TAKAKA RECALL: STILL WAITING FOR REPLACEMENT. BRAKES: I WAS TAKING MY GRANDDAUGHTER HOME AND HAD TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR!! MY HEART WAS IN MY THROAT. FORTUNATELY NO-ONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP AFTER PUMPING MANY TIMES.MY SERVICE CENTER SAID I NEEDED A NEW ABS SYSTEM COSTING $1500.
WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL BUT WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY STOPPED MAKING THE PARTS.
ON 01/05/18 I HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES TO AVOID A CAR RUNNING A STOP SIGN ON A CITY STREET. THE BRAKE PEDAL VIBRATED-PULSED AS ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED. THEN THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND BARELY STOPPED BEFORE HITTING THE OTHER CAR. SCARED ME BAD! AFTER, THE BRAKES ARE VERY SOFT AND PEDAL TRAVEL IS DEFINITELY MUCH MORE THAN BEFORE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND AFTER A QUICK GOOGLE I FIND THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE COMPLAINTS CONCERNING THE ABS SYSTEM HAVE A WIDE RANGE OF OCCURRENCES THAT SEEMS NOT TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH MILEAGE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND MY CAR HAS LESS THAN 42,000 MILES. I'VE SEEN COMPLAINTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO CARS WITH OVER 150,000 MILES. THAT WOULD SEEM TO RULE OUT THE NOTION OF WORN OUT ABS PUMPS. WITH A PART REPLACEMENT COST IN THE $600 RANGE (NOT INCLUDING INSTALLATION) I CAN SEE WHY FORD HESITATES TO ISSUE A RECALL BUT A RECALL IS WHAT SHOULD BE DONE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN! I URGE YOU TO PLEASE SEE THIS TREND THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR WAY TOO LONG!
TAKATA RECALL - I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE, DATED MARCH, 2017, INSTRUCTING ME TO CONTACT MY DEALER (MASON CITY FORD LINCOLN) FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT AIRBAG. UNFORTUNATELY, I BROKE MY BACK ON CHRISTMAS EVE, 2016 AND HAD EXTENSIVE SURGERY IN AUGUST, 2017, SO I DID NOT MAKE THE CALL TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE UNTIL JANUARY 3, 2018. AT THAT TIME, THE SERVICE REPAIR PERSON INFORMED ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT PART NECESSARY TO REMEDY THE SITUATION HAD NOT YET BEEN MADE AVAILABLE TO HIM BY THE COMPANY. I ASKED SPECIFICALLY, "SO YOU ARE TELLING ME THAT THERE IS NO WAY YOU ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN THE PART AT THIS TIME TO MAKE THE REPAIR NEEDED TO MAKE THIS VEHICLE SAFE?" THE SERVICE PERSON REPLIED THAT WAS CORRECT, THAT THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. I AGAIN RESTATED, "SO I AM JUST SUPPOSED TO CONTINUE DRIVING AROUND WITH AIRBAGS FULL OF SHRAPNEL?" HE REPLIED THAT HE WAS SORRY. OBVIOUSLY, THIS RESPONSE AND COMPLETE LACK OF REMEDIAL OPTIONS IS DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE. IT IS PREPOSTEROUS THAT LIVES CONTINUE TO BE AT STAKE DUE TO A LACK OF PARTS, THAT THIS FACT IS WELL DOCUMENTED (SEE WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV) AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO FORCE THE COMPANY'S HAND, WHILE IN THE MEANTIME THEY ARE CONVENIENTLY ABLE TO MAKE USE OF THE NATION'S BANKRUPTCY COURTS TO FURTHER MITIGATE THEIR LOSSES. IN WHAT WAY IS THE CONSUMER BEING PROTECTED HERE? WHAT IS THE POINT OF A RECALL IF THE CONSUMER IS UNABLE TO RID HIMSELF OF THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT? OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS A VERY SERIOUS FLAW IN THIS SYSTEM, AS THE PROTECTION I AM RECEIVING IS VIRTUALLY NIL. AS I HAVE NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN A RECALL PRIOR TO THIS, I HAVE BEEN OPERATING UNDER THE POSSIBLY MISTAKEN BELIEF THAT THIS WAS A VALID AND EFFECTIVE SYSTEM. I AM HOPING TO SEE THE PROOF.
