I HAVE OWNED MY NISSAN MURANO 2003 FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS AND A FEW MONTHS AGO IT STARTED TO HESITATE WHILE I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I LEARNED THAT BY TURNING THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW SECONDS THE PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY. THEN LAST WEEK, MY TRANSMISSION STARTED TO MAKE A STRANGE NOISE AND WHEN I WENT TO GET MY CAR FIXED...MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THE CVT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT NISSAN IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN FIX IT. THE CVT IS DESTROYED AFTER 110K MILES AND WITH IT'S DEMISE IT TOOK OUR AND DESTROYED THE TRANSFER CASE TOTALING $7200 TO FIX. WHILE LOOKING AT THE CONSUMER REPORTS FOR THIS VEHICLE...IT LOOKS AS IF I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS SITUATION AND THAT NISSAN HAS TURNED THEIR BACKS ON THIS INITIAL PRODUCT BY NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE DESIGN FLAWS AND CHRONIC PROBLEMS WITH THIS NEW CVT TECHNOLOGY. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR NISSAN TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND MAKE THIS RIGHT BUT IF HISTORY AND THE CORRESPONDENCE WITH OTHER MURANO OWNERS...I AM NOT GOING TO BE SATISFIED WITH NISSAN'S STANCE. I WOULD LIKE TO HELP INITIATE A CLASS ACTION AGAINST NISSAN FOR BOTH THE COST TO FIX THIS KNOWN PROBLEM AND THE FRUSTRATION THIS VEHICLE HAS GIVEN ME. *TR
TRANSMISSION STALLS AT INTERSECTIONS, BARELY MOVES CAR ALMOST HIT IN INTERSECTION. 63,000 MILE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. *TR
NISSAN MURANO SL. WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 65MPH THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP. I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR GOING AGAIN. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A 250 MILE DRIVE I COULD NOT USE MY CELL BECAUSE IT HAPPENED IN A DEAD ZONE. I HAD JUST HAD THE CAR SERVICED WITH A OIL CHANGE THE DAY BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 MURANO, THAT CONTINUES TO HAVE PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH FAILING CAMSHAFT SENSORS. THERE IS A SPECIFIC RECALL THAT COVERS CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR DESIGN ISSUES IN THE 2003 MURANO, BUT NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO COVER THE WORK, SINCE MY VIN DOESN'T FALL WITHIN THE RECALL RANGE. I HAVE EVEN TALKED TO THE VP OF EAST COST CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHO TOLD ME TO REPORT THE PROBLEM TO THE APPROPRIATE GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL MULTIPLE DIFFERENT TIMES OVER THE LAST YEAR. THESE ARE :"SERVICE ENGINE SOON" WARNING LIGHT TO COME ON, CREATE A NO START CONDITION, CAUSE REDUCED ENGINE POWER, OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING DURING VEHICLE OPERATION, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH." IT ALSO INCLUDES THE CAR STALLING AT 45 MPH FOR MY WIFE ON A DANGEROUS WINDING ROAD. FOR A SMALL WOMEN WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES, THIS SITUATION WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. BOTH CAMSHAFT SENSORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ALREADY, AND ONE OF THEM IS FAILING AGAIN FOR THE THIRD TIME. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT $500, AND IT WILL COST AT LEAST THAT MUCH TO PAY FOR THE CHANGES THAT NISSAN REQUIRES UNDER THE RECALL TO REALLY FIX THE NISSAN DESIGN FLAW. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT NISSAN REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH IT IS OBVIOUS THAT I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS THE RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A SNAPPING SOUND UNDERNEATH THE SEAT. WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A TURN, SHE HEARD ANOTHER SNAPPING SOUND AND NOTICED THAT THE SEAT MOVED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES IN THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
