I BOUGHT THIS 2000 NISSAN ALTIMA NEW. SINCE APPROXIMATELY DECEMBER OF '03 THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS REPEATEDLY (TOO MANY TIMES TO KEEP TRACK OF) MALFUNCTIONED AT ARBITRARY TIMES GIVING EITHER NO INFO (GAUGES ALL GO TO 0) OR INCORRECT INFO (130 MPH AT 1K RPM W/NO WATER TEMP AND SUDDENLY FULL TANK OF GAS). PROBLEM CAN LAST ANY WHERE FROM MINUTES TO 24 HOURS+. THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO MALFUNCTIONS WHENEVER THIS OCCURS. FIRST TOOK TO DEALER ON 12/31/03, THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE PROBLEM, TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK WHILE MALFUNCTIONING. FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR WHILE MALFUNCTIONING TO SAME DEALERSHIP ON 8/1/05. PROBLEM HAS STARTED TO INCREASE IN FREQUENCY AND DURATION. THE SECOND THEY HOOKED DIAGNOSTIC EQUIP TO IT THE CLUSTER CORRECTED. THEY KEPT FOR 2 DAYS, DID NOT MALFUNCTION AGAIN SO THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE 100%. THEY WANT TO TRY REPLACING THE SPEEDOMETER HEAD AT $320, BUT 1) CAN'T GUARANTEE IT WILL SOLVE PROBLEM AND 2) CAN'T GET PART. THEY ESTIMATE 6-8 WKS MINIMUM TO GET PART. WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE DEALERSHIP CLUSTER MALFUNCTIONED SHOWING NO INFORMATION, BUT NO TECHNICIAN WAS AVAILABLE TO DIAGNOSE. SHOWED ZERO ON ALL GAUGES EXCEPT GAS WHICH ARBITRARILY READ 3/4 TANK FOR ENTIRE 20-25 MILE TRIP HOME. THIS CAR IS AN ACCIDENT, OR WORSE, WAITING TO HAPPEN. *NM
I HAVE EXPERIENCED 2 DANGEROUS INCIDENTS OF SUDDEN UNANTICIPATED ACCELERATION WITH MY 2000 NISSAN ALTIMA SE [XXX]. THE FIRST, WITNESSED BY MY HUSBAND & SON, OCCURRED ON DECEMBER 26, 2003. APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, I SLOWED TO A STOP WITH MY FOOT SQUARELY ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY RACED ALARMINGLY AND THE CAR TRIED TO LURCH THROUGH THE LIGHT. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE RACING INCREASED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE HEAD MECHANIC AT OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAD NO IDEAS. AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGMENT, I TOOK THE CAR BACK. THE NEXT WEEKEND, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I PULLED BACKWARDS OUT OF A PARKING SPOT, PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY TOOK OFF. THE RPMS REGISTERED WITHIN SECONDS UP TO 6500 RPMS. PUT IN NEUTRAL, THE RPMS INCREASED TO 7000 RPMS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I TOLD OUR LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT I WOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AND FIXED. ON THE NISSAN HOTLINE (1-800-NISSAN-1), THE CUSTOMER RELATIONS REPRESENTATIVES TOLD ME: (1) THEIR TECHNICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THIS PROBLEM (NISSAN LATER SAID THAT, ALTHOUGH THEY HAD RECEIVED CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS, THEY HAD NEVER BEEN ABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN A SHOP); AND (2) IF THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE "REPLICATED" IN SHOP, THEN, IN EFFECT, "THERE WAS NO PROBLEM" AND NO REMEDY. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND THAT S.U.A. IS A MAJOR PROBLEM NATIONALLY. I COULD NOT DRIVE THIS CAR, COULD NOT ALLOW A FAMILY MEMBER TO DRIVE THIS CAR, AND COULD NOT SELL THE CAR. AFTER ALMOST SIX WEEKS WITHOUT MY CAR, I TRADED IT BACK TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AT CONSIDERABLE LOSS WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY WOULD CONTINUE TO TRY TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT RE-SELL THE VEHICLE TO AN UNINFORMED CONSUMER. I HAVE 35 YEARS OF SOLID DRIVING EXPERIENCE. THERE IS NO POSSIBILITY OF DRIVER ERROR HERE. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER DRIVER'S SIDE NOR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED BRUISES. *AK THE BUMPER HAD FALLEN OFF THE VEHICLE, DESTROYED THE RADIATOR AND THE BATTERY WAS PUSHED INTO THE ENGINE AREA. *SC
OUR 2000 NISSAN ALTIMA GXE 4 DR SEDAN COMES EQUIPPED WITH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS. THEY FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THIS PAST FRIDAY. ALTHOUGH WE WERE NOT SERIOUSLY HURT THE PARAMEDICS, POLICE OFFICERS AND FIRE FIGHTERS FOUND IT AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE THAT A LATE MODEL CAR'S AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY AT THIS ACCIDENT. A DRUNK DRIVER HIT THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR. I WAS TRAVELLING AT 40 MILES PER HOUR THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WHEN HE TRIED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. HE HIT ME IN THE PROCESS AND THE IMPACT WAS SUCH THAT WE HAD TO TAKE MY WIFE TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM TO MAKE SURE SHE DIDN'T HAVE ANY INTERNAL INJURIES. I AM JUST DISAPPOINTED THAT THE AIR BAGS, THAT ARE INTENDED FOR THESE TYPES OF ACCIDETNS, DID NOT DEPLOY. IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THEN IT IS A MATTER THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. DRIVER'S POWER WINDOW SWITCH FAILED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO AT LEAST 3 DOZEN OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS WHO HAVE ALL REPORTED THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM (I POSTED A MESSAGE TO AN INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD).*AK
2000 NISSAN ALTIMA - ALTERNATOR 'OVERCHARGED' THE BATTERY, CAUSING THE BATTERY TO EXPLODE. LUCKILY THE HOOD WAS DOWN AND THE ENGINE WAS COLD, OTHERWISE THERE COULD HAVE BEEN PHYSICAL INJURY OR DEATH AND/OR A CAR FIRE, DUE TO THE ACID CONTENT OF THE BATTERY.NO 'WARNING' WAS GIVEN OF THE ALTERNATOR OVERCHARGING. THIS SHOULD BE THE CASE, AS IT IS WITH THE WARNING OF THE ALTERNATOR UNDERCHARGING THE BATTERY.*AK
ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED ENGINE, PROBLEM REOCURRED. *TT
THE LEFT FRONT TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. *JB ALL FOUR TIRES EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION ON THE SIDEWALL. ONE TIRE BLEW OUT WHEN THE SEPARATION OCCURRED WHILE IN MOTION. FIRESTONE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES. *SCC
FIRST, MY ALTINATOR DIED AT 37000 MILES, AND THE DEALER REPLACED IT WITH A RE-FERBISHED ONE. THIS WAS LAST SUMMER, AND NOW MY CAR IS JUST NOT STARTING AT ALL SOMETIMES. ALSO, ONE DEALER SAID THAT MY MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN, AND A DIFFERENT DEALER SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE MOTOR MOUNTS. I TAKE THE CAR IN FOR IT'S INSPECTIONS, AND HAVE NOT BEEN IN ANY KIND OF AN ACCIDENT. BECAUSE MY WARRENTY IS EXPIRED, I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF IT ALL OUT OF POCKET. THIS IS THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER BOUGHT!
CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATES WHEN STOPPED OR STOPPING. THERE WAS NO POSSIBILITY MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR AT THE SAME TIME. CAR WAS SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND ENGINE TURNED OFF. ON RESTART ENGINE PERFORMED NORMALLY. *JB
MY VEHICLE IS A 2000 NISSAN ALTIMA SE. (ALSO I HAVE HEARD THERE ARE OTHER NISSANS WITH THIS PROBLEM NOT JUST ALTIMA) THE PROBLEM IS THE GUAGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILING DURING OPERATION, IE. SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, GAS GUAGE, AND TEMP GUAGE. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AND JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME IT HAPPENS THERE IS NOTHING DIFFERENT THE GUAGES WILL JUST SHUT OFF AND NORMALLY FALL TO THE ZERO POSTION. SOMETIMES THE WILL FREEZE IN PLACE. AFTER THE FIRST MONTH I OWNED THE CAR (BOUGHT AS A PREOWNED VEHICLE) THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DURING THE GUAGE FAILURES I HAD THE CODE CHECKED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE SPEED SENSOR WAS BAD. I BOUGHT AND REPLACED THE SPEED SENSOR WITH AN OEM PART. HOWEVER THE GUAGE FAILURE WAS NOT FIXED IT STILL HAPPENS. THE INCIDENT DATE STARTED 21FEB2003 AND STILL PERSISTS AND THE NUMBERS OF FAILURES I HAVEN'T KEPT COUNT BUT ABOUT AVERAGE OF EVERYOTHER DAY IT GOES OUT.
MY ODOMETER, HEAT GAUGE, RMP, AND GAS GAUGE GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING AND NISSAN HEADQUARTERS WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT. THERE ALSO HAS BEEN OTHER CASES REPORTED TO NISSAN. *JB

WHILE DRIVING, THE FOUR WAY FLASHERS STARTED BLINKING, THE HORN STARTED BLOWING AND THE HEADLIGHTS WENT FROM LIGHT TO DIM. THE CONSUMER FELT THIS MAY BE THE RESULT OF A FAULTY ALARM SYSTEM. *NLM THIS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. *SCC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION BUT NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. *NLM *NM
WHEN DRIVING AT 45MPH TO 50 MPH IN NORMAL EVENING TRAFFIC, SUDDENLY THE TACHOMETER, ENGINE TEMP GAGE AND SPEEDOMETER WENT TO ZERO/NO READING. DIGITAL ODOMETER ALSO WENT TO ZERO. FUEL GAGE SHOWED MORE THAN FULL WHEN THE ACTUAL READING SHOULD BE ABOUT 3/4 FULL. A WEB SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST TO TWO OTHER OWNERS WHO MAY HAVE NOT REPORTED THIS TO NHTSA. AFTER HEARING A SQUEALING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD WHILE ACCELARATING ONTO A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP. THE PULLEY APPARENTLY STRIPPED THE BEARINGS AND FROZE UP ON THE HUB. THIS CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT TO SLIP AND BREAK WHICH ALSO BROKE THE OTHER ACCESSORY BELT. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNDRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED FOR REPAIRS. DT
STOPPED AT RED LIGHT, CAR RACED TO 4500 RPMS, FOOT ON BRAKE. PUT IN NETURAL, KICKED GAS PEDAL, RACED EVEN HIGHER, KICKED IT AGAIN, IT SLOWED DOWN. WENT 500 FEET, RACED TO 7000 RPMS. TOOK TO DEALER, NOTHING FOUND WRONG. HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE 12 OF OCTOBER, THEN AGAIN ON THE 14 OF OCTOBER. AT DEALERSHIP NOW THEY ARE GOING TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO THEM. SCARY SITUATION. CONSUMER WROTE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE IN OBTAINING REIMBURSEMENT FROM FIRESTONE FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE RECALLED FIRESTONE FIREHAWK GTA02 TIRE SIZE P205/55R16, DOT # W2T2VF3319. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO GET RECALL REPAIRS, THERE WAS A BLOWOUT ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. FIRESTONE INFORMED NHTSA THAT THEY HAD REIMBURSED THE CONSUMER FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRES HE PURCHASED FOR HIS VEHICLE. *TT

