THE ENGINE SOMETIME STALL AND RAV HIGH WHEN TURNING CORNER
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BREAK PEDAL SHE WOULD HEAR AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE. SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE A TECHNICIAN STATED THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE HER FRONT BREAK CALIPERS AT AN EXPENSE OF $1000.00. SHE HAS NOT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 49,000.
TAKATA RECALL THE CAR OFTEN DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THAT THE PASSENGER SEAT IS OCCUPIED. SOMETIMES IT TAKES MINUTES AND SOMETIMES NOT AT ALL. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I AM DRIVING IT.
I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA SEDAN THAT HAD THE REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN TWO. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP HAD MENTIONED THAT IT IS NOT A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, BUT UPON AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTION BY A 3RD PARTY MECHANIC, THERE WAS NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO THE AREA SURROUND THE AREA WHERE THE SWAY BAR SNAPPED. ALSO, THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS MANUFACTURED AS A HOLLOW TUBE AND THEREFORE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT THE TENSION. THE SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN THE CONNECTION POINT WHERE IT WAS MOUNTED ON THE CHASSIS OF THE VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE READ ABOUT OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME VEHICLE WHICH HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM. 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5SE REAR SWAY BAR SNAPPED IN TWO WHILE DRIVING. THERE WERE NO DAMAGE TO THE SURROUNDING AREA WHERE THE BAR SNAPPED. AT CLOSE INSPECTION, THE BAR IS HOLLOW INSIDE. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSOR IN THE SEAT OFTEN DOES NOT DETECT SOMEONE IN THE SEAT AND WILL DISCONNECT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM FROM DEPLOYING IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. SPOKE WITH A NISSAN TECH WHO SAID THE SENSOR IN OPERATING NORMAL; HOWEVER, I KNOW MANY PEOPLE TO INCLUDE THE TECH'S AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE! *TR
WHILE TRAVELING APPROX 50MPH APPROACHING A CURVE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND CAR WOULD NOT STOP. DRIVER NOTICED TRAFFIC SLOWING AND REACTED BY SHIFTING CAR TO NEUTRAL AND SLOWLY APPLYING PARKING BRAKE. DOING SUCH CAUSED CAR TO FISHTAIL AND SLIDE (AS ROADS WERE WET) AND CAUSED A COLLISION. DRIVER HAS COMPLAINED SINCE 2007 TO DEALERSHIP REGARDING BRAKES AND TOLD EACH TIME (4 COMPLAINTS) THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH BRAKES. BRAKES WERE "REPLACED" 6 MONTHS AGO BY DEALERSHIP (CUSTOMER PAID) HOWEVER BRAKE ISSUES STILL REMAINED. SUCH NEGLIGENCE HAS RESULTED IN A CAR ACCIDENT AND THOUSANDS IN PROPERTY DAMAGE. *TR
NO PARTICULAR EVENTS; LOW TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. NOT SURE OF OCCURRENCE INTERVAL BUT HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT THE LIGHT STAYS ON CONTINUOUSLY AND OCCASIONALLY STARTS TO BLINK RESULTING IN DRIVER CONCERN OVER NOTHING. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAY "NO PROBLEM WITH SENSORS BUT RECOMMEND SETTING AIR PRESSURE TO 38 PSI TO GET LIGHT TO STAY OFF" WHICH IS 6PSI ABOVE AIR PRESSURE DECAL ON DOOR FRAME THAT RECOMMENDS 32 PSI. THEY SAY THIS PRESSURE (38 PSI) WILL NOT IMPACT TIRE WEAR WHICH I DISAGREE WITH COMPLETELY AS WELL AS IF YOU HAVE A 10% PRESSURE BUILD UP FROM NORMAL DRIVING IT WOULD EXCEED THE TIRE MANUFACTURER MAXIMUM TIRE PRESSURE OF 41PSI. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL SET LIGHT KEEPS FLASHING INTERMITTENTLY, WON'T SHUT OFF JUST FLASHES CRUISE CONTROL SET. *TR
MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S HAS HAD A ONGOING PROBLEM FOR MORE THEN A YEAR NOW. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN A PASSENGER IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE LIGHT STATING AIR BAG IS OFF COMES ON. THE INDIVIDUALS IN THE SEAT ARE OVER 100 POUNDS IN WEIGHT. NISSAN HAS TOLD ME THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE WAY WE ARE SITTING AND THAT THE AIRBAG "SHOULD" WORK. SHOULD IS NOT A OPTION. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN MANY TIMES TO NO AVAIL, INCLUDING A "EXPERT" FROM NISSAN TO FIX THE PROBLEM. CAR IS GOING BACK FOR THE DOCUMENTED 6TH TIME ON THIS CONCERN. *TR