TAKATA RECALL 16S26/HTSA RECALL 16V-384 NOTIFIED OF RECALL SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, I AM AFRAID TO HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE CAR DUE TO THE EVENT OF A CRASH AND AIR BAG RUPTURE INCREASING THE RISK OF "SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH" AS STATED IN THE NOTICE. PLEASE PROVIDE A RESOLUTION.
TAKATA RECALL THE RECALL APPEARS TO BE ONGOING. I PLAN TO MOVE OUT OF STATE REQUIRING ME TO DRIVE LONG DISTANCE WITH A PASSENGER, A PET AND MY BELONGINGS. WITH THE RECALL ON THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE GOING FORWARD WITH MY MOVE. MY OTHER OPTION IS TO SELL THE CAR, BUT THAT WOULD NOT BE FAIR TO THE BUYER. PLEASE PROVIDE AN ALTERNATE SOLUTION BESIDES A RENTAL CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WAS VERY SOFT AND HAD TO BE DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD IN ORDER TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILLAGE WAS 48,000.
LOSS OF BRAKES WHEN ABS WAS ACTIVE AND HIT A BUMP. THIS HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME THE PEDAL GOES TO NEAR THE FLOOR WITH GREATLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE.
I'M JUST NOW GETTING A RECALL LETTER STATING THAT PARTS FOR MY CAR HAVE BEEN RECALLED AND IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THEY HAVE KNOWN SINCE JULY 2016. ADDITIONALLY IT STATES THAT THEY HAVE SENT ME A PREVIOUS LETTER WHICH IS ENTIRELY NOT FACTUAL AND THIS IS THE FIRST I'M HEARING ABOUT IT. ALSO THERE IS NO FIX? SO HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO TRUST THE SAFETY OF MY CAR WHEN THEY CAN'T EVEN FIX IT FOR ME? I ALSO FIND IT CONVENIENT THAT THEY ARE JUST NOW LETTING ME NOW, NOW THAT IT'S OVER THE STATUTORY TIME FRAME IN WHICH THEY WOULD HAVE TO FIX ON THEIR DIME.
TAKATA RECALL - I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP TO GET MY CAR SERVICED FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL REPLACEMENT AND THEY STATED THEY RECEIVED A LETTER INFORMING THEM THERE ARE NO AIRBAG PARTS TO REPLACE THE RECALLED EQUIPMENT DUE TO TAKATA FILING FOR BANKRUPTCY. THE DEADLINE FOR FILING PROOF OF CLAIM IS 12/27/2017 BUT NO PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL SPRING 2018, ACCORDING TO THE LETTER THE DEALERSHIP RECEIVED. I DID SUBMIT A CLAIM FORM ON THE TKRESTRUCTURING.COM/PPIC PAGE AS WELL.
AFTER AN ABS EVENT (BRAKING IN SNOW) , THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR, REPEATEDLY SINKS TO THE FLOOR AND WILL NO LONGER STOP THE VEHICLE SAFELY. THIS IS THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. PREVIOUSLY BRAKE PUMPING OR BLEEDING RESTORED NORMAL OPERATION. THIS TIME REQUIRED SERVICE FROM MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED A FAILED HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT OF THE ABS SYSTEM.
