WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH ENGINE STILL RUNNING, AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND HIT REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. DEALER STATED WE NEVER HEARD SOMETHING LIKE THIS. *AK
BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH FAILURES THAT CAUSED BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL. *LA
BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SWITCH FAILURE THAT CAUSED BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL. THE SAME FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED ON JUNE 7, 2002. IN ADDITION THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON APRIL 19,2001 TO COMPLY WITH RECALL 01S08. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS NOT THE PROBLEM. IT WILL FAIL AGAIN. *LA
IMMEDIATELY UPON STARTING MY 2000 MERCURY SABLE (CAR HAD BEEN OFF AND PARKED FOR 4+ HOURS), THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION UNDER THE HOOD. IT SOUNDED LIKE A SONIC BOOM (PEOPLE PARKED 2 CARS AWAY FROM MINE THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD HIT THEIR CAR THE PERCUSSION WAS SO INTENSE). SMOKE/VAPOR WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD AND I RAN INSIDE THE ESTABLISHMENT WHERE I WAS PARKED AND GOT A FIRE EXTINQUISHER. AFTER GETTING THE EXTINGUISHER, A CONCERNED PASSERBY ASKED THAT I OPEN THE HOOD. THERE WAS NO FIRE BUT A LOT OF VAPOR. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD HAD BLOWN UP. THERE WERE 2 PIECES THAT WE FOUND NEAR THE MANIFOLD AND THE MANIFOLD LOOKED AS IF IT HAD BEEN SPLIT ALONG ITS HORIZONTAL AXIS. THE FELT MATERIAL UNDERPINNING THE HOOD WAS RIPPED IN SEVERAL PLACES. I CALLED A FORD AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER WHERE WE HAVE TAKEN SEVERAL VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR SHOP. IT THEN HAD TO BE TAKEN TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER SINCE THE SERVICE CENTER SAID THEY DID NOT "HAVE THE PROPER EQUIPMENT TO FIX IT". UPON INVESTIGATION ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY SIMILAR INCIDENTS ON FILE, I FOUND AN ARTICLE THAT WAS IN THE JOURNAL OF THE ALLIANCE OF AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE PROVIDERS, AASP BY MARK GIAMMALVO DESCRIBING AN INCIDENT IDENTICAL TO MINE. THERE HAD BEEN 2 "OWNER NOTIFICATIONS" ISSUED BY FORD - 00B38 APRIL 2000 AND 00B55 IN SEPTEMBER 2000 THAT RELATED TO A PCM REPROGRAMMING THAT WAS NEEDED. I DID NOT PURCHASE THE VEHICLE UNTIL OCTOBER 2000. ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHO REPAIRED THE VEHICLE ONE PCM REPROGRAMMING HAD BEEN DONE IN JUNE 2000. THE FORD DEALERSHIP DID REPAIR THE CAR: "REPLACED INTAKE MANIFOLD & GASKETS, UPDATED CALIBRATION ALREADY SET IN PCM, NO LATER CALIBRATION IS AVAILABLE". MY GREATEST CONCERN OVER THIS INCIDENT IS THAT IF THE HOOD HAD BEEN OPEN AT THE TIME THE MANIFOLD EXPLODED, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS INJURY TO ANYONE NEARBY. *AK
INTERMITTENTLY THE STICK SHIFT GEAR INDICATOR STUCK FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE. DEALER INSPECTED, CHARGED $400.OO FOR REPAIRS, PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. CONSUMER MANAGED TO PULL OVER. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP BUT THE PROBLEM HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED.*AK
COMPLAINT REGARDING THE WAY RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ON VEHICLE.*MR THE CONSUMER HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS ISSUED IN THE RECALL FOR BRAKE LIGHTS AND THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED ON THERE VEHICLE AND IT WAS OUT DATED. THE CONSUMER WAS VERY DISSATISFIED WITH THE DEALERSHIP ASSISTANCE BECAUSE REPAIRS HAD NOT BEEN MADE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY NESS OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE RESPOND PROMPTLY IN RESOLVING MATTERS. *CB
