TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK VIOLENTLY WITH HESITATION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE FAILURE AND THERE WERE NO REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35-45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS ERRATIC SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS. WHEN THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS MOVED FROM DRIVE INTO REVERSE, AN EXCESSIVE JERKING MOTION OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE CV AXLE DIFFERENTIAL FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
TRANSMISSION IN 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA JERKS ABRUPTLY WHEN GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. THIS STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 60K MILES. AT THAT TIME, IT WAS JUST ASSUMED TO BE A RANDOM EVENT. HOWEVER, AT APPROXIMATELY 75K MILES, THE JERKING BECAME MORE AND MORE CONSISTENT, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE JERKING HAPPENING IN A RANDOM NATURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY RECOMMENDED A "TRANSMISSION FLUSH" BE PERFORMED EVERY 18 - 24 MONTHS. I GOT THE FLUSH DONE AND IT SEEMED TO WORK FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS, THEN STARTED AGAIN. AT THAT POINT, I TOOK THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP THAT RECOMMENDED A "TRANSMISSION FLUSH" BECAUSE THE FLUID SEEMED A LITTLE DARK. I THEN INFORMED THEM THAT THE FLUSH HAD BEEN PERFORMED 6 MONTHS PRIOR AT ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THE RESPONSE WAS, "YOU SHOULD HAVE IT REPLACED SOONER RATHER THAN LATER..." AN ENGINE DIAGS CHECK TURNED UP, YOU GUESSED IT, NO PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING THEME OF MANY OWNERS WHO EXPLAIN VERY SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THEIR MAXIMAS. *TR

I DRIVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE. THE PROBLEM IS THE TRANSMISSION. IT SHIFTS VERY HARD FROM GEARS 1-3 UPSHIFTING AND DOWNSHIFTING. I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUGUST AND NOW THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME I NEED A NEW TRANNY WHICH I CANNOT AFFORD RIGHT NOW. IT IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD ON THE ROAD AND WHEN I TALKED TO NISSAN THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT NEEDS TO BE RECOGNIZED BY NISSAN AND REPLACED AND FIXED AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TR

I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE WITH 103,000 MILES. I AM HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND AFTER READING SEVERAL FORUMS ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS AS THOUGH I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN IS NOT WILLING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION - I CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW TRANSMISSION, THE CAR IS STILL PRACTICALLY NEW! I BOUGHT A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND THE CAR HAS SOME DEFECTS THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR. ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR I NOTICED A SHAKING IN THE STEERING WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES OR WHEN I DRIVE FASTER THAN 50MPH. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM AND THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS WERE SLIGHTLY WARPED BUT THAT THIS WASN'T NECESSARILY A SAFETY ISSUE. RECENTLY AT 74,000 MILES THE CARS TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO FAIL,SLIPPING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR AND FROM SECOND TO FIRST GEAR. IT JERKS AGGRESSIVELY WHEN IT SHIFTS AND SMELLS LIKE BURNED RUBBER. I TOOK IT TO BE SERVICED FOR THIS AND FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS HEAVILY CONTAMINATED AND THERE WAS METALLIC RESIDUE IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN. THE AUTO SPECIALIST DETERMINED THAT THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED AND THAT EVENTUALLY THE CAR WILL STOP WORKING UNLESS I GET A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR SAID THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME AND THAT IT ISN'T THERE PROBLEM THAT THE CAR I BOUGHT FROM THEM SIX MONTHS AGO DOESN'T WORK. IT IS UNFAIR THAT I AM PAYING TWICE THE AMOUNT OF MONEY OF THE CAR'S WORTH. THE RETAIL VALUE OF THE VEHICLE IS $10,000 IN GOOD CONDITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE HESITATED. THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, WHENEVER THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE WOULD REV EXCESSIVELY HIGH AND FAIL TO CHANGE GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,500.
04 NISSAN MAXIMA PURCHASED IN AUG 03 WITH A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. FIRST VISIT TO THE DEALER WAS IN MARCH 04 -- REPLACED FRONT STRUT. LASTED ABOUT 1 WEEK BEFORE THE NOISE WAS BACK. SINCE THEN HAS HAD AT LEAST 6-8 STRUTS REPLACED. LAST REPAIR WAS LAST FRIDAY -- WENT 10 MILES BEFORE THE NOISE WAS BACK. THE LONGEST A STRUT HAS LASTED WAS 6 MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR FOUR YEARS. WILL NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A PROBLEM AND EVER FIX IT? *TR
MY 04 MAXIMA CURRENTLY HAS JUST OVER 50,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOTICED SOME HARD SHIFTS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, BUT THEY HAD BEEN VERY INTERMITTENT. THE OTHER DAY HOWEVER I NOTICED THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT WAS ON AND WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP I REALIZED THAT I BARELY HAD ANY POWER! AFTER ENGINE SHUT OFF THE ACCELERATION WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT REMAINED ON. THE CODE WAS PULLED AND RESET. P 0797 PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID, STUCK ON. REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY 4000 DOLLARS. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. THE STRUTS HAVE ALSO GONE BAD. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. THE FRONT RIGHT ROTOR IS WARPED AND CAUSES STEERING WHEEL SHIM WHEN DOWNHILL BRAKING. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. MY CAR HAD BEGUN TO IDLE VERY LOW TWICE AND ACTUALLY DIED ONCE. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. A WELD ON THE HEAT SHIELD OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS COME LOOSE AND CAUSES A NOTICEABLE VIBRATION WHEN ACCELERATING WHEN COLD. THIS SUBSIDES ONCE IT'S HEATED UP PROBABLY DUE TO METAL EXPANSION. PROBLEM OUTSTANDING. I HAVE ALSO REPLACED THE TIRES DUE TOO BAD ALIGNMENT CAMBER ON SOME AND ALSO CASTOR I BELIEVE IT WAS WEARING THE TIRES UNEVENLY. *TR

