CONTINUOUSLY. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, BENSON LINCOLN MERCURY, IN PITTSBURGH, AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE MAKING IT STOP RUNNING. MY HUSBAND WORKS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY AND IT HAPPENED WHEN HE WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. HE PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND RECEIVED THE CODE, P-2111 "THROTTLE ACTUATOR SYSTEM STUCK OPEN." IT SEEMS THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE TOO. IN APRIL, THE DEALERSHIP PUT A COMPUTER "UPDATE" IN MY CAR. COULD THIS HAVE AN IMPACT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A PART FOR MY CAR, WHEN THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT OF WHICH THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE. *TR
CAR STALLS CONTINUOUSLY. *TR
ON JUNE 11TH, 2013, I WAS TURNING A CORNER AND MY VEHICLE WAS NOT ALLOW ME TO ACCELERATE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. I SAT WITH THE VEHICLE OFF FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO START IT BACK UP. I THEN DROVE A FEW FEET, AND IT STALLED AGAIN. I THEN TURNED IT BACK OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MORE MINUTES, IN WHICH I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AND DRIVE HOME. HE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST 5-10 MORE TIMES SINCE THEN. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED, PUT THE ISSUE STILL EXIST. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS THIS MORNING AT 10: 30 AM. I CONTACTED AFTER-MARKET AUTO PART STORES AND THEY DO NOT CARRY A THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND IT WOULD TAKE SOME TIME TO GET THE PART IN. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR JERKED AS IF I HIT MY BRAKES AND IT WOULDN'T LET ME ACCELERATE ANYMORE SO I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR WAS VIBRATING REAL ROUGH SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND SAT THERE FOR A MINUTE AND TRIED STARTING IT AND IT TOOK A COUPLE TRIES AND I GOT DOWN THE ROAD AND PULLED INTO WHERE I WAS GOING AND IT DID IT AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. I REALLY HOPE THIS PROBLEM CAN GET RESOLVED SOON WITH NO COST IV DONE EVERYTHING I CAN TO MY CAR TO KEEP IT IN GOOD CONDITION AS IN GETTING THE OIL CHANGED IN IT EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES AND EVEN PUTTING THE BEST GASOLINE IN IT AT $3.65 CENTS A GALLON SO ITS TIME FOR FORD/MERCURY TO SUPPORT THERE SIDE OF THE SITUATION. *TR
DRIVING UP RAMP TO GET ON 95 CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AFTER I GAVE IT GAS TO GET UP RAMP. I NOTICED A WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON DASH SO I PULLED OF MANUAL AFTER TURNING OFF CAR TO SEE WHAT IT MEANT (THROTTLE) I SAT FOR 5 FIVES STARTED THE CAR AND IT DROVE FINE, BUT SINCE THEN IT HAS HAPPEN 3 MORE TIMES. *TR
2009 MERCURY MARINER ENGINE STALLS, SURGES THEN NO ACCELERATION. COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD, WHILE TRYING TO NOT GET REAR-ENDED. ENGINE STILL RUNS, IS EXTREMELY ROUGH. AFTER TURNING THE IGNITION OFF, THEN WAIT AND RESTART, RUNS OKAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS IN PAST MONTH AND HALF. I CONTACTED FORD DEALER AND SERVICE GUY SAYS IT IS MOST LIKELY THE THROTTLE BODY STARTING @ $500 REPAIR NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. HAPPENS AT ANY SPEED. FROM START OR JUST WHILE DRIVING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION POWER THEN STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER AND RESTARTED THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER, WHERE THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER BUT NO DEFECT WAS FOUND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. ...UPDATED 07-10-13 *BF
THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR AT CARMAX IN OCTOBER 2012 THAT THE CAR HAS "SHUT OFF" WITHOUT WARNING AT LOW SPEED WHEN CLOSE TO PARKING OR DRIVING SLOW--WITHOUT RHYME NOR REASON--I HAD IT DIAGNOSED AT CARMAX TO NO AVAIL, THEN CHEROKEE FORD TO NO AVAIL (WHERE I PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY), THEN AT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AUTO WHERE THEY REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND COIL.