I WAS PARKED AT WORK AND WAS GETTING OUT OF MY CAR WHEN THERE WAS A LOUD POP NOISE. AT THAT TIME THE DRIVERS SEAT DROPPED ON THE BACK LEFT CORNER. MY FRIEND WAS PARKING BESIDE AND ASKED WHAT THE NOISE WAS. WHEN YOU SAT IN THE SEAT IT DROPPED BACKWARDS TO THE LEFT. I CALLED AND MADE A APPOINTMENT WITH LAKE NISSAN-LEESBURG FLORIDA. DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WAS VERY SCARY BECAUSE EVERYTIME YOU HIT A BUMP IT THROUGH YOU BACKWARDS. I FELT IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY SAID THE WHOLE RACK ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED $689.95 AND OF COURSE I HAD NO WARRANTY LEFT (2003 MODEL) THEY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAD CONTACTED OTHER NISSAN DEALERS AND THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A ISSUE AND THAT THIS SAME THING HAD HAPPENED BEFORE TO OTHER MURANOS. IF I HAD OF BEEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE I KNOW THAT I WOULD HAVE WRECKED OR CAUSED SOMEONE ELSE TO WRECK. LUCKILY I WAS PARKED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE SEAT IN MY MURANO BROKE LOOSE AS I WAS HEADED INTO A CURVE. THE SEAT ACTUALLY THREW ME INTO THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND CAUSED ME TO JERK THE WHEEL AND RUN OFF OF THE ROAD. UPON THOROUGH EXAMINATION BY MY SELF AND AN AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALERSHIP, A BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SEAT SECURE TO THE TRACK SYSTEM HAD BROKEN. THE MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS A DEFECT AND THAT HE HAD NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT BEFORE. THIS PARTICULAR SUPPORT BRACKET IS A CRITICAL PIECE OF THE SEAT ASSEMBLY AND WITHOUT THIS PIECE THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO SAFELY DRIVE AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, THE PIECE IS MOST LIKELY TO BREAK UNDER TENSION SUCH AS ENTERING A CURVE AS WAS THE SITUATION IN MY CASE, OR SWERVING TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. IN EITHER EVENT, THE UNEXPECTED MALFUNCTION COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MORE TROUBLING IS THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE PIECE WOULD BREAK IN A COLLISION, THEREBY THROWING THE DRIVER INTO THE DRIVER DOOR AND THE DRIVER'S HEAD INTO THE GLASS. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH NISSAN AND THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ABOUT THE PART ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THEIR STANCE IS THAT THOUGH THE PART IS DEFECTIVE, THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THAT THEY WILL NEITHER REPAIR MY VEHICLE NOR ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH A RECALL TO AVOID ANY FUTURE ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES. I EVEN OFFERED TO SEND NISSAN PICTURES OF THE BROKEN PART AND THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED. THE REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO LOG IN THE CORRECT PART WHEN I SPOKE WITH HIM. HE LOGGED IT AS A BROKEN SEAT TRACK. WHEN I ADVISED HIM THAT IT WAS NOT THE SEAT TRACK BUT THE ACTUAL SEAT, HE DISMISSED IT BY SAYING THAT WAS THE CATEGORY THAT NISSAN HAD ESTABLISHED FOR SEAT MALFUNCTIONS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON DRY ASPHALT ROADS, THE VEHICLE STALLED COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE IT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS PRIOR THE STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER, HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL# 03V455000, PERTAINING TO THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
03 NISSAN MURANO---TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND CAR ONLY HAS 46,000 MILES. IT IS IN THE SHOP BEING REPAIRED BUT IT WILL TAKE UP 2 TWO WEEKS SINCE TRANSMISSION IS COMING FROM CALIFORNIA. THIS IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS HAPPENING TO TOO MANY MURANO'S AT LOW MILEAGE. NISSAN MUST LOOK INTO THIS AND DO SOMETHING SOON. I DID NOT GET HURT SINCE I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER WITH THE HELP OF A TRACTOR TRAILER STOPPING TRAFFIC. SOMEONE ELSE MAY NOT BE AS LUCKY. PLEASE DO SOMETHING NOW!!!! *JB
