TRANSMISSION STARTED SHIFTING HARD AND OCCASIONALLY REVVING BEFORE GOING INTO GEAR WHEN STARTING OUT OR BACKING UP. WE HAD THE FLUID CHANGED AND ADDED LUCAS TRANSMISSION FIX. THIS SEEMED TO FIX THE ISSUE FOR 3 MONTHS OR SO THEN IT STARTED AGAIN. GOING TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CHECKED AT A LOCAL SPECIALIST SHOP. WITH SO MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE WHY HAS NISSAN NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THEY PRIDE THEMSELVES IN SELLING RELIABLE AND QUALITY PRODUCTS THIS IS NOT SO. *TR
HARD SHIFT WHEN TRANSMISSION IS HOT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR,DOING APPROXIMATELY 35MPH,WHEN THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE CAR BUCKED. I HAD MY TRANSMISSION FLUID CHECKED,AND ADDED WHAT NEEDED TO BE ADDED,FIGURING THAT'S WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. IT WASN'T. THE CAR HAS CONTINUED TO DO THIS FOR THE LAST 3 MONTHS,AND TODAY THE TRANSMISSION WENT ON THE CAR. I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2013 WITH 88,000 MILES ON IT AND NO WARRANTY. IT IS NOW 2015,AND THE CAR HAS JUST ABOVE 100,000 MILES. *TR
PULLING AWAY FROM A STOPLIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION JERKED VIOLENTLY FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE" ONLY GOING TO 20 MILES PER HOUR ON A VERY BUSY STREET WITH NO TURN OFF. CAR WAS TOWED, AND NEW TRANSMISSION NEEDED. NISSAN WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SOME SERVICE AND WAS TOLD MY TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT IS GOING TO COST OVER $2000.00 FOR THE WORK. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. NISSAN HAS ISSUED AS TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM. IT APPEARS A PLASTIC PART WAS USED ON THE TIMING CHAIN AND IT WEARS PREMATURELY. I SPOKE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND LEARNED THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD BE GOOD FOR AT LEAST 100000 MILES. I WAS TOLD BY NISSAN THAT IF THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED, IT COULD RESULT IN MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, IF THE TIMING CHAIN FAILS, THE VEHICLE COULD BE REAR-ENDED SINCE THE FAILURE MAKES THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. *TR
IN NEIGHBOR DRIVING 30, CAR JUMPS AND MOTOR IDLES. HAS JUMPED INTO REVERSE WHEN TRYING TO SHIFT TO DRIVE. WHILE PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE TRYING PARK, THE CAR JUMPS INSTEAD OF DRIVING. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT WHILE ACCELERATING, CAR JUMPS THREE TIMES BEFORE TAKING OFF TO ACTUALLY DRIVE. CAR REFUSED TO GO INTO REVERSE TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. *TR
I HAD MY VALVE BODY REPLACED DUE TO HARD SHIFTING AND A DELAY IN TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. VEHICLE IS START TO EXHIBIT SAME SYMPTOMS AND I WAS INFORMED THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $2,500 VEHICLE HAD 148,000 MILES ON IT. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS INFERIOR QUALITY AND WORKMANSHIP. *TR
THE CAR STARTED TO JERK AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP. CAR WILL NOT MOVE NOW. IT SLAMS INTO GEAR. *TR
DRIVERS AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT FLOOR PANS DISINTEGRATED DUE TO RUST CORROSION. THESE PANS TIE THE CENTER TUBE TO THE SIDE FRAMES SO ANY STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY THERE IS LOST. THERE IS NO LONGER SUPPORT FOR THE PASSENGER AND DRIVERS FEET, ONLY THE CARPET IS KEEPING THEM FROM FALLING THROUGH TO THE ROAD. *TR
