AIRBAG LIGHT FLASHING. AIRBAG MODULE DETERMINED TO BE BAD. OVER $1000 TO REPLACE. I SEE WHERE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. DEALER SAID AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IN EVENT OF CRASH.. *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. RECENTLY, THE DRIVER'S SEAT BROKE, CAUSING IT TO ROCK DURING REGULAR DRIVING AND TIP OVER WHEN GOING AROUND TURNS. NISSAN NORTH AMERICA AND THE DEALER REFUSE TO REPAIR THE SEAT UNDER WARRANTY, STATING THAT IT IS A RESULT OF "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND LEARNED THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I ATTEMPTED TO LOCATE THE PART MYSELF AND LEARNED THAT NISSAN HAS CHANGED THE PART NUMBER SEVEN TIMES, IN ATTEMPTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE PART AS IT IS IN HIGH DEMAND. THE DRIVER'S SEAT IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN NOT ONLY DUE TO THE BOUNCING AND ROCKING BUT THE POSSIBILITY THAT IT WILL DISCONNECT COMPLETELY. I CAN'T EVEN FATHOM HOW THIS SEAT WOULD HOLD UP DURING AN ACCIDENT. LAST WEEK, WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, A TRACTOR-TRAILER ENTERED MY LANE OF TRAVEL. I SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING IT BUT, DUE TO THE BROKEN SEAT, MY BODY FLEW TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR, NEARLY CAUSING ME TO TOTALLY LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR IN THE PROCESS. MY CAR RAN OFF THE ROAD BUT, LUCKILY, I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. *TR
FAILURE OF DOOR LOCKING MECHANISM WAS FIRST NOTICED WHEN FUEL FILLER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN; REMOTE KEY RECYCLED SEVERAL TIMES AND FUEL-FILLER DOOR OPENED. NEXT TIME, SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN BY PASSENGER. AGAIN, REMOTE KEY RECYCLED SEVERAL TIMES AND DOOR OPENED. YESTERDAY, WHEN TRYING TO UNLOCK THE TRUNK LID THE DOOR-LOCK/UNLOCK MECHANISM FAILED AND TRUNK LID AND RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WERE BOTH IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN. AFTER MANY ATTEMPTS USING BOTH THE REMOTE KEYPAD AND USING THE MANUAL KEY METHOD THE DOORS WERE FINALLY UNLOCKED. TO TEST THE SYSTEM , THE DOORS WERE LOCKED USING THE MANUAL KEY AND BOTH THE TRUNK LID AND THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER DOORS REMAINED UNLOCKED. THE SYSTEM IS UNRELIABLE FOR SECURITY PURPOSES AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING IN CASE THE PASSENGERS NEEDED TO EGRESS THE VEHICLE QUICKLY IN CASE OF BEING STALLED ON RAILROAD TRACKS, FIRE OR IN A WATER SUBMERSION SITUATION.
THE DRIVER SEAT FRAME BROKE UNDER NORMAL USE. NO UNUSUAL STRESS WAS PLACED ON THE SEAT TO CAUSE IT TO BREAK. WITH THIS IN MIND, THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. THE BACK SEAT FRAME BREAKING WHILE BEING DRIVEN COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF THE DRIVER LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE SEAT BACK BREAKS; PARTICULARLY IF BOTH SIDES BREAK AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MURANO SE. AS I WAS GOING 60 MPH IN THE FAST LANE DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE SEAT SNAPPED ,TILTED TO THE LEFT THEN LURCHED BACKWARD BECOMING UNSTABLE. I ALMOST LOSS CONTROL OF THE CAR AND INJURED MY BACK. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE BAR THAT IS IN THE LOWER BOTTOM OF THE SEAT BRACKET BROKE OFF AND THE SCREW THAT ANCHORS THE SEAT TO THE FLOOR BECAME UNSTABLE. I HAD TO FIND A WAY TO SECURE THE SEAT TO RIDE HOME AND LUCKY ME HAD SOME PATIO BRICKS IN THE BACK WHICH ARE NOW HOLDING THIS SEAT UP OTHERWISE IT WILL COLLAPSE. I CALLED NISSAN HEADQUARTERS AND THEY WILL NOT HELP ME AND THEY DO NOT CARE. THE DEALER WANTS $1,800 TO FIX WHICH I COULD PUT DOWN FOR ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE I WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN AGAIN. ALSO , THE DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKE ,THE DIFFERENTIAL AND A LONG LIST OF MANY THINGS WITH