THE CAR STALLED OUT... ALMOST GOT HIT.... HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED..LOOKED ONLINE AND SAW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS YEAR MODEL AND PART...GOT IN TOUCH WITH NISSAN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR VIN..FROM WHAT I READ ALL NISSAN ALTIMA'S WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PART..I ALSO DID NOT RECEIVE NOTICE. CAN SOMEONE CHECK THIS VIN AST SAFERCAR.GOV AND LET ME KNOW ...THANK YOU...PS THIS CAR HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE AND IS WELL MAINTAINED. *TR
DURING MY RI STATE INSPECTION TODAY, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY DRIVER SIDE FLOOR BOARD WAS COMPLETED ROTTED THROUGH. MY CAR WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION WITHOUT FIXING THAT. THE CAR IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD SO HAVING THAT MUCH ROT IS VERY UNUSUAL. WILL NISSAN REPAIR THIS DAMAGE OR REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF REPAIR? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE AND THEY NOTICED THERE WAS A HOLE COVERED WITH RUST ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,817.
BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS HAVE ROTTED THROUGH. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 ALTIMA SE-R 3.5 V6 I WAS LEAVING A MCDONALD'S PARKING LOT AND AS SOON AS I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE THERE WAS A HARD JERK AND THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY. THE CAR REVERSED AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS AND WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE A HARD JERK AND THE CAR WAS IN 5TH GEAR. NO OTHER GEARS WERE AVAILABLE. I PARKED THE CAR AND SHUT IF OFF...AFTER A FEW SECONDS I STARTED IT BACK UP AND THREW IT IN REVERSE AND GOT THE SAME RESULT, I PUT IT IN DRIVE THEN TIPTRONIC AND SAW A 5 (5TH GEAR). I CALLED A COUPLE FRIENDS AND MECHANICS THEY SAID IT A FAIL SAFE. SO I WAITED AGAIN AND TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR AND IT TOOK A GOOD 10-15 SECONDS TO CRANK AND AFTER I REVERSED THE CAR WOULD DIE. I WAS ONLY TRYING TO GET HOME (1 MIKE DOWN THE ROAD) BECAUSE I DID NOT TRUST THIS CAR TO BRING ME ANYWHERE AT THIS POINT. AFTER A COUPLE START THEN SHUT DOWNS AND LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR RUNNING AND DRIVING IN ALL THE GEARS. I GOT ON THE BOULEVARD AND I WAS GOING ABOUT 20-30 AND THE CAR DIES ON ME. LUCKILY IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND THE WAS NO TRAFFIC. I RESTART THE CAR AND ITS RUNNING IN 5TH GEAR FOR ABOUT 10-15 SECONDS AND THEN I SEE MY RPMS GOING UP AS SPEED GOING DOWN. THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT ENGAGING AND I KNEW SOMETHING WAS DEFINITELY WRONG AT THIS POINT. I PULL TO THE SIDE AND POP THE HOOD, THE WAS SO MUCH HEAT BUT THE CAR WAS NOT OVERHEATING. I CALL MY MECHANIC AND HE SAYS LET IT SIT A BIT. 20 MINUTES LATER, CAR COOLED DOWN A BIT AND A RELIABLE FRIEND AND MECHANIC COME HELP ME PUSH THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT. WE LATER FIND OUT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. FLUID WAS STILL RED, NOT BURNED BUT SOMETHING ELSE WAS GOING ON INSIDE. $2000+ LATER AND A REPLACEMENT TRANNY THE CAR IS UP BUT STILL DYING AT RANDOM TIMES, WON'T START. DIAGNOSIS CRANK AND CAMSHAFT SENSORS. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO GOES STRAIGHT TO 5TH GEAR AND CAR STALLS IN TRAFFIC. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD WAS CORRODED. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,279.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RECURRENTLY FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE REPAIR MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED THAT FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), HOWEVER THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
I HAVE RUST HOLES IN THE FLOOR PANEL OF MY 2005 ALTIMA. IT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AND WHILE DRIVING THE HOLE IS BIG ENOUGH THAT I CAN FEEL IT UNDER MY FOOT THROUGH THE CARPET. I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC ABOUT A FIX AND HE SAID HE HAS DONE ABOUT 8-10 OF THESE CARS FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. LOOKING ONLINE, THIS IS A COMMON FLAW THAT MANY ALTIMA OWNERS HAVE AND IT IS AN INCREDIBLE SAFETY CONCERN. THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST NISSAN BASED ON THE RESPONSES THEY ARE GIVING PEOPLE WHO ARE ASKING THEM FOR HELP WITH THE REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER AND OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WOULD NEED TO REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V527000 SUMMARY: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE, THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT CAUSING A BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR WITH REGARD TO ABOVE RECALL DETAILS, WHEN I PROVIDED THE VIN TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP, THEY DON'T SEE ANY RECALLS FOR IT. FLOORBOARDS ON NISSAN COMPLETELY RUSTED FROM OUTSIDE IN. CARPETING INSIDE OF CAR STILL LOOKS LIKE NEW. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON VEHICLES OF THIS YEAR, BUT NISSAN CONSUMER COMPLAINTS WILL NOT COVER COST OF REPAIR. PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN MAY 2006 - WAS 2005 MODEL. SUMMER 2009 PUT A BIKE HITCH ON CAR AND MUFFLER BOLTS WERE RUSTED BUT UNDERSIDE OF CAR STILL LOOKED GREAT. MUFFLER STILL ON THE CAR, BUT FLOORBOARDS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. ALMOST $2000 TO REPAIR. CAR WAS NEVER IN ACCIDENT, NEVER IN FLOOD AND ALWAYS CLEANED AND MAINTAINED. I FOUND A PIECE, ALMOST A SHEET OF RUST ON THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE. UNDERCOATING ON THE PIECE WAS STILL THERE, BUT RUST COULDN'T HOLD IT TOGETHER ANY LONGER. WHEN POINTED OUT WHAT THIS ACTUALLY WAS SHOCKED. FEET ON THE PAVEMENT WHEN DRIVING WAS THE NEXT STEP. THE FIRST TIME CAR STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE SECOND TIME IT STOPPED RUNNING WHILE TURNING AND THE STEER GOT REAL STIFF. THANK GOD THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT BUT IT WAS REAL SCARY!!! *TR
NISSAN IS GARAGE KEPT WITH NO RUST ON VEHICLE. MUFFLER ON SINCE 2006 AND FLOORBOARDS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH - MUFFLER STILL GOOD. CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER. PAID DEALER $1755 TO REPAIR SINCE CHEAPER THAN NEW CAR AND WILL DRIVE UNTIL WHEELS FALL OFF. SINCE NO INJURIES YET, IS THIS THE REASON NOTHING IS BEING DONE. CAR FELT HOT EVEN AFTER SITTING AND WHEN WEATHER WAS COOL. CAR CUT OFF ON ME AT A STOPLIGHT, AND ANOTHER TIME WHILE STOPPED. CAR SEEMED TO SLIP GEARS A FEW TIMES. *TR
PROBLEM BEGUN BY MY VEHICLE BEING HARD TO START. YOU COULD ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR FOR 5 OR SO MINUTES WITHOUT SUCCESS. YOU COULD WAIT ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND TRY AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD EVENTUALLY START BUT RUN PRETTY ROUGH. IT WOULD ALSO PERFORM WITH POOR POWER DURING OPERATION. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE WHEN THE "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON. NOW THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 4 TO 5 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE ENGINE WILL RE-START BUT RUNS ROUGH. I'M AFRAID THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AT THE WRONG PLACE AND TIME MY WIFE AND FAMILY CAN BE HURT OR KILLED. I READ A RECALL ON DEFECT OF THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR WHICH CAUSES THE IDENTICAL SYMPTOMS THAT MY CAR HAS BUT WHEN I TOOK IT TO CANNON NISSAN AT JACKSON MS. THE AIRBAG SUDDENLY CAME ON WHILE PARKED. ALSO, THE LIGHT INDICATING THAT A PASSENGER IS SEATED DOES NOT REGISTER THAT PERSON. DEALERSHIP SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. *TR
NOTICED FLOOR PAN ON PASSENGER SIDE OF MY 2005 ALTIMA HAS RUSTED OUT. THE HOLE IS CLEAN THROUGH TO THE INSIDE OF CAR. APPROXIMATE 8" HOLE. *TR
BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR STATE INSPECTION TO LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE FLOOR BOARDS WERE TOO SOFT TO PASS INSPECTION. INSPECTED THE VEHICLE MORE CLOSELY MYSELF AND NOTICED THE FLOOR BOARDS HAD BEEN ROTTING. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 85K ON IT. HEARD THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH A LOT OF NISSAN ALTIMAS AND FELT I SHOULD REPORT THIS SINCE NISSAN HAS DONE LITTLE OR NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD SINCE I'M NOT ONE OF THE FLINTSTONES. *TR
THE FLOOR BOARDS ON MY CAR ARE RUSTED THROUGH. I HAVE HAD IT ESTIMATED AT MULTIPLE AUTO BODY SHOPS AND THEY KNEW BEFORE SEEING THE CAR THAT IT WAS A NISSAN. I DID LOTS OF ONLINE RESEARCH AND IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND DEFECT WITH THE NISSANS. I ALSO SAW THAT AFTER FILING THIS COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA, THAT SOME CUSTOMERS HAD THIS PROBLEM REPAIRED BY NISSAN AT NO COST. THIS IS A WIDESPREAD SAFETY ISSUE AND NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS GARAGED AND REGULARLY WASHED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 ALTIMA WITH 49500 MILES. WHEN I RECENTLY GOT NEW TIRES, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FLOORBOARD WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, WHETHER ITS FUMES GETTING INTO THE CAR OR DEBRIS FROM THE FLOORBOARD FALLING IN THE ROAD. I CONTACTED NISSAN NATIONAL AND THEY SENT ME TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO GET AN ESTIMATE AND HAVE IT SENT TO NISSAN NATIONAL. NISSAN NATIONAL SAID MY ISSUE WOULD GO TO NISSAN CONSUMER REVIEW, WHO DECIDED THE FLOORBOARD RUSTING OUT WAS ENVIRONMENTAL. ARE CAR OWNERS IN WINTRY STATES FOREWARNED THAT IF THEY HAVE A NISSAN THE FLOORBOARDS MIGHT RUST OUT? MY CAR IS CLEAN WITH NO OTHER RUST. *TR

