TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT, WHICH CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH INTO BALES OF HAY. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DID NOT DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
DASHBOARD IS STICKY, MELTING AND CAUSING VISUAL GLARE IMPENDING SITE. *TR
I OWN A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA AND ITS DASHBOARD IS MELTING. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THIS PHENOMENON IS SIMPLY EMBARRASSING FOR A GOOD COMPANY SUCH NISSAN. *TR
MY DASHBOARD HAS STARTED TO MELT. IT MAKES THE DASHBOARD VERY STICKY AS IF IT IS AN ADHESIVE PRODUCT AND TURNS COLORS. DUE TO THIS OVER TIME, THE VIEW OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD IS OBSTRUCTED BY A GLARE FROM ANY LIGHT SOURCE WHETHER ITS FROM THE SUN OR FROM A STREET LAMP. I DO NOT USE ANY CLEANING PRODUCTS OTHER THAN A WET RANG FOR THE DASH WHEN CLEANING THE CAR, AND I TAKE PRIDE IN MY VEHICLE. SINCE MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, NISSAN WOULD NOT REPLACE THE DASH EVEN THOUGH THIS IS AN SAFETY ISSUE AS SOME PEDESTRIANS OR ROAD HAZARDS ARE ALMOST UNAVOIDABLE DUE TO THE GLARE. IN ADDITION, EVERYTHING STICKS TO THE DASH INCLUDING PAPER, SUN VISORS, AND EVEN BUGS AS I AM LOCATED IN MIAMI, FL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAT FROM THE SUN MELTED THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
POWER DOOR LOCKS MALFUNCTIONING ON 3 OF THE 4 DOORS. DEPENDING ON DAY, SOMETIMES ONE OR MORE LOCKS WILL NOT LOCK WHEN USING KEY FOB OR WHEN USING POWER LOCK BUTTON ON DRIVER DOOR. AT OTHER TIMES, ONE OR MORE LOCKS WILL NOT OPEN WHEN USING KEY FOB OR WHEN USING POWER LOCK BUTTON ON DRIVER DOOR. I AM FEARFUL THAT AFTER A CRASH I WILL TRY TO UNLOCK DOORS TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE ALSO FOUND MY DOORS UNLOCKED WHEN RETURNING TO MY VEHICLE, EVEN AFTER HITTING THE LOCK BUTTON WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE. I AM FEARFUL THAT A CAR THIEF OR MURDERER MAY HAVE ACCESS TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE TRIED TO ACCESS MY VEHICLE QUICKLY IN DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOODS, BUT I'VE HAD TO TRY MULTIPLE TIMES TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. *TR
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
SECTIONS OF MY FRONT DASH ARE MELTING. THE DETERIORATION HAS LEFT THE DASH IN A TAR LIKE STATE THAT IS STICKY AND SHINY. THE REFLECTION FROM THE SUN IS SO BRIGHT THAT DRIVING IS DIFFICULT AROUND NOON. THE CAR IS PARKED IN A GARAGE 90% OF THE TIME SO THERE IS NO REASON OTHER THAN POOR QUALITY FOR THIS TO HAVE HAPPENED. I HAVE CONTACTED MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN DIRECTLY AND THEY BOTH ARE UNWILLING TO OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AS THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THAT BUT IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I AM WORRIED THAT IF THE GLARE PREVENTS ME FROM SEEING ANOTHER CAR OR PEDESTRIAN SOMEONE COULD BE INJURED. NISSAN SHOULD ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR QUALITY AND RECTIFY THE PROBLEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS. *TR
THE DASH HAS BEGUN MELTING AND THE MATTE FINISH HAS BECOME VERY SHINY AND CAST AN EXTREME GLARE ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE IN SUNNY CONDITIONS. *TR
THE DASHBOARD HAS MELTED AND IS NOW A SHINY STICKY BLACK SURFACE THAT CANNOT BE REPAIRED. I DID NOT USE ANY CHEMICALS ON THE DASHBOARD BEFORE THIS STARTED APPEARING. ALSO, THE DASHBOARD EMITS GASES THAT FOG THE WINDOW AND CANNOT BE FIXED BY DEFROST. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR IS MELTING AND WHEN THE SUN IS IN A LOWER POSITION IT WILL CAUSE A REFLECTION ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. THIS CONDITION BEGAN SHORTLY AFTER THE AUTO IN QUESTION PASSED 60,000 MILES AND HAS GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE ENSUING YEARS
INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM LIGHT IS ON AND CAR WILL NOT START. BRAKE WILL NOT FULLY PRESS AND ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN BUTTON IS PUSHED. ALL DASH LIGHTS/INDICATORS COME ON, AS WELL AS LIGHTS AND RADIO. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN NISSAN ALTIMAS REGARDLESS OF THE YEAR MODEL. *TR
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE TRIED TO START THE CAR BUT THE BRAKE RESISTS BEING PRESSED IN. I PRESS THE PUSH TO START BUTTON BUT THE CAR DOES NOT START, ONLY THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND RADIO COME ON (AS THOUGH I AM NOT PUSHING THE BREAK IN). I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY BRAKE SWITCH AND HARNESS FOR THE LOW, LOW PRICE OF $500. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT SO THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE THAT IT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN IMMEDIATELY, AS I SEE ALL OVER THE WEB THAT EVERYONE WITH A 2007 OR 2008 ALTIMA IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WHAT ARE RECALLS FOR EXCEPT FOR PRECISELY THIS TYPE OF ISSUE?? *TR
THE AUTOMATIC DOOR SYSTEM IN THIS CAR IS NON-FUNCTIONAL, ALL 4 DOOR DO NOT LOCK OR OPEN. IT HAS TO BE DONE MANUALLY. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING CAUSING A GLARE THAT IS A DANGER IN SEEING PROPERLY. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. STARTED 3 YEARS AGO, WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP TO CLEAN IT. IT HAS INCREASED IN SIZE AND NOTHING CLEANS IT. THE GLARE ONTO THE WINDOW IS TERRIBLE, DANGEROUS. HAS A STRANGE SMELL TO IT.
I DROVE MY CAR YESTERDAY WITHOUT ANY INCIDENTS. I HAVE NOTICED THIS "KEY" SYMBOL ON DASH WARNING LIGHT INDICATING I NEEDED TO INSERT THE KEY INTO THE CAR IN ORDER TO START THE CAR FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS. THERE IS NO DIAGNOSTIC CODE AND I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP AT NISSAN THAT IT WAS JUST INDICATING LOW BATTERY ON THE KEY REMOTE (EVEN THO I JUST REPLACED THE BATTERY IN NOVEMBER). I WENT TO START MY CAR THIS MORNING AND ALTHOUGH THE DASH LIGHTS UP, THE CAR WILL NOT START. I TRIED TO JUMP START IT AND STILL WOULDN'T START. THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND THE DASH LIGHTS UP, BUT THE CAR WILL NOT TURN OVER AT ALL. THERE ISN'T A FAST CLICKING SOUND LIKE IT COULD BE THE STARTER. THE KEY DOESN'T WORK TO UNLOCK THE DOORS OR THE TRUNK EITHER. APPARENTLY THIS IS AS A RESULT OF A FAULTY STEERING LOCK UNIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INTELLIGENT KEY WOULD NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS FOR A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. AFTER THE DOORS WERE UNLOCKED, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT THE NO KEY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT THEN CHANGED THE BATTERIES IN THE KEY FOB BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
WAS DRIVING DOWN MAJOR HIGHWAY IN NJ AND CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN RAPIDLY. WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD BEFORE COMPLETELY DYING. CAR WAS TOWED TO TRANSMISSION REPAIR PLACE AND COST 2000 TO REPAIR. NOW IN 2015 I HAVE THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. CAR NEEDED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION AT THE TUNE OF 2000 MORE DOLLARS. THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE KNOWN FOR TROUBLE. IF SOMEONE'S GOING DOWN STREET IN FAST LANE AND THIS HAPPENS THEY CAN BE KILLED. IT GIVES NO WARNING AT ALL WHEN IT'S ABOUT TO FAIL. I DO BELIEVE NISSAN SHOULD REPAIR/REPLACE THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. COULD BE ME OR MY FAMILY. THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTS ABOUT THIS I HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE FAST. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON SAYING OFF WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS IN CAR.