MY NISSAN MURANO 2003 HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM 3 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I WAS ON A HILL IN SAN FRANCISCO AND CAME TO A STOP SIGN. ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR; INSTEAD IT STARTED ROLLING BACKWARD. IT WAS VERY SCARY. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND THE CAR RESPONDED FINE. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A FLUKE. THEN 5 MONTHS LATER, I WAS IN A STOP AND OF TRAFFIC ON I80 ON MY WAY TO LAKE TAHOE. THE CAR REFUSE TO MOVE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN. I STARTED PRESSING HARDER AND IT LURCHED FORWARD. IT DID THAT OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN THE STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I FINALLY PULLED OVER AND CUT OFF THE ENGINE AND STARTED BACK UP; THE CAR RESPONDED FINE THEREAFTER. HOWEVER, IT KEPT REPEATING THE SAME PROBLEM; EACH TIME I WILL RESOLVE IT BY RESTARTING THE CAR. LUCKILY, IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WAS REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME. THE CAR PERFORMED WITHOUT FURTHER PROBLEM UNTIL 2006. THE PROBLEM REARED ITS UGLY HEAD. I TOOK IT BACK IN AND THEY SAID IT WAS A BAD BATTERY. SO WE HAD THAT CHANGED, BUT THE PROBLEM CAME BACK. THE MECHANIC RESET THE CAR COMPUTER AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY. AGAIN, IT DIDN'T REALLY COST ME MUCH OTHER THAN THE BATTERY. THEN IN 2009, THE CAR AGAIN STARTED DOING THE LURCHING THING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. IT'S ALWAYS IN THE SAME SITUATION. I KNEW I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY THEN AND IT WOULD COST ME AN ARM AND A LEG SO I JUST DEALT WITH IT BY RESTARTING THE CAR EACH TIME AND PRAY THE TRAFFIC WILL MOVE FASTER SOON. IT'S NOW 2011 AND THE PROBLEM REMAINS. AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS FROM PAST NISSAN MURANO OWNERS, I REALLY THINK NISSAN OWES US SOME MONEY. IT SHOULD'VE BEEN A RECALL SINCE MOST OF US PAID $35K+ FOR THIS CAR. MY CAR NOW HAS 145K MILES. I AM IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW CAR. I LIKE THE CVT. MAYBE WILL TRY A SUBARU INSTEAD. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY LOCKED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE CONTACT MANAGED TO UNLOCK THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 10/20/2006 - THE DEALER'S TECH DETERMINED IT WAS A FAULTY SEAT BELT RELEASE BELT TONGUE. *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE YEARS LATER AND THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
I HAVE HAD MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2003, JUST AFTER MY WARRANTY RAN OUT THE PASSENGER SUN VISOR STARTED TO FALL AND WILL NOT STAY UP. BECAUSE I AM A TALL MAN IT ACTUALLY BLOCKS MORE THAN 50% OF MY VIEW AND I AM AFRAID THAT ONE DAY IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF FIELD OF VIEW. I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY BIG ISSUE WITH THE NISSAN MURANOS AND QUEST. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY CONCERN AS IN MOST STATES THE FIELD OF VISION IS A PART OF THE SAFETY INSPECTION THIS SERIOUSLY DECREASES IT AND IMPAIRS THE ABILITY TO FORESEE DANGERS. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS ALL WHEEL DRIVE. WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR NORMAL MAINTENANCE I WAS ADVISED THE TRANSFER CASE WAS LOCKED IN ALL WHEEL DRIVE. THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHT TO ADVISE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY MILES THE CAR WAS DRIVEN IN THIS CONDITION. IT SO HAPPENS THAT I HAD RECENTLY PASSED MY WARRANTY PERIOD AND HAD TO PAY A VERY LARGE AMOUNT TO REPAIR IT. IF A WARNING LIGHT HAD GONE ON I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR THIS SOONER UNDER WARRANTY. PLUS, I HAD RECENTLY RETURNED FROM A LONG TWO WEEK DRIVE IN HOT DESERT COUNTRY. I WOULD IMAGINE IT WAS NOT WISE OR SAFE TO BE IN ALL WHEEL DRIVE UNDER HOT ROAD DRIVING CONDITIONS. I ASKED THE MANUFACTURER TO INFORM ME HOW OFTEN THEIR VEHICLES HAVE THIS PROBLEM BUT I HAD NO RESPONSE FROM THEM. I DID ASK MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME AT LEAST ONE OTHER VEHICLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM LOCALLY. *JB
BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. SIGNS OF ALTERNATOR FAILURE. *NM
2003 NISSAN MURANO, AT 2500 MILES TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SKIP OR DISENGAGE FOR A SECOND AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE PROBLEM. AT 12000 MILES VEHICLE STARTED TO ACT UP AND SAME THING HAPPEN, THIS TIME VEHICLE SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN NEUTRAL GEAR. VEHICLE RECALLED FOR ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT, SAME WEEK AND I INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE ISSUE, THEY SEEMED NOT TOO CONCERNED. AT 35000 MILES WHEN DRIVING IN REVERSE, TRANSMISSION CLINK NOISE. AT 58000 TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WITH A COMPLAINT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS ACTING UP. DEALER INSTALLED A GAS TANK SHIED, AND DID NOT CARE TO INVESTIGATE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND SAID ALL ARE OK. 64000 MILES, AFTER STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD, ACCELERATION PEDAL PUSHED ALL THE WAY. VEHICLE WILL THEN SUDDENLY PICKUP SPEED AND LUNG FORWARD. VEHICLE RPM WILL KICK UP AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING AT STEADY AND CRUISING SPEEDS GIVING THE VEHICLE A FEELING OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. SITUATION IS GETTING WORSE AND NO HELP FROM DEALER SINCE HE RECENTLY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. *NM
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ALTERNATOR FOR MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO, THIS RESULTED IN A TESTED FAILURE WITH MY BATTERY, ONCE TESTED WITH THE NISSAN REGISTERED BATTERY TESTER HOWEVER THERE WAS THEN NO PERCEIVED PROBLEM. AFTER REQUESTING THAT IT BE REPLACED FOR MY SAFETY THEY REFUSED AND I CONTACTED NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE. AFTER 8 WEEKS I STILL HAD NOT BEEN IN CONTACT WITH A REGIONAL SPECIALIST AND YESTERDAY MY BATTERY DIED ON ME. FORTUNATELY THIS WAS WITHIN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT AT MY WORK. I AM CURRENTLY 8 WEEKS PREGNANT AND WENT THROUGH A LOT OF STRESS AND EXERTION AT A VERY DANGEROUS TIME IN ORDER TO HAVE THE CAR SAFELY TOWED TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP. MY CONCERN IS THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED ANYWHERE AND WOULD HAVE LEFT ME UNSAFELY ABANDONED. *JB
TO DATE, WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH OUR 2003 MURANO. WE HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY, MOTOR MOUNT, BATTERY, TCM AND TRANSMISSION. ON JULY 21, 2006 OUR MURANO MADE A LOUD NOISE THEN QUIT MOVING. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY STATED IT NEEDED A NEW TCM. THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM SO THEY SAID WE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. WE HAD 64,000 MILES. SINCE THEN WE HAD THE CAR FOR ONE DAY AND TOOK IT BACK FOR YET A NEW PROBLEM WITH THE REAR AXLE. *NM
2003 NISSAN MURANO DRIVERS SIDE VISOR FAILURE. THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR WILL DROP SUDDENLY WHENEVER THE CARS RUNS THROUGH ROUGH TERRAIN OR A SPEED BUMP. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT BLOCKS THE DRIVERS VISION. THIS ONLY HAPPENS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR. THERE IS A LONG LIST OF FAILURES WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT NISSAN DOES NOT WANT TO DO A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE FUEL BEGAN LEAKING FROM A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED. THIS REPAIR OCCURRED IN JUNE OF 2003. IN 2006, A RECALL LETTER #06V003000 WAS RECEIVED FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY. IN JUNE OF 2006, A LETTER FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER. A CASE #5357874 WAS PROVIDED BUT NO REIMBURSEMENT CHECK WAS RECEIVED.