I HAVE NISSAN ALTIMA 2005. I TOOK MY CAR TO GET INSPECTED AND IT FAILED DUE TO RUST AND ROTTING UNDER THE CAR. NISSAN, DOES NOT REPAIR THIS. IN DOING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OF INDIVIDUALS ONLINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MODELS FROM 02 - 06. ALL OF JAPANESE CARS WILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAD MY CAR FROM 05 BRAND NEW, I'M THE ONLY OWNER WITH NO ACCIDENTS. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD DO A RECALL ON ALL CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, EQUIPPED WITH VREDESTEIN TIRES (N/A), LINE ULTRAK TECNARA (N/A), SIZE: 225/45/18. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE SIDEWALL ON THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BECAME SEPARATED. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND THE WEATHER WAS EXTREMELY HOT. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE FAILED TIRE WITH THE SPARE HOWEVER, THE SIDEWALL ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE ALSO BECAME SEPARATED. THE RETAILER WHERE THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE DUE TO AN EXPIRED WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,100. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
OWNER OF 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. TWO WEEKS AGO MECHANIC HAD UP ON RACK FOR OIL CHANGE. BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION SIGNIFICANT RUSTING OF BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PANS. I CALLED NISSAN AND FILED A CLAIM, BUT VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. WHILE THEY WERE SORRY TO HEAR I WAS HAVING THIS PROBLEM, THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. THE NISSAN REPRESENTATIVE I TALKED TO SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT DUE TO THE NUMBER OF POSTS ON NHTSB WEBSITE AND OTHER BLOGS. IT IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT LEADS TO A SAFETY ISSUE. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD STAND BEHIND THIS REPAIR. *TR
RECENTLY WHILE GETTING NEW TIRES INSTALLED AT A TIRE SHOP, I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE WAS FLOOR PAN RUST ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR. THIS RUST COULDN'T OF HAPPENED OVERNIGHT SINCE THE RUST IS ABOUT TO BREAK THROUGH THE CARPET AS IF IT WERE A 15-20 YR. OLD CAR. THE RUST IS LOCATED IN THE SAME SPOT ON EACH SIDE BY THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FLOOR MATS. ON A SHOP LIFT YOU CAN SEE THAT THE RUST INITIALLY FORMED ON EACH SIDE WHERE THE DRAIN HOLES WERE INSTALLED. AT NISSAN'S REQUEST, I TOOK MY CAR (BOUGHT NEW) TO THE NEAREST NISSAN FOR INSPECTION. MY COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CORPORATE WAS THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON FLOOR PAN RUST AS IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN I.E THE SEAT CAN MALFUNCTION AND ALSO CARBON DIOXIDE COULD GET INSIDE THE CAR. I ALSO MENTIONED THAT I WAS AWARE ANY KIND OF RUST WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THE REASON FOR THE RUST HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LIVING IN HIGH SALT STATE. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THIS HAS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW BY NISSAN AND THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON MAINLY 2ND GEN. ALTIMAS HAVING THIS ADV. FLOOR PAN RUST IN THE EXACT SAME AREAS!! IF THE RUST WAS SPORADIC, THEN SALT WOULD MOST LIKELY BE A CAUSE, AND IF WET SNOWY SHOES WAS THE PROBLEM THEN THERE WOULD BE RUST UNDER THE REAR FLOOR PANS. AS A RESULT, AS NOTED ON THE NISSAN FORUM WEBSITE, A MORE VALID CAUSE IS DESIGN FLAW, DRAIN HOLES WERE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED ALLOWING WATER TO CONGREGATE AND RUST TO FORM. AFTER NISSAN INVESTIGATED MY FILE,THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP. NOT EVEN PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT. I FIND THIS UNBELIEVABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE.THIS 2ND GENERATION ALTIMA FLOOR PAN RUST IS SO COMMON THAT EVEN MY NEIGHBOR'S 05 ALTIMA HAS THE SAME RUST SPOTS AS WELL. WHAT ALSO DISAPPOINTS ME IS THAT I HAVE HAD ALL OF MY OIL CHANGES DONE BY NISSAN AND RUST WAS NEVER MENTIONED ONCE.
