BRAKE "ACTUATOR" STARTED HUMMING OR RUNNING AS SOON AS CAR ('06 NISSAN MAXIMA SE) WAS TURNED ON AWAY FROM HOME. CONTINUED TO KICK IN ABS AT EVERY BRAKE APPLICATION CREATING UNSAFE (OR AT LEAST NOT NORMAL) BRAKING SITUATIONS AND CONTINUED TO RUN WHEN CAR WAS SHUT OFF. ABS LIGHT, TCS LIGHT, AND SLIP LIGHT ALL ACTIVATED CONTINUALLY. CODES C1110 & C1105 & C1106 WERE PRESENT AFTER SCANNING AT LOCAL GARAGE. BATTERY DRAINED AFTER CAR SHUT OFF DUE TO ACTUATOR CONTINUING TO RUN WITH CAR SHUT OFF. PER RESEARCH AND OTHER TSB OR NISSAN-ISSUED TECHNICAL BULLETINS, THE REAR HUB ABS SENSOR FREQUENTLY MALFUNCTIONS DUE TO A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR. IF DRIVEN WHILE MALFUNCTIONING (AS IN THIS CASE) THE CONTROLLER/ACTUATOR MAY MALFUNCTION. TURNING OFF "ABS" WHILE DRIVING SEEMS TO KEEP THE ACTUATOR FROM RUNNING, BUT ALSO MAKES DRIVING LESS SAFE, ESPECIALLY IN INCLEMENT WEATHER DUE TO TURNING OFF TCS/ABS. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THIS OUT-OF-POCKET (DESPITE BEING AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE). SENSORS AND ACTUATOR WERE REPLACED. VEHICLE DRIVEN AGAIN. LESS THAN 8 MONTHS LATER, SAME ISSUES RETURN. NISSAN DEALERSHIP REPLACED REAR SENSOR PER CODES, NEW CODE FOR ACTUATOR SHOWS AGAIN (AFTER SENSORS PLACED IN) AND THEY REQUIRE ME TO PAY OUT OF POCKET AGAIN FOR NEW ACTUATOR. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN FLAW IN THE CAR (PER MANY OTHER REPORTS) AND SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY FOR REPAIR. *TR
WHILE CASUALLY DRIVING, HANDS ON STEERING WHEEL, FOOT ON ACCELERATOR, ASPHALT ROAD SLIGHTLY DAMP BUT NOT WET, ON A TWO WAY STREET WITH NO REASON TO EXPECT A SUDDEN CRISIS, THE ABA BRAKES ON MY 2006 MAXIMA SUDDENLY LOCKED THROWING THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE INTO A SLIDE FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHICH AT THIS TIME THERE HAPPENED TO BE NONE. WHEN I FELT THE SUDDEN ACTION, WHICH WAS LIKE I HAD RUN INTO AN INVISIBLE WALL, I THEN HIT THE BRAKES ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO FLOAT WITH NO CONTROL OF THE DIRECTION HEADED. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF BRAKING. THIS SENT THE VEHICLE BACK ACROSS TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO A CONCRETE CURB AND OVER INTO A GRASSY AREA BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. ONLY EXTERIOR MINOR DAMAGE FROM HITTING A SMALL SIGN POST. HAD IT IMMEDIATELY TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ROAD TESTED IT BUT FOUND NO REASON FOR THE INCIDENT. THEY SAID THERE WERE NO COMPUTER CODES FOR WHAT HAPPENED. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND CALLED NISSAN TO EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED. THEY HAD NO CLUE FOR WHY. I AM STILL AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC FOR FEAR OF A REPEAT. WITH SUCH LOW MILES AND IN THE GARAGE CARE OVER THE YEARS IT IS NOT TIME TO TRADE IT IN. *TR
WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE DOWN THE INTERSTATE. ENGINE REVVED AND CAR LURCHED. SHE EXITED INTERSTATE AND WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. REPLACED TRANSMISSION UNDER WARRANTY. 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED COMING OFF A MOUNTAIN IN EAST TENNESSEE. TRANSMISSION FAILED AND HAD TO RIDE BRAKES TO FLAT LAND, OVER 3 MILES. 2ND INCIDENT OCCURRED
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL THE VEHICLE MAKE A WHINING, THEN A GRINDING NOISE, ALONG WITH DIFFICULTY STEERING. HAD IT CHECKED (THINKING THE POWER STEERING PUMP) WAS TOLD IT WAS THE PUMP, THE HIGH PRESSURE HOSE, AND THE RACK AND PINION AND THAT THIS IS A TYPICAL REPAIR ON VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION, AND THE HOSE, AND STILL HAVING ISSUES. I HAVE AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL CARS JAPANESE, AMERICAN, AND GERMAN SOME WITH TWICE THE MILEAGE AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OF THIS NATURE. CHECKED THE NISSAN FORUMS AND THIS IS COMMON WITH VEHICLES OF THIS VINTAGE, MURANO, AND ALTIMA WITH A 3.5 LITER V6. REGARDLESS OF ITS COMMONALITY, ITS STILL OF SAFETY CONCERN AND DESERVES ATTENTION. *TR
