CAR PURCHASED NEW ,05 ALTIMA SER 3.5, $30,000 PRICE TAG. NOTICED RUST AT APPROX 3/11, TOOK TO DEALER THEY CLAIMED NEVER HAVING SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE TOLD ME TO CONTACT NISSAN CORP AND FILE COMPLAINT, I DID ( FILE #[XXX]) DEALERSHIP ALSO TOOK PICTURES AND SENT THEM TO NISSAN. " [XXX]" NISSAN REGIONAL SPECIALIST ( EX: # 457225) STATED IT WAS NOT THERE PROBLEM "RUST HAPPENS". RUST IN FLOORBOARDS ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. VEHICLE HAS NOW 67,000 MILES AND NOW CARRIES MY NEW BORN SON, BORN 5/09/11. WHY ISN'T THIS BEING ADDRESSED, WHERE'S IS THE GOVERNMENTS PROTECTION OF MY FAMILY AND I ? THE FOLLOWING IS A DETAILED ACCOUNT OF THE AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT THAT OCCURRED ON FEBRUARY 24, 2011. AT APPROXIMATELY 11:30AM, WHILE DRIVING MY FATHER'S 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S, WHICH I REGULARLY DRIVE, I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A LOCAL SHOPPING CENTER. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE IN WHICH MY VEHICLE WAS SEPARATED BY A CURBED SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING. I PLACED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK WHILE THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I GLANCED TO THE RIGHT OF ME AT THE PASSENGER'S SEAT TO MAKE SURE I HAD MY BELONGINGS. MY HANDS WERE NEITHER ON THE STEERING WHEEL OR THE GEAR SHIFT WHEN UNEXPECTEDLY THE VEHICLE INSTANTLY LAUNCH FORWARD. IT JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT INTO THE SHOPPING CARTS WHICH WERE BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE BUILDING'S WALL. THE CAR BEGAN TO LURCH BACK AND FORTH VIOLENTLY, RAMMING INTO THE SHOPPING CARTS, CAUSING MY BODY TO ALSO BE TOSSED BACK AND FORTH IN THE SAME MANNER. I PLACED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO REVERSE TO TRY AND REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE SIDEWALK. IMMEDIATELY AFTER I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE SIDEWALK I PUT THE GEAR SHIFT BACK INTO PARK. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE BACKWARDS WITH AS MUCH FORCE AND VELOCITY AS IT EXERTED WHEN IT FIRST LAUNCHED FORWARD. I FOUND MYSELF SPEEDING BACKWARDS SO RAPIDLY THAT I HAD NO MEANS OF STOPPING THE CAR. THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP AFTER IT STRUCK TWO VEHICLES THAT WERE PARKED ACROSS THE PARKING LOT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL SPORADICALLY WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS 5 MPH AND ABOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED HER THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE MANIFOLD CONVERTER AND THE O2 SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 87,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD HAVE TO PARTIALLY DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND PERFORMED A FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE. HE REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,626 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,646.
I FAILED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN, AND WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 25-30 MPH WHEN I COLLIDED WITH A VEHICLE THAT HIT MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT QUARTER PANEL. THE CRASH HAPPENED AT SUCH A HIGH IMPACT THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, BUT THE AIRBAG ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DID NOT DEPLOY, CAUSING ME SEVERE BRUISING AND INJURY. THE CRASH WAS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT OUR INSURANCE DECLARED OUR VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. THE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED IN THIS CRASH, AND NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE INJURIES IN CASES LIKE THIS. MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MANY REASONS, BUT THE SAFETY FROM AIR BAGS WAS A PRIMARY REASON. THEY FAILED IN MY CASE, AND I AM CONCERNED THAT OTHERS MAY HAVE EXPERIENCED FAULTY AIR BAGS AS WELL FROM NISSAN.