ON 12/13/2008 AT 9:00 A.M. MY 24 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER ENTERED HER 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA AND WAS GOING X-MAS SHOPPING. THE ENTRANCE TO THE EXPRESSWAY IS LESS THEN ONE QUARTER MILE. SHE ENTERED THE EXPRESSWAY AND CHANGED LANES TO THE FAR LEFT. APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE OF DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY HER STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO NAVIGATE THE STEERING. SHE STARTED TO BRAKE AND AS SHE WAS ATTEMPTING TO NAVIGATE AND SLOW HER VEHICLE ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SPIN CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO THE MEDIAN WALL. NO INJURIES, NO OTHER VEHICLES DAMAGED BUT HER VEHICLE HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT GRILL ,FENDERS AND BUMPER. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHENEVER SOMEONE SITS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD FLASH INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG WAS DEACTIVATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER ON MARCH 9TH TO HAVE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR REPLACED. IN DECEMBER THE PROBLEM RECURRED WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG WAS OFF. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE AIR BAG LIGHT AND SENSOR AND THEY SENT A TECHNICIAN TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT RECREATE THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT OR SENSOR; THEREFORE, THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE RISK INVOLVED DUE TO THE AIR BAG SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING AND THE POTENTIAL FOR A SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT A CRASH OCCURS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,211.
ONE WEEK AFTER TAKING MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND SOME RECALLS, I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD DURING STARTUP. UPON FURTHER DIAGNOSIS, THE NOISE WOULD COME BACK WHEN THE A/C WAS TURNED OFF. THE IRONIC PART IS, THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE DEALERSHIP HAD SEEN MY CAR SINCE THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. NOW, ANOTHER WEEK LATER, THE A/C WILL NOT EVEN WORK, AND NO REPAIR SHOP CAN REPAIR IT EXCEPT THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
I OWN A 2007 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION NISSAN ALTIMA THAT PERSISTENTLY MALFUNCTIONS. SINCE THAT NOVEMBER DATE AND HAVING REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON JANUARY 5, 2009, I HAVE EXPERIENCED ON THE HIGHWAY AND CITY STREETS WITH PASSENGERS, THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT UPSHIFT, WOULD NOT DOWNSHIFT, NOR RELEASE FROM THE POSITION IT WAS IN. AFTER REPEATEDLY RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME UNDER WARRANTY REPAIR, THE SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS TO DATE! DESPITE THE DEALERSHIPS CLAIM OF CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT, PRESSURE PLATE AND DISC REPLACEMENT, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL CEASE TO OCCUR, AS IT IS IDIOPATHIC AND THE RE-OCCURRENCE IS UNPREDICTABLE. THUS, OPERATING THIS VEHICLE COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTAL INJURY OR EVEN DEATH. I CONTINUE TO REPORT MY CONCERN TO NISSAN NORTH AMERICA USA AND TO DATE HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY SATISFACTION TO QUELL THE UNSAFE FEAR FACTOR IN OWNING AND OPERATING THIS VEHICLE THAT HAS NOT OWNED UP TO THE NISSAN MANUFACTURER'S MONIKER, "MADE TO DRIVE. BUILT TO LAST." THIS INTERNET CORRESPONDENCE SERVES AS MY OFFICIAL COMPLAINT AND REQUEST FOR THE OFFICE OF DEFECTS INVESTIGATION (ODI) TO OPEN AN INVESTIGATION REGARDING THE 2007 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION NISSAN ALTIMA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THERE WAS AN OCCUPANT SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME. WHENEVER THE AIR BAG SYSTEM DETECTED THAT AN OCCUPANT WAS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V521000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,300. UPDATED 08/21/09. *LJ UPDATED 08/26/09. *JB