TAKATA RECALL I HAVE CONTACTED MY CARLOT WHOM TOLD ME TO CONTACT FORD.I DID SO I TOLD THEM OF THE ISSUE AND I WAS BLOWN OFF I THEN PROCEEDED TO INFORM THEM THAT I HAVE A FAMILY OF 5 IN WHICH I NEED USE OF MY PASSENGER SEAT THEY CONTINUED TO SAY THEY UNDERSTAND MY FRUSTRATION AND THAT I WOULD NOT BE COMPENSATED FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE I WAS TOLD BY MY CARLOT THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TRADE MY VEHICLE IN WHICH I WOULD HAVE TO PAY CASH FOR I NEED THIS TO BE ESCALATED TO HIGHER LEVELS OF HELP
DEALER IS NOT RESPONSIVE TO REQUESTS ON PROGRESS WITH REPLACING TAKATA EXPLOSIVE AIRBAGS
BRAKES WERE APPLIED HARD TO AVOID DOG RUNNING OUT IN ROAD, AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE BRAKE PEDAL SINKS TO FLOOR THEN BRAKES SUDDENLY SLAM ON WHEN PEDAL IS ALMOST AT THE FLOOR. YOU HAVE TO PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET NORMAL PRESSURE FOR ONE STOP. FUSE WAS REMOVED FOR ABS PUMP AND BRAKE PEDAL RETURNS TO NORMAL HEIGHT AND BRAKES WORK NORMALLY WITHOUT ABS HELP. WHEN ABS PUMP FUSE IS REPLACED BRAKE PEDAL GOES SOFT AGAIN. HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.
TAKATA INFLATORS: THERE SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN ENOUGH TIME NOW TO GET THE AIRBAGS REPLACED. THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS CAR AND I JUST THINK THAT IF THIS WERE THE DAUGHTER OF A BIG WHEEL AT TAKATA, THE AIR BAG WOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALREADY. ENOUGH TIME, GET IT DONE !!!!
THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW THAT MY MILAN HAS LOST ALL BRAKES AFTER THE ABS WAS ENGAGED ON A SLUSHY WINTER ROAD. IN 2016 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF HER STOPPED ABRUBPTLY SO SHE HIT THE BRAKES THE CAR ENGAGED THE ABS AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC HE REPLACED THE ABS MPDULE AND EVERYTHING WAS GOOD UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY. AGAIN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE WEATHER GOT BAD AND THE ROADS TURNED TO SLUSH. SHE SAYS THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO APPLY THE BRAKE WHILE SHE WAS NOT. THEN SHE WENT TO SLOW DOWN FOR A CURVE THE ABS ENGAGED THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR LOST CONTROL. SLAMMING INTO THE CURB QUITE HARD. NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE ANOTHER ABS MODULE AS WELL AS HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED FOR ANY OTHER DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE IMPACT AND POSSIBLY PAY FOR THAT. THANKFULLY NOBODY WAS HURT IN EITHER OF OUR INCIDENTS BUT THIS IS A SERIOUS FLAW IN THIS CAR THAT CAN POTENTIALLY HURT OR KILL PEOPLE.
AFTER AN ABS EVENT THE BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT, MUSHY, GOES HALFWAY DOWN, AND PUMPS UP. IT SEEMS LIKE AIR IS INTRODUCED INTO THE SYSTEM AS BLEEDING THE BRAKES FIXES THE LOW BRAKE PEDAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM TO BE IN THE ABS CONTROLLER.
THERE IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES GOING OUT AFTER THE ABS IS ACTIVATED. ANYTIME THE ABS IS ACTIVATED THERE IS A BRAKE LOSS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME.THE OTHER DAY I LOST MY FRONT BRAKES AFTER THE ABS WENT OFF ON A SNOWY DAY. I SLID THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WITH JUST THE REAR BRAKES. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH JUST THE REAR BRAKES IN THE SNOW. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER IS FULL. THE BRAKES DID COME BACK TO NORMAL A DAY LATER. ALTHOUGH THIS HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER THE ABS WENT OFF. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HOPE THAT FORD IS CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY AND WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM SOON. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE DESIGNED TO KEEP US SAFE AND NOT PUT US IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
EVERY TIME THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE, THE BRAKES GO SOFT AND TO THE FLOOR. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP ( CURRENTLY 10 DAYS) AND THEY CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS LAST TIME I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35 MPH AND WENT TO STOP AT A STOP LIGHT AND DID NOT STOP BEFORE IT AND WENT INTO THE INTERSECTION. THE BRAKES NEVER REGAINED HARDNESS.
