I HAD RECALL WORK DONE AND THE RESULT IS MY ENGINE NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA NOW CONSUMES 1.5 QUARTS OF OIL EVERY 100 MILES. EAST CHARLOTTE NISSAN PERFORMED THE FOLLOWING RECALLS P5216 AND R0606 IN ADDITION TO THIS THEY REPLACED THE O2 SENSOR AT A COST OF $365.00. WITHIN TWO DAYS (300 MILES) OF GETTING THE VEHICLE BACK THE OIL WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY AND IT HAS NEEDED TO BE REFILLED EVERY 200 MILES SINCE THE ORIGINAL VISIT TO EAST CHARLOTTE NISSAN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. NISSANS OWN RECALL STATES THAT FOR A NUMBER OF VEHICLES AND ENGINE REPLACEMENT WILL BE NECESSARY. THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEIR VERY OWN RECALL NOTICE. I HAVE DOCUMENTED REGULAR SERVICE ON THIS VEHICLE THAT IS WELL WITHIN THE RECOMMENDED GUIDELINES. INCLUDING AN OIL CHANGE AT A REPUTABLE RETAILER AT INTERVALS OF 3-4000 MILES.*JB
SLOWED VEHICLE AND SEES LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. VEHICLE DIED. RESTARTED VEHICLE. SES LIGHT ON CONSTANT. VEHICLE 'PULSES' - LIKE NOT GETTING ENOUGH FUEL. *NM
UPDATE TO ODI 10176518. POWER VALVE SCREWS WERE FOUND MISSING. SCREWS WERE INGESTED INTO COMBUSTION CHAMBER OF ENGINE. *JB
MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH 102K MILES ON THE 2.5LITER WAS DRIVEN ONLY ABOUT 8 MILES WHEN ENGINE SUDDENLY SLOWED AND STALLED WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED. ALL VEHICLE SERVICE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN PERFORMED. UNTIMATELY MY EXPENSE TO REBUILT THE ENGINE WAS $2.2K WITH NISSAN REFUSING TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY. HAVE OTHERS HAD SIMILAR EXPERIENCE? DID NISSAN ALSO NOT STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS? *CN
WELL I HAVEN'T NECESSARILY "CRASHED" YET. I TOOK MY CAR INTO TOWN NORTH NISSAN OFF 183 DUE TO A RECALL NOTICE THAT WAS SENT TO MY HOME. I GOT THE VEHICLE BACK, AS THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD NEED IT FOR AT LEAST A DAY, 2 1/2 HOURS LATER. I NOTICED THAT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I TOOK THE CAR BACK IMMEDIATELY THE FOLLOWING DAY. NOBODY WAS WILLING TO HELP ME. SO LATER THAT EVENING I TOOK MY CAR TO THE AUTO ZONE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTICS SCAN DONE ON IT. SURE ENOUGH THE PROBLEM WASN'T FIXED. IT STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING WHICH WAS THE KEY TO THE WHOLE PROBLEM AS THIS CAN CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE. MY CAR HAS COMPLETELY TURNED ITSELF OFF ON MY WHILE DRIVE (HOWEVER THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION). *NM
I BOUGHT A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA IN OCTOBER 2002. IT HAD 4 MILES ON IT FROM MY TEST DRIVE. MY FIRST OIL CHANGE WAS SIX WEEKS LATER BECAUSE I WAS WORKING 100 MILES ROUND-TRIP TO WORK. THE DEALERSHIP INITIALLY LEFT THE CAP OFF MY RADIATOR WHICH CAUSED THE CAR TO SMOKE AND SPUTTER WHEN I PICKED IT UP. IN FEBRUARY 2003, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY CAB FILLED UP WITH SMOKE. I HAD TO PULL OVER BECAUSE THE CAR RAN HOT. THE DEALERSHIP DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPAIRS TO THE CAR. THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE RADIATOR. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE "HOSES" BECAUSE RODENTS HAD EATEN THROUGH THE HOSES THAT CAUSED THE FLUID TO LEAK. I ASKED FOR ANOTHER VEHICLE, BUT THEY REFUSED. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED EVERY HOSE ON THE CAR. I HAD TO BUY A NEW RADIATOR, HEATER COIL (THE CAR WOULD BLOW COLD AIR WHEN SITTING STILL), AND RIGHT NOW I'M WAITING ON A COMPRESSOR. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A PIECE OF JUNK SINCE I MADE THE PURCHASE. I HAVE OWNED 2 MAXIMAS, AND CURRENTLY HAVE AN OLDER MODEL PATHFINDER AS WELL. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS LIKE THIS WITH THE OTHER ONES. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ALTIMA. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY STALLS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL # 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER ALSO FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER REASONS THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE, BUT THE CONTACT CANNOT RECALL WHAT THEY WERE. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 67,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