WHILE DRIVING ABS BRAKE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INTERMITTENTLY. *AK
STOP LAMPS STAY ON. CONDITION CAUSES DEAD BATTERY. STOP LAMP SWITCH IS DEFECTIVE. THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN RECALL 01S08 FOR THE STOP LAMP SWITCH REPLACMENT. CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE. THEY CLAIM RECALL WAS DONE 2 YEARS AGO. PART HAS FAILED AGAIN AND THEY WILL NOT COVER THIS. RECALL LETTER ADVISES FILING COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE. VEHICLE JUMPED ON THE CURB ,AND THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE AFTER TRAVELING ANOTHER THIRTY FEET.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE.VEHICLE JUMPED THE CURB, AND THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE AFTER TRAVELING ANOTHER 30 FEET. AFTER ARRIVING HOME I FOUND THAT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS PARTIALLY ON. I COULD SMELL HOT BRAKES. *AK
LOUD EXPLOSION WHICH WAS RESULT OF BACK FIRE BLOWING OUT UPPER INTAKE MANIFOLD. THIS CONDITION IS ADRESSED IN FORD OWNER NOTIFICATION 00B38 (AFFECTING 2000 SABLE AND TAURUS WITH 3.0L DURATEC ENGINE) IN WHICH FORD AGREED TO REPROGRAM THE PCM TO PREVENT THIS BACKFIRE AND RUPTURED INAKE CONDITION. PROGRAM WAS ONLY OPEN FROM APRIL 2000 TO APRIL 2001. OBVIOUSLY THIS CAR WAS NEVER REPROGRAMMED DUE TO LACK MAILING ISSUE OR CHANGE OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP. THESE VEHICLES THAT ARE UNREPAIRED PRESENT A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISK TO AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE PERSONEL WORKING IN THE AREA WHEN THE HOOD IS OPEN. THE BLAST OF THE PLASTIC INTAKE PIECES IS OF SUCH A VIOLENT NATURE THAT EVEN THE UNDERHOOD INSULATION IS DAMAGED. BELIEVE THAT THESE VEHICLES SHOULD ALL BE REPRGRAMMED REGARDLESS OF DATE. *AK
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THERE WERE NO BRAKE LIGHTS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE TURNED THE KEY TO FIRST CLICK, HE PRESSED THE GEAR SHIFTER DOWN AND SHIFTED THE GEARS. THE GAS STATION REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. *AK THE BRAKE SWITCH WAS REPLACED ONCE BEFORE PER MERCURY DIVISION RECALL IN MARCH, 2001. *SCC *JB
THE PULLEY ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP CRACKED AND DISINTEGRATED.*MR *NLM
DEFECTIVE EGR VALVES CAUSED VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. REPLACEMENT PART WAS MADE OF DIFFERENT MATERIAL THAN THE ORIGINAL ONE INSTALLED WHEN THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. MECHANIC WELL REPLACE IN 6-8 WEEKS. *MR *CB *JB
CONSUMER IS ABLE TO START VEHICLE BUT WONT ENGAGE FROM PARK TO DRIVE, GEAR SHIFT WON'T MOVE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
BRAKES SHUDDER WHEN APPLIED, BEEN CUT DOWN ONCE ALREADY STOPPED FOR ABOUT 5000 MILES THEN STARTED AGAIN INCREASING IN INTENSITY AS MILEAGE CLIMBED, ALSO CAR WILL SHUT OFF FOR A MOMENT OR TWO CAUSING LOSS OF ALL POWER, AND ALL DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS TO COME ON, ALSO HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH TWICE NOW.*AK
ON 06/26/03 2000 SABLE PARKED IN FRIENDS DRIVEWAY IN PARK RUNNING WITH A/C ON AND DRIVER LEFT VEHICLE. DRIVER WENT TO FRONT DOOR AND THEN HEARD A BOOM. CAR WENT UP A SLIGHT GRADE AND CONTINUED FOR 15 FEET AND STRUCK FRIENDS NEW MOTOR HOME. OWNER OF MOTOR HOME OPENED CAR DOOR TO MOVE VEHICLE AND FOUND CAR STILL IN PARK. OWNER SELECTED REVERSE AND BACKED CAR AWAY FROM MOTOR HOME. METLIFE AUTO & HOME NOTIFIED. ON 06/27/03 THIS SABLE WAS DRIVEN AND PARKED IN A PARKING LOT AND TURNED OFF. WHEN DRIVER AND 2 PASSENGERS RETURNED TO CAR AND STARTED CAR AND SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, CAR PROCEEDED FORWARD. CAR WAS SHIFTED BACK TO PARK, DRIVER SAT THERE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND SHIFTED AGAIN BACK INTO REVERSE AND CAR AGAIN WENT FORWARD. CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND DRIVER RESTARTED CAR A FEW MINUTES LATER AND SHIFTED INTO REVERSE AND CAR WENT BACKWARDS. CAR WAS TAKEN TO MORRIS FORD IN BURNT HILLS, NY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP CONTACTED FORD'S FACTORY HOTLINE AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO REPORTS PERTAINING TO SUCH. FACTORY HOTLINE SAID THEY WOULD PASS INFO UP TO ENGINEERING. THEIR ADVISE WAS FOR THE DRIVER TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE. THAT'S REAL COMFORTING!!! THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED THE SHIFTER CABLE AND FOUND OKAY! THE CAR IS STILL AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE FACTORY HAS NOT RESPONDED BACK (07/05/03). THE CAR HAS ALSO HAD THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON AFTER PEDAL IS RELEASED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON WITH NO ONE IN THE CAR. THE CAR SHIFTER HAS LOCKED IN PARK AND WOULD NOT RELEASE TO ANOTHER POSITION. THE CAR HAS ACCELERATED WHILE DRIVING WITH NO INCREASE OF PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL. FORD MOTORS NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A PROBLEM THAT THEY SAY DOES NOT EXIST WHEN IT DOES EXIST AS EVIDENT BY THE NUMBER OF REPORTS FOR BOTH THE 2000 SABLE AND THE 2000 TAURUS. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS 2000 SABLE USED, FORD CREDIT OFFERED ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 6 YEARS OR 75,000 MILES WHICH I ACCEPTED. I AM BEGINNING TO WONDER IF THEY DON'T WANT TO HONOR THE WARRANTY.*AK
ELECTRICAL SHORT CAUSED CONNECTOR/WIRING TO COOLING SYSTEM FAN TO BURN. CONCERNED THAT AN ENGINE FIRE COULD HAVE RESULTED.*AK
WHILE PARKING MY VEHICLE I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR TOOK OFF LIKE IT WAS POSSESSED. IT WENT UP ONTO A GRASSY MEDIAN RAN HEAD ON INTO AND OVER A LIGHT POLE AND CAME TO REST AFTER HITTING A PARKED CAR HEAD ON. THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP THE CAR AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY!! THE CAR HAD BEEN TAKEN IN FOR A RECALL ON THE ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL EARLIER IN THE YEAR AND I WAS TOLD NO ADJUSTMENT WAS NECESSARY. SO FAR IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT OUR BRAKE PEDAL HAS TOO MUCH PLAY ON IT (IN OTHER WORDS IT MOVES SIDE TO SIDE TO MUCH--IS LOOSE?) THE ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL AND THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING ARE ISSUES THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED BY FORD ON THIS VEHICLE. *NLM
PETITION TO OPEN AN IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION INTO WHY THE MERCURY SABLE HAS EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, SHE OWNS A 2000 MERCURY SABLE WITH A DEFECTIVE BRAKE PEDAL & AIRBAGS.*MR THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL SYSTEM WHICH WAS RECALLED FOR THE SPACING BETWEEN THE PEDALS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED NO ADJUSTMENT. ONE DAY THE DRIVER WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ONTO A GRASSY MEDIAN AND HIT A LIGHT POLE. THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST AFTER HITTING A VEHICLE HEAD ON. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE INJURED. ON INSPECTION OF THE CAR IT WAS NOTED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD EXCESSIVE SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER INDICATED THIS WAS A NORMAL CONDITION. *TS *NLM
2000 MERCURY SABLE WITH ADJUSTABLE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS WAS RECALLED FOR SPACING ISSUE. TOLD ON RECALL NO ADJUSTMENT NEEDED. HAD BAD CRASH. AFTER CRASH TOLD TWO MORE TIMES ADJUSTMENT NOT NEEDED. THIS CAR HAS A BRAKE PEDAL THAT WOBBLES SIDE TO SIDE 7 MM AND A GAS PEDAL THAT WOBBLES SIDE TO SIDE 1 CM. ODI IN WASHINGTON TOLD ME THAT AS BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL UNIT IS BROUGHT FORWARD THE 3 INCH DISTANCE FOR A SHORTER PERSON THE SIDE TO SIDE WOBBLE OF BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES WORSE CAUSING YOU TO HIT THE GAS. THEY ALSO SAID ADJUSTMENT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE ON THIS CAR. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM AND TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY, VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
