THE VEHICLE IS VIOLENTLY JERKING AND SWITCHING BETWEEN GEARS WHILE SLOWING DOWN OR GOING DOWN HILL. *TR
TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WHILE IN TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY, THE ENGINE REVVED UP THEN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED BACK INTO GEAR, JERKING THE CAR FORWARD AND NEARLY REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES IN SUBSEQUENT DAYS UNTIL I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA 2 IN 2009 WITH 35,000 MILES. AT 75,000 MILES I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD OCCASIONAL JERK WITH CHANGING LOWER GEARS (20-30 MPH) AND THAT IT WOULD VIOLENTLY DOWN SHIFT WHEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A STOP. THESE ACTIONS ONLY OCCUR AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 20 MINUTES OR MORE. THE DEALERSHIPS SAY THAT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT IT WILL COST $4,000 TO REPLACE. THE VEHICLE HAS 80,000 MILES AT THIS POINT AND THAT IS NOT ENOUGH MILES TO WARRANT A NEW TRANSMISSION. IN RESEARCHING THE INTERNET I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON THEME WITH THE 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA . THIS ISSUES PRESENT SAFETY ISSUES AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY NISSAN. *TR
THIS IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE, BUT 'TRANSMISSION' WASN'T LISTED AS A CHOICE SO I CHOSE 'POWER TRAIN'. I WAS ACCELERATING ON AN INTERSTATE ONRAMP, PREPARING TO ENTER THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. WHILE ACCELERATING, I NOTICED THE CAR AHEAD OF ME WAS NOT ACCELERATING AT THE SAME RATE SO I LET OFF THE GAS TO SLOW DOWN. THE CAR AHEAD THEN SPED UP, SO I ATTEMPTED TO ASSUME ACCELERATING TO ENTER THE HIGHWAY. AT THAT POINT THE ENGINE QUICKLY REVVED UP AS THOUGH I WERE IN NEUTRAL. THAT LASTED FOR A BRIEF MOMENT, THEN SUDDENLY THE TRANSMISSION SLAMMED INTO GEAR WITH SUCH FORCE THAT THE FRONT TIRES LOST TRACTION AND THE CAR LURCHED HARD TO THE LEFT. MY REACTION WAS TO ADJUST QUICKLY TO THE RIGHT, TO PREVENT CUTTING ACROSS BUSY LANES. I LEFT THE ROADWAY TO THE RIGHT, FORTUNATELY NO COLLISION WITH ANYTHING EXCEPT A CURB. SKIDDED TO A STOP THERE IN THE GRASSY AREA RIGHT OF THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR. THERE WERE SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE TO WORK AND I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS AND THE CAR RPM WENT UP BUT MY CAR DID NOT MOVED. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER IT JERK REALLY HARD INTO GEAR AND MOVED. I GOT SCARED BECAUSE CARS WERE IN FRONT OF ME AND I DIDN'T KNOW IF MY CAR WAS GOING TO RUN RIGHT IN THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE WALDORF, MD NISSAN DEALERSHIP. WHEN I WAS PURCHASING THIS CAR MY MAIN CONCERN WAS SAFETY. I WAS PREGNANT AND I HAD TWO OTHER SMALL CHILDREN THAT I TRANSPORT BACK AND FORTH FROM SCHOOL. NOW I DON'T EVEN FEEL SAFE TO HAVE MY CHILDREN IN MY CAR. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BOTTLE IN MY CAR OR BETTER YET GET ANOTHER TRANSMISSION DUE TO NISSAN BUILDING THESE CARS POORLY. ONE I AM A SINGLE WORKING PARENT TRYING TO PROVIDE FOR MY FAMILY. AND NOW I AM STUCK WITH A CAR THAT HAS KNOWN TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I KNOW THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE SITUATION AND THIS IS VERY UNPROFESSIONAL FOR THEM NOT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHAT IF ONE OF MY CHILDREN WHERE HURT DUE TO THE CAR JERKING OR DOWN SHIFTING WHEN IT ISN'T SUPPOSE TO. WHAT IF MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE LOST THEIR LIFE DUE TO NISSAN NOT WANTING TO FIX THE ISSUE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT. I PRAY THAT SOMEONE AT NISSAN WILL OWN UP TO THIS AND FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. AND IF IT TAKES MYSELF AND OTHERS TO KEEP CALLING OR TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND COMPLAIN OR BETTER YET CALL THE LOCAL NEWS AND HAVE THEM COVER A STORY BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD LIKE TO SEE A MOTHER OR HER CHILDREN GET HURT BY A POOR BUILT VEHICLE!!!! *TR