HAD THE ECM REPROGRAM DONE A FEW WEEKS AGO. COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, DEALER RESET THE ECM AGAIN. PAST WEEK, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. DEALER NOW SAYS THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR IS BAD. WE HAD THE "STALLING ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING" ISSUE IN NOV 2003. AT THAT TIME AND UNDER SEVERE PRESSURE FROM ME, THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANK AND CAMSHAFT POSITION...STALLING PROBLEM SOLVED. HERE WE ARE 3 YEARS LATER BACK TO THE BAD CRANK POSITION SENSOR AGAIN AND DEALER IS SAYING MY VIN IS NOT IN THE RANGE OF THE SENSOR RECALL AND I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT REPLACED. IN MY OPINION, NISSAN IS TRYING TO PROGRAM THE ECM TO HIDE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SENSORS AND IT'S MADE IT MORE PRONOUNCED. THE DEALER IS TRYING TO SOFTEN THE BLOW A BIT BY KNOCKING SOME OFF THE CHARGES, BUT I'M STILL HAVING TO COUGH UP $184 FOR A WELL KNOWN, WELL DOCUMENTED AND AGING DEFECT. COME ON NISSAN, FIX THE PROBLEM....IT'S A DANGEROUS ONE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO START, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE AIR FLOW FILTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTERWARDS, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. A NHTSA RECALL, #06V242000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE CONCERNING, THE ENGINE HOWEVER, THE RECALL DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT OFFER A SECOND REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH 39,578 MILES ON IT ON SEPTEMBER 9, 2006. AFTER OWNING THE CAR FOR 3 MONTHS, THE RADIATOR STARTED TO LEAK FROM THE TOP. I TOOK IT TO A RADIATOR SHOP AND THEY FIXED IT WHILE SAYING THAT NISSAN HAD USED CHEAP PARTS. A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON IT SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE TO GET THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM. THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT CAUSED THE CAR TO STALL WHEN CRANKING/STARTING AND LEFT ME STRANDED AT SOME POINTS AND TIMES BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER REPLACING THIS SENSOR, LATER TO FIND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SENSOR AND WAS TOLD MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL EVENTHOUGH I ASSUME THE SAME PARTS ARE USED ON ALL MODELS OF THE SAME KIND, ANOTHER SENSOR IS NOW CAUSING MY CAR TO IDLE HIGH WHEN IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IN THE CAR CAUSES MORE GAS CONSUMING WHICH IN TODAY'S ECONOMIC BATTLE WITH FUEL PRICES, IS NOT FAVORABLE. NOW THAT I HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER PEOPLE, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM ON 2002-2005 ALTIMA MODELS. IF THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED SOONER, THE CAR COULD HAVE STOPPED RUNNING IN TRAFFIC, WHICH IS WHY IT WAS RECALLED, AND CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT MAYBE EVEN DEATH. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN CONFIDENCE THAT IT WOULD BE DEPENDABLE FOR MYSELF AND MY CHILD BUT SINCE I HAVE CALLED TO LOG A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR HAS THREE OTHER RECALLS THAT WERE STATED AS " SERIOUS TO MY SAFETY". *TR
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S. CAR STALLS WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MANY, MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION AND ENGINE SPEED INPUT CIRCUIT CAUSING THIS STALLING. THERE'S A RECALL FOR 2002 MODELS, BUT NOT FOR 2003 AND THIS IS DANGEROUS. *JB