NHTSA#01-V-078-000 VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. IF THE GREASE FROM THE ADJUSTABLE PEDAL ASSEMBLY ENTERS THE STOP LAMP SWITCH, IT CAN CONTAMINATE THE CONTACTS LEADING TO CARBON BUILD UP, AND POTENTIALLY A SHORT CIRCUIT. THE RECALL FAILED AND THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WAS REPLACED 6 TIMES. *AK *TS *JB
WHILE DRIVING, ANOTHER MOTORIST INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE VEHICLE STAYED ON ALL THE TIME AND OTHER MOTORISTS WERE UNABLE TO TELL WHEN THE CONSUMER WAS ACTUALLY BRAKING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. *AK EXAMINATION OF THE SWITCH SHOWED A SMALL PLASTIC NUB WHICH HELD CONTACTS OPEN WORE DOWN AND ALLOWED CONTACTS TO STAY CLOSED ALL THE TIME. *PH *JB
VEHICLE'S BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED. *TT
NHTSA RECALL REPAIR OF THE ADJUSTABLE PEDALS FAILED. NHTSA RECALL # 01-V-078-000. *NLM
THE VEHICLES BRAKE LIGHT STAYED ON BECAUSE OF A FAULTY BRAKE SWITCH. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED. *NLM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ON AND/OR CAME ON BY THEMSELVES AFTER THE ENGINE WAS CUT OFF. DEFECTIVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED. CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DEACTIVATE AT 76 MPH. *TT *JB
THE VEHICLES GEAR SHIFT SELECTOR COULD NOT BE PLACED IN THE PARK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED A COMPONENT BUT THE PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE T-BONE THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WHICH FORCED THE VEHICLE INTO A GUARD RAIL. THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *NLM
THE BACK BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING AGAIN. (4TH TIME) ALSO, THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE OUT OF PARK AFTER YOU START THE CAR. I KNOW THESE TWO PROBLEMS ARE RELATED TO THE BRAKE SWITCH. THIS ITEM HAS BEEN (REPLACED) TWO OTHER TIMES. I AM PUTTING THE POWERS THAT BE ON NOTICE THAT IF I AM IN A CRASH BECAUSE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE, I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR IT. ALSO, THERE IS SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT WILL KEEP THE CAR FOR STARTING. *JB
SINCE PURCHASING VEHICLE IN 05-01, THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT HAS LIT UP ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ALSO, THE CAR EMITS AN ODOR WHICH I HAVE READ TO BE A COMPLAINT OF MANY SABLE OWNERS. ITS WORTH LOOKING IN TO BECAUSE OF THE MANY COMPLAINTS. *JB
THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. *NLM THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS REPLACED 4 TIMES WHICH ONE OUT OF THE 4 REPAIRS WAS RECALL RELATED. ALSO THE ABS LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. ONCE THE SWITCH FAILED THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT COME OUT OF PARK POSITION. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE SUN ROOF WAS INOPERATIVE. *TT
NAR 05/21/2003. *MR RIGHT FRONT SPRING WERE BROKEN CUTTING INTO THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE CAUSING A FLAT. *CB
THE FRONT SPRING BROKE. THE DEALER STATED PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE, DUE TO A NATION WIDE BACK ORDER. *JB
THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS DID NOT FUNCTION WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. *JB. REPLACED WIRE LINE THAT CONNECTED BRAKE CONTROL SWITCH AT PEDAL. *AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON THE SWITCH BUTTON CAME OFF. *NLM BOTH REAR WINDOWS HAD BECOME INOPERATIVE. SCC