I WAS TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN ALONE WITH MY 3 CHILDREN AND AFTER WE HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 3 1/2 HOURS, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON BY THEMSELVES ALONG WITH THE BACK WINDSHIELD WIPERS, THE LIGHTS WERE GOING ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES, THE LEFT BLINKER CAME ON BY ITSELF, AND THE DASH INFORMATION (DTE,FUEL ECONOMY) WAS JUST COMING ON AND OFF BY ITSELF. THERE WAS WATER COMING OUT OF THE FUSE BOX ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, AND YOU COULD HEAR A SIZZLING SOUND. I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALER, THEY SAID THEY FIX IT AND I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN 2 HOURS LATER SAME STUFF. I JUST TURNED OFF THE AC AND KEPT DRIVING WITH EVERYTHING GOING CRAZY, BECAUSE ALL THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WERE CLOSED AND I COULD NOT GET ANYONE TO HELP ME. WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID THAT THE AC HOSE WAS LOOSE AND WAS ALLOWING WATER TO GET INTO EVERYTHING. I HOPE IT IS FIXED, BUT I AM NOW SCARED TO DRIVE IT ANYWHERE AND I HAVE TO TRAVEL 6 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME EVERY NOW AND THEN BECAUSE I HAVE A CHILD 6 HOURS AWAY FROM HOME IN COLLEGE AND YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN I WILL HAVE TO GO UP THERE UNEXPECTEDLY. I AM THING ABOUT TRADING IT OFF BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN IT ANYMORE, BUT THE TRADE IN VALUE IS A LOT LESS THAN THE PAY OFF. *JB
I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE ON SEPT 9, 2005 WITH 28,158 MILES FROM CHECKERED FLAG AUTO DEALER FOR MY WIFE. I STARTED HAVING ISSUES IN JUNE 2006 AROUND 38K MILES. MY WIFE WAS STOP AT A RED LIGHT ON INTERSTATE 264 EXIT RAMP ON HER WAY HOME FROM WORK. ACCORDING TO MY WIFE, THE RED LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE MURANO HESITATE ON ACCELERATION THEN STARTED ACCELERATING SLOWLY. AFTER ABOUT 3 FEET FROM THE LIGHT THE MURANO STARTED JERKING, RPM WAS RAVING HIGH BUT THE CAR WASN'T MOVING THEN PROMPTLY SPEED UP AND SHUTOFF IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC, SHE TRIED RESTARTING THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE MURANO WAS TOWED HOME AND THE FOLLOWING DAY I BROUGHT IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR THE TECH SAID MY RUBBER INTAKE VIBRATED OFF AND CHARGED ME TO PUT IT BACK ON. (NOW THERE'S A RECALL FOR THAT, I WONDER IF IT'S TOO LATE TO GET A REFUND. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V169000) A BAD POSITION CAMSHAFT SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AT THE TIME BUT WHEN I DID, REPLACING THE SENSORS DID NOT FIX THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE MURANO IS STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER 6 YEARS. I STILL OWE $11K AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS NIGHTMARE. THIS WAS THE WORST FINANCIAL DECISION I EVER MADE FOR MY FAMILY. IT KILLS (IT MIGHT REALLY KILL ME IN TRAFFIC) ME TO KNOW MY WIFE AND DAUGHTERS DO NOT HAVE A DEPENDABLE MEANS OF GETTING TO DAYCARE AND WORK WHILE I AM DEPLOYED PROTECTION MY COUNTRY. I CONTACTED NISSAN MANY TIME AND IN A NUTSHELL I WAS TOLD TOO BAD, I SHOULD CALL BACK WHEN I WANT TO PURCHASE A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD. AFTER THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOWLY MOVE, IT WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE VALVE BODY OF THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED. UPDATED 08/24/06. *JB
