Rusted suspension crossbody unsafe to drive. The brakes and calibers seem to always seize as well making this vehicle a death trap no matter how many times I get it fixed.
The contact owns a 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, she heard an abnormal coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence. The contact took the vehicle to independent mechanic and was informed that the rear driver’s side sub-frame cross member was corroded. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
MITSUBISHI HAS A LIMITED RECALL FOR RUSTED CROSSMEMBERS ON 2008+ OUTLANDER SPORTS FROM CERTAIN STATES THAT USED SALT TO TREAT SNOW. MY DAUGHTER'S 2008 OUTLANDER HAS ALWAYS BEEN REGISTERED IN SATELLITE BEACH, FL, A VERY SALTY ATMOSPHERE. THE FRONT WHEELS WOBBLE ON ACCELERATION AND RAPID DECELERATION BECAUSE THE CROSSMEMBER IS SEVERELY RUSTED - CAUSED BY THE BEACHSIDE SALTY LOCATION. IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE AS THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS MAY BREAK LOOSE AT ANY TIME. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NO. 20V280000 SHOULD INCLUDE SALTY, BEACHSIDE LOCATIONS LIKE SATELLITE BEACH. IT IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY ISSUE VERY SIMILAR TO WHAT NHTSA ALREADY ACTED ON.
THE CAR IS A MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER E.S 2008 WITH 42000 MILES ON IT ,AND THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT SHIFTING. I CONTACTED MITSUBISHI MOTORS BUT SINCE 10 YEARS PASSED NOTHING COULD BE DONE.I HAD BEEN SURFING INTERNET AND THERE ARE TOO MANY ISSUES RELATED TO THIS TYPE VEHICLES.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TIRE LOSS HALF OF THE AIR PRESSURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE NO FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TIRES EXAMINED AT THE LOCAL DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM MITSUBISHI RELATED TO A CROSS MEMBER OF THE FRAME. THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY DISCOVERED A CORROSION ISSUE WHICH I HAD THEY SERVICE GARAGE FIX AND I PAID FOR THE REPAIR. MITSUBISHI IS DENYING THE CLAIM BECAUSE THEY SAY THAT THERE WAS NO DEFLECTION OF THE CROSS MEMBER. THERE WAS NO DEFLECTION OF THE CROSS MEMBER BECAUSE I HAD IT REPAIRED BEFORE MITSUBISHI'S RECALL NOTICE. I WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR $358.51 THE COST OF THE REPAIR PER THE RECALL NOTICE. THE REPAIR NOTICE IS AND THE REPAIR INVOICE ARE ATTACHED.
WHILE HAVING EXHAUST WORK DONE ON MY 2008 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER IN MARCH OF 2020, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER IS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. THIS VEHICLE HAS THE 2.4L 4-CYLINDER ENGINE. THERE WAS APPARENTLY A RECALL INVOLVING V6 OUTLANDERS FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT NONE FOR THE 4-CYLINDER MODEL FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE BRAKING, THE DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LIGHT IS ONLY WORKING WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT TURNED ON. I READ UP ON MITSUBISHI RECALLING BRAKE LIGHTS ON OUTLANDERS AND WHEN I LOOK UP MY VIN FOR A RECALL THERE IS NOT ONE ON THERE FOR THAT. THIS IS AN EXTREME ISSUE. LAST YEAR WE HAD IT LOOKED AT, THE WHOLE LIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED, THE FUSE REPLACED AND YET NOTHING WORKED.

AND THEN I DROVE THE CAR TO OUR HOUSE WITH OUT THE BELT.
