TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM LEFT HAND HALFSHAFT SEAL ON MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. TOOK INTO SHOP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED, FOUND OUT SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE BEARINGS DO TO LOW FLUID. THEN I FIND OUT THERE IS A SERVICE KIT AVAILABLE FOR THIS SEAL ISSUE, HOWEVER WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY NOTICE OF SUCH SERVICE KIT BEING AVAILABLE. I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHO IS GOING TO COVER THE $2500 ITS GOING TO COST TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION FIXED AS OPPOSED TO A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS IT SHOULD HAVE COST ME HAD I BEEN AWARE OF THIS SERVICE KIT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE LEFT OR TO THE RIGHT, THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE EMITTING FROM STEERING COLUMN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,910.
STOPPED TO EAT AND KEYS WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. *TR
STARTED MY CAR TO WARM UP AND NOTICED MY STEERING WHEEL VIBRATING AND TWITCHING SIDE TO SIDE . UPON DRIVING IT STILL CONTINUED TO VIBRATE AND MAKE A NOISE. THE VIBRATION AND NOISE HAS BECOME WORSE. CALLED FORD DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RECALL. I RECEIVED THE RECALL IN OCTOBER BUT AT THIS TIME MY CAR WAS NOT ACTING UP AND I HAVE BUSY WORK SCHEDULE SO HAD NOT HAD IT LOOKED AT YET. BUT ON DECEMBER 29TH , 2014 I TOOK IT IN. THE MECHANIC TOLLS ME ALL THE RECALL WAS FOR WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE. SO I FIGURED THAT WOULD FIX THE VIBRATION AND IT DIDN'T . I FEEL JUST BECAUSE MY CAR DON'T THROW A CODE AT THAT TIME I TOOK IT IN FORD WILL NOT REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR NOW EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC COULD VISIBLE SEE MY STEERING WHEEL VIBRATING AND TWITCHING. SO NOW I GET TO FIX IT MY SELF LIKE MANY OTHER FORD OWNERS. ALL THE SOFTWARE DID FOR WAS IS WARN US OUR POWER STEERING IS OUT. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE TORQUE SENSORS. IF OUR TORQUE SENSORS WASN'T GOING OUT WE WOULDN'T HAD NEEDED THAT SOFTWARE UP DATE. FORD IS GETTING AWAY WITH THE CHEAP SIMPLE FIX. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE COMPUTERS THEY USE ON THE CARS BUT THE COMPUTER PROBABLY DON'T THOUGH A CODE UNLESS SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING AT ALL NOT JUST GOING BAD. THE MECHANIC SHOULD BE TRAINED TO DIAGNOSE WITH THEIR EYES AND EARS TOO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) WAS RECEIVED IN AUGUST OF 2014. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO UPDATED THE SOFTWARE, BUT THE FAILURE PROGRESSED TO THE POINT THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE CODES LISTED IN THE RECALL WERE PRESENT. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ALSO INDICATED THAT THE RECALL REMEDY WAS PREVIOUSLY PERFORMED AND NO FURTHER SERVICE WOULD BE DONE UNDER THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH THE OIL AND BATTERY WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON 2 OTHER OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER THE ANTI THEFT DEVICE WARNING INDICATOR INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE COMPUTER REPROGRAMMED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH ON THE FREEWAY ON 8/11/14. NO SIGNS OF MALFUNCTION INITIALLY. LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF ON 8/13/14. TOOK MARINER TO FIRESTONE AUTO CARE TO DIAGNOSE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS P0022 - VCT SOLENOIDS, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING FINE. THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME THE NEXT TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON TO TAKE IT INTO A DEALERSHIP. SO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON BY 8/17/14. STARTED NOTICING SHUTTERING BETWEEN 50-60 MPH ON 8/22/14. TOOK CAR INTO DEALERSHIP ON 8/27/14. WAS TOLD THAT THE VCT SOLENOIDS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT APPROX. $620 AND THIS CAR ONLY HAS 29K MILES ON IT AND OF COURSE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON REPLACING THE VCT SOLENOIDS BUT OF COURSE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED AND I SHOULD RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THIS REPAIR FOR SOMETHING THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH MARINERS AND ESCAPES FROM 2009-2011. *TR
FAN BLOWER MOTOR ONLY WORKED ON 3RD AND 4TH SETTING. THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ASSEMBLY (PART NO. 8G1Z*19A706*A) WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED BY DEALER. *TR
CAR SUDDENLY WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER, THE ENGINE STALLED, AND THE SERVICE SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. FIVE MINUTES LATER, THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN MINUTES. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPLICATED AND DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000.