AIR BAG FAILURE NISSAN HYBRID-- THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG AUTOMATICALLY DEACTIVATED ITSELF EVEN WHEN ADULT (EG. 110 POUNDS AND 5FEET 2 INCHES TALL) SITS UPRIGHT. IT ALSO DEACTIVATES OR ACTIVATES FREQUENTLY WHEN THE PASSENGER IS NOT ADJUSTING HIS/HER POSITION AND THERE IS NO NOTICEABLE CHANGE IN ROAD CONDITION. THE BEHAVIOR IS ERRATIC AND HAPPENS 75% OF THE TIME. I AM AFRAID FOR THE LACK OF PROTECTION BY THE AIR BAG SYSTEMS IN THE CASE OF DISASTER. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY NISSAN SO FAR. 2 DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AREN'T ABLE TO EXPLAIN THE SYMPTOMS. ONE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT SHOULD WORK BEYOND 120 POUNDS. NISSAN'S GUIDELINE IS FIFTY POUNDS AND NOT 100. THE OTHER DEALERSHIP RAN AN ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSTIC ON THE CIRCUITRY AND DIDN'T IDENTIFY ANY MALFUNCTION. *TR
ON THE DASHBOARD THERE IS A PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR. THE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I HAVE A FULL GROWN ADULT. ACCORDING TO THE MANUAL THE LIGHT SHOULD NOT COME ON WHEN THERE IS AN ADULT IN THE SEAT. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THE SENSOR SHOULDN'T TRIP UNLESS THERE IS SOMEONE THAT WEIGHS LESS THEN 100 LBS. MY PASSENGER IS CLOSE TO 200 LBS, BUT THE SENSOR STILL INDICATES THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SYSTEM IS OFF. THIS HAPPENS MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF THE LAST MONTH. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT SERVICED. *TR
OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM CAUSES ENGINE TO LOSE OIL AND RUN ROUGH, RATTLE, MISS. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING WITHIN 2,500 MILES AFTER EACH OIL CHANGE. THE DEALER ONLY NOW ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT'S LOST OIL, BUT IS REQUIRING THAT I DRIVE IT AGAIN FOR 1,000 MILES TO RUN AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THE FIX IS APPARENTLY A NEW ENGINE. *TR
I OWNED A 2007 ALTIMA AT THE TIME. THE PROBLEM OCCURS AT SPEEDS OVER 45 MPH. IF EMERGENCY BRAKES ARE SLAMMED AND LOCKUP UNTIL VEHICLE COMES TO COMPLETE STOP THE THROTTLE BECOMES TOTALLY UNRESPONSIVE FOR UP TO 1 MINUTE. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AT AN INTERSECTION AND SCARED THE'!@#$% OUT OF ME. SIMILAR THING OCCURRED A FEW DAYS LATER. I DECIDED TO TEST IF THIS ISSUE CAN BE DUPLICATED. IT CAN WITH ALMOST 100% ACCURACY. TOOK CAR TO DEALERSHIP. DUPLICATED THE ISSUE FOR THEIR CONFIRMATION AND LEFT CAR FOR EXAMINATION. ACCORDING TO SERVICE REP "IT IS TO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE CAR IN THIS CONDITION\". A FEW HOURS LATER GOT A CALL FROM DEALER WITH THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATION. THEY TESTED THIS ISSUE AND WERE ABLE TO REPEAT IT ON 3 IDENTICAL CARS. APPARENTLY MANUFACTURER TOLD THEM THAT THIS IS AN EXPECTED BEHAVIOR TO PROTECT CERTAIN COMPONENTS OF A CAR TRANSMISSION. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH NISSAN USA AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NOT A DEFECT BUT A DESIGN TO PROTECT TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TAKEN SEVERAL OTHER ALTIMAS FOR TEST DRIVE AND SPOKE TO A NUMBER OF PEOPLE. APPARENTLY THIS ISSUE AFFECTS ALL ALTIMAS EQUIPPED WITH CVT BUT NOT WITH ABS. I BELIEVE THAT ABS ALLOWS TRANSMISSION TO ROTATE THUS CORRECTING THE ISSUE. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED NOT BEEN ABLE TO MOVE A CAR FOR UP TO A MINUTE AFTER AN EMERGENCY BRAKING COULD BE MORE DANGEROUS THEN THE EMERGENCY ITSELF. CAN YOU VISUALIZE YOUR SELF BEING STUCK AT AN INTERSECTION (HAPPENED TO ME) OR ON A HIGHWAY? THIS ISSUE CAN BE EASILY DUPLICATED . I HAVE TRADED MY CAR IN AS I WAS TOO SCARED TO DRIVE IT. *TR
WHEN DEPRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT COME ON. THIS IS CAUSED DIFFICULTY FOR CAR TO START. BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH SETTING WAS ADJUSTED OVER THE NEXT TWO YEARS, BUT FINALLY IN MARCH OF 2011 I NOTICED IT AGAIN WHILE FOLLOWING THE CAR HOME ONE NIGHT THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT COMING ON. IT TURNS OUT THAT NISSAN HAD AN NTB10-139 ON THIS PROBLEM CALLING FOR COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY AND HARNESS. THIS LOSS OF BRAKE LIGHTS WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THE DRIVER IS SAFETY HAZARD. NISSAN HAS BEEN AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL. I HAD TO PAY $430 TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE ON APRIL 1, 2011. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE GREENHYBRID.COM WEBSITE. *TR