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO A PRECISION DEALER IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. PRECISION TOLD ME THAT THE PART AFFECTED (CATALYTIC CONVERTER) HAD BEEN RECALLED BY NISSAN AND THE DEALER WOULD FIX IT FOR FREE. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN THOUGH THE PART WAS RECALLED FOR SOME CARS, MY PARTICULAR VIN NUMBER WAS NOT COVERED. I ALSO CALLED UP NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIR AND THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO MY CAR. I HAD TO PAY THE PRICE FOR REPAIR MYSELF. WHEN I RESEARCHED ONLINE, I SAW TONS OF COMPLAINTS BY PEOPLE FOR A FAULTY CONVERTER THAT NISSAN FAILED TO HONOR. I AM FILING AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT BECAUSE I THINK THAT IF NISSAN KNOWS THAT A PART OF THEIRS IS UNDER RE-CALL FOR CERTAIN VINS AND OTHER DRIVERS ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING SIMILAR PROBLEMS, THEY SHOULD ALSO GET THEIR PART RECALLED. *TR
CARS POWER STARTED FLUTTERING AROUND 45-50 MPH, LIKE IT WAS WANTING TO DIE. IT HAD PREVIOUSLY DIED WHILE IDLEING..CODES WERE CHECKED THEY CAME UP AS BAD CRANK AND CAM SENSOR..AND BAD SPEED SENSOR.AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER..NOTICED CAR WAS UNDER RE-CALL..TOWED IT TO DEALER THEY FLASHED ECM..WHEN WE WERE DRIVING CAR HOME ALL PROBLEMS RE-OCCURRED..HAD CODES CHECKED AT ANOTHER GARAGE ALL THE SAME ONES CAME UP..CALLED DEALER THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL AND WANTED TO CHARGE US TO CHECK CODES TOLD THEM WE ALREADY HAD THEM AND THEY SAID ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM...THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN ADDRESSING THE REAL ISSUES OR FIXING WHAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS, WHAT A RIP-OFF..

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE PLACED FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN THE TEMPERATURE FALLS BELOW 10 DEGREES F, THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD AND WON'T MOVE THEREFORE THE BRAKES WON'T APPLY. THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. SINCE OTHER LESS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WARRANT A RECALL WHY WOULDN'T THIS? IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM NOT ONLY ON 05 MODELS. PART OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR RUSTED AWAY LEAVING ABOUT A 10" X 12" HOLE. THIS IS RIGHT WHERE ONE WOULD PROBABLY PLACE ONE'S FEET, GETTING IN AND OUT AND WHILE RIDING. GERWECK NISSAN, IN MONROE, MICHIGAN VERIFIED THE PROBLEM AND REPORTED IT TO NISSAN COMPANY. NISSAN COMPANY REP. IN AN E-MAIL DISCUSSION DECIDED NOT TO REPAIR THE FLOOR. WHAT I DERIVED FROM MY EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE, IS WHEN A NISSAN IS NINE YEARS OLD AND HAS HIGH MILEAGE IF THE METAL RUSTS AWAY IT IS NORMAL AND EXPECTED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY STALL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY FOR TWO WEEKS. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PRIOR OR AFTER THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE, BUT SHE COULDN'T RECALL WHAT IT WAS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 47,178.
MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. MY CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST. I WAS JUST WONDERING WHY MY CAR IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST? IS NISSAN WAITING FOR AN ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN FIRST? I WENT OUT TODAY TO START MY CAR AND NOW IT WON'T START AT ALL. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT WAS READING THE TROUBLESHOOTING # P0335 WHICH IS THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. I SPOKE TO A NISSAN REP. YESTERDAY AND SHE REFUSED TO HELP ME OUT IF DID NOT GO TO A NISSAN DEALER TO HAVE MY CAR CHECKED BY THEM. SORRY, I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. THERE ARE PLACES THAT DO IT FOR NOTHING NOW. I THINK YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. I DO FEAR DRIVING MY CAR NOW. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM FOR ALL OF THE NISSAN OWNERS. *TR
MY CAR WOULD ACT LIKE IT WAS SKIPPING A GEAR AND JERK. IT WOULD ALSO SOMETIMES NOT START. THE ULTIMATE FAILURE IS THAT MY CAR STALLS WHILE I'M DRIVING IT. IT USED TO BE EVERY SO OFTEN AND HAS NOW BECOME A DAILY THING. I AM REPLACING THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR MYSELF AS THIS IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. NISSAN KNOWS THIS BUT HAS DONE NOTHING TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY SO IT WASN'T WORTH MY WHILE TO EVEN CHECK WITH NISSAN TO HAVE THIS FIXED. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2005 ALTIMA 2.5 S BRAND NEW AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND KEPT IN PERFECT CONDITION. MY HEADLIGHTS HAVE STARTED TO OXIDIZE HORRIBLY BUT ONLY ON THE INSIDE, THIS SEEMS LIKE A POORLY MADE PRODUCT, IF AFTER ONLY ABOUT 5 YEARS MY HEADLIGHTS START FAILING TO PERFORM WITH NO WARRANTY? *JS
IN COLD TEMPERATURES (20F), UPON DRIVING THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE DAY, THERE IS NO PLAY IN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP AND PUMPING THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES AFTER THE CAR IS WARMED UP, THE BRAKES OPERATE NORMALLY. REPAIR SHOPS HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE FLUID OR BRAKE SYSTEMS. THIS OCCURRED THREE DAYS IN A ROW AND COUNTING. *TR

THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,000.