2003 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS AT THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL ECM RE PROGRAM , AFTER THAT DOWN HILL , DEALER TOLD ME THE CODE ALSO CALLED FOR A CATALYTIC CONVERTER , THE CAR STALLED 15 TIMES, ONE TIME I HAD TO STAY OVER NIGHT ON A FAST FOOD PLACE. NEXT DAY A MECHANIC CHANGED THE CRANK POS SENSOR , THEN CALLED FOR ANOTHER SENSOR SIMILAR ON SHAPE , THEN BACK TO THE DEALER, THIS TIME THE CAR ACCELERATES FOR NO REASON , THEY TRY TO CHARGE ME FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC(FOR CATALYTIC AGING) THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER (AND I HAVE THAT IN WRITING) THAT I NEED A THROTTLE ? CHAMBER 959+ TAX. FINALLY I THINK I MAKE A MISTAKE GOING IN ON THE FIRST PLACE OR THE SAME ISSUES THE 2002 ALTIMA HAD IS REPEATING ON THE 2003 AND NISSAN IS WAITING FOR SOMETHING REAL BAD TO HAPPEN, BY THE WAY , I CALL THEM ABOUT 6 TIMES AND NO REAL SOLUTION JUST PASSING THE BUCK. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. IN 2006, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HEATING SYSTEM WAS NOT HEATING PROPERLY. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY CLEANED THE AIR POCKETS. PREVIOUSLY IN 2003, THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V084000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: EXHAUST SYSTEM: MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE). IN 2007, AT 77,000 MILES, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED SO SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS FOUND THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE HEAD GASKET ALSO FAILED. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND REQUESTED THAT THEY PAY FOR THE CATALYTIC REPAIR BECAUSE THE FAILURES OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR, ALTHOUGH THEY MAY CONSIDER PAYING FOR THE HEAD GASKET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA VIN 1N4AL11D33C2XXXXX WAS DISPLAYING A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WITH A CODE OF P0 507- IDLE SYSTEM TOO HIGH.....THIS APPEARED APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS FOLLOWING THE R0606 RECALL FOR A ECM RE-PORGRAM FOR A CRANK ENGINE SENSOR. THE INTRESTING THING, MY SISTER HAS THE SAME CAR, DID THE SAME RECALL AROUND THE SAME TIME AND HAD THE SAME SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT APPEAR THE SAME DAY WITH THE SAME CODE. SEARCHING THE WEB, IT APPEARS MANY FOLKS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I PAID ABOUT $140 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED AND WANT NISSAN TO REFUND MY MONEY, HOWEVER 6 CALLS TO THEM HAS GOTTEN ME NO WHERE. *NM

I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CRANK SENSOR ON MY 03 NISSAN ALTIMA, THE CAR WILL SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF ON A HEAVY TRAVELED ROAD. DEC 06, SERVICE LIGHT IS BACK ON AND VEHICLE IS RUNNING ROUGH, STALLING AND HARD STARTING. SCANNED SYSTEM AND CODE P0507 (IDLE SPEED) WAS PULLED. WAS ADVISED TO TAKE CAR TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A RELEARN PERFORMED ON THE COMPUTER. DEC 14, 2006, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LITHIA NISSAN, PROCEDURE WAS PERFORMED AND SENSORS WERE-CALIBRATED. RECOMMENDED A THROTTLE BODY BE REPLACED (COST $800). VEHICLE RUNNING ROUGH, SERVICE LIGHT ON AND STALLING ARE OCCURRING AGAIN. NOV 02, 2007 ENGINE LIGHT ON, VEHICLE RUNNING POORLY, HARD STARTING AND STALLING. WAS INFORMED BY REPAIR SHOP ABOUT POSSIBLE RECALL ISSUES RELATING TO VEHICLE. CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AFTER READING ABOUT RECALL FOR 2002, 2004-2005 VEHICLES SIMILAR TO MINE WITH SAME PROBLEMS (REFERENCE #5962832 & 6071239). TALKED TO REP ABOUT THE RECALL AND THE ISSUES WITH MY 2003 ALTMAN 2.5L AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK TO DEALERSHIP TO HAVE ANOTHER SCAN DONE. FEB 9, 2008 VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LITHIA NISSAN TO RUN A SYSTEM SCAN. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING POORLY, HARD STARTS, STALLING, ROUGH IDLE. DEALERSHIP PULLED FOUR CODES, P0420 CATALYST BANK 1, AND P0335CKP SENSOR, P0302 CYLINDER 2 MISS-FIRES AND P0725 ENGINE SPEED SENSOR. WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYST IS BAD AND COULD NOT ONLY BE CAUSING THE MISS-FIRE CODE BUT MAY ALSO RUIN MY ENGINE. ALSO THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR IS BAD. APPROX COST OF REPAIR, $1000. I CONTACTED MATTHEW AGAIN ABOUT THE RESULTS AND WAS TOLD THAT DUE TO NOT HAVING THE VEHICLE REGULARLY MAINTAINED AT A 'NISSAN' DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TRACK A MAINTENANCE RECORD AND THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY CAR. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR MOVING VERY SLOWLY,NOT STAYING IN THE ROAD, PULLING AWAY FROM ME. I HAVE TO DRIVE MY CAR WITH 2 HANDS TO KEEP IN THE ROAD. I HAVE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME MANY DIFFERENT PROBLEMS THAT MIGHT BE WRONG WITH MY CAR. WHEN I FINALLY DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO ANOTHER MAINTENANCE SHOP JUST TO MAKE SURE I WAS BEING TOLD THE TRUTH. AFTER 30 MIN OF HAVING MY VEHICLE I WAS TOLD BY A GOODYEAR MANAGER THAT I HAVE 3X THE WRONG SIZE TIRES ON MY VEHICLE. HE TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE 205/65/16 TIRES ON MY CAR AND I HAVE 225/60/16 TIRES ON MY VEHICLE. I AM FURIOUS BECAUSE I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH THOSE TIRES ON MY CAR AND HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN THERE SEVERAL TIMES TO BE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE AND THEY KNEW THAT WAS THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. MY CAR IS NOT A STEADY VEHICLE I FEEL UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY HOLD IT STILL IN THE ROAD. WHEN IT RAIN I FEEL LIKE I WRECK AT ANYTIME. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD AND IT HURTS ME TO KNOW THAT I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR IN THERE SEVERAL TIMES AND NOT ONE TIME HAVE THEY SAID ANYTHING ABOUT MY TIRES. I HAVE HAD THOSE TIRES ALIGNED AND BALANCE BUT THE TECH TOLD ME IT WOULD DO ME NO GOOD BECAUSE THE TIRES ARE 3 TIMES TO BIG. PLEASE HELP I THINK THEY SHOULD REPLACE MY TIRES WITH THE RIGHT SIZE. ALSO MY SEAT BELTS ON THE CAR WILL NOT EXTRACT I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY WILL PULL THEM OUT BUT WHEN I LEAVE AFTER ABOUT 4 TO 5 DAYS MY BELTS WILL GET STUCK AGAIN I ALSO HAD MY SEAT BELTS CHECKED AND WAS TOLD IT IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS AND NISSAN WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME FLAT OUT IT IS NOT THERE PROBLEM I CAN NOT PULL A SEAT BELT. I HAVE TO LET MY DAUGHTER RIDE IN THE BACK AT TIMES WITHOUT A SEAT BELT UNTIL I CAN FIND SOMEONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SEAT BELTS ARE GETTING HUNG FROM THE CORE OF THE ENTRANCE BUT THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. **NM
MY VEHICLE'S ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WHILE WAITING AT A RED LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT EVEN CRANK ITS ENGINE. AFTER 10 MINS THE ENGINE CRANKED AND STARTED, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP, AND EXPLAINED OF A RECALL THAT STATED, " THAT SOME 2003 ALTIMAS MIGHT STOP RUNNING WHILE DRIVING DUE TO A PROBLEM BETWEEN THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR AND THE ECM". WHEN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED ME BACK, THEY STATED THAT I HAD TO HAVE THE POSITION SENSOR REPLACED AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT OUT OF POCKET. 2003 ALTIMA'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. *TS THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE PERTAINING TO AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM BETWEEN THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR AND THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE CONSUMER CALLED THE DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE. PRIOR TO THE APPOINTMENT THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXHIBIT SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALL, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. THE TECH INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE CRANK SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THEY COULD NOT REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER WITHOUT REPLACING IT. *NM
THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT I'VE FILED WITHIN THE SPAN OF 30 DAYS. I HAVE BEEN HAVING STALLING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA FOR THE LAST 2 MONTHS. THE ENGINE WOULD COMPLETELY STOP DURING LOW SPEEDS AND AT STOP (4 TIMES AT A STOP AND ONCE DURING A TURN). I HAVE ALREADY HAD ISSUES WITH MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN SERVICING MY RECALLS. FIRST I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON MY CAR SO I DROVE IT HOME. THEN I WENT BACK AGAIN AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS INDEED A RECALL FOR THE ECM. SO I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SHOWED THEM THE REPORTS. THE DEALERSHIP DECIDED TO REPROGRAM MY ECM (AS THE RECALL STATES) AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ELSE WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE THAT COULD BE CAUSING THE STALLS. HOWEVER, JUST TWO WEEKS AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR THE RECALLS, MY CAR ENGINE DIES AGAIN. I CALLED INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTIC ON MY CAR ENGINE AND ONCE MORE THEY COULD NOT LOCATE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ ONLINE REPORTS OF OTHER NISSAN OWNERS WHERE THEY COMPLAINED OF THE SAME SITUATION- EVEN AFTER THE REPROGRAMMING OF THE ECM, THE ENGINE STILL STALLS. SO NOW I HAVE MY CAR BACK BUT STILL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I'VE ALSO TAKEN MY CAR TO AN NON-NISSAN MECHANIC AND HE TOO COULD LOCATE THE PROBLEM. NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN VEHICLES, OR AT LEAST BE ABLE TO LOCATE AND FIX THE PROBLEMS WHEN IT OCCURS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO THE ENGINE STALLING WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30-35 MPH, A CHILD LOCATED BEHIND THE DRIVER SEAT BECAME CAUGHT IN THE SEAT BELT. THE CHILD BEGAN TO YELL BECAUSE THE SEAT BELT WAS TIGHTENING WHICH CAUSED THE CHILD TO CHOKE. THE CHILD WAS CUT OUT OF THE SEAT BELT WITH SCISSORS. ON MANY OCCASIONS, THE DRIVER SEAT BELT TIGHTENED SO BAD THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO UNLATCH THE SEAT BELT TO ESCAPE BEING CHOKED ALSO.
I RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM NISSAN INFORMING ME OF A RECALL (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: RQ06001). I TOOK MY NISSAN IN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO BE SERVICED ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE RECALL NOTICE ON 08/28/2006. ON 10/05/2006, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE COMPUTER CODE FOR THE ERROR WAS P0507 AND IT WAS $91 TO REPAIR. I'VE HEARD FROM SEVERAL OTHER ALTIMA OWNERS WHO TOOK THEIR VEHICLES IN TO BE SERVICED FOR THE RECALL AND THEN HAD TO GO BACK WITHIN A MONTH BECAUSE OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SUBSEQUENT P0507 FINDING. I THINK THEY ARE NOT ADEQUATELY SERVICING THIS RECALL BECAUSE ONE OF THE SYMPTOMS OF THE DEFECTIVE PART IS FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE RECALL REPAIR WORK #06V242000 WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN 10/06. THREE DAYS AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO RUN IDLE. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING IDENTIFIED THAT THE IDLE WAS OFF AND NEEDED TO BE RELEARNED, WHICH WAS PERFORMED. 12 MILES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN IDLING WORST THAN IT DID BEFORE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE COMPUTER WAS BAD BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT ACCEPT THE RELEARNING OF THE IDLE. THE COMPUTER WAS REPLACED. FOUR DAYS LATER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS JUMPED AND TAKEN TO A INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY AND STARTER. THEY ALL TESTED NORMAL TO MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS. THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD PROBABLY NOT START DUE TO A DEFECTIVE COMPUTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND RECOMMENDED THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO A DEALER.