WENT TO GET MY FIRST INSPECTION AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR AND IT FAILED AND I COULD NOT GET STICKER. IT FAILED BECAUSE I HAVE LARGE RUST HOLES ON BOTH THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS SIDE FLOOR PANS. ON THE DRIVER SIDE, THE CARPET IS EXPOSED TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH PRESENTS A SAFETY RISK AS MY FOOT COULD GO THROUGH IT WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I WAS STARTING MY CAR ON 03/23/2013 AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL SO I TRIED THREE ADDITIONAL TIMES AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I CALLED NISSAN REGARDING THE RECALL FOR THE CRANKSHAFT ISSUE ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT MY CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR A RECALL AND I HAVE READ SEVERAL POST OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND NISSAN IS NOT OWNING UP TO AND TAKING CARE OF THE ISSUE FURTHERMORE WHEN I AM DRIVING THE ENGINE STARTS TO WANT TO STALL BUT THANKFULLY I WAS GOING AT A DECENT SPEED FOR IT NOT TO DO THAT I DID GO TO HAVE A TEST RAN ON THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND IT CAME BACK TO BE A SPEED CONTROL SENSOR AND CRANKSHAFT I WENT TO O'REILLY'S AUTO PARTS AND WHEN I TOLD THE NISSAN REP HE SAYS THAT THE MACHINE AT O'REILLY'S WAS ONLY TAKING A GUESS BUT I DONT BELIEVE THAT ONE BIT. *TR
I JUST DISCOVERED THAT THE FLOOR BOARDS OF BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE IN THE BOTTOM IS FULLY RUSTED. IT SEEMS AFTER LOOKING ON LINE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY OWNER OF THE 2005 ALTIMA WITH THE SAME ISSUE IN WHICH COULD LEAD TO A SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

VEHICLE WAS IN FOR REPAIR AT LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP FOR CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REPLACEMENT. DURING REPAIR, MECHANIC HAD VEHICLE UP ON LIFT AND NOTED SEVERE RUST TO THE FLOORBOARD AREA OF BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. RUST DAMAGE IS SO SEVERE IT IS RUSTED ALL THE WAY COMPLETELY THROUGH. UPON MY PERSONAL INVESTIGATION VIA THE INTERNET, I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER INDIVIDUALS NOTING THE SAME SEVERE RUST DAMAGE TO THE SAME LOCATION (FLOORBOARD) OF THEIR NISSAN ALTIMAS AS WELL. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY BY NISSAN.

