TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE FLOOR BOARDS ON THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WERE ROTTEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THE REPAIR COST WOULD BE $440 PER SIDE IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE FLOOR BOARDS AND THEY WERE OUT SOURCING THE REPAIRS TO A BODY SHOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO WILL REPLACE THE FLOOR BOARDS AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE FOR $600. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE INSPECTION WHEN HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS RUSTED AT THE FRONT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MECHANIC WOULD PERFORM REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS WITH BRAKES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP AND THE PROBLEM TYPICALLY OCCURRED IN THE MORNING TIME AND IN THE DRIVEWAY ON EXTREMELY COLD DAYS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION AND STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER AND STALL. THE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
MY VEHICLE BEGAN EXHIBITING THE FAMOUS NISSAN VQ35 TIMING CHAIN NOISES EARLY ON, MOSTLY IT WAS JUST A RATTLE WHICH I WAS TOLD WAS NOT A BIG DEAL. LATER, AT AROUND 100K MILES IT BECAME A VERY LOUD WHINING NOISE. I AM CONCERNED WHEN DRIVING MY CAR BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF THE VEHICLE, IF DAMAGE OCCURS TO IT THIS COULD DESTROY MY ENGINE. PRICE QUOTES FOR REPAIRING THIS ARE AS HIGH AS $2500! THE PARTS HAVE BEEN UPDATED WHICH PROVES NISSAN KNOWS OF THIS ISSUE AND HAS HAD A PLAN OF SOME SORT TO FIX IT FOR THOSE THAT EXHIBIT THE PROBLEM. THIS YEAR I AM REQUIRED TO OBTAIN A SMOG TEST FOR MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA THA I PURCHASED USED FROM POWER VOLVO IN CALIFORNIA. MY CAR IS THROWING OFF A P0420 CODE WHICH REQUIRES A REPLACEMENT TO THE PRE-CATALYTIC CONVERTER. PER THE OWNERS MANUAL, MY CAR SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS FOR 15 YEARS, 150,000. YET WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CONVERTER REPAIRED, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR ORIGINALLY CAME FROM NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS DID NOT APPLY AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED UNDER THE STATES EMISSIONS WARRANTY. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 4 YEARS AND HAVE DRIVEN IT AND LIVED IN CALIFORNIA SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A DEALER COULD BE ABLE TO GET OUT OF A REPAIR TO THIS PRE-CAT DEFECT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS "FIRST SOLD IN NEW YORK". I HAVE FILED A CLAIM WITH NISSAN REQUESTING ASSISTANCE BUT HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK (CLAIM #7271179). I HAVE ALSO STARTED CONSUMING OIL WHICH IS NOT DUE TO AN OUTSIDE LEAK AND MY DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR BOARD IS RUSTING. PLEASE HELP!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING EXAMINED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR A STATE INSPECTION WHEN SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A VERY LARGE HOLE IN THE FRAME UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE HOLE WAS THE RESULT OF SEVERE RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. A COMPLAINT WAS ALSO FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 124,000. UPDATED 11/22/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $400 WITH NO ASSISSTANCE. WHILE HAVING THE OIL CHANGED IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE OWNER'S ATTENTION THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT FLOORBOARD WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP WHERE THEY ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OTHER RUST ON THE CAR AND THE EXTENT OF PERFORATION WAS SO SEVERE THE BODY SHOP SAID THERE MUST BE SOME PROBLEM WITH THE WAY THE CAR WAS ASSEMBLED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WHERE THE WARRANTY REPRESENTATIVE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND DENIED ANY WARRANTY SUPPORT OR ASSISTANCE WITH GETTING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO A REPUTABLE BODY SHOP WHERE THE CAR WAS REPAIRED FOR $600.00. THE BODY SHOP INFORMED ME THAT THE RUST HAD STARTED ON THE INSIDE AND RUSTED THROUGH FROM THE TOP. AFTER REPAIRS, THE OWNER SAW THAT SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR AND TYPE HAVE THE SAME DEFECT. *TR
MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WITH AN SUV AT 45 MPH AIR BAGS WERE NOT DEPLOYED. CAR WAS A TOTAL DAMAGE . *TR
MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON AND I LATER NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS HARD TO START. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THERE WERE TWO INCIDENTS WHERE THE MOTOR ALMOST DIED - I CALLED AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. MEANWHILE, I LOOKED UP ANY RECALLS FOR MY YEAR AND MODEL AND THERE WAS ONE ON THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FROM 2007 AND I ALSO NOTICED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED A PROBLEM WITH THIS SENSOR AND THEY REPLACED IT BUT THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, STATING THAT THE RECALL WAS ISSUED BASED ON WHERE THE CAR WAS MANUFACTURED. THE PART FAILED REGARDLESS OF WHERE THE CAR WAS ASSEMBLED. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD CONSIDER EXPANDING THIS RECALL TO INCLUDE ALL MODELS INVOLVING THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE WHILE SHIFTING IN REVERSE GEAR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO JERK EXCESSIVELY. THE SIMILAR FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TWICE WHO REPLACED THE OXYGEN AND WHEEL SPEED SENSORS AT DIFFERENT TIMES FOR THE SIMILAR FAILURE. THE DEFECT RECURRED THREE MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WILL HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000. RVK
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN MY CAR HAS FAILED ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. MOST RECENTLY, FOR ABOUT THE 10TH TIME, MY WINDOWS DON'T GO DOWN AND I AM UNABLE TO ADJUST THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT. MY CAR HAS RECENTLY FAILED THE SAFETY INSPECTION IN MY STATE BECAUSE THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW DOES NOT GO DOWN. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A REPUTABLE DEALER, BUT I HAVE A FEELING THEY KNEW THE CAR HAD ELECTRICAL ISSUES BECAUSE THEY PUSHED THE 3RD PARTY WARRANTY WHEN I WAS DOING MY FINANCING. IT DIDN'T DAWN ON ME UNTIL I STARTED HAVING ALL THESE ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN MY THE CAR; SUNROOF, WINDOWS, LOCKS AND SEATS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE I-95 I BEGAN TO APPROACH SLOWER TRAFFIC. AS I PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN, ALL THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, MY STEERING GOT STIFF, AND THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY OFF. WHEN I PULLED OVER AND ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN IT HESITATED BUT EVENTUALLY IT STARTED. HOWEVER, THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT THAT HAS OCCUR, THE CAR NO LONGER STARTS AT ALL AND ONLY CRANKS BUT WON'T TURN OVER. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING FROM DELAWARE TO NEW YORK, I HIT THE I-95 AROUND 5PM; TYPICAL RUSH OUR TIME. AS I BEGAN TO APPROACH HEAVY TRAFFIC I PROCEEDED TO SLOW DOWN. BY THE TIME MY SPEED DECREASED TO 25MPH, MY STEERING WHEEL GOT STIFF AND THE CAR FELT LIGHT AS IF THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY OFF AND LEFT IN NEUTRAL AND ROLLING DOWN A HILL. INDEED THE CAR HAD STALLED, AND ALL MY DASH LIGHTS SWITCHED ON (ALT, OIL, BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS). I TRIED MY BEST TO STEER INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE TO AVOID ANY POSSIBLE ACCIDENTS. *TR