SINCE 6/2013 THE DASHBOARD OF THIS VEHICLE IS EMITTING A STICKY, SHINY, SUBSTANCE, WHICH LIKELY INDICATES DETERIORATION OF THE COMPOSITION OF THE DASHBOARD, MAKING DRIVING HAZARDOUS, AS IT MAKES VISIBILITY OUT THE WINDSHIELD DIFFICULT. THE STICKY SUBSTANCE IS HIGHLY REFLECTIVE, MAKING DRIVING IN THE SUN VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE MADE MULTIPLE TRIPS TO OUR NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION, AND ALTHOUGH THEY INDICATE THAT THEY HAVE OBSERVED THIS SITUATION WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL/YEAR, THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. I ALSO CONTACTED CONSUMER SERVICES WITH NISSAN AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD, EVEN THOUGH IT PRESENTS A HAZARD TO DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR

NOW THE AREAS THAT ARE CONTINUING TO MELT HAVE BECOME SHINY AND WHEN THE SUN HITS IT AT THE RIGHT ANGLE (EARLY MORNING, AND SUNSET) IT CAUSES A DISTRACTING GLARE TO BE CAST ON THE WINDSHIELD. AT CERTAIN TIMES IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME WITHOUT LOOKING OFF TO THE SIDE OR WEARING SUNGLASSES TO AVOID THE GLARE. SAFETY CONCERNS NOTWITHSTANDING, I AM NOT ENJOYING THE CONSTANT HEADACHES CAUSED BY THE GLARE I AM SUBJECTED TO DURING MY DAILY COMMUTE. THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING, GETTING SHINY AND STICKY. THE SUN REFLECTS OFF THE DASHBOARD ONTO THE WINDSHIELD, OBSCURING VISION. THIS CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED, MY VISION WAS PRETTY MUCH BLINDED. HAD THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME ELECTED TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN AT THAT TIME, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

THE LOCK/UNLOCK ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS GONE OUT. THE ONLY WAY THAT THE DOORS CAN BE LOCKED OR UNLOCKED IS BY MANUALLY DOING IT WITH THE KEY OUTSIDE THE CAR OR YOUR HANDS INSIDE THE CAR. *TR
THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS BEEN MELTING FOR OVER A YEAR AND A HALF AND IS NOW CAUSING SUCH A LARGE AND INTENSE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE DURING DAYTIME HOURS AND AT NIGHT WHEN DRIVING UNDER LIGHTS. THE DASHBOARD IS CONSTANTLY STICKY AND COMES OFF IN CHUNKS WHEN YOU TOUCH IT. I HAVE SEARCHED FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND FOUND SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME HAVE EVEN REPORTED ISSUES/POSSIBLE ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAGS. IT WASN'T UNTIL TODAY WHEN I SEARCHED AGAIN, HOPING OTHERS MAY HAVE COME UP WITH A SOLUTION, THAT I FOUND A THREAD ON FACEBOOK (HTTPS://WWW.FACEBOOK.COM/NISSANUSA/POSTS/10152938385130375) DISCUSSING ACTIONS TO TAKE TO BETTER THIS SITUATION. ONE NISSAN OWNER SUGGESTED FILING A COMPLAINT HERE. SOME OWNERS HAVE REPORTED QUOTES FROM NISSAN DEALERSHIPS RANGING FROM $300 TO OVER $2500 WHEN NISSAN KNOWS OF THIS DEFECT AND IT IS NOT IN ANY WAY CAUSED BY THE CAR OWNERS. DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND TURNED STICKY. NO LONGER HAS A MATTE FINISH AND NOW HAS A HIGH GLOSS FINISH THAT PRODUCES A GLARE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. REFLECTION ON WINDSHIELD LOOKS LIKE A HEADS UP DISPLAY. THE AREA IS FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE AND INCLUDING THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG AREA. UNKNOWN IF THE AIRBAG WOULD DEPLOY PROPERLY THROUGH THE DECOMPOSING MATERIAL USED TO MANUFACTURE THE DASHBOARD. INTERNET SEARCH OF THE ISSUE SHOWS MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS EXACT ISSUE WITH THE 2008 AND EARLY 2009 MODEL COUPE. ALMOST ALL HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN HOT SOUTHERN CLIMATES OF FLORIDA, TEXAS AND CALIFORNIA. NO CLEANING PRODUCTS WERE EVER USED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE DECOMPOSITION APPEARS TO BE A RESULT OF HIGH TEMPERATURES INSIDE THE CABIN PRODUCED WHEN PARKED OUTSIDE IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. *TR

