MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA 3.5SE SHIFTS FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR VERY HARD, ALSO FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE WHEN I BACK UP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A MONTH OR SO AND NOW MY MECHANIC IS SAYING THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, I SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE WITH THE 2004 MAXIMA. THIS CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT NOW HAS 100,600 MILES. I HAVE JUST HAD THE RACK & PINION REPLACED LAST WEEK AS WELL AS THAT WAS BAD ($1100). *TR

MY 2004 MAXIMA HAS HAD A FRONT END NOISE ON A WIDE VARIETY OF ROAD SURFACES. MY LOCAL MECHANIC, WHOM I HAVE BEEN DOING BUSINESS WITH FOR OVER 20 YEARS SAYS THE FRONT STRUTS ARE SHOT AND NEED REPLACEMENT. THE CAR HAS 34,650 GENTLE MILES ON IT! *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. JERKS BAD FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, AND DOWNSHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 1ST. GETTING WORST AS I DRIVE. TRANSMISSION WAS FLUSHED, BUT DID NOT HELP. I SEE ALOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. WHY HAVEN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL? *TR
2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE - BOUGHT CAR IN JULY 2003 BRAND NEW. CAR NOW HAS 102000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR. CAR SLAMS INTO ALL GEARS PRIOR TO 5TH. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED THE $600+ MAINTENANCE SERVICE CALL, INCLUDING TRANSMISSION FLUSH. CAR OPERATED CORRECTLY FOR ONE DAY. RETURNED CAR TO AND DEALERSHIP WHO COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND NOW WANTS $4000+ FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. DEALERSHIP EVEN CONTACTED MANUFACTURER TO TRY AND FIND A RESOLUTION. WE ARE ONLY GIVEN THE OPTION OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION. INFURIATING TO SEE THAT THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM AND YET CONSUMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO PAY FOR THEIR SHODDY WORK. UNACCEPTABLE AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED. THIS TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE RECALLED ASAP. THIS IS NOT COINCIDENCE WITH THIS MODEL, IT'S A MANUFACTURING FLAW THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. VEHICLES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE TO HAVE TO REPLACE TRANSMISSIONS FOR $4000 AT 102000 MILES. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS FLEECING OR MAXIMA OWNERS. I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AS MANY OTHER 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA OWNERS. THE ISSUE HAS TO DO WITH THE TRANSMISSION FAILING AND THE DEALER CHARGING OVER $5,000.00 TO REPLACE IT. NISSAN KNOWS THESE TRANSMISSIONS ARE DEFECTIVE AND THEY ARE NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY ARE NOT CONSIDERING THE HUGE RISK FACTOR FOR PEOPLE DRIVING THESE CARS OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE TRANSMISSIONS. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT DOWNSHIFT OR UPSHIFT PROPERLY IN MANY INSTANCES LIKE STOPPING IN A TRAFFIC LIGHT, GOING UPHILL OR EVEN JUST CRUISING. AS I WA DRIVING ON I-495, I HEARD A NOISE FROM THE RIGHT REAR. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS, THE TIRE WENT FLAT AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. ON REMOVING THE TIRE, I FOUND THAT THE INNER SIDEWALL HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FRO THE TREAD AND CRACK WAS ALMOST PERFECTLY CIRCULAR AND ABOUT MIDWAY UP THE SIDEWALL. THIS WAS DEFINITELY NOT CAUSED BY ANY FOREIGN OBJECT INTRUSION AS THESE TIRES ARE ALMOST NEW (REPLACED UNDER RECALL LAST YEAR). *TR
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WHICH WAS PURCHASED MARCH 2006. HAVE REPLACED THE STRUTS AND LATER FOUND THEM TO HAVE SOME SORT OF DEFECT. THE RADIO/CD PLAYER WENT OUT ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE HORN WENT OUT, FOG LIGHTS HAD A SHORT, HAD NUMEROUS BRAKE PROBLEMS. A/C HAD TO BE RE-CHARGED 1 YEAR AFTER PURCHASE..THIS LIST GOES ON. OCTOBER 16, 2008, I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED DUE BOTH TRANSMISSION COOLER LINESBURSING ON THE FWY. THE SHOP REPAIRED BOTH LINES TOTALING $428.54. TODAY IS NOVEMBER 24, 2008 AND MY VEHICLE NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE SHOP DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND JERKING INTO GEAR. I HAVE GONE ON LINE AND READ ALL THE COMPLAINTS FOR THE 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA'S AND THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THE OTHER OWNERS HAVE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! 4 GOODYEAR ASSURANCE COMFORTREAD TIRES ARE WORN OUT AT 31,000 MILES. THESE ARE ADVERTISED AND WARRANTY FOR 80,000 MILES. THE TIRES WERE BALANCED AND ROTATED PERIODICALLY AT SEARS WHERE THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED. CAR'S ALIGNMENT WAS PERIODICALLY CHECKED. CAR WAS USED PRIMARILY FOR NON-CITY DRIVING. SEARS INDICATES THAT THE TIRES ARE WORN OUT AND IT IS NOT CAUSED BY VEHICLE PROBLEMS AS THEY ARE UNIFORMLY WORN ON ALL 4 TIRES. *TR
NO EVENT LEADING TO FAILURE. 1. TRANSMISSION JERKING INTO 1ST GEAR WHEN STARTING TO DRIVE. HAPPENS 70% OF TIME, ESPECIALLY WHEN GOING FROM REVERSE TO FIRST. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. 2. RIGHT FRONT SIDE SHAKING AND RATTLING, NEED NEW STRUTS AT 60,000 MILES. REPAIR TAKING PLACE NEXT WEEK. 3. CONTINUAL EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR, 60K TIRES GET 30-35K MILES. CAR WILL NOT STAY IN ALIGNMENT. 4. HUGE BANG FROM BACK OF CAR THEN SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE RADIO - BOSE RADIO AND AMP SYSTEM IS BLOWN. DIGITAL RADIO SYSTEM APPEARS TO TURN ON BUT NO SOUND. NOT REPAIRED YET, NISSAN DEALER SAYS I'D NEED TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT AND DIAGNOSTICS. 5. REPLACED HALF AXLES AND U-JOINT AT 58K MILES. *TR
I OWN A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH UNDER 90,000 MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS MODEL STARTED SLIPPING. THERE IS A SEVERE JERK IN THE TRANNY WHEN THE GEARS ARE SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND AND FROM 2ND TO 1ST. MY CAR HAS EVEN COMPLETELY STALLED. NOT TO MENTION THE MANY TIMES I HAVE BEEN GOING UPHILL AND EVEN PEDAL TO THE FLOOR THE CAR ISN'T MOVING. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS TOLD BY A DEALER THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED RESULTING IN A BILL OVER $3K. THIS IS RIDICULOUS WHEN THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE THAT THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PART. HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SITUATION. I'VE RESEARCHED THE MANY COMPLAINTS SUBMITTED TO THIS PARTICULAR SITE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FIRST BEFORE NISSAN TAKES ACTION. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND ADDRESSED. *TR

THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 13,400.
I NOTICED MY 2004 MAXIMA TRANSMISSION SLIPPING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR AND VIOLENTLY JERKING I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME MY MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN I CHANGED THEM($600) AND THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY TOLD ME I WAS DOWN A QUART OF TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT MY TRANSMISSION IS NOT LEAKING ANYWHERE SO I MADE THEM SUPPOSEDLY FILL IT UP I FINALLY TOOK MY CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST AND FOUND THAT I HAVE A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 04-06 NISSAN MAXIMAS, THE SPECIALIST TOLD ME HE GETS THEM ALL THE TIME, IM SURE IF I KEPT GOING BACK TO THE DEALER THEY WOULD TELL ME I NEED A NEW $4500 TRANSMISSION KNOWING THAT THERE VALVE BODIES ARE DEFECTIVE THIS HAS TO STOP NISSAN IS TAKING PEOPLE ON A RUN AROUND WITH THIS ISSUE I THINK THE PART SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE IT MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE (EXAMPLE) WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS TO TAKE OFF THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT STAYS IN FIRST GEAR TO A CERTAIN POINT THEN SLAMS INTO SECOND GEAR WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION CAUSING THE CAR TO LAUNCH FORWARD THIS ALMOST CAUSED PROPERTY DAMAGE IN MY CASE, TO MAKE IT WORSE THE DEALERS ARE TELLING PEOPLE OTHER THINGS ARE WRONG WITH THERE CAR INSTEAD OF DEALING WITH THE ISSUE AND RECALLING THE PROBLEM. *TR

