TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMERGED FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STOPPED AND PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER WHEN HE NOTICED THAT A SECOND LUG NUT DETACHED FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. THE FIRST LUG NUT DETACHED FROM THE SAME WHEEL ON JULY 1, 2017. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE OWNER WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I JUST NOTICED THAT I NOW HAVE A MISSING WHEEL STUD AND LUG NUT ON BOTH OF MY FRONT WHEELS. THIS CAR DOES HAVE THE 17" STEEL WHEELS. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR STUDS BREAKING BACK IN 2011, 11S23, AND ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, THE STUDS WERE INSPECTED AND LUGS NUTS WERE REPLACED BEFORE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN JUNE OF 2011. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 86,805 MILES ON IT. THE LAST TIRE ROTATION WAS JUST ABOUT A YEAR AGO AT 75,114 MILES AND WAS DONE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. AT THAT POINT I PAID TO HAVE ONE OF THE FRONT WHEEL STUDS REPLACE BECAUSE THEY SAID IT WAS STRIPPED OUT.
THE LUG NUTS CAME APART AFTER ABOUT 50,000 MILES. ALL 20 LUG NUTS ON MY VEHICLE CAME APART. THE OUTER, CHROME COVERS SEPARATED FROM THE NUT. THIS DEGRADATION OF THE METAL AFFECTS THE INTEGRITY OF THE NUT AND COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT OR INJURY IF THE NUT(S) WORKED THEIR WAY OFF OF THE WHEEL(S). I FIRST NOTICED THE CONDITION WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE WHEELS.

THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V574000 (WHEELS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LUG NUTS WERE FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE FRONT WHEELS. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HINES PARK FORD (56558 PONTIAC TRAIL, NEW HUDSON, MI 48165), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
COOPER CS4 TOURING TIRES CONTINUED LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE ON ALL 4 TIRES. THESE TIRES HAVE BEEN DISMOUNTED AND REMOUNTED AT LEAST 3 TIMES TO RESEAL THE BEADS BUT AFTER A FEW MONTHS WILL START TO LEAK AIR. AIR LOSS IS APPROXIMATELY 3 PSI PER DAY. SIDE WALLS AND TREAD AREAS HAVE EXCESSIVE SURFACE CRACKING. ONE YEAR EARLIER ONE OF THE TIRES BLEW OUT AND WAS REPLACED WITH A COOPER CS5 TIRE BECAUSE THE CS4 WAS DISCONTINUED. THAT TIRE HOLDS AIR PERFECTLY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND HAS ALREADY LEAD TO A BLOW OUT.
DRIVING DOWN HWY AT NORMAL SPEED AND THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE FLEW OFF. 3 OF THE WHEEL STUDS ARE MISSING NOW AND I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE THE TIRER ROLLED TO. MY CAR SLIDE IN SOME BUSHES. NO REAL DAMAGE THAT I SAW (INCIDENT HAPPENED AT NIGHT). *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE WHEEL STUD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V574000 (WHEELS). THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

NO INCIDENT TO REPORT. . .YET. THIS COMPLAINT IS RE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 11S23 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V574000.) AS NOTED IN THE "REMEDY" SECTION, FORD NOTIFIED ME OF THE RECALL; ON FEBRUARY 6TH, THE DEALER (BRANDON FORD IN FLORIDA) INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT REPLACEMENT WAS NECESSARY. BRANDON FORD DID NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY PARTS IN STOCK; I WAS TOLD THEY WOULD CALL WHEN THEY ARRIVED. ON MARCH 15TH, STILL WITH A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE, I CONTACTED BRANDON FORD AGAIN AND EXPLAINED THAT I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO MICHIGAN ON APRIL 13TH. TODAY (3/16), I WAS TOLD THAT THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AND DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY'LL GET THEM. [XXX] AT BRANDON FORD TOLD ME THAT I (NOT THEM, NOT FORD) COULD TRY OTHER DEALERS OR CALL THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE # (I GUESS I HAVE TO.) TWO MONTHS SHOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM. SO ALTHOUGH A "REMEDY" HAS BEEN OUTLINED IN THE NHTSA DATABASE, THERE APPEARS TO BE NO CONCERN BY FORD TO ACTUALLY IMPLEMENT AND NO FOLLOW-UP BY NHTSA TO VERIFY THAT FORD FIXES THE PROBLEM. I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR FROM FLORIDA TO MICHIGAN. IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED (WITHOUT ME HAVING TO CALL ALL OVER FLORIDA LOOKING FOR A PART TO REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE PART) OR THEY NEED TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR.