I OWNED A 2003 NISSAN MURANO FOR LESS THAN 11 MONTHS BEFORE I WAS FORCED TO TRADE IT IN. DURING THE FIRST 7 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP I HAD NOTHING BUT A GREAT EXPERIENCE WITH THIS VEHICLE. WITHIN THE 8TH - 11TH MONTHS HOWEVER I BEGAN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION WAS BURNING UP AND SLIPPING. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER NISSAN DEALER AND ALLOWED THEM TO DO A DIAGNOSIS. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION ONLY HAD A SHORT AMOUNT OF LIFE LEFT AND THAT IT WOULD COST $5,000+ TO HAVE IT SHIPPED TO JAPAN AND REPLACED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE FLUID INSTALLED IN THE TRANSMISSION WAS ATF AND NOT THE $25/QUART CVT FLUID. I BELIEVED THIS AND HAVE BEEN TELLING THIS STORY FOR YEARS. I LEARNED TODAY THAT THIS WAS NONSENSE. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER AND ONLY HAD THE CAR SERVICED BY NISSAN. WHERE WOULD THE FLUID GET INTO MY RIDE IN THAT CASE? I BOUGHT A WARRANTY ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEALERS REPRESENTATIVE WHO INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD WANT COVERAGE FOR THE TRANSMISSION IN HOPES OF AVOIDING THE $5,000.00 TAG FOR REPLACEMENT. HE WAS A PROPHET BECAUSE I ENDED UP NEEDING A NEW TRANSMISSION LESS THAN 11 MONTHS LATER, BUT MY WARRANTY REFUSED TO COVER THE COST CITING THE FAILURE TO SERVICE THE TRANSMISSION AT 60K THOUGH IT WAS SERVICED AT 61K. I TRADED THIS VEHICLE IN WITH LESS THAN 70K ON THE ODOMETER. IN A YEAR WHEN I SHOULD HAVE NO CAR PAYMENT, I MUST ACCEPT ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF CAR PAYMENTS. WHAT A SHAME, WHAT A WASTE. HOW MUCH I MISS MY RIDE, BUT WHAT WOULD IT HAVE BEEN WORTH TO ME TO KEEP IT WITHOUT KNOWING THE SAME THING WOULDN'T CONTINUE?!?!!?!? IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN ON 5/22/06 AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN WATER UP TO THE WHEELS. THE TECH DETERMINED THAT WATER GOT IN THE FLOOR BOARD AREA AND CAUSED CORROSION OF IN THE AIR BAG HARNESS. *NM
2003 NISSAN MURANO AWD WOULD ACCELERATE AND SKIP GEARS. IF YOU ARE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS THE CAR WILL LUNGE FORWARD AND TRY TO GO INTO A HIGHER GEAR THEN FIRST. THIS STARTED HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY THEN IT HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE DAY THE FRIDAY BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY 2006. ON SATURDAY WHEN WE STARTED THE CAR IT MADE A HORRIBLE CLUNKING NOISE. WE DROVE THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND SEVERAL DAYS LATER WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD NEED A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4000. THE CAR HAS 78,000 MILES AND IS 32 MONTHS OLD. ALL THE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES. WE DO NOT HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE WE HAVE ALWAYS OWNED NISSAN CARS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. I HAVE CONDUCTED RESEARCH AND FOUND SEVERAL CONSUMERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AT VARIOUS LIFE CYCLES OF THE VEHICLE. SOME HAD PROBLEMS WITH IN THE FIRST THOUSAND MILES. IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THE PROBLEMS ARE CAUSED BY THE NEW CVT TECHNOLOGY THAT NISSAN FIRST INTRODUCED IN THE NISSAN MURANO IN 2003. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *NM

2003 MURANO WAS STOPPED. DRIVER HAD FOOT ON BRAKE. VEHICLE WAS STRUCK IN REAR. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE ROLLED THROUGH INTERSECTION. HAD TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL TWICE BEFORE BRAKES WOULD HOLD AGAIN. EVER SINCE, VEHICLE LABORS AS IF PULLING A HEAVY LOAD OR AS IF PARKING BRAKE WAS PARTIALLY ENGAGED. NISSAN DEALER STATES THAT BRAKES SEEM TO WORK, THEREFORE THEY WILL NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND CAUSE OF PEDAL-TO-THE FLOOR INCIDENT OR CAUSE OF VEHICLE "LABORING". *JB
