ON MY WAY HOME I WAS GOING ABOUT 25MPH, THE CAR STARTED LOSING POWER AND STARTED TO STALL. I PULLED OVER AND TOOK ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT STARTED FINE. I MADE IT TO NAPA AND ONE OF THE GUYS TOOK A LOOK AT IT AND SAID IT WAS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY IT WASN'T MOVING. SO I GOT THAT AND HAD MY FATHER PUT THAT PART ON AND PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND IT STILL DID NOTHING. I PARK IT BACK IN THE DRIVEWAY AS I NORMALLY WOULD WITH THE LITTLE POWER THAT IT DID HAVE, AND THE TRANSMISSION JUST MADE A LOUD THUMP. MY FATHER TELLS ME TO START IT UP AND I STARTED IT UP AGAIN AS I NORMALLY WOULD AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTS WHINING. THIS JUST HAPPENED OUT OF NOWHERE, THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF ANYTHING ABOUT TO HAPPEN. NO LIGHTS WERE ON, NO WEIRD NOISES, AND THE POWER WAS DOING COMPLETELY FINE. *TR
THE CAR WILL NOT CRANK. THE COMPUTER IS READING A CRANK SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR, AND I HAVE BOUGHT AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS THAT STILL WILL NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO CRANK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TWO OF THE DOOR HANDLES FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,096 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,348.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FLOOR BOARD RUSTED OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FLOOR BOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 202,000.
RUSTING TO FLOOR BOARDS ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVERS SIDE. APPROXIMATELY 6 INCH WIDE HOLE IN FLOOR BOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE WHICH FROM OTHER NUMEROUS POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET IS A PROBLEM WITH NISSAN'S FROM 2002 TO 2007. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER AND RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED ELEVEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE CRANK SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
THREE OF THE FOUR EXTERIOR CAR-DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN OFF IN THE PAST YEAR, INCLUDING TWO IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS. I'VE NOTICED THAT OTHER ALTIMA'S HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES. A TOW-TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME THAT HE SEES THE SAME THING ON OTHER ALTIMA'S THAT HE TOWS ALL OF THE TIME. THESE THINGS SHOULD NOT BREAK. I'VE NOTICED NOW, THAT NISSAN HAS SINCE STARTED USING A TOTALLY DIFFERENT TYPE OF EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE ON THEIR NEWER MODEL ALTIMA'S IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. NISSAN NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE FAULTY EQUIPMENT ON ALL OF THEIR ALTIMA CARS THAT HAVE THESE FAULTY DOOR HANDLES. THE COST TO REPLACE ONE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE IS IN EXCESS OF $140, BRINGING THE COST TO REPLACE TO REPLACE ALL FOUR EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLES IN EXCESS OF $560!!!!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, WHICH WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ECM WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
ON 9/19/2013, WHILE DRIVING ON ROUTE 21 HIGHWAY, I WAS ON MY WAY TO RUTGERS DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR ENGINE WAS FULL OF SMOKE, MY RADIATOR BLEW UP ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY AND EVEN WORSE MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF INSTANTLY. THE GUY BEHIND ME WAS VERY CLOSE TO HITTING MY CAR BUT LUCKILY HE HAD TO SLAM HIS BRAKES VERY HARD. I WAS SO CLOSE TO THE DIVIDER THANK GOD I DID NOT SLAM INTO IT OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. ANOTHER MAN CAME OUT WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT DOWN MY CAR. A POLICE OFFICER AND OTHER MEN PUSHED MY CAR TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. ANOTHER INCIDENT, 9/21 AS I PICKED UP MY CAR FROM A MECHANIC THAT REPLACED MY RADIATOR, ON ROUTE 17 MY CAR WAS DRIVING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED AND STALLED. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT BACK ON AND ENTERED A LANDMARK PARKING LOT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT ON NHTSA.GOV THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE CRANK ANGLE SENSOR PARTS: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME MY CAR ENGINE WAS UNABLE TO COOL SO A TOW TRUCK TOOK MY CAR TO MEADOWLANDS NISSAN DEALER IN NJ AND THEY REFUSED TO PERFORM THE "ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING" RECALL CLAIMING THAT THEIR ECM RECALL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TEMPERATURE AND DRIVE-ABILITY. I MENTIONED THAT ON THE GOVERNMENT SITE IT CLEARLY STATES "ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING" BUT THEY STATED THAT NISSAN DEALERS ARE PRIVATE DEALERS AND DO NOT CARE WHAT ANYBODY ELSE SAYS. THE MAN TOLD ME THEY FOLLOW WHATEVER THEY HAVE IN THEIR NISSAN SYSTEM, NOT THE GOVERNMENT. I AM SO OFFENDED THAT MY LIFE WAS ON THE LINE TWICE OVER NISSAN'S HAZARDOUS RECALLS. YET, THEY ARE REFUSING TO MAKE MY CAR A SAFE VEHICLE. I DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANYBODY ELSE I'M ONLY 21 I"M WAY TOO YOUNG TO DIE OVER A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE ENGINE. MY CAR IS STILL AT THE DEALER AND I WANT THEM TO FOLLOW GOVERNMENT RECALLS AND MAKE THEIR VEHICLES SAFE ENOUGH TO DRIVE. *TR
DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF AS I WAS TRYING TO ENTER VEHICLE. ABOUT A YEAR LATER, ANOTHER BROKE OFF. THERE IS SHARP PLASTIC WHERE IT WAS BROKEN AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT CUTTING YOURSELF. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN IT IS NECESSARY TO BE ABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE QUICKLY AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE. IT IS NOT SAFE. *TR
ON 7/29/2013, MY 2004 ALTIMA WAS LOSING POWER, FEELING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY HEADING TOWARDS WORK. THE ISSUE WAS DOING THE SAME ON THE WAY HOME AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK CAR INTO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC RAN A TEST AND IT SAID I HAD A MISFIRE ON NUMBER 4 SPARK PLUG. HE PULLED OUT THE PLUG AND GAP WAS PUSHED TOGETHER. ALL FOUR SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. THE CAR RAN FINE UNTIL LATER THAT NIGHT AND THE SAME ISSUE WAS HAPPENING AGAIN. TOOK BACK TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. HE GOT THE SAME READING, MISFIRE IN SPARK PLUG 4. HE PULLED OUT SPARK PLUG AND THE GAP WAS PUSHED TOGETHER. WE LOOKED UP TO SEE WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS. WE FOUND OTHER WERE HAVING A ISSUE OF A SCREW CAN COME LOOSE FROM THE POWER VALVE INTAKE. HE TOLD ME TO TAKE TO DEALERSHIP WHICH I DID ON 8/4/2013. THEY DID THEIR OWN TEST AND EVEN SCOOP THE ENGINE AND DEALER FOUND THAT THERE WAS A SCREW MISSING. THEY FOUND THE SCREW MISSING HAD COME FROM THE POWER VALVE INTAKE IN THE POWER VALVE. EVEN FOUND PART OF THE PLATE HAS BROKEN AND ENTERED THE ENGINE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL ON SUCH ISSUE. SINCE I PURCHASE THE CAR IN 2011, NOT SURE IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF. BUT SINCE IT HAPPEN I DON'T THINK THEY DID. THE RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS P5202. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE GOING 60-65 MPH, WITH MY GIRLFRIEND AND MY NEWBORN DAUGHTER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE CAR SHUT OFF AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITH A RIVER OF TRAFFIC SURROUNDING AROUND ME. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE CAR FINALLY STARTED BACK UP & RAN FINE. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR BECAME HARDER TO START AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF ON THE INTERSTATE ONCE AGAIN. I GOT THE ENGINE CODE, CHECKED OUT AND IT WAS P0340 (CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR). UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON NATIONWIDE PROBLEM. NOT ONLY DOES THE ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING, IT COMPLETELY CAUSES THE MOTOR TO SHUT OFF! THE MOTOR IN A VEHICLE SHUTTING OFF WHILE GOING DOWN A JAMMED INTERSTATE OR GOING ACROSS RAILROAD TRACKS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO NOT GET RECOGNIZED. AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS HORRIBLE SITUATION, AND VIEWING THE COUNTLESS PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED IT AS WELL. I AM FLABBERGASTED THE CAM/CRANKSHAFT SENSOR FOR THE 2002-2005 ALTIMA HAS YET TO BE RECALLED. THE CHANCE OF THE PART BEING DEFICIENT IS ABNORMALLY HIGH. THE PART IS INCAPABLE OF PERFORMING IT PURPOSE, BECAUSE ONCE REPAIRED IT CONTINUOUSLY HAS TO BE REPLACED. NISSAN DOES STATE THAT THIS IS A DEFICIENT PART AND THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT. BUT A SERVICE BULLETIN DOES NOT DO ANYONE ANY JUSTICE WHEN THE SENSORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED ONCE A YEAR!! *TR
THE IGNITION COILS KEEP BLISTERING AND BUBBLING/MELTING AFTER REPLACING NEW ONES. IT IS NEVER ENDING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS HAD BECOME CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000. *TR
THE POWER STEERING LAST WEEK HAS STARTED TO TIGHTEN UP IN PLACES. WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL, THERE IS A HARD SPOT THAT THE WHEEL SEEMS TO GET "STUCK" OR "CATCH" AT. I TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE STEERING RACK WOULD MOST LIKELY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I DID MORE RESEARCH ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE IN NISSAN ALTIMA VEHICLES. THE MECHANIC ALSO TOLD ME HIS 2003 ALTIMA HAD TO HAVE THE SAME REPAIR LAST YEAR ABOUT THIS TIME. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE APARTMENT BUT IT WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 10 MILES PER HOUR. THERE WAS NO SMELL OR NOISE AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD STARTED THE CAR TODAY. I RETURNED HOME, TURNED OFF THE CAR FOR A SHORT TIME, RESTARTED AND IT RAN FINE IN THE PARKING LOT. *TR
HAD OIL CHANGE. WHILE ON THE LIFT,THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE UNDERBODY UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS ROTTED. WENT ON LINE AND FOUND PAGES OF PEOPLE REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT AND SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAY'S ON ALL THE TIME WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING
MY AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR !
DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOORBOARDS ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND WILL NEED TO GET REPAIRED. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE SOMEONE CAN EASILY BREAK THRU IT AND INJURE THEMSELVES. I BELIEVE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND NISSAN SHOULD DO A RECALL ON THIS CAR BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND IT SHOULDN'T GET THIS RUSTED OUT IN ONLY 9 YEARS. *TR
THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PAN HAS STARTED TO RUST COMPLETELY OUT. THE FLOOR PAN IS STARTING TO FALL OUT AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF A PASSENGER WERE TO PUT TOO MUCH WEIGHT ON THE FLOOR, THEIR FOOT WOULD FALL THROUGH. THEM FALLING THROUGH COULD RESULT IN THEM CONTACTING THE ROAD SURFACE WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR RECEIVING CUTS TO THEIR LEG FROM THE RUST. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THIS GENERATION OF ALTIMA AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. *TR
IN DEC 2012, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS DAMAGED AND WAS REMOVED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT WOULD HAPPEN. LESS THAN 30 DAYS LATER, BUTTERFLY VALVE AND 2 SCREWS WERE SUCKED THROUGH ENGINE'S INTAKE. DEALER TOLD ME CAMERA INSERTED INTO ENGINE AND SCREWS NOT FOUND BUT DUE TO BUTTERFLY VALVE, SCREWS AND PLATE MISSING SO DIAGNOSIS WAS SUCKED IN THROUGH INTAKE DUE TO MASSIVE DAMAGE TO ENGINE. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH ZERO MILES ON 2/28/04 AND HAD IT SERVICED (OIL CHANGE) APPROX EVERY 3 MONTHS AT AUTOWAY NISSAN CLEARWATER, FL. THE CAR RAN PERFECTLY, AND AS YOU CAN SEE, 87,000 FOR A 9 YEAR OLD VEHICLE IS EXCEPTIONAL. THE CAR WAS IN PERFECT SHAPE AND RUNNING SMOOTHLY EVEN AFTER THE CAT WAS REMOVED. THERE WAS NO OTHER EVENT TO COINCIDE WITH MY ENGINE BLOWING UP. DEALER NEVER MENTIONED ANY RECALL, WANTED $5000 TO FIX ENGINE ONLY, NO CONVERTER REPLACEMENT MENTIONED. WAS TOLD TO FORGET ABOUT THE CAR. DEALER OFFERED ME $500 AND A NEW CAR. I'M A SINGLE MOM WITH 2 KIDS IN COLLEGE. HAVING TO USE MY ENTIRE TAX RETURN TO FIX THE CAR AS CANNOT AFFORD A CAR PAYMENT. NOT A HAPPY CONSUMER. WAS A LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR 9 YEARS. DO I HAVE ANY RECOURSE? IS THERE A CLASS ACTION SUIT IN THE WORKS? *TR