TAKATA RECALL RECIEVED RECALL NOTICE ON JULY 2016 AS OF THIS DATE STILL NO PARTS. RECIEVED LETTER NOVEMBER 2017 NO PASSANGER TO RIDE IN FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. MY VEHICAL WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT IN DECEMBER 2017 AND THE ON THE DRIVERS FRONT FENDER, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WAS NOT SURE IF THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO.THE CAR SLAMED INTO ANOTHER CARS BACK BUMPER ON THE OTHER CARS LEFT SIDE. IT SLID DUE TO ROAD CONDITIONS OF WEATHER. IT WAS AT 3PM ON A ROAD WITH 35 MPH SPEED LIMIT.THE OTHER CAR WAS TURNING WITHOUT A TURN SIGNAL.WE HAD THE CAR REPAIRED THROUGH OUR INSURANCE AT STATE FARM. $4000 DAMAGE.

AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO PROPERLY SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTOR AND PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO AN ABS FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TAKARA RECALL. FRONT AIRBAGS BUCKLE DURING STATIONARY MODE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. DRIVER'S SEAT AIRBAGS ALSO BUCKLED OFF TRACK WHILE IN MOTION.
NO BRAKES AFTER ABS COMES ON DURING DRIVING ON SLIPPERY ROADS OR WET ROADS. PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. WILL NOT RESET. ALL OF THE BRAKES AND CALIPERS HAVE BEEN CHANGED OR CHECKED. HAVE TO PUMP TO HAVE BRAKES TO GET PEDAL TO BE ABLE TO STOP.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V384000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. SUMMIT FORD LINCOLN (305 GRANT AVENUE, AUBURN, NEW YORK 13021, (315) 252-7255) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE RECALL AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TAKATA RECALL. DESPITE BEING NOTIFIED OVER A YEAR AGO THAT MY PASSENGER AIRBAG COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE DEATH TO ANY PASSENGERS IN THE CASE OF DEPLOYMENT, I AM TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO AIRBAG REPLACEMENTS AT THE LOCAL DEALER AND THAT THERE IS NO ESTIMATED TIME FRAME FOR THEIR AVAILABILITY. SO I AM STUCK DRIVING A POTENTIAL DEATH TRAP DUE TO THE NEGLIGENCE OF TAKATA BOTH IN DESIGN AND IN REMEDIATION OF THEIR GRAVE ERROR. TK HOLDINGS SENT ME A POSTCARD URGING THAT I GET THE AIRBAG REPLACED AS TAKATA HAS DECLARED BANKRUPTCY, BUT THERE SEEMS TO BE NO ACTUAL WAY TO DO SO. SO I CONTINUE TO BE STUCK DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE DUE TO MANUFACTURER NEGLIGENCE.
I WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, AND WHEN WAS NEARING A STOP SIGN I PRESSED THE BRAKE. IT STARTED OUT TIGHT, THEN SLOWLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS TOLD BY A REPAIR SHOP THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE ABS SYSTEM, AND IS VERY COMMON IN THIS MODEL.
WHEN DRIVING AND TRYING TO BRAKE, THE PEDDLE GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR & THE CAR DOES NOT STOP. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. HAVE ALMOST HIT CARS & PEDESTRIANS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE AT ALL WHEN THIS HAPPENS
TAKATA RECALL: I HAVE RCVD NUMEROUS RECALL WARNINGS HOWEVER WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY HADN'T YET RECEIVED REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS! NOW I'M RECEIVING A NOTICE THAT TAKATA HAS FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY SO I SHOULD TAKE ACTION! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE ACTION? WHY AREN'T THESE AIRBAGS AVAILABLE SO THEY CAN BE REPLACED BEFORE A PROBLEM?