I WAS DRIVING AT 45MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR STOP RUNNING. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND CUT THE CAR OFF. I STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT WENT ABOUT ONE MILE BEFORE IT CUT OFF AGAIN. THEN A WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON THE LEFT SIDE DASH BOARD. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND IT CUT OFF ON ME THREE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT HOME. I LOOK IN MY CAR BOOK TO SEE WHAT THE WRENCH SYMBOL MEANS AND IT SAYS THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX. 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY, I FELT A JOLT. AT THIS TIME, I LOST POWER UPON DEPRESSING THE PEDAL. I SLOWLY MOVED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND STOP THE VEHICLE. A WRENCH TOOL ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I THEN TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. AS I PROCEEDED TO CONTINUE ON MY ROUTE, AS I WAS ACCELERATING, APPROX. 25 - 30 MPH, THE INCIDENT REPEATED IF SELF. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT 4 TIMES BEFORE I REALIZED THAT I COULD ONLY DRIVE ABOUT 15 - 20 MPH IN ORDER TO KEEP THIS CONDITION FROM OCCURRING AGAIN. I WAS ONLY ABOUT 4 MILES FROM HOME, SO I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME VERY SLOWLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE AUTO JUST STOPPED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I TURNED THE AUTO OFF AND RESTARTED. IT DID THIS THREE TIMES BEFORE I ARRIVED BACK HOME. TOOK IT TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON THE ENGINE AND CODE P2111 - THROTTLE ACTUATOR STOCK OPEN WAS THE RESULTS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME WAS 2 OR 3 MONTHS AGO BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ONE. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON HWY DOING 75MPH MY MERCURY MARINER 2009 IT SUDDENLY LOSS POWER AND (WHILE ENGINE WAS RUNNING) I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. "TOOL" LIGHT CAME ON. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO REGAIN SPEED (ACCELERATOR WAS DISABLE) AND THE ONLY FIX WAS TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND RE-START. VEHICLE WILL START AND WORK NORMALLY I TOOK TO THE MECHANICS THE NEXT DAY HE SAID THAT NO CODES CAME UP. *TR
FOR MANY WEEKS THE STEERING OF THE MARINER HAS BEEN "TWITCHING." THEN A FEW MORE WEEKS LATER, AT THE TIME WE WOULD START THE VEHICLE THE STEERING WOULD NOT BE WORKING MAKING IT VERY HARD TO TURN. WE WOULD JUST RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT THE STEERING WOULD BE BACK. NOW THE STEERING WILL QUICK AS WE ARE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE IS VERY HARD TO MANEUVER WHEN THE STEERING QUITS, AND IF IT WERE TO QUIT AS YOU WERE MAKING A TURN OR IN A SHARP CURVE, THE OUTCOME COULD POSSIBLY BE VERY BAD. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WITH SPEED CONTROL ON AT 75 MPH, ALL OF THE SUDDEN VEHICLE RAPIDLY SPED UP TO 95 MPH. THE VEHICLE JUST TOOK OFF RAVING ENGINE UP. APPLIED BRAKES AND TOOK OFF CRUISE CONTROL. IF THERE HAD BEEN TRAFFIC THIS COULD OF BEEN A DANGEROUS OR DEADLY INCIDENT. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN BEFORE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, IT WOULD SPEED UP WHILE MAKING A TURN. FORD DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. ALL REPAIRS HAVE BEEN DONE BY A FORD DEALERSHIP. *TR
MY CAR 2009 MERCURY MARINER PREMIER, HAS BEEN SLIPPING (TACH GOES UP BUT MY SPEED DOES NOT) SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR 2-3 YEARS AGO. THERE IS NOW ABOUT 56,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN A COLD WINTER, AND WHEN I START THE CAR AND IT IS COLD, I HAVE BEEN SEEING A LITTLE POOL OF OIL LIKE SUBSTANCE, AND WHEN I BACK UP, THERE IS A LINE OF IT. IT THEN SEEMS TO STABILIZE AND STOP. ONE DAY I WAS USING THE CAR COLD, AND THE TACK WENT UP, BUT I COULDN'T GO ANY FASTER, OR UPSHIFT. I TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE, AND THEY SAID: 6F35 TRANSMISSION - FLUID LEAK - SEAL - LEFT SIDE HALFSHAFT. THE GARAGE POINTED OUT THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY YEAR MERCURY MARINER, AND ALSO THE FUSION, MILAN, AND ESCAPE. THE GARAGE SAID THERE WILL PROBABLY BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. I CAN MAKE A COPY OF THE BILL AND SEND IT. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM, AND THE WHEEL COULD FALL OFF. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I CAN BE COMPENSATED FOR THIS ONGOEING PROBLEM WITH MY FORD MERCURY MARINER, AND OTHER FORD MODELS. WHILE WAITING AT A STOP SIGN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, MY STEER WHEEL JERKED IN MY HAND AND SEEM TO LOCK. WHEN THE TRAFFIC CLEARED, I TRIED TO MAKE THE TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL HAD DEFINITELY LOCK, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN AND STEER AND PLACING ME IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF WHILE IN TRAFFIC. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE STEERING HAD UNLOCKED. MY CAR WAS IN AN ACCIDENT A MONTH PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT AND I HAD BODY WORK DONE, HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY BOTH STATED THAT THIS WAS NOT A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT. THE STEERING ON THE 2009 MERCURY MARINER IS ELECTRONIC AND FAILED TO OPERATE PROPERLY. THE ENTIRE STEER COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACE AT MY EXPENSE. *TR