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON LAST MONDAY, AUGUST 22, 2011. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK THE NEXT MORNING AND HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL SET. AFTER I WENT OVER A SMALL HILL, IT FELT LIKE MY CAR TRIED TO DOWNSHIFT. AS IT DID, IT DIED. THIS WAS AT 7:30 IN THE MORNING WHEN TRAFFIC WAS HIGH. I HAD CARS ALL AROUND ME WHEN THE CAR DIED. I WAS ALMOST HIT. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH BECAUSE I COULD?VE BEEN KILLED OR KILLED SOMEONE ELSE. THE BRAKES GOT TIGHT AS THEY DO WHEN YOU PUMP UP BRAKES AND THE CAR ISN?T RUNNING SO I HAD NO CONTROL OF THEM EITHER. TOOK MY CAR TO LOCAL MECHANIC HE REPLACED CRANK AND CAM SENSORS. WHEN THIS DID NOT REPAIR THE ISSUE, HE SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO NEAREST NISSAN MECHANIC. AFTER TRYING NOURSE IN CHILLICOTHE WHO WAS ABSOLUTELY RUDE AND ABSURD, I TOOK IT TO TAYLOR IN ATHENS, OHIO. THEY PUT A FACTORY CRANK AND CAM SENSOR ON AND THIS DID NOT RESOLVE PROBLEM. THEY DECIDED THAT THE ECM IS BAD IN THE CAR. I HAVE PAID FOR THIS CAR TO BE TOWED TWICE, PAID FOR CAM AND CRANK SENSORS TWICE, TALKED TO NISSAN, WHO WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HELP AND RUDE. THE MAN HUNG UP ON MY HUSBAND WHEN HE ASKED TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE ELSE SO HE COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE SAYING. HAVE TO DRIVE ANOTHER 100 MILES ROUND TRIP TO TAKE OTHER SET OF KEYS TO DEALER AND IS GOING TO BE ATLEAST FRIDAY BEFORE THEY GET THE PARTS IN. SO IT WILL BE ALMOST 2 WEEKS THAT I AM WITHOUT A CAR. AS IT STANDS, MY BILL IS NOW $1311.51. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS EXACT PART AND DID THE EXACT SAME THINGS AS LISTED ON RECALL. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED. THIS PART WAS REPLACED IN 2009 AND ARE NO ?OUTSTANDING CAMPAIGNS? FOR MY MODEL CAR. I THINK THIS IS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I DON?T CARE IF THE PART IS REPLACED 15 TIMES, IF IT?S FAULTY, IT?S FAULTY. I HAVE DEALT WITH THE RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE OF NISSAN THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND, RUDE SHOP MANAGERS AT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS, AND I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR ALL OF THIS. I FEEL THAT NISSAN IS STILL ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR

ABOUT A YEAR AGO MY CAR BEGAN TO USE MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL AND ALSO SMOKE WHEN STARTED. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND A REASON FOR MY CAR TO GO THROUGH SO MUCH OIL. EX. HAD TO PUT 4 QUARTS IN ONE DAY INTO MY CAR. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER THAT STARTED, THEM TEMPERATURE GAGE STARTED RUNNING HOT, BUT NEVER SHOWED SIGNS OF OVERHEATING. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO MY CAR STARTED DRIVING REALLY ROUGH AND THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK AT ME. WHEN TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC IS WAS FOUND THAT I HAD A PARTIALLY BLOWN HEAD GASKET. MECHANIC SAID HE HAD SEEN 4 OTHER CARS, SAME YEAR AND MODEL AS MINE THAT HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM ON THE SAME EXACT GASKET. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THAT SOON AFTER THEY REPLACED TO HEAD GASKET, THEIR ENGINE BLEW.. I'VE HAD THE CAR FOR 4 YEARS AND I'M STILL PAYING IT. I REALLY NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA NORTH IN THE LEFT LANE OF A 2 LANE ROAD APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION (I WAS ALONE IN THE CAR). AN SUV WAS HEADING SOUTH AND WAS STOPPED IN THE TURN LANE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. AS I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSECTION (GREEN LIGHT) THE SUV TURNED IN FRONT OF MY CAR. THE DISTANCE WAS TOO SHORT TO STOP. I HIT THEIR RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BY THE TIRE HEAD ON. I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 30 MPH. THE DAMAGE TO MY CAR WAS TO THE CENTER FRONT END. THE FRONT END WAS PUSHED IN AND THE HOOD BUCKLED. UPON IMPACT, MY PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED BUT MY DRIVER SIDE DIDN'T. I HAD A SMALL PURSE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE POLICE, TOW DRIVER, MECHANIC AND AUTO ASSESSOR ALL SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN WITH THE AIRBAGS. MY CAR WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. THE DAMAGE WAS TOO EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. I WAS LUCKILY TO NOT BE INJURED. I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT IF THE IMPACT WAS MORE SEVERE, I HAD NO PROTECTION AND COULD HAVE BEEN INJURED. I HAVE PHOTOS OF THE ACCIDENT AND WHAT WAS ON THE PASSENGER SEAT AS WELL AS A STATEMENT FROM THE AUTO REPAIR MECHANIC SAYING THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN THIS SITUATION WHERE THE WRONG AIRBAG DEPLOYED. *TR