NOTICED THAT THE CROSSMEMBER HAS ROTTED AWAY AT THE WELD AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. ALL OTHER COMPONENTS ARE OK. THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2008 V6 MODELS FOR THE CORROSION, BUT NOT FOR 2008 4 CYL?? IT USES THE SAME DEFECTIVE PARTS BACK IN 2008.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. THERE'S A RECALL ON THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER/SUB-FRAME,WHICH IS IN GOOD CONDITION,BUT NOT THE BACK ONE. WHICH MINE JUST ACTUALLY RIPPED! IT STARTED DRIVING ODD,LIKE THE BACK END DOESN'T STAY BEHIND IT. WOULD KIND OF SHUDDER AT TAKEOFF, AND SOUNDS AWFUL! ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR, WHERE THE LATERAL CONTROL ARM ATTACHES TO IT,THE ACTUAL SUB FRAME/CROSS MEMBER IS TORN! IT IS WAY TO NEW TO HAVE THE SUB-FRAME ROTTED SO BAD THAT IT JUST RIPS.OBVIOUSLY MITSUBISHI FORGOT TO TREAT THAT CROSS-MEMBER AS WELL! OR JUST GOT THE TWO BACKWARDS IN THE RECALL? THIS IS THE 2008 OUTLANDER V6,4WD,XLS. ALSO,NOT A SAFETY ISSUE,BUT STILL NOT NORMAL FOR THE AGE, ALL MY PAINT ON THE FRONT BUMPER IS JUST FALLING OFF.IN CHUNKY FLAKES?
LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS HAVE BEEN GOING COMPLETELY OUT. THIS HAPPENED WHEN IN MOTION ON A HIGHWAY . IT IS DIFFICULT TO NAVIGATE AND BE SEEN WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO A MITSUBISHI DEALER FOR REPAIR BUT THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED 4 TIMES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD A RELAY WAS BURNT OUT THREE TIMES AND HAD BEEN REPLACED. ANOTHER TIME I WAS TOLD THERE WAS AN INTERNAL SHORT. USUALLY THE REPAIR ONLY LASTS 3-4 WEEKS AND THEN THE LIGHTS GO OUT AGAIN. THIS LAST TIME WAS ONLY 2.5 WEEKS SINCE IT WAS LAST REPAIRED. THIS HAS BEEN INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING AND NOT TO MENTION DANGEROUS. THIS HAS OCCURRED 8/29/18, 8/10/18, 7/11/18, 6/~13/18.

PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE VEHICLE WAS THOROUGHLY INSPECTED AT MISSION MITSUBISHI (9800 SAN PEDRO AVE, SAN ANTONIO, TX 78216, (210) 342-2886) WHERE THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BALL JOINTS WOULD SOON NEED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST WITH THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY LOOKING INTO THE MATTER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
WENT TO A MECHANIC AND HE FOUND EXTENSIVE CORROSION IN THE CROSSMEMBER OF THE VECHILE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE INTERSTATE AND MY SERPENTINE BELT POPPED OFF THE TENSIONER WHICH CAUSED ME TO LOSE MY POWER STEERING AND THEN RESULTED IN MY RADIATOR BLOWING ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE
TOOK CAR IN FOR SAFETY RECALL FOUND OUT THAT MY ENGINE CROSS MEMBER HAS BEEN RUSTING THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT WAS NOT NOTIFIED DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD BE 970.00 TO REPLACE THIS IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY IT'S MITSUBISHI S SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED BEFORE THE RUST AND SEALED COATED PLEASE GET BACK ON THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE LEAD TO MY STEERING FAILURE AND POSSIBLY A FATALITY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY

BRAKE SWITCH RECALL - WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK, TURNED ON, AND THE BRAKE IS PRESSED TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO ANY OTHER POSITION, THE SHIFTER REMAINS LOCKED IN THE PARK POSITION.
THE CRUISE CONTROL AND ALL THE AUDIO CONTROLS NO LONGER WORKS IN MY CAR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN DECEMBER OF 2016, THAT INDICATED THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS YET TO MAKE THE REPAIR BUT WOULD SEND A SECOND NOTICE WHEN THEY WERE RECEIVED. I CALLED TODAY7/7/17 SEVEN MONTHS AFTER GETTING THE NOTICE AND WAS TOLD THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO MREPAIR THE PROBLEM?