TAKATA RECALL. WHEN CALLING DEALERSHIPS THAT ARE BOOKING FOR REPLACEMENT OF TAKATA AIR BAGS, I AM TOLD THE PARTS ARE NOT IN FOR THE MERCURY MILAN AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE IN. HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT? I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR.
"TAKATA RECALL" IN THE LAST 1 1/2 YEAR I HAVE SPENT $1500 IN BRAKE ISSUES. BRAKE PEDAL JUST GOES SOFT. THIS IS WITHIN THE LAST 7000 MILES THAT I HAVE OWED THE CAR. CURRENT MILES 68,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT HAD TO STEER INTO A CURB TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DORIAN FORD (35900 GRATIOT AVE, CLINTON TWP, MI, 586-792-4100) WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TAKATA RECALL: RECEIVED A LETTER IN JULY 2016 FOR THIS RECALL. NO MOVEMENT FROM FORD. THEY HAVE BEEN CONTACTED TWICE. SECOND CONCERN: "SOFT BRAKES" THE PEDDLE HAS TOO MUCH PLAY AND IS A CONCERN FOR STOPPING DISTANCE. CALLED FORD AND THEY STATED MY VEHICLE NOT INCLUDED EVEN THOUGH I AM EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM WITH MY BRAKES.
THE NAPLETON LINCOLN DEALER IN GLENVIEW SAID THAT THE PARTS HAVE NOT YET COME OUT, SO THEY CANNOT FIX THE AIRBAGS. THEY SAID THE PARTS ARE FIRST BEING SENT TO THE SOUTH AND WILL BE COMING TO THE MIDWEST AFTER.
TAKATA RECALL RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM TAKATA ABOUT AIRBAG RECALL AND CHAPTER 11 AND MY AIR BAGS IN MY 2008 MERCURY MILAN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED NICK MAYER LINCOLN MERCURY IN WESTLAKE, OHIO AND THEY SHARED THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPLACE MY AIRBAGS BECAUSE LINCOLN AND FORD HAD NO PARTS SUPPLIED FROM TAKATA TO COMPLETE THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AIR BAGS

TAKATA RECALL - WHEN I CHECK ON THE RECALL IT STATES REMEDY NOT YET AVAILABLE, HOWEVER WITH TAKATA CORPORATION FILING BANKRUPTCY I AM CONCERNED THAT THE RECALL ON MY CAR WILL NEVER GET DONE - WHAT SHOULD I DO? THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON IN MY CAR, I AM CONCERNED THAT IT MIGHT NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE.

TAKATA RECALL. RECALL HAS BEEN IN PLACED SINCE JUNE 2016 AND WHEN CALLING TO SCHEDULE SERVICE I AM TOLD THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL- CALLED (2) SERVICE PROVIDERS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA FROM LIST ON WWW.AIRBAGRECALL.COM- BOTH SAID "TAKATA HAS NOT MADE REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE- CANNOT PERFORM SERVICE".
THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS PROBLEM HAPPENED DURING THE LAST YEAR. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET, APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT OR REQUIRING TO "HARD" STOP WITH TRAFFIC, MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, AND IN A SOMEWHAT SLOW DOWN, TAKING ABOUT 2-3 CAR LENGTHS TO COME TO A STOP, IT WOULD COME TO A STOP. I PUMPED MY BRAKES TO TRY AND MAKE IT STOP SOONER, AND GET A LITTLE RESISTANCE. ON 2 OCCASIONS, I KNOW I WAS TRAVELING OVER A MANHOLE COVER "WHILE THE BRAKE WAS ON" AND THEN NO BRAKES. I TOOK IT, ON 3 OCCASIONS, TO AUTO REPAIR AND THEY FIND NOTHING. NO LIGHTS COME ON, NO SIGNALS ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS IS VERY DISTURBING BECAUSE THEY HAVE GIVEN MY CAR A "CLEAR" BILL OF HEALTH. MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ABS BRAKE SYSTEM. YOU CAN FEEL SORT OF SHAKE AS SOON AS IT STARTS. RECEIPTS ARE ATTACHED FROM EACH INCIDENT. I HAVE NOTICED THIS IS AN "EXTENDED BREAKING DISTANCE" IN AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ON THIS SITE. PLEASE...THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE DEALERS SHOULD HAVE A RECALL. THANK YOU.