MY CAR WILL START OFF RIDING GREAT BUT THEN THE JERKING STARTS AND THE ACCELERATION STALLS. I AM SO AFRAID THAT I MAY GET IN AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THE CONSTANT JERKING. SOMETIMES MY ENGINE REVS UP AND MY CAR JERKS AS IF THE WHOLE CAR WILL JUST FALL APART. I PRAY EVERYTIME I GET BEHIND THE WHEEL. I DON'T HAVE $3,000 TO GET IT REPAIRED AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT WHEN THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THIS ISSUE. I AM HOPING THAT A RECALL IS DONE SO THAT I WON'T HAVE TO PAY. I BELIEVE ITS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I CAN GET IN AN ACCIDENT OR INJURE SOMEONE. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE, I HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 80MPH. THERE WAS A STALLING/JERKING MOTION THAT TOOK PLACE. AFTER LOOKING OVER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I NOTICE IT WAS STILL ON CRUISE CONTROL BUT THE MPH HAD DROPPED A FEW MILES. ONCE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DISENGAGED, I NOTICED THE DIFFERENCE IN ACCELERATION. IT FELT LIKE MY CAR WAS STUCK IN THIRD OR FORTH GEAR. I HAD TO HOLD PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND WAIT AS IT PICKED UP SPEED. *TR
THE FLOOR BOARDS IN THIS 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA ARE BADLY ROTTED THROUGH. IT PROBABLY HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR QUITE SOME TIME. I SPOKE WITH THE NISSAN DEALER TODAY. THEY WANT $1200 TO PATCH THE FLOOR BOARDS. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN. I BELIEVE THIS AND ALL CARS OF THIS MODEL AND YEAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY NISSAN. THERE ARE NUMEROUS POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON THIS AND OTHER NISSAN MODEL CARS OF THE SAME VINTAGE. NISSAN REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS DEFECT AND TAKE ANY ACTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSE THAT THE MODULE IN THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE SEAT CUSHION AND SENSOR BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 144,000.

TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT AT 57000 MILES BUT CAR WAS PURCHASED 7-18-06, SO IT IS PAST THE 60 MONTHS. NISSAN TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY WHATSOEVER, DESPITE NUMEROUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS OF NISSAN OWNERS. EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF FLOORBOARDS. ONLY CARPET IS BETWEEN ROAD AND GROUND ON BOTH DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. CAR NEVER IN ACCIDENT AND EXTERIOR/BODY SHOWS NO SIGNS OF CORROSION. BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND COULD BE DANGEROUS IF CARPET LETS LOOSE AND FEET CAN HIT GROUND. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT COINS FELL INTO THE CRACK AND CAUSED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AC AMPLIFIER AND THE UNIFIED METER CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING BELT AND THE TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,800.
MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA BEGAN HARD SHIFTING WHILE DRIVING, REVERSING, AND SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE IT SERVICED OVER THE SUMMER AND THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. OF COURSE THAT DID NOT FIX ANYTHING. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE TO THE POINT WHERE IT CAN TAKE UP TO 5 SECONDS FOR THE CAR TO SHIFT INTO GEAR WHEN I AM PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE. I CONTACTED THE NISSAN CORPORATION AND THEY ADVISED ME TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. WELL OF COURSE NOW THE DEALERSHIP SAYS WE NEED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED...TO THE TUNE OF $3,000. WHEN I CONTACTED THE NISSAN CORPORATION THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME AND THAT MY CAR DIDN'T FALL WITHIN THE PARAMETERS OF THE CVT TRANSMISSION EXTENDED WARRANTY. SO NOT ONLY ARE WE OUT $150 FOR A DIAGNOSIS THAT WE ALREADY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, BUT NOW WE HAVE TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED OR IT WON'T BE SAFE TO DRIVE. WE HAVE OWNED TWO NISSANS AND THE PREVIOUS ONE WAS A 1996 MAXIMA THAT NEVER GAVE US ANY PROBLEMS. I WISH I HAD THAT CAR BACK AND NOT THIS "UPGRADED" MODEL. I USE TO THINK THAT NISSAN WAS A COMPANY THAT STOOD BY ITS CUSTOMERS AND STRIVED FOR SATISFACTION, BUT I NOW KNOW THAT IS NOT THE CASE. WILL NHTSA EVER LOOK INTO THESE COMPLAINTS AND FORCE NISSAN'S HAND AS FAR AS THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE GOES? THERE NEEDS TO BE A SAFETY RECALL, NOT JUST A BULLETIN. *TR