I RECEIVED AN INTERIM "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL" LETTER IN DECEMBER 2016 REGARDING THE WIPER LINK BALL JOINT , POTENTIAL CORROSION AND SEPARATION CAUSING WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO STOP OPERATING. THE LETTER INDICATED THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR AND THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED WHEN THE REMEDY PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER, IN EARLY JUNE, I RECEIVED A BRIGHT ORANGE "URGENT RECALL REPAIRS" POSTCARD FROM MY DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, MICHAUD MITSIBUSHI IN DANVERS, MA, AND REQUESTED AN APPOINTMENT FOR RECALL REPAIRS TO THE WIPER SYSTEM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, AND THAT THE POSTCARD WAS SIMPLE A "PRE-NOTIFICATION". THEY HAD NO IDEA WHEN PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. IN THE MEAN TIME, I'M DRIVING A VEHICLE WHOSE WIPERS COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME.

WE HAVE A 2008 MITSUBISHI OUTLANDER THAT WE PURCHASED IN 2010. I WAS FOLLOWING MY WIFE DOWN THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES THE BRAKE LIGHTS SOMETIMES DID NOT COME ON. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. WHEN WE GOT HOME I TESTED IT AND FOUND THAT ABOUT 20% OF THE TIME NO BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE TO SEE HOW DIFFICULT IT WOULD BE TO FIX AND DISCOVERED THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH IT. WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE 2010 AND HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. I CALLED OUR LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALER TO FIND OUT IF THIS WAS PART OF A RECALL. THEY SAID THE RECALL HAD BEEN PERFORMED ON OUR CAR IN 2009 AND IF IT NEEDED REPLACEMENT AGAIN IT WOULD BE AT OUR EXPENSE SINCE IT HAD BEEN MORE THAN A YEAR SINCE THE WORK WAS DONE. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME. THE CAR WAS RECALLED WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY TO HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART REPLACED. NOW THE PART HAS PROVEN TO BE DEFECTIVE AGAIN. I TRIED CALLING MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER RELATIONS 888-648-7820 AND THEIR AUTOMATED SYSTEM DOESN'T ALLOW NOR CAN I EVER SPEAK TO A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. I HAVE ALSO TRIED TO CONTACT NHTSA AT 1-888-327-4236 AND AGAIN HAVE NO WAY OF SPEAKING WITH A REPRESENTATIVE. WHILE PARKED AND TURNED OFF(FOR 15 MINUTES), THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT(HEATED SEAT) CAUGHT FIRE. THE FIRE WAS DISCOVERED QUICKLY AND EXTINGUISHED BEFORE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TOOK PLACE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH MITSUBISHI WHO DIRECTED ME TO THE LOCAL MITSUBISHI DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON, IT WILL GET STUCK IN PARK AND IS A STRUGGLE TO SWITCH THE GEARS FROM PARK TO DRIVE. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM. *TR
JULY 3, AT APPROXIMATELY 10:30 PM WE CAME HOME AND PARKED THE CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY WHICH IS AT A SLIGHT INCLINE. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO UNLOAD ITEMS FROM THE BACK, AND AS I CAME AROUND ON THE PASSENGER SIDE THE CAR MADE A LOUD POP SOUND AND THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS AND WAS MAKING AN AUDIBLE CLICKING NOISE. IN AN INSTANT I WAS WORRIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO RUN OVER ONE OF MY KIDS WHO WERE OUTSIDE AS I UNLOADED THE VEHICLE SO I MANAGED TO CLIMB IN AND AS I REACHED OVER TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION, THE CAR BUMPED OVER WHERE THE DRIVEWAY AND STREET MEET KNOCKING ME OFF BALANCE. AS I FELL FROM THE CAR, MY RIGHT LEG GOT JAMMED IN THE PASSENGER DOOR, MY HEAD WHACKED THE BOTTOM FRAME OF THE DOOR, AND RIGHT BEFORE THE CAR ROLLED TO A STOP, THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE STARTED TO RUN OVER MY LEFT LEG AS I TRIED TO KEEP THE LEG OUT OF THE PATH OF THE WHEEL. I SUSTAINED MULTIPLE INJURIES INCLUDING A HEAD INJURY, CONCUSSION, SPRAINED KNEE, CUTS AND BRUISES. *TR
