SIDE VIEW MIRRORS I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN, AVERAGE HEIGHT 5'3". I HAVE CONTACTED MITSUBISHI MOTORS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS ON MY CAR, TO WHICH THEY RESPONDED 'THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS MEET U.S. SAFETY STANDARDS'. I HAVE BEEN TERRIBLY CONCERNED ABOUT MY MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER'S OVERSIZED SIDE VIEW MIRRORS, BOTH ON THE DRIVER AS WELL AS PASSENGER SIDES. THEY ARE NOT ONLY AWKWARDLY PLACED, HEIGHTWISE, BUT ARE ALSO HINGED IN A WAY THAT CREATES HUGE BLIND SPOTS ON BOTH SIDES. THEY OBSCURE MY VISION, CREATING BLIND SPOTS WHEN CHANGING LANES, WHEN MAKING TURNS, AT PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS. I HAVE TO STOP FOR SEVERAL MINUTES TO CLEAR BOTH SIDES, IN ADDITION, I HAVE TO RAISE MYSELF IN MY SEAT TO CLEAR THE HEIGHT OF THE MIRRORS. I HAVE HAD INNUMERABLE 'NEAR MISSES' BECAUSE THEY BLOCK MY VIEW OF APPROACHING CARS TO MY RIGHT/LEFT. THE REASON I FINALLY AM WRITING TO YOU IS BECAUSE I ALMOST HIT A PEDESTRIAN A FEW WEEKS AGO, DUE TO THE MIRROR BLOCKING MY VISION OF THE INDIVIDUAL CROSSING. IN ADDITION, THEY HAVE BEEN KNOCKED OFF BECAUSE THEY EXTEND SO FAR FROM THE MAINFRAME OF THE CAR, CAUSING ME HUGE REPAIR COSTS. I REQUEST YOU ADVISE ME HOW TO GET MITSUBISHI'S ATTENTION TO REMEDY THIS HUGE PROBLEM, AND HOW I CAN PURSUE THIS MATTER SO THAT THIS DESIGN FLAW IS RECTIFIED. I HAVE CONTACTED CONSUMER REPORTS AND THEY PROVIDED ME NAMES OF SEVERAL AGENCIES THAT I AM CONTACTING AS WELL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. ON MAY 12, 2009, THE CONTACT WENT TO HAVE A RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. IT WAS UNKNOWN AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT ILLUMINATING AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
THE REAR GLASS ON OUR 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER SHATTERED. IT WAS ABOUT 30 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND WE TURNED ON THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER, AND LET THE CAR WARM UP FOR A FEW MINUTES, THEN STARTED DRIVING, AND TURNED ON THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER. THE GLASS SHATTERED AND FELL INTO THE CAR. *TR
ALL POWER OUTLETS IN THE CAR ARE INOPERABLE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALER 5-6 TIMES TO HAVE THEM ALL RESET. I AM TOLD IT IS FROM USING A PHONE CHARGER (AND I HAVE EVEN TRIED NEW/DIFFERENT PHONE CHARGERS AFTER EACH INCIDENT). ON THE LAST VISIT, I WAS TOLD THIS IS BECOMING A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THE EASIEST FIX IS NOT TO USE A PHONE CHARGER, AND TO USE IT ONLY AS A CIGARETTE LIGHTER. I'VE NEVER HEARD OF A CAR BEING UNABLE TO HANDLE A PHONE CHARGER. TAKING IT IN TO THE DEALER OVER AND OVER IS BECOMING INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. *TR
AIRBAG COVER STARTING TO CRACK WHERE THE AIRBAG IS LOCATED(RIGHT AROUND THE MITSUBISHI LOGO ). CURRENTLY TRYING TO GET SOMEONE AT THE MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP TO CALL ME BACK. *TR
ENTIRE DASHBOARD CLUSTER FAILED: SPEEDOMETER, TACH, ODOMETER, FUEL GAUGE, COMPUTER. CAR STILL RAN, BUT THERE WAS NO WAY TO DETERMINE SPEED OR GAS REMAINING. DEALER HAD TO REPLACE ENTIRE DASHBOARD. *TR
MITSUBISHI 2007 OUTLANDER LS SUV ANTI-SKID ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM FAIL ON 440N HWY IN NJ AND MY SUV COLLIDED IN TO OTHER CAR AND IT WAS NOT BIG DAMAGE BUT OUTLANDER BURST IN TO FLAMES AND CAUGHT FIRE WITHIN ONE MINUTE I WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OTHERWISE I WILL BE A DEAD MAN NEED TO PUSH MITSUBISHI TO START INVESTIGATION ON SUV FAILURE. *TR