THE WHEEL WELL LINER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CAME LOOSE AND AFTER FLAPPING AGAINST THE TIRE, ROAD, AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT; BECAME TOTALLY DISCONNECTED AND FELL ONTO A COUNTY HIGHWAY. IT WAS REPLACED BY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP'S MECHANICS, AND THREE MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET! *TR
AT 80K MILES, THE 3.5L INFINITY/350Z MOTOR THAT HAS BEEN *VERY* WELL TAKEN CARE OF HAD A KNOWN ISSUE OCCUR WHICH CAUSED THE VALVE TO COME LOOSE IN THE ENGINE. THERE IS A PROBLEM WHERE SOME SCREWS WHICH HOLD A BUTTERFLY VALVE TOGETHER WIGGLE LOOSE AND IS INGESTED INTO THE ENGINE. THIS CAUSES THE VALVE TO GET DAMAGED AND FALL OUT RESULTING IN TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. NISSAN KNOWS THIS OCCURS AND IS UNWILLING TO HELP ME WITH THE REPAIR. WHEN THIS OCCURRED TO ME, I WAS IN A VERY BAD SITUATION AND NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO GAIN CONTROL AGAIN HOWEVER THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE CAR WHEN I NEARLY WENT INTO THE DITCH. I HAVE A POLICE REPORT AS WELL. SO NISSAN KNOWS THEIR TOP OF THE LINE ENGINES CAN WITH NO WARNING FAIL WHICH AT ANY SPEED CAN BE A POTENTIAL SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE FIX IS SIMPLE TO PREVENT IT, SECURE THOSE SCREWS WITH SOME GLUE OR LOCK TIGHT, BUT IF THEY ADMIT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, THEN THEY'D BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGED ENGINES AND THEY SEEM TO PREFER TO DENY IT. I JUST SPENT A WEEK TRYING TO GET THEM TO TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY AND THEY WONT. THIS IS BEYOND A WARRANTY ISSUE IN MY OPINION IF IT CAN CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE POWER AND LOOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT HAPPENS QUICKLY AND THE IMPACT ON CONTROL IS IMMEDIATE. NOT SAFE AT ANY SPEED. THIS RECALL NUMBER, #03V084 DESCRIBES MY SITUATION PRECISELY. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 97,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING (OVER THE LAST COURSE OF A YEAR) SEVERE OIL CONSUMPTION. SOON AFTER I CHANGED MY OIL IN MAY OF 2013, I BEGAN TO NOTICE UNUSUAL ENGINE NOISE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THAT MY MOTOR WAS ONLY RUNNING ON A QUART AND A HALF OF OIL. THE MECHANIC REPLENISHED MY OIL TO ITS NORMAL LEVEL AND SINCE THEN, THE MOTOR CONSUMES OIL AT AN ABNORMALLY RAPID RATE. ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA??S RECALL #03V084, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER DISINTEGRATES AND THE PARTICLES OF THE CONVERTER ARE DRAWN BACK INTO THE MOTOR, WHICH CAUSES SCARING ON THE CYLINDER WALLS. THIS PROBLEM IS THE ONLY LOGICAL EXPLANATION FOR MY VEHICLE'S RAPID OIL CONSUMPTION. IT??S MY INTENTION TO APPROACH NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2005 ALTIMA. WE RECENTLY DISCOVERED BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARDS ARE RUSTED OUT/THROUGH. THIS CAR HAS BEEN WELL CARED FOR AND THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN AND SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS AND SEEN NUMEROUS ON-LINE BLOGS AND FORMAL COMPLAINTS FILED TO NHTSA ON THE SAME ISSUE FOR NISSAN OWNERS. I DID PERSONALLY CONTACT NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND FILED A CLAIM WITH THEM ON THIS MATTER. THEY VERY POLITELY TURNED ME DOWN ON ANY SUPPORT FOR THE STRUCTURAL ISSUE AND SAID THE CAR IS TOO OLD (7 YRS) AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. THE QUOTE TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS $1,100.00 THAT I DON'T HAVE AND I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN TO NOT STAND BEHIND THIS STRUCTURAL ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 30 MILES/PER HOUR THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND A DRIVER DRIVES TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN I FRONT OF ME. MY CAR WAS STRUCK MOSTLY IN THE FRONT TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE. IN 2013 I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP TO HAVE THEM FIX MY BUMPER AND THEY REALIZED A HOLE UNDERNEATH MY PASSENGER FLOOR . THEY TOLD ME IT WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH AND I HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED AT THE COST 700 DOLLARS. NOW ITS 2015 AND I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM ALL OVER AGAIN. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT 45MPH WHEN A EXPEDITION MADE AN ILLEGAL LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF HER CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. MY SON SITTING IN THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER SEAT HAD SPRAINED WRISTS AND A SPRAINED SHOULDER FROM HITTING THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT. SPOKE TO NISSAN AND HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY THEIR ENGINEERS, WITH INFORMATION DOWNLOADED FROM THE COMPUTER AND PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN. NISSAN HAD RESPONDED, THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATED UNDER THEIR STANDARDS AND NO FURTHER ISSUES. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A VEHICLE DOING 45 MPH WITH MODERATE FRONT END DAMAGE HIT AN EXPEDITION AND THE AIRBAGS/SEATBELTS FAILED TO WORK.