2003 ALTIMA THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE CAUSING CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. I REFUSED TO PAY THIS FEE AND TOOK THE CAR HOME AND THE NEXT DAY IT CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO STEER IT OFF THE HIGHWAY W/OUT INCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND DROVE TO HER RESIDENCE. SHE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT BEING PROPERLY MAINTAINED. LATER THAT WEEK, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE STATING THAT THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL CONTROL MODULE (ECM) NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE ELECTRICAL CONTROL MODULE. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AND THE POWER STEERING BECAME INOPERABLE. SHE RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPROGRAMMED THE ECM FOR THE THIRD TIME DUE TO CONSISTENT STALLING. SIX MONTHS LATER, THE STALLING RECURRED. SHE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL WAS SATISFIED AND THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR FURTHER REPAIRS. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHICH REVEALED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED HER THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE REPROGRAMMING THE ECM. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS FOR THE CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. DEAR NHTSA, RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA, MORE SPECIFICITY, THE ENGINE HAS STOPPED RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND A RECALL ON THE NISSAN WEBSITE FOR THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR ON ALL 2002 ALTIMAS, BUT NOTHING FOR 2003 ALTIMAS. HOWEVER, WHILE RESEARCHING ON THE WEB I FOUND SEVERAL REPORTS, INCLUDING THE NHTSA WEBSITE (CAMPAIGN # 06V-242), INDICATING THAT A FEW 200,000 2003 ALTIMAS/SENTRAS (2.5 LITER) WERE BEING RECALLED FOR THE SAME CRANK ANGLE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THIS ISSUE UP WITH THE NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT (CERRITOS) AND WAS THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SUPPORT AND SERVICE FROM THE TECHNICIANS. FIRST, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL. THEN, I WAS INFORMED THAT NOT ALL RECALLS ARE LISTED IN THE WEBSITE AND I WOULD HAVE TO GET MY CAR SERVICED FIRST AND ONLY AFTER COULD THEY DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT MY CAR IS UNDER THE WARRANTY. AND I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR WHATEVER REPAIRS THAT WAS NEEDED TO BE DONE. I DO NOT HAVE AN ISSUE WITH PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS IF IT IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE; HOWEVER, SHOULDN'T THE NISSAN'S TECHNICIANS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS UNDER RECALL BY LOOKING INTO THE VIN NUMBER OR THE PARTS NUMBER? ALSO, THE RECALL IS NOT LISTED OR ANNOUNCED ON THE NISSAN WEBSITE BUT IS REPORTED IN SEVERAL ARTICLES. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN NISSAN'S RESPONSIBILITY TO INFORM THE PUBLIC OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE, EVEN IF IT IS ONLY A SMALL NUMBER OF VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER VEHICLE FELL WITHIN THE RANGE OF THE RECALL BUT THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THEREFORE THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SENSOR. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO CHECKED THE RECALLS. THE DEALER REPLACED A FAULTY CHAMBER. THE FAULTY CHAMBER RESULTED IN A THROTTLE CHAMBER REPLACEMENT.
I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT READY TO TURN LEFT ONTO ANOTHER STREET WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR STALLS OUT RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. IT TOOK ME A FEW TIMES TO GET MY CAR STARTED AGAIN AND WHEN IT FIRED UP AGAIN I STARTED DRIVING AWAY BUT MY CAR WOULD BE HAVING A HARD TIME GOING AS IF IT WAS STARTING TO BOG OUT. I LATER DID A DIAGNOSTICS TEST AND GOT THE CODE P0335 WHICH ENDED UP BEING THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, MY CAR HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS BUT IT WASN'T AS BAD. IT WOULD JUST BOG DOWN LIKE ONCE IN 2 WEEKS BUT THIS WAS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO!. *JB

TO FIX THE PROBLEM THE DEALER RECOMMENDED THE CRANK SENSOR BE REPLACED WHICH WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL CHARGED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO ALERTED.

MY HUSBAND'S 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA CRASHED HIM INTO A PARKED CAR WHEN THE FRONT SUSPENSION BAR CRACKED. IT BREAK OFF WAS A PERFECTLY STRAIGHT LINE. THE AXEL AND TIRE COUPLINGS WERE STILL INTACT. THE FIRST TIME THAT SHE CALLED NISSAN, THEY TOLD HER THAT HER CAR WAS APART OF THE RECALL. THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE TOLD HER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN, AND LATER STATED THAT WAS THE REASON WHY THEY REPROGRAMMED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,900 MILES ON HER VEHICLE, AND IT WAS RELATED TO THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. NISSAN REFUSED TO REIMBURSE HER FOR THE REPAIRS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS CAUSING THE CAR TO SHUT OFF. THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN, AND LATER INDICATED THAT IT WAS RELATED, WHICH WAS THE REASON THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR INSTEAD OF REPLACING THEM. ALSO, THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AGAIN. NISSAN REFUSED TO REIMBURSE HER FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS REPLACED TWICE BEFORE BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 188,000.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL REGARDING NHTSA RECALL # 06V242000; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING; CRANK SENSOR AND ECM; HOWEVER THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THE VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND LURCHED FORWARD AND THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT ILLUMINATED SOON AFTER THE ABOVE REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CONTACT WAS CHARGED FOR THE ABOVE REPAIRS EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL NOTICE INDICATES THE VIN AS BEING INCLUDED. THE DEALERSHIP TREATED THE CRANK SENSOR AND ECM REPAIRS AS TWO SEPARATE REPAIRS, BUT THE RECALL NOTICE INDICATED THE TWO WERE CORRELATED TOGETHER AS ONE.