MY CAR BEGAN SHIFTING (ABRUPTLY AND HARD) WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING I'D SAY MAYBE 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. IT WAS DISSATISFIED TO KNOW AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND NISSAN WILL HAVE NO PART IN RESOLVING THE PROBLEM. NOT HAPPY!! SO NOW I MUST REPLACE THE VALVE BODY FROM WHAT I'VE FOUND BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE TRANNY JUST "THE BRAINS" FOR THE TRANNY. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD SNAPPING SOUND FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WAS FLAT AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRINGS WERE FRACTURED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WOULD ALSO NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,743 UPDATED 04/26/12*LJ THE STRUTS AND STABILIZER BAR WERE REPLACED. UPDATED 04/27/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY CORROSION OF THE ABS SENSORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST OR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION SURGING AND THEN A HARD JERK OR GEAR SHIFT.TOOK IT TO THE SHOP, AND BEFORE CHECKING, THE SHOP OWNER WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUE BECAUSE MINE WAS THE 4TH '06 MAXIMA THAT HAD BEEN BROUGHT IN THAT WEEK WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE A BLACK CAR THATS 6 YEARS OLD AND THE PAINT HAS FADED ALMOST TO WHITE ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR. *TR
THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE. THE TRANSMISSION WILL JERK THE CAR AT ANY GIVEN TIME, WHICH INCREASES THE CHANCES OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH THIS CAR. THIS MAY BE ONLY ONE ISSUE HOWEVER IT IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ONE. THE CERTIFIED NISSAN DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT WOULD COST AROUND FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THIS TO BE CORRECTED INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR. THERE NEEDS TO BE AN RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE RIGHT AWAY. *JS
ABS ACTIVATES EVERY TIME BRAKE IS PRESSED. ALSO, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM HUMS BEFORE I HIT BRAKES. CORROSION PROBLEM PER SERVICE TECH AT NISSAN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD CONSUME LARGE QUANTITIES OF OIL ABNORMALLY, WHICH THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED COULD POSSIBLY RESULT IN IMPROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE PISTON RINGS. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS STORING THE OIL WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE A FIRE OR ENGINE DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V223000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 113,680.
I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR JERKING PROFUSELY WHEN SWITCHING GEARS. IT WILL DO THIS AS WELL WHEN I COME TO A STOP AND THEN TAKE OFF. THERE IS SOMETHING DEFINITELY WRONG WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR VEHICLE. I LOVE MY CAR BUT AFTER SEEING THROUGHOUT THE INTERNET ALOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, I DO NOT BELIEVE MY NEXT PURCHASE WILL BE A NISSAN. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RECALLING AND FIXING THIS ISSUE. MAYBE FAMILIES THAT HAVE LOST LOVED ONES WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE SHOULD INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF ACCIDENT A LITTLE FURTHER. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA SE FROM A USED CAR DEALER WITH ROUGHLY 36,000 MILES ON IT IN 2006 MARCH. THE CAR RAN GREAT FOR A WHILE, BUT RIGHT AROUND WHEN IT HIT ABOUT 65,000 MILES IT STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. INITIALLY, THE PROBLEM WOULD ONLY SURFACE WHEN I PUT MY CAR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, AND THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD VIOLENTLY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THAT 2003-2006 NISSAN MAXIMA'S WERE KNOWN TO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION, BUT SAID IT IS NOT COVERED BY ANY RECALL AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY A WARRANTY AS MY CAR WAS BEYOND THE 5 YR COVERAGE PERIOD. THE CAR NOW HAS 94,000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE CAR TRANSMISSION SLIPS INTERMITTENTLY WHICH LEADS TO PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION OR MAINTAINING SPEED AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND DUE TO THIS REASON I AVOID DRIVING ON FREEWAYS. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SENSOR FOR THE REAR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
THE CAR HAS HESITATED TO REACH THE NEXT GEAR. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS JERK GETTING INTO GEAR. ON A FEW INSTANCES WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE THERE WAS A VERY HARD JERK AND LOUD NOISE. THIS OCCURRED WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR WHICH WAS SCARY. THE CAR HAS SHIFTED HARD WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND HAS TAKEN A WHILE TO PICK UP SPEED TO THE NEXT GEAR. *TR
FOR ABOUT THE LAST 15-20K MILES MY TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING AND CAUSING MY CAR TO JERK AT DIFFERENT TIMES THROUGHOUT MY DAILY DRIVE. MY TRANSMISSION FINALLY QUIT WORKING WHILE TRYING TO ASCEND A SMALL HILL MY PARKING GARAGE. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SMOKING AND FINALLY STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED AND THE REPAIRS ARE QUOTED AT A MINIMUM FOR $1600. OF COURSE THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IT MAKES NO SENSE THAT ARE CAR WITH BARELY 100K MILES SHOULD HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *TR

THE RPMS INCREASED TO 6,000 ABNORMALLY AS THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000. UPDATED 03/05/12*LJ UPDATED 03/08/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
I DROVE TO WORK WHICH IS ABOUT 10 MILES FROM MY RESIDENCE,PARKED TO RETRIEVE SOME PAPREWORK THEN RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE. I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE,WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES AS REQUIRED WHILE CHANGING GEARS.THERE WAS A BIG TIME DELAY BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED INTO THE DRIVE POSITION.THERE ALSO WAS A LOUD AND VERY HARD "BANG" CAUSING ME TO BE FORCED REARWARD IN THE SEAT AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD, AS IF THERE WAS NOT A FOOT ON THE BRAKES. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE IS ENGAGED IN THE DRIVE POSITION. I SPOKE TO A REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW IN APRIL OF 2006,ALL THEY HAD TO SAY IS I MUST PAY $109 FOR A DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM AND HOPEFULLY THEY COULD DUPLICATE IT. I ALSO SPOKE TO NISSAN AMERICA CONSUMER HOTLINE AND THEY ALSO SAID THAT I MUST HAVE IT DEALT WITH THROUGH THE DEALER, AND THEY WILL SEE WHAT THEY COULD DO .AT THE TIME OF THIS ENTRY,THE VEHICLE HAS 55000 MILE EXACT. I HAVE BEEN ON NUMEROUS SITE ONLINE AND SAW COMPLIANTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, WITH THE TRANSMISSION AS A KNOWN FAULT. TRANSMISSIONS FROM NISSAN BETWEEN THE YEARS OF 2004 TO 2007.ALL THE COMPLAINANTS STATES THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN ANY SOLUTION FROM NISSAN AMERICA. *TR
I HAVE HAD RECURRING ISSUES WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS APRIL 2008 WHEN I NEEDED THE ABS SENSORS REPLACED. APRIL 9 2009, NISSAN REPLACED THE REAR HUB ASSEMBLY. OCTOBER 2009 NISSAN REMOVED THE ABS SENSOR AND CLEAN THE CONTACTS. THEN IN MAY 2011, I BROUGHT MY CAR IN BECAUSE THE ABS WAS ACTIVATING BUT THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. IN FEBRUARY 2012 NISSAN REPLACED THE ABS SENSOR AND ACTUATOR AT A COST OF 3K. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME PRICE WISE SINCE ALL MY PREVIOUS WORK WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NO RECALL. *TR