MY WIFE'S 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA FLOOR BOARD ON PASSENGER SIDE IS ROTTED OUT. TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN DEALER WERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND THE THE MANAGER FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT A JACK MADE THE PROBLEM. NOT TRUE A LOT OF NISSAN ALTIMA THIS YEAR AND OLDER HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR HAD 75000 MILES ON IT AND THE HOLE WAS THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL NOW IT'S ABOUT OVER A FOOT LONG BY A FOOT WIDE. WHAT CAN I DO TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS MAJOR PROBLEM. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
WHILE TAKING MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE (@ DEALER) DUE TO ADDRESS A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CATALYTIC CONVERTER), THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOOK ME OUT TO MY CAR TO POINT OUT 2 LARGE RUST AREAS - 1 EACH ON THE DRIVER/PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS. THE ENTIRE REST OF THE CAR UNDERCARRIAGE HAS PRACTICALLY ZERO RUST. THE CAR WAS DEALER MAINTAINED FOR THE FIRST 5 YEARS AND OFF AND ON FOR THE LAST FOUR YEARS, BUT ALWAYS WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE (OIL CHANGES, COOLANT/TRANSMISSION FLUSHES, ETC.) AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR, I USED THE COMPLIMENTARY VEHICLE INSPECTION - WHICH DOES NOT SPECIFICALLY CALL OUT RUST, BUT IT HAD TO BE OBVIOUS. RUST LIKE THAT DOES NOT JUST APPEAR OVER NIGHT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT I WAS NOT ADVISED OF THIS SOONER - IN FACT IT WAS NOT POINTED OUT AT A DEALER INSPECTION JUST 3 MONTHS EARLIER. SINCE I DO NOT PERFORM THE CAR MAINTENANCE I WOULD HAVE NO OTHER WAY OF NOTICING, UNLESS I SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED SOME KIND OF RUST INSPECTION -- OR ASKED TO GO LOOK AT MY VEHICLE EVERY TIME IT WAS IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE OR OTHER MAINTENANCE. READING THROUGH THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS BOARD AND THE INTERNET IN GENERAL, I'VE COME TO FIND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM -- SEEMINGLY ATTRIBUTED TO A FAULTY DESIGN RELATED TO A DRAIN PLUG. WHEN THERE IS PRACTICALLY ZERO RUST ELSEWHERE, YOU CANNOT CLAIM THIS TO BE THE FAULT OF THE OWNER. I WAS NOT PLANNING ON GETTING RID OF THIS CAR FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER YEAR OR TWO, BUT NOW AM FORCED TO START LOOKING. THE REPAIR COST IS NOT WORTH THE VALUE OF THE CAR (BASED ON MILEAGE). WHILE I WOULD HAVE ONCE PURCHASED A NEW NISSAN WITH NO HESITATION (BASED ON MY ALTIMA'S RELIABILITY), I NOW AM FORCED TO RECONSIDER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 35 MPH AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, ALTHOUGH THE HAND BRAKE WAS NOT ACTIVATED. THE CAR WOULD NOT STEER OR THE FOOT BRAKE WOULD NOT WORK WITHOUT A LOT OF PRESSURE. ONCE I GOT STOPPED AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK IT STARTED RIGHT UP. 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL REPAIRS RELATED TO REPLACEMENT OF SENSORS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER STATED EVEN THOUGH HE HAD THE RECALL NOTICE AND THERE WAS EXPIRATION DATE, THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WERE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT. *JB