UPON BRAKING WHILE DRIVING OVER UNEVEN PAVEMENT OR LOOSE GRAVEL, OR WHILE ACCELERATING THROUGH A TURN, THE ABS [OR TRACTION CONTROL] MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SINK TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKING DISTANCE TO BE DRAMATICALLY INCREASE. THIS HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES NOW, TWICE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR, AND THE LAST TIME NEARLY HAD ME GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 55-60 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY DUE TO A MERGE IN FRONT OF THEM. I HIT THE BRAKES AS NORMAL, ABOUT 50% PEDAL DEPRESSION, AND THE CAR STARTED BRAKING NORMALLY UNTIL IT PASSED OVER A SMALL PATCH OF LOOSE GRAVEL ON THE FREEWAY, AT WHICH POINT THE PEDAL SANK TO THE GROUND AND THE VEHICLE NO LONGER PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN. I HAD TO VEER TO THE LEFT, NEARLY COLLIDING WITH THE CENTER MEDIAN AND ENDED UP PASSING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE OF THE BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASING. I HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE LOOKED INTO AND EVEN A TECH AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT IT IS A FAULTY ABS HCU (HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT), AND THAT THE VALVES STICKING IN THE HCU CAUSE THE PRESSURE TO GO INTO A SEMI-INFINITE LOOP INSTEAD OF EXITING OUT BACK TO THE CALIPERS. THIS CAUSES AROUND 80% OF THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TO BE WASTED, AND BRAKING REQUIRES DEPRESSING THE PEDAL NEARLY TO THE FLOOR. THE TECH ADMITTED THAT THERE ARE NEW HCUS AVAILABLE THAT DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM, AND THERE IS A POTENTIAL RECALL PENDING. THE TECH INSTRUCTED ME TO REMOVE THE ABS FUSE AS WELL AS THE ABS PUMP FUSE, WHICH STOPS THE PROBLEM FROM HAPPENING. I HAVE CONFIRMED AFTER 10,000 MILES THAT WITH THE ABS FUSES OUT, THE PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR. I HAVE CONTACTED MY ATTORNEY REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND AM WAITING ON SAID POTENTIAL RECALL FOR A REPAIR TO MY VEHICLE.
THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE DISTANCE. OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS DURING A MODERATE TO HARD STOP. BREAKS AND SYSTEM HAVE BEEN INSPECTED AND MECHANIC DOES NOT FIND ANY OBVIOUS ISSUES. BREAKS ARE "SOFT" AND TAKE A HALF SECOND TO ENGAGE WHEN FOOT IS APPLIED. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR.
AFTER A HARD BREAKING ON A SLIPPERY ROAD ON A CITY STREET AT ABOUT 45 MPH THE BRAKE PEDAL NOW GOES WAY FURTHER DOWN THAN IT USED TO. SEEMS TO HAVE LOST ANY EFFECT FOR AT LEAST HALF ITS TRAVEL. VERY SCARY THE FIRST TIME YOU NOTICE IT.
I HAVE AN ISSUE WITH MY ABS PUMP THAT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE A COLLISION SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE ALMOST HIT PEOPLE IN THE REAR AND I HAVE ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF AND INTERSECTION TWICE! MY MECHANIC SAYS THE ISSUE IS THE ABS PUMP BYPASSING AND THE NEW PART IS AROUND $700!! YOU HIT THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL HAST TO GO TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKES ENGAGE. VERY DANGEROUS!