THIS CAR HAS HAD HARDSHIFTS, BETWEEN 2-3 GEARS AND HORRIBLE DOWNSHIFTS. NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THESE ISSUES. FLAIR SHIFTS WHEN COASTING. SLIPPING IN AND OUT OF GEARS. PLEASE HELP! THE CAR SHIFTS ERRATICALLY AND THIS IS DUE TO A PRODUCTION ISSUE WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. MY INITIAL INCIDENT OCCURRED SOMETIME IN DECEMBER, AFTER PUTTING MY VEHICLE IN TO GEAR (D) FROM PARK POSITION IT HESITATED AND THEN IT FELT AS IF MY WHOLE CAR JUMPED. I STEPPED ON THE GAS TO SLOWLY ACCELERATE AND THE CARS ENGINE REVVED UP BUT THE CAR DID NOT MOVE. IT KIND OF SCARED ME. IT CONTINUED TO DO SO ON MY DRIVE HOME. IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS INSTALLED IN NISSAN MAXIMAS ARE FAULTY AND NISSAN REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 81,000. SOON AFTER, THE TRANSMISSION IN THE CAR STARTED GIVING ME HICKUPS NOW AND THEN AND NOW, IT HARD SHIFT FROM THIRD TO FOURTH AND SOMETIMES 1 TO 2ND. THE CAR HAS NOW 89,000 AND I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS FOR. A CAR WITH LESS THAN 100K MILES. *TR
HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE ISSUES DIAGNOSED AND THEY WOULD STATE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. FIRST STARTED WITH HAVING LOW AND DIRTY OIL AND MAKING A WEIRD NOISE EVEN AFTER IT HAS BEEN SERVICED. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DIFFERENT PLACE THAT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAID WE SHOULD GO. THEIR OIL SOLUTION OF ROYAL PURPLE SYNTHETIC OIL DID NOT WORK. TALKED TO THE PLACE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT AND BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED THEY WERE UNWILLING TO HELP. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS ALMOST 108000 MILES ON IT AND HAVE ONLY OWNED IT A YEAR. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE HARD SHIFTING WHEN DRIVING AND THE SLAMMING OF THE HEAD AGAINST THE HEAD REST. IT WILL SLAM INTO SECOND, THIRD AND EVEN FOURTH GEAR ONCE IT GETS WARMED UP AND TAKE SEVERAL SECONDS FOR THE VEHICLE TO ENGAGE AND ADJUST THE SPEED. I EXPERIENCE JERKING COMING FROM THE REAR WHILE DRIVING AND RECENTLY WHILE GOING FROM SPEED LIMITS OF 45 TO 30 I FELT A LOSE OF POWER LIKE IT DID NOT WANT TO GO. WHILE PARKED IT ALSO SLAMS INTO REVERSE AND THE FIRST. I HAVE A YOUNG SON AND THIS VEHICLE IS DEFIANTLY NOT SAFE FOR HIM TO DRIVE IN. I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE SOLENOIDS, TIMING CHAINS, AND TO PUT A KIT IN IT FOR THE SHIFTING ISSUES. I ALSO NEED TO GET AN ALIGNMENT DONE TO ADDRESS THE SHAKING WHEN GOING OVER 55MPH. AT THIS POINT THE MOTOR MOUNTS PROBABLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE AND ALL WARRANTIES ARE EXPIRED. THE AIR BAGS ARE ALSO MALFUNCTIONING AND THE LIGHTS BLINK ON AND OFF THIS WILL COST UP TO A $1000 TO HAVE FIXED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES OFF AND ON BUT NO CODES SHOW UP. THE RPM GAUGE GETS STUCK AT 3 AND YOU HAVE TO GO OVER 40MPH TO GET THAT GAUGE TO WORK. REALLY DON'T WANT TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN AND TRANSMISSION. *TR

LOTS OF FORUMS WITH PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES. TRANSMISSION REPAIR FACILITY SAID THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN FROM NISSAN FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