I HAVE TAKEN MY ALTIMA TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSOR FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT INDICATING THAT THE AIR BAG IS FUNCTIONING IS COMING ON AND OFF RANDOMLY WHEN SOMEONE IS SEATED THERE. SOMETIMES IT WILL INDICATE THAT THE AIR BAGS ARE SHUT OFF FOR THE ENTIRE TIME THAT SOMEONE IS SEATED, AND SOMETIMES IT WILL COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THIS IS IRREGARDLESS OF THE WEIGHT OF THE PASSENGER. ALSO, IT WILL MALFUNCTION WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I AM UNSURE WHETHER THE AIR BAG WILL FUNCTION IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT IN THIS STATE. NISSAN HAS REPLACED THE PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION 3 TIMES WITH NO EFFECT, AND TELLS US THAT IS THE ONLY PART THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. LAUGHABLY, THEY ALSO TELL ME THAT THE PASSENGERS MUST BE SQUIRMING AROUND. BASED ON THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS THAT ARE FILED HERE, I FEEL THAT IT IS PRUDENT FOR NHTSA TO TAKE ACTION. *TR
ON 6/2/2008, I REPORTED TO THE NISSAN DEALER THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ALERT LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON SEVERAL INTERMITTENT OCCASIONS WHEN AN ADULT WAS FULLY SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE DEALER CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED: "INSPECTED EVERYTHING WORKING AS DESIGNED". ON 10/2/2008, NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V521000 REPORTED A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 12/4/2008 AND THE DEALER PERFORMED NISSAN'S TEST FOR THE PROBLEM UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER REPORTED THAT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. ON THE NEXT DAY AND TWICE MORE IN THE FOLLOWING SEVERAL DAYS, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ALERT LIGHT WAS AGAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN AN ADULT WAS FULLY SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 1/7/2009 AND THE DEALER AGAIN CHECKED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NISSAN'S PROCEDURES AND STATED THAT NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. IT SEEMS CLEAR THAT NISSAN'S PROCEDURE EMPLOYED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECALL IS NOT FULLY RELIABLE IN DIAGNOSING THE CONDITION THAT CAUSES THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THIS LEAVES FRONT SEAT PASSENGERS IN POTENTIAL DANGER. *TR
2007 NISSAN ALTIMA BROKEN RUSTED STABILIZER BAR SNAPPED AND HAS SUBSEQUENTLY DAMAGED RIGHT FRONT AXLE, LOWER ARM BAR AND CV BOOT. NISSAN SERVICE REFUSAL TO COVER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
THE DRIVER SEAT ON MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID IS LOOSE IN ITS TRACKS. THE DEALER ALLEGEDLY CHANGED THE TRACKS AT APPROX 5K MILES. I NOW HAVE 9K MILES ON THE CAR AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO DO ANY MORE, STATING 'WE CHANGED THE SEAT TRACK"..AND WENT AS FAR AS TELLING ME ITS NOT A PROBLEM, AND REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, EVEN AS WE LOOK AT A COMPARABLE 2008 MODEL. THE SEAT MOVES WHEN TAKING CORNERS, CREATING A POTENTIAL LOSS OF CONTROL, AND A CERTAIN ANNOYANCE. *TR
THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S. AS INDICATED BY THE SAFETY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG IN MY VEHICLE WILL TURN ON AND OFF REPEATEDLY WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE SEAT. THIS IS DESPITE KNOWING THE PASSENGER WEIGHS FAR MORE (OVER 150 LBS) THAN THE SAFETY LIMITS FOR WHICH THE AIRBAG SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO TURN OFF. THE AIRBAG INDICATOR WILL LIGHT NOTIFYING US THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG HAS TURNED OFF AND WILL OFTEN REMAIN LIT FOR 20-30 MINUTES AT A TIME, BUT THE TIME WILL VARY. BUT ALMOST 60-70% OF THE TIME WHEN I HAVE A PASSENGER IN MY VEHICLE FOR LONGER THAN 5 MINUTES, AT SOME POINT IN THE TRIP THE AIRBAG WILL TURN OFF FOR A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME. THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND I HAVE