DESCRIPTION/ISSUE: MY 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA'S STEERING IS VERY STIFF AND HARD TO TURN. I WOULD LIKE AVOID ANY LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND PREVENT ANY RISK OF CRASHING. I WILL GET THIS FIX IMMEDIATELY BUT WANTED TO OFFICIALLY REPORT THIS. I DID SOME SEARCHING ONLINE AND FOUND OTHERS WHO OWN ALTIMAS HAVE REPORTED AND FOUND VERY SIMILAR ISSUES WITH VERY TIGHT STEERING. PLEASE HELP INVESTIGATE IF NISSAN ALTIMAS HAVE STEERING DEFECTS TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS? PLEASE HELP INVESTIGATE IF THERE IS A MANDATORY RECALL BY THE MANUFACTURER. PLEASE NOTE - I HAVE CONFIRMED NISSAN FRONTIER MODELS HAVE ALREADY STARTED THE RECALL. THE ALTIMA PROBLEM I HAVE DESCRIBED ABOVE IS THE SAME. SINCERELY, CONCERNED ALTIMA CONSUMER
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA THAT I TAKE GOOD CARE OF. I DON'T DRIVE IT IN THE WINTER SO IT DOESN'T SEE MUCH SALT.I RECENTLY NOTICED RUST HOLES IN BOTH MY DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGERS SIDE FLOORBOARDS WHICH IS RIDICULOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE CONSIDERING THE CAR IS BARELY SEVEN YEARS OLD AND SO WELL TAKEN CARE OF.MY OPINION IS THAT THE METAL USED IS FAR TOO THIN AND THAT IT IS A FLAWED DESIGN.NISSAN SHOULD RECALL ALL OF THESE ALTIMAS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND MAKE IT RIGHT.I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN AGAIN... *TR
2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR EXPENSES INCURRED FOR RECALL REPAIRS *TGW THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS STALLING AND HESITATING AT RANDOM. *JB
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S, I HAVE BEEN HAVING STEERING PROBLEMS AND HAVE HAD 3 MECHANICS LOOK AT IT AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE STEERING. WHEN I TAKE TURNS IT IS REALLY TIGHT, I HAVE TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL BACK MYSELF. I TRIED EMAILING NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA, THEY DID NOT RESPOND, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM FROM WHAT I READING ONLINE. THERE HAS TO BE A WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, PLEASE HELP ME FIND A WAY. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE. THERE IS ALSO A CREAKING SOUND ON THE LEFT SIDE IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR THAT STARTED AT THE SAME TIME AS THE STEERING PROBLEM. THIS STEERING PROBLEM OCCURS WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE. I HAVE HAD THE SWAY BAR LINKS CLEANED THINKING IT WAS THAT , BUT THAT DID NOT WORK A FEW MECHANICS INCLUDING A NISSAN MECHANIC CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG. *TR
WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A LIGHT I NOTICED THE LIGHTS DIM IN THE REFLECTION OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I ALSO SAW A RED LIGHT ON THE DASH WHICH I HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE NEAR THE TOP ABOVE THE GEAR INDICATOR. THEN WHEN I APPROACHED THE RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY I NOTICED THE LIGHTS DIM AGAIN AS MY RPM'S DROPPED BELOW 1000. ALL WAS FINE ON THE HIGHWAY AND I GOT OFF AT AN EXIT NEAR MY HOUSE WHEN SLOWING TO MAKE A LEFT ON MY ROAD THE CAR JUST COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. COMPLETELY DEAD ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OFF NO RADIO NO HEAT NOTHING! I SHIFTED IT OUT OF GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND IT WOULDN'T EVEN TURN OVER TRIED TO TURN MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND THEY DID NOT WORK EITHER. I COULD NOT SHIFT IT OUT OF N/D WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THIS WAS AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE AS I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED AND PISSED OFF A NUMBER OF PEOPLE AS I WAS IN A DARK INTERSECTION FOR ALMOST 5 MINUTES IN A BLACK CAR. I TRIED TURNING THE KEY BACK AND FORTH AND NOTHING HAPPENED ? IT WAS ONLY ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER THAT I COULD HEAR SOME ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY (THE KEY WAS IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION) AND THEN SOME LIGHTS ON THE DASH AND ABOUT THIRTY SECONDS LATER I COULD START THE CAR AND GO ON MY WAY. ALL ELECTRICAL SETTINGS WERE RESET TO FACTORY DEFAULTS ALL RADIO PRESETS ETC THE RADIO AND HEAT WERE POWERED OFF. *TR