I RAN OVER AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD. THE OBJET HIT MY FRONT TIRE THEN THE NISSAN MURANO UNDER CARRIAGE. I DROVE ABOUT 3 MILES, SMELLING GAS, TO A FILLING STATION. I PUMPED GAS BEFORE NOTICING GAS WAS GUSHING OUT THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR (REAR ON DRIVER SIDE). FIVE GALLONS OF GAS SPILLED, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED, CLEANED UP THE HAZMAT & PUSHED MY CAR ASIDE. NISSAN WALDORF MD DEAL IS REPLACING THE GAS TANK (3 INCH SLIT IN GAS TANK) & THE BRACKET THAT CRACKED. THE BRACKET WAS INSTALLED IAW RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V003000 *TR
AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT 30 MIN. EVERYTIME I STEP ON THE GAS THERE IS A 4 TO 6 SECOND DELAY ON ACCELERATION. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE DEALER AND HAVE TAKEN IT TO THEIR REPAIR SHOP AND AT 1ST IT GOES AWAY ( AFTER I GET THE CAR BACK) ONLY TO COME BACK. I HAVE STOPPED TRYING TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURNS, JUST CAUSE IT IS SO DANGEROUS. THE SHOP THAT I WAS DIRECTED TO TAKE THE CAR TO( BY THE DEALERSHIP) FROM TIME TO TIME WOULD TELL ME THAT HE WOULD NOT FIX THE CAR OR THAT I NEEDED TO GET A DIFFERENT CAR. HE WOULD SAY THAT THE CAR IS A PIECE OF JUNK OR THAT HE WOULD NOT FIX IT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER ONE YEAR. *TR
AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT 30 MIN OR SO EVERY TIME I STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE CAR IS DELAYED IN MOVING. IN ADDITION EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR I LOSE POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE CAR SLOWS TO A CRAWL AND STOPS. I WILL THEN HAVE TO COAST THE CAR OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WAIT A FEW MIN AND THEN RESTART. THIS IS VERY SCARY EVERY TIME I TRY TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURNS. OTHER TIMES I AM DRIVING IT JUST WILL NOT MOVE FOR A LONG 5 TO 8 SEC DELAY. CARS COMING AT ME IN AT ANY SPEED HAVE ALMOST HIT ME. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR THE STALLING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE THE CAR. I READ THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL# 03V455000. THE THROTTLE BODY 3 TIMES, TRANSMISSION 2 TIMES. MOTOR MOUNTS AND A HOST OF OTHER PARTS. LET'S SEE OH YEAH THE TCM TWICE. VALVE BODY REPLACED. MILES AT 105,000. I HAVE SPENT OVER $900.00 PLUS. THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM WON'T TAKE IT BACK. AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT OUT OF THIS CAR. COULD ANYONE HELP ME? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE DECELERATED ABNORMALLY. WHILE AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WILL FALL (VISOR GOES TO DOWN POSITION) UNEXPECTEDLY AND SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL SOMETIMES WILL STAY UP WHEN PUSHED BACK UP. HOWEVER, IT WILL NOT STAY IN ANY POSITION BETWEEN UP AND DOWN NOW. THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE VISOR BAR CLIP. IT APPEARS TO BE WITHIN THE VISOR INTERNALS. *TR
ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2007, I TOOK MY CAR TO KERAS NISSAN LOCATED AT 2080 COVINGTON PIKE IN MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE, BECAUSE THE SHOCK ABSORBERS WERE FAILING IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND AGAIN THE CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. I DECIDED TO TAKE MY TRUCK TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I NO LONGER TRUSTED THE WORKMANSHIP OF DOBBS NISSAN, WHERE I MADE THE INITIAL PURCHASE. I DEALT WITH TRAVIS, A SERVICE ADVISOR THAT ADVISED ME THEY WOULD FIND THE PROBLEMS. AFTER MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MOTOR WAS NON-REPAIRABLE. TRAVIS STATED THAT IT LOOKED AS IF I NEVER SERVICED THE ENGINE WITH OIL. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAVE REGULARLY SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE ON THIS VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT I WOULD NEED TO GATHER ALL OF MY OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS TO PRESENT TO NISSAN WARRANTY TO PROVE REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAVE BEEN PERFORMED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. OIL CHANGES AND DATES OF RECEIPTS PROVIDED: DOBBS NISSAN: APRIL 29, 2006 SEPTEMBER 26, 2006 JUNE 13, 2007 DANNY?S CAR CARE: MARCH 9, 2007 MARCH 28, 2007 AUGUST 18, 2007 GOODYEAR: JUNE 23, 2006 JANUARY 3, 2007 FIRESTONE: NOVEMBER 02, 2006 RECEIPTS THE MORNING OF SEPTEMBER 15, 2007. HE CONTACTED ME AROUND 11:15 AM TO INFORM ME THAT THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT WAS DENIED, DUE TO, ?LACK OF MAINTENANCE?. I ASKED TRAVIS TO EXPLAIN TO ME IN DETAIL THE REASON FOR THE DENIAL, AND HIS REPLY WAS SIMPLY, "LACK OF MAINTENANCE?. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE ON A WARRANTED ENGINE. *JB
2 WEEKS AFTER THE 60,000 SERVICE (AT 63,500 K)I HAD MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED. AT THAT TIME, THE DEALER SAID I NEEDED THE TRANSFER CASE SEAL REPLACED ($800). THAT WAS NOT THE REAL PROBLEM, THE BEARINGS WERE DEFECTIVE- I NEED A NEW TRANSFER CASE (REBUILD $900). BUT NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE SO NEED TO BUY NEW TRANSFER CASE FROM NISSAN ($2500). DEFINITELY A 2003 MURANO MANUFACTURE DEFECT. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO WITH 39,893 MILES. SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE DRIVER'S SEAT NEVER FELT SECURE, TIME PASSED AND THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN WORSE, THE DEALER ADVISED I WOULD NEED A NEW SEAT FRAME. I REQUESTED A GOODWILL ADJUSTMENT BUT NISSAN CORP. DENIED MY REQUEST. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE I HAVE A TODDLER AND SHE SITS IN THE BACKSEAT AND IF I WERE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE SEAT FRAME BROKE DURING IMPACT IT WOULD CERTAINLY CAUSE INJURY TO MY TODDLER AND MYSELF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROTORS WEAR PREMATURELY.WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BREAK PEDAL THE VEHICLE SHIMMIES. IF THE BREAK SYSTEM FAILS HIS RISK FOR SERIOUS INJURY AND CRASH IS INCREASED. HE HAS HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED TWICE WITHIN A 20,000 MILE TIME FRAME. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER IN WHICH A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT A RECALL THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE HIM WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
HEARD NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT UNDER LOW RPM RANGE. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL NISSAN DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF PROBLEM AND MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE BUT WAS ADVISED BY SHOP MECHANIC ABOUT WORN DRIVE BELT. VEHICLE IS @ 34,000 MILES. UPON INVESTIGATION AT HOME FROM TOP OF ENGINE BAY, I NOTICED AC/ALTERNATOR IDLER PULLEY WAS VIBRATING AND ROTATING OF AXIS TO THE CRACK PULLEY. I INVESTIGATED ONLINE AT WWW.NISSANMURANO.ORG FOR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I FOUND A SERIES OF REPORTS THAT THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE IDLE PULLEY WAS BROKEN AND CAUSES CUTTING INTO THE ADJUSTMENT ARM AND CAUSING THE NOISE (EVENTUALLY FAILING). RETURNED VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND INFORMED DEALER OF IDLER PULLEY PROBLEM RESEARCHED ONLINE AND REQUEST BELT SERVICE. WHEN MECHANIC REMOVED THE BELT, THE IDLER PULLEY ASSEMBLY WAS FOUND TO BE BROKEN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN ISSUE AND NISSAN SHOULD PROVIDE A BETTER DESIGN AND RECALL A $16 PART. POTENTIAL ISSUES OF FAILURE OF PULLEY: 1) NEARBY VICINITY OF THE RADIATOR COOLANT RETURN HOSE CAN CUT BY BROKEN BRACKET AND CAN CAUSE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. 2) COULD LEAD TO AN ALTERNATOR NOT PROVIDING ENERGY TO THE CAR AND A MORE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. *TR UPDATED 01/11/08. *LJ UPDATED *JB
THE IDLER TENSION BRACKET FAILED/BROKE DUE TO UNUSUAL WEAR AND THE BELT WAS LOST 200 MILES FROM HOME! IT IS CLEAR THAT THE BRACKET WAS OVER HEAT TEMPERED BY THE MANUFACTURER! *TR
NISSAN MURANO 2003- 71,000 MILES- AWD TRANSFER CASE DEFECT $3500- ACUTE ONSET- LOUD CLUNKING NOISE WHICH INCREASES IN VOLUME WHEN SPEED INCREASES- INOPERABLE AT THIS TIME- CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS WITH NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE GRANTED- DEALER ATTRIBUTED THAT WEAR WAS CAUSED BY DRIVING ON DRY PAVEMENT WHILE IN AWD WHICH NEVER OCCURRED. SITUATION WAS SIMILAR IN NATURE WHEN MY ALTERNATOR FAILED SUDDENLY WITH NO CAUSE WHICH RESULTED IN A RECALL ONE YEAR LATER. *TR
2003 NISSAN MURANO. AFTER 1.5 HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING, STOPPED CAR AT STOP LIGHT. WHEN ACCELERATOR DEPRESSED, CAR WAS UNRESPONSIVE FOR 5 SECONDS, THEN LURCHED FORWARD. MOMENTS LATER, ACCELERATOR COULD BE DEPRESSED TO FLOOR (IN THE MIDDLE OF A TRAFFIC INTERSECTION) WITH UNRESPONSIVE RPM AND ACCELERATION. ONCE CAR SHUT OFF, CAR OPERATED FINE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR REMAINDER OF TRIP. WITHIN A WEEK, WHILE ON VACATION OUT-OF-STATE, SAME PROBLEMS OCCURS AGAIN. MURANO IS UNRESPONSIVE ONCE AUTO IS SLOWED FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS TO STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY. ABLE TO GET AUTO OFF HIGHWAY ALTHOUGH ONCE CLEAR OF THE HIGHWAY, AUTO WILL NOT ACCELERATE FROM STOP LIGHT. CAR REMAINS UNRESPONSIVE UNTIL SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED. ONCE RUNNING, CAR SEEMS TO CHUG AND LURCH AT ALL SPEEDS. MURANO WAS IMMEDIATELY SERVICED (THE FOLLOWING DAY) AT FAULKNER NISSAN IN HARRISBURG, PA WHILE ON VACATION AND DIAGNOSED WITH FAULTY TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY. REPLACED AT COST OF $1800+. ON RETURN TRIP TO HOME (NEWPORT, RI), VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE FINE UNTIL DECELERATING FOR STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. ONCE THAT OCCURS, IT EXPERIENCES COUNTLESS TRANSMISSION SURGES AND SHAKES AT ALL SPEEDS. FROM STANDSTILL, CAR IS UNRESPONSIVE AND OFTEN STUTTERS AND SHAKES. ON RETURN TO HOME DEALERSHIP (JUST ONE WEEK AFTER FIRST SERVICE), DEALER (BARRY NISSAN, NEWPORT, RI), REPLACES TRANSMISSION CONTROL UNIT ($1300+) YET STILL IS UNSURE IF THAT IS THE FIX. NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS YET TO RETURN MY CALL DESPITE MY INITIAL COMPLAINT AND MULTIPLE EFFORTS TO CONTACT THEM AGAIN. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER. THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5-10 SECONDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN, WITHOUT EVEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT A VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 65,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS HE EXPERIENCED HESITATION WHICH AS A CONSEQUENCE HINDERS ACCELERATION. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS IN WHICH TECHNICIANS REPEATEDLY ADVISED HIM THAT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. EVENTUALLY, A DEALERSHIP STATED THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE VALVE BODY IN THE TRANSMISSION AT AN EXPENSE OF $1800.00 BECAUSE HIS VEHICLE EXCEEDED ITS WARRANTY. HE HAS NOT HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
THE RELAY THAT UNLOCKS THE GAS DOOR FAILS AND YOU CAN NOT OPEN THE GAS DOOR TO REFILL THE CAR WITH GAS. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT FOR '03 AND '04 AND STILL NISSAN WILL NOT COVER THE COST FOR REPAIR. *JB