NOTIFIED NISSAN CORPORATE, NEITHER OF WHICH HAS RESULTED IN ANYTHING BEYOND A CURSORY INSPECTION WHICH RESULTED IN NO ACTION BEING DONE. THIS HAS BEEN ON-GOING FOR SOME TIME NOW. THE "INCIDENT DATE" REPORTED BELOW IS WHEN I FIRST BEGAN TO NOTICE THE ISSUE. BUT AGAIN, THIS IS AN ON-GOING ISSUE. I DRIVE A 2007 ALTIMA AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF AND AT TIMES STAYS ON FOR A WHILE, UP TO 15 MILES WHILE DRIVING. EXITED INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, TRAVELED UP RAMP, WAS UNABLE TO LIFT LEFT FOOT TO BRAKE (POSSIBLY CAUGHT UNDER PARKING BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH IS CLOSE TO THE BRAKE), TRAVELED THROUGH INTERSECTION AND HIT GUARD RAIL, CAUSING $8,800 DAMAGE TO MY 7-MO.-OLD LEASED 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE WHOLE FRONT END CRUMBLED. BECAUSE I WAS NOT WEARING A SEAT BELT, I WAS THROWN INTO THE WINDSHIELD, HITTING AND SMASHING THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AND CRACKING THE WINDSHIELD. PURCHASED A 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S. 1. FIRST PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I HEARD A LOUD RATTLING NOISE WHEN I START THE CAR (THIS WAS 2 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR). INCREASE RPM TO 1.5 RPM TO GET A LOUDER, CRISPER NOISE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE HEAT SHIELD WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOOK 2 WEEKS FOR THE DEALER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. NOISE WENT AWAY. 2. NOISE CAME BACK AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER AFTER IT WAS FIXED. BROUGHT IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT TO GET DIFFERENT OPINION. FINDS OUT THE HEAT SHIELD WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. RESOLVED, AND LATER TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS NOISE. 3. HAD A 110LB PASSENGER ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND THE AIR BAG OFF LIGHT TURNED ON. HAVE YET TO GO TO THE DEALER TO SEE WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. 4. AFTER ALL THIS, I START THE CAR ON DECEMBER 10TH, 2008 AND DID NOT WARM UP CAR. WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE CAR ON STREET, CLICKING NOISES STARTED TO EMERGE. I AM WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A SAFETY CONCERN I HAVE WITH MY 2007 NISSAN ALTIMA HYBRID. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH TCS AND VDC. ON DECEMBER 13, 2007 WE GOT APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES OF SNOW DURING THE DAY WHILE I WAS AT WORK. ON MY WAY HOME I APPROACHED SWITZER HILL ROAD AND SAW THAT IT HAD BEEN SANDED SO I TURNED AND STARTED UP THE HILL. APPROXIMATELY 40 YARDS UP THE HILL THE TCS LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR STOPPED. THE FRONT WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN AT ALL. I WAS FORCED TO TURN AROUND ON THE HILL AND COME BACK DOWN. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT NO ONE WAS COMING DOWN THE HILL AT THAT TIME OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS FOR MY SELF AND/OR OTHERS. THE OWNER'S MANUAL FOR THE VEHICLE REFERS TO AN OFF SWITCH FOR BOTH THE TCS AND VDC SYSTEMS IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. THE MANUFACTURE HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE SYSTEM MAY NEED TO BE TURNED OFF. MY VEHICLE HAS NEITHER SWITCH INSTALLED SO I AM UNABLE TO TURN OFF EITHER SYSTEM IN THE EVENT I AM IN HEAVY SNOW OR MUD. THE NON HYBRID VERSION OF THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SWITCH INSTALLED AS PER THE OWNER'S MANUAL. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER AND NISSAN BOTH IN WRITING AND ON THE PHONE. THEY HAVE STATED THAT THE SYSTEM IS WORKING PROPERLY BECAUSE IT DOES APPLY BRAKE TO THE WHEEL THAT IS SLIPPING, AND ALSO REDUCE POWER FROM THE ENGINE. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SYSTEM WORKS TOO WELL. THE VEHICLE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND STRAND THE OPERATOR. WITH OUT THE OFF SWITCH THERE IS NO WAY TO MOVE A STUCK VEHICLE. THE REASON I WAS GIVEN FOR THE SWITCH HAVING NOT BEEN INSTALL IS THAT THEY THOUGHT IT MIGHT CAUSE THE BATTERY TO BE DISCHARGED. AS PER THE MANUAL THE SYSTEM AUTOMATICALLY TURNS BACK ON WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. NISSAN ONLY SELLS THE HYBRID IN A LIMITED NUMBER OF STATES.