THIS CAR WAS PART OF A RECALL DUE TO A ENGINE COOLING DEFECT, THEY CLAIMED IT WAS FIXED. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN LAST YEAR MY HEAT WOULDN'T WORK, INSTEAD THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD JUST KICK ON, COULD NOT BE FIXED. I HAD NO HEAT LAST WINTER. I HAD A FRIEND WHO WAS A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT THIS YEAR TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND MADE A TEMP FIX AND I HAVE HEAT SOME OF THE TIME. HE DISCONNECTED THE A/C FOR NOW. THIS SHOULDN'T HAPPEN TO A 5 NOW 6 YEAR OLD CAR. TRY BEING IN 0 DEGREE WEATHER WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWING AT YOU AND BEING TOLD THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG. THIS HAS TO BE A DEFECT BECAUSE I HAVE HAD MANY 10-15 YEAR OLD CARS AND NEVER HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED TO THAT I CAN HAVE HEAT, AND NOW THAT MY A/C IS DISCONNECTED I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY DEFROSTER WORKING, BUT A SMALL PRICE TO PAY FOR NOT GETTING FROST BITE IN THE FRIGID TEMPS. *TR
WHILE GETTING THE OIL CHANGED, THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PAN WAS FOUND TO HAVE EXCESSIVE RUST. TOOK THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO GET AN ASSESSMENT OF THE DAMAGE. THEY CONFIRMED THE RUST WAS ABNORMAL AND WAS CAUSED BY IMPROPER WATER DRAINAGE. UNFORTUNATELY THE CAR WAS ABOUT 4 MONTHS OUT OF THE 5 YEAR RUST WARRANTY. THE DEALER WOULD NOT TAKE ANY ACTION AND URGED ME TO CREATE AN INCIDENT REPORT WITH NISSAN CORPORATE. I DID, AND UPON REVIEW OF THE CASE, NISSAN'S REFUSED TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP TO GET REPAIRED ON MY DOLLAR. I UNDERSTAND CARS RUST, BUT THERE IS NO WAY THE RUST HAPPENED OVERNIGHT. BASED ON THE EXTENT OF THE RUST, THE FLOOR PAN WAS MOST LIKELY SEVERELY RUSTED PRIOR TO THE EXPIRATION OF THE RUST WARRANTY. NISSAN SHOULD STAND BY THERE PRODUCT AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE THAT APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD AND MODEL SPECIFIC. NISSAN SHOULD NOT ONLY FIX THOSE VEHICLES WHERE THE OWNERS HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BY A GOOD SAMARITAN CHANGING THE OIL. I FEEL PENALIZED FOR NOT PERSONALLY CLIMBING UNDER MY CAR AND PERIODICALLY INSPECTING IT. SUFFICE IT TO SAY, THERE IS ONLY CARPET SEPARATING THE PASSENGERS FEET AND THE PAVEMENT BELOW. NOT A REASSURING FEELING..... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH WHEN STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ABNORMALLY CAUSING A LOSS OF STEERING CAPABILITIES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD SPRAY WD-40 ON THE STEERING KNUCKLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE STEERING KNUCKLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THE FAILURE CAUSING A CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.

THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) BUT WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 104,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTMA. WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 86000.
APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AGO, WHILE DRIVING MY CAR I HEARD A WHINING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE UPON ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE SOUND WOULD STOP WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT. HE TOOK ALL THE BELTS SURROUNDING THE ENGINE OFF (THE DRIVE BELT ETC.) TO SEE IF THE SOUND WAS RELATED TO A DEFECT IN ONE OF THE BELTS; THE SOUND PERSISTED AND HE SAID IT WAS COMING FROM THE TIMING COVER. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WITH THE NISSAN ALTIMA SO I DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT.