A FEW DAYS AGO; DURING NORMAL DRIVING AND TURNING RIGHT ON A STREET NEAR MY HOUSE THE DRIVER SEAT SWIM LEFT PUSHING MY BODY AGAIN THE WINDOW AND AT THE SAME TIME LOSING CONTROL. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IF A CAR WAS LOCATE AT THE OTHER SIDE COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVE IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER WANTS OVER 500.00 FOR REPLACING THE ENTIRE DRIVER SEAT TRACK. CLOSE INSPECTION SHOW THAT A METAL BAR RUNNING FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT THE READ LOCATION BROKE ON THE LEFT SITE; THIS BAR IS THE ONLY THINK PREVENTING THE SEAT FROM MOVING LEFT OR RIGHT; IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS BAR IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH; THE METAL WAS ALSO TWISTED. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS; PEOPLE LIVE ARE AT RISK. *JB
I NOTICED THE RPM REV UNCONTROLLABLY BETWEEN 2 AND 3K WHILE DRIVING AND DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AS NO LIGHTS HAD COME ON WITH THE VEHICLE. I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT ON HOT DAYS AND DAYS WHEN I WAS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE WOULD RESPOND EXTREMELY SLOW AND THEN 10-15 SECONDS LATER WOULD REV UP ALMOST TO 4K RPM ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I ENSURE THAT THE MAINTENANCE IS BEING COMPLETED, BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF ROUTINE SERVICES. WHEN I PURCHASED THIS NISSAN MURANO, I HAD NO IDEA IT WOULD GIVE ME SO MANY HEADACHES. I HAVE BEEN TO THE NISSAN DEALERS FOR UNSCHEDULED WARRANTY REPAIR AT LEAST 5 TIMES A YEAR, SINCE I PURCHASED IT. SOME OF THE ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH THE SUV ARE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNING ON, UNEXPLAINED VEHICLE VIBRATIONS WHEN DRIVING, CAR SEIZING IN THE MIDDLE OF ROAD, BAD BRAKES, ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE EXCHANGED, BATTERY WENT BAD, AND MY TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT FALL INTO GEAR. I CALLED THE NISSAN CONSUMER TOLL FREE NUMBER AND THE NISSAN CORPORATION IS ASKING ME TO CONSOLIDATE THE RECORDS OF EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN REPAIRED ON THE CAR, AND FAX IT TO THEM. IT SEEMS THAT CONVENIENTLY ENOUGH, NISSAN DOES NOT HAVE RECORDS OF ANY MAINTENANCE THAT WAS PERFORMED AT AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALERS. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS INFORMATION HAD TO BE FAXED FIRST, BEFORE A DECISION CAN BE MADE. THE TRANSMISSION HAS HAD PREVIOUS DIFFICULTIES COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY AND HAD CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION WHEN THE CURRENT INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE ONLY DECISION I WOULD LIKE TO RECEIVE, AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IS, IF THE NISSAN CORPORATION IS GOING TO GRANT MY REQUEST TO FIX MY TRANSMISSION AT NO COST. *JB
ON MONDAY, 11/13/06 I TOOK MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO IN FOR WINTERIZING & TO HAVE THEM CHECK OUT A HUMMING NOISE TO THE NISSAN DEALER. LATER THAT DAY I WAS CALLED AND TOLD THE NOISE WAS RELATED TO THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST, OVER $4000 TO REPAIR. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 89,000 MILES. DECIDED TO GET A SECOND OPINION AND HAD THE VEHICLE MOVED TO ANOTHER NISSAN DEALER. THIS NISSAN DEALER HAS REPAIRED ANOTHER MURANO WITH THE SAME SITUATION AND SO WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THAT IT IS NOT THE TRANSFER CASE, BUT IT IS THE TRANSMISSION. UNFORTUNATELY THE COST IS EVEN MORE - OVER $6000. BEING I DID NOT PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THE "WHY" FOR THE FAILURE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT EITHER THE TRANSFER CASE OR TRANSMISSION WERE FAILING WHEN THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN. I CALLED MY SALESPERSON ABOUT THE SITUATION AND HE INFORMED ME HE HAD A FRIEND THAT HAD HIS TRANSFER CASE FAIL AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME MILES. IN MY OPINION, MAJOR COMPONENTS - TRANSMISSIONS OR TRANSFER CASES SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT THIS MILEAGE AND WOULD LIKE FOR SOMEONE TO PURSUE TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A RECALL SITUATION.*JB