WHILE IN 3RD GEAR GOING INTO 4TH, IT WOULD HESITATE FOR A GOOD 2 SECONDS THEN POP INTO 4TH. IT ALSO STARTED DOING THE SAME THING WHILE GOING INTO REVERSE FROM DRIVE AND VICE VERSA. I JUST THINK IT'S QUITE SUSPICIOUS THAT THESE PROBLEMS I'VE BEEN HAVING WITH THIS CAR JUST STARTED HAPPENING WITHIN A COUPLE THOUSAND MILES OF MY WARRANTY ENDING. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 MAXIMA WITH 78,000 MILES. ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING WHEN SHIFTING FROM GEAR 1 TO GEAR 2. ALSO JERKING FROM REVERSE INTO DRIVE. AFTER STOPPING, THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE AND THE RPMS SKY ROCKET UNTIL THE GEAR ENGAGES. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BUT THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHERE STOPPING AND STARTING IS REQUIRED DUE TO STOP SIGNS AND LIGHTS. IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN ANOTHER CAR REAR-ENDING ME BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ENGAGE IMMEDIATELY WHEN ACCELERATING. *TR
I WAS A PROUD OWNER OF A 2006 MAXIMA BUT NOW I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO, MY CAR STARTED JERKING WHEN SWITCHING GEARS, ACCELERATING, PARKING, AND SLOWING DOWN. I WENT TO NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION HAD INTERNAL FAILURES AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT $4200.00!!! MY CAR ONLY HAS 73,000 MILES SHOULD NOT NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES AND HAVE FILED A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSAN BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT THEIR TRANSMISSIONS ARE MESSED UP AND THEY ARE TRYING NOT TO OWN UP TO IT. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE WHEN IT JERKS VIOLENTLY OR STALLS, YOU LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR WHICH IS VERY SCARY AND TERRIFYING. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN AGAIN!!! *TR
AFTER CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND HESITATES WHEN SHIFTING, ESPECIALLY INTO AND OUT OF 3RD GEAR. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO TELL THEM WHAT WAS WRONG, HE ASKED ME IF MY TRANSMISSION WAS ACTING UP. WHEN I SAID YES HE RATTLED OFF ABOUT 5 THINGS PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING (HARD SHIFTING IN REVERSE, HESITATION IN UPSHIFTING, ETC) AND I SAID YES TO EACH ONE. WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT HE SAID IT WOULD BE $4,000 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION BECAUSE ALL OF THEM HAVE THAT PROBLEM. I CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT PAYING FOR IT AND THEY REFUSED, TWICE. I'VE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO A HANDFUL OF ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS. SWITCHING LANES TO PASS SOMEONE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES AND SENDS THE RPM'S TO 7000 AND I ALMOST GET REAR-ENDED, THEN WHEN IT DOES SHIFT IT JERKS SO HARD THE CAR SWERVES ALL OVER THE ROAD. IT SHIFTS SO HARD MY ENGINE MOUNTS ARE BROKEN AND NEED REPLACED TOO. *TR
WHEN I'M DRIVING SLOW IN MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA, THE RPMS JUMP UP TO 3000. WHEN I PRESS ON THE GAS IT DOESN'T ACCELERATE, THE RPMS JUST JUMP HIGH. IT MAINLY HAPPENS WHEN I'M DRIVING SLOW THROUGH RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 20 MPH WHEN VEHICLE JERKED WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
WHILE DRIVING THROUGH THE TOWN OF WESTPORT, CT, THE CAR STARTED TO JERK AND THEN IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET PAST 25 MILES PER HOUR AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR SHUT OFF A COUPLE OF TIMES. I THEN MADE IT TO A GAS STATION AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STARTED UP AND I MADE IT HOME. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION ON MY CAR THAT CAUSES JERKING, GEAR SLIPPING AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND CUT OFFS THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF (ON THE 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA MODELS) AND THEY HAVE NOT ADDRESSED ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS OR ISSUES. I GUESS THEY WILL WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. IT IS GOING TO COST ME $3000.00 TO GET MY CAR FIXED WHEN IT SHOULD BE FREE BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT IN THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS MODEL YEAR CAR. *TR