CLUTCH PEDAL BEGAN TO CREAK WHEN DEPRESSED AND WOULD BEGIN TO ENGAGE VERY CLOSE TO THE FLOOR WHEN CAR WAS DRIVEN IN TOWN AND REACHED NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. FIRST FAILURE WAS SHORTLY AFTER THAT WHEN RETURNING FROM A FAMILY TRIP TO MISSOURI TO COLORADO. CLUTCH PEDAL FELL TO FLOOR AND REMAINED THERE, PREVENTING A DOWNSHIFT OR TO NEUTRAL. "FLOATED" THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL AND PULLED PEDAL BACK UP WITH MY FOOT. WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME BY LIFTING THE PEDAL AFTER EVERY SHIFT. REPLACEMENT OF THE CLUTCH MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDERS, AND WELDING THE HOUSING OF THE CLUTCH PEDAL DUE TO (STRESS FRACTURES) RESOLVED THE ISSUE FOR ABOUT 11 MONTHS/15,000 MILES, WHEN THE ISSUE BEGAN AGAIN. AFTER A FEW MORE MONTHS THE ENTIRE CLUTCH SYSTEM; CLUTCH PLATE (NOT WORN OUT), CLUTCH COVER, FLYWHEEL ASSEMBLY, MASTER AND SLAVE CYLINDER, PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND RUBBER HYDRAULIC LINE WERE REPLACED. THE SYSTEM WAS THOROUGHLY FLUSHED AND BLED FOR TRAPPED AIR. ISSUE WAS RESOLVED UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO (6 MONTHS AFTER REPLACING THE SYSTEM) WHEN THE PROBLEM RESURFACED. BLEEDING OF THE SYSTEM WAS AGAIN PERFORMED WITH NO CHANGE: PEDAL WILL FALL TO THE FLOOR AND STAY THERE IF HELD FOR 1-2 SECONDS. IF THE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED ABOUT 1-2 INCHES AND HELP FOR A FEW SECONDS, IT WILL BEGIN TO PULL ITSELF TO THE FLOOR WITH NO ASSISTANCE FROM THE DRIVER AT ALL. MY 17-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER HAS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. A WEEK AGO THE CAR BEGAN SHUTTING ITSELF OFF WHILE SHE IS DRIVING IT. THE CODES SAID WE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND WE DID SO. THIS DID NOT STOP THE PROBLEM. ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE TODAY HER CAR STOPPED AND SHE WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED BY A TRUCK. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THAT NISSAN ALTIMAS HAVE A HISTORY OF THIS SORT OF PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED IF THIS PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED. *TR

MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA CUTOFF WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT NIGHT FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES AND MADE IT HOME. THE FOLLOWING NIGHT THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. ON 25 SEPT RECEIVE EMAIL NOTIFICATION THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUE FOR THIS PROBLEM UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V527000. CONTACTED A NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO TAKE CAR IN FOR RECALL ON 28 SEPT. THE CAR STALLED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE GETTING IT IN FOR THE RECALL. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON MY WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WHEN I LEFT THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIR UNDER THE RECALL THEY CALL TO INDICATE THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INDICATE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED BEFORE THE RECALL COULD BE DONE. WAS CHARGED $288.00 TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. HAVING PROBLEM UNDERSTANDING THAT THE RECALL WAS FOR THE SENSOR OVERHEATING THAT INTERRUPT SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR AND THE RESET THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE AT NO COST BUT NOT REPLACE THE SENSOR WITHOUT CHARGING ME. THE SENSOR IS OVERHEATING CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL WHY NOT REPLACE THE SENSOR BEFORE RESETTING THE ECM. *TR
2005 NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R MAN TRANSMISSION. THE CLUTCH PEDAL STICKS TO THE FLOOR. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN A ONE YEAR PERIOD. I HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED ONCE AND THE SLAVE CYLINDER ONCE. I HAD TO PULL OVER, SLAM IT IN NEUTRAL AND ENDED UP DRIVING HOME IN FOURTH GEAR. I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL NISSAN FORUM SITES AND THERE ARE A LOT OF SE-R OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