I HAVE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMUM SE, I BOUGHT THE CAR MAY 2008 AND STILL DRIVING. I HAVE ISSUE WITH TRANSMISSION, IT JERKS WHEN GEAR IS CHANGING FROM 2 TO 3 AND INVERSE TOO. HI, I AM SO MAD TO THE TOP OF MY HEAD THAT NISSAN IS TAKING OUR MONEY AND GIVING LOW PERFORMING VEHICLE LIKE THE MAXIMA SE 2004. I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR (2004 MAXIMA 04) BECAUSE OF MY PRIOR NISSAN THAT WORKED EXCELLENT FOR OVER 10 YEARS. BUT MY NEW MAXIMA AT 54,000 HAS BEEN JERKING ON ME EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND HAD A REBUILT TRANSMISSION PUT ON IT AND FRANKLY THE CAR IS STILL SHIFTING AND DOWNSHIFTING HARD. NISSAN HAS FAILED TO RECALL THIS PRODUCT AND STAND BEHIND THEIR WORD AS THE PROVIDER OF RELIABLE CARS. JUST THE OTHER DAY WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY I ALMOST REAR ENDED SOMEBODY BECAUSE THE GEARS WILL NOW DOWNSHIFT PROPERLY AND IT SEEMED THAT THE CAR JUST WANTED TO KEEP GOING. I ALSO SEEM TO BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CAR HAS 62,000 MILES ON AND THE PROBLEM IS JUST STARTING TO SURFACE. I GET A JERKING MOTION WHEN THE CAR SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND OR IT DOWNSHIFTS FROM 2ND TO 1ST. IT JERKS ESPECIALLY HARD WHEN MAKING A TURN AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AND PICKS UP SPEED AGAIN. I PURCHASED A 2004 MAXIMA MARCH OF 2007, AND NOW AS OF RECENTLY MY CAR IS SUFFERING FROM TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I CHECKED OTHER WEBSITES TO SEE IF OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS OF MAXIMAS WERE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND I HAVE READ SO MANY REVIEWS ON THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS CAR FAILING. I NEVER WOULD OF BOUGHT THIS CAR IF I WOULD OF KNOWN THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD FAIL SO EASILY. IM VERY UPSET AND DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE TO GET THIS TRANSMISSION REBUILT AND PUT BACK INTO MY CAR WOULD COST 2300 DOLLARS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO THIRD GEAR, THE RPM'S INCREASE AND NEVER FULLY SHIFTS INTO THIRD GEAR. WHEN SHIFTING FROM DRIVE INTO PARK, THE VEHICLE MAKES A THUD SOUND. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,350 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE, TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH JERKING AND SLIPPING AT THE 2ND AND 3RD GEAR SHIFTING. I TRIED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM AT A TRANSMISSION SHOP TWICE SPEND MORE THAN $2,000. I FOUND OUT THAT TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH 2004 MAXIMA WAS WELL KNOWN AMONG THE MECHANICS. ONE TIME THE CAR BRIEFLY STOPPED ON A FREEWAY IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC WITH REPEATED STOP-AND-GO SITUATION. AT THAT TIME, I WAS RIDING WITH MY SON. HE WAS SHOCKED AT THE CAR DIED DOWN ON A FREEWAY. I HAPPENED TO HAVE IT STARTED AGAIN. HOWEVER, I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE, BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF SUCH INCIDENT HAPPENING AGAIN. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT BEING RECALLED, EVEN THOUGHT THE PROBLEM IS WELL-KNOWN AMONG THE PART SHOPS AND THE MECHANICS. SOMETIMES, THE ENGINE REVVS UP WITHOUT BEING ENGAGED AND SOMETIMES THE CARD MOVES VERY SLOWLY WITH DEAD POOR. I CONTACTED MY MECHANICS AND DISCUSSED ABOUT THE SITUATION. HE TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN AND 2004 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION WAS ONLY OF THAT YEAR MODEL AND NISSAN CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION MODEL TO DIFFERENT ONE IN 2005. NISSAN KNEW THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THAT WAS THE REASON THEY ARE USING DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION MODEL. *TR

THE DEALER, WHO SOLD ME THE CAR TOO, INITIALLY SAID THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT STATING IT ONLY NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE -WHICH I DID. TWO MONTHS LATER, AFTER TELLING THE DEALERSHIP THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS JERKING AND BUCKING, THEY SAID I NEEDED TO CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS -WHICH I DID. THEY SAID IT WOULD FIX THE JERKING PROBLEM BUT IT DIDN'T. NOW THEY STATE THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.