THIS CAR. I TAKE CARE OF MY CAR BUT THIS MODEL IS A NIGHTMARE. THEY COULD OFFER SOMETHING OF A DISCOUNT BUT TOO GREEDY. I COULD OF LOSS MY LIFE WITH THIS CAR BUT I AM LUCKY TO BE AN OLDER DRIVER AND EXPERIENCED. THE SEAT HAS NO SUPPORT AND WILL FALL OVER BACKWARD. THERE SHOULD BE A SOLUTION THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE SUPPORT BAR IS THINNER THAN A DIME AND IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THIS COULD OF HAPPENED AT ANY TIME DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF HIGHWAY YOU TRAVEL NO MATTER THE MILEAGE OR THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S SEAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE NOT LIKE THE PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN THE STOWED POSITION. IT FALLS DOWN INTO THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT OBSTRUCTING HIS/HER VISION. IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY, SURPRISING THE DRIVER, CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD. TO KEEP IT OUT OF THE WAY, ONE HAND MUST BE USED TO HOLD IT UP, LEAVING ONLY ONE HAND TO DRIVE. *TR
THE PIVOT, WHICH ATTACHES THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT TO THE CAR, BROKE. NOW THE SEAT WOBBLES SEVERELY AND IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, WOULD NOT BE FIRMLY BRACED TO THE VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVER SEAT IS BROKEN AND MOVES ON IT'S OWN WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. *TR
MY DRIVERS SEAT IN MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS GOING AROUND A TURN AND SOMETHING POPPED AND NOW THE SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH ON THE LEFT REAR OF THE SEAT. NOT VERY SAFE HAVING A SEAT THAT ROCKS WHILE DRIVING AND BROKE WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD WHEN IT BROKE. IT IS VERY SCARY TO HAVE IT BREAK AS YOU DRIVE. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR IS BROKEN. IT WILL NOT STAY UP OR DOWN. I HAVE READ ON LINE THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN NISSAN MURANOS. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. *TR
WITHOUT WARNING, THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR OF MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO DISCONNECTED AND BLOCKED MY VISION WHILE DRIVING. SINCE THEN IT DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE AND IS A CONSTANT DISTURBANCE WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE IT DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT IS NOT COVERED ON MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. I DID SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR. IF YOU COMPLAIN ENOUGH, SOME DEALERS HAVE REPLACED IT FOR NO CHARGE. IN MY CASE I WAS GIVEN A QUOTE OF $320 TO REPLACE IT. *TR
2005 NISSAN MURANO. CONSUMER STATES WELDS HAVE BROKEN FOR A SECOND TIME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT. *TGW
BOTH SUN VISORS ON MY NISSAN MURANO STARTED FLOPPING VERTICALLY DOWN. THEY DO NOT STAY UP, NOR TILTED DOWNWARDS AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD. AS A RESULT MY VIEW GETS DISTURBED WHILE STARTLING ME. HAVE CHECKED WITH THE DEALER WHEN GETTING ANOTHER REPAIR. THEY SAY THAT IT COSTS $300-$500 EACH TO REPLACE THEM. NO USED SUN VISORS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE AFTER MARKET AS ALL SUN VISORS TEND TO GO BAD. THIS IS A 100% COMMON SAFETY ISSUE WITH ALL MURANO'S AND VERY EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT WHERE THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I AM 51 YEARS OLD AND NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY CARS I HAVE EVER HAD. *TR

THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND LIFT GATE LOCKS ARE FAILING TO LOCK OR UNLOCK FROM KEY FOB OR FROM LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH ON DRIVER'S DOOR. *TR
BROKEN WELDS IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT BASE FRAME. FIRST BROKE ABOUND 4/9/2008. AFTERMARKET SEAT HEATERS HAD BEEN INSTALLED BY A VENDOR PREVIOUSLY. TOOK VEHICLE TO VENDOR, FOUND BROKEN WELDS IN THE DRIVER SEAT BASE, CAUSING THE BASE TO DROP DOWN AND TO THE LEFT. VENDOR REMOVED THE DRIVER SEAT, ALIGNED, REINFORCED , MIG WELDED THE AFFECTED AREAS. VENDOR REASSEMBLED AND TESTED SEAT, APPEARED TO BE SOLID. 9/15/2010. DRIVING VEHICLE AT MODERATE SPEED (35-40 MPH) , LOUD "POP" , THEN LEFT REAR SIDE OF DRIVERS SEAT DROPPED DOWN. NO LOSS OF CONTROL , BUT NOW AN OBVIOUSLY UNSAFE SITUATION. 9/22/10. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO VENDOR (SEE ABOVE), VENDOR PULLED OFF ACCESS PANELS AND VERIFIED THAT WELDS PERFORMED IN 2008 WERE SOLID AND THAT THE FRAME HAD BROKEN IN ANOTHER SPOT. DECLINED TO EVEN ATTEMPT A REPAIR AT THIS POINT FOR SAFETY CONCERNS AND ADVISED CONTACTING DEALER FOR NEW PART. 9/22//10 VISITED NISSAN DEALER, SEAT INSPECTED BY TECHNICIAN, STATED THAT THE REAR LOWER DRIVERS SEAT FRAME WAS BROKEN AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE DEPT QUOTED A PRICE OF $750.00 PARTS, $275.00 LABOR, FOR A TOTAL OF $125.00 PLUS TAX. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM IN MY MIND. THE CAR HAS 44,000 MILES, WAS PURCHASED IN, AND SPENDS MUCH OF IT'S TIME IN FLORIDA. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO RUST OR CORROSION ANYWHERE I KNOW OF. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY NISSAN. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FAILS DIRECTLY INTO MY LINE OF VISION AND WILL NOT STAY UP. YOU CAN PUSH IT BACK UP BUT THEN AT ANY GIVEN TIME IT WILL FALL AGAIN. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS! *TR
MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT IN MY NISSAN MURANO FRAME CRACKED. WHILE I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGNED AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GO HEAD FIRST IN THE WINDSHIELD. I F MY KIDS WAS IN THE CAR THEN NO TELLING IF I LOST CONTROL OR HIT MY HEAD NO TELLING WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. I HAVE A NISSAN MURANO 2005 I NOTICED 9-13-2010 MY BACK PASSENGER DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE INSIDE SWITCH OR WITH THE REMOTE I WENT TO THE NISSAN STORE THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $115.00 JUST TO CHECK IT OUT I REFUSED I WENT TO ADVANCE AUTO PARTS STORE AND AUTO ZONE THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY JUST THOSE TWO DOORS ARE ACTING THIS WAY I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO JUST GIVE SOMEONE TO CHECK THE PROBLEM I NEED TO KNOW THE PROBLEM. LOCK ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR FAILED AND DOES NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK PROPERLY. MAKES THIS UNSAFE AT NIGHT AS I WORK A NIGHT JOB AND IF THE CAR DID NOT LOCK PROPERLY COULD BE SAFETY ISSUE, ALSO GETTING INTO THE CAR AS THE MURANO IS DESIGNED TO BE KEYLESS, IN A HURRY TO TAKE THE KEY OFF THE KEY FOB IS TIME CONSUMING AND IN A PANIC USAGE. LOCKS JUST STOPPED WORKING AFTER HAD BEEN WORKING FINE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NISSAN SHOULD REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE, AS MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SAME ISSUE, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SO MANY OF SAME COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CAR MAKERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AS HE SET IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT THE BACK LEFT SIDE OF THE SEAT COLLAPSED. HE HAD NOTICE BEFORE THE SEAT COLLAPSED THAT THE SEAT WAS WOBBLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE FRAME OF THE SEAT WAS BROKEN. THE CONTACT STATED THE DEALER HAS ORDERED THE PART AND HE WAS WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM ALSO. REF COMPLAINT #[XXX]OF 9/8/10. DRIVER SEAT COLLAPSE/NISSAN MURANO; TUES 9/7/10. THIS IS A FOLLOW-UP BECAUSE I AM UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS ISSUE WAS REPORTED BEFORE AND SIMPLY "DROPPED" BY YOUR DEPARTMENT. THIS IS A "SAFETY ISSUE" WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS HAD THE SEAT COLLAPSED WHEN OUR DAUGHTER (SHORT AND TINY) WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE A FEW DAYS EARLIER ON A TRIP FROM SPRINGFIELD TO RICHMOND VA. THANK GOD SHE DID NOT ENCOUNTER THE PROBLEM THEN. THE SUPPORT FOR THE SEAT BROKE! WE HAVE THE PART. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AND NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. PEOPLE ARE "WELDING" THE PART BACK: WHAT HAPPENS IF THAT SHOULD BREAK AND AN ACCIDENT OCCURS? ONE SHOULD NOT BE ENCOURAGED TO TAKE THIS ROUTE!! TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 10 MILES. LIGHT DOES NOT RETURN AFTER RESTARTING VEHICLE UNTIL DRIVEN ANOTHER 10 MILES. TIRE PRESSURE CHECKED AND RECHECKED, BUT NO PROBLEM WITH PRESSURE, AROUND 35 PSI. *LN
GOT IN VEHICLE AND DRIVER RIGHT SEAT CAME UNATTACHED FROM THE FLOOR AND IS STILL LIKE THAT. WOBBLES BACK AND FORTH AND NOT ATTACHED ANY MORE CREATING A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. BOUGHT THE CAR LESS THAN A MONTH AGO AND DEALERSHIP NOT RETURNING CALLS AND ARE ACTING LIKE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AS IF I AM THE FIRST PERSON TO REPORT THIS. NISSAN MURANO DRIVERS SEAT DEFECTIVE - WHILE DRIVING MY MURANO LAST YEAR, THE SEAT WELD IN FRONT BROKE CAUSING THE SEAT TO LEAN EXCESSIVELY AND ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT AS I WAS DRIVING. THE NISSAN DEALER SAID IT WAS A COMMON NISSAN DEFECT BUT SINCE THERE WAS NOT A RECALL I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I PAID MY MECHANIC TO WELD THE FRONT BREAK AND TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT BRACES. ON TUESDAY OF THIS WEEK, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT AT 5PM, A DIFFERENT SEAT WELD IN THE BACK BROKE CAUSING THE SEAT TO LEAN TO THE RIGHT WHILE CORNERING LEFT. BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME AND SUDDEN MOVEMENT I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR, ROLLED ACROSS LANES AND UP ONTO A CURB, ALMOST TAKING OUT 4 PEOPLE SITTING AT AN OUTSIDE TABLE AT THE LOCAL GLORY DAYS RESTAURANT. I COULD NOT REACH THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAUSE OF THE ANGLE. LUCKILY, I DID NOT HURT ANYBODY OR DAMAGE ANYTHING OTHER THAN POSSIBLY THROWING A WHEEL WEIGHT OFF OF THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE. FROM VISITING MANY MURANO OWNER FORUMS, I SEE THAT LITERALLY HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF OWNERS HAVE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH THESE WELDS BREAKING AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE SAME THING BY THEIR LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIPS "IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY AND UNLESS A RECALL IS PUT OUT, YOU'RE PAYING CLOSE TO $1000 FOR THE FIX". A MANUFACTURERS OR DESIGN DEFECT THAT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO RUN OVER 4 PEOPLE YESTERDAY SHOULD INDEED BE A CONCERN OF NISSAN AND IT SEEMS THAT IT IS NOT. I OWN A 2005 NISSAN MURANO WITH A GOLD PREFERRED EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS 46,000 MILES ON IT AND THE VISOR WON'T STAY UP. ACCORDING TO MY DEALER THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM BUT IT'S CONSIDERED A "TRIM" (?) ITEM AND THEREFORE NOT COVERED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND SHOULD BE COVERED OR SUBJECT TO A RECALL. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MURANO WITH APPROXIMATELY 73,000 MILES ON IT. APPROXIMATELY 6000 MILES AGO, I HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE WHICH COST $3600 TO REPLACE. NISSAN DID NOT COVER IT WHILE THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR MANAGER DID SAY IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NOT MY FAULT. IN FACT, MY CAR REPAIR PERSON HAS SAID IT IS 1/5TH THE SIZE OF A TRANSFER CASE OF A JEEP CHEROKEE, A CAR THE SAME SIZE OF MY MURANO. THEREFORE, IT IS A DESIGN DEFECT. THE CVT NOW IS NEEDING REPAIR. AND, POSSIBLY THE TRANSFER CASE WILL BE NEEDING REPLACEMENT AS WELL. NOT A WELL BUILT CAR, IN MY OPINION. *TR