MY MITSIBISHI SUV OUTLANDER LS 2007 HAD FAILED TO STOP ABOUT BETWEEN 20-30 FT. FROM THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. WHEN I TRIED TO STOP IN A SUDDEN MOVE, THE ANTI-SKID AND ANTI-LOCK PLUS ABS SYSTEM FAILED. I HIT THE OTHER VEHICLES REAR BUMPER AND MY SUV BUMPER GOT HIT AND WITHIN FEW SECONDS THE WHOLE SUV CAUGHT IN FIRE AND BURNT. I WAS NOT ABLE TO COLLECT MY ITEMS FROM THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR. THERE'S AN ISSUE WITH AN ENGINE DESIGN ALSO. I NEED NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE AND PUSH MITSIBISHI TO INVESTIGATE TO SAVE OTHER PEOPLE'S LIFE AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
DIGITAL DASH BOARD FAILED. NO SPEED, TACHOMETER, MILEAGE LOG AVAILABLE. MAY CAUSE ACCIDENTAL OVER SPEEDING AND DANGERS IN SOME CONDITIONAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE IN TIME. AS A RESULT, HE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN HIM AND HE STRUCK THE STEERING WHEEL AND SUN VISOR. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO HIS RESIDENCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 2,300.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE IS UNABLE TO SEE THE CLOCK AND THE RADIO DURING THE DAYTIME. HE STATED THAT HE IS VISIBLE DURING THE NIGHTTIME. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. AS OF APRIL 24, 2008, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOWER PORTION OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD BECAME FRACTURED AND EXPANDED TO THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE THE DATE OF PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
RADIO VOLUME KEEPS GOING DOWN AND UP. MITSUBISHI SAYS IT KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 OUTLANDER. THEY HAVEN'T CORRECTED THE PROBLEM AS OF YET. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE RELEASE OF THIS VEHICLE. MITSUBITSHI HAS MANY BLOGS ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS AND INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS DIMMED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1,570.
ON JUNE 21,2007 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE FRONT OF 2007 MITSIBUSHI OUTLNDER WAS CRUSHED IN. THE CAR WAS 4 MONTHS OLD. THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN TOTALED DUE TO ABOUT $13,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT I WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE BODY SHOP STATED THAT THEY SHOULD HAVE AND THAT THE CROSSBEAM THAT HOLDS THE AIRBAG SENSOR WAS WHAT BUSTED THE RADIATOR AS WELL AS THE BLOCK. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AS WELL AS MY UNBORN CHILD. *TR
FRONT SUSPENSION HAS A CLUNK EVERYTIME YOU TURN AND START FROM CERO. RADIO, BACKLIGHT IS TO LOW AND IS IMPOSSIBLE TO READ IT WITH SUNLIGHT IN COLD WEATHER THE VENTS FOR THE A/C CYCLES EVERY 15 SECONDS AND HEADLIGHT, INTERIOR LIGHT DIM EVERY TIME. PEOPLE THINK YOU ARE CHANGING LIGHTS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT BECAUSE OF THIS CYCLING OF VENTS GOING ON WITH THE A/C ON. THE SYSTEM IS NOT NORMAL WORKING. EVERY OUTLANDER HAS THE SAME ISSUE. IS KIND OF ANNOYING TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH THE LIGHT DIMMING EVERY 15 TO 30 SECONDS. *TR
DASH DISPLAY (CLOCK, RADIO/CD INFORMATION) IS UNREADABLE DURING DAYTIME DRIVING, ESPECIALLY MID-DAY SUNLIGHT. THIS IS DISTRACTING. MY CAR IS UPGRADED WITH THE SOUND PACKAGE, WHICH INCLUDES SIRIUS RADIO AND 6CD CHANGER. WHAT GOOD IS THIS IF YOU CAN'T READ STATION. I'VE HAD TO MEMORIZE THE NUMBER OF TIMES TO PUSH STATION BUTTON. *TR