I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA STARTED TO SHIFT HARD WHILE DRIVING AND JERK INTO GEAR. I BOUGHT IT THREE YEARS PRIOR AS PREOWNED FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. IT HAD 106K MILES ON IT WHEN IT STARTED TO SHIFT HARD AND JERK. I TOOK IT TO PAT PECK NISSAN IN MOBILE, AL TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION BANDS WERE GOING OUT AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ONCE I STARTED TO GOOGLE NISSAN MAXIMA TRANSMISSIONS, I CAME ACROSS WHERE A CIVIL LAWSUIT WAS FILED AGAINST NISSAN IN 2012 CLAIMING THAT NISSAN KNEW OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2004-2006 NISSAN MAXIMAS AND ALTIMAS. I CONTACTED THE CORPORATE OFFICE OF NISSAN WITH MY ISSUE AND TO SEE IF THEY WERE GOING TO MAKE THIS RIGHT. I THEN HAD TO CALL THEM BACK FOR AN STATUS ON MY CASE AND I WAS THEN TOLD THAT BECAUSE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED (4 MONTHS PRIOR) THAT NISSAN WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST ME WITH THIS PROBLEM. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT MY EXPIRED WARRANTY HAS TO DO WITH A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION?? A TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT BE GOING OUT WITH 106K MILES, MOSTLY HIGHWAY AND THE CAR HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. WHILE I WAS ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THE LAWSUIT, THERE WERE SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF PEOPLE WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD GO OUT IN EVERYONE'S CAR THAT HAS A 2004-2006 MAXIMA OR ALTIMA! I HAVE OWNED THREE NISSAN TOTAL AND I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER NISSAN AGAIN. *TR
THE VEHICLE SHIFTS REALLY HARD BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. *TR

RECENT DANGEROUS ISSUES WITH MY 2006 MAXIMA. LATELY IT HAS BEEN JUMPING, OR JERKING WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, OR AFTER MILD BRAKING. IT IS SO SUDDEN, FEELS LIKE I MAY HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED! I NOTICED TWO WEEKS AGO A LITTLE JUMP IN THE RPMS, BUT NOTHING TOO MAJOR. ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND "EVERYTHING LOOKED GOOD". THAT'S WHAT THEY ALWAYS SAY.. SAT AUG, 2, 2013, TURNED INTO A RESIDENTIAL AREA FROM A HIGHWAY, MY RPMS JUMPED SO HIGH AND MY CAR SEEMED TO ALMOST STALL OR FREEZE, IT JUMPED TO RPM 6. I WAS SO STARTLED I STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. LATER IN THE NIGHT IT DROVE AGAIN FINE. TWO DAYS LATER, AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR DID IT AGAIN, UP TO 5, THEN A MOMENT LATER UP TO 4-5. I THEN CAME TO A FOUR WAY STOP AND GENTLY ACCELERATED ONLY FOR MY CAR TO FREEZE/JUMP/JERK AGAIN BUT THIS TIME ALL THE WAY TO 7. I HAD TO DRIFT OFF TO THE SIDE OF ROAD AND TURN MY CAR OFF AGAIN. SAT THERE FOR 20 MIN UNTIL TRYING TO START ENGINE AND DRIVE HOME, 3 MILES FROM HOME, EXITING A MAJOR HIGHWAY. 10- 45 MPH. NOT CATCHING THE CORRECT GEAR, OR NOT RECEIVING THE FUEL PROPERLY TO THE ENGINE, INHIBITING ALL DRIVING ABILITIES, SPEED AND SAFETY. LITERALLY CAN FEEL IT AS A DRIVER. INCREDIBLY SCARY, SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE, EXPENSIVE CAR. DO NOT WANT TO BE KILLED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER, ALL BECAUSE NISSAN WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY, CLAIM A RECALL THAT IS OBVIOUSLY A NATION WIDE ISSUE. 255 OUT OF 375 COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITES ARE FOR THE POWER TRAIN OF 2006 MAXIMAS. POWER TRAIN=THAT IS 92.7 % OF THE PROBLEM WITH 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. IF THAT DOES NOT CONSTITUTE FAULT, THEN WHAT DOES? HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO BE INJURED, OR KILLED BEFORE THIS IS RECOGNIZED? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEFT REAR ABS SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ACTUATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