BRAKES REPAIRED 4 TIMES, AND EACH TIME THEY HAVE FAILED. "BRAKES NEEDING READJUSTMENT". ONE OF THE MECHANICS STATED THEY DO NO WRONG WITH VEHICLE. *AK
CAR AUTOMATICALLY RAPIDLY ACCELERATES WHEN STOPPED. THE ANTI-LOCK OFF LIGHT APPEARED. THIS RAPID ACCELERATION HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES IN A TWO WEEK PERIOD. I AM 50 YEARS OLD AND HAVE NEVER HAD AN ACCIDENT. NOW I HAVE REAR ENDED TWO PEOPLE WHEN I WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED. THE FIRST TIME, THE CAR STOPPED WHEN I HIT THE CAR IN A DRIVE THROUGH MCDONALD'S. THE SECOND I WAS STOPPED 2-4 FEET BEHIND A PICK UP TRUCK AT A LIGHT AND MY CAR ACCELERATED AND HIT HIM. I HAD TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK TO STOP IT AFTER I HIT HIM. THE THIRD TIME IT OCCURRED I WAS THE FIRST ONE IN LINE AT AN INTERSECTION. I DID NOT HIT ANYONE, BUT HAD TO SHUT THE CAR OFF FOR IT TO COME BACK TO A COMPLETE START. THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD MY CAR ON TWO OCCASIONS AND IT DID NOT MALFUNCTION WHEN THEY HAD IT IN THEIR POSSESSION. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SENTRA MODEL. I NOW AM FEARFUL OF DRIVING MY CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK WHENEVER I STOP. I AM GOING TO WRITE TO THE PRESIDENT OF NISSAN. THIS IS MY THIRD ALTIMA AND I LOVE MY CAR I AM JUST PETRIFIED TO GET BEHIND THE WHEEL. THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS IT MAY BE WHEN I AM DROPPING MY SON OFF AT SCHOOL.*AK

WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 75 AT SPEED OF 75 MPH VEHICLE ENGINE SHUT OFF, VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER LOCATION WHEREBY SERVICE DEPT. INDICATED THE OVERHEATING WAS CAUSED BY DRIVING IN FLOODED CONDITION WHEN IN TRUE FACT THERE WAS NOT MORE THAN 1" OF WATER ON THE HIGHWAY THAT AFTERNOON. SERVICE DEPT. ANALYSIS WAS DIAGONISED AS DRIVING IN FLOODED CONDITIONS HENCE CAUSING AT 75 MPH THE RADIATOR FAN BLADE TO BE PUSHED BACK OVER 3-4" TOWARDS THE RADIATOR CAUSING THE PLASTIC FAN BLADE TO PENETRATE THE RADIATOIR CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THIS DASSUMPTION BY THE SERVICE TECHNICANS MAKES NO LOGICAL SENSE AS THE FORCES REQUIRED TO CAUSE SUCH DAMAGE IS NOT LOGICAL. THE FAN BLADE SITS AT LEAST 3-4" BEHIND THE RADIATOR AND WOULD REQUIRE GREAT FORCES TO MOVE IT FORWARD IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TO SUSTAIN SUCH AN INCIDENT, THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE PLASTIC BLADE. DEALER AND NISSAN REFUSES TO ACCEPT WARRANTY AND AS SUCH I HAVE HAD TO INVOLVE MY INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK
THIS VEHICLE MAY HAVE A SAFETY PROBLEM. WHEN I BACK THE CAR, I WAS BRAKING THE CAR. HOWEVER THE ENGINE OUPUTS TOO MUCH POWER AND IT IS VERY HARD TO CONTROL. ALSO ANOTHER TIME, I HAVE TO BRAKE HARD TO STOP THE CAR AS THE ENGINE OUTPUT TOO MUCH POWER WHILE BRAKING.*AK

I STARTED TO BRAKE MY VEHICLE WELL BEFORE A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT. IN THE LINE OF TRAFFIC, I WAS BRAKING FIRMLY BUT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. AT THE RED TRAFFIC LIGHT, MY VEHICLE KEPT BUMPING A BMW IN FRONT OF ME. I BEGAN HONKING MY HORN FOR THE DRIVER OF THE OTHER VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD, BUT SHE DID NOT. WITH MY FOOT CONSTANTLY ON THE BRAKE, I PUT MY VEHICLE INTO PARK. WHEN I DID THAT, IT ACCELERATED MORE. A MAN IN A TRUCK IN THE NEXT LANE SAW THAT