CAR BEGAN TO JERK FORWARD IN TRAFFIC, AND UPON GOING UPHILL WOULD LOSE POWER, DUE TO TRANSMISSION JERKING AT SPEEDS 35MPH AND UP, RPM WOULD REDLINE AT 55MPH ON FREEWAY, WHICH WOULD CAUSE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME TO GAIN DISTANCE, LEAVING ME NO POWER TO MOVE OR AVOID THEM. WOULD JERK FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE OUT OF DRIVEWAY. TRANSMISSION SENSORS AND TRASMISSION WERE REPLACED TOTAL $3900.00

MY 2006 MAXIMA HAS 27,474 MILES ON IT. THE CAR STARTED MAKING A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING GOING WRONG. NO WARNING LIGHTS. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALER WHO TOLD US THAT THE BRAKES WERE FINE, BUT WE NEEDED TIRES. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE SOUND WAS LOUDER AND CONSTANT WHEN THE CAR WAS MOVING. I TOOK IT INTO A DIFFERENT NISSAN DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT PROBABLY WAS THE ABS BRAKE BECAUSE THIS IS A "COMMON PROBLEM" WITH THE 2006 MAXIMAS. DIAGNOSIS IS AS FOLLOWS: NO CODES STORED. SENSORS NOT TRIPPED. AFTER TEST DRIVING, VERIFIED ABS TURNING ON WITHOUT TOUCHING BRAKES. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME, BUT THAT IT SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN ONCE WE ARRIVED HOME. REPAIR RECOMMENDATION: START BY REPLACING BOTH REAR HUBS AND ABS SENSORS. QUOTED PRICE OF $1,097.08. POSSIBILITY CAR MAY ALSO NEED ABS ACTUATOR. IF ABS ACTUATOR NEEDED QUOTED PRICE OF $1787.00. MY REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE FROM NISSAN FOR THESE REPAIRS WAS FLATLY DENIED. EVEN THOUGH THIS VEHICLE ONLY HAS 27,000 MILES ON IT, NISSAN DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY AND REFUSED TO ASSIST A LOYAL CUSTOMER, WHO HAS BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST 4 WEEKS NOW. I HAVE OWNED 7 PREVIOUS NISSAN VEHICLES. I THOUGHT AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD COVER THIS EXPENSE THROUGH THEIR "LOYALTY" WARRANTY. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, WITH NO WARNING, THE ABS LAMP, TCS LIGHT AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE BRAKES BECAME SENSITIVE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE ABS ACTUATOR WAS DEFECTIVE, RENDERING THE ABS SYSTEM, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION INACTIVE. THE COST OF THE ABS ACTUATOR ALONE WAS $1,300; 75% OF THE TOTAL REPAIR BILL WHICH COST, I FEEL, IS EXORBITANT AND EXCESSIVE. UPDATED IVOQ 03/20/12 *TR

THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
MY CAR WAS BOUGHT AT A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN 2011 OF DECEMBER, IN JANUARY I NOTICED THE CAR JERKING AND SHIFTING WHILE DRIVING 20 TO 30 MILES. SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL ONLY GIVE ME ANOTHER CAR ONLY IF THE PROBLEM IS IN THE TRANSMISSION, THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS MY MOTOR MOUNT IS BROKEN, AND THEY DON'T COVER ANYTHING OUTSIDE THE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE ONLY THE INSIDE.. THE TOTAL AMOUNT TO FIX WAS 500 BUT I HAD NO MONEY TO DO IT.THEY GAVE ME AN OPTION OF TAKING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH IT WAS EXPENSIVE FOR ME SO I SHOPPED FOR A WARRANTY AND I GOT A FULL BUMPER TO BUMPER FOR A CHEAPER PRICE THAN WHAT THEY GAVE ME. IT TOOK ME 3MONTHS TO GO BACK TO THE DEALER WITH A NEW WARRANTY THEY FIXED THE MOTOR MOUNT BUT THE ISSUE IS STILL THEIR. A NISSAN TECHNICIAN TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE THEY SUGGESTED THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THERE'S NO WAY I'M WILLING TO GIVE THEM MY CAR AGAIN TO FIX BECAUSE IT TOOK THEM ALONG TIME TO REALIZE THE PROBLEM TELLING ME TO FIX YOUR CAR WE NEED TO GET IT OUT OF IDLE AND EMISSION NEEDS TO BE CHECKED THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE SAYING BEFORE THEY REALIZE ITS A TRANSMISSION..I LOVE NISSAN MAXIMA BUT IN ORDER TO KEEP A CUSTOMER LIKE ME TO STAY LOYAL PLEASE FIX THE ISSUE AND DO THE RIGHT THING BY RECALLING THE VEHICLES. *TR

IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE, VARIOUS INSTANCES OF ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION, INCLUDING MIRROR LIGHTS FLICKERING, DASH LIGHTS FLICKERING/HALF DOESN'T COME ONE, AS WELL AS FAULTY WIRING IN SUN ROOF CAUSING IT TO OPEN AND CLOSES RANDOMLY ON IT'S OWN. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP AND KNOCK HARD INTO GEARS, EVEN THOUGH PROPER MAINTENANCE WAS ALWAYS COMPLETED. BRAKES REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. SUSPENSION LACKING. AS OF LAST WEEK, THE TRACTION/SLIP LIGHTS COME ON AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY, ALMOST CAUSING SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I WAS LOOKING AT PURCHASING A NISSAN MAXIMA. I FOUND ONE THAT IS AN 2006, TEST DROVE IT AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT TO BE A PERFECT CAR. NO ACCIDENTS AND I RECEIVED AND CLEAN CAR FAX ON THE CAR. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE WITH 78K MILES AND THE DAY I PURCHASED IT AND DROVE IT OFF THE LOT, I STARTED EXPERIENCING JERKING WITH THE SHIFTING OF THE GEARS. WHEN I TEST DROVE THIS VEHICLE TWICE ON DIFFERENT DAYS I NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY JERKING WITH THE CAR. SO, I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR BACK THE SAME DAY I PURCHASED IT ONLY A FEW HOURS LATER, COME TO FIND OUT THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. IT HAS BEEN A WEEK TODAY THAT I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY NEW CAR THAT I PURCHASED AND STILL WON'T GET IT BACK UNTIL THE END OF THE WEEK, BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TO DO. I WAS FIRST TOLD THAT THE CATAYLIC CONVERTER WAS GONE, HAD THAT REPLACED, THEN WAS TOLD 2 MOTOR MOUNTS WERE GONE, HAD THEM REPLACED AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, WITH THE CAR JERKING WITH A HARD KNOCK INTO 1 AND 2ND GEAR AND NOW IT IS ACCELERATING WHILE DRIVING AND JERKING INTO GEAR. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVE SPENT $21,000+ ON THIS CAR TO GET NOTHING BUT DEPT OUT OF IT! I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA HOME ON THE INTERSTATE IN 5-O-CLOCK TRAFFIC AND THE TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE AND WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO GET INTO THE RIGHT LANE WITHOUT HITTING ANOTHER CAR OR CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I THEN ROLLED TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND WAS ABLE TO BREAK TO A STOP, BUT OF COURSE WITH THE TRANSMISSION GONE I COULDN'T EVEN ROLL THE CAR HOME. I HAD THE CAR TOWED. THIS WASN'T TOO MUCH OF A SURPRISE AS I HAD SPOKEN WITH A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP JUST A FEW MONTHS PRIOR AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW VALVE BODY, THE ONE ON THIS PARTICULAR CAR IS COMMONLY SEEN AND REPLACED ALL THE TIME. AT THAT TIME HE QUOTED ME $1800 FOR THE PART/LABOR, WHICH I DIDN'T HAVE SO I AGREED TO COME BACK WHEN I RECEIVED MORE FINANCIAL AID FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER. WHEN I CONTACTED THE SHOP THIS TIME AROUND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE I'D UNFORTUNATELY NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION ALTOGETHER. A USED ONE ONLY HAS A 90 DAY WARRANTY AND HE QUOTED ME AROUND $2700-$3000. THE VALVE BODY COULD BE THE SAME DEFECTIVE ONE AS BEFORE, AND BEING USED, I COULD EASILY WIND UP IN THE SAME BOAT 90 DAYS LATER. HE SAID HE'D CALL BACK TO GIVE ME A QUOTE ON A REBUILT TRANSMISSION, BUT THAT IT WOULD COST MORE AND COME WITH A LONGER WARRANTY, POSSIBLY 2 YEARS. I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. APPARENTLY SINCE I DIDN'T DIE YET OR CAUSE ANYONE ELSE TO DIE IT'S OK. *TR