AFTER DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THEN STUCK IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC, CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE. HAS HAPPENED 5 TIMES, AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT TAKES AT LEAST 10 SECONDS FOR THE CAR THE ACCELERATE. AFTER DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC (ENGINE COMPARTMENT VERY HOT) CAR DOES NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUT. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENTLY PROBLEM. WHEN YOU DEPRESS THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND OR IS VERY DELAYED, AND THEN A COUPLE OF SECONDS LATER IT TRIES TO CATCH UP AND THE ENGINE SURGES TO HIGH RPM. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING OUT IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC DUE TO THE LACK OF THROTTLE RESPONSE. IT IS ALSO VERY DANGEROUS IF THERE'S A PERSON OR OBJECT IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND IT SURGES AND TAKES OFF VERY FAST. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHILE IT WAS ACTING UP AND THERE WEREN'T ANY CODES IN THE ECU, BUT THE MECHANIC PUT IT ON A METER AND READ THE VOLTAGES OF THE PEDAL VS. THROTTLE BODY AND DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT RESPONDING CORRECTLY AND IT WAS THE FAULTY COMPONENT. HE ALSO ADMITTED THAT THEY'VE HAD A LOT OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THOSE THROTTLE BODIES BUT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THE PART. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *NM

AFTER I LOCK UP MY NISSAN MURANO I WILL COME TO IT FROM A MOVIE THEATER OF FROM MY HOME TO DRIVE IT AND BOTH OF THE FRONT WINDOWS WILL BE COMPLETELY DOWN AND THE VEHICLE WILL BE UNSECURED. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC I PRESSED ON THE GAS AND MY MURANO MOVED SLOWLY, THEN PICKED UP SPEED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, 57,898 MILES, BUT THEY SAID THE COMPUTER ONLY NEEDED TO BE RESET. THEY DID NOT DOCUMENT THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL AROUND 66,000 MILES. I TOOK IT BACK THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN AT AROUND 68,000 BUT MORE AND MORE DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND NOW THEY SAY I NEED A VALVE BODY AND MORE THAN LIKELY A NEW TRANSMISSION AT $6000. NISSAN BUT OUT A SERVICE BULLETIN TELLING THE REPAIR SHOPS TO LOOK FOR THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY KNOW ITS A PROBLEM. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY SAID ITS MY PROBLEM. THEY WON'T FIX IT NOR WILL THEY HELP TO FIX IT. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM IF YOU NEED THE POWER AND SUDDENLY YOU DON'T HAVE IT. *JB

INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION DELAY OF 3-5 SECONDS FROM A STOP. ONCE THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED AND NOTHING HAPPENS AFTER THE DELAY COMES A SURGE OF SPEED. NO CODES ARE THROWN AND DEALER CANNOT RECREATE PROBLEM. SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING LEFT OR AT AN INTERSECTION! THIS HAS HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE I GOT THE CAR AT 30000 MILES. OVERALL THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN VERY GOOD. AT APPROXIMATELY 65,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DAY BEFORE IT FAILED I HEARD A NOISE BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM. ON THE DAY IT FAILED THE NOISE SEEMED NOT TO BE PRESENT. I EXITED A HIGHWAY AFTER A 1 1/2 DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION MADE A BUMP SOUND THAT MADE THE CAR SHAKE FOR AN INSTANT. THEN, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED NOT TO ENGAGE. THE CAR APPEARED TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. I TRAVELED FOR A FEW MILES TO A SMALL TOWN. AFTER BEING PARKED FOR A FEW MINUTES THE TRANSMISSION AGAIN ENGAGED. I CALLED THE DEALER, AND HE SAID TO GET VEHICLE TO THEM , AND THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK. A FEW TIMES ALONG THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED. I WAS INFORMED THE FOLLOWING DAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $5,000. NISSAN REFUSED TO HELP IN ANYWAY. THEY WERE SIMPLY TURNING THEIR BACK ON ME BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 60,000 MILES. I REQUESTED ANY CONTRIBUTION FOR REPAIRS AND THEY REFUSED. IT WAS A VERY SAD CORPORATE POLICY.*AK
ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY CAR HAS STARTED TO ACCELERATE WHEN I AM SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. (THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER THE 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THE CAR WITH SEVERAL MONTHS LAPSING BETWEEN INCIDENTS) EACH TIME WHEN I FELT IT BEGIN TO SURGE, I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL WHILE HOLDING THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN TIGHTLY, WAITING FOR THE ENGINE RACING TO STOP. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND IT WORKED NORMALLY. THE DEALER FOUND NO CODES RECORDED WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN, SO NOTHING COULD BE DONE. IN JANUARY OF '06 I WAS DROPPING MAIL FROM MY CAR INTO A MAIL DROP. MY CAR REVVED UP BETWEEN 4000 AND 6000 RPM'S. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND TRIED PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL WITH NO EFFECT ON STOPPING THE ACCELERATION. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK & SHUT IT OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT WAS STILL RACING. I HAD TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN 5 TIMES BEFORE THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY. I DROVE IT 2 BLOCKS TO MY HOME AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. ON JAN. 4,2006 THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, CHAMBER AS., GASKET THR. WERE CHANGED. THEY PERFORMED AN UPPER ENGINE DECARB. PROCEDURE, CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY, AND INSTALLED FUEL ADDITIVE. ON JAN. 20, 2006 I BROUGHT MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING AS I WAS PUSHING DOWN ON THE BRAKE. DEALER FOUND NO CODES REGISTERED ON THE CAR'S COMPUTERS, NOR COULD THEY REPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHEN THEY DROVE THE CAR.
APPARENTLY A SMALL PIECE OF METAL IN THE FREEWAY WAS PICKED UP BY THE FRONT TIRES AND PUNCTURED THE FUEL TANK ON THE NISSAN MURANO. UNKNOWN BY THE DRIVER, ALL OF THE FUEL LEAKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHILE BEING DRIVEN. ALTHOUGH THE RECALL NOTICE HAS BEEN EXTENDED, NISSAN REFUSES TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TANK. NISSAN'S STAND IS THAT THE "SHIELD" THAT IS THE "FIX" TO THE PUNCTURE PROBLEM WOULD NOT HAVE PREVENTED THE TANK IN OUR CAR FROM BEING PUNCTURED BECAUSE IT PROTECTS THE FRONT HALF OF THE TANK AND OUR PUNCTURE WAS ON THE BACK HALF OF THE TANK. NHTSA SHOULD TAKE NOTE AS IT APPEARS THAT THE SHIELD IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AS THE ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM IF ITEMS PICKED UP BY THE FRONT TIRES CAN STILL ALLOW A PUNCTURE TO REAR OF THE TANK. *JB

THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR ALTERNATORS ON NISSAN MURANO'S (2003 - ?). IN THE EVENT THE ALTERNATOR HAS FAILED, THE BATTERY MAY NOT BE FAR BEHIND. IN MY CASE THE DEALER REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR AS REQUIRED BY THE RECALL, BUT DID NOT CHECK THE BATTERY. THE BATTERY FAILED A DAY LATER RESULTING IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION. *JB

2003 MURANO CUT OFF COMPLETELY CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO REPLACE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. *TS WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS VACATIONING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONSUMER'S HOTEL WHERE AAA CHECK THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR. AAA DETERMINED THAT THEY BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT WAS ONLY ABLE TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED AT A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED HOME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER OF A RECALL 05V319000 ON THE 2003 MURANO FOR THE ALTERNATOR. THE CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *NM

WHEN SHE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD HER THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL, BUT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THEY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO A RELAY SENSOR. *AK