DID A SEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. AFFECTED YEARS '02' - '06'. MANY OTHERS HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY HAVE REFUSED REPAIR. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFED AND THEY WERE UNAWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 92,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THERE IS A RUSTED HOLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR OF THE CAR. THE HOLE IS THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL WITH RUSTED METAL AROUND THE AREA OF THE HOLE. APPARENTLY THIS IS COMMON ON 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMAS. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. *TT
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I PURCHASED A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA IN JULY 2009. RECENTLY, I HAD MY CAR INSPECTED AND A RUST PERFORATION WAS NOTICED ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL WHICH IS THROUGH THE FIRST LAYER OF METAL. I SPOKE WITH THE DEALER, WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, AND THEY STATED THAT MY WARRANTY FOR PERFORATION WAS 5 YEARS AND HAS EXPIRED. I HAD PLANNED ON REPAIRING IT MYSELF; HOWEVER, UPON ONLINE RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2002-2006 ALTIMA MODELS. THE PERFORATION ON THESE CARS APPEARS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR EXACTLY WHERE MINE IS. THE FLOOR IS DESIGNED WITH TWO PIECES OF SHEET METAL WITH A GAP IN BETWEEN WHICH, UNFORTUNATELY ALLOWS WATER TO BECOME TRAPPED. THIS IS A DESIGN ERROR WHICH CAUSES PREMATURE RUST TO FORM. I EXPLAINED THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ONLINE CONCERNING THIS MATTER AND WAS SURPRISED THAT THE SERVICE AGENT WAS UNAWARE OF THIS ISSUE. 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER STATES VEHICLE JUMPS OR JERKS INTO GEAR *TGW THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE CONSUMER STATED IN ORDER TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM, SHE HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND START IT AGAIN, SOMETIMES WITH RESISTANCE FROM THE ENGINE AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD START RIGHT AWAY. THE CONSUMER DID SOME RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THE CRANKSHAFT AND CAMSHAFT SENSOR. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS INFORMED, HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HER MECHANIC WHERE HE DISCOVERED THE SENSORS WERE MADE OF PLASTIC AND COVERED IN OIL. *JB
DURING A ROUTINE BRAKE INSPECTION IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTTENTION THE FLOORBOARDS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE (FRONT SEAT) HAVE CORRODED TO THE POINT WHERE A FINGER COULD PUNCH THROUGH THE FLOOR. THE DAMAGE IS ISOLATED AND APPEARS TO BE FROM A FAULTY DRAIN SYSTEM FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR OVER AN HOUR WITH THE AIR RUNNING, THERE IS NO DRAINING ON THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE. IT APPEARS THE WATER IS PUDDLING UNDER THE FLOOR MATS AND CAUSING THE EROSION OF THE FLOOR. I AM THE ONLY OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND IT HAS BEEN GARAGED SINCE THE DAY I BROUGHT IT HOME.
1. FOR THE PAST YEAR THE CLUTCH PEDAL DEPRESSES TO THE FLOOR DURING PERIODS OF INCREASED USE. STARTED OUT HAPPENING ONCE EVERY OTHER WEEK. CLUTCH WOULD STILL ENGAGE UNTIL FRIDAY JUNE 3RD, 2011. CLUTCH FAILED TO ENGAGE IN TRAFFIC. 2. FAILURE STARTS DURING INCREASED USE, HEAVY TRAFFIC, & DURING HOT DAYS, ESPECIALLY WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS USED. INCIDENT STARTED OCCURRING ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO AND HAS INCREASED IN FREQUENCY, HAPPENING NOW AT LEAST 5 TIMES A WEEK. SOMETIMES IT WILL HAPPEN 3 TIMES A DAY. WHEN IT FINALLY FAILED I WAS IN TRAFFIC & UNABLE TO SHIFT ANY GEARS. 3. MANAGED TO DRIVE CAR TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE I WAS TOLD THE CLUTCH HAD COMPLETELY FAILED. HAVING IT REPLACED NOW. CAR IS ONLY AT 60,000 MILES. NISSAN FORUMS HAVE MANY OWNERS EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE CLUTCH FAILURE.