BECAUSE OF THAT I TEND TO NOT DRIVE IT OFTEN. ALSO ITS GIVING OFF THE SMELL OF BURNED PLASTIC. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. RAMSEY NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED MY WORN ROTORS WITH "WARPED" ROTORS...I NEED REPLACEMENT OF BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS, ACCORDING TO RAMSEY NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INSTALLED, ALLEGEDLY, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURED BRAKES AND ROTORS TO REPLACE MY WORN PARTS. THE DAY I PICKED MY CAR BACK UP FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, I DROVE OUT OF THE DEALERSHIP PARKING LOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY - IT ONLY TOOK THE FIRST BRAKE, LITERALLY, GOING AT AROUND 40-50 MPH TO NOTICE THAT MY CAR WAS SHAKING. CONFUSED, I IMMEDIATELY CALLED NISSAN SERVICE TO LET THEM KNOW WHAT I WAS EXPERIENCING. THEY ASSURED ME THAT THIS WAS THE NORMAL "BREAK IN" PERIOD FOR THE BRAKES AND THAT I WOULD LIKELY EXPERIENCE THIS FOR THE NEXT 500-1000 MILES; KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAD NO REASON TO NOT BELIEVE THEM AS I WAS CONFIDENT THEY HAD AT LEAST TESTED THE BRAKES/ROTORS BEFORE GIVING THE CAR BACK TO ME. APPROXIMATELY 5-6 WEEKS LATER, I WAS STILL EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE; NISSAN SERVICE LATER CONFIRMED THAT MY FRONT ROTORS WERE "WARPED". NISSAN SERVICE HAD ULTIMATELY INSTALLED INADEQUATE AND FAULTY ROTORS IN MY CAR. ACCORDING TO A INDIVIDUAL AUTO MECHANIC WHO RUNS INSPECTIONS, MY CAR WOULD IMMEDIATELY FAIL INSPECTION. CLEARLY, WITH THESE FAULTY ROTORS, MY BRAKING ABILITY WAS SEVERELY DIMINISHED; IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THE LAST THING I WOULD WANT TO BE UNSURE OF IS MY BRAKES/ROTORS, WHICH SHOULD BE WORKING 100 OUT OF 100 TIMES IN EXTREME SITUATIONS. THESE WERE ROTORS WOULD CAUSE MY CAR TO FAIL INSPECTION AND THUS PUT IN DANGER THE LIVES OF ME, MY FAMILY, AND THE PEOPLE AROUND ME. HAD I KNOWN THAT THESE WERE FAULTY ROTORS, I IMMEDIATELY WOULD HAVE HAD THEM REPLACED. BUT I DROVE AROUND FOR OVER A MONTH WITH A BRAKING SYSTEM THAT WOULD FAIL INSPECTION. *TR
2008 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE'S DASHBOARD IS MELTING. I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND APPARENTLY NISSAN DIDN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE WEATHER HERE WHEN USING MATERIAL FOR THEIR DASHBOARDS ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL. THE WHOLE TOP DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND LOOKS LIKE A WET SUBSTANCE. BECAUSE OF THIS IT CREATES AN INTENSE GLARE THAT IS A SEVER SAFETY HAZARD WHEN DRIVING. I CALLED 1800-NISSAN AND THEY DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING EVEN THOUGH THEY USED FAULTY MATERIAL. THIS IS A KNOWN CONCERN SINCE OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. IF U DO A GOOGLE SEARCH OF THIS ISSUE, YOU'LL FIND ITS A VERY COMMON PROBLEMS FOR NEARLY ALL NISSAN ALTIMA (2008) WHO LIVE IN SOUTHERN CLIMATES AND NISSAN WILL NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS ISSUES, DOES SOMEONE HAS TO DIE IN A ACCIDENT OR GET DISMEMBERED ? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.