I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY BRAKING, SO HE SHOUTED TAHT I SHOULD TURN OFF MY IGNITION. I DID. THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED. THE DRIVER OF THE BMW APPROACHED MY CAR ASKING WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE MAN IN THE TRUCK VERIFIED TO HER THAT I WAS BRAKING, BUT COULDN'T STOP MY VEHICLE FROM BUMPING HER. WE EXCHANGED INFORMATION. I DROVE MY VEHICLE TO MY SERVICE MECHANIC NEARBY. HE COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY. THE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND A DTS WAS ALSO CALLED TO INSPECT MY VEHICLE. THE ALSO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES, BUT THEY DID FIX MY AIR CONDITIONER. IT WAS LEAKING INSIDE THE CAR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE RUG WAS COMPLETELY SOAKED. THE ALSO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THE VEHICLE IS NOW PARKED (DELIVERED BY DEALERSHIP) IN FRONT OF MY HOME BECAUSE I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ABOUT THESE EPISODES CALLED "SPONTANEOUS ACCELERATION". I ALSO SEE THAT YOU HAVE COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE THAT SUGGEST THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS IN OTHER ALTIMA'S, AS WELL AS OTHER MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLES. HOPEFULLY, YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. I REFUSE TO BECOME A FATALITY STATISTIC BY TAKING THE CHANCE OF DRIVING MY CAR AND HAVING THIS UNPREDICTABLE EVENT OCCUR AGAIN. NOR DO I WANT TO HURT ANYONE ELSE. I WANT NISSAN TO REPLACE MY VEHICLE. ON 4/29/01 I NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SLICE IN MY TIRE I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE ALTIMA DEALER WHO STATED I HAD TO BRING MY CAR TO A PLACE THAT SELLS GENERAL BRAND TIRES WHEN I DID THAT I TOOK IT TO A SEARS THEY TOOK THE WHEEL OFF AND STATED TO ME THAT IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE TIRE ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE UPON CHECKING THE REST OF MY TIRES THEY FOUND THAT THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE, THEY ALSO TOLD ME TO WATCH THE BACK 2 TIRES BECAUSE THEY CAME FROM THE SAME LOT OF TIRES, THEY CALLED GENERAL TIRE WHO STATED I WILL HAVE TO PAY 15 DOLLARS A TIRE FOR REPLACEMENT OF 2 TIRES, THEY DID NOT OFFER TO RECALL AND REPLACE THE REAR 2 TIRES, I ALSO NOTIFIED THE NISSAN DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND TALKED TO JAMIE IN SERVICE WHO MORE OR LESS LAUGHED AND SAID OH REALLY THATS TERRIBLE, I ALSO CALLED THE 1-800-NISSAN-1 NUMBER, THEN I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS GENERAL TIRES PROBLEM AND NOT THEIRS??? SO NOW I HAVE TO WAIT 5 DAYS FOR THE REPLACEMENT TIRES AND I AM DRIVING AROUND WITH ONE SPARE TIRE (DONUT) AND ONE BAD TIRE UNTIL THE REPLACEMENTS COME IN.*AK (DOT NUMBER: ACUN2N7329 TIRESIZE: P205/6OR15)

WE HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR SINCE THE DAY WE PURCHASED IT.THERE ACTUALLY WAS A PROBLEM BEFORE WE PURCHASED IT & WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE CORRECTED IF WE BOUGHT THE CAR.WE HAVE HAD THE CAR IN ABOUT THIS & THEY ARE UNABLE TO CORRECT IT. THE TRANSMISSION HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT IT FAILED WHEN MY WIFE & KIDS PULLED OUT ONTO A BUSY ROAD & WERE ALMOST HIT BECAUSE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED TO STAY IN GEAR. THE GARAGE KEEPS TELLING US THAT THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE ANY OF THE SYMPTOMS AND WE ARE AFRAID TO USE THE CAR NOW.*AK