MY CAR STARTED TO JERK AND HAD TROUBLE MOVING FROM ONE GEAR TO THE NEXT. AS I STARTED TO ACCELERATE, THE ENGINE WOULD REV FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN JERK, AND FINALLY SHIFT TO THE NEXT GEAR. WHEN PARALLEL PARKING, IT WOULD JERK UPON SHIFTING. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT STALLING IN TRAFFIC AND POSSIBLY BEING HIT. ON 7/1/13 I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE NEXT DAY THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND VALVE BODY; ESTIMATED COST $6,000. *TR
AFTER MY CAR WARMS UP IF I GO FROM NEUTRAL TO DRIVE IT DOES NOT CHANGE IMMEDIATELY. IT TAKES ABOUT 3 TO 5 SECONDS THEN IT SLAMS INTO GEAR. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT JERKS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 1-2 AND R- D. THE ENGINE REEVES WHILE THE SHIFTING . *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE VALVE GASKET WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST FOR A SECOND OPINION AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 124,000.
SUDDENLY BROKE DOWN WHILE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. CAR WAS TOWED AND HAD CAM SENSORS REPLACED. TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SLIP SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT THEN WOULD BEGIN TO ABRUPTLY SHIFT BUT NOT GAIN SPEED. THERE WAS ALSO KNOCKING WHEN SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND VICE VERSA. WOULD AT TIMES BE STUCK AT 20MPH OR THE ENGINE WOULD REV. HAD TO PULL OVER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR FEARING THAT IT MIGHT ACCELERATE AND REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE OR ABRUPTLY LOSE SPEED AND MYSELF BE REAR ENDED. ALSO LETS OFF A HORRIBLE SULFUR SMELL. WAS DIAGNOSED WITH TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 8/22/13 WITH 48500 MILES. *TT

WE JUST PURCHASED THIS MAXIMA APPROXIMATELY A MONTH AGO. ONCE THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES STRAIGHT, THERE IS SEVERE JERKING AND HESITATION AS IT ATTEMPTS TO SHIFT GEARS. WE EVEN EXPERIENCE THIS WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. IT ALMOST FEELS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO FALL OUT. IT IS NOW IN THE SHOP DUE TO TRANSMISSION REPAIR. I SEE THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED AGAIN NISSAN DUE TO THE FACT THE THEY HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND ARE NOT ATTEMPTING TO FIX THE ISSUE. WE ARE NOW OUT OF MONEY FOR AN ISSUE THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE MADE VERY PUBLIC. HAD WE KNOWN IN THE BEGINNING ABOUT THIS INCIDENT, WE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN A DIFFERENT VEHICLE. LUCKILY FOR US, WE WERE NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT LIKE MANY PEOPLE IN THE CASES. I THINK THAT A RECALL NEEDS TO BE PLACED IN ORDER DUE TO THIS DEFECT. I DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO EXPERIENCE WHAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING. NO ONLY ARE WE STILL PAYING ON THE VEHICLE, WE ARE NOW OUT OF ROUGHLY $3,000 FOR A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AT 40 MPH IN LIGHT RAIN. AS I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT, I LIGHTLY GOT ON THE BRAKES. IMMEDIATELY, THE ABS KICKED IN. THE AMOUNT OF BRAKING FORCE WAS WELL BELOW THE MARGIN WHERE ABS SHOULD KICK IN. THINKING IT WAS A ONETIME DEAL, I DROVE CAUTIOUSLY AND TRIED BRAKING AGAIN. THIS ABS AGAIN KICKED IN IMMEDIATELY. THE ABS KICKING IN DID LENGTHEN THE STOPPING DISTANCE AS I WAS NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES HARD ENOUGH TO EFFECTIVELY SLOW DOWN. ON THE NEXT ATTEMPT, ACCELERATION, TRACTION