WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE GAS THE CAR DOES NOT GO FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN WHEN IT GOES IT LUNGES FORWARD. THIS MAKES IT VERY HARD TO MAKE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC, YOU DO NOT KNOW IF THE CAR IS GOING TO MOVE AT FIRST OR NOT. AND WHEN YOU ARE IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AND GO TO MOVE UP JUST A LITTLE BIT THE CAR DOES NOT GO THEN WHEN IT DOES YOU ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THIS IS THE CVT VAVLE BODY. MY CAR IS GIVING ERROR CODE P1722 PER THE DEALER. THE PAPERWORK THEY GAVE ME SAYS ESTEM SPD. SIG. *TR
I WAS IN STOP/GO TRAFFIC DURING RUSH HOUR. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, NOTHING HAPPENED. I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR 3 OR 4 TIMES AND SUDDENLY THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND THEN STARTED MOVING. THE NEXT TIME I CAME TO A STOP, I HAD TO REPEAT THE PUMPING OF THE GAS PEDAL TO MOVE AGAIN. I DID THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND EACH TIME THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD. WHEN I COULD SAFELY PULL OVER, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. I CAN GO SEVERAL MONTHS WITH EVERYTHING BEING FINE AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO A DEALER BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING TO INDICATE WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AND SINCE EVERYTHING IS FINE AFTER THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THEN STARTED AGAIN, HOW DO I RECREATE THE ISSUE FOR A MECHANIC? THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN AND THE LURCHING FORWARD HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON VARIOUS BLOGS AND ON THIS WEBSITE. IN THE QUALIFIER ABOVE IT ASKS IF THERE HAS BEEN A CRASH, FIRE OR FATALITY. PLEASE TELL ME WHY ONE OF THESE HORRIFIC THINGS HAS TO HAPPEN BEFORE THERE IS A RECALL ON A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE WITH A VEHICLE? A CAR NOT ACCELERATING IN TRAFFIC AND THEN SUDDENLY LURCHING FORWARD SHOULD NOT BE THE OWNER'S RESPONSIBILITY OR COST TO REPAIR. IT SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY AND COST OF THE MANUFACTURER TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE SELLING A SAFE VEHICLE. *TR
PULLED OFF INTERSTATE BECAUSE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT ACTING CORRECTLY. WHEN I PULLED OF THE INTERSTATE AT THE STOP SIGN, I TRIED TO APPLY THE ACCELERATOR AND CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I WAS ALMOST HIT IN THE REAR. FINALLY ABLE TO GET CAR TO PARKING LOT. HAD CAR TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER FOR REPAIR. WAITING ON CALL FOR COST OF REPAIRS. *TR
DRIVER SEAT FRAME BROKEN AND STARTED ROCKING BACK AND FORTH REAR DRIVER SIDE TO FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. SEAT FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT PROBLEM. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT: WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT CAR SHUT OFF ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH LIT UP. SINCE NO POWER TO CAR I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OR USE MY BRAKES EFFECTIVELY. I WAS STOPPED IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. I WAS ABLE TO USE MY FOUR WAY LIGHTS. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AS WE WERE UNABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. SECOND INCIDENT: WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT 35 MILES AN HOUR ONCE AGAIN CAR TURNED OFF AND I WAS UNABLE TO USE GAS OR BRAKES RELATED TO NO POWER. I BARELY WAS ABLE TO GET ABOUT HALFWAY INTO THE TURN LANE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS TE I WAS ABLE TO WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND AFTER A FEW UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO START MY CAR IT FINALLY BEGAN RUNNING AGAIN. *TR
MY MURANO WAS ATTEMPTING TO STALL OUT SEVERAL TIMES WHILE I WAS DRIVING, ESPECIALLY AFTER TAKING OFF....WHEN IT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME, BEFORE I GOT THE REPAIRS, IT JUST SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS GETTING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT FRAME FRACTURED FROM THE RIGHT SIDE, PUSHING THE DRIVER TOWARD THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 116,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR FREEWAY I BEGAN TO HEAR MY CVT TRANSMISSION MAKING A LOUD WINDING NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A TURBINE ENGINE REVVING UP AND THEN MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER I NOTICED SOMETHING WAS WRONG, THE VEHICLE WENT FROM 65MPH TO 15MPH DURING EXTREMELY HEAVY HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC AND THEN I WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE WHICH BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP ON THE FREEWAY. THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY DOES A BUNNY HOP IN HEAVY STOP AND GO TRAFFIC WHICH ALMOST CAUSED ME TO REAR END ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN SURGE OF ACCELERATION. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND IS NOW BECOMING A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VECHICLE ABRUBTLY LOSS POWER IN DRIVE TRAIN WHILE ACCELERATING THROUGH BUSY CROSS SECTION. VECHICLE PROGRESSED NO MORE THAN 10 MILES WHILE PULLING OFF THE ROAD. ONCE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF, VECHICLE WOULD IGNITION DID NOT HAVE POWER, ALBEIT ALL OTHER POWER (WINDOWS, LIGHTS, ETC..) WAS OK. DEALER SAYS ABS CONTROL UNIT AND TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TT

THE CONTACT MANAGED TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY TO THE SHOULDER RAMP. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE SEAT FRAME WAS FRACTURED. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THAT THE STEEL WHEEL SEAT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NO OFFERED ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED A CASE ON THE CONTACT'S BEHALF. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

IT WAS HOT OUTSIDE. I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE THEN THE CAR LOST POWER. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC TO FIND OUT MY FUEL PUMP FUSE BLEW. SINCE THEN WITHIN A MONTH TIME MY CAR HAS LOST POWER TWICE AND ABRUPTLY STOPPED RUNNING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 55 MPH. PUTTING MYSELF AND KIDS IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES THE FIRST TIME AND A HOUR THE SECOND TIME I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL, TURNED THE KEY AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. I PURCHASED MY 2003 MURANO ONLY 4 MONTHS AGO AND NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE HERE TODAY SCARED TO DRIVE. NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE THESE COMPLAINTS MUCH MORE SERIOUSLY BEFORE SOMEONE LOSE THEIR LIFE BEHIND THIS DEFECT. *TR
SUN VISOR RANDOMLY DROPS DOWN FROM HEADLINER OBSTRUCTING DRIVER'S VIEW. NISSAN WILL NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM AT NO COST IF THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NISSAN SHOULD REPAIR THIS DEFECT REGARDLESS OF YEAR OR MILEAGE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIPS, PREVENTING CERTAIN OWNERS FROM HAVING THE VISOR PROPERLY REPLACED/REPAIRED . VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO SE. I WAS DRIVING OUT OF MY HOUSE AND WHILE STILL IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THE CAR CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT (LOUD NOISE). I WAITED A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND TRIED PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN AND THE CAR REFUSED TO MOVE BUT MADE ANOTHER VERY LOUD SOUND. I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN THAT WERE FORTUNATELY NOT IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. ALSO FORTUNATE WAS THAT I HAD NOT TURNED INTO A HIGH SPEED MAIN ROAD THAT WAS JUST COMING UP. I CALLED AAA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED IT AS A TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM AND QUOTED $3300 FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE PART. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, MY HUSBAND AND I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A STANDARD PROBLEM IN THE EARLIER NISSAN MURANO MODELS - HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ONLINE AND IT HAPPENS AT ROUGHLY THE SAME MILEAGE IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON NISSAN'S PART AS IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. WE CONTACTED NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND AFTER WAITING 10 DAYS, WE WERE BASICALLY TOLD THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT GIVEN HOW OLD THE VEHICLE WAS AND THAT THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, EVEN AFTER I EXPLAINED THE RESULTS OF MY RESEARCH. I TOLD THEM THAT EVEN IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO BELIEVE THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, A TRANSFER CASE SHOULD NOT GIVE WAY BETWEEN 80-90,000 MILES - IT IS SIMPLY NOT ACCEPTABLE. I AM EXTREMELY IRRITATED AT HOW NISSAN HANDLED THIS PROBLEM AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OTHERS WHO MAY END UP IN THE SAME SITUATION BUT NOT BE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO ESCAPE BODILY HARM. I CALLED NISSAN WITH MY VIN # AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED WITH NISSAN AT THIS POINT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW IF MY CAR IS DOING THE EXACT SAME THING AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, SAME YEAR, MAKE & MODEL, WHY THEY WOULD TAKE A CHANCE IN THE SAFETY OF ME AS WELL AS MY FAMILY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE SPEED SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

I HEARD A LOUD "POP" PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THE SEAT BEGAN TO ROCK. AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE, I LOOK UNDER THE SEAT TO TRY TO ASCERTAIN WHERE THE SOUND I HEARD ORIGINATED. IT WAS DARK OUTSIDE, SO SEEING NOTHING AMISS IT WASN'T UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING THAT DISCOVERED THAT THE SEAT WAS ROCKING AND BOUNCING 4-6 INCHES UNDER WEIGHT. I DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A BROKEN WELD UNDER THE SEAT. FROM ITS APPEARANCE, SEEMS THAT SHOULDN'T BE HARD TO FIX... (SIGHS) IF ONLY THAT WERE TRUE. I PURCHASED NISSAN FOR THE REPUTATION IT ONCE HAD, I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO FIND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND NO MOVE BY NISSAN CORP TO RECALL OR REINFORCE THESE SHODDY WELDS. I AM CURRENTLY RIDING WITH THIS SEAT PARTIALLY SUPPORTED BY ROCK BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP IS QUOTING A $4000 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE CHAIR. EVEN TRIED A SALVAGE YARD, TO NO AVAIL. PLEASE HELP! I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS CAR EVER SINCE I BOUGHT IT AT THIS SMALL DEALER IN ARLINGTON VA. SATURDAY MARCH 3, 2012, MY NISSAN MURANO STALLED. I AM AFRAID THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUES FOR ME AND OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT STALLED. THE DOOR LOCK ON THE DRIVER SIDE WENT OUT AND SHORTLY AFTER THE REST OF THE DOOR LOCKS IN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO FAIL. BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, I AM CURRENTLY AT RISK OF THEFT IF THE DOOR LOCK DO NOT COMPLETELY LOCK. I RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE OF $1600 TO FIX THE ISSUE AND I HAVE HEARD THAT'S BY OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.
THE VEHICLES DRIVE TRAIN FAILED AND WAS TOWED TO LIA NISSAN IN ENFIELD CT. WAS TOLD THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND WAS COVERED UNDER THE 10 YR /120,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS DAMAGED BUT IS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. THE TRANSFER CASE IS PART OF THE CVT AND SHOULD BE COVERED. I HAD TO PURCHASE THE PART FOR 2,100 TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THEY MAY CHARGE FOR THE PART TO OFFSET THE COST OF THE CVT WHICH COSTS AROUND 5,000. NISSAN HAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THEIR DRIVE TRAIN AND SHOULD BE COVERED OR RECALLED. *TR
VEHICLE SHUT OFF WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE THE FIRST TIME, I DID NOT THINK MUCH OF IT. TWO DAYS LAYER THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE I WAS DRIVING 50+ MILES AN HOUR. WOULD NOT CRANK BACK UP UNTIL I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL REALLY HARD AS I CRANKED IT. *TR
I SAT DOWN ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT IN MY VEHICLE AND AS I REACHED TO TURN THE IGNITION, I HEARD A "POP" AND MY DRIVER'S SEAT TO THE LOWER LEFT SIDE. AS I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO EXAMINE IT, I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT AND SAW THAT A METAL BRACKET SUPPORTING THE SEAT IN THE REAR LEFT CORNER HAD SNAPPED IN TWO PLACES. IT RESULTED IN THE SEAT LOSING ITS STABILITY AND WOBBLING BACK AND FORTH AND OBVIOUSLY BECOMING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I SEARCHED FOR RECALL INFORMATION REGARDING THIS ISSUE ONLY TO FIND THAT A RECALL WASN'T ISSUED FOR IT BUT THERE ARE MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS SAME ISSUE. LEAKING TRANSMISSION TRANSFER CASE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE TC CAN FAIL AT ANY TIME. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. NISSAN NA HAS GIVEN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON CVT TRANSMISSION, BUT THE TC IS MOST LIKELY TO FAIL DUE TO LEAKS AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED CVT WARRANTY NISSAN JUST CAME OUT WITH. MANY MANY POSTS ON INTERNET BASED ON THIS ISSUE. NNA WILL NOT CORRECT THIS DESIGN DEFECT, EVEN THOUGH IT IS PART OF THE TRANSMISSION. NNA WILL NOT HONOR THE TRANSMISSION EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE CVT TRANSMISSION, AS THEY SAY THE TC IS NOT PART OF THE TRANSMISSION. REPLACEMENT COST FOR TC IS $3500-$4000 AND IF IT'S LEAKING IT WILL FAIL. SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF VEHICLE IS MOVING, CAUSING POTENTIALLY BODILY INJURY IN A CRASH, OR BODILY INJURY WHILE ON SIDE OF HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND THEY WOULD NOT ADDRESS THIS OBVIOUS ENGINEERING DEFECT. NISSAN SHOULD BE MADE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.

IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2010 NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO COVER THE FAILED CVT TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER REPLACED IT AT NO COST TO ME (NISSAN COVERED THE PARTS AND LABOR). ON FRIDAY DECEMBER 2, 2011 WHILE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA WAS REPLACING THE LOWER OIL PAN GASKET, AND LOWER OIL COOLER HOUSING, THEY NOTICED THE TRANSFER CASE WAS STARTING TO FAIL/CRACK. INFORMED ME THAT WITHIN THE NEXT 6 TO 12 MONTHS THIS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THIS IS AN 18 HOUR JOB. COST ESTIMATE IS $2,350. THEY SHOULD HAVE INFORMED ME OF THE KNOWN TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM LAST YEAR AT A MINIMUM TO SAVE THE LABOR COST. I HAVE CALLED NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN WARNER ROBINS, GA BUT NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY RAN OUT...I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE JAN 2011, THEY HAD TO PUT IN A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION A WEEK AFTER I PURCHASED IT BUT I WAS TOLD MONTHS LATER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND THIS PARTICULAR MURANO WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL FOR CVT. AS I AM DRIVING, OUR VEHICLE WILL AUTO BRAKE, BOW UP AND LOSE ACCELERATION CAUSING TRAFFIC FOLLOWING BEHIND ME TO EITHER BRAKE OR GET INTO THE OTHER LANE TO KEEP FROM HITTING ME. THIS HAPPENS AT LOW LEVELS OF SPEED AND AT HIGH LEVELS OF SPEED. THIS WILL ALSO HAPPEN SHOULD I BE TRYING TO CROSS TRAFFIC AS WELL. I AM IN FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND KIDS AS WELL AS THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD FOR THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET STOPPED IN TIME.