HEADLIGHTS, DIM WHEN AIR CONDITIONING CYCLES ON. ALSO BLOWER MOTOR AND ALL OTHER LIGHTS DIM OR SLOW. *JB
MY INTERIOR LIGHTS DON'T GO OFF WHEN I CLOSE THE DOORS. THE DEALER THOUGHT BY REPLACING THE DRIVER'S SIDE SWITCH IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT. SO, I HAVE TO LEAVE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS OFF. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED, BUT WOULD SHUT OFF AGAIN EACH TIME THE BRAKE WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 4,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,100. THE CONSUMERS WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT WHEN SHE DID THE VEHICLE STOPPED ABRUPTLY AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AT THE SAME TIME. WHEN SHE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, IT HOPPED RATHER THAN ROLLING SMOOTHLY AND THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AGAIN WITHOUT THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE THE FIRST TWO TIMES, THEN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED FOR THE THIRD TIME, THEY LOCKED UP AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AGAIN. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT PROBLEM MAYBE AN ABS ECU MALFUNCTION POSSIBLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ESC. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION OR BEARING. UPDATED 06/08/07. *JB
DIRECT SUNLIGHT IS COMING THROUGH THE FRONT WINDSHIELD OF MY 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER ES, YOU CAN'T READ THE DIGITAL RADIO DISPLAY OR CLOCK. THIS CAUSES A DRIVING DISTRACTION BECAUSE IT CAUSES THE DRIVER TO LOOK AT THE DIGITAL RADIO DISPLAY FOR A MUCH MUCH LONGER THAN NORMAL PERIOD TO FIGURE OUT WHICH RADIO STATION THAT IS ON OR TO READ THE CLOCK. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE, IT CAN ALSO BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE DRIVER SPENDS CONSIDERABLY MORE TIME FOCUSING ON THE DIGITAL DISPLAY BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO READ RATHER THAN ON THE ROAD DURING DIRECT SUNLIGHT PERIODS. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS DIGITAL RADIO DISPLAY PROBLEM CAN CONTRIBUTE TO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT IS DISTRACTING THE DRIVER FROM FOCUSING ON DRIVING CONDITIONS AND TURNS THE DRIVER'S FOCUS TO THE RADIO BECAUSE THE DIGITAL DISPLAY IS DIFFICULT TO READ DURING DIRECT SUNLIGHT PERIODS. MITSUBISHI MOTORS WAS CONTACTED AND THEY AGREED THAT THIS CAN BE A PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THEY DON'T HAVE A "FIX" FOR IT NOW. THEY TOLD ME THAT IN THE EVENT THEY COME UP WITH A "FIX", THEY WILL CONTACT ME. *JB

PICKED UP BRAND NEW 2007 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER ON 2/27/07. WITHIN TWO DAYS NOTICED A LARGE BANGING STRUCTURAL NOISE WHEN MAKING SHARP LEFT HAND TURNS OUT OF PARKING SPACES, ETC. NOTIFIED DEALER. DEALER SAID A PROBLEM WITH BEARINGS AND WAITING FOR PARTS FROM JAPAN. ALSO NOTICED THAT SOMETHING SEEMS TO BE HITTING BRAKE PEDAL AS WELL WHEN MAKING THESE SAME SORT OF TURNS. *JB

WHEN THE TEMPERATURE WAS 19 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT AND BELOW THE LOW TIRE AIR PRESSURE SENSOR TURNED ON, CAUSING THE WARNING SIGNALS TO TURN ON EVERY TIME THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO FRED BEANS FORD LINCOLN MERCURY MITSUBISHI OF DOYLESTOWN, PA 18901, AND THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR FAILURE WAS NORMAL AND CAUSED BY COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS.