CONTROL KICKED IN UPON ACCELERATION, CAUSING THE CAR TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. MY CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE SHOP WHERE THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR HAD BUILD UP ON IT. CHECKING FORUMS ABOUT MY CAR, THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE AND SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, A COLLISION COULD HAVE RESULTED DUE TO THE ISSUE. I HAD TO DO REPLACE A WORN ENGINE MOUNT ON MY CAR, WHICH REQUIRED LOWERING THE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER (NISSAN SPEAK), OR CRADLE AS I CALL IT. I NOTICED THAT THE FRONT MOUNTING STUDS WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED. I DO LIVE IN A SNOW/SALT STATE, OHIO. THE REAR STUDS LOOKED OK. THE WORST OF THE FRONT STUDS HAD APPROXIMATELY 25% OF THE STUD ROTTED AWAY DUE TO CORROSION. THIS IS NOT A SIMPLE REPLACEABLE A BOLT, SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REASSEMBLE THE CRADLE WITH THE STUDS AS IS. IF THESE STUDS WERE TO FAIL, THE RESULT COULD BE CATASTROPHIC. I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS. AS A SIDE NOTE, THIS SAME CAR HAD A SEVERELY CORRODED FLOOR THAT HAD TO BE CUT OUT AND REPAIRED AS WELL. I HAVE BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE ENGINE MOUNTS AT A COST OF ALMOST $1000 AND THAT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. NOW THEY ARE STATING THE PROBLEM IS THE VALVE BODY. I BROUGHT IT FOR A SECOND OPINION TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY STATE THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $3500. I AM ABOUT TO BRING IT FOR A THIRD OPINION TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN IN MY OPINION BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION COULD COMPLETELY STALL OR GIVE OUT WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE FOUND OUT ABOUT CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS AGAINST NISSAN AND HAVE FOUND OUT THAT NISSAN HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS (IN THE ALTIMA), BUT I DON'T HAVE THAT TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT THE NHTSA LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM FURTHER AND TAKE A LOOK AT THE SHEER NUMBER OF OWNERS WHO ARE DEALING WITH THIS PROBLEM OR WHO HAVE. SUDDEN ACCELERATION AFTER THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. VEHICLE 1 HIT TWO OTHER VEHICLES, MINOR DAMAGE TO THEM AND THEN VEHICLE 1 FLIPPED ONTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. NISSAN MAXIMA HAS BEEN SERVICED TWICE FOR SUDDEN ACCELERATION AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. THE NISSAN MAXIMA WAS JUDGED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS DUE TO THE DAMAGE INCURRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WHILE THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON THREE OCCASIONS, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS AN ABS BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE CAUSING TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE DAMAGES. FIRST AFTER BUYING THIS NISSAN MAXIMA 2006, I NOTICED THAT MY HEAD LIGHT LAMPS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED EVERY 14 MONTHS. I NEVER HAD A CAR WHERE I HAD TO REPLACE THE HEAD LIGHT LAMPS SO OFTEN. BOTH OF MY OTHER CARS (TOYOTA AND HONDA) HAVE OVER 100K MILES AND WE NEVER HAD TO CHANGE THE LAMPS ON THOSE CARS. NEXT, THE ABS BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY, REALLY? AFTER 70K MILES? WOW! LATER I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. THE ABS APPEAR TO BE RUNNING WHILE THE CAR IS MOVING AND ON DRY ROADS. FINALLY, THE TRANSMISSION. WHY DO I HAVE A SLIPPING TRANSMISSION ON A CAR WITH ONLY 64K MILES. AFTER RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT THE PROBLEMS THAT I'M HAVING WITH THIS NISSAN MAXIMA, HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I ALWAYS HAD HONDA AND TOYOTA CARS AND I DECIDED TO TRY SOMETHING NEW IN THIS MAXIMA. I WILL NEVER BUY NISSAN AGAIN, I'M RUNNING BACK TO HONDA AND TOYOTA!!! *TR