CONSUMER HAS TO PUMP GAS PEDAL TO GET VEHICLE STARTED. CONSUMER SOMETIMES HAS TO LEAVE SOMEONE IN VEHICLE TO KEEP IT RUNNING. VEHICLE IS TOO NEW TO BE DOING THIS. DEALER CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WIHT IT.*AK
WE FIRST STARTED TO NOTICE A DEEP, LOUD RUMBLE WHEN BRAKING...SOUNDS LIKE HITTING A RUMBLE STRIP ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE NOISE WAS SO LOUD THAT MY SISTER ASKED, "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?" I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT IN THIS CAR BUT HAVE BEEN MADE TO TAKE IT IN TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS ON 8 TO 10 OCCASIONS...EVERYTIME I TAKE MY CAR IN -THEY INSPECT AND TELL ME MY BRAKES ARE DUSTY OR GLAZED AND OR NEED ADJUSTING. ONE DEALERSHIP EVEN REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYTEM IN AUGUST 2001- IN DECEMBER 2001 - ANOTHER DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THAT THERE IS NO WAY THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS REPLACED BECAUSE MY BRAKES WERE VERY WORN AND GLAZED/DUSTED OVER AGAIN OR THAT THERE IS SOME KIND OF PROBLEM CAUSING THE BRAKES TO WEAR AT AN AMAZINGLY FAST RATE!!!!!!!!! I HAVE WRITTEN A 7 PAGE LETTER -SENT COPIES OF SERVICE BILLS - REQUESTED A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE -BEEN FRUSTRATED WITH SERVICE-WASTED MANY HOURS FROM WORK, AND HOME IN DEALING WITH DEALERSHIPS AND NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND NEIGHTER WILL ADMIT THAT THEY EITHER CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM OR THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. WE HAVE HAD THE RUN AROUND FOR 2.5 YEARS....THE PROBLEM GETS FIXED TEMPORARILY AND THEN COMES RIGHT BACK. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA IS TELLING ME THAT I HAVE TO LET THEM TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT MY BRAKES AND GIVE THEM ANOTHER CHANCE TO FIX THIS ONGOING PROBLEM. MY LAST VISIT FOR REPAIRS WAS AROUND MAY ? 2002 - THE BRAKES ARE ONCE AGAIN STARTING TO MAKE A DEEP, LOUD RUMBLE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES -SOUNDS TO BE IN THE REAR END OF THE CAR. HOWEVER, THE NOISE IS NOT ALWAYS PRESENT WHEN USING THE BRAKES.- SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS MORE IN DAMP WEATHER. ALSO, ONCE THE RUMBLE GETS REESTABLISHED...IT BECOME VERY LOUD, VERY OBVIOUS. FAULTY FIRESTONE FIREHAWK TIRES CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE THE RECALLED TIRES FROM FIRESTONE AND THERE WAS ALSO SOME STEERING DAMAGE, CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMT. *JB

CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED 5 FIRESTONE DEALERS IN HIS AREA ABOUT RECALL ON FIREHAWK, P205/55R16 TIRES, WHEN HE CALLED TWO OF THEM, THEY SAID THEY HAD T TIRES IN STOCK. WHEN CONSUMER GOT TO DEALER AND SHOWED RECALL LETTER, THEY NO LONGER HAD THOSE TIRES IN STOCK. OTHER 3 DEALERS TOLD HIM THEY WOULD CALL WHEN TIRES CAME IN. ALSO, CONTACTED FIRESTONE, WAS TOLD TO CONTACT DEALER. PLEASE ADD FIRESTONE DEALER NAMES AND ADDRESSES.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WITHOUT ANY INDICATION VEHICLE WOULD STALL. CONSUMER IS ABLE TO RESTART.*AK
CAR CANNOT BE ALIGNED. CASTOR SETTING IS BELOW SPEC (SET AT THE FACTORY). CAR HAS NOT BEEN HIT NOR DAMAGED.*AK
THE REAR WHEEL AREA AT THE INNER FENDER HAS SHARP EDGES. *SLC
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPLACEMENT OF FIRESTONE TIRES, ONLY 3 OUT OF 4 TIRES WHERE REPLACED, WAS ADVISED BY MECHANIC THAT THE 4TH TIRE WAS NOT A FIRESTONE TIRE, CONSUMER EXPLAINED THAT THE TIRE EXPERIENCED A BLOW OUT AND HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED PRIOR TO RECALL, CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL 4 TIRES. *JB