SO WE WENT TO WOODFIELD NISSAN, HOPING THAT THE DEALERSHIP, ALTHOUGH COSTS ALOT MORE, CAN DEAL WITH THE ISSUE BETTER. BUT JUST AS THE 12 MONTH WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE ISSUE PRESENTED ITSELF AGAIN, WE WENT AGAIN TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP - BUT THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THE WARRANTY , EVEN THOUGH IT WAS WITHIN THE MILEAGE (BUT PAST THE 12 MONTHS). WE HAVE NOW SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO TAKE CARE OF THIS CRANK/CRAM SHAFT SENSOR. THE DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD US THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH OUR DRIVING OR CARE, THIS ISSUE WILL OCCUR EVERY YEAR OR SO AND WE WILL HAVE TO GET IT REPAIRED OR CAR WILL STALL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT WE CAN PAY THEM TO TAKE OUR CAR TOTALLY APART AND THEN THEY CAN TRY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM - BUT I CANNOT SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SPEND HOURS LOOKING INTO MY CAR SO THEY CAN MAYBE FIX THE ISSUE. I THOUGHT THIS RATHER ODD. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 68,305 MILES ON IT. IT IS CARED FOR WITH DELUXE WASHING. IT IS KEPT IN A GARAGE. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP. EXCESSIVE PREMATURE RUST ON DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER FLOOR PAN. BOTH ARE ABOUT 5"X10" IN SIZE AND CONSISTENT WITH MOST OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA RUST COMPLAINTS FOR CARS OF SIMILAR AGE. SINCE NOTICING THE RUST I HAVE LOOKED AT DOZENS OF SIMILAR NISSAN ALTIMAS IN STORE PARKING LOTS ALL WITH THE SAME PREMATURE RUST PATTERN. IT APPEARS THAT NISSAN DESIGNED THE FLOOR PANS WITH A DRAIN PLUG WHICH ALLOWS WATER PENETRATION ABOVE THE FLOOR PAN WHERE IT CAUSES RUST. THE REST OF THE FLOOR PAN ON THE ENTIRE VEHICLE IS IN EXCEPTIONALLY PRISTINE SHAPE, BUT DUE TO THE IMPROPERLY DESIGNED/INSTALLED FLOOR PLUGS THE RUST HAS CAUSED HOLES TO DEVELOP IN THE FLOOR PAN AROUND THE FRONT PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. UPON NOTICING THE RUST, I TALKED WITH A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO STATED HE HASN'T SEEN A NISSAN ALTIMA OF SIMILAR AGE IN HIS SHOP THAT DID NOT HAVE IDENTICAL RUST PATTERNS IN THE SAME SPOT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND THE RUST IN THIS ONE AREA AROUND THE DRAIN PLUGS IS INCONSISTENT WITH THE LACK OF RUST EVERYWHERE ELSE. HOLES IN FLOORBOARDS OF LATE MODEL CARS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE MOST CONSUMERS WOULD NEVER SUSPECT THIS WOULD BE AN ISSUE ON LATE MODEL CARS WHICH ARE OTHERWISE NOT SHOWING ANY SIGNS OF RUST. HOLES IN THE FLOORBOARDS CAN ALLOW PENETRATION OF DEADLY EXHAUST FUMES, ESPECIALLY IN STOP AND GO TYPE DRIVING AS WELL AS PERSONAL SAFETY RISK AS THIS WEAKENS THE OVERALL STRENGTH OF THE UNIBODY DESIGN IN A CRASH. ALSO IF UNDETECTED LONG ENOUGH IT CAN CAUSE SEATS TO LOOSEN AND FALL FROM THEIR MOUNTS. I STRONGLY URGE THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD TO ISSUE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL SINCE IT APPEARS THE MANUFACTURER IS UNWILLING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE RISK IT IS PUTTING ON CONSUMERS. *TR

ALSO THE TIMING TENSION CHAIN TENSIONER WENT BAD ON 05/01/12, WITH 86000 MILES AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED WHICH WAS A VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, AND SAW THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE ALTIMA 3.5 L ENGINE. 3 OUT OF 4 DOOR HANDLES ON MY 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA HAVE BROKEN OFF IN THE PAST 2 YEARS. I'VE SEEN MANY OTHER ALTIMA'S WITH A SIMILAR SITUATION. EACH OF MY HANDLES SNAPPED RIGHT OFF WITH THE NORMAL FORCE OF OPENING THE DOOR. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY DEFECTIVE WITH HOW THE HANDLES ARE MADE AND/OR ATTACHED TO THE CARS. I'D UNDERSTAND IF ONLY 1 HANDLE BROKE OFF AND I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IT HAPPENED TO BUT WHEN 3 OUT OF 4 BREAK AND I'VE SEEN OVER 20 OTHER CARS IN MY AREA WITH BROKEN HANDLES THEN THERE IS REASON TO BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT AND SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL BY NISSAN. I'VE CALLED NISSAN DEALERSHIPS, CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THE MAIN CORPORATE OFFICE BUT THEY REFUSE TO HELP ME. THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS PERSON HUNG UP OF ME WHILE I WAS STILL SPEAKING.