I FELT ABS SYSTEM ACTUATING VIA PUMPING SENSATION IN MY BRAKE PEDAL WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT. IT PERFORMED WORSE WHEN GOING UPHILL, AT LOW SPEEDS AND ON FLAT SURFACES. ERROR CODES WERE GENERATED AND "DUMMY" LIGHTS WENT ON. THE BRAKING WAS NOT VERY EFFECTIVE AS A RESULT OF THE ABS KICKING IN ERRONEOUSLY. THANKFULLY I WAS KEEPING A SAFE FOLLOWING DISTANCE AND WAS ABLE TO BRAKE WITH SOME ROOM TO SPARE BUT IF I HAD REGULAR BRAKES WITHOUT THE ABS MALFUNCTIONING, I WOULD HAVE STOPPED MORE QUICKLY. THANKFULLY NOBODY WAS HURT THIS TIME. MECHANIC INVESTIGATION INDICATED THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THE SERVICE BULLETIN: NTB07-016B HAS THE INFORMATION YOU NEED TO FIX THE ABS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT CAUGHT IN TIME TO HELP ME AVOID A FAILED ACTUATOR. *TR

I WAS DRIVING 45MPH AND CAME TO A RED LIGHT WHICH I STOPPED AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PLACED MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND MY NISSAN WOULD NOT GET PAST 3RD GEAR AND JERKED REALLY BAD BEFORE IT WOULD ACCELERATE. IT WAS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AS IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE CAR. I MANAGED TO DRIVE AT A LOWER CONSTANT SPEED TO GET US TO OUR DESTINATION. I DROPPED THE CAR OFF AT MY MECHANIC THAT NIGHT. HE SAYS THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH WILL COST $3,300. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY MAXIMA ACCORDING TO THE DEALER GUIDELINES SINCE MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED THE CAR, INCLUDING A RECENT 100K TUNE A FEW WEEKS AGO. MY MECHANIC SAYS THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS PROBLEM BUT NISSAN IS NOT TAKING ANY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. IT IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS OF THE NEWER MAXIMAS. THERE MUST BE AN APPARENT ENGINEERING DEFECT AS NISSAN REQUESTS THAT THE OLD TRANSMISSION BE SENT TO THEM AND THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION THEY WILL SEND MY MECHANIC WAS PREVIOUSLY SOME ELSE'S TRANSMISSION IN WHICH THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. ONLY A LIMITED 12 MONTH/12K MILES WARRANTY IS OFFERED ON THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION. WE CAN NOT DRIVE THIS UNSAFE CAR. WITHOUT THE REPAIRS, THE CAR IS OF LITTLE VALUE. I BOUGHT THE CAR AFTER IT WAS INSPECTED BY A NISSAN DEALERSIP AT 60,000 MILES. THE INSPECTION SHOWED IT TO BE IN "EXCELLENT" CONDITION. AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, 8,000 MILES LATER THE TRANSMISSION FAILS WHILE I'M DRIVING. AFTER THAT I LEFT AND TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC WHEN HE INFORMED ME THAT MANY MAXIMA'S FROM 2004-2006 HAD THE SAME ISSUES. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THE MAJORITY OF THE MAXIMA'S HAD TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS AS EARLY AS 35,000 MILES. I CONTACTED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND EVEN GAVE THEM THE CODES FOR THE MALFUNCTION GIVEN TO ME BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THEY STATED NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS I MUST GET A DIAGNOSIS RAN FROM A NISSAN DEALERSHIP. AFTER I DID THE DIAGNOSIS THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T HELP ME BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, AS IF I DIDN'T KNOW THAT. I TOLD THEM I SHOULD RECEIVE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE BEING THAT THEY ARE SELLING A PRODUCT THAT DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, I TOLD THEM ABOUT MY PAST, VERY OLD, NISSANS WHICH RAN WITHOUT ANY ISSUES EVEN ONE REACHING 200,000 MILES BEFORE I DECIDED TO UPGRADE TO A NEWER MODEL, AND THEY BASICALLY KEPT SAYING THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. THEY NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEY'RE ACTIONS AND DO A RECALL BECAUSE IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE MAXIMAS TRANSMISSION DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. I ALSO HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE DIAGNOSIS, PAY TO TOW THE CAR VARIOUS TIMES DUE TO THEM DEMANDING ME TAKE IT TO THEY'RE DEALER, AND I HAD TO PAY A STORAGE FEE FROM THEY'RE DEALER. I WENT WITH NISSAN BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WERE TRUSTWORTHY,I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEATING CORE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIFT VIOLENTLY (CAR WOULD JERK ROUGHLY) FROM 1ST TO 2ND, AND SUBSEQUENT GEAR SHIFTS (2-3, 3-4, ETC.) WOULD SHIFT VERY SLOWLY (THE CAR'S RPM'S WOULD RACE AS THE TRANSMISSION DELAYED SHIFTING INTO THE NEXT GEAR, THEN JUMP VERY HARD INTO GEAR). ALSO, WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP, THE CAR WOULD REMAIN IN A HIGHER GEAR WITHOUT DOWNSHIFTING, THEN ONCE STOPPED FOR A FEW SECONDS THE CAR WOULD VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFT, WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO LURCH FORWARD. SHIFTING FROM PARK OR NEUTRAL TO DRIVE OR REVERSE WOULD TAKE 5-10 SECONDS TO ENGAGE, AND WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO AGAIN JERK AND LURCH VIOLENTLY. THE FINAL ISSUE OCCURRED ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, WHEN THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE, BUT NO LONGER ENGAGED THE GEAR WHILE STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT IN BUSY TRAFFIC. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A MINUTE AND STARTED IT AGAIN. WHEN I DID THIS, I WAS ABLE TO GET FIRST GEAR TO ENGAGE ENOUGH TO ROLL TO A PARKING LOT. ONCE IN THE LOT, THE GEAR STOPPED WORKING AND NO GEAR WOULD ENGAGE AGAIN. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, IN WHICH THEY ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE ($3300-3500 WAS THE ESTIMATE) AS MY WARRANTEE HAD EXPIRED "3 MONTHS AGO". THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, AND JUDGING BY THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS THAT I AM SEEING ON THE INTERNET WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES, I AM DISGUSTED THAT NISSAN IS NOT RECALLING FOR THIS ISSUE, NOR EXTENDING THE WARRANTEE COVERAGE FOR A CLEARLY DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION, AS THEY DID FOR THE CVT THAT THEY OFFER IN THE NEWER MODEL YEAR MAXIMAS. THESE ISSUES ALL OCCURRED WITHIN A ONE MONTH PERIOD. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE AT THE CORRECT LEVEL AND COLOR/CONSISTENCY. *TT

I WAS EXITING A HIGHWAY ON AN OFFRAMP WHEN MY BRAKE LIGHT, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND SLIP LIGHT CAME ON. I APPLIED MY BRAKE AND THERE WAS A LOAD CRUNCH NOISE AND MY BRAKE PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR. IT TOOK AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME FOR THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN AS THE BRAKES WERE GRABBING AND LETTING GO CONTINUOUSLY. LUCKILY THIS OCCURRED DURING MID DAY, AS THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DURING RUSH HOUR AS THE RAMP WOULD HAVE HAD BACKED UP TRAFFIC ON IT. I NEED A ABS ACTUATOR REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $2,500. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AT NISSAN AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ONLINE OF THE ACTUATOR FAILING AROUND 40,000 MILES. SOME PEOPLE HAVE EVEN TURNED OFF THEIR ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF FIXING THE ABS ACTUATOR. *TR
MY 2006 NISSAN MAXIMA, HAS 74000 MILES AND HAS STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF WHAT MAY BE SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. 1. TAKES ABOUT 5 SECONDS TO CLICK INTO GEAR AFTER THE SHIFT LEVER IS PUT IN "D" 2. VERY HARD JERKY SHIFTS BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 1ST AND ACCOMPANIED BY LOUD CLUNKING NOISE. 3. TRANSMISSION SLIPS OUT OF GEAR DURING REGULAR DRIVING ALLOWING THE ENGINE TO REV FREELY THEN JERKING BACK INTO GEAR WITH A LOUD CLUNK. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM, NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON 04-06 MODELS.