THE TRANSMISSION BLEW WHILE DRIVING. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PH
ON THE MORNING OF 12/19/02, I ENTERED MY VEHICLE AND STARTED IT UP. AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR I OBSERVED IN THE OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR THAT IT APPEARED MY GARAGE DOOR WAS NOT FULLU OPENED. I THEN OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND EXITED IT WITHOUT CLOSING IT. WITH MY BACK TO THE VEHICLE I VERIFIED THAT THE GARAGE DOOR WAS FULLY OPENED. BEFORE I COULD TURN AROUND THE VEHICLE HAD PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE WITH THE CAR DOOR OPENED. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RE-ENTER THE VEHICLE WITH THE HOPES OF STOPPING IT AS THE DOOR MADE CONTACT WITH SOME PLASTIC CONTAINERS. THE CONTAINERS DID CREATE A VOID FOR ME AS ONCE THE CONTAINERS GAVE WAY UNDER THE FORCE OF THE DOOR I WAS THEN THROWN CLEAR OF THE OPENED CAR DOOR AND THE GARAGE DOOR DOOR JAM. AFTER I WAS ABLE TO PICK MYSELF UP FROM THE FLOOR I WAS ABLE TO RUN AND STOP THE CAR WHEN IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 30 FEET DOWN THE DRIVEWAY.
CAR STALLED ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. IT'S BEEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY REPLACED SOME IGNITION COILS SECOND TIME, HOWEVER CAR STALLED YET AGAIN. TWICE CAR WAS STARTING FROM A STOP IN TRAFFIC, TWICE COMING TO A STOP AND GETTING READY TO TURN RIGHT. DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN TURNING AS CAR COASTED INTO LANE WHEN I NEEDED TO BE ACCELERATING. DT
AFTER DEALERSHIP MEASURED THE SPACING BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL SAD IT WAS FINE, BUT CONSUMER HAS SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENT DUE TO THE SPACING OF THE TWO PEDALS. TS

DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE RECALL FOR THE BRAKE/ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER CONSUMER HAS ALMOST HAD 2 ACCIDENT DUE TO THE DEFECT STATED IN THE RECALL. DEALERSHIP IS INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE MEETS SPECIFICATION. TS
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN TRYING TO APPLY THE BRAKES THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED TS
CONSUMER STATED THAT ON 11/3/02 WAS DRIVING APPROACHING A STOPPED TRAFFIC AND DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL. VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD AND CONSUMER PULLED OFF ROAD TO AVOID A COLLISION. VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY DEALER WHO AT FIRST ADVISED COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE. DEALER THEN STATED DISCOVERED PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION SENSOR THAT WAS SIGNALING CAR TO FIVE MORE GAS. DELAER REPAIRED AND RETURNED VEHICLE TO CONSUMER. CONSUMER DROVE VEHICLE FREQUENTLY WITHIN NEXT WEEK TO MAKE SURE PROBLEM WOULD NOT REOCCUR. ON 11/10/02 WHILE DRIVING ENGINE SURGE OCCURED AGAIN. DEALER STATED NO PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE. TS

WHILE DRIVING 35MPH OR MORE THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AIR BAG DEPLOYED INADVERTENTLY. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS
RECALL 02S40 DID NOT ADDRESS MY PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS INSPECTED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND RELEASED THE VEHICLE AS BEING "OK". MY PROBLEM IS EXCESSIVE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL (MORE THAN 2.5 INCHES WHEN DEPRESSED). WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLLIED THE PEDAL LEVEL IS MORE THAN 1/2 INCH BEYOND THE GAS PEDAL LEVEL. THE PROBLEM IS NOT A MATTER OF THE TWO PEDALS. IT IS A SITUATION OF TOO MUCH BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL. A SHORTER STROKE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. DT