I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REVERSE AND THIRD GEARS, AND I NEEDED A REBUILD. AFTER $2000.00 AND SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP I,M STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. I PURCHASED A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN 2006.THE FIRST YEAR MY TIRES WERE ON RECALL.THAT SAME YEAR MY CAR HAD A RATTLING NOISE WHEN YOU START THE CAR. ONE DAY DRIVING ON THE CITY STREET WITH MY KIDS THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVING PAST 20 MPH. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS A CAM CRANK SENSOR. THAT COST ME 441.46 CENTS. THE CAR WAS NOW DRIVING ON 4TH AND 5TH GEAR.THAT WAS ON 10/10/O8.THIS PAST YEAR ON 1/22/09 THE DEALER CALLED ME TO SAY THAT NISSAN RECALLED THE REAR SUSPENSION MEMBRANE. I TOWED THE VEHICLE TO GET FIXED I WAS THEN TOLD MY TRANSMISSION WAS GONE. NISSAN DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THIS BILL. I PAID 3,000 TO REPLACE THE TRASMISSION. MY CAR IS STILL RATTLING. *TR

1. MY PROBLEMS OCCUR WITH MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA WHEN I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT FROM A TAKE OFF AFTER A TOLL THAT THE CAR WOULD JERK INTO SECOND GEAR. IT HAS SINCE PROGRESSED INTO A JERKING AND SLAMMING INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEAR ON ACCELERATION AND 3RD TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 1ST IN DECELERATION. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY THAT I USE MY CAR. I HAVE HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSHED AND SEVERAL ENGINE SENSORS REPLACED BY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER GONE AWAY AND JUST GETS WORSE WITH TIME. *TR

THE ABS ACTUATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 62,000 MILES. TWO OF THE GOODYEAR TIRES CRACKED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. I PURCHASED MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN THE SUMMER OF JUNE 2007. THE CAR WAS USED, BUT IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. RECENTLY I NOTICED MY CAR BEGAN JERKING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR ON MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND THE PROBLEM BEGAN GETTING WORSE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT YESTERDAY. THEY TOLD ME MY FRONT ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN AND THAT MY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE PARTS, AND THAT IT WOULD BE AROUND $740.00 TO GET IT FIXED PLUS THE $116.00 DIAGNOSTICS FEE. I BEGAN READING ONLINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER MAXIMA OWNER'S AND IT SEEMS MY PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON. IF THIS IS SOMETHING THAT OCCURS SO OFTEN ON THE 2004 MAXIMA WHY DOESN'T NISSAN RECALL ALL OF THE NISSAN MAXIMAS AND GET THE PROBLEM FIXED. 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA SE - WE'VE BEEN ADVISED BY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT WE NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $4000 AFTER WE TOOK IT IN FOR SHIFTING SLOW BETWEEN PARK AND DRIVE AND DRIVE AND 1ST AND TREMBLING WHILE IN IDLE & SOME SLIPPING. ALSO, WE WERE CHARGED $145 FOR NISSAN TO CHECK THE FLUID AND THEY TOLD US THAT THERE WAS BURNING. I CALLED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE W/04 MAXIMA OWNERS BECAUSE OF A "DESIGN FLAW" IN THE TRANNY. THIS IS A SHAME BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL MAXIMA DRIVER SINCE I WAS 16. NISSAN NEEDS TO ADMIT THEY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THESE TRANSMISSION AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
CAR STARTED MAKING A WHINING SOUND SIMILAR TO A TURBO WHINE UNDER ACCELERATION, THIS GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WITH TIME AND MILEAGE. TURNED OUT TO BE UPPER CAM CHAIN TENSIONERS RESULTING IN THE ENGINE HAVING TO BE REMOVED FROM THE CAR TO REPAIR. REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE REDESIGNED AND DEALER SAID MOST VQ35 AND VQ40 ENGINES ARE EFFECTED. PROBLEM IS THE SYMPTOM'S DON'T SHOW UP UNTIL 50-75K MILES AND WILL NOT BE COVERED BY NISSAN. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000.

THE DEALERSHIP KEPT TELLING ME THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND HAD ME PAY FOR A TRANSMISSION FLUSH SEVERAL TIMES. AFTER TAKING THE CAR BACK ENOUGH TIMES, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION, WHICH BY THAT TIME MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED (VERY SUSPECT). SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW IN 2003, I HAVE FOLLOWED THE NISSAN GUIDLINES REGARDING TRANSMISSION CARE SERVICES (SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS). I PAID FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND I AM STILL HAVING SEVERE JERKS IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND NISSAN CORP. SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