THE CONTACT RAN AN INDEPENDENT DIAGNOSTIC TEST, WHICH DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE STEERING COLUMN, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I HAD ONLY ONE ISSUE WITH MY 08 ALTIMA. THE CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY NOT RECOGNIZE EITHER OF THE KEY-FOBS FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE NO REASON. IT DID NOT SEEM TO MATTER WHAT TIME OF DAY, TEMP., OR WEATHER. I EVEN REPLACED THE BATTERIES OF THE KEY-FOBS AND THE CARS BATTERY AS WELL. (WHICH WAS SUGGESTED AS THE FIRST TRY TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM). ON MAY 3, 2013 WITH ABOUT 66,000 MILES OR SO (STILL A BABY AS FAR AS CAR MILEAGE GOES) I HAD NO ISSUES STARTING THE CAR OR WITH IT RECOGNIZING THE KEY-FOB. THE 'ISSUE" HAPPENED AS I WAS MAKING A LANE CHANGE. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE CAR CAUSING US (2 CHILDREN AND MYSELF) TO CRASH. MY CAR WAS TOTALED... I STARTED TO NOTICE STICKY SPOTS AN MY DASH ABOUT 12 MONTHS AGO. NOW IT IS COVERING MOST OF THE DASH. THIS IS CREATING A PROBLEM WHEN I AM DRIVING DURING THE DAY .IF I AM DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN THE GLARE COMING OFF OF THE DASH IS ALMOST BLINDING. I PURCHASED MY NISSAN ALTIMA USED IN 2012. A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, I NOTICED STICKY SPOTS ON MY DASHBOARD. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT I HAD CLEANED MY DASHBOARD WITH THE WRONG PRODUCT. HOWEVER, THE ISSUE HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE SINCE THEN, AND I NOW KNOW THAT THE STICKINESS IS CAUSED BY MY DASHBOARD MELTING IN THE SUN. LARGE STICKY, SHINY AREAS COVER MY DASHBOARD AND CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD THAT AFFECTS MY VISION WHEN DRIVING. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS HAZARD FOR ME AND FOR THE DRIVERS AROUND ME. IT IS A DEFECT OF VEHICLE'S CONSTRUCTION AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
DASHBOARD IS MELTING CAUSING A DANGEROUS GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD RESTRICTING MY VISION. THE VISION RESTRICTION CAUSED BY THIS GLARE MAKES DRIVING HAZARDOUS IN THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED TRADING IN THE VEHICLE FOR THIS SOLE ISSUE. NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY REPLACE THESE DASHBOARDS OR AT LEAST PAY FOR 50 PERCENT OF THE COSTS. I HAVE ALSO CONSIDERED JOINING THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WHICH HAS BEEN FILED AGAINST NISSAN.
THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2008 ULTIMA HAS MELTED INTO A SHINY RUBBER CAUSING SERIOUS VISIBILITY ISSUES WHILE DRIVING DURING SUNNY BRIGHT DAYS. I RESORTED TO PUTTING A PLASTIC RECTANGLE TO COVER THE REFLECTION ON MY MORNING COMMUTE, BUT NOW THAT PLASTIC IS STUCK AND SEMI-PERMANENTLY ATTACHED TO THE DASHBOARD FROM THE STICKINESS. THE ATTACHED PICTURES WERE TAKEN ON MY DRIVEWAY. NOTICE THE REFLECTION OF THE ROCK WALL AND WHITE GARAGE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD. DURING MORNING OR AFTERNOON SUNNY CONDITIONS, THE GLARE BECOMES UNBEARABLE. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE VERY PREVALENT SPECIFICALLY WITH A 2008 MODEL YEAR ALTIMA. NOT 2007 AND NOT 2009 SO CLEARLY IT'S A DEFECT AND A HAZARDOUS ONE TOO VISUALLY. ALSO THERE ARE UNKNOWN CONSEQUENCES OF THE FOWEL TAR LIKE ORDER WITHIN THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR MOST PROMINENTLY PRESENT AFTE THE CAR SITS CLOSED FOR A WHILE.

LOOKS TO ME LIKE THE BEGINNING OF SEPARATION.THESE TIRES HAVE A 80000 MILE WARRANTY. TIRES NOW HAVE ABOUT 25000 TO25500MILES ON THEM THIS DATE. TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED AT EVERY 5000 MILES. IN DECEMBER OF 2012 MY CAR STARTED TO GIVE ME PROBLEMS WITH STARTING. (45000 MILES)I PUSH THE BRAKE AND PUSH TO START BUTTON, BUT ONLY THE LIGHTS COME ON. THEY FIX THE PROBLEM FOR $268 WHICH WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY, BECAUSE IN APRIL 2013 AND THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENING AGAIN.(48000 MILES) I HAD THE CAR TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACE THE BRAKE SWITCH FOR ME FOR FREE THIS TIME, AND SAID THAT IT MAYBE A BIGGER PROBLEM SUCH AS THE SUB HARNESS FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. BUT I WILL HAVE TO PAY $125 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS CHARGE AND I TOLD THEM TO CALL THE CORPORATE OFFICE HAVE THE ALTIMAS RECALLED AND SOME OTHER "KIND WORDS". I READ ONLINE FROM VARIOUS POSTS THAT OTHERS ALTIMAS 2007 AND 2008 ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM.