THREE OF THE DOOR ACTUATORS THAT CONTROL THE AUTOMATIC LOCKS ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO ARE NOT WORKING. ONE OF THEM HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR A YEAR, THE OTHER TWO JUST WENT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND JUDGING FROM HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE SAME CAR, NISSAN SHOULD PROVIDE REPLACEMENTS FOR THESE. ON 08/10/2010 WE PAID OUR LOCAL NISSAN DEALER $470.93 TO REPAIR THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK. BEFORE THE REPAIR THE DRIVER'S DOOR WE COULD NOT OPEN WITH THE KEY FOB OR WITH THE INTERIOR MANUAL LOCK. WE HAD TO USE THE DOOR KEY. NOW ALL THE OTHER DOORS ARE ACTING THE SAME WAY. THEY DO NOT UNLOCK OR LOCK WITH THE KEY FOB OR INTERIOR MANUAL LOCK. NOTE: THERE IS ONLY ONE KEY HOLE ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. NUMEROUS TIMES WE HAVE HAD CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT THAT WE CAN'T GET OUT OF THE CAR WITHOUT HAVING TO CLIMB OVER AND MANUALLY SWITCHING THE DOOR FROM LOCKED TO UNLOCKED. AFTER REMOVING SEAT DISCOVERED THE LINKAGE MECHANISM BETWEEN BASE RAILS AND SEAT BRACKET HAD FAILED - STAMPED METAL PART HAD CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED IN TWO LOCATIONS. IT COULD BE A COMBINATION OF THE TWO PROBLEMS, SENDING WEAK CURRENT OVER TIME HAS CAUSED THE DOOR ACTUATORS TO BECOME WEAK, AND AS A RESULT MAGNIFIED THE CURRENT PROBLEM. REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAS CAUSED THE PROBLEM, THE FACT IS, THERE ARE MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVING THE ISSUE, AND IT IS NOT AS A RESULT OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN FLAW AND THEREFORE SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY NISSAN. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST BASIC FUNCTIONS OF THE CAR AND IT DOES NOT PERFORM RELIABLY. I JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2005 MURANO. THE CAR NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 70,750 MILES ON IT. AS I WAS GETTING INTO THE CAR TO GO GET GROCERIES, I FELT THE SEAT IMMEDIATELY ROCK TO THE REAR LEFT. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG AND BECAUSE OF THE PLASTIC NEAR THE BASE OF THE SEAT I WASN'T ABLE TO IDENTIFY, BUT NOTICED THAT I COULD LIFT THE SEAT UP BACK AND FORTH. I DIDN'T PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH I BELIEVE WOULDN'T HAVE MATTERED ANYWAY FROM EVERYONE'S PREVIOUS POSTINGS, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD 1000$ FOR A REPAIR THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE HAVING IN THE SAME EXACT PLACE. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND ONE THAT IS FIXED BY NISSAN. THIS ISN'T A RADIO GOING OUT OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT. THE REAR LEFT BRACKET ON THE DRIVER SEAT OF MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT A CONSTANT SPEED IN A STRAIGHT LINE. THE VEHICLE HAS 44K MILES ON IT AND HAS HAD NO SYMPTOMS OF AN IMPENDING SEAT FAILURE. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE SEAT TO SWIFTLY ROCK BACK AND TO THE LEFT, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE MOMENTARILY. LUCKILY I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING, AND I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I HAD MY 6 MONTH OLD BABY IN THE CAR, AND THIS SITUATION PUT HER AT UNACCEPTABLE RISK OF INJURY. DISCUSSIONS WITH NISSAN CORPORATE (1-800-NISSAN1) AND THE DEALER HAVE BEEN FRUITLESS. BOTH WERE AWARE THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM, WITH A TSB ISSUED YEARS AGO (NISSAN TSB NTB05-043D). THEY WERE UNSYMPATHETIC TO THE DANGER THEIR DESIGN FLAW POSED TO MY FAMILY. NISSAN OFFERED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AT A COST TO ME OF $670. A SAFETY ISSUE LIKE THIS, EVEN EXPLICITLY MENTIONED IN THE NHTSA LIST OF EXAMPLES OF SAFETY-RELATED DEFECTS (SEATS AND/OR SEAT BACKS THAT FAIL UNEXPECTEDLY DURING NORMAL USE), IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.