THE ABS SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE ACTIVATES AT LOW SPEEDS. ABS LIGHT TURNS ON DASHBOARD. BUZZING SOUND HEARD FROM ENGINE BAY WHILE ABS ENGAGES. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SKID WHEN APPLYING MODERATE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE AT LOW SPEED. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS BECAUSE IF YOU ARE FORCED TO SUDDENLY STOP THE CAR WILL KEEP MOVING/SKIDDING FORWARD INSTEAD OF COMING TO A QUICK COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE NO AIR IN MY BRAKE LINES AS I HAD IT PROFESSIONALLY BLED. I ALSO HAVE NEW BRAKE PADS. AND MY BRAKE FLUID IS UP TO THE MAXIMUM LINE IN THE RESERVOIR AND CLEAR. I CLEANED ALL FOUR ABS SENSORS AND REPLACED THE ONE SENSOR THAT IS COMMON TO MALFUNCTION ON THIS VEHICLE. TURNS OUT IT IS THE ABS ACTUATOR THAT HAS TO BE REPLACED WHICH IS A $1,200+ PART FROM NISSAN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ON THE 2004-2007 MAXIMA AND 2005-2006 NISSAN ALTIMA, AS PER RESEARCH PERFORMED ON PUBLIC FORUMS IN REFERENCE TO THE AFOREMENTIONED VEHICLES. THIS IS OF A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN SINCE THE VEHICLE IS NOT ABLE TO STOP HOW IT IS MEANT TO STOP. ON THE CONTRARY, VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT IS BRAKING ON A ROAD FILLED WITH PEBBLES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS RECALLED TO REPROGRAM THE ELECTRONICS BECAUSE OF A SIMILAR PROBLEM, SEVERAL YEARS AGO, BUT I WAS TOLD BY A MECHANIC THE PROBLEM LIES WITH THE OLD STYLE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR, WHICH HAS SINCE BEEN "REDESIGNED." I UNDERSTAND A SIMILAR PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WHICH MALFUNCTION. THE CAR BUCKS, SURGES, SPUTTERS AND LOSES POWER, WHICH CAN RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT, AS IT MOST FREQUENTLY OCCURRED AT HIGH SPEED. I UNDERSTAND THE SAME PROBLEM CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO BE HARD TO START, WHICH HAS ALSO OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT (YET) RECURRED. HOWEVER, THIS IS A $300 DEALER FIX. THEY WILL REPROGRAM, BUT NOT REPLACE THIS SENSORS FREE OF CHARGE. *TR

I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON THE MUSKOGEE TURN PIKE AROUND MILE MARKER 9 WHEN I HEARD A NOISE. I FELT SHUTTERING AND LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND SAW A LARGE PIECE OF TIRE FLYING THROUGH THE AIR. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND CHANGED THE TIRE. ALL OF THE TREAD WAS MISSING AND THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED. ONCE I GOT OFF, THE CLUTCH WAS NOT RESPONSIVE WHAT SO EVER. I PULLED OVER AND PARKED WITH THE CAR OFF FOR 20 MINS. CLUTCH STARTED TO WORK AGAIN'A MIRACLE. LAST TIME, IT TOOK OVER 5 HOURS FOR THE CLUTCH TO START WORKING AGAIN. IF I WAS IN TRAFFIC OR HAD TO MAKE AN A BRUNT STOP, BRAKING WITHOUT THE CLUTCH WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. *TR
A FEW YEARS AGO THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY CAR FOR THE ECM, IT NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED, I TOOK IT IN AND SUPPOSEDLY GOT THE RECALL FIXED BUT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. THE ISSUE KEPT OCCURRING AND I WAS ALMOST IN A FEW ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. I LATER LEARNED THAT THE REPROGRAMMING CAUSED MY SENSORS TO GO OUT AND THAT WHEN IT WAS REPROGRAMMED THE SENSORS SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALSO. MOST OWNERS INCLUDING ME CANNOT NOT AFFORD THIS AND NISSAN IS NOT TAKING ON ANY RESPONSIBILITY, THEY WANT TO FIX HALF THE PROBLEM AND LEAVE ME TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE FROM THEIR MALFUNCTIONS IN THE ALTIMAS COMPUTERS. IF I TAKE MY CAR TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE ME 80 DOLLARS TO HOOK IT UP TO THE MACHINE TO TURN THE LIGHT OFF AND TELL ME THAT THE PROBLEM ISN'T THEIR FAULT. ALOT NISSAN OWNERS WERE TOLD THE SAME EXACT INFORMATION THE (ECM) WOULD BE RESET FOR FREE BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR TO BE FIXED, IF THIS AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ARE IDENTICAL, THEN IT REALLY MEANS THAT NISSAN CORP IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM AND DOES NOT CARE THAT THEIR CRANKSHAFT SENSOR IS FAILING ALONG WITH THE (ECM) AND BECAUSE OF THIS SOME LIVES ARE GONNA BE LOST, MAYBE MINE ALSO, CAUSE I CANNOT NOT AFFORD TO GET THIS FIXED AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO NOT DRIVE MY CAR. *TR

THE DEALER ADVISED HER THAT SHE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THE RECALL WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH HER VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,068.