2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. CAR WAS HARD TO START AND EVENTUALLY WOULDN'T START. CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED. MANY COMPLAINTS POSTED ONLINE WITH A NISSAN CAMPAIGN FOR SOME YEARS BUT NOT THE 2004. WIDER CAMPAIGN SHOULD BE DONE. ONLY 26,000 MILES ON AUTO. *TR
TL-*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER IT STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THERE WAS A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AND USUALLY WHEN THE WEATHER WAS COLD. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
HEAD ON COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. I WAS TRAVELING 15MPH AND THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 30MPH! THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED... *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ENTERING HIS VEHICLE IN COLD WEATHER, THE VEHICLE WOULD CRANK BUT NOT ACTUALLY START UP. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE LOOSE WIRES TO THE CRANK SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER HE WENT TO THE DEALER, THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HIS MOTOR HAD BLOWN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HIS HOME AND THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH CATALYTIC CONVERTER *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED SHE WILL HAVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED AT HER EXPENSE, BECAUSE NISSAN CLAIMED IT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED YET. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMERS MECHANIC STATED IT WAS GOING BAD AND COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. *JB
RUSTED FLOOR BOARDS IN PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE. IN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF 2001-2005 NISSAN ALTIMA FLOOR BOARDS DUE TO A DRAINAGE PLUG THAT WAS NOT PROPERLY SEALED. CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK AFTER THEY SAID I WOULD GET A CALL BACK. THE RUSTED OUT FLOOR PANS CAN BECOME A HAZARD IF NOT TAKEN CARE OF, BUT IF YOU DON'T HAPPEN TO SEE THEM THEN YOU WILL NOT NO THEY ARE THERE. MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE FOUND; IT SEEMS THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS HAVE RUSTED ALL THEY WAY THROUGH TO THE MAIN CABIN. I AM AFRAID THAT IF PEOPLE NEVER CHECK FOR THIS PROBLEM, IT WILL PROGRESSIVELY RUST THROUGH AND AFFECT YOUR SEATS AND EVERYTHING THAT IS THERE. LOOKS LIKE NISSAN NORTH AMERICA WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM! THEY DON'T CARE! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO FURTHER DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START UNTIL AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS WERE MADE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT THEN ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS, WHO STATED THAT THE CRANK AND CAM SHAFT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED EIGHT DIFFERENT TIMES BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V242000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MY 04 NISSAN ALTIMA V6 ONE DAY BEGAN TO BUCK WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. I MADE IT HOME, THEN WHEN I WENT TO START IT WOULDN'T. BASICALLY EVER SINCE THAT DAY IT'S BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM W/ NOT STARTING, SHUTTING OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AND COMPLETELY LOCKING UP MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL OVER AND DANGEROUS. AT ONE POINT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I AM THE MOTHER OF AN INFANT SO UNTIL I FIND A RESOLUTION I NEED TO BORROW CARS TO TRAVEL WITH HIM. I HAVE REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR AND THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WHICH WERE THE CODES THAT CAME UP AND STILL I CANNOT DRIVE MY CAR. I THEN RESEARCHED MY MAKE/MODEL/YEAR AND FOUND I WAS NOT ALONE. MANY OTHERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME ISSUES AND HAVE YET TO REACH A RESOLUTION AND APPARENTLY NISSAN IS NOT DECLARING A RECALL ON 2004'S BUT HAVE ON "02" AND "03" WHICH HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUES. I DO NOT WANT TO CONTINUE TO BUY PARTS AND TRY TO FIX SOMETHING THAT IS DEFECTIVE AS I READ MANY OTHERS HAVE DONE. I PLAN ON CONTACTING THE BBB AND TAKING IT FROM THERE BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. SO HERE I AM MAKING PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE FOR MY CHILD AND I AND NO ANSWERS ON WHY THESE CARS ARE MALFUNCTIONING AND CONTINUING TO READ CAMSHAFT...ETC EVEN AFTER BEING REPLACED???? 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA ENGINE FAILURE AFTER ONLY 35,000 MILES. THE ENGINE CONSUMES TOO MUCH OIL (LEAVING SLUDGE AND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE PAN). TOOK TO DEALER BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. WAS INITIALLY TOLD THAT THE OIL NEED TO BE CHANGED (CHANGED PRIOR TO THIS EVENT APPROX. 3,500 MILES BEFORE THIS EVENT). WAS CHARGED $2,300.00 FOR OIL CHANGE AND OTHER MAINTENANCE. HAD TO TAKE THE CAR BACK BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON AGAIN. WAS TOLD THE ENGINE WAS NO GOOD AND TO GET RID OF THE CAR. THIS COULD CAUSE OVERHEATING AND FIRE. MY RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT SOME 2002 & OTHER YEAR NISSAN ALTIMA'S HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS OFFERED ABSOLUTELY NO HELP OR OFFERS OF ANY KIND. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS STRUNG ME ALONG FOR ALMOST TWO MONTHS AND THEN WITH A PHONE CALL (AFTER I TRIED TO CONTACT THEM SEVERAL TIMES FOR UPDATES TO NO AVAIL, I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. WAS TOLD TO EITHER PURCHASE NEW ENGINE ($4,500) OR GET RID OF THE CAR BY THE DEALER. PRIOR TO THIS THE CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED, ESPECIALLY OIL CHANGES. THE CAR IS 1 YEAR OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD. *TR
2004 NISSAN ALTIMA 5 SPD MANUAL CLUTCH. LAST WEDNESDAY I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND NOTICED THE CLUTCH WAS GETTING LOWER AND LOWER TO THE FLOOR. I MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION BUT WHEN I RETURNED TO MY CAR TO LEAVE, I PRESSED ON THE CLUTCH AND IT JUST STAY DOWN ON THE FLOOR. AFTER THE CAR COOL IT SEEMED TO WORK PROPERLY THE NEXT DAY BUT NOW IT IS HARD TO GO INTO 1ST GEAR AND THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE TO GO INTO 2ND ALL OTHER GEARS SEEM OKAY. CURRENTLY I HAVE ONLY SEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND THERE APPEARS TO BE MANY. I DO NOT HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR A MECHANIC BILL, ACTUALLY TODAY I ONLY HAVE 15.00 TO MY NAME. THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS TO GET TO MY JOB THAT PAYS HALF MY BILLS AND AT THIS TIME I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. *TR
CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. CAR ALSO DOESN'T START UP RIGHT AWAY. TRIED TO BRING IT TO NISSAN BUT THEY SAID MY VIN# WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE WELL KNOWN RECALL (CAMSHAFT SENSOR). BS IF YOU ASK ME! THEY'RE GOING TO PUT PEOPLES LIVES AT RISK. SO I WENT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS STORE AND GOT THE CODE READ AND IT WAS A P-03040 WHICH WAS A CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MALFUNCTION. I GOOGLED A BIT AND FOUND OUT THERE'S PLENTY OF PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I EVEN CALLED NISSAN AND THEY DIDN'T WANT TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. OUTRAGEOUS DIAGNOSTIC FEE ALSO. $105 JUST TO PLUG IN A OBD READER. YOU CAN BUY YOUR OWN OBD READER FOR THAT PRICE. OR JUST GO TO YOUR LOCAL AUTO STORE AND GET IT CHECKED FOR FREE!!! NOT HAPPY. 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA POWER VALVE SCREW MISSING CAUSING ENGINE TO MISFIRE, STALLING AND SHUTTING OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, VERY SCARY SINCE THE WHOLE FAMILY WAS IN CAR, ENGINE HARD TO START. *TR

PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THERE WAS A RECALL 06V242000 FOR THE ECM SENSOR (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