( I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO MY COST WAS 200DOLLARS) THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND SEE THE THROTTLE BODY IS MOST LIKELY THE CULPRIT AND A SAFETY ALERT IS ON THE WEB FROM CONSUMER REPORT AND FORD FORUM AND NORTH CAROLINA SAFETY BOARD---I AM HAVING THE TROTTLE BODY REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE--MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS VEHICLE AND I WANT IT SAFE! IT RESTARTED JUST FINE AND I TOOK OFF AGAIN GOING FOUR BLOCKS WERE IT DIED INSTANTLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. IT IS NOW IN THE SHOP TO FIGURE OUT WHAT CAUSED STALLING IN THE CAR, AND THEN ALLOWING IT TO RESTART AND CONTINUE DOWN THE ROAD. AS MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND SHE HAD TO WORK HER WAY TO THE SIDE ACROSS 3 LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH NO POWER. OUR MECHANIC REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AT OUR EXPENSE. THE NEWS TODAY INDICATED THAT YOU WERE INVESTIGATING THE CIRCUIT BOARD WHICH CONTROLS THE THROTTLE AND WE WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A THREAT TO HER SAFETY AND APPEARS TO BE OCCURRING TO MANY PEOPLE. I WAS LEAVING WORK AND DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AT ABOUT 50MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR JUMPED AND I THEN WAS COMING UP TO A RED LIGHT SO I WAS BRAKING AND BEHIND A CAR. AT THE RED LIGHT I WAS A FEW INCHES FROM HITTING THE CAR BECAUSE MY CAR KEPT JUMPING FORWARD. I THEN GOT SCARED AND TURNED MY CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WAS DRIVING FINE. AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH, I RECEIVED A WARNING ON THE DASH THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD FIND A SAFE PLACE TO STOP. WHEN I RETURNED HOME AND STOPPED THE CAR IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON FEBRUARY 16,2013, AGAIN AFTER GOING THROUGH A CAR WASH. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE RUNNING, BUT WOULD NOT SAY THAT IT WAS REPAIRED. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 55 MPH, POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING MAKING VEHICLE VERY HARD TO STEER. BY TURNING KEY OFF AND RESTARTING, WHILE TUGGING ON STEERING WHEEL, POWER STEERING WILL START WORKING AND MAY LAST 30 MINUTES OR 3 MINUTES. WHILE WORKING, STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND MAKES NOISE. VEHICLE PULLS TO THE LEFT. FORD DENIES HAVING HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND WANTS TO REPLACE STEERING COLUMN FOR $1,396.57. COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ARE NUMEROUS. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST WHO INFORMED HER THAT THEY NEEDED TO DO AN OVERHAUL AND REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS SCHEDULED FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA ITEM NUMBER: 10039137: POWER TRAIN: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) BUT NO RECALLS. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
AFTER COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, AS I ACCELERATE MY CAR JUMPS/JERKS AS IF IT'S STRAINING TO SWITCH TO NEXT GEAR. GENERALLY HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING BETWEEN 10-40 MILES. THE PART WAS REPLACED AND WE DIDN'T HAVE THE ISSUE FOR MONTHS UNTIL IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT'S BEEN A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED. REALLY WORRIED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE THERE IS HIGHER RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO NEXT. SURE SEEMS LIKE MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS ISSUE. WHEN BEING AGGRESSIVE WITH THE ACCELERATOR THE ENGINE STALLS AND THE ACCELERATOR STOPS WORKING FORCING THE DRIVER TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD. WHEN BRING THE CAR TO A STOP IT JERKS FORWARD UNTIL IT IS PUT INTO PARK, STILL THE ACCELERATOR DOES NOT WORK NO MATTER HOW PUSHED. AFTER TURNING IT OFF START UP TAKES LONGER THAN USUAL AND EITHER THE LITTLE WRENCH OR THE ENGINE SYMBOL APPEARS. AFTER TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC IT IS DIAGNOSED THAT IS HAS A BAD ELECTRONIC THROTTLE AND IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACE. PRIOR TO THIS THERE HAS NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, INSTANCE OR WORK DONE THAT WOULD CAUSE THIS. *TR
WHILE ENTERING INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, ENGINE BALKED LIKE BAD GAS. AFTER TWO OR THREE TANKFULS AND THE VEHICLE DYING IN TRAFFIC, I LEFT IT WITH MY DEALER TO FIND THE PROBLEM. AFTER A WEEK, THE VEHICLE HAD NOT DIED FOR THEM SO I BROUGHT IT HOME, ONLY TO CONTINUE WITH THE SAME DYING AND HESITATING WHEN ACCELERATED. A MONTH OR SO LATER THE DEALER KEPT IT AGAIN FOR ABOUT 5 DAYS AND IT STILL DID OKAY FOR THEM. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE "PROBLEM" IS. WE HAVE PARKED THE CAR IN OUR GARAGE BECAUSE SEVERAL TIMES WE HAVE NARROWLY ESCAPED BEING REAR-ENDED, WHEN TURNING CORNERS, CROSSING RAILROAD TRACKS, ETC. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO. IN MICHIGAN AND THEY DO NOT "HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER VEHICLES" AND DON'T SEEM TO KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. MECHANICS IN TWO OTHER GARAGES HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE AND HAVE NOT LOCATED THE PROBLEM. HELP!! *TR
THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND THEN SLOWED DOWN RAPIDLY. PULLED OVER AND PUT CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. CALLED MY UNCLE WHO IS A MECHANIC AND WAS NOT TO SURE AS TO WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED SINCE HE WAS NOT THERE. STARTED CAR AND REVVED THE ENGINE TO SEE IF ANYTHING UNSAFE HAPPENED. MY VEHICLE STARTED LEAKING FLUORESCENT OIL FROM BEHIND THE RADIATOR. APPARENTLY, IT'S THE CONDENSER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE RADIATOR LINES RUN THROUGH THE SAME SYSTEM, AND THAT IF IT IS NOT REPAIRED MY TRANSMISSION WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. THIS FAILURE WAS EXPLAINED TO BE THE TRANSMISSION LOCKING UP, AND THEY SAID IF I'M GOING OVER ABOUT 30 MPH IT WILL BE VERY DANGEROUS. I AM ABOUT 2,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY, AND THE EMAILS I HAVE SENT TO FORD ONLY GET A RESPONSE THAT THEY WILL BE HAPPY TO TAKE MY MONEY AND FIX IT. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF BUYING IT, THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAD TO BE REMOVED TO REPAIR SOMETHING. THEN, A TRANSMISSION SOLENOID. THEN, IT WAS SHIFTING FUNNY -BECAUSE IT HAD VERY LITTLE FLUID-NOONE COULD EXPLAIN WHY. THE VIBRATION IN THE GAS PEDAL AT 42 MPH "COULD NOT BE VERIFIED. " THE MANUFACTURER WAS APPARENTLY OUT OF SATELLITE RECEIVERS, SO THEY JUST DIDN'T PUT ONE IN...THE LACK OF QUALITY OVERALL PROVES THAT THE LENGTH OF THE WARRANTY IS TO PREVENT THEM FROM COSTLY FIXES...AND MY "LONG TERM INVESTMENT " MAKES ME FEEL LIKE I'M PUTTING MINE AND MY FAMILY'S HEALTH AT RISK BY DRIVING IT. I AM DRIVING IT AND FINALLY YESTERDAY THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I RAN IT TO AUTOZONE WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE DREADED P2112 CODE. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER TODAY FIGURING ALRIGHT LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD AND 42,000 MILES I WOULD FINALLY GET IT FIXED. NO GO! ALTHOUGH FOR $106 THEY DID CONFIRM WHAT AUTOZONE ALREADY TOLD ME THAT THE THROTTLE-BODY WAS SHOT AND WOULD COST ANOTHER $430 TO FIX.I PROMPTLY CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE LINE AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY FORD DEALERSHIP TO WORK OUT A PAYMENT PLAN FOR ME TO GET IT FIXED STILL AT MY COST. THIS IS CRAZY THAT I PAYED OVER 26,000 FOR A VEHICLE THAT I STILL OWE 11,000 ON AND UNDER 5 YEARS OLD WITH 42,000 MILES AND THIS IS MY 3RD MAJOR PROBLEM WITH IT.. THE VEHICLE STALLS RANDOMLY. I MAY BE DRIVING SLOWLY OR IDLING AND THE CAR STALLS. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT YIELD SIGNS, RED LIGHTS AND GOING DOWN HILL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. ONE TIME AT A RIGHT SIGNAL ARROW IT STALLED GOING UP A SLIGHT INCLINE AND I ALMOST GOT HIT FROM THE BACK. IT IS EASILY STARTED AGAIN BY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TURNING THE KEY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T START AND HAD TO BE JUMPED. THEY REPLACE THE BATTERY AND BLAMED THE BATTERY ON THE PROBLEM. IT IS STILL HAPPENING AND I AM BRINGING IT AGAIN. *TR

IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY WORSEN. NOW IT HAS BEEN WHEN I STOP OR LET OFF THE GAS IT GOES DEAD. RECENTLY WENT TO AN AUTO SHOP AND THEY HOOKED IT TO THE COMPUTER. IT SAID IT WAS MY THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS CLEANED AND ALL WAS FINE FOR A WEEK. AND NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. I FINALLY DID GOOGLE THROTTLE BODY AND MERCURY MARINER.I FOUND OTHER COMPLAINTS. *TR
THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOOSES POWER AND ACCELERATOR IS UNRESPONSIVE. THIS FIRST OCCURRED WITH APPROXIMATELY 33,000 MILES WHILE STILL IN WARRANTY AND DEALER REPLACED THROTTLE BODY. VEHICLE WAS FINE UNTIL NOVEMBER OF 2013 WITH ABOUT 80,000 MILES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE VEHICLE GOES DOWN TO IDLE SPEED AND WITH NO POWER, IT'S VERY HARD SOMETIMES TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITH ONLY COAST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE AS I'M AWARE OF THE MANY OTHERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. I'M MAKING THIS COMPLAINT TO TRY AND HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS AND ALSO TO DOCUMENT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