STARTED THE CAR LIKE NORMAL WENT TO LEAVE FROM MY PARKING SPACE WHEN STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN FREELY. DROVE THAT WAY TO WORK (THOUGHT IT WAS ICE IN SYSTEM DUE TO A SNOW STORM) CALLED MY MECHANIC BUT WHEN I WENT BACK AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN IT WAS FINE, IT DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN FOR A WEEK. ONE DAY AS I WAS DRIVING IT STARTED HAPPENING WHICH NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. READ A POST THAT IT HAPPENED TO SOME OTHER PEOPLETHIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD, I HAVE A KIDS AND GRANDCHILDREN THAT RIDE WITH ME I WILL NOT PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE. *TR
CAR ENGINE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW (10-20 MPH) SPEED. SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED. FIRST TIME ON 2011 REPLACED THROTTLE BODY THEN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN 12/31/2013. FORD SERVICE SAID THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STARTED LOSING POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON; STOPPED AND HAD A HARD TIME CRANKING BUT WAS ABLE TO GO ON. 2ND TIME PULLING ONTO A BUSY STREET, SAME INCIDENT, ABLE TO GET TO CENTER LAN AND RECRANK THIS TIME SURGING FORWARD BUT GAINED CONTROL AND WENT ON, VERY UNNERVING SITUATION, SCARED TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE MARINER AT 45 MPH ON A BUSY STREET, THE ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE, LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND SLOWED TO 5 MPH. I WAS NEARLY REAR-ENDED BY THE TRUCK BEHIND ME AND WAS FORCED TO PULL UP ONTO A SIDEWALK, DAMAGING MY TIRE. PULLED THE CODES ON THE CAR AND GOT A P111 CODE. DID SOME SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS VERY HAPPY THAT I WAS THE DRIVER, AND NOT MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER!!! THIS IS THE SECOND SAFETY ISSUE WE HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR IN THE LAST MONTH -- EARLIER THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT, AGAIN WITHOUT ANY WARNING IN TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCURY MARINER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER LIFTGATE FAILED TO OPEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER AND SUDDENLY LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. A WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH AND THE ONLY THING I COULD DO WAS COAST TO A STOP. PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO VERY SLOWLY GET THE CAR TO A PARKING LOT (IT MOVED AT AN IDLE SPEED, BUT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OTHERWISE). WHEN I GOT TO THE PARKING LOT, I TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER WAITING A FEW MINUTES, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT SEEMED FINE. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS BEING A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH THEY ENDED UP REPLACING. THIS ISSUE OCCURRED ON 12/10/2013 ON A 2009 MERCURY MARINER THAT I PURCHASED NEW IN NOVEMBER OF 2008. IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 69,000 MILES ON IT WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS DRIVING AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 40 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. THERE ARE NUMEROUS NEWS REPORTS, FORUM AND BLOG POSTINGS, AND YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ON THEIR ESCAPES AND MARINERS. I ALSO FEEL THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS OCCURRED, I VERY LIKELY WOULD'VE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE 2009 MERCURY MARINER IS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. (AT LEAST 3 TIMES SO FAR) WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED, THE STEERING IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE. REPEATED RESTARTING OF THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES RESTART THE POWER STEERING AND THEN THE CAR IS DRIVABLE UNTIL IT IS SHUT OFF. THE DEALER TELLS US THAT THE ONLY REPAIR AUTHORIZED BY FORD IS THE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN - AN APPROXIMATELY $1300.00 PART PLUS THE HOURLY RATE. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TYPE OF FAILURE. IF IT WOULD OCCUR WHILE MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS DRIVING THE CAR, SHE WOULD BE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND WOULD MOST LIKELY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TRAVELING ALONG WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 65 WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY VEHICLE DECELERATES. THE "THROTTLE BODY/THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH" INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. VEHICLE HAS HAD INTERMITTENTLY GONE INTO "LIMP" SINCE THEN. LATELY IT HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST ONCE PER DAY, OFTEN WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY OR ABOVE 40MPH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED YESTERDAY (11/26/2013) AND INDICATED A P2111 DIAGNOSTIC CODE (THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN). THIS IS APPARENTLY A FAIRLY COMMON ISSUE ALREADY UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE SOLUTION SEEMS TO BE HAVE A DEALER REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY (ROUGHLY $400 PARTS AND LABOR). *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST ALL SPEED CONTROL. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE CAR BEGAN SLOWING DOWN. I HAD TO QUICKLY CHANGE LANES AND PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE 2009 MERCURY MARINER HAS AN ISSUE THAT OCCURS WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WHEN POWER WAS CUT OFF FROM THE ACCELERATION, THE WRENCH SYMBOL ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATED (WHICH INDICATES A POWERTRAIN/THROTTLE CONTROL PROBLEM), AND I WAS ONLY ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE TO PARK. THE VEHICLE NEVER GAVE ANY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM UNTIL THE WRENCH LIT UP AND THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED WORKING. IT STARTED A WEEK AGO AND HAS HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES SINCE (WITH MINIMAL DRIVING). ONCE THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AND I STOP THE CAR, I AM ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK, TURN THE CAR OFF, START IT BACK UP, AND DRIVE AGAIN LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 176,000.

SHOP DETERMINED IT WAS FAULTY THROTTLE BODY ( THERE WERE OVER 700,000 ORDERS FOR REPLACEMENTS ON WEBSITE AT THIS TIME)PART WAS ON BACKORDER---CAME IN, WAS REPLACED AND I PAID THE BILL OF $720.60 FOR PARTS, LABOR, TOWING AND TAXES. IT RAN WITHOUT INCIDENT FOR 20 MINUTES UNTIL I REACHED HOME. 10/15/13 TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 60MPH THE ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF. I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO START IT, BUT IT WOULD NOT RESPOND. REPLACED THE RELAY SWITCH 10/18/13 TRAVELING ON MARKET STREET IN YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO AT A SPEED OF 30MPH THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I COASTED IN TO THE CENTER TURN LANE, PUT IT IN PARK, WAITED A MINUTE AND STARTED THE CAR. THE VEHICLE IS RIDING MORE ROUGH AND SPUTTERS NOW AND THEN. DROVE FOR 10 MINUTES IN CITY TRAFFIC WITHOUT INCIDENT 10/18/13 WHILE DRIVING 45MPH IN RURAL AREA THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND STARTED THE ENGINE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I NOTICE A YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ON IN THE LOWER LEFT PORTION OF MY DASHBOARD. CAR RIDES ROUGH AND SPUTTERS A BIT. AFTER ALL THESE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME I REFUSE TO DRIVE THE CAR. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND IS NOT DEPENDABLE. THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT ALL SPEEDS, BUT ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT WARNING IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
MY MERCURY MARINER 2009 HAS HAD ISSUES FOR THE PAST YEAR IN REGARDS TO THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY GOES INTO "LIMP HOME MODE" AT REDUCED POWER, LIKE WHILE SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. I WILL COAST UNTIL I CAN GET TO A SAFE SPOT TO HAVE TO POWER IT OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR BACK AND FORTH TO WORK EACH DAY. I SAFELY STEERED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO RE-START THE CAR (WITH SOME HESITATION). I THEN TURNED AROUND TO ATTEMPT TO DRIVE HOME. THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRED ONE MORE TIME WHILE TRAVELING HOME (APPROX. 30 MILES). I BROUGHT THE CAR TO METRIC MOTORS OF LAKE CARMEL, NY. THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL. THEY SAID THAT THEY UNSTUCK THE PART (COST TO DIAGNOSE & MAKE REPAIRS $422+) AND I AGAIN BEGAN DRIVING THE CAR. UNFORTUNATELY, AFTER VISITING NYC ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2013, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED, AGAIN WHILE DRIVING HOME ON THE TACONIC STATE PARKWAY. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR; HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 10 MORE TIMES OVER THE 40 MILE RETURN TRIP TO MY HOME. EACH TIME THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE AND WHILE STILE IN GEAR, MERELY BEGAN COASTING. EACH TIME, I SAFELY STEERED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER, AND EVENTUALLY RE-STARTED THE CAR AND MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME. *TR

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2009 MERCURY MARINER AT A SPEED OF 25 MPH. THE STEERING WHEEL BASICALLY LOCKED UP. NO WARNING. I CHECKED ONLINE AND THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING.