FOR A CAR THAT IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND THAT I AM STILL PAYING ON I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING THESE KINDS OF PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO ONE OF THE AUTO PARTS TO HAVE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT ITS THE SPEED SENSOR AND THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR BUT THEY DO NOT GUARANTEE ANYTHING. I WENT AHEAD AND ORDERED THE PARTS AND NOW I WILL HAVE TO FIND A MECHANIC THAT IS NOT TOO EXPENSIVE TO HAVE THE PARTS REPLACED. *NM

MY 02 ALTIMA HAS HAD FOUR RECALLS, INCLUDING THE LAST ONE IN QUESTION. I BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR LURCHING THIS SUMMER. IT ACTED AS IF IT WAS GOING TO DIE. IT EVEN BEGAN TO DIE ON ME ONCE OR TWICE AT IDLE SPEEDS. ON AUG 24TH, WHEN I PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, THE CAR DIED. IT DIED THREE TIMES WHILE I WAS TRYING TO TURN AROUND AND GET BACK TO THE PARKING LOT. I TOOK THE CAR TO A REPUTABLE, ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC. MEANWHILE, I CHECKED THE WEB. NO ADDITIONAL RECALLS WERE LISTED.) THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR NEEDED REPLACING. THE CAR CONTINUED TO LURCH AND ACT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. THE TECHS RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE NISSAN DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS KNOWN. NISSAN HAD ISSUED A RECALL, THE CAR NEEDED THE ECM REPROGRAMMED. AFTER THEY REPROGRAMMED THE ECM, NISSAN STATED THAT THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR STILL NEEDED REPLACING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC THAT HAD ALREADY REPLACED THE SENSOR. THEY ALSO SAID IT NEEDED A NEW CAM SENSOR. THEY REPLACED BOTH SENSORS AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. WITHIN A FEW DAYS, THE CAR EXHIBITED THE SAME, PREVIOUS SYMPTOMS. I TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN. THE SERV DEPT INFORMED ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE BAD NEWS - THE COST WAS $1000. THE PART WAS ESTIMATED AT $550 AND LABOR WAS AROUND $450. ESTIMATE TIME OF REPAIR = 1 1/2 HOUR. THE WARRANTY IS 5 YRS / 60K MILES. HE STATED IF THE MILEAGE WAS 60K MILES, THEN THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY... BUT, SINCE THE MILEAGE READ 65K MILES, THEN IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE SERVICE MANAGER APPLIED FOR A GOODWILL WARRANTY. THE REQUEST WAS DENIED. I CONTACTED NISSAN. AFTER FILING THE COMPLAINT AND WAITING FOR A RESPONSE, I FINALLY OPTED TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. TO DATE, NISSAN DECLINED TO PAY FOR ANY PART OF THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIR. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE PROMISED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. *NM
FAULTY DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOWS. WHEN THE CAR IS LOCKED, APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES LATER, THE HEADLIGHTS BLINK ONCE AND THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AUTOMATICALLY ROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN. *JB
I WAS MAKING A LEFT-HAND TURN AT AN INTERSECTION AT 12:00 MIDNIGHT ON A SUNDAY AND DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL NEARLY TO THE FLOOR AND AS THE CAR DOWN SHIFTED, THE CAR LURCHED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED CRIPPLED. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT REV OVER 2300 RPM AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD A DIFFICULT TIME SHIFTING. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A NISSAN DEALER AND WERE TOLD THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR HAD FAILED. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, WE FOUND THAT THE FAILURE OF THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR ON NISSAN ALTIMA'S AND MAXIMA'S IS NOT UNCOMMON. THE REPAIR BILL WAS OVER $1300 FOR DIAGNOSTICS OF THE PROBLEM, LABOR AND PARTS. I AM EXTREMELY DISPLEASED THAT THIS ISSUE IS MUCH TOO COMMON TO BE OVERLOOKED AS BEING A RECALL ITEM. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AROUND ME AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, OTHERWISE, THERE COULD HAVE BEEN A CAR ACCIDENT AS THAT INTERSECTION IS A HIGH-VOLUME INTERSECTION.*JB