2004 ALTIMA CLUTCH LOOSES PRESSURE AND UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE YET THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND BEGAN TO LOSE ENGINE POWER. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN RESTARTING, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE A SPARK PLUG WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BUTTERFLY SCREWS FRACTURED FROM THE POWER VALVES AND BECAME LODGED INTO THE CYLINDERS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
A DEFECTIVE STEERING UNIVERSAL ASSEMBLY. OCCURRED SUDDENLY. I COULD BARELY STEER THE CAR. VERY DANGEROUS . THANK GOODNESS IT HAPPENED IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY.58,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I WROTE NISSAN CANADA ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY CONTACTED ME BY TELEPHONE. I WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN DIDN'T CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM, THE REPAIR COST ME $539.00. IT'S NOT THE REPAIR COST THAT IS IMPORTANT, IT'S THE DANGER TO THE PUBLIC; NOT ONLY TO THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE, BUT TO THIRD PARTIES. I HAVE SINCE L,EARNED OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. IT IS JUST ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
PROBLEM VEHICLE IS 2004 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH 80,000 MILES. NOTICED WHEN PULLING OUT OF DRIVEWAY AFTER CAR HAD SIT OVERNIGHT IN GARAGE THAT STEERING WHEEL WAS BINDING WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE VEHICLE. DURING THE COURSE OF THE DRIVE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BIND BOTH DURING TURNING AND WHEN RETURNING TO STRAIGHT. THE BINDING CAUSED EXTRA EFFORT (REQUIRING BOTH HANDS) TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND ALSO REQUIRED EXTRA EFFORT TO RETURN THE WHEELS TO STRAIGHT BECAUSE THE BINDING PREVENTED THE WHEELS FROM RETURNING TO STRAIGHT ON THEIR OWN. THE BINDING WAS BAD ENOUGH THAT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE EFFORT REQUIRED TO TURN THE WHEEL AND THE DIFFICULTY IN STRAIGHTENING THE WHEELS TO STOP TURNING. THE BINDING FORCE WAS INTERMITTENT AND SEEMED TO BE RELATED TO CERTAIN PLACES IN THE ORIENTATION OF THE WHEEL. AFTER RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I DISCOVERED THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH SIMILAR YEAR AND MODEL OF CAR AND THEY ALL REFERENCED THE LOWER UNIVERSAL JOINT IN THE STEERING LINKAGE AS THE PROBLEM PART (NISSAN PART 48080-8J000). WHEN I REMOVED THE PART IT WAS RUSTY AND EXTREMELY TIGHT (I WILL HOLD ONTO THE OLD PART IN CASE ANYONE WANTS TO SEE IT OR USE IT AS EVIDENCE). THE REPLACEMENT PART WAS BACK ORDERED BY NISSAN WHEN I ORDERED IT FROM THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SELLING LOTS OF THIS PART AND THE PART HAS BEEN TAKING A FEW DAYS TO TWO WEEKS TO ARRIVE DUE TO HIGH DEMAND. CLEARLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THIS PART. WHEN I FINALLY GOT THE NEW PART (48080-8J000 LOWER STEERING U-JOINT) AND INSTALLED IT THE STEERING WORKED SMOOTHLY AGAIN. *TR
JUST AS DOZENS OTHERS HAVE ALREADY FILED AS COMPLAINTS I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE CAMSHAFT/CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. ORIGINALLY THIS SENSOR WENT BAD IN JUNE, 2008 AT 49,000 MILES. I HAD THE SENSOR REPLACED AND THE ECM REPROGRAMMED ACCORDING RECALL 06V242000. I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND FILED A COMPLAINT AND AFTER SOME BACK AND FORTH THEY AGREED TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR (APPROX. $500). ON MARCH 3RD, 2010 AT 70,885 THE CAR WOULD NOT START SO I HAD IT TOWED TO A CERTIFIED REPAIR SHOP WHO DIAGNOSED IT WITH A BAD CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AGAIN. THE REPAIR COST ME $265. CLEARLY THERE IS A CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THESE SENSORS AND REPROGRAMMING THE ECM IS NOT A PROPER FIX. APPARENTLY EVEN REPLACING THE SENSOR ONCE (BY A NISSAN DEALER) DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. NISSAN NEEDS TO STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR POOR CHOICE IN COMPONENTS AND PROVIDE A PERMANENT SOLUTION AND COMPENSATION FOR AFFECTED CONSUMERS.