THIS VEHICLE WAS RECALLED IN 2009 FOR A FAILURE OF THE SWITCH WHICH ACTIVATES THE BRAKE LAMPS. MITSUBISHI RECORDS INDICATE THAT WE HAD THE SWITCH REPLACED IN MARCH, 2009, ALONG WITH ANOTHER RECALL ITEM. HOWEVER, THROUGHOUT THE FIRST HALF OF 2011, MY WIFE AND I HAD PROBLEMS GETTING THE CAR TO COME OUT OF 'PARK', AND WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL COMPUTER INDICATING MALFUNCTIONS. ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THOSE ISSUES INVESTIGATED, I FOLLOWED THE VEHICLE, AND NOTICED THAT MOST OF THE TIME, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT ACTIVATE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE DEALERSHIP DISCOVERED THAT ALL THREE PROBLEMS WERE CAUSED BY MALFUNCTIONS OF THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH, AND REPLACED IT. TO OUR KNOWLEDGE, IT HAS WORKED CORRECTLY SINCE THEN. HOWEVER, I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THE FAILURE OF THE SWITCH. AFTER ALL, THAT'S A FUNDAMENTAL PART OF A MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEM, AND RECALL SERVICE HAD BEEN PERFORMED WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT THAT VERY SAME PREMATURE FAILURE. IT IS MY OPINION THAT AN IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENT SUCH AS THE BRAKE LAMP SYSTEM SHOULD NOT SUFFER A FAILURE AFTER 3.5 YEARS OF SERVICE AND 60,000 MILES. I'M DOUBLY CONFIDENT THAT FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED AFTER THE SCRUTINY YOUR ORGANIZATION HAS ALREADY APPLIED TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
MITSUBISHI IS FULLY AWARE OF PROBLEMS WITH ELECTRONIC KEYS IN NEW MODELS AND WOULD NOT REPLACE THE KEYS. PROBLEMS REPORTED BY MITSUBISHI IN "TECHNICAL BULLETINS" TO DEALERS ARE NOT TREATED AS EQUIPMENT RECALLS, EVEN THOUGH KNOWN EQUIPMENT DEFECTS ARE REPORTED. FOR NO APPARENT REASON THE ELECTRONIC KEY TO MY OUTLANDER WOULD NOT START THE ENGINE. THE ELECTRONIC KEY IDENTIFIED AS MISTSUBISHI'S F.A.S.T KEY WOULD NOT WORK AND IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE DEFECT CAN OCCUR WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER, IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT MITSUBISHI ISSUES "TECHNICAL BULLETINS" TO NOTIFY DEALERS OF EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONS THAT ARE NOT CONSIDERED RECALLS BUT REPORTED DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT PARTS THAT SHOULD BE REPLACED ONLY IF THE CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT MITSUBISHI WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC KEYS FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS BUT WOULD NOT RECALL THEM AND WOULD ONLY REPLACE THEM AFTER PROBLEMS WERE REPORTED. I WAS TOLD THAT THE KEY COSTS ABOUT $500 DOLLARS INCLUDING PROGRAMMING. I CONSIDER THAT MITSUBISHI COULD NOT CONFIRM IF THE ENGINE WOULD STOP DURING USE AND THEREFORE ALL ELECTRONIC KEYS SHOULD BE REPLACED AS THEY ALREADY KNOW OF THE DEFECT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE KEY AT NO COST ONLY BECAUSE THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN REPORTING THE DEFECT WAS ISSUED, BUT REFUSE TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THE ACTUAL TECHNICAL BULLETIN.