2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER STATES SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE TO INCLUDE BRAKES, TRUNK LEAK, RELAY SWITCH *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, IT HAD BEEN TRADED TWO DAYS PRIOR, AND THE SAFETY INSPECTION HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER, HE COULD KEEP IT OVER THE WEEKEND AND BRING IT BACK THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY FOR THE SAFETY INSPECTION SO THEY COULD REPAIR ANY PROBLEMS. WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED HOME WITH THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED A COVER FOR THE SEAT BELT CONNECTOR WAS NOT ATTACHED AND THERE WAS STANDING WATER IN THE SPARE TIRE WHEEL WELL. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE TRUNK PROBLEM WAS FIXED. HOWEVER, WATER WAS FOUND IN THE SPARE WHEEL WELL AGAIN. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED DUE TO A FAULTY GAS RELAY SWITCH. THE CONSUMER STATED TWO WEEKS LATER, THE BRAKES STARTED SQUEALING. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE WARRANTY COMPANY STATED THE BEARINGS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE WARRANTY COMPANY STATED THEIR DENIAL OF COVERAGE WAS BASED ON THE FACT, THE VEHICLE WAS FRONT-WHEEL DRIVE. ON INSTALLATION I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED SHIMMING, SHAKING AND INTENSE VIBRATIONS ON MY VEHICLE. I ASSUMED IT WAS THE CONDITIONS OF THE HIGHWAY, HOWEVER, THE FOLLOWING DAY DRIVING ON A DIFFERENT HIGHWAY THE SHIMMING, SHAKING AND INTENSE VIBRATIONS CONTINUED AND EVEN INTENSIFIED. I CALLED THE RETAILER, AND EXPLAINED THE EXPERIENCE AND THEY SUGGESTED HAVING THE TIRES REBALANCED, I DID AND THE BEHAVIOR CONTINUED. I THEN TOOK MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HAD MY FRONT END ALIGNED AND THE DROVE THE CAR AROUND, AND THE SAME RESULTS CONTINUED. I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 69 MPH AND THE CAR LITERALLY "DANCED" ACROSS THE HIGHWAY AND I MOMENTARILY LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R 6 SPEED MANUAL WHEN THE CLUTCH JUST SANK TO THE FLOOR I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND HEAD COULD NOT GO AT THE LIGHT. AFTER A COUPLE OF TIMES THE CLUTCH WENT BACK TO NORMAL PRESSURE. ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THE CLUTCH NEVER WENT BACK TO PRESSURE I HAVE BEEN READING FORUMS ONLINE, AND THIS HAPPENS TO BE A PROBLEM FOR MOST 02-06 NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS WITH MANUALS. CAR STARTED MISSING AND STUTTERING THEN SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING FOR A COUPLE DAYS, NEARLY CAUSING 3 ACCIDENTS IN THIS SPAN. ON THE THIRD DAY IT STARTED LOSING POWER AND SHUT OFF CONSTANTLY WHEN AT RED LIGHTS. TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SCANNED THE ENGINE CODES. WE REPLACES THE CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND THE CAR RAN SMOOTHLY AGAIN. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE ECM REPROGRAM RECALL DONE TO THE CAR AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON AND VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR

CLUTCH FAILURE - REPEATED, TEMPORARY CLUTCH FAILURE. FREQUENCY IS UNPREDICTABLE AND RANDOM - SOMETIMES MONTHS APART BETWEEN OCCURANCES. DURATION OF OCCURANCE HAS NOT EXCEEDED 10 MINUTES, THEN CLUTCH BEHAVIOR IS NORMAL AND CAN DRIVE NORMALLY. PETAL "STICKS" TO FLOOR AND MUST BE PULLED UP BY HAND IN ORDER TO ENGAGE AND CHANGE GEARS. THE VEHICLE STEERING BINDS WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT AND FAILS TO RECOVERTO THE NEUTRAL POSITION WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT MANUAL ASSIST. REPLACEMENT OF LOWER STEERING JOINT ASSEMBLY AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT WAS REQUIRED.
VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT FOR ROUTINE INSPECTION. 2 HOLES WERE DISCOVERED IN FLOOR PANELS THAT PREVENTED IT FROM PASSING VT INSPECTION. CORROSION WAS FROM INSIDE OUT UNDER BOTH FRONT SEATS NOT VISIBLE FROM VEHICLE INTERIOR. VEHICLE HAS BEEN GARAGED SINCE PURCHASE 6/25/04. CORROSION IS EXCESSIVE FOR AGE AND MILEAGE EVEN IN AN AREA PRONE TO ROAD SALT CORROSION. MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED ON MODEL YEARS 2001-2005 YET NO RECALL. THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AND IF NOT RECOGNIZED CAN ALLOW CARBON MONOXIDE INTO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY, STEADILY PROGRESSING AT 65MPH. THE CAR SHUDDERED, EVEN THOUGH I HADN'T CHANGED MY ACCELERATION (OR ANYTHING ELSE). I DISMISSED IT AS A FLUKE AND RAN AN ERRAND. WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR AFTER I EXITED THE STORE, THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN OVER IN A TIMELY MANNER. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE CAR FINALLY STARTED. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TAKE IT IN. I TOOK IT TO MY USUAL MECHANIC, WHO CHECKED THE CAR OUT AND TOLD ME ABOUT THE OUTSTANDING RECALL ON CAM/CRANKSHAFT SENSOR PROGRAMMING. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP (FENTON NISSAN, 8800 NORTHWEST EXPY, OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA), WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD DO THE RECALL, BUT THAT I HAD TO HAVE NEW CAM/CRANKSHAFT SENSORS INSTALLED FIRST OR MY COMPUTER WOULD BURN UP. I CALLED MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT HE HAD CHECKED MY SENSORS AND THAT THEY WERE FINE. I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THIS INFO, AND THEY RESTATED WHAT THEY HAD SAID BEFORE. I THEN SAID THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE THE INSTALLATION DONE BY MY MECHANIC. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT MY GUY WOULD JUST MESS UP THE JOB, AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE ANY SENSORS HE WOULD INSTALL, SO IT WOULD BE IN MY BEST INTEREST TO JUST HAVE THE DEALERSHIP DO THE WORK. HE THEN INSINUATED THAT REGARDLESS OF WHAT I DID, THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T PERFORM THE RECALL WITHOUT THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLING NEW SENSORS. I GOT BOTH THE SENSORS AND THE RECALL PERFORMED BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED, THE CAR WAS STILL NOT PERFORMING CORRECTLY, SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO DID THE RECALL PROGRAMMING AGAIN, AND THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING WELL EVER SINCE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FORCED ME TO HAVE EXTRA WORK DONE, EVEN THOUGH MY SENSORS WERE GOOD AND THE RECALL DOESN'T SPECIFY THAT SENSORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED BEFORE THE RECALL IS PERFORMED. *TR

THE SAFETY AND DURABILITY OF LIQUID FILLED ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDS TO BE EXAMINED. THEY ARE A TOTAL AND UTTER FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURERS KNOW THIS, BUT ARE MAKING THE CONSUMER PAY FOR REPLACEMENT FOR PREMATURE FAILURES AND RELATED DAMAGES. THIS IS WHY YOU HAVE ENGINE RUN ALWAYS. THE ELECTRONICS AREN'T MEANT FOR THIS MUCH VIBRATIONS. WITH A SOLID, OR EVEN SEMI-SOLID MOUNT, THE FRAME ABSORBS SOME OF THIS ENERGY. BEST REPLACEMENT MOUNTS SHOULD BE A SEMI-SOLID, HONEY COMB NEOPRENE CORE, WITH CABLE REINFORCEMENT. *TR