I HAVE LOCATED AN NHTSA CAMPAIGN THAT DESCRIBES A RECALL FOR 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5L, STATING THAT THE "CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT CAUSING A BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR", THE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES WITH "THE INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS SO BRIEF THAT THE ECM LOGIC DOES NOT HAVE TIME TO FIX THE ISSUE WHICH CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP SUDDENLY. 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA TIMING CHAIN BROKE AT 83,000 MILES. THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A NOISE AND THE NEXT DAY I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN I TRIED TO GO THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. LUCKILY I DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT 5:15 AFTERNOON TRAFFIC. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED. THE MECHANIC LATER TOLD ME THAT THE TIMING CHAIN BROKE. I HAVE LOOKED ON MANY NISSAN FORUMS AND THIS HAS BEEN VERY COMMON FOR '05 ALTIMAS. THE CHAIN BROKE INTO MANY PIECES AND INVADED THE ENGINE. THIS IS NOW A COST OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR MY FAMILY. NISSAN APPARENTLY FIXED THIS PROBLEM IN THEIR ALTIMAS, BUT IT STILL REMAINS A PROBLEM IN THEIR 2005 MODELS. I THINK THE NISSAN COMPANY SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THESE BELTS AND REPAY ANYONE FOR ANY DAMAGE IT MAY HAVE CAUSED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA AND HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR! I'VE TAKEN IT TO A MECHANIC SHOP AND IT WAS PUT ON A MACHINE TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. AND IT CAME BACK MY CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR HAS GONE BAD. SO I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT ONE AND HAD IT PUT IN. AND I WOULD SAY ABOUT 3 DAYS LATER THE SAME THING STARTED AGAIN. THE CAR WAS IDLE UP HIGH THEN COME DOWN AND I WOULD START DRIVING NOT EVEN MAYBE A MILE OR LESS AWAY FROM WHERE I LIVE IT WOULD JUST COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. I WOULD TRY TO CRANK IT SEVERAL TIME AND IT WOULD COME ON AND THEN SHUT OFF. SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND SAID OH MAYBE IT WAS A BAD SENSOR SO I GOT ANOTHER ONE AND HAD THAT PUT IN. SO I'M THINKING IT'S FIXED WELL I COULD GET TO A VERY BUSY ROAD AND IT WOULD SHUT OFF DOESN'T MATTER WHERE I WAS IN THE ROAD OR ALL THE VEHICLES COMING MY WAY!! VERY SCARY THING TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH I'VE HAD SO MUCH STRESS CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TAKE MY KIDS WITH ME ANYWHERE I GO CAUSE I DIDN'T WANT THEM TO BE IN THE CAR! I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS FOR LIKE 2 MONTHS NOT EVER THINKING IT COULD BE NISSAN'S MISTAKE.. WHEN IT WOULD DIE I WOULD JUST SIT THERE TRYING TO CRANK IT AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD CRANK THEN MAYBE MOVING 5 FEET DIE AGAIN. AND THEN GETTING IT CRANKED FROM THAT SPOT IT WOULD MAYBE GO 20 FEET AND THEN DIE. I'VE HAD IT TO 2 MECHANICS AND TESTED SEVERAL TIMES SAYING THE SAME THING AND ALSO THIS CRANKSHAFT SENSOR CAN ALSO CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS TO THE CAR. I'VE SPENT 300$ TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND TO KNOW IT'S BEEN ON A RECALL AND I WAS NEVER NOTICED KIND OF MAKES ME SO MAD!! I HAVE A FAMILY AND KIDS THAT HAS TO GO EVERYDAY THINGS AND HAVING THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN A PAIN. I THINK NISSAN NEEDS TO TRY MORE TO CONTACT THERE CUSTOMER AND LET THEM KNOW. I KNOW I'VE HAD THE SAME ADDRESS AND WAS NEVER NOTICED! SO KNOW I TOOK IT TO NISSAN AND THERE TELLING ME I HAVE TO PAY 220$ FOR THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR?? IM LIKE WHAT.. THE ONLY THING THERE DOING IS REPROGRAMMING IT!! *TR